DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review

Fire and Steel is a game developed and published by Kreatin Studios

The game offers some nice graphics, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same

Fire and Steel overall, however, is an okay game to play, and it does get boring if being played for a long time, but is a good action shooter game and to play in short bursts

RECOMMENDED :)

Handles like your drunk dad behind the wheel after a bad divorce. Does it matter? No. It's dragons eating Nazis. Light a fat one, shut up, and enjoy your guilty power fantasy. Visually absolutely lovely, complete slammer for the price tag. Would pay good money for a sequel with a bit of spit and polish to the main premise.

peacefulpyro22187
peacefulpyro22187

I haven't put many hours into this as i'm still trying to figure out how to 'eat things' since besides humans there's nothing around to eat. But so far, especially getting it on discount, i am happy with this game. It's not right up my alley but good dragon games are few and far between, and the flying is super fun.

While putting the player right into the action is jarring, it's also good in a way that you can immediately see progress with each death. Though i do think a short tutorial hidden to the side wouldn't hurt.

I really appreciate the wear on the dragon overtime and as i mentioned the flying is super fun. The premise is also quite interesting, though i'm probably the only crazy person here for the story lol

For $8.50 you really can't complain. Even just flying around the map is super fun. The flying has weight and all else to make the flying feel realistic and not just a levitating model. I hope to see more chapters added to this game, as really who doesn't want to see a story about ww2 that involves dragons

This game is surprisingly good for the price. The combat is fun and is fairly straight-forward to just pick up and play, and graphically is pretty good all things considering. It has its flaws of course, the biggest imo being the controls are a little wonky and take some getting used to. The game is also pretty short - i finished all of the campaign levels in about 1.5 hours, though that's something I personally don't hold against it. If you're a fan of dragons, I'd say it's worth giving this game a try, especially if you can grab it on sale.

Wyvern-of-the-Rising-Sun
Wyvern-of-the-…

Slept.
Thousands of years of sleep.
But now the eyes are opening.
In a time, probably the darkest hour of mankind.
World War 2.
Outside the hidden cave, explosions awaken an ancient power.
A power that no Axxis or Allies knows.
A power that destroys everything.
Aidan, the dragon.

Welcome to FIRE & STEEL!

To be honest, this Game was a suprise for me.
It came out of nowwhere into my sight and i was excited.
A Dragon fighting against modern Weapons in World War 2.
Sounds like an amazing Plot and it is.

FIRE & STEEL is an, let´s say, oldschool Arcade Shooter.
Aidan has 2 Weapons. His Fire Breath and limited Fireballs.
The Fire Breath is a typical Flamer Weapon following the Cursor while Aidan is breathing.
The Fireballs are powerfull but straight flying, lets say Missile like Ones who make really big Damage.
Aidan is also able to consume EVERY living creature to get Live back. Yes, also Soldiers.
Controlling Aidan is very easy. Fluid and uncomplicated. Just fly and breath.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2926936745

So, Aidan does not care about Axxis or Allies. His enemys are Humans.
Both Fractions will learn how it is to get the anger of a Dragon.
The Game is divided into Chapters, where we accompany Aidan on his Vendetta.
That will also lead into his past.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2926026192

The Game starts with Aidans awakening and the First Part is the Tutorial, where you learn the Basics of the Game.
Master them, because the Difficulty is raising. Slowly but surely.
In the Beginning you are fighting smaller Targets like Soldiers, Fighting Planes and Boats.
Later the Weapons became bigger and deadlier.
The Levels are very cool designed. A Battle, Dragon against Battleship or the Fight against an armored Train.
Amazingly done.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2926026001

Also very well done, the Movie Reporting in classical look and with News Anchor between the Levels, that are driving on the Story.

The Graphics are really cool. The classical and dark Look lets you feel you are in the Times of World War 2.
Especially the night Levels feel so atmospheric.

So, if you ever want to be a Dragon against Modern Weapons, then here is your Chance.
Fly like a Dragon, breath like a Dragon, BE a Dragon.

Thanks for reading.

The flying in this is so well thought out. there is a few dragon games from the past that could do with this flying! I pray one day for a Drakengard remake and if that ever happens I hope they reach out to you guys for the flying. two things I do have a gripe with though but doesn't affect the experience in any major way but could do with improvement! when I'm flying next to the water facing to the sky and if the camera goes underwater in turn the dragons attacks direct towards the water instead with the dragon facing towards the sky still! and in regards to flying it would be nice to have a quick dodge going left right forward back just to dodge artillery fire last second! anyway I would give this game a 9/10! tiny movies are really well done as well!

Gemis-037
Gemis-037

I've only played a few levels, but this game is addicting, fun, and SUPER satisfying.
I Won't lie, this game has MASSIVE potential. and I would LOVE to see a sequel.

If a sequel DOES get made, I would like to make the following requests to make the gameplay even more fun:

1: Give us the ability modify our control setup. (There's nothing wrong with the current setup, but there will always be people who like their controls to be slightly different)

2: Allow for more manoeuvrability; i.e: Dash left & right, Boost, Dive-bomb, And bind them all to the "SHIFT" Key

3: Add a self-recharging stamina bar for special moves (See Request No:2)

4: Allow us to refill our secondary attack, since there is no way to refill our fireballs. Either make it a gradual recharge, or make it so we have to eat to refill it.

5: Add an Upgrade system: Allow us to earn upgrade points based on how well we perform per level. These points can be spent on buffs to Health, Attack, Stamina, Speed, etc.

6: Add more firing modes that we can unlock for doing certain things. Doing this will allow us to create personalised attack setups before heading into a new level. And make it so that attack modes are not locked to Primary/secondary, Allow us to mix & match which 2 firing modes we want to go together.

7: Fix collision damage. Right now, I find it odd how just brushing against solid matter and water can damage us. Please make it so that colliding into something will only damage us depending on how fast we're going.

8: Allow us to Perch. And Anywhere. There's something just so cool about a dragon landing on the ground before roasting it's victims.

9: Add customisation: It would be cool if we could change the primary/secondary/tertiary colours of our dragon. And allow us to select between different heads, Necks, Arms, legs, Tails, Bodies, Wings, Horns, and Spikes.

10: IF it's possible, Add Multiplayer. Both team-based & Free-For-All.

11: Add a mini-map in 1 corner so we can tell where we are on the map. If not, Add a compass at the top of the screen.

So far, I give this game a Solid 10/10. But imagine how fun a sequel would be if all 11 requests above were added.

Eternal Echo
Eternal Echo

I completed Fire and Steel's campaign in 111 minutes, according to Steam. There are Survival modes and more achievements to get for finishing levels without taking damage but I think I've had enough.

I don't know if the game's bad. I think $0.59 is a great price for it but, then again, very few games wouldn't be an absolute steal at that price. For what it's worth, it's fun to rain a powerful stream of fire against Nazis and their planes. The movement controls aren't particularly engaging but I think there's promise in the aiming controls allowing you to track the fast-moving planes with your fire breath and immolate them.

The game's at its worst when it has massive planes and blimps because those things just rip your health to shreds and make you restart the level very goddamn quickly. They also have massive amounts of health. I suspect they have weakpoints of some description but there's no solid feedback system to tell me if I'm doing damage or not; only vague red areas highlighted in Dragon Sense. Every enemy is highlighted in red and, when they die, they stop being highlighted. Massive aircraft have more than one of these and it's hard to tell what I'm actually doing. This assumes there's more to be done other than breathing fire on them constantly, mind you; it is possible they're just massive damage sponges.

If that wasn't the worst of it, it has a bad ending. There's an extra level after the campaign, highlighted on the store page... in a boring featureless sky surrounded by a bunch of fodder planes (which is fun) and three massive planes, which are not fun in the slightest. I have no idea why the extra level was even made. It sucks. I hate it. It is worse than every other level in the game. If it weren't for this level, the massive aircraft enemies wouldn't be as big of an issue.

At best, it's a decent little dragon arcade romp. At worst, it's mercifully brief. Take that as you will. I give this game a recommendation simply because indie games need all the help they can get and I want algorithms to know I want more dragon games in my life.

sumosimon
sumosimon

The idea alone is ingenious and deserves a recommendation.
I was impressed at the beginning. In the higher levels there are other enemies and ships. Nevertheless, it gets kind of repetitive over time. And it's relatively easy.

Berserkervalk209
Berserkervalk209

This game is fun but it suffers from lack of burst of speed for the dragon, weak dodge mechanic. the difficulty scales much harder toward the end of each act , but without a good dodge mechanic, its very hard to evade mortar rounds and other fire in general. an Aileron roll that airplanes have applied to the dragon or better dodge mechanic would help this game immensely. also it would be cool if you could land and kill enemies too like in lair or other dragon titles. i hope they expand it to have story too.

The Ironguard
The Ironguard

Good ideas, bad execution. Dragon handles like a drunk pelican, your secondary ammunition is so limited it's basically useless, and has no means of recharge. While the game can be fun for a bit as you watch things explode, in later levels you face so many high-damage guns, and have to keep a lobotomized AI alive on top, that what little fun there is to be had just gets eradicated in a hail of FLAK rounds.

Do not buy, no matter the price.

Shaaria
Shaaria

WW2 flight sim, but you're a fire-breathing dragon. What more do you want?

Wait for a sale since it's not all that long, but it's definitely worth playing. It starts easy and gets pretty challenging later as some enemies do extremely high damage (the Messerschmitts in particular) but you can generally do pretty well if you're careful about your attacks and picking off enemies to thin them out before going after big targets.

Nanika
Nanika

This, while a bit flawed, is what I want to see more of from games with draconic PCs.
The controls, while a bit less than intuitive are responsive and well tuned.
The plot... exists, and the ending is frankly disappointing.
Combat is fairly varied, and the game is short enough that it doesn't get stale thanks to the somewhat varied environment and enemy types, although more variety couldn't hurt.
Collision damage being a thing is questionable, and while somewhat realistic, the geometry isn't nearly destructible enough to go for full realism. I've gotten hung up on wires on the battleships, taking constant collision damage and unable to move from the oncoming hail of gunfire.
As it stands, I'll give it an 8/10, taking points off for "no-damage" achievements (because they're always annoying), collision jank, and pretty lackluster graphical fidelity, even at max settings.

Here's hoping for sequel in a better engine, maybe even some character customization or even mod support for this game.

2LIM3RZ
2LIM3RZ

Absolutely SUPER FUN and can very much recommend it to play. My computer's a bit clunky so I had to mess with the graphics but asides from that, 10/10.
Also where else am I supposed to be a wyvern in WW2? Absolutely brilliant.

Bombr
Bombr

It was good game for the price, but i have to give it bad rew, since i am unable to finish the game.
When i got to the mission "High castle in flames", the game turned into unplayable lag fest. The moment even few projectiles were shot at me, game lags to unplayable levels and i get hit, making it impossible to finish the mission.

DerVammt
DerVammt

I love dragons, not as much as cheese but almost.

If you would not play as a dragon I would maybe not recommand it but there are so few good games that let you do so.

It's rather short but on highest difficulty you get a tough challenge. The gameplay also feels good.

So if you like dragons give it a go.

Ketor Myth
Ketor Myth

Can be beaten on the hardest difficulty in around ninety minutes.
Not much of a story.
Gameplay is basic.
The optimization is weird. High graphics will just kill the game, medium has some problems with stuttering at times. Low works just fine and doesn't look very different from high graphics.
Controls are mediocre.
Enough replay-ablity to be played twice.
Singleplayer only.
Has a survival mode which is decent.
Has different difficulties all of which are pretty easy.

Game isn't very good but for the price of a few dollars you should check it out. New stuff is still being added at a slow rate but it is still new stuff.

$0.59 ..... Really?

I was not expecting much. Just wanted to check out the dragon's flight characteristics.

I was not expecting the game to be this enjoyable.

Hats off to the makers. A gem for sure.

You know what's fun? Interrupting WWII as a dragon.

It's short and challenging, yet an enjoyable game. You just basically attack human WWII forces with your fire or teeth, literally fire and steel.

Fire and Steel is a brilliant shoot-em-up made by a very talented yet immensely humble team. We have had the chance to interview them about the development process in a documentary series that revolves around the gaming industry in Turkey.

As the camera guy of the docu series, I have realized that they aimed to come up with a game that they would love playing in the past. That's why Fire and Steel almost feels like a tribute to those old shooter titles.

I consider myself lucky for having the chance to hear their stories of making this game. Flying high and scorching the armies of the WWII without making any discriminations is a lot fun. Definitely recommend!!!

Seriously, I pay little expectation to most of the dragon simulator but this game RULES. Apart from well-designed combat system and little bugs (which is impossible to most dragon games), it even has nice little details on your dragon when the health drops low. As a hardcore dragon-fan, I'd pay five times than its current price. Well done, Kreatin Studios. You might just lighted up the hope for us dragon-gamers.

GameScoper
GameScoper

I was on edge in the beginning of this game, the tutorial gave me a first-hand impression that it was a clunky game. However, quickly after getting into the first battle and learning to fly, my initial impressions changed! Why?

It has a really nice feel to it, and after learning to fly more and more throughout the game, it felt better and better! In the first few minutes, the game can feel a bit slow and boring, but after completing those stages, things take a turn and you meet more action and it's pretty much a constant battle afterwards.

QUICK TIP! If you buy the game, note that you can press TAB to use "Dragon Sense" which can help you make decisions in combat; that should help anyone if they are struggling in this game!

The game has no graphic settings so be aware of that, also since the system requirements of the game are set pretty high :)

I'm gonna come back to this one later, I left the game with a good feeling;
For anyone interested, here is some gameplay in Full HD:
https://youtu.be/Gu183szwOHk

._.
._.

Pros:
-It is a different concept than other games
-Story animations and voice overs are satisfactory
-Wave system is good, it gets harder over time but still passable
-Graphics are okay
-Movement is easy to master
-Healing mechanic is very creative
-Secondary attack is limited which makes planing before attacking important

Cons:
-There is no graphics setting
-System requirements are very high for such a simple game
-First 2 cons influence the fps (I got an average of 40-45 fps from start to end of the game)
-First attack is easily spammable which makes the game kinda easy (I would recommend a cooldown mechanic)
-In the co-op missions with the other dragon is easy because the other dragon can destroy the whole wave with little to no help
-Game is really short, I finished it in 60 minutes (-+15 mins for the cinematics)
-I haven't tried it but completing the game with %100 achievements looks really hard (This maybe a good thing for more hardcore gamers, but it isn't for me)

Summary:
Fire & Steel is a nonconventional game which involves dragons and WW2. Theme and the story line is great but it is hard to enjoy it with low fps. I would recommend you to play this game and play it again if it gets patched. And if you have a high spec pc go enjoy the game.

PS: You can check my profile to see my PC specs to see if your PC gets higher or lower than my average fps.

Wow! It was quite a journey! It is super easy to learn compared to other flight simulators and rest is full of action and beautiful scenes from WW2. Just what I want for the weekend! I hope new chapters are coming soon!

It's a fun game. It took me less than 3 hours to complete the game, but it seems fair considering the cheap price. I think this game deserves to be known by more people.

+ Graphics and sounds are really satisfying
+ It's fun to dodge bullets and set armies on fire
+ The first level (tutorial) might leave the impression of a game with bad controls. But after some time, it gets easier to get used to the control system.
+ I liked the quality of the cutscenes

- There aren't any graphics options (yet). I had some serious FPS drops in some heated moments, I wanted to decrease the graphics quality, but it wasn't possible (I have an GTX 1070, played the game on 1920x1080).
- Game could be much more fun with gamepad.
- Story and the ending aren't the strongest parts of the game.

krayzkrok
krayzkrok

This is a masterpiece of gaming power fantasy. I mean sure, it's not the first game to cast you in the role of a dragon, but it is by far the most satisfying. It is stupidly fun, in large part because the devs mastered the feel of the dragon here; it's agile, diving and weaving with ease, turning on a dime where necessary while burning everything with a literal firehose of death. The early levels are pure gaming nirvana, wreaking destruction as you dominate the skies. Frying targets on the ground, seeing them burned to a crisp, vehicles exploding in graceful arcs while hearing the screams of men is extremely satisfying, but for me the dogfights with WW2 aircraft are peak dragon combat, planes exploding in a shower of metal, screeching and wailing as their tortured engines fall out of the sky. It's also a nice-looking game, well lit and sufficiently detailed to be convincing, and the dragon is nicely modelled and animated.

You run through a series of missions, 12 in total including the tutorial (which to be honest is the weakest part of the game, forcing you to fly through the tight spaces of a cave until the glorious moment that you emerge into freedom) and while they start off easy they get progressively harder. By the middle of Act II you'll need to think more strategically about how you approach each scenario or you'll crash and burn, and Act III really takes the gloves off on Normal. There's an Easy mode if you just want to burn fools, but Normal seems like the intended experience. It's not a particularly long game, 2-3 hours seems about right for most players.

It's not perfect, the main downside being the extremely limited graphics and gameplay options, but the price is right and if you go into it expecting a slice of awesome dragon action you won't be disappointed. It would be a shame if more people didn't discover this little gem.

cfowler7
cfowler7

The game can be clunky as hell and you can tell is was on a budget. However a lot of thought was put into this neat little game. And when I say little is is very small to the point I would be tempted to say it is overpriced, it took me under two hours to complete (I had pause breaks) so its a real shame it isn't longer. It was building up to a big climax but... well no spoilers. I think this game has a potential to be better.

I am 50/50 with this game. I can't say I recommend it, but it is also a charming game so I really want to. It has this old time feel to it that brings me back to the older games with a dash of a modern look. Music is pretty decent but the controls can be jarring. Since it has an honest price I will recommend this if you fancy spending and hour or 2 roasting humans and melting their machines to a puddle!

Good old fashion arcade feeling fun. Thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game and look forward to more content from the developer.

Negatives being there are no graphics options to adjust and no support for ultrawide monitors.

A amazing game! Its challenging even on Normal difficulty and i love how you can just burn everything in you path! the controlls are really well especially on controller! I hope there are more acts and chapters to come for this game. Saddly it feels really short. Thisgame needs more chapters/acts were you see a deep lore on were the dragons came from and so on. And the more you progress in the story the stronger and bigger you get, evolving and then grow into a all powerful and invinvcible elder dragon that uses all abilities to its fullest!!! And its all in ther name of annihalating the humans and (WATCH OUT SPOILER DO NOT READ THIS PART IF YOU WANNA PLAY THE GAME) avenging your fallen Dragon brother. (SPOILER PART END).

Also a neat idea would be that you can land and walk on the ground eating the soldiers without getting hurt by hitting the ground. And as a funny idea...it would be hilarious if you get like a cutscene were hitler taunts the Dragon only to almost loose a limb.

So all in all...amazing game and really good controlls and i recommend this game to all fans of demolishon games...but its saddly short and needs much more acts/chapters and content. Also i would DEFINETLY love it if you at one point evolve into a elder dragon and are completely unstoppable!

I am eager for the future updates of this game

Fly as a dragon and blast WW2 militaries with fire, whats not to like? You get to burn ground troops, fighter planes, patrol boats, and even battleships. Seriously, what else could you ask for? Game runs smoothly and its a fantastic concept. My only real complaint is the game is short, I want more levels with more dragon dealt massacres.

Finally - a solid, fun, arcade action Dragon game. Beyond the need for an english thespian for news reels, this initial chapter is WELL worth the price. This sits in good stead amongst other creature oriented fare such as the original AVP, in that it *feels* right. You might even fondly recall Magic Carpet 2, in general. A lot of potential, screaming for further development. Good job Kreatin Studios.

Dragons. Nazis. Budget price? Yes please!

From dogfighting above the clouds to sweeping through ruined castles at night, in the rain, trailing a firestorm in your wake, this game has some really great moments.

If the idea interests you, I'd say absolutely you should pick this up.
Its charismatic. It captures the power fantasy, but still has the ability to be challenging at times. And while short enough to burn through in under the length of a movie, its def the sort of game you'll find yourself wanting to replay your fav levels and considering trying the whole thing again a few times for achievements etc.

I finished the game in just over an hour, but it was an enjoyable hour.

There's not much to this game and it's pretty short (90 minutes for full campaign in Normal), but I thought it was pretty fun. The flight controls are good once you get used to them (as others have noted, the tutorial's pretty clunky), and I actually enjoyed just flying around during the few quiet moments. I hope future updates/games allow for more roaming. The fire effects are nice and the enemy vehicles fall apart satisfactorily. There's not too much plot but I think what was there was pretty effective, aside from an abrupt end. I look forward to it's continuation.

It would be nice to have an in-game stats screen (level results and what I've eaten), and a dedicated roar button just for fun. Also there's no melee aside from ramming, which looks pretty awkward if you try to eat something on the ground. Those were the only things I was missing while playing.

Played on Linux using Proton-GE (Needed as will not work with normal Proton), Really good Game but a bit short as it took me just over an hour to beat the Game, but does have high replay value, Good Graphics, Good Sound, Good Game Play once you master the controls which is'nt that bad (wasd and mouse is what i used), Loved the idea of this Game, A Dragon taking on the whole WWII country's, Good Game and nice Arcade like Game Play, Recommended.

So I randomly stumbled across this game out of pure luck. The premise seemed extremely fun, playing as a dragon and burning entire armies. While it seemed cool, I fully expected this to be a poor effort asset-flip.

What I actually got was probably the best example of playing as a dragon I could ever find.
As others have said, the controls are great once you get used to them. The dragon is very agile and easy to control. Plus, the great animation work makes it actually feel natural. Especially during dogfights against aircraft and when performing strafing runs on infantry, it'd be so easy for that to look and feel clunky. Very much not so here. The combat is extremely satisfying as a result. The dev has actually managed to make it feel smooth and cinematic. The only other game I can think of that manages that with playable dragons is Century: Age of Ashes. But even then, that game is purely pvp and doesn't have any air-to-ground combat. Plus that game has a much higher budget behind it.

There's also a good bit of detail, much more than expected for such a low priced game. For example, when you destroy planes (which is incredibly satisfying, whether you're ramming them or burning them), rather than simply explode, they blow apart and spiral down towards the ground, exploding against whatever they hit. And AI units from both the axis and allied sides will both fight each other, which looks really cool.

It may be very short, but considering it's only £2.99, you absolutely get your money's worth. I mean I'd honestly pay a bit more.

It's so obvious that a lot of effort and passion went in to this. It's a very fun game, and I really hope we get more. I mean what other games are there where you can fly around burning armies as a dragon?

Just two suggestions for any future updates:
- Some way to replenish fireballs. Like maybe kill a certain number of enemies, or something like that.
- The ability to play as the dark dragon. As cool as the playable dragon is, it is also pretty small. It would be cool to be able to play as the larger one, maybe as an unlockable option once the campaign has been completed.
- A couple of extra modes. Like maybe a wave mode or a level editor. (So you can edit enemy placements to create new levels on current maps. Would absolutely increase replay-ability)

Fun lil game with good effects and soundeffects tho it certainly could use some more campaign levels.

Okay, so, the reviews are incredibly deceptive. I went in thinking this would be good, just with some clunky controls. What i wasn't prepared for was the WORST control set up/layout and lag so bad it basically runs a 5 fps. I have played almost half an hour right now and the cursor always lags behind my mouse by a few seconds, even at the lowest qualities.
i might try playing again later when i'm not so frustrated, but these controls are the worst I've ever experienced in a game where you play as a flying character. if they ever get changed, i'll cheer and possibly think about liking it.

Game lags for no reason, it's fun but that needs to be fixed first.

Solid flight controls, fun combat. Interesting level design.
My only gripe is with some artistic choices, especially with lighting where the player character looks very dark and enemies are very hard to spot, especially ones on the ground

Pros:
- You're a dragon.
- You are a DRAGON in WW2!!!
- While the game isn't hard on normal difficulty, enemies offer fun challenge.
- The story, levels, and art direction are interesting.
- Xbox One controller works fine.
- It's cheap.

Cons:
- The control takes some getting used to. Instead of holding the left analog stick to fly forward and just releasing it to stop like in Zone of the Enders or other flying mech games, the devs opted for something similar to the spaceship control in Star Wars Battlefront II. You push the stick forward to accelerate, then you have to pull it backward to stop and hover. It's a bit too clunky for a game where you constantly switch between hovering and moving forward.
- The game is very short and has no replay value. I don't mind short games but this one could add something to increase the replay value, like unlocking infinite special fireballs to play around with.
- While I didn't find any game-breaking bug or crash, the performance wasn't great. I played it on an i5 11th gen laptop, RTX3060, 16GB RAM, NVMe SSD, at 1080p. The frame rate plunged to 40+ and stuttered quite a lot when the screen was busy. I dropped graphical settings to mid/low but that didn't help much. And the game looks blurry when you move, even with motion blur off.
- It takes up about 11GB on the hard drive, too big for a very short game.

Conclusion:
Fire & Steel reminds me of the movie Reign of Fire, flawed but entertaining as hell. The devs have a solid foundation for more dragon games here. I hope that they could use this game as a proof of concept to get funding to make more Fire & Steel entries with better game engine and more content.

The game literally lasts 1 hour, the longest level is 6 minutes, bad controls/aim and it lags like all hell. good concept, but there needs to be more to it. Also needs to have the option of selecting which secondary to use, and it would be better to customise the dragon at least a little.
Not horrible for a $5 game, but even then, wait for the sale

This is an incredibly fun little game. Its endlessly replayable and great at the price point. It's wonderful to get out pent-up frustration by just annihilating some folks.

Capt Cronchy
Capt Cronchy

A decent fantasy arcade shooter. Controls can be a little harder to grasp with mouse/keyboard but playing with any controller seems to solve that issue. The game is short, you'll probably complete it in around an hour or maybe even a little less.

STORY: 4/10
Not much of a story. The cut scenes are basic at best but still add a bit of flavor to the before/after the missions. Keep in mind that this is episodic content, meaning that the story line is short and will be continued in further DLC or installments.

GAME PLAY: 6/10
It's decent, but not spectacular. Fun but not mind-blowing. The music and animations are all pretty solid and I like the maps. Its a good game to unleash frustrations on by burning nearly everything to the ground.

CONTROLS: Keyboard 3/10 -- Controller 7/10
Just plug in a controller. Trust me.

ACHIEVEMENTS: 6/10
Would be higher but I don't know how completing this game on Nightmare difficulty is even possible. Enemies are able to fire at you with dead-eye precision well out of range of your own attacks. Some levels I can't even approach the enemies before getting completely annihilated before I'm even within range of doing anything.

OVERALL: 5/10
As said before, the game is solid enough. Don't expect mind blowing game play and rather expect a unique little arcade shooter with some fun but limited game play. Either way its def worth the $4-$5 for the price of the game.

Cheers!

This game is addicting and fun! It is short but def worth the $5 I paid for it! I would love to see more of it, like a DLC or sequel game! I'm really enjoying it and it reminds me of an updated version of Drakan Order of the Flame and Panzer Dragoon Orta!

fun game, way too short tho. Wish there was a freeroam kind of mode to extend the game's life, it a little less than 2 hours of gameplay, so i couldnt recommend but this dev has serious skill and talent and it shows in this short masterpiece

Whats the deal with the frame rate? Can't recommend it for now.

I liked the idea of this game as soon as I saw it. I mean who doesn't want to be a dragon in WWII? Flying around torching everyone and blowing s__t up with fireballs? What's not to like? Well the controls for one thing, or rather the inability to rebind keys. As a left hander, I hate using WASD. I always rebind to the arrow keys. Annoying though this is, it's not a dealbreaker since the game's on sale for .49 cents. For .49 cents you absolutely cannot go wrong buying this game. Dragons! WWII! Fun times!

Not a bad game.
Short except for achievements.
There are bugs and balancing. There is still work to be done.
Dragons and machines from the Second World War is not bad.
I hope there is a sequel has great potential.
With upgrade missions and more story and destruction.
With or without a discount, the game is not bad.

what a spectacle of a game. the initial awe of flying around as a dragon blowing up nazis passes after a few levels unfortunately. there isnt a lot to the campaign, just about an hour of gameplay if you dont replay for the challenges. it does have and endless wave survival mode to it however. its really cheap for what its worth, and would be worth picking up, especially if you can catch it on sale like i did.

the concept is friggin awesome, and i dont see many games like this where the concept is mostly just a power fantasy, and i love it.

i would like to see a sequel of some sort with some new and updated features. most notably a coop function would work well, considering there already is an AI controlled companion in some missions. the controls take a little getting used to, and the framerate isnt exactly stable, but worth a shot.

FireGamer_14535

I love this game.

After I saw it on Reddit I immediatly wishlisted it. Finally had the heart to buy it while in sale. It is a glorious underrated masterpiece.

To make the game even more fun I would suggest a sandbox mode where you got unlimited health and can just rain down fire on people as much as you like.

Anhur

Short and sweet. Finished the campaign on normal difficulty for 2.8 hours. Considering that I payed only 0.4 Euros for the game that is acceptable. The controls are simple and responsive, although camera control is sometimes finicky, such as when going through narrower spaces like in caves.

For possible future instalments some simple improvements can be implemented: remove damage from landing on terrain (except if landing too fast), allow granular zoom control over camera (so that we can tailor how we view our dragon to our tastes), perhaps add some customisation of looks and performance of our dragon.

There is some stuttering depending on how many enemies there are on the screen, time of day (night missions are worse) and how many special effects are being displayed, as well as when using the "dragon sense", but it was tolerable.

NautileeSys
NautileeSys

decent enjoyable little game, and the asking price is pretty fair.

only downside is some of the levels really, really need checkpoints (Iron Serpent comes to mind as the worst example of a too long level with a little bit of luck to whether you can even get past certain points before your ally gets filled full of holes)

gilzers24
gilzers24

I wanted to love this game so badly but unfortunately a few things let it down. But first, the positives: I love the concept, the level graphics are nice, varied landscapes in the levels with building to hide in and a mixture of land, sea, island and air fights gives some interesting variety. The tipping point for me is based on the control system and the formulaic way of winning. On a controller, simultaneously using both sticks really pushes coordination to a point where the game is largely unenjoyable for many missions until you have mastered the controls. For me, that took till three quarters of the way through the game. I had to step down to easy level to give enough flight time to enable that, at which point the levels were a bit too easy. I want to fight the enemy, not the controls! Then as there is no real AI, most missions can be figured out in a formulaic way where you can sneak up on the enemy and slowly pick them off one by one. Maybe it is just my approach to the game that drove me in that direction due to the discomfort with the controls. I was hoping to be an almighty flying beast, mastering the air but instead I turned into a sneaky creepy sniper which I feel belittles the concept of the game. Based on this, I really cant fully recommend the game.

Despite all that above, the game isnt a disaster. I feel the devs have really put a lot of love into the game. With a bit of better balancing of the enemy weapons along with some AI with more mobile enemy (eg: foot soldiers) to make things more dynamic and another look at the control system then this could be an awesome game.

I don't even know what I expected - I honestly expected that with the price the game would be bad but this is so enjoyable and feels good after a bit of practice flying. Haven't gotten too far (about 6 or so levels?) but loving it so far and plan to play more

For $1 it's OK. You can experience everything in 1 hour.
The core concept is great. It reminds me a lot of Charles Stross's novel where the wild hunt sends dragons to take out the RAF's two Concorde nuclear bombers.
The actual gameplay still feels "tech demo". Here's some points to improve for the sequel:

    • you move at constant speed (no throttle, no climb deceleration, no dive-bomb speed).
    • your rockets don't refill slowly over time, which is an odd choice for a game this arcade-y
    • your main weapon fills the screen with fire, making it hard to adjust aim
    • it's very hard to tell if an enemy is in range, especially planes
    • for ground attack, your aim point is in line with your heading. If this was shifted downwards, strafing runs would be much easier.
    • since you can stop dead in midair and turn on a dime, helicopter pop-and-drop doctrine should be easy, but it just isn't.
    • the enemies aren't very realistic -- the barrage balloons chase you, the observation helicopters are armed, and the battleship cannons can only shoot about 50 metres before their shells fall down. (Since this is an arcadey game, I can forgive this one.)

Its an Okay Game, decent for those needing some stress relief.

for new buyers please be aware that the game itself, will kick you butt: Even on Hard mode.
to the dev of Fire and Steel, could please fix the AI on Hard mod the last level was difficult quite difficult: actual every level with the Germans was a pain to go through, also could we get a save system or checkpoints because restarting the level is a tad annoying.

all in all. not bad or great. 7/10
