Forsaken Remastered. - 360 degree speed shooter - Descent fans will love this!
This game is a remake of a 1990s 360 degree space shooter. There is not a lot of these types of games on the go but Descent games are also the same type of game and they are definite gaming experiences to be had by all gamers. What makes this game unique and super fun is that it is very easy to control 360 degree movements as a space ship unlike Modern games such as Star Wars rogue squadron. You are flying around the game immediately with little ease. I have not completed the remastered version yet but I highly recommend this game. It is as fast as Quake 1 and just as much fun to play. If you can link up with a friend or people online the multiplayer used to be one of the best ones just like descent games were too. I recommend turning off the biker volume as they have added random statements from the bikers that spoil the original feel of the game. Have fun it is worth it :@)

I didn't know this game existed, but I bought it right away because I'm a huge fan of Descent games.
I wasn't disappointed, pure 90s awesomeness and Nightdive did a good job remastering it.

i will write my review here, my parents got me this game months ago when it was on sale, this is my childhood game from nintendo 64, and i can see a huge change in this game of what night dive studios did to this game and there not the real original developers of this game, the real developers were probe entertainment and who knows what happened to them, this is a 90s game that was realesed in the year 1998, i was 6 years old playing this game in 2003, this is a remaster game of forsaken on pc that night dive studios brought back, it has a intro movie when you pop up the game that the nintendo version didn't have, it's also now online multiplayer which sucks cause i hate online and i don't play online, on nintendo 64 you can play multiplayer against the ai, but not on this pc version which is lame and boring, including there is time in it on certain maps which can be a pain in the rear end to play cause the nintendo 64 version didn't have that, which the nintendo 64 version is more fun than this version is today, this game is ruined, you end up having time in the game which messes up the gameplay cause it's easy to get lost in the game and then the time runs out and then game over, turok is better than this game as a remaster and i play it everyday, now all we need is that one nintendo 64 game i also liked and it was called extreme-g on the nintendo 64, nightdive needs to remaster that game also and battletanx and mischief makers and many more they should remaster as my childhood games, i am still having trouble in this year of trying to beat forsaken on my pc, darn developers adding time in the game script, pfft, forsaken was published by acclaim the turok team, look at me now i am 29 years old and soon will be 30 years old, it's not like i can work or drive anyway cause i have seizures and i am disabled, ever since 2009 when i had that seizure, generally my life sucks, i had mischief makers before anyone knew about that game, i was the only one who had that game and after decades passing as years nobody still nor heard of mischief makers before to this day, you play as a girl on mischief makers named marina liteyears, it's a grabbing game mixed with puzzles, shake shake, oh and don't forget biofreaks that was created by midway of who created mortal kombat, i wouldn't recommend this remaster version of forsaken to anyone, please don't waste your money on this game, i would rather play the nintendo 64 version than this one on pc, including the pc version of this game that has the music in it sucks, since it's remastered music that doesn't have great tunes like the nintendo 64 version has, the nintendo version has better music, i would rather the nintendo 64 version of music in this game than today in this remaster version, it just sucks they don't allow you to go to the options to change to the nintendo 64 version of music than todays music in this remaster cause the music in it today in 2022 sucks, i would prefer turok music in this game over the crappie music in this remaster, i thought it felt weird in this game that my character is driving a vehicle which it should have a engine sound to it that night dive should of added, everytime i press the gas i say it feels weird of how i go and it's just silent, no engine reving up or anything, vehicles should have engine sounds, not silence, i noticed there is is no option to change to third person view on this pc version of a game which is disappointing cause the nintendo 64 version had that, night dive studios could of added the change camera view to third person view in the options menu, not sure why they didn't, but instead, they took out the third person view mechanic in the video game of forsaken as a remaster on this pc version on steam here, i hate how stupid brutal hard this game is even on easy, it's not fun as hard as it is, this game is un-playable as to how hard it is, and i always hated the lives system in this old game, i am about to turn on the lives cheat so i can play this game, it's the modern day not the 90s, it's 2022, there is no such a thing as get good, so shut up, it's called being ganged up by two many enemies when your only just 1 person in the game, i beat the original but this version of forsaken, pfft a messed up game design i say!

This game was one of my all time favourites on the N64, loved the gameplay and especially when playing with friends. Sadly the remastered version is nothing like it, its missing lots of UI from the N64 version, no vehicle selection and unfortunately no bots for offline multiplayer. The worst thing about this version is that it's $22. It should be no more than $5 considering it's nothing like the N64 classic. I know it must be the original of the PC and PS1 game but from someone who had it on the N64 it's a big let down.

Man. I loved this game when I was a kid. Thing is, I used to play this on PS1 back before there was such a thing as dual analog sticks. I was surprised at how well this controls now, and with how much easier it feels. Also, it seems that some are confused about biker selection from the reviews. You can change characters in the options menu, but you have to unloclk new bikers by beating them in the campaign. Glad this got made.

Pretty good stuff! In lieu of a proper source port for Descent 3, this is a fair stand-in from the same era. Some of the puzzles in single-player are pretty obtuse, but the action is constant and challenging. Multiplayer appears to be listenservers only, which implies a *ton* of host advantage unless you're down the block or in the same room. I've never played Forsaken before now, but I come from a *lot* of playtime in other games from the genre -- namely Descent and its spiritual successor Overload. Solid port, no untoward issues in at least the front 1/3 of the campaign, multiplayer is sparse but simple. Support your local 6DoFs!

This game was my first and prefered game for long time, even today I was playing it with the Project X.
But the key binding is far from what it was, you don't have the slider toggle, you can't bind slide to the joystick sticks.
That Huge "AIM" in the middle is terrible.

Could be way better, I won't recommend it if you have played this and wanna play again now, as it is should, at least, be the same basic game, the controller freedon was amazing, now you are very restricted and it was one of the greats thing at the time, a 6x control movment.

Titanic_Toddler
Titanic_Toddler

Forsaken is like playing Quake in a sewer on the Moon.

The controls feel like too much at first, but as you learn them you begin weaving, hit-and-running, and strafing along walls with ease. Cramped spots fill with enemies and bullets as the excellent soundtrack pushes you forward. You weave through danger leading shots and dropping mines.

Levels open with you picking away at the resistance with your cheap slow-fire blaster, but as you make headway you find crazy energy weapons and chain guns, add-ons and power ups that give you a sense of progress as you begin to shred apart enemies and zip down spiraling tunnels.

Forsaken is about diving into the chaos. It is a game about isolation in a purely hostile world. It has a surprising variety of levels and missions, and builds a sort of lore around everything that adds to the ambience.

Forsaken is an awesome classic that asks the question, "What if the floor was the ceiling?" and now does so with x16 Antistropic Filtering.

I have to say I am extremely disappointed. Not with the game, but with the fact that this beautiful remaster just came out, supports multiplayer, and nobody is playing. This will be the best $20 ($18 as of the time of this review) you will spend all year.

The year was 1998, I was 11 years old. I find out about a new game called Forsaken, a game thats similar to the Decent games. As a Decent fan this caught my attention, so I downloaded the demo, played it and enjoyed it. Very shortly after that me and my mom were out and about one day, when we walked into the Virgin Megastore I darted to the PC game section, as I always did. I saw that they had a copy of Forsaken, and my mom being the awesome mom she is gladly bought it for me. On our drive home I opened up the box and looked through it's contents (this was back when PC games came in those big boxes and looking through whats inside of them was an adventure). One of the things I found in the box was a Forsaken themed calendar, which featured really sexy photos of the hot chick whose on the box cover art where she was nude though her privates were not seen in the shots. As a kid, I was very happy to see this and know that its now in my possession, but it was also kind of awkward as I was in the car with my mom, but I was being nonchalant about it. Anyhow, so I got home, installed the game and had lots of fun with it. Played through it multiple times, a few of my cousins got the game too so I would play multiplayer with them and other random people. The game had an awesome soundtrack too, so I would sometimes pop the CD in just to listen to the music (this was back when PC games often stored their soundtracks onto the CDs as audio tracks, so there could be high quality music that doesn't take up harddrive space, so you listen to it as if it were a music CD).

About 17 years later after the last time I touched the game, Forsaken Remastered comes out. Often when an old game gets released on Steam, they're lazily done (an old MS DOS game getting slapped onto DOSBOX, an old Windows game that doesn't get updated for modern times thus compatibility issues, etc.), so in order to get them to work properly you usually have to download and install source ports, community-made patches, etc. Thats not the case with classics re-released by Nightdive. Nightdive is a company thats known for helping update old games, adding some new things to them and so on then re-releasing them. And they delivered with Forsaken Remastered. Widescreen and high resolution support, support for high frame rates and high monitor refresh rates, some updates to the graphics (AA, AO, improved particle effects, etc.), Mac and Linux support, updated HUD, automap, updated multiplayer support with lobbies, controller support with wheel weapon selections, etc. Keep in mind that the source code for Forsaken was released publicly and then used by Nightdive to make this remaster, meaning that Forsaken Remastered isn't some reverse engineered nonsense thats trying to resemble the original game as closely as possible, instead its a true and genuine updated version of the original game. Whats also really cool is that it features levels from the N64 version of the game and never before seen levels (levels that were cut out of the original release? New levels that were recently made? I don't know). They did a great job with this this remaster, so I gladly bought it even though I still have my original copy of the game.

Thank you NIghtdive. It's a fantastic remaster. An old game with more action in a few hundred megabytes than most AAA games pushing 40+ gigs. Controls are excellent and the graphics are more than acceptable for its age. I was very surprised and pleased at how crisp the controls were. Mouse is a bit like cheating...time to pull out the hotas setup and get the real feel this game can offer.

Back in 1997 or 1998, I loved the original version of this game.

But this version is simply unplayable for me because it won't let me configure control. In this version, I can configure buttons but I CANNOT configure axis. This is a fatal problem for me.

I hope the developer can add the configuration functionality.

I have waited for years for a remaster for this game to be released, but unfortunately it does not allow the player to configure the controls to their content, myself being one of them.

Coming from the N64 release; my basic controls on the N64 controller were thumbstick to aim and C-buttons for movement. So naturally I would remap that configuration onto the Xbox 360 controller. However, the game automatically forces you to use the thumbsticks (LST for movement RST for aim), which is completely reversed for me. Now I understand it will not bother 99% of the players here and that's fine, I, too, use this configuration myself in other games, but for a remastered version, this is pathetic.
Better off getting Overload. At least that game allows Full Controller Support.

Oh, and the Steam overlay (Shift+Tab) does not work for me for some reason.

Ho-ly Cow. I spent hours apon hours playing local multiplayer Descent when I was a kid.
My old man ran a shop with a "training" room- 10 PCs, all networked.
Friday nights, I and my co-workers ordered pizza, and fragged each other for 2 hours, while cussing/high fiving.

I just got a little piece of my childhood back. FOR LINUX. And it runs at 4k at somewhere around a billion FPS.
I'm looking forward to finding other players in the online lobbies to play with/against.

If you remember and liked Descent, this is basically it.

I play all my 6DOF games with a 6DOF controller, including the original Forsaken on a CD. I'll recommend this remastered version if 6DOF controller (joystick/3DMouse) support is added back into the game.

Note: This game unfortunately does not have joystick support. Still fun as hell to play though

Forsaken was my favorite 6DOF title back in the 90s, and I was elated to see it finally was remastered, and even managed to include content from the N64 version which I grew up with, making it more complete than the past PC/PSX/N64 releases. It looks fantastic in full HD, you can finally adjust your FOV properly, and when you find opponents, the multiplayer is absolutely mental. Also, the addition of a much needed map system was also added, which makesthis game MUCH less frustrating to play, I remmeber losing my mind as a kid getting lost in some levels. Nightdive, you guys rock, love that you did this for your Turok remasters as well.

Though Descent is often considered the best franchise in the 6DoF genre, Forsaken is a very well done competitor that offered a more fast paced experience with it's own twist in level design, gameplay and difficulty. The post-apoclyptic cyberpunk theme is pulled off really well and makes the game just fat out cool. The music by The Swarm is excellent and fits the games theme perfectly and is really well done, you'll love it if you listen to The Prodigy. Though the game is pretty hard, it is rarely unfair and really tests your skill in controlling your craft, performing manuevers and properly engaging your enemies. Control with wither a gamepad or KBM is solid with options to fine tune your mouse/analog stick speed as well.

There is also a small but active scene of players online too, and as of November 2020 they play the game quite often, so if you wish to enjoy the insane multiplayer you wont have to worry about the game being a total ghost town.

This game brings back so many memories. A great remaster. And to the people who are mad about gamepad support: Please go download JoyToKey so you can play with whatever you want. Great re release/remaster, Night Dive brought it back and it works on modern systems. Listened to the community and added features such as choosing what style HuD to play with that being N64, Ps1/Original PC or the remastered version. Has all the original pc/ps1 levels with updated enemies from the N64 game which was different from the other 2. That being said this version of the game also includes the N64 exclusive levels as well putting the game over 30 levels to play. Only con is lack of multiplayer going on, have to organize that if you want to enjoy that part of the game. Just like the Turok 1-2 games Night Dive brought back this is a great addition to my collection. Highly recommened if your a fan of the original release mouse/kb works great for this game over the old N64 controller. Great place to start with a 6 degrees of freedom shooter.

I originally played the Nintendo 64 release back in the day, and to be perfectly honest, I didn't really care for it. But when I heard that there was a PC version, that was completely different, praised for being as great of a game as the Descent games were, and was available on Steam, I had to get it.

This game totally rocks. Much better than its Nintendo 64 counterpart. Gameplay is smooth, responsive, frenetic, varied, and fun.

However, being that it is a "Remastered" game, you expect some niceties to come along with the package over its initial release. There are. . .some, but overall it looks like the same game from 1998. It's got the much appreciated widescreen support, ambient occlusion, anti-aliasing, and some decent bloom, lighting, and particle effects, but nothing here is going to blow you away. Those textures haven't aged well, and the models are all rather low poly too.

But that's okay, because this game is so much fun. To be given an opportunity to play a game just over twenty years old, running with no hassle on a modern machine, is a treat.

Nightdive Studios, please bring back more Acclaim games!

Nobody is playing online (that was the only way to play this back in the day) because the "remaster" is really just the same game from 20years ago setup to run on modern hardware. Don't buy this unless you want to play against weak AI bots that you'll bore of after the first hour of playing.

This is 6DOF FPS, similar to Descent. Fast-paced, colorful, with decent music. Highly recommended! But probably not for the people who get sick easily when playing first-person shooters.
Tried to play this game in 98, but my PC was too slow and the game was too hard. This remastered edition fixes both problems and the result is actually very good!

Forsaken Remastered is the definitive way to play the forgotten Acclaim classic in modern times.

Here, Forsaken Remastered supports higher resolutions, a recreated HUD, anti-aliasing, new particle effects and other graphical effects, and support for more modern graphical APIs, making them work more easily with modern graphics cards. There aren't new models, textures, levels, music tracks or sound effects. Instead, Forsaken is a slightly new campaign that compiles content from the original PC version and the N64 port.

Forsaken isn't necessarily a must play, unless you were interested in it prior and missed out on it, are a fan of the 6DoF genre, or wanted to comeback to the game for whatever reason. However, it is a good entry to the genre with a post-apocalyptic setting, unique weapons, witty retorts from the player biker and relatively hectic gameplay. While all levels generally involve "getting to the end", how to get there will vary per level. This includes time limits, switch activations, objective destructions, item collections and retrievals and escort missions (at the escortee is invincible) There's alot more variety here than in many early FPS games like Doom and Quake. Think of the levels similar to Goldeneye 007 on the N64, where killing enemies isn't the only goal.

The best parts of Forsaken are the variety in the levels, the blasting combat and maneuvering, the exploration of the level and trying to find secrets which can contain weapons, ammo, powerups, gold, lives, or crystals which unlock more levels all the while a great drum and bass/techno soundtrack plays courtesy of The Swarm.

The worst parts of Forsaken are the sometimes confusing level designs or completion requirements causing you to get lost or run back and forth in a level for half an hour wondering "WHAT DID I MISS AND WHY CAN'T I FIND IT?!". Secrets can be annoying, as some require you to shoot it constantly until it opens or is destroyed, which wastes your limited ammo. Most of the maps take place in tight corridors and rooms with mostly grey or brown N64 era muddy textures, but with colored lighting. Enemies often unfairly spawn literally behind you when going into a new room while you are dealing with threats in front of you - sometimes in literal long hallways. They provide a rear view camera, but most players will ignore it in firefights. Its lame when a turret or group of enemies whittle down your shield, making you paranoid of EVERY room you enter.

Forsaken feels fairly easy at first, but it is secretly hard. I usually play First Person shooters on Hard difficulty (as I did here) but on Normal I eventually lost all my lives due to dying to very deadly traps (which, I'll add, have a lot of variety in this game) or getting cornered in an ambush after already losing shields/hull health from earlier points in the level. Also, their appears to be a robust set of Multiplayer modes with up to 16 players, but that playerbase is literally dead.

Forsaken Remastered is a great package of a late 90's classic. The base game had its minor issues, and it's easy to pass it by in a stored filled with countless games, but anybody that has enjoyed Descent and similar games should definitely be playing Forsaken Remastered.

OMG, this is an amazing game. Flashback from my college days when me and my friends spent HOURS playing this. NOW IT IS BETTER. Plays at 144HZ super smooth. Controls are spot on. I mean the graphics are dated but you will not notice it to much. Super fun to play. Very easy to play but a challenge to master this puppy. I played with a controller, originally; BUT with the mouse and keyboard this game really shines! Posses a definite challenge.

its basically Descent. if you havent played Decent go get it on steam and thank me later. Forsaken Remastered is an excellent game, fairly challenging but not too tough, Nightdive studios has done an amazing job on this one, for a game that ran well on the N64 back in the day but felt weird to play with the n64's trident controller now feels amazing with mouse and keyboard, movement is fast and i never feel like im getting dizzy thanks to the games superb job of auto orientation, Forsaken has lots of great weapons and great level design. when you die your weapons and gear drop where you die and you just respawn at a checkpoint and then you just go and pick up your lost items and continue the level from their, a system right out of Descent and i love it. this game is great and runs very well on modern systems, i recommend it for anyone who likes FPS games.

If you're a fan of Descent, you will probably enjoy Forsaken. The remastered graphics look great and the levels are fun to navigate, but the controls can take a little bit getting used to if you haven't played a game like this in a while. Bear in mind, there is no offline multiplayer with bots like there was in N64 version and the online multiplayer seems to be dead for the most part.

Overall, if you're mainly looking for a single player experience, Forsaken looks and plays great and I would recommend it, however, if you're mainly looking for some offline multiplayer matches with some bots like in older version of the game, you will need to look elsewhere.

Well I wish there was a neutral option besides just yes or no on recommending, as I feel that is where this game falls. It is easily worth a sale price, but I would not pay full price as it is. You would also have to like the SP mode, as that is all there is in this version. The MP is dead, and I can't even get people to friend me on steam to play. There are no bots like the original Forsaken I played on N64, and so the replayability is non-existent. There is no split-screen either, and so literally all there is is the SP campaign. I unfortunately tried it, and do not like the SP at all. When I played this game as a kid it was a lot of fun because of the split-screen and bots, and me and a friend use to play it all the time in that mode.

So I would recommend this game if you like SP, but I would not if you want any more than that. The developer lied as well, and stated shortly after release of this "remaster" they would patch in split-screen, but never have a year later now. Because the developer lied about this I wont recommend the game.

Nice additions to the original games outweigh some of the things changed that seemed somewhat arbitrary. Fleshmorph as well as a lot of normal enemies have been beneficially changed to give them more options and balance them nicely for combat. Exogen and the Geek have been changed in a manner that comes of as negative, particularly taking the fun out of the Geek fight in the capsized ship. The change in the way enemies react to mines is a mixed bag for me, classically the quantum mine was the most useful mine for combat as it had a massive AoE alongside damage to clear a room. Now, due to the way enemies seem to ignore mines, pine mines have become overpowered (allowing them to be used to keep a room safe nearly indefinitely). Purge mines and the Quantum mine are now more dangerous to use, I've blown myself up trying to trap shades with purges many times and quantum mines can be used to trade a life to kill a tricky bounty hunter. Overall, the joy and aesthetic of the original game has been preserved nicely with only two of the boss fights seemingly changed enough to raise questions regarding why.

Really a great remaster of a classic !

I first played Forsaken when i was a kid on nintendo 64 but for some reasons i never managed to finish it lol.
Time to repair this mistake and play this cool game again in this definitve version.
There's a lot of options to tweak and it plays really nicely with high refresh rate support, custom fov options, etc...
Forsaken is a good 6DOF game, far from being as good as Descent but still worth a shot.

Highly recommended.

The Crazy Gringo
The Crazy Gringo

I first bought Forsaken in 1998 and until Windows 10 I've been playing it on and off ever since, because it's frantic, non-stop action.
This remaster is a faithful rendition of the original which Nightdive have masterfully improved without taking anything away from the original game. It's not a remake, but a graphical and performance improvement, which I was only too happy to pay for, even though I still have the original CD.
It's challenging 360-degree mayhem which is guaranteed to make some feel queasy, but after a while, one soon gets used to the fluid movement.
If you like older games remastered, this is a must buy.

There's no other game like Forsaken! It requires that you navigate in six axis 3D space! It's fast, challenging and you have to develop special skills to be a good player. Worth every penny!

Interesting from a nostalgia point of view, and for the hilariously bad music--worth it on a deep sale for a few minutes of entertainment. Decent port, but the game and gameplay haven't aged well.

Recommended to play the game at the highest difficulty level Total Mayhem, which is extremely difficult and has a lot of replay value.

Remastered soundtrack and remixed levels, the breakbeat music is good for the movement of the game. Enemies fire their projectiles and scatter plasma in timed spread, making the side step movement to avoid getting hit feel like a dance.

It's kind of like a dancing combat game, where you need to maneuver around with 6 degrees of freedom to engage enemies while avoiding the plasma spread and missiles.

Scratches my itch for 6-DF shooters and comes with a heavy dose of PS1 nostalgia a la high hat techno and crappy voice acting. Optimization is great here, letting you run the game as retro as you want up up to max frames with all the works. The best bit is this games has 2x the content from the originals since they added the N64 levels to the PS1/PC levels.

Ive been a pretty hardcore fan since the n64 version came out. I had a feel for the weapons, characters, enemies and map designs. I spent alot of time playing this game when i was young and finding all the hidden secrets. This game is almost a perfect remaster, but there are a few concerning points when you really know the game, there are a few things that need to be updated to truly be a good game in my eyes;

-The beam laser is essentially useless, you have to hit an enemy so many times it pretty much renders the weapon useless, having power pods seems to only overheat the laser faster and not add any significant damage (the weapon is pretty much better without powerpods)
-The trojax has been so nerfed, its damage is very low even if you charge it to max and the charging time is still slow when you have full power, second weapon that really dissapoints.
-The shade enemies are literally unhittable, they dodge every attack, their AI can easily dodge solaris and scatter, and giving them a transpulse was an awful idea since they spam it.
-A lot of the characters dont really have different stats, most of the characters perform exactly the same, the only difference is the fast ones who die with 2 or 3 hits (Clark and Earl) and the tanks (Spectre and trucker), other than that, al other characters perform the same damagewise and in liquid.
-One of the biggest bummers compared to the n64 version is that you cant choose what song you want to hear during a level.
-Hunters suss gun projectiles (green) have such a weird hitbox.
-Tloloc temple has quite a few glitches with the traps, sometimes the lighting stays on in the inner temples traps and makes it impossible to get through, im assuming you tread on top of the cobra to not have to deal with the thunder, but either way it triggers and instantly kills you, also invulnerability has no effect against this specific trap, taking away at least 2 or 3 lives when playing.

Now the game isnt all bad, the controls have definitely improved, i play with an xbox controller and the handleing feels so well compared to the slow and sluggish n64. The graphics as well are very nice, bringing the reminiscent feeling of the old n64 and ps1 textures.

amazing remaster of a classic shooter. you can even choose the hud that you want to be displayed on your screen! Buy it tho, you wont regret it. the multiplayer is dead however, so dont go into the game expecting that.

I had this game back when it first came out. It was a blast then, and is today. The only issue I have is the lack of participation in multiplayer. If you want a good old school Descent-type 6DOF game, this is the one!

Wow. I know this is an old game, but these graphics (textures) are horrible. Very low res. So blurry in some cases that you would have to be blind to see that bad irl. I want to like it, but no.

I wish this release contained the N64 version as well, but as a remaster of the PC version it's fantastic. For anyone who doesn't know - the two games contain a completely different campaign but otherwise play the same. You can set the UI to match either version though, as well as the PSX.

A fun, fast Descent clone.
If you like shooting things from a hoverbike (or a spaceship), with freedom of movement in six axes, then Forsaken is your game.

This "remastered edition" provides only the capability of running the original game (with a few extra from the console versions) on modern pcs. You will find the same graphics and audio from 1998, just a bit polished.

It's a fun ride, while it lasts. Unfortunately it's a very simple game with a poor story (almost absent), but the gameplay is fun and fast paced enough to keep you interested while you battle robots and bosses through 21 stages (plus 4 bonus levels) with various weapons.

The levels are maze-like and interesting with nice visuals and some traps along the way. The enemies are the same throughout all the campaign, and they're not memorable. Just a couple of enemies are really annoying because they strafe really fast.

Can't talk about the multiplayer because at the moment it seems quite dead.

The "budget game" feeling is there, but shooting is solid and really fun and challenging.

I briefly played Forsaken years ago, but at the time I didn't know nothing about PC games. So recently, I finally completed it and really had a blast.

It's pretty like the Descent series (plus the techno music) but a little bit harder with a few boss battles. Also, there's riddles like in Quake games (shoot buttons/switches, follow paths, etc.) and the levels are fun. Oh, there's time limits in some levels and I admit it's unnerving; otherwise the rest is very worthy for any FPS fans.

Forsaken Remastered is a fun descent clone. It is a fun 3d corridor spaceship game. I remember playing this game on the Nintendo 64. Its was fun on the Nintendo 64 but the controller for did not feel well.
This version of the game lets you bind the controls anyway you want. It worked really well for me with the keyboard and mouse. I bound the keys so that w and s move forward and backward. A and d slide left and right. Q and e roll left and right. F and space for sliding up and down. Mouse for turning and pitching up and down. Mouse buttons for weapons.
I really like the graphics. The graphics look like the Nintendo 64 graphics with better lighting, anti-aliasing and resolution.
One of the things I really like about Forsaken is that its easier than descent. I really like descent but the controls and difficulty make a little less enjoyable than Forsaken.
I paid 4.99 for this game. I would have been happy paying a little more. It is a good game to have when you want a good shooter.

I've played this venerable game since 2000. It was actually the first game I ever played online. I liked single play mode a lot but the first time I loaded into a multiplayer match back on MPlayer. (yeah yeah I'm that old).. I was hooked for life. The fights were quick, brutal and some of the most fun I've had in 20 years online. The graphics are dated as can be these days, true. This is 1 of those games that just holds it's own forever. If you loved it then, ya still love it now. I just wish more people would pick it up so multiplayer would come back alive for this.

Pros:
+Very fun and challenging Descent clone.
+Excellent soundtrack.
+Tons of characters and levels to unlock.

Cons:
-Difficulty can be brutal.
-Camera and navigation can get disorienting.

Forsaken may be a clone of the PC classic Descent, but it's a damn good one that can stand on it's own. Making it's original debut back on PC, Playstation, and Nintendo 64, the maestro's of the remaster at Night Dive Studios have brought it back for a whole new generation to enjoy and rage at. There is A LOT of content to unlock and explore, and they even added the exclusive N64 levels. You can even change the HUD to resemble the classic PC, PS1, or N64 view. Like with the Turok remasters, there hasn't been much of a visual overhaul, so don't expect anything mind-blowing in the graphics department, but the sound and music is superb. The game does move very fluidly and full 360 degree movement is flawless, but it can get very disorienting in hectic firefights and navigating the enormous, labyrinthian levels. The rage in this game is real and it does not hold your hand, so casual gamers may be put off by the games punishing and brutal difficulty. But for anyone who is willing to put in the time, Forsaken is a very challenging and rewarding title.

Definitely a product of it's time with the late 90s art and techno soundtrack, but now with a sexy remaster. I always loved this game and own it on multiple plattforms, but the maze level design always confused the hell out of me. If you can handle maze structures, you're in for a hard and fast-paced 6DOF with lots of cool guns.

Time to finish the game: 10 hours

Yet another criminally underrated Nightdive remaster of a great Acclaim/Iguana game that deserves more attention.
Rough around the edges with understandable 90's design decisions here and there, but just a lot of fun as a retro 6DOF FPS.

My main issues were that it frequently threw a lot of enemies at you that tended to be rather tanky, and some of the levels were a bit cramped (at least some of the starting areas), meaning it became a pinball simulator as you kept bouncing around the walls trying to dodge enemy projectiles, and the game loves to spawn enemies behind and in front of you constantly. At the start there were a couple of time-pressured missions that stress me out just out of principle, even when I could see that I had a generous amount of time on many occasions.
Luckily, later levels (like the next 20 after the first 3 or 4) seem to have a lot less of those, not to mention, they open up more from the cramped ones at the start, and are visually a lot more varied and interesting.
One last tiny issue is that you can easily miss important text on the screen telling you what to do next as the game constantly throws enemies at you that pull your focus away from longer text prompts.

Still, after all of that above which might sound intimidatingly fundamental to ruin an experience, this game deserves credit for having juicy combat with satisfying effects and sounds, pretty levels with nice loops and lights and different textures and themes, coloured glows for projectiles that light up the area and send enemies ricocheting around the environment exploding, decent enemy variety, many different weapons with their own fun feel to them, and the flying is enjoyable, fast and fluid and the levels are great.

Despite above mentioned few cramped levels, they are well designed labyrinthine sprawling mazes that are satisfying to navigate in, with impressively nice varied lighting and animated details all around, varied mission structures in different locations (asteroids, space stations, abandoned subway stations, volcanic tunnels, labs, hangars, factories, even ancient temples) with neat different objectives to complete, and interactive elements in the environments.
There are a lot of missions, and your first time playing can make this game last for quite awhile. And though there's only so much one can do with mission structures in retro games like these - hunt keys, flip switches, destroy generators, collect items, kill bosses etc - They are still given their own flare and flow in each mission where it still feels nice to progress from one level to the other. They vary it up enough, add more and more different fun looking and challenging enemies, and the environments just look great with cool animated textures, nice varied lighting and overall satisfying level design.
The automap is very helpful which I understand was a Nightdive addition? Would have liked a stat UI element in it too listing how many secrets/gold/crystals you've so far found, with maybe the history of on-screen text that last told you what happened and what you need to do next. But not a dealbreaker not having those.

The story is a bit 90's barebones, a cheesy backdrop, but still, the flow of missions, the objectives, the progression is solid enough to motivate someone to keep pushing onwards.
You play as a bounty hunter (you can pick different "skins" as you collect bounties and unlock their drivers) and missions follow a logic of doing individual bounties, though sometimes the mission might be that you're trapped for instance.

The music is an absolute banger that almost reminds me of Command & Conquer levels of quality 90's game music that keeps you in the flow motivating you to push forward.
Wish it had a jukebox though, letting you have a playlist of the tunes instead of a repeating one per level. Still, the music is good so I'm not complaining too hard.

I think Nightdive updated the textures from the original? At least older youtube videos of Forsaken have a lot simpler, duller, more washed out textures than what I've seen in the game, the remaster's textures look nice, not too HD to clash with the original.
I highly suggest going for "nearest" filtering though, as linear will still make the textures too blurry, washed out, smeared, the pixely crunchy look is crispier and fits the game.
Though this remaster doesn't feature dynamic lighting/shadowing as far as I can tell, there's still really nice coloured baked lighting in moody dark levels, and as mentioned in combat how everything lights up is satisfying, the particle effects are great, wobbly water looks great as well. Ambient occlusion adds a lot to the environments, fits with the lowpoly geometry and textures.

The options menu has a lot of customizability, the flying controls can be tweaked a ton and it feels smooth and intuitive for someone who hasn't played a lot of 6DOF games.
As someone who loved Overload a lot but sadly couldn't run it on my potato laptop, this is a very close second best thing that fits my aesthetic sensibilities without too much of a hassle to make it function, runs super smooth, stable, looks good and has a lot of the staples you want out of a Descent/Overload companion.

Man, these late 90s UK-made dystopias are really something, I would expect to meet Keith Flint's ghost in one of these tunnels / tube slides, no shiny space crap here, everything is used and cool like a ripped jeans. Forsaken is kinda the dumb sexy brother of Descent, the levels aren't that complex, but so much fun to navigate. I also like that each one has several visual "landmarks" and distinct rooms, no getting lost in maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

And the N64 content is included!

I loved this game in the 1990s and never knew the n64 version was so different. I tried playing the n64 version on an emulator but much prefer the PC engine here, not to mention mouse and keyboard. Now many of the n64 levels have been integrated to run on this somewhat updated engine. This is not a complaint. It's all I needed to enjoy this fast fun game. It's always been my favourite 6DOF game. Some prefer descent and overload. I prefer the feeling of speed moving around in this one.

100% nostalgia review....

The remaster does a great job capturing the original. Forsaken was one of my first 3dfx games... along with GLQuake.... both hold a special place in my heart.

For Forsaken... the feel of the bright lighting and colours, combined with the squared off, but crisp and smooth graphics, is exactly that the 1st 3D accelerated games were all about.

To me, this game feels special because of that nostalgia trip for sure, but the game does hold up. Forsaken wasn't my favourite game ever at the time because the 6 degree movement was difficult and confusing. Now, playing it, the controls feel natural and moving around the 6 degrees is easy and natural.

I've only played a couple of sessions, but both have brought a smile to my face. So, very strange to have this game brought back as a modern remaster... I can't believe the devs thought this would ever be a big money making hit.... so I assume that they did it for the love and joy of the original. Thumbs up.

Great DESCENT game alike (you control small space fighter and blast enemies in underground complex), with enough differences that is still unique enjoyable game. And its hard to!

BETTER GRAPHICS

Game graphic are outdated for today standards, but don't worry, there is an TEXTURE UPSCALE MOD, that makes game graphic very sharp and enjoyable to play.

This game should be listed as its own sequel as it is not a true remaster of the game. I have played the original Nintendo 64 version; this game has its own level design but has simply stolen the music, sounds, and theme of the original. It is my understanding that a "remaster" means its the same game with updated visuals/graphics & general maintenance and i made a purchase expecting to relive that Nintendo feel.

One of the best multiplayer skirmish games ever made. Single player is a great experience, but that isn't exactly where this game really shines. The real challenge and fun happens when a few players go head to head, the more the better! The hoverbikes ride like a dream and it is a pleasure to see the stunning lighting effects again. I'm sure this game will go down in history as a perennial favorite and all I could wish for is a future version where hundreds of players can compete on a much larger scale.

It's a pretty cool Descent clone that was released on the n64 that sadly, i never got to play as a kid. except, instead of a small heavily armed fighter jet, you have a smaller heavily armed motorbike but fragile.

Incredibly fun and well designed 6DOF shooter that holds up surprisingly well today. Level and mission design can get repetitive but it's very fun as a whole. You've got to have a little bit of patience to explore every corner of the map in order to progress and find secrets. That said, the objectives and map traversal are quite intuitive and I never found them annoying or hard.
If you have never played a game like this (as was my case) it will take you a while to get used to the movement, but once you get the hang of it adds another layer of fun in the gameplay. Plays well on both K+M or controller. I also appreciate the addition of maps from other versions of the game, making this very much the definitive Forsaken experience.
Absolutely recommended.

Cool game for something that came out in the late 90s

One nitpick though is how stupid it is to unlock/find certain secrets since the game never specifies or hints the secrets. The rules to finding said secrets are constantly broken and inconsistent each level and it's quite annoying.

Achievement hunters, YOU WILL NEED A GUIDE

For example, the first level, to unlock the 2nd secret you need to avoid shooting a panel but the game never specifies this nor is it hinted, you'd only know this if you followed a guide and it plays very much like this till the end of the game.

Just ditch Direct x, put it on the Vulkan or Open GL api and dive into some mind blowing 90s action while fantasizing about the cover lady provides some much-needed "relief" after levels. No she is not Kate Winslet. Its Donna something.

Never really liked this game on N64 but valve made it work on PC, the M/K controls are great and its a fun drone simulator. Really wish nightdive would remaster the lucasarts games cause lucasarts does a piss poor job of porting their old games.
