Vintage chocolate chip cookies

Ingredients
150g salted butter, softened
80g light brown muscovado sugar
80g granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 large egg
225g plain flour
½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
¼ tsp salt
200g plain chocolate chips or chunks
Method
STEP 1
Heat the oven to 190C/fan170C/gas 5 and line two baking sheets with non-stick baking paper.

STEP 2
Put 150g softened salted butter, 80g light brown muscovado sugar and 80g granulated sugar into a bowl and beat until creamy.

STEP 3
Beat in 2 tsp vanilla extract and 1 large egg.

STEP 4
Sift 225g plain flour, ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda and ¼ tsp salt into the bowl and mix it in with a wooden spoon.

STEP 5
Add 200g plain chocolate chips or chunks and stir well.

STEP 6
Use a teaspoon to make small scoops of the mixture, spacing them well apart on the baking trays. This mixture should make about 30 cookies.

STEP 7
Bake for 8–10 mins until they are light brown on the edges and still slightly soft in the centre if you press them.

STEP 8
Leave on the tray for a couple of mins to set and then lift onto a cooling rack.

RECIPE TIPS
FREEZING THE BISCUITS
If you’ve frozen the biscuits, take them out and arrange them on a lined baking sheet. Once defrosted, pop them in a medium oven 190C/170 fan/gas mark 5 and heat for 2-3 mins to crisp up. Don’t leave them too long or they’ll dry out.
STORING DOUGH
You can keep the uncooked dough in a sealed container in the fridge for up to two weeks. Simply take some out, dollop on a lined baking tray and allow to come up to room temperature for 5 mins before baking

I should have known I wouldn't enjoy this given how the previous game ended. chopin becomes some kind of weird douche with a keytar at the end of the first game, and then you spend this game running around playing a lot of music that sounds good but some pairings don't make sense, like pairing an abba sounding song with a kiss themed band, cause that makes sense, I saw "Hiss" and was obviously psyched to play a kiss themed song, turns out to be abba and I knew I wasn't gonna enjoy this. baring in mind I skipped every god damn cutscene cause I could not stand them this time around, I watched the first one, realised this was how they were gonna do the rest of them and decided forget it I'll just skip through everything. and honestly I feel like I dodged a bullet with that decision given how much I disliked the rest of the game. Now to explain how impossible it is to play this on pc, so I played the last game with my mouse and had a generally good time the story was dumb and the ending fairly awful, but the music was good , this time you cannot play with a mouse no matter how good you are with one. basically from the onset you are beset with a swarm of notes that you will miss most of, and as you go further it obviously gets harder and more likely you will get a lower score. Keyboard is no better you're undoubtedly off tempo with keyboard, like I changed up the keybindings for keyboard and, even though I followed the tempo i still missed almost every note. So yeah controls are awful seriously just play this with touch input. there is a point where I almost quit because a German dancing robot hit me with a million simultaneous notes at once, like how do you hit all those notes at once? do i just slam my hand all over the keyboard and hope for the best?
Maybe I should have headbutt my monitor for best results.

TLDR:

Aside from some decent music, this game is a definite pass.

Play the previous title in the series, way more fun and you get to play as a proper respected Chopin, not some swaglord douchebag who by the end of the game goes super saiyan for some ridiculous reason.

If you absolutely must get this game wait for a sale, do NOT buy at full price it's not worth it.

Just as loopy as the first game, if not loopier. I do wish that some kind of track list was released that would show which of Chopin's compositions (if any) were used in the arrangements with the pop songs, that would be neat.

Lov3toPlay
Lov3toPlay

This second game in the instalment is a dissapointment. The developers should have continued with the idea of Chopin battles using his 'remixed' original works, as there countless pieces to choose from. The music score is indifferent and boring. The game is filled with un-thought of characters and the plot has no direction or 'suprise' factor. I highly recommend playing the original but this second game gets lost amongs hundreds of other mediocre titles currently on sale in the gaming market.

Hey everyone and this is my review about the game!

This is Fast button timing mashing rythm game.

Interface/Menu/Settings

There is no Options.
There is a difficulty settings.
You are able to change the controls - which i high recommend. But even then it wouldnt make a difference.
You can not play this with a xbox controller.
Main menu Music is okay.

About the game.

The game has Cartoonish/drawing video animations.
You can turn on the subtitles by clicking on the video animation.
The game is fully voiced over.
There are 8 levels and you are able to get 1 to 3 Stars on each level. AND EACH DIFFICULTY.

Other things.

There was a guy with 3 dogs, He named his 3 dogs after 3 different kind of food.

Game even tries to distract you.. Like the game isn't HARD ENOUGH.

I think the controls in the game are the one who sort of ruined this game. Mash button games does not work on a keyboard. Good luck pressing those buttons on the exact moment why it is not even going slowly. You will get confused.
The game is unplayable with a keyboard. (i was playing on normal and on level 1)
You even get moments that you have to press 4 BUTTONS AT ONCE.

The game is not about skill. You can't get any skill if the game isn't working.

-------------------

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS GAME AT ALL! The idea was nice but the game just doesn't work. It just doesn't. For your own sanity. Do not get this game. Game is TOO AND TOO DIFFICULT AND FRUSTATING.

I Give this game a 2/10

While it has it's flaws, Frederic: Evil Strikes Back is a good rythem game, the controls are simple but you'll defidently want to rebind the controls. The game itself is rather short, it can be beating in a single run in less than 2 hours. Not worth the full price, but defidently get it when it's on sale.

Purmble

When I got this game I expected something like Dance Dance Revolution or Deemo..... My mistake... This game's story makes no sense at all and it's really REALLY corny. The controls are awkward and personally I don't like how the whole thing works.... In other words, don't get this game full price, if anything get it while it's on sale.

On the bright side I only spent 99 cents!

First all: Dear developers, pleeeaaaaseeeee, do not do such achievement as "Impossibru" again, please))

And, yes, do continue games about Frederic. At the moment it's the best music game I've played.

There is everything in this game:
- Great storyline - fabulous composer Chopin was involved into an adventure worth playing;
- Music - composers have done really, really GREAT job here - different styles, different beats, but all are worth listening.
- Gameplay - the possibility to change key settings had come in handy, this shows attention to the details;
- Humor - another flat plus to this game. Everything is soooo pathos and epic! I had a lot of pleasure to recognize real persons in game characters. And, I must admit (there is a spoiler) - the scene "I must go on a board, mustn't I?" and hand waving - will always work!!

I had a lot of hours of fun and fascinating music.
Thank you, Frederic!

The visual presentation of this game makes it very awkward to play. I don't know how to explain it better than that - but I'm perfectly capable of typing - hitting keys on a keyboard - and yet I couldn't get a feel for hitting them in this game. I like Guitar Hero, I like Typing of the Dead, I'd like to like this, but I pretty much just can't play it.

Gabriel
Gabriel

it´s like guitar hero, too hard on the kb though. i can only asign letter keys, why?
and it doesnt recognise my generic usb controler, would be much better if it did.

but all in all, it´s worth to buy on sale. i got both game at 90% off, so I recomend it at that price, especialy if you have an original controler.

obs. its hard but not impossible on Kb, the default buttons are not the best way because you can only use one hand, i can´t even type very well let alone play piano hero having to press 7 diferent keys in sync, i kept mistaking the keys.
so here´s how i set it up, white keys Z X C V, black keys I O P, this way i can use both hands, a little awkwardly but way better than trying to master the game with one hand. if you can do that go earn money playing a real paino

So the game is okay. I enjoyed it mostly.

The visuals were weird sometimes but acceptable. The same style of the last game but more odd. I still like most of it.

The music is great. Not as amazing as the last game but enough good tracks to justify the whole sound track. Some music was out of place to certain fights. But my favorites have to be the Russian one and the final boss.

Many gripe about this being a touch screen game and yes, it was meant to be that. I personally found enjoyment in just using the mouse and stayed away from using the keyboard unless the song needs me to hit 2 notes at one time.

In the end I recommend this game on sale. $8 is ok but I finished the game in 1.5 Hours. So maybe at least 50% off.

Yiasmat

This review is aimed at rhythm-game fans like myself. Please have that in mind while i describe the game as "way too easy" and such.

First off i have to say, that i just skipped through every cutscene in the game. They just feel super cheasy but take a lot of time to sit through. I think the development time spent on them might have better been used for improving the core gameplay.
Speaking of which, what does it offer?

Well, sadly not that much. The game gives you 7 keys to work with, 4 in the lower row and 3 in the upper row (as black notes), which is not enough. 4 keys in the lower row mean, that you can´t simulate chords propperly, which i felt was missing from this game. Having 5 keys instead to play chords wouldn´t make a huge difference tho, as there is no second hand to accompany it.
With only one hand, the game is just way too easy. It took me 3 levels to get used to the pattern and after that, i felt that there really wasn´t anything to improve on.
Thats even more troubling as the game lacks the courage to put notes onto the playfield. Instead of using fewer notes for the easier difficulties and then gradually increasing the notes in the higher ones, all difficulties have the same set of notes.
There were so many times that i felt they could have easily tripled the number of notes to make me keep wanting to play the game and improve, to make meactually feel like really playing the song...

that said, there are some good notes here. The music is really cool and the overall design feels very smooth. Tho what i took from this game was starting on the lowest difficulty to get used to the gameplay, finding it too easy, going into a higher difficulty and then figure out that i´ve basically seen it all. Now i had fun in this game for a few minutes, so if you´re really bored just go for it, but there are better, free games out there with way more content that i to this day didn´t get tired of.

So yeah, even tho i liked the game, i can´t recommend it...

In case you're not familiar with Frederic yet, you'd better start from the beginning. There's also a 'Director's Cut' version, but it's not that better (and original game is cheaper anyway).

I admit, I've been sceptical about the game, because I always am about the sequels and also because I've seen some negative reviews, but I totally recommend this one.

+++ It's still FUN!
+++ the MUSIC. It's different now. Frederic no longer plays his own sonates and concerts, but has to perform the variations of the more recent music instead. Most of the tracks have recognizable 'prototypes'. Final boss track just ROCKS.
++ the story is still there, somewhat even more hilarious compared to F:RoM
++ the gameplay is more varied now (e.g. pairs of notes, coloured notes)
+ the note patterns seem more logical and less chaotic. I think it's a bit easier than RoM, though some have it vice versa.
+ the characters are all good (and hilarious too)
+ cinematics are as good as in F:RoM (sometimes even better)

- Those who had prefered mouse for the first game are very likely to be annoyed. Some things don't go well with clicking (like hitting double notes or playing some sequences). But controls had never been the strongest point for the 'Frederics'.

I am really surprised by this game.. starting out I was not expecting much but then the game really got to me.
The core gameplay isn't the only thing that makes this game so good. This game has its own personality which is really unique and immersive. Although this game isn't for everyone, I recommend it to those who enjoy rhythm and look deeper into the story and the message of the game as there is one strong lesson to be learned. I also need to commend the music in this game, as it is completely different to the music that I listen to, yet I really enjoyed it. Awesome game!

This game is where the series jumps the shark. Aside from all the other reviewers mentioning the songs not being Chopin songs remastered, which didn't bother me at all, I think this game is far worse than the first. The art is very samey everywhere, Chopin acts like a rock star, there are memes all over the place, and worst of all they made it impossible to play the game with a mouse alone. Big mistake. It's not my preferred method to play these games with the keyboard and they force you to if you want to keep your combo up, or play the game on anything but easy mode. Still, when it goes on sale, pick up the 2 pack of games for this one's soundtrack alone, as I think there are a few good standouts worth listening to outside of the game itself.

If you liked the previous game you are going to like this one. This sequel brings again the formula of the previous Frederick with little improvement but the musics are much tougher then the previous resulting in a greater and funner challenge.

In this sequel musics are even nicer than the previous as much as the story is so lame... really, really lame. Too bad because the idea behind it is nice.

I still reccomend it.

TLDR: Derivative of the first without fixing any of the shortcomings. By then I immediately knew what i was up against and gave up quickly.

Same cheap animations, same lazy writing. Now the anachronistic protag tries to act cool rather than be from a previous century, he still acts all emo as if he has a void inside even though that was supposed to be adressed in the earlier game. Uh... yeah the mechanics are still designed for touch interface and are still a spaghetti cluster for the mind and fingers to try to tackle. Truly horrendous. This time instead of lazy stereotypes we get cheap pop culture references. Yay

Soooo this game... it is enjoyable in my opinion. Is it worth $8? I would say no which is why I bought it when it was on sale. I began on the hardest difficulty just to see what the game had in store for Chopin (Hardest difficulty). These are the difficulties in sequential order (should go without saying, but just in case): 1. Too Easy 2. Normal 3. Hard 4. Chopin. Honestly I could not see the difference between Hard and Chopin as they looked the same to me. People who are saying that "Too Easy" is difficult surprise me. ESPECIALLY when they've only played the game for 0.1 hours. If you're one of these people.... please.... shut up. Give it at least an HOUR before bashing on this game's controls and saying that "Too Easy" is hard.

Now as for the controls.... the default ones are pretty weird and uncomfortable. I never used the mouse so I have no idea what other people are talking about. I changed my controls to make the game easier. I left ASDF alone, but changed the black keys to IOP since it made the game easier. That being said, the controls still were weird and take some time getting used to. I do not play the piano nor have I ever used you in a serious manner, yet the game was still fairly easy. So do you need experience with playing a piano to be good or decent at this game? No. Would it help if you did?.... Well I cannot answer that since I do not play the piano.

As for the story, I felt that it was slow paced. No I don't mean there was filler, just it seemed like there were many awkward pauses between dialogues. I came into this game hoping to get a few laughs in, but that did not happen. I would say it was mainly due to the long pauses between dialogues. Think of it as a joke in real life, your friend builds you up and towards the end he just pauses too long and by the time the punch line is delivered, you go, "Eh/ Meh" since they took too long. A poor analogy probably since I did not feel any build up from this game to begin with. Story was good for the price paid though and the graphics were great, like the art style.

Now for the music in the game, I personally only liked the music from Falcon's, Villain Mike's, Russian Robot Dancer's, and the final boss's battle. All of the other songs did not really appeal to me or feel like they fit in with the person you were competing with.

Also here's a tip for you people who think "Too Easy" is hard... try playing Geometry Dash, Super Hexagon, The Impossible Game, Melody's Escape, or Audiosurf 2 (Fast paced songs) . Those games will help improve your reflexes for those types of games and games like Frederic: Evil Strikes Back. I highly recommend Geometry Dash out of all of these though since it really helped me with my timing. And play levels on Hard, Insane, or even Demon to really improve. If you stick with the easy levels, you'll be wasting your time..... though you're wasting your time regardless if you play easy or not.... whatever do what you want in your "valuable" life. Hope this helped or got a smirk out of your depressing face. (If you take offense to this then............ I don't know how you handle the real world if you cannot handle some sarcastic internet crap.)

Much like the first game, this one retains the standard goofiness, and maybe even dials it up with a bunch of 80's and 90's references, and satisfying gameplay. The music though, which was a high point of the first game, isn't quite as good—gone are Chopin's tracks, replaced by remixed tracks from other famous musicians. It's not a deal breaker to me, and some of the new tracks are quite good, but it may bother you if you've played and liked the original.

Overall though, I can definitely recommend this. It's still fun, it's still ridiculous, it's still Frederic.

I'm not sure what to say. I love it.
It's got some great illustrations, great music, and a fun story.
There is a slight problem if you choose to play it with a keyboard, that you can't "slide" notes (at least, I don't know how to do it and the game doesn't explain), but otherwise, it's truly a fun rhythm game and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Someoneman
Someoneman

If you liked the first game, you'll probably like this one too.

The big issue is that the music is no longer arrangements of Chopin's music, so if you liked that aspect of the first game you'll be disappointed. The other big issue is the lack of Arena mode, which means less content. Finally, the difficulty level is much higher. Even if you could beat the first game on Chopin difficulty, you might not breeze through this one effortlessly.

The new songs are of varying quality, but there are a few great ones that are worth playing for.

The bundle of the two games goes on sale for 90% off often, which is a steal. Get it.

tuxdelux
tuxdelux

The new Frederick builds upon the gameplay of the original, with two new notes and new rhythm styles. This new game uses the same cutscene-then-song format, though (and horray for that!) The cutscenes seem longer, the songs seem longer, but I think I prefer the classical remixes of the original. Having played through both games, I can say that they work 100% perfectly on ubuntu linux. It took me a long time to warm up to the Frederick games, but these have become some of my favorite games to play.

As if it were even possible, this game is even more demanding than the first. There are two levels, where there is simply no pattern to the notes. The only way to mastery is through obscene memorization or lightning reflexes. For this reason, I believe the original Frederick has better gameplay, even while this sequel is still very good. The original Frederic feels more fair, and I only recommend Evil Strikes Back, after the reader has an appreciation for this type of gameplay from the original.

This game uses the Unity Game Engine. It takes 1,800 MBs of diskspace. I played this game with the keyboard only, with an ubuntu linux desktop with radeon mesa graphic drivers. I recommend this game to anyone who can appreciate music, and it will show them a deeper appreciation for music, tonality, and rhythm. The Frederic games are some of my favorite Steam games, and I keep coming back to them again and again. I am very grateful for the experiences.

Frederic: Evil Strikes Back is a fun little music game, where you have to match keys on your computer keyboard to the incoming graphical representation of musical notes onto a music keyboard in the game.

The keys are pretty easy. You use WER on one row of your computer keyboard and ASDF on the other row, and occasionally hit the spacebar. That's it.
However, matching the incoming notes is not always so easy when they're going fast.

Frederic: Evil Strikes Back has various cut scenes (which you can skip, if you want to) which give a brief story as a background to the game. There's not a lot of depth to the tale, but it has some nicely-drawn graphics.

I must admit that I'm pretty rubbish at this game, so I was surprised that I was able to get through all of the sessions even on the easy setting. Luckily, the game forgave me my many mistakes.
Whether I would be able to do all of the sessions on the harder settings might be a different matter altogether (although I haven't attempted those as yet).

If you like music, and - more importantly - are quite dextrous, then it could be worth giving this game a try.

6/10.

Once again the player takes control of Frederic Chopin, now transformed to a hip rockstar, who must rescue his three muses from an(other) evil villain and, same as the first game, must battle through a group of global musicians who stand in his way.

It seems that the developers were going for an original take on the music for the game(there are no remixes of Chopin compositions here, unlike the first game). The music is just as addicting and exciting as the first game, but it's quite disappointing that they removed Chopin's music that made the first game so special and memorable. It's slightly more difficult, but other than that, it's exactly the same game. Gameplay has not changed, plot is just as laughably over the top with the same cheesy animation and voice acting, only this time with twice the amount of pop culture references including Michael Jackson, Kiss, Lady Gaga, etc. But, nevertheless, a fun game to try out.

In fact, it's the only game where you will see Frederic Chopin, a Polish composer who suffered from tuberculosis throughout his entire life, transform into a muscular rockstar and battle against a gigantic robot with his awesome musicality.

7/10

This game has an unique art style and has a good soundtrack. It's funny, but would be way funnier if you played this on its release year because of some meme references.

It has a few music references as well. The gameplay is simple and can be very challenging.

Since the campaign is kinda short, i recommend to only buy this on sale.

The music and story are a bit downgraded from the first one but it's a short game and if you loved the first one, then you'll like this one as well

i thought i can enjoy music game, so i got this game but oh no... woah... what is that.. easy mode is already for the expert or someone who can move the eye balls so fast and fingers at once it seems, it was so stressful for me, i think need a lot of practice, but that music was not so good as well so i don't like this game sadly, i think there was more good music games, i miss those kind of good music games more though, this is one of them and i just hate it, so i can recommend this game to only someone who can move the eye balls so fast and not need to look at the keyboard humans, also who can use the brain so much for this game, this is good for old humans i think, just training the brain for not forgetting many things or like that, it is good to moving the fingers, please play this game old humans. i think 67-145 year old users, this might help your health

Follows the same everything as RoM. If you loved RoM like me, this game is worth buying. If you looking for something new to experience, probably not worth getting.

Apart from me sucking at games this is too damn hard. How do you people play 7 keyboard buttons guitar hero???

It's not particularly polished and I skipped the cutscenes, but I did enjoy it. You have to hit notes flying down (similar to guitar hero) that line up with 7 different piano keys. Even as a piano player, I had to practice some sessions a lot and had a challenge on the top difficulty.

Less good story than part 1, less awesome music than part 1 and also a bit less content than perat 1. But still a great game. They added a few new types of keys which are kind of fun, besides there have very few things changed. Recommend to wait for sale tho.

Continuation of the “Resurrection of Music” game, “Evil Strikes Back” brings back our hero Chopin (now fully alive and with his heart intact) who must once again take on the challenge to save the world from yet another villain seeking to bend all music to his own nefarious goals. Gameplays is exactly the same as in the previous part, without any significant innovation: you get to “play the piano” (tap keys on keyboard) to match the notes of music to defeat your opponents in musical duels, except the music is now renditions of famous modern-age singers and composers (whom you get to meet in accompanying animations and fight in the duels), instead of Chopin’s own music. Still, it offers at least the same level of fun as the previous Frederic game did, and if you liked that one, you’ll surely enjoy its successor as well.

So far so good... :) I spend more time patching the tool for midi -> keyboard conversion on linux than playing the game.
Not so many music games on steam and this one rocks on it's simple musical side, just don't bother about morons.

I love this game, I found it to be hard at first since I've never really played a rhythm game like this, but in the end, I really enjoyed it!

The framing story drew me in, but without a touchscreen, the actual rhythm game is just too hard.
I tried rebinding the accidentals (black keys) to the right hand, but it just made me more confused.

A crappy sequel to a genuinely fun and silly first game.
There is a reason why they have an achievement for skipping all the cut scenes in this game.
