Game is abandoned by the Devs.
It's dead and buried but the devs won't remove it from the Steam store in case some gullible person decides to purchase it.
Even if it was free, you would still be getting ripped off so save your money, put this on your ignore list, and look for an actual game.

This game is a 'vertical slice' of a canceled mmorpg called The Repopulation. At the time, iirc the developers were going bankrupt and sold therepopulation which then got chopped into this fucking mess. Both games are absolute garbage and you really shouldn't bother.

Sadly, even at its peak, The Repopulation only had around 450 steam users. [including myself]. I feel scammed. Even years later as I write this and look back into my old backlog of video games.

Spent WAAAY too much time wandering around an empty patch of land looking for anything interesting. Made a simple base. Logged out. THE END. The dev's supposedly delayed work on this to work on another project. Oh really? WHAT project? The Repopulation? HA! And where is that game now?

I received this free, as one of many people who has been supporting Repopulation for a long while. During a time Repopulation was put on hold, this was given to us for free to hold us until the game was back on track with development.

This is such a cookie cutter survival builder game with zero going for it. As a person who has mostly games that fit in this genre or colony simulators in his library, I can say this is one of the worst this genre has to offer with thousands upon thousands of hours of experience in the genre. I seen that there was a sale for like a buck before. If you are going to spend money on this game, that's all I'd suggest paying for it. I did not enjoy it at all and I got it for free. I personally would not pay anything for this game and would not own it if it was not given to me for free.

Warning: Do not buy, abandoned game.

Fragmented is an abandoned Early Access survival game set in a sci-fi setting on an alien planet where you must build structures and survive alien monsters.

While it had every chance of some success, the developers pulled the pin, took what was left of the money, and ran.

In typical character, Valve left the game on the Steam store anyway, because consumers come last.

I just got it for cheap. I dont regret it, but I do not recommend it. Its like a play on the survival games we know. It has its own originality suchg as: Tameing wild aminals, Punching trees(hurts you), Punching rocks(Hurts more). Pre-build or Selfmade bases, In range crafting addons. Seems like a take on the genre like Space/Medi Engineers, ARK, Rust, Salt, Starmade, Starforge, Empyrion, and the like (if you have one of these dont bother). While on the subject of Starforge, seems like the devs did the same they had a good idea, worked at it got bored went on to something else. Good game ONLY for a cheap deal if you dont know what to spend your spare change on. Only SP review. Definately needs some optimizations!

As I remember, this game was created due to a legal battle between the developers working on Repopulation, and one guy thought he could do the game better justice in the Unreal Engine using a Survival system rather than the Hero Engine and modeling it after SWG. The result is this horrid mess of woes. I have bought and played a lot of bad game ideas and enjoyed them. I did not enjoy this piece of trash. Do Not Buy.

Dead game, another abuse of the early access cash-grab and run. It's pathetic that these turds are not held accountable for this. Many developers have done this. It's too bad because they are deeply hurting the early access community. I hope they enjoy their money, won't be making any more from myself and many, many others.

Glaktic

This was originally "The Repopulation." It was an MMO that was supposed to be similar to old school Star Wars Galaxies. To be honest, they were pretty close to it too. For some reason the devs abandoned that idea and turned it into this crazy survival game inspired by, Rust? Gameplay similar to other some of the other games that tried that model and failed. SO then, they abandoned development on this game to? This is not a product, and it's not a game either. This is something that is still on Steam in hopes that you will spend at least some kind of currency on it. Though, I can't explain why. It's not like these guys are game developers anymore, where is this money going? I don't understand. I hope theyre not funding another game. These guys shouldn't be making games anymore. So definitely don't give them your money,

The game had a TON of potential, but unfortunately games like this, with no ability to maintain official servers, provide regular updates and further enhance the experience with DLC, the game is bound to die.

I hope to see more games like this in the future, offering a diverse experience out of the gate. Unfortunately encouraging sales of their game at a point where the game's official servers are dead, seems like death knells to me.

At this stage I would not recommend purchasing this game.
That's not saying it wasn't a good game when it was active.

Unfortunately by the time I purchased it and attempted to play, servers in the US were already more or less abandoned.

The developers have stopped support/development a long time ago. Stormy development history. Active servers reduced to one. Developers moved on. Price reduced to sell. Active population is nothing. Regardless of how pretty the game looks I would advise against purchasing it as it's future is very uncertain and your investment is most likely going to be poor value. Game may have had potential at one time but with developers walking away, the game will never see that potential.

I originally (positive) supported the developers on 'The (original) Repopulation' and 'Fragmented' but for various reasons it has ended up a failed project that the developers have walked away from and left the customers hanging. What is the real blame is anyone's guess as it is hard to work out fact from fiction. But Fragmented is effectively dead now.

Well, the game is supposed to work on Linux, and that's a no-go. Never got a chance to even try it. Fragmented is a good name for this, as that's what the development has been. Hard pass on this one, even at 85% cost, even at they would pay me cost. Just sad, all around. For those that say "well it's Linux", I paid, it didn't deliver. I have run everything from TES Arena to Doom on different flavors of not-microsoft, to World of Warcraft and SWG on Linux, so since the early 90's. I know my way around it by now, is all I'm saying.

Preliminary Review -

This is actually a really good game. (Yep, not joking),

Why?.. Cause even though the combat is 'jank' and cheesy, the models fruity and cheesy looking, the skill and construction trees are somewhat small and strange compared to many survival games out there,

the world small and not that fleshed out, etc etc,

it does one thing amazingly well --

it's an incredibly relaxing game (!!)

Seriously, the music, the natural yet semi-dreamlike landscape, the near-perfect harvesting sounds,

the well honed xp gain-rate, cool easy to understand skills and recipes on leveling up..

This game isn't about mass action, deep pvp, or creating some sort of 'power-house', what makes this game amazing (if you're looking for this sort of stuff) is it's incredibly relaxing and 'fun' in the sense of accomplishment and just having something to peacefully 'grind' away at.

(Note - the 'trick' in all this, what the review is about, is 'solo' (offline) mode -- )

Put another way, this is the perfect (type of) game for listening to podcasts, having a video on the side, play on and off during the day as you do stuff, sort of thing.

I found some esoteric sites (Occult of Personality and the 'Thoth-Hermes podcast' ), with talks and interviews, around the same time I found this game, they are a perfect fit.

It's also great to play before bed when you need to wind-down without stressing out, again ideally while listening to a relaxing podcast.

I feel bad for the devs that such a peaceful relaxing game will be compared to the other 'typical' survival games, cause of course it won't match up to that,

but in the reviews doing so most people won't realize what an amazingly great game this is to play to just relax and wind down with.

If you need something to relax and listen to talks/interviews/videos with, this is it.

Get it while it lasts it's very rare to find games like this nowadays.

I hate to be the downer but dont bother. The game needs much work, from gltiches to being polished, its about as alpha as you can get. It seemed amuzing and fun but reminds me of a low end Ark rip off a tad, the crafting menu and way you level up was interesting but the game as it is just isnt polished enough for me to want to play it, plus the bugs are really annoying. Only 4 servers available. 2 pve and 2 pvp, one drop on death the other is not. All servers were empty and are US east servers, aside form 1 person on a pvp who i assume was testing it like i was.
Really great concept and world but just not enough to really get fully into it. The one bug that angered me was waiting for my weapon to show its icon so i could move it to my hot bar....... yeah....
I wish this game was a bit further since it could be something cool to play, but its just not there at the moment.

Going for the kill or walk away?

It started out pretty nice, untill I began with inventory management... Every item I clicked, dissappeared or was unclickable. So it has something to do with the resolution maybe? So I fiddled with those... Well, the entire game is now being goofy...

So it felt like I was playing RUST again, hitting that damn stone over and over getting it's resources, hitting that tree, foraging those bushes, killing animals for it's flesh and hide... That system is great, nothing bad to say about that.
Then there is food decay, tool durability, clothing, temperature, hunger and thirst. Especially that temperature system, it works like a charm. The torch or campfire has influence on your body heat. Dip in the water, you cool off like a popstickle on vacation at Antartica. The clothing works on body heat too, so as the biome does.
According the map, we are on an Island with a desert (warm biome), a place where there is snow (cold biome) and anything between that is temperate. So if I want to go to where it is cold, I need to bring with me a torch and have warm clothings on me.
Then there is this leveling up system on everything you do, which gives you a certain amount of points which you can utilize as in skills. Some of those skills open up abilities or better said: more crafting possibilities. Yeppers, a solid sum of mechanics that works pretty good.

It was starting to get dark, so I thought "hey, let's build myself a base", needed a lot of fibers and wood for sure. The sun went under, I looked around and didn't see bad stuff spawning and I thought again "hmm, it's that kind of a game huh" and kept axing that tree. Untill I heard a noise, a noise I don't wanna hear in my house when I am alone... It was coming closer, so I turned around and from the high grass a strange dude appeared, starting hammering on my head and I swung my axe from left and right, but this dude was so strong... Yep, I died. Luckily that Drop Pod where you get spawned in the game, is located fairly in the middle of the map and even so, it would not matter, because you keep your inventory after death anyways.

Didn't came far, only played for 1 hour, untill the goofyness with the inventory happened, it spread like a virus to the menu screens and everything just went into one goofparty. Like the game plays seriously, the flora, the fauna, no Mickey Mouse looking from a corner... But I felt like an angried Donald Duck, when all this goofyness started to happen. So I restarted the game, still being goofy? No, but the resolution wasn't correct, so I fixed that... Well, appearantly the party guests weren't all gone and the whole goofy festivity started all over again.

Like for now, it ain't bad. Haven't spend hours and hours in this game. No waste, just one hour of my life. And for what I saw, it's a good game. Too bad for the goofyness. On that behalf, I say NO to the game.
Besides, there are games like this all over the place already like CONAN and ARK for example. The only difference here is, Fragmented runs like a charm on my computer and has some nice features the other games are lacking BIG TIME! Take this game as a lesson!

- AMD Ryzen 3 2200G @ 3.5Ghz
- 8GB RAM
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 2GB Videocard
- Windows 10 Pro

Verdict: The goofyness turned my fire down, otherwise I would still be playing this surprising game (maybe something to do with compatibility? Too bad for this moment, but I do not recommend this game.

I really don't get this game.. I feel like this should have been more of a straight-forward shooter rather than an open world survival. At the same time, I think that the game wants to be both.
Heck, it even starts out pretty much the same as ARK and 7D2D; wake up, grab some bushes, hit some trees, craft a makeshift weapon and kill some creatures. Been there done that. Except, ARK and 7D2D does this a whole lot better, and this schizofrenic Halo-survival wannabe just doesn't have what it takes.

In retrospect, I guess this game really is fragmented..

Been around for along time. Crafting quite easy. Resources spawn pretty quickly. Top and bottom of map is were the higher level beast are. This game could have progressed into another Empyrion type game but I guess the DEVS dropped it. And of course if you are lvl 10 can't take on a lvl 35 creature. Very relaxing survival game. Many creatures to skin to get improved armor. Loads quite easily, Plan to play just to get the improved armor.

I got an email that this game was on sale and it got me to the stage of me buying this game for 1 euro and 7 cents.
Downloaded, tried the game out and it's quite nice. Feels like a bit of Ark and some other games in one.
Unfortunately the game has been abandoned due the reviews and threads on the forum and there is no active player-base.
Game itself has a huge amount of potential, it's smooth, nice and the graphics/quality is pretty dope.
But i will have to make a negative review because there is no development anymore, no players, the huge amount of assets and it just feels unplayable in a way.. Even though the game is playable.

I just want to post a quick review to offset some of the negative reviews related to the game being 'complete'. Many people are buying the game when it's on sale for a couple dollars and then rating it poorly. That's not fair at all. There's also a lot of negative history around the development; but that too is no longer relevant to the game as it exists today.

The game is fully playable. It is a good survival game with noticeably limited content. No content new is not being created which would make the game better, but it still much better than many, many Steam games at the same price. Fragmented can still provide a few hours of fun, more so if a few friends all pick it up at the same time. SO if you like survival games and want to try something new, pick this up when it's on sale. Just don't expect to find a large community there to play with you. It's a neat vision of a game that could have been much better.

Mizar
Mizar

The game is more fun and playable then hundreds of games in my steam library that cost a lot more. Over half of my favorite games are not going to see further development, but no one calls them abandoned. A truly abandoned game is totally unplayable because it requires online servers to play and those servers have been shutdown and there are no alternatives and/or the publisher of the game sues everyone who attempts to run servers. Or alternatively a game is abandoned in development with so many bugs to render the game unplayable, that is also not true with this game, the single bug I found related to when you died and the precise means to respawn, hardly a game breaking bug. I have multiple games from major publishers who have actively killed the games I bought from them. I see no evidence of that here and small developers don’t have the deep pockets that big developers have. Instead big developers have deep pockets to actively kill any game that is not producing enough new money for them, were as small developers can’t do that to their player base. This game works as a single player game and with friends, there are even servers up, unlike so many pure multiplayer games in my steam library that each cost far more then this game. And I found one hour in this game more fun then five minutes in many steam games I foolishly purchased for more money based on good reviews and didn’t have time to play before the refund period expired.

For less than a jumbo candy bar you can buy this game with only a bit more than seven hours of play time I can definitely recommend it, although it doesn't have one of the better build systems for a survival game it still is enjoyable, also if the grind is a bit much for some players you can edit the resource yield, exp multipliers and other settings to tailor the game play to your liking, have not tried any of the current servers but the hosting works flawlessly my friend and I played together with out any issues and have enjoyed it so far and for a 1.19 right now you really can't lose

Aeyfurr
Aeyfurr

Fragmented has a good setting? I guess that's something? but it's totally lacking content, concept and anything that gives motivation for the player to do anything. There is no story, no quests, no NPC civilization, absolutely nothing to explore... which leaves me with a "is this all there is?" feeling.

UI needs a lot of improvement to make it easier and faster to use.
Pre-designed structures that the player can build are good, snap-together structure pieces suck (feels a bit like putting together a puzzle in Wonderland where all the pieces are different sizes and don't fit together).
The only "progress" the player can actually make is upgrading their tools/armor and upgrading the only 5 workbenches that exist in the game and even then, the upgraded versions don't look any different and give crappy bonuses.
Exploration is kinda fun for a little bit? Like maybe 2 or 3 hours of exploration time is cool, but again it quickly leaves me with that "is this all there is?" feeling. Without anything better in sight for late game experience, what's the point?
There are a few different creature types to go out and fight but they all use the same 6 creature models, only difference is color and their name.
Combat gets boring real fast; it's way too simple.
Resource gathering is a pain in the ass. Resource nodes should be a lot more specific (ie calibrite nodes, limestone nodes, Rhyolite nodes, etc etc) instead of a random chance from ANY stone. Trees and plants could use a similar update too.
Oh, did I mention playing online is dead? NO ONE PLAYS ONLINE. I can see the game being ever so slightly more enjoyable if PvP is the only thing a player lives for. But there's no one and nothing.
If I were to zoom out and take a look at the world, I would see a flat planet with nothing to discover or explore, simple and primitive "copy/paste" creatures that pose no challenge, and absolutely nothing to keep players engaged with anything. The only way I was able to put in 13 hours was by manually modifying the rulesets to make achievement grabbing more fun. But now I'm done, I can't do it anymore.

I feel awful for the players who invested in this. Sounds like they got fucking screwed hard. Maybe Fragmented could have become something better? But it's a dead game now and games rarely come back from that kind of death. Don't buy this game unless it's above 80% off and you have a gamer group with nothing better to do...
Actually, it might just make your boredom worse, idk.

THE CONTROLS ARE TERRIBLE lol but that being said there seems to be a lot to do, it seems like its tried to copy off ark but failed, i think if it wasent abandoned they could have turned it into something great, but its far from a rubbish game becauae its actually quite godd once you can get used to the terrible controls which are so clunky, this isnt my first time i played this game either, i just recently bought it on steam because i thought they may have changed it, but nope, but there is still a fair bit to do on the game, ive played much worse, i hope another team picks this up one day and turns it into something better because theres a basis for every great game but just falls apart from terrible mechanics and clunky movements and horrible controls because of the controls dont work, they have tried to copy off ark too but its playable and you will have some fun surviving as its like any survival game that copies off ark, way more stable than ark too but graphics arent great but also not terrible either, ill only recommend this while its on sale as i picked it up for the price of a chocolate bar, so 100% worth £1, you can build bases and technology and fight alien animals, so get it while its on sale, you cant be dissapointed, its better than atlas as i can play this and atlas just crashes way too often and my pc is a beast, so yea get it 6/10

This game was clearly designed to be a quick cash grab by the Devs, But it obviously failed and the gamers are triumphant once again. Now they get like 2$ off us to buy the game, AND NO MORE! The online capabilities have been removed, which i think is perfect for a survival game. And the cash grab elements are gone, leaving a highly playable game, that works offline, Singleplayer, and as usual, should we choose to, we can create our own server, and play multiplayer to our hearts content. The Devs have been removed from the loop for being greedy. And so they should. Overall a 4 star game that is just waiting for some TLC from the gaming community.

OK so ill give 2 points of view for this game, ill start by saying over all the game is pretty good

view point one, the honest truth, the game is early and needs work. that is simple and clear, the fact that it is only 10 bucks and when i bought it only like 1.50 makes it easier to stomach lol. over all i can see where the game is headed and this game actually does a few things better then other survival games that i personally like alot, again the game is just very early on and needs a few more updates.

view point 2, getting your moneys worth or getting it while its cheap, as i said before i got this game when it was like 1.50 so if they keep updating this game and working on it i can see this game being super super fun and great. but that day is not today lol.

somethings that i like about the game is, it has controller support which i love(not steam overlay support, actual native support in the game) the game is both 1st and 3rd person, i personally like playing in 3rd person more. simple crafting and it doesnt take tons of resources to make things.

somethings i dont like, the hot bar should be a quick menu when using a controller (something like what conan exiles with its controller support and quick bar) also change the UI, there are like 5 icons on the top right of the screen but they are so small you dont totally notice them changing till its to late lol. maybe make the normal ones like health/food/water a simple bar along the top or bottom of the screen and the others can pop up on screen when they become relevant.

all and all, id say buy this game while its cheap and sit back and let it update and get patched then later jump in and enjoy

This game is easily one of the most buggy, glitchy games I have ever played. However, it COULD have potential but has a ways to go. Some of the mechanics just don't really make much sense, menus glitch out and make it near impossible to get items, you randomly just toss items and not realize it. Having a 6 slot footlocker is atrocious for early game grinding. If this is the kind of game that you are looking for, just buy ARK. As rough as that game can be at times, it still allows a little more progression and variety. I am still running through the game but, I find myself getting bored of it quite quickly.
