I didn't know that i am into these kind of games until For The King.
Definetely will get a next game
The game is worth playing if you have friends to play it. The harder difficulties give the game a darksouls vibe when you semi new to the game and in my opinion make the game really fun.
its a great dungeons and dragons style game for a party of 3
ragdoll physics are also pretty amusing
i could probably spend most of my life playing this game. I start playing and suddenly its been 8 hours. download with caution... cuz its awesome
Fun Turn-Based RPG, I mainly play it with my friends, but when I do play it I have an absolute blast!
Beat the game twice on Playstation. This is a great game for small groups of friends, I'd recommend getting it, streaming it to a TV, and passing a controller between each other. It also works online and has some pretty funny moments. Worth full price.
It's a great casual game to play with friends. The animations and art style are equally dope, entertaining, and cute
its really fun just make sure you got some friends that will play with you it makes it much more fun
A unique and challenging take on turn based combat. It's not easy though, like for real. If you like the challenge that deck builders/rouge likes bring to actually winning, then this game might work for you. It's by no means a deck builder but the steps to finally winning are similar.
Doesn't explain anything, terrible keybinds, terrible coop mechanics, unintuitive UI, terrible loot and sharing mechanics, cant seem to use healing item in combat but you can swap weapons? Combat is simple yet not at all simple in that suddenly monsters start throwing status effects at you that you dont really understand how to deal with aside from going to a town to fix. You have little ability to counter or deal with anything they do. You move independently of your coop partner and need to be immediately near them to fight a monster or something idk it doesnt explain anything.
Played for the first time, did a quest or two, started to really like the game. Did the first dungeon and made it through the first floor, really started to like the game. Then made to the boss to get absolutely fucking destroyed. Like, not even a contest d e s t r o y e d. Why? Roguelike features? No thanks. Immediately closed and uninstalled.
A very nice rougelike RPG that has exceeded my expectations. Recommend it to anybody who likes turn based rpgs with more focus on interesting combat mechanics than story.
The good:
-interesting and deep combat mechanic, especially if you like a tactical turn based approach and do not mind rng
-challenging difficulty
-while I am not a big fan of low poly art, the overall artistic theme is well done, and the music and animations are very good
-I only played single palyer, but it seems to be fun to play in coop as well
The bad:
-do not expect a very deep narrative, the story is just there to justify the game
-it can get repetitive after some time
Simply a sound, somewhat hardcore turn-base strategy game that's the most enjoyable with a party of three. Where actions are intuitive and consequences clear.
So many things to like about this game :).
-online and offline co-op which is rare in games these days.
-lots of different classes to play.
-Has tones of replay value with different game modes and a in game no microtransactions store that actually rewards you with better loot in future runs for playing well.
- Very cheap and reasonable price especially if it’s on sale even without that it’s a bargain for the amount of content you get in the game.
Overall, I love this game originally played it on Xbox game pass and now I've bought it on steam. Genuinely can't recommend this game enough. not everyone will love it but if you've got a love for turn-based/ tabletop/ turn-based JRPGs give this game a go I don't think you'll be disappointed.
P.s its getting a sequel next year which looks like a lot of fun and it looks to evolve the formula of this game so if you enjoy this game check out its sequel ;)
great game, lots of fun, one more turn-tastic and really fun in multiplayer with friends. But and its a big BUT Hildebrandt's cellar game mode is so far unbalanced its funny. The lack of gold or loot or levels vs difficulty is crazy. The fact the we kept getting items you can't use in the dungeon (like treasure maps, the compass, teleport scrolls, vision scrolls) instead of basic armor for all classes is maddening. If you can luck your way to high levels, 8-9-10, you will have level 6 gear. The game is great don't get me wrong the story mode is lots of fun and pretty well balanced. But me and my crew have been playing the cellar run trying to beat our best runs and damn if it doesn't spit in your face before stabbing you in the chest. Oh and screw those Aztec Snakes that can petrify stun and poison. 8.5/10 would continue to play till FTK 2 arrives
It's got a bunch of funny dialogue, you can play online with friends, and there are many different campaign styles! It's also very easy to save and quit, so if you have limited time to play games, this one is ideal for you.
first off, look at my achievements. I beat it. Onto the review:
Slow! Interrupted! Petrified! Pierce Interrupt! Entangled! Unconscious! are just a few of the myriad ways this game goes out of it's way to stop you from playing it. And that's what most of the time the game tried to do. Stop you from playing it.
oh and you can't do the same because about 75% of enemies are immune to stuns and daze.
This game holds promise at first and keeps you coming with it's challenge, but after a while it gets boring. really boring. and TEDIOUS. I cannot say that enough, this game becomes the height of tedium very quickly due to the mentioned endless spamming of status effects, some of which have no real counter.
Most character classes are hot garbage and not worth using and exist as little more than another attempt to steal your time with substandard characters. and you realize it's just a boring unbalanced mess of garbage that wastes what promise it holds
And let's not go into how the developers abandoned the console versions which are like 2 years behind updates. but hey it's not like any of the updates heighten the experience.
At the end of the game enemies are bags of health that spam status effects nonstop. It's cheap and boring. Don't waste your money on this junk. there's better roguelikes out there. MUCH better.
Once the veneer wears off you see it for what it is.
This game is very casual and fun, it's like playing a tabletop game of Dungeons and Dragons. A party of friends make it even more enjoyable.
Lots of fun for solo and multiplayer alike, this is a challenging game, but in a thoughtful way. Full of fun encounters and with no lack of hilarious ways to watch enemies rag doll, For The King is a game that will bring hours of entertainment, with only a little annoyance at RNG unfairness. 9/10 recommended for all except those whose patience may be spread thin.
Literally addictive, haven't been hooked on a game for a while and this just made it happen. It's seems chill but it really isn't! xd
It's slower than I like but it's really fun- The lore shop alone really makes this really addicting xD
Just finished my first campaign, the game is amazing. Cheap too. If you enjoy turn based games, definetly check this one out.
Good game, challenging turnbased combat. Nice to play with friends.
PROS:
- Time itself is a resource.
- Health also is a resource, in contrary to most RPG's here you need to regularly choose between risking to die and using an item/money. Also limited life pool.
- No pre-combat buffing!
- randomness countered by "focus" mechanic, but still Your RUN's can be quite random.
CONS:
- Inventory UI sucks balls. Depending on situation You can or can't access what you actually wear or what your companions have in their inventory. Probably some engine limitation/bug, but very, very annoying.
- for a roguelike tournbased little too long campaigns for me(3-4 evenings for FTK campaign)
Played this Co-op and it's actually good needs more areas and enemies to keep it fresh, but the main thing i want to get across is my hopes that the second game will have better character customization for group players who love their characters and want them to be more distinct, Beyond that this is highly rated for good reasons its like a tabletop game in many ways but is a JRPG combat wise with items you cant see on your character "not that many games like this do that but i digress" the Dev's are on to something with this game and it WILL suck in your time if you love JRPG's and board games even just a little bit.
Great turn based RPG fun. Combat can be frustrating when RNG isn't on your side as is typical of RNG but when it works it is extremely satisfying. The fantasy setting also with cultural references is pretty cool. Different difficulties are really good, on normal I did struggle and even lost during the final boss battle, so you really have to think your actions through which is really cool, lots of depth to the game.
I love this game so much. My boyfriend and I have played for hours on end. Every campaign is unique and different while still in the same world with the weapons, herbs, allowing an unlimited amount of various and gameplay. Highly recommend!
I love this game sooooo much. It's the perfect blend of rogue-like, Rpg, board-game and co-op fun-fest. I'm really excited about the coming sequel as well (so look into that!) but here's my review of the game;
Pros:
Big time replayability -- and if you like there is a cheap DLC that adds new campaigns and characters to keep things fresh.
Unlockables that encourage "One more Game" -- but if you can always play with other people who have other stuff unlocked to get a sneak peek.
Classes are variable and play differently, community that plays the game is instructional and positive -- unlike other games with community toxicity I've only had good experiences finding partners to play with.
Simple to learn but with astounding depth, game has just the right mix of intensity and humor to it.
Loot is fun, varied and very enjoyable and RPGs that get their loot systems right so much more fun!
Also a great entry point for RPGs and can be played both casually and very challenging depending on settings and scenario.
I. LOVE. THIS. GAME. (no better endorsement exists)
I played the hell out of this on the switch and got in on computer, and the gameplay is still challenging and good. A chill game to realx and play
one of my favorite indie games. played it when it first launched on console and now playing it on PC. if you are a fan of strategy D&D like games, i could not recommend this game enough
TLDR: unreasonably unfair RNG, basic mode is ok but the other modes are lame, buy it only if you plan to play at most 10 hours on the lowest difficulty
I think I can leave an honest review after around 150 hours, played all game modes in single and multiplayer and got all achievements.
The idea is interesting, the game appeals to tabletop enjoyers, but it is not very fun. Quite boring at the beginning until you unlock a few items, decent in the mid progression, boring again when everything is unlocked. Classes are not very different from each other besides some insignificant stats and some passives that never seem to activate.
The RNG is horrible especially on higher difficulties, sometimes it feels like it is not random at all. It feels like the devs wanted you not to have fun on a game you just payed for. Higher difficulty only means that your attack rolls fail more often, that's all. For example on the highest difficulty I had a character with 50% critical chance, but only dealt critical damage in 40 hits out of 200 attacks. This does not look like 50% to me and it happened in multiple runs.
The only way to beat this game at higher difficulties is to reload your save when any fight goes wrong (and oh boy, everything will go wrong).
The story is unremarkable, after 150 hours I can safely say that it is nothing that might be remembered even accidentally.
Maps feel quite the same, similar enemies, similar goal (beat that boss with huge health bar and no new mechanics compared to normal enemies before a counter reaches 4 for absolutely no reason), similar maps (one on normal land, one on snow, one in jungle, one on water, and a combination of all without a final boss)
The bonus game modes are garbage, infinite dungeon rooms (great! you took out the exploration from the game, sure, just delete the best part and leave the unfair RNG) and a 5 minute long pseudo-PVP.
Personally I think that games that have hidden achievements are just lazy and of course this is one of them. Feel free to disagree with me, i still think this is a small minus for some people.
I bet my left nut that "For the king 2" will be just the same regarding RNG and difficulty.
For The King
Craziest turn-based rogue game I ever played.
- enemies spawn and despawn randomly
- random events, ambushes, curses determines you win or not
- dying = cant continue where you left
90% of the time it will be against your odd, you have to exit so the odds sides ya
It also uses accuracy for attacks. Lets say you have 80 strength, and the axe you use have 3 rolls:
- each roll has 80% chance to be succesful.
- 3 rolls succesful = full weapon dmg.
- 2 roll succesful = 2/3 weapon dmg.
Focus system is introduced to guarantee success for rolls.
Where to get health/focus is via herbs through killing things, bought at town or rest. Every supply is very important you need to prepare before you enter any dungeons. Once entered you either complete the dungeon or die, restarting the whole game again. Complete madness!
Really dang hard, but that just makes it so rewarding when you finally win. Definitely need friends to play it though.
My wife and I have put hundreds of hours into this game (on Switch and Xbox), and we're still playing on a regular basis. To be able to say that about a game is a very rare thing these days and a tribute to the greatness of For The King
Don't let the simple graphics fool you, this game is fantastic. Just enough strategy and planning to be engaging, while also simple and fun enough to keep playing. TBH, I haven't joined any open sessions online so I haven't had the full FTK experience yet, but between my friends and I, this is a 10/10. Even when we fail and die, having to start again, we laugh and sprint to the lore store.
It's just plain fun. In a lot of ways it feels like a digital board game depending on the mode you play. The classes are distinctly different and weapons and equipment are varied enough where you'll have fun playing through all the classes available.
Overall this game is fun for a casual and slow paced RPG. It can be made into a long drawn out and casual playthrough or a hardcore, gritty, and difficult challenge if that's what you are feeling. The online co-op is a lot of fun. The main disappointment is the for some reason, the game has a maximum of three-player co-op. Why not just have four players is beyond strange to me and a major annoyance for this game.
The game has a great concept, and there is potential for fun. However, I think the balancing is what really ruins it all. For many fights it seems the enemies aren't playing with the same system the players are forced to play with. They'll succeed every attack even stuns and dazes, despite those same options for players being much less likely without focus or very high stats. The only chance for success is either an insane level of min-maxing, or just an incredible amount of good RNG. There's no good form of healing for the players, and instead we're forced to rely on a limited form of resources that get increasingly more expensive. The random elements make some runs feel not worth it, and it feels especially bad to get hours in only to be put in a situation that's impossible to recover from. Even more so because you will be punished even if you aren't playing poorly.
Overall great concept with poor execution that will typically lead to more frustration than fun.
For the first 6 hours my friends and I had a great time, the game was a challenge but it was enjoyable and fair. But at some point in the game, the enemies just become super overwhelming. It feels like they are playing a different game then we are playing.
Our "heroes" just feel like regular townsfolk who wondered too far out of the village while every enemy has 40 dmg AOE abilities that add a burn and take away your focus. Don't worry you can use your very limited God's beards that end up costing 200-300 gold at level 10 to heal every turn so you don't die. Every enemy is immune to 8 things, has physical and magical shields, and hardly ever miss their rolls.
In my opinion, this game doesn't need to be a rouge-like. The game feels very long and tedious which is fine in a classic RPG adventure, but not in a game you have to restart when you die. Our 9 hour first run has exhausted me and my buddies. We don't feel satisfied about the 9 hours, in fact we feel like they were wasted, which makes us not want to start another run at all. I think this game is awesome, i really like turn based games and one i can play with friends is just icing on the cake. But with how much dice rolling and time each run takes, its just much too exhausting to put the hours in to get a lucky run to make it all the way. Give us a way to turn off the rogue elements and i would have a much better time spending hours and hours developing my character.
It seems a relaxing game good to play with friends and solo as well but better with 2 more friends . Although simple it has a lot going . it blends many types of games together . i would recomend if ur bored of heavy minded games .
I bust every time I play this game which is pretty kewl
very fun if you like turn-based strategy and adventure type of games, also nice to play with friends as co-op
A great time with friends. Especially when we are narrating the story and the character's lines. Most casual fun I have had for a while
great game to play with friends!
Tis the good if you enjoy any tabletop RPG
pain and suffering, but in a good way
need more games like this one!
Roguelike with Board Game Elements. It doesn't outstay its welcome and is difficult to complete.
I don't remember having more fun in any other game. This game has made me nearly pass out from delusional laughter several times
Easy to play, yet challenging enough to be addicting.
Why does the flute go so hard?
Super cute game! Love the DnD meets Armello vibe.
Band of misfits= 0
Mimic= 1
RNG= -83%
friend: REEEEEEEEE FUCKING RNG
me & friend 2: Get Gud amigo
Too dependent on RNG to be good. Feels OK at first, but your stats that effect RNG success rate don't go up as fast as the sheer number of RNG checks you have to make does. Overall you feel less powerful as you level up because you just end up with more chances for RNG failure.
I feel like "fun with friends" is a cop-out phrase because literally doing nothing is "fun with friends". You don't get to take credit for that, game. It doesn't tell me anything to say that something is "fun with friends".
That being said if you have a couple buddies and you're looking for something to play, this is a quirky little co-op tactical turn-based RPG that y'all can kill some time in pretty easily.
I'm not going to lie, I don't really remember what difficulty settings we played on, but it felt like it was decently tuned if maybe a little harsh. You can get majorly screwed over by RNG in this game, straight up, and while it's funny from time to time you *might* find yourselves a bit frustrated at times. On the flip side it's got a few tiny moments where everything is coming up aces and you're in tune with your co-op partners and the combat can feel pretty good.
The biggest problem is that you're really going to run out of game pretty quickly here unless you *really* enjoy essentially the same game over and over again as different classes. Once you've basically got everything figured out the novelty wears off, at least in my opinion.
I've never once endeavored to play this game in single player mode, it's probably fine? I could not imagine it gripping me without having people to talk to and cooperate with.
I mean full stop it's worth the money if the concept sounds appealing, you'll get a solid week or two of game nights out of it and move on. I haven't looked into the DLC and well hey, maybe someday?
This game is the absolute pinnacle of turnbased strategy. Whenever I load into the game, I soil my undies in excitement for what is to come(no pun intended). Eternal Bliss.
Looks nice but extremly annoying even at easiest difficulty.
It's great. I play it solo occasionally - but far more often with a roomate and it's very enjoyable.
This game has a lot of good ideas and mechanics. I really like the combat system.
My biggest complaint is I found moving of my characters individually in the overworld tedious. I didn't find it added a lot of strategy, it just made it take 3 times as long to get anywhere. I assume it's designed this way for coop, but it made the single player experience feel like a chore.
Teambuilder Turnbased RPG to be compared to Ogre battle 64 and Final Fantasy the classics this is very fun and offers tuns of replayability with wild magic and chaos at every turn. Just watch out for the kraken!
Great roguelike. The scaling can be a little bullshit at times but gets easier once you unlock better weapons and encounters through multiple runs. Lots of cool stuff and very worth the money!
Super fun turn based RPG. Takes some patience and coordination. For roguelike fans, it'll be a great experience. Be prepared to fail often.
Is way too underrated, for it's price/quality, is quite a gem back here.
The RNG can be a pain though ...
Great game. Lots of fun. Massive replayability if a bit repetative.
great old school turn based game light on story big on exploration
A fantastic game. Expect to be challenged and especially... expect to die. Though it's these factors that make progression even more rewarding. You can adjust difficulty factors and will see scaling depending on the number of players (Max 3). It is enjoyable playing single player, but like most games the experience is even better with friends. Overall, if you are a fan of co-op games in the RPG genre then this game is a great addition to your library.
Initially I was quite enjoying this game, an interesting RNG system where you had the ability to force a limited number of successes in intense situations. It felt like the type of games I enjoy where you are forced to succeed with a limited number of resources. However, as I continued I found some aspects quite frustrating.
The game forces you to control and move characters around the map individually, I had thought this would lead to an interesting dynamic of splitting the group to get more resources vs staying together for a combat advantage. In practice since health is such a premium resource I found that the cost in health for fighting things individually was never worth the tradeoff. If I could keep my party together as a unit I would in a heartbeat as it would remove a 2/3rds of the clicking and time on the world map. Eventually I chalked this up as an annoying UI decision that enabled multi-player control of individual characters.
The thing that made me put the game down was enemy ambushes. Typically you can see enemies on the map and any unit within 2-3 hexes will be included in combat. You can position your units to help on tough fights or try to split things up. However when you are ambushed (which happens rarely but seemingly completely randomly) it will pull the one character into combat with the enemy and no help for other units standing nearby. You better hope that it's a good matchup and not your physical tank against a magic enemy that will shred him in 2 attacks or so. Things like this that seem to have no indications and no counterplay can just kill your characters and really soured what I felt was an otherwise interesting strategy game.
2% chance death... shoulda played around it... also remove confusion or game is trash
This is a wonderfully brutal co-op rogue-like adventure. It's not overly complicated, but there's plenty of content to enjoy for the price. The tabletop styled turn-based mechanics are hitting a sweet spot for me. Cursor movement on controllers is a bit odd at times, but overall the game has a lot of polish.
I like these kinds of rpgs, unlike those "rpgs" that are just hack and slashes. Just one thing to know: you will die a lot.
I failed a 91% roll when searching for an item in the overworld. If this isn't peak DnD, I don't know what is.
one of the greatest games of all time
First game I've stayed up all night playing with a friend in a LONG time! Love it even if we lost horribly our first go around!
Relaxing game to play with friends. Probably good solo as well but have only played multiplayer. Game moves a little slower than other turn based combat games but its pretty enjoyable.
Riot Cyclone Should kill himself
really fun, a lot of replay value. c;
i ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS GAME!!! Even if you finish every map... guess what each time you play it is so different and you never end up with the same stuff each time. Even if the story is the same the play through is never the same. I am excited for For The King 2 to arrive next year. I hope is it does become 4 player. That is my only beef with this version is that it is not for 4 players. If you like DnD then this game is and wheel be in your wheelhouse!!! Twitch: @DarlinDollCait
Really great party game that takes me back to the old days of getting together with the friends on Xbox and playing a fun little indie game you all got for cheap and get hours and hours of enjoyment out of. The game stays fresh by adding new content that you ACTUALLY want through the lore shop, that you unlock from playing the game and getting further. Failure isn't frustrating like other rougelikes combat and the interplay between friends can range from hilarious to legitimately engaging. Much better with friends but it's in no way required to get enjoyment out of. Can be played solo controlling all three characters in the party, solo as one character or play with multiple friends.
+Diversity in runs
Each run tends to be unique, although repetitive after a while
+Amazing graphics
The game has smooth and stunning graphics
+unique customizations
characters rarely look remotely similar
+variety
MANY enemies, weapons, modes, equipments, etc
-Lag
Frames freeze on enemy deaths (even on my high end pc)
-complex
takes a while to figure out what your doing
-plot
I don't want to spoil to much, but.... there isn't much to spoil, and of the small bit of plot that exists, its actually pretty crummy.
The game is good, but has a LOT of issues.
This is the closest thing to DnD you'll get as far as video games go. Yes I know Divinity exists and I know about Baldurs Gate, too. But what For The King does well is the bite sized story adventures, almost everything having a roll, and the never ending fear of team wiping!
Speaking of teams, man is it fun to play with friends. The only thing you can't do is cast guiding bolt on your friends, which is a shame. It's got tons of story options, every run is randomized, and it really pushes you to play as a team.
The gameplay is relatively simple. You have encounters, events, and you fight through a series of bosses. There's a difficulty level for everyone, and you can even make a custom one if you need to (no shame, honestly). I've had a lot of fun with this game, and I'll continue to for longer. I highly recommend this game if you like DnD or story based battle games.
its a fun silly goofy little game to play with your discord kitten
some of the encounters in this game are actually bullshit and unwinnable, literally ahead and can kill anything else but as soon as this dumb bitch boomer, his bard, and deathmark assassin bitch shows up you either have to sacrifice your sanctum or lose the run. It's unfair and fucking stupid, really hope its fixed in the second game.
Just got the glass lute, it broke first try. I love this game
Great to play with friends or solo, exciting, well rounded and funny.
I keep coming back to it every couple of months.
You could be the best warrior in the world and still lose at the end to RNG.
like dnd without a dm which is fun
95% for 4 rolls and I didn't hit a single one.. fuck this game
I like the cute graphics and the mathematical play. (Basic probability will do you a world of good.)
Incredible Co-op experience. It is weird having an odd number of players to control if you only have one friend that plays with you. However, if you work through that and you all get familiar with your roles and don't get greedy with the equipment you will do awesome. The time advancement is a pain to manage at times and requires some purpose thought....oh and make sure your teammate and you are close enough to one another to help out on fights are you will be in a losing match as you toss away your few lives.
In addition, you will need to display some patience as you play with others as each person gets a move so, if you start combat without one of them it can make for some boring gameplay.
very fun and enjoyable game but has some certain bugs that are quite annoying at times, but it isn't too major and not too many bug that take long to solve
Amazing game, great story, and a lot to do. Definitely something all D&D players, and people who like fantasy games in general should at least try once before judging.
Excellent time killer. Perfect tabletop sim. Two thumbs up!
Amazing game. If you like table top adventure games this is the closest thing in digital format.
hop on this game and i ll play with ya, anytime.anywhere.anyplace.
Takes a lot of patience and teamwork/party build is essential but it's really really fun
Fun! Great for playing with a friend or two!
This game is fun but you will have an abusive relationship with this game. The RNG in this game is bad. You will most of the time fail attacks that have more than 80% success rate. Critical damages are common when the enemies has only 1 or 2 HP left. "There is a chance for your items to be stolen after battle?" the chance is 9/10 times. Despite all these, I still enjoy the game.
Very fun. I really enjoy it. It also has many fun unlocks that constantly add for content.
Very fun multiplayer coop, no noticeable bugs, cool art design and engaging gameplay. Good difficulty level.
imagine ur sitting there playing for like 3 hours and a leprechaun steals 1.5k gold from your team. Banger, I barely even knew her.
"95% chance to succeed"
"Dies"
Should have seen that coming.
The game is fun initially, but RNG is poorly thought out and that ruins the experience over time. Rolls are not fair, probability is always against you. The game feels awesome until you get to a point where you have like 95 strength, is 2 hours deep into your campaign and then completely fail a roll with a 5-roll weapon that, according to probability, is only supposed to fail all 5 tests 0.25% of the time. You think to yourself "hmm that's fair, 95% per roll is not the same as 100%. My rolls will fail every now and then". Then you get curious, decide to test it out and reload the game just for that purpose, believing you won't see such an occurrence again so easily. Nope, you try the same roll 10 more times and it fails in 4 of those. That's not 0.25% chance. It COULD be, but try this type of thing enough and you'll see the probabilities don't match what's on screen. The numbers just don't feel right, what you see is NOT what you get. That creates a lingering feeling that difficulty feels unfair. The "challenge" can't be countered because it's embedded in almost every action the game offers you. If the game decides it's time for you to have a full battle of unlucky rolls that will cost you hours of gameplay, that's what's going to happen. Doesn't matter what you do against it. That's not to mention some other utterly weird decisions by the devs — I still don't get why you need to roll dice in order to move your characters on the map, it just makes the game slow down to a drag and feel frustrating. The UI is horrible and looks super lazy. Animations take way more time than needed, even when you speed them up. Runs feel largely the same every time, there's little variation in what happens. You unlock tons of stuff in the Lore Store only for those items to never show up in any of your runs. There's lots of potential here, but the lazy execution from devs cutting corners unnecessarily hera and there just throws me off completely. I felt like this was a magical experience for a while, but the more you play it, the more glaring the game's faults become. I'm out.
Nice quick fun. Perfect for playing with friends.
For Solo, 2 or 3 players
Individual turn-based actions and group combat turn based actions.
Hexagonal world map movement, which is great for overworld movement
Dungeons are directional and automated, so you only deal with the encounters and not the movement.
A small array of things available to start with, though increases as you locate more ‘Lore’ to purchase things from more character types to items and encounters, through to cosmetics.
You will need to play several times through before you start getting used to the intricacies of the game, this is not a bad thing, as even on easy, it is challenging.
Most DLC’s are free

The game is really fun with friends and really kills time if you're on your own, and I mean it REALLY kills time. If you hop on the game and have plans for the next day you're probably going to have to cancel. Probably hits harder than my alcohol problem and felt more grief dying in the game than when my girlfriend dumped me, 10/10 would recommend.
bonk.
its a fun game, best played casually. expect RNG to totally screw you up even if you have everything in your favor.
Great game, but a couple gripes:
- Even on "Turbo Mode," it takes forever to play with all the animations.
- The UI is horrible, horrible, horrible. I generally have to press "I" about 5 times for the inventory menu to show up. The things that do work as designed are pretty unintuitive.
- Gameplay is nice, but pretty repetitive. In typical JRPG style, it turns into "Grind until number go up." Still worth playing a few runs, but quickly stale.
its a fun little tabletop rpg-esque time sink. if you like roguelikes, youll like this one
Fun game to play with 2 other friends.
Though there are things that should be adjusted.
1. FIX THE SUCCESSFUL HIT RATES!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD IT TILTS ME TO SEE MY RUNS END CAUSE I GET 8 TURNS OF MISSES BUT THE MOBS GET PERFECT HITS ALL THE F_ING TIME.
2. Wish they scaled the game base off of how many characters you intend to play. Example: Want to do a run with one character limit cap mobs you fight to 1-2. Cause sometimes you don't want to handle 3 separate characters.
3. Increase chances of passive skills to pop off.
Besides these I mentioned, the game is really addicting honestly.
Praying to the RNG gods for anyone who plays and knows the pain.
Forced Ironman mode (autosave). This was added recently as I watched several YouTubers go back to saves after making mistakes. I would not have purchased the game if I had known this. The game is insanely hard. I watched hours of tips and tricks and if you make 1 or 2 small mistakes you'll lose 3 hours of gameplay or more because you have to start from scratch. Booo, very bad move
Very fun casual turn-based game.
I picked this game up during the summer sale for around $7, not sure if it would be worth it or not. There is a bit of a learning curve but once you understand the basics and how to approach the game it becomes a lot more fun. It can be kind of hard to learn to play blind, so if you hate having to spend a bit of time learning strategy before playing this game may not be for you, but IMO it is worth it 100%, especially on sale. Very enjoyable game now that I have gotten in to the swing of things.
fun long term turn based strategy game.
For The King, a very good maybe even one of the best co-op games out there. Most co-op games out there don't really require you to cooperate with your team and you can kind of just go on your own with co-op being a feature. With this game it forces you to play as a team, you pick your characters and find ways to make your team workout. I.e my team is a Hunter, Bard, and a Blacksmith. We had to find ways to make our team work and found weapons and armor sets that work really well. You have to actually work as a team and which makes this game really fun. For such a small game it has so much content in it. Love it
Though I don't play this game much, I already feel like loving this game so much. Gameplay is a little bit too difficult, art is soothing to experience, and best thing about this game is allowing Remote Play Together with friends. 10/10
ps: waiting for For The King 2
crashing all over the place, this developer is disabled, and so is the game.
Bastante entretenido, los controles a veces fallan ligeramente, y se puede jugar hasta de tres con remote play together
Lots o' fun, can waste a day playing this easy. Great if you are looking to play a board game with folks, but people aren't all in the same room.
A wonderful D20 hex experience with tons of evolving enemies, quests, loot, and danger!!!!
very nice game to play with friends
funny ragdoll go "oo ough ouch!! oooaaaauughhooo"
Stole all my friends gold, 10/10
Game doesn't explain even its most basic mechanics. Wants to be difficult for the sake of being difficult. Pass.
This game is awesome! It can be challenging, but that's what makes it fun to play. It's not just some easy game that you mindlessly play, but it's not so hard that it's frustrating. I recommend this game to all of my friends because you can play together!
This game is great, even better with others. With 2 other friends just messing around having fun. It's very goofy and oftenly unlucky but its beyond fun. Great buy.
They said it is really good and it is!
Play with friends, make them sad that you get all the good gear and their character is stuck with starting weapons, shun your friend with low intelligence for driving the boat directly into a ghost ship.
An excellent game to play with your GF or BF to test the relationship, yes, For The King is a good relationship stress test.
Stress being the keyword here, FML.
Probably one of the best coop RPG implementations. Highly replayable, not as fun solo but that is not a surprise.
This game is surprisingly addictive, and a blast to play with friends! The gameplay is relatively simple and most of the overworld is laid out like a board game. One of the exciting (and frustrating) mechanics is the importance of dice rolls - they determine practically everything in the game!
Gather your friends, test your mettle, and have a great time laughing at the combat animations!
A Great Roleplay Game For all ages
Screw this game and it's mother.
Super fun especially with friends
Very good. Fun to play with friends. Can be challenging, some strategy involved, but also a lot of luck.
It was only $5, but it was $5 I regretted spending
this game has always been my favorite turn based game, can't wait for the second one!!!
MATI SEBELUM BOS AKHIR ANJING HILANG SAVENYA
Very fun game that's just an all around good time. The Co-op is just an added bonus that makes this game 3 times better for each extra person you're playing with.
Fun game, fun quests and great finish on any difficulty!
prank him john.
hahahaha. you already know.
Game is enjoyable, my experiences so far is great. I prefer playing this game with a group of friends, especially whenever we aren't in person doing our normal D&D sessions. I'd say this is a simple fun alternative, especially to pass the time.
6 hours in and died to rock snake, 11/10 would recommend
This has been a wonderful game for my wife and I to enjoy together. Great execution of the graphic style and the sound design when compared to rag-doll effects are hilarious!
fun time killer and also fun with friends
