*** DON'T GIVE YOUR MONEY TO FLAMING FIREFLY WHEN THEY HAVE NO QUALMS ABOUT DECEIVING, CHEATING, OR STEALING FROM YOU ***

FOREST FORTRESS is like going to a fancy restraint for a well-presented dish, where just beyond the kitchen doors the chef scratches his junk with your fork and spits at the cockroaches scurrying around your food. With each huff and haw, the cigarette dangling from his mouth drops little chunks of ash into the pot below. Their presence soon dissolves in the surrounding sauces; the smell masked by overwhelming heavy spices; all that remains is some faint gritty and bitter aftertaste. All the people deceived by the dishes’ presentation won’t even notice it--or the waiter scrambling to copy down their credit card numbers.

There are unordinary risks here. A consistent pattern of behavior from the developer FLAMING FIREFLY has proven a willingness to abuse power, violate rules, abandon both contractually and implied agreements, and steal from users through unjust enrichment if not outright theft. To be direct: there is a significant and unusual risk when purchasing FOREST FORTRESS that the (elsewhere assumed) relationship of trust between customer and developer could be violated on a whim based on their series of worsening behavior.

Though the windowed resolution is limited to 1600x900, the developer manages to squeeze a lot out of the small 200 MB download and implement some impressive animated effects that add life to the otherwise mundane backgrounds. However FORREST FORTRESS, has some major caveats which outweigh anything else the game has to offer. This is unfortunately not the typical situation where a work is able to stand for itself. That would be akin to an ordinary car review for a pinto-hatchback, rather than emphasizing the genuine risk of exploding in a fiery death if hit from behind. You cannot trust any review that glosses over it. Sure, it didn’t happen on my test, and it might not happen to you, but it’s so outside the normal expectations of a purchase that it’s the only point worth emphasizing.

Here too you risk that whatever you buy today could effectively be destroyed or taken tomorrow while you are helpless to do anything. We make purchases trusting that devs will not act out in malicious/spiteful ways or attempt to rob/cheat us. We trust developers will not issue some disingenuous “graphics update” replacing the entire game with a stick figures because it amuses them and you can do nothing. If they did, we don't even have reason to expect Valve’s help as long as they keep up the slightest appearance of artistic interpretation, and never outright acknowledge trolling the owners. The possibilities grow ever wider for rogue developers that no longer care even about appearances or their work being on Steam anymore. An unprofessional and emotionally stunted developer could spitefully decide to overwrite their game with 1’s and 0’s and delete all traces of past editions if they had no intentions or desires to work with Valve again.

Ordinarily these sorts of risk are so unlikely as to be unquestionable, particularly if its assumed the developer ever wants to make or sell another game. Yet what if we’ve seen the developer—like FLAMING FIREFLY---act out in other ways that contradict our assumptions? You're involving yourself with a developer who has:

    • Fraudulently sold game keys in bundles, only to revoke all remaining copies after receiving payment

    • Shown no care, concern, or regret about willfully violating legal contracts or otherwise totally disregarding the most fundamental good-faith between customers and developers

    • Avoided and ignored the customers and bundlers they robbed, while using every tactic available to hide these events other potential customers

    • Silenced critics and complaints to cover their tracks by deleting posts and abusing permabans in violation of all Steam moderating guidelines

    • Censored, dismissed, and permabanned even customers just trying to activate their rightfully purchased games (people who did nothing but ASK what happened)

    • Hidden behind sock-puppet accounts to attack and insult their critics, while belittling the people whom they cheated.

    • Utilized these same sock-puppet attacks to spam their patreon and directly link the adult patches, showing that not even Valve’s policy’s matters to them, or will stop them from doing whatever they choose.

Even now Flaming Firefly knowing advertises trading cards for the game when they have not been approved by Valve yet and may never exist.

They mimic the appearance of professional demeanor in public, while reverting to full scummy behaviors as soon as no one is watching or can react. Like the best predators, Flaming Firefly adopts an appropriate, proper image in public, and hides their intentions carefully until no one else is around to see them pounce. Their morals and sense of business are dictated by opportunity. If given the chance, they lash out for emotional and personal vindication without regard for their career, customers, professionalism, or fairness.

We’ve already seen this tendency to hover just barely within the rules and acceptable standards until customers are totally vulnerable and without recourse. We’ve already seen FLAMING FIREFLY place ego and self-interest above their contractual/legal agreements and good faith behavior. We’ve already seen their willingness to burn bridges with bundle companies and make enemies of potential customers as if there’s no concern for their current or future professional arrangement. We’ve already seen them play fast and loose with Steam’s policies as well—ignoring and violating them as they please too.

You should treat FOREST FORTRESS with the same skepticism you would any third party download, and be cautious about what might show up. More than that, you cannot trust that this game will be supported. No matter what you get now, you are not assured the unspoken guarantee that it won’t be wiped out in a way that even Steam cannot revert. Despite appearances, this game and developer are not ones you'd ever find on a place like Humble Bundle. Real developers do not behave like this, so please do not delude yourself into assuming the same fundamental respect and guarantees that real developers provide. Those ordinary standards shouldn’t provide the slightest comfort or consolation to any customers willing to roll the dice on FOREST FORTRESS.

You won’t just be encouraging someone who’s done the above things, you’ll be gambling with your money that this persistent pattern of behavior won’t evolve or extend any further than it already has. I cannot more highly recommend that you avoid FOREST FORTRESS at all costs and instead support one of the many, many, many HONEST developers among the genre. If you chose to forgo this warning, I can only hope that you back up the game separately, and make sure to set “only when launched” to delay any updates.... just in case this captain decides the ship goes down with them.

About the game - the graphics are beautiful. Characters are animated. Some of the scenes are also animated.

Of course the graphics are not the level of the NEKOPARA, but is still good.
In addition, the game has at least some kind of plot. In NEKOPARA you just wait for sex scenes.
I do not deny that the game exploits sexual content, but is this a minus?

In short, weak story and character, sad english translation, sadder H-scenes and so expensive.

If you feel that you need to support this game's artist, go ahead, the backgrounds and characters are nice. But these qualities are not enough to make me buy a 10$+ VN. If you'd like the overall VN quality on steam to go up, don't promote this game.

Pros: - The plot
- The visuals, especially with the extra files I added to replace the original ones ;)

The game has 4 endings. I hope for the continuation of the story.

This visual does have potential it has a great story and has characters who you'll love and are extremely hot . But... sadly the story is way to short for the amount I paid to read this visual novel and it just felt like it was more of a free to play game. If your going to pay for this game you should wait till it's on sell. while I wouldn't mind reading a second part I hope it will be longer and worth the price I paid for it and read more reviews before buying.

Beautiful, well written but heavily sexualised so know that before you buy it. I love monster girls ;) The only problem I actually have with it is there are no achievements which really discourages me from exploring the multiple endings.

Ishimoto
Ishimoto

It has potential however it is very expensive for a rather short VN, it seems that there has been no QA testing as there has been quite a few typos as well as some issues with sentence structure. There is no visual effect when you mouse over the options in the main menu which is kinda odd considering a huge majority of other VNs have that.

However there is a premise of a story and the continuation of said story, the artwork for this game is great, the characters look amazing (Rika is best) and the interactions between them are good. (hopefully it gets story continuation with updates)

I would recommend this game but to either wait for a sale or wait for updates

Sometimes you buy games you know you should stay away from, and get pleasantly surprised. This was not one of those times.

Horrible English translation, some of the worst erotic scenes I've ever had the misfortune to read, and an unfinished story ending with a cliffhanger.

I like the art style, the girls are cute and the animations breathe a little life into the characters, but those assets could have been used for something interesting rather than this overpriced cash grab.

My play time is inflated due to leaving the game open while doing other things; you can get all three romance endings within 2 hours, reading slowly.

blink37

A short visual novel with erotic hints. If you like dating sim in a fantasy setting - I recommend it.

The graphics are very good - most of the CG are animated.

About the plot - the ending is a bit blurry.

This kept me entertained for about 3 min taking some screenshots. Do not like the art style. I just hope I got this on deep sale (bought it quite a while ago)

I was stupid enough to buy a whole bunch of visual novels back then because of the great reviews those games always get. Why this, you might ask: Only fans of the genre buy, play and review this kind of games...

Alright, I would give this game a 8/10

Pros:
Good Story
Great Artwork
Choices Affect the story
Animated characters
Three different girls you can hook up with
Lots of Nudity scenes(most of the scenes are animated)
Patch +

Cons:
Some Spelling errors
Only gives you around 3 hours /But you can always go back and take a different route/
--
If you like reading the story instead of just buying it for the nudity, then this is a good game for you.

im split 50/50 between actually recommending this visual novel game in general.

The story is short but the three main characters are charismatic,
The art is colorful and dynamic but somehow it feels rushed in place,
The variety of choices are few but the endings are adorable/romantic +1 romance when using the patch
and the final ending is a cliffhanger but the story is too short to have such a suspended suspense- the devs should have invested time to put more story in this one game instead of making it a short two-parter.. even if steam policies are obstructing these kind of games

If you have a few dollars to spare and you want a relaxing soundtrack with cute red head animu girls, have at it.
I would have never bought this if it wasnt on sale. Though i dont regret it, i dont find myself immersed in the novel's story as much as I imagined I would- which is dissapointing.

This is a short visual novel, where you play a human trying to find a cure for a sickness in your village, as well as seeking your lost brother. Along the way, you meet three girls that... there is a chance you will end up with, dependant on your choices.

The ending is a bit abrupt, seeming to indicate there may be a sequel on the way.

Also, there is a patch that allows for... seeing certain bits. Not that the dialogue in those scenes are that great...

Don't get, there's better visual novels/adult games out there. Note, I played with the nude patch, so I got the full experience.

1. It's short. Like really short. Even inside the game, it basically only has half a plot. It ends, and you're looking at a teaser screen for what should have been the second half of the game.
2. The branches in the novel are trivial, and only alter the intimate scenes. There's no real plot outcome change, no real alternate endings.
3. The art is solid, but not unique, and not worth the price of admission alone.
4. The Gallery isn't animated, so if you ever want to see the scenes again, you have to replay. (also, the gallery remains censored)
5. On auto mode, it's very easy to skip past intimate scenes, even ones you haven't seen before.

It's just not a very good implementation of a visual novel, with not enough content compared to others.

Raekko
Raekko

The story is okay. It would of been better with good writing. The dialogue seems poorly translated.
Dale is such an odd name for a protagonist. Maybe I don't read much but I have never seen a dale in fiction before (besides the walking dead)
The other girls are fine. I like their designs. Boobs are good too. Don't forget that 18+ patch otherwise this game will be crap
This game would benefit with more backgrounds. I hated looking at the same background for several dialogue scene transistions.
Music is the worst part of this game. I can only take the same song repeated so many times before I just mute it.
I would say yeah buy it if it's on sale. It wont change your life at all but it will get you erect for an adventure.

Definately Reccommending this game to all dating sim lovers. The sexual content is amazing. Only downside is its pretty short.....

Forest Fortress is very simple, short and fun visual novel to play through. It seems like a good start for those that want to get into visual novel games-- granted it's not the best choice, but a good start. Loved many of the artworks that was in the game, both appealing and beautiful, along with the animated 2D scenes with a good story.

As I said before, it's a very short game, but it's to make a supense at the end. I personally say that it's a bad move. Why it's bad? Well for those that personally want to have the entire story in one game will have to wait for another short visual novel game of Forest Fortress to continue/finish the novel. Also the music is nice to listen to, but for those that wants to hear multiple of musics I'm afraid your gonna have to endure with the very limited tracks that are in the game. If you like listening to the same music repeatedly, then you should be alright.

Steam has censored the game, but the game has a 18+ patch to install for those that want the uncensored version of the game. I still personally reccommend to get this game for those that want to get there foot into playing visual novels. The artworks are nice with three characters you can choose to be in a relationship and having a good story that ends in a suspense. Rating: 7.8/10

Not recommended.

The game is too short and ends with a cliffhanger. The game basically just ends by the time the story starts moving.

Your choices don't really matter. Your choices only affect which girl you end up dating, no meaningful story branches, nothing. The description implies you get to side with the corruption, but you don't. The only options you get are a) stay on the good path or B) get the only bad end you can get 5-10 minutes into the game. All other choices only affect your girlfriend, as I stated before.

The story isn't all that great either. The game seems to try to set up some sort of moral ambiguity with the squirrels, but ends up defaulting back to the "the other side is clearly evil" narrative. So initially it seems interesting, but just flops at the end.

OmegaShadow
OmegaShadow

Although it seems like a boring game at first, it gets more and more interesting. The place where the story takes place is unique, and the characters have some very interesting personalities. It was interesting to play it and get to every possible end. I'm sorry it ended so fast without having to save all the forest, but all she says is that it's a very good game, even if this gallery is corrupted because it does not show you all the pictures even if you unlock them after you finish playing the game several times in different ways.

Hellession

Forest Fortress is a fantasy VN with 18+ elements.
Note that you need to download an 18+ patch, otherwise it will be partially censored.
This game has a kind-of branching storyline, but I'll get into it later.

The plot of the game and kind of the starting part is explained in the game's description, so with that information, if you don't want more spoilers, you can ignore the blacked out part, since I'll give you an option to read it through.
If you want to see all possible paths of the game and a guide, I made an entire game's route guide here.
You play as some dude looking for cure for a terrifying disease and his lost brother. At the start he gets attacked and a squirrel girl(Rika) saves him and then tells him about the danger of corruption and that dryads brought it into the forest. You go somewhere with her and then she leaves you because it's 'too late'. You start hallucinating and seeing a dryad, who eventually goes fully nude while you can't do anything. You wake up in that dryad's cave, whose name is Olly. In that scene you have your first choice prompt, where, how you respond, will influence the amount of 'points' each girl has and that influences who will become your gf at the end. You continue looking more around the forest despite Olly's suggestions, but then are chased by some monster. You manage to flee, but get exhausted and are eventually found by Rika. Rika hides after Olly arrives. Olly asks you to come back to her cave and then leaves you looking for head dryad to help you. She doesn't come back in hours. This is now the point where you start having hallucination stuff happen again and you can either flee or investigate. Investigating twice and then clicking 'Yes' causes you to reach what I call the 'BAD ENDING' and the story ends. If you flee you sleep, wake up in daytime, still don't find Olly and escape. You are then found by another squirrel girl Lily, who is cruel to you and nearly kills you on the way to her tribe. Turns out Lily is the princess of squirrels and Rika is her sister. Lily then wants you to dance with Rika for a festival or whatever, although that never happens and instead sets up the environment for the very first H-Scene. Then you help work on the cure for dryads, which is tested on Olly and works, then Olly is brought to the squirrel tribe and this is basically the end. By the end you are tested on points and you can have Lily, Rika or Olly become your gf or actually be left with no gf. Then the game ends with a cliffhanger scene, where head dryad wants to punish those who are making them lose influence over the humans.

Ok, so in my opinion, the story is interesting... but short. It took me ~3 hours to complete. I am not sure if this is something I'd get for the price of 15 Euros(costs more than Starbound, Terraria or any of the Nekopara games). I'd rate the game higher if there was an update with more story.
The art of the game is stunning. This also helps the h-scenes, about which I'll talk about later. All characters are animated. A lot of CGs are also animated(including ALL H-scene CGs). The art is just beautiful. The art rating, however, will suffer in conjunction to the problem with the H-scenes that I'll talk about later. Also.. I am not sure if it's just a feeling but the backgrounds are a bit overused.
The music is meh... there's like 3 songs that I remember hearing in the game: upbeat, calm and evil(melancholic). The only track that got me in its intended mood is the evil one, although that may be because the game itself usually turns into dark and cold colors when 'evil' scenes play. The music just gets annoying to listen to because it's a bit overused.
So let's talk about Mature Content... There are 6 H-Scenes and 9 total explicit CGs in the game. All, as mentioned before, are animated. The animations are good and all, but they are sometimes not aligned with what's actually going on. Also, many 'states' are usually just missing. You never see an actual orgasm, it just keeps on going. There are no sound effects to accompany these scenes(the characters of the game are not voiced at all). This basically means that H-Scenes have a lot of room for improvement.

Okay. Numerical rating time:
Full Rating: 7/10
Artwork: 9/10
Music: 4/10
Story: 7/10
Mature Content: 7/10
Characters: 8/10

Only get this if it's discounted. It's definitely not worth $17. The translation is not good, and all the characters act like petulent children and it doesn't make sense! The story is acceptable but the amount of poorly translated dialogue between petulent children wears it down. The saving grace is the artwork, especially if you get the adult patch. That part is worth the $5.

ForestFortress is a really good adventure romance with a really nice storytheme.
The story goes about a human boy, setting on on search for a medecine to cure his village from an unknown illness, until he met a squirrelgirl which saved his life from a Vine plant. After this we meet a dryad girl which are considered after the squirrels warning as evil and have to be avoided.
These warings thoughs couldnt be cnfirmed by him and the dryad seemed t be actually really caring.
Later on after encountering again the squirrel he got informed that the forest the dryad are obscured by a dark god s powwer thank tothe dryadd Lady and therefore it is known that the humans in the village felll ill thanks to this dark presence. Soon he found himself encountering another squirrel which ended up bringing him alongin her village and to be the princess of the village and therewe meet again Rika the first squirrel we met. From there on we are ordered to do all kind of things as to purify, to do, to entertain and to go on mission, do participate in a sacred ance etc.... From there on we also build relationships and with each event event if chosing the right option we are likely rewarded with a scene of some adult content.

The storyflow is rather quickpaced but the universe it is set is a interesting and intriguing one, with alot of different places. The races are also well though the artstyle is relatively good, though for there expression there is some adjustement and improving necessary, they are not really how expressions should be and so its missing some authentiity of the current subjects,

I can definitely recommend this VN, it is not a complete story, it seems like a second part will be coming in near future and complete the already good story. The story itself n this part isnt long, for slow reader around 10hours the story has been read and little more if you through all 3 different routes.

Cogar
Cogar

This was a surprisingly entertaining game. At the time of this writing, I’ve finished all three routes in a little more than seven hours (using some fast forwarding when going through the story the second and third times) and thought it was great.

The graphics are better than Treasure of a Blizzard—both the backgrounds and the character sprites. Except for Olly, the characters in this story are somewhat combative (similar to Treasure of a Blizzard). The plot is straightforward. During the course of the game, you meet three girls. Choose one and stay loyal to her and things should work out. The story lines of each of the girls was satisfying enough that if theirs was the only route, I would be OK with the game. While playing, I selected my potential decisions first and then consulted the guide by derailed_omega_male to confirm what my choices did to avoid misinterpreting the somewhat awkward wording. Most of you should know what I am talking about.

There are some fanservice scenes (sexy, but not 18+ content), and scenes that go beyond fanservice. For those who want to see what the developer originally intended for those, you can install the patch (not available on Steam). Note that the patch will only convert those scenes intended to portray lovemaking into something more erotic. Fortunately, these really were lovemaking scenes—not the usual “defeat the elf and make her succumb to your desires” junk that occupies the writing/artwork of so many H games today. The balance between fanservice and 18+ content seems to be chosen well to fit the story and the disclosure or progression of the character relationships. The artwork of the 18+ scenes is high quality, using the “Live 2D” technology.

As you have no doubt read in other reviews, the story makes a shift in the last slides that add a cliffhanger. Personally, I think that if you just ignore the final slides, which set up a segue into the planned sequel, the three endings of Forest Fortress are fine. That is, each is at least as good as the endings you get with many other games. Recommended.

Bought this game on a whim, when it was last on sale. (Its even cheaper as of this posting) It's a fun little adventure that takes you into the mystical lands of fantasy. While a new threat lingers on the horizon. With animated sprites and colorful backgrounds.

Unfortunately is rather short and is a bit disproportionate. When it comes to which love interest you're trying to pursue. With Rika being the one you spend the most time with and default 'love intrest.' Unless, you go out of your way to be mean to her. Also, only the three heroines have sprites. Plus, while the backgrounds are nice, they are rather limited. Also, it sort of abruptly ends. Just as things are getting intresting.

But the question the most you probably have. Is it worth buying? And the answer is yes, but not at full price. Were this game an introduction to a much grander story. Then I would say that it is worth the full price tag, but as it sits now. (As of this posting) It's just a standalone game that has no continuation.

TLDR;

PROS:
Colorful animated sprites
Well made backgrounds
Intresting story
Multiple love intrests

CONS:
Limited sprites
Not a lot of backgrounds
Really short
Character interaction imbalance
A bit pricey for what you get

If there is something I missed or I got some of the details wrong. Please let me know in the comments below and I'll correct as needed.

Extremely short, maybe 4 actual decisions and two out of the three characters are awful. Maybe a little harsh, but this is not even worth the discount price.

Second time I've bought what I thought was a mature-content game on Steam only to find out that no, you need to go get a patch from an external site. I didn't learn about this until I was most of the way through, so I got exactly one lewd scene and then the game abruptly ended.
