It's 2023 but impossible to change the controls. Apparently some devs still ignore that all keyboards are not WASD, and that some people play differently with their hands. Unreadable, boring gameplay anyway.

Pretty simple game. I love alot of the concepts in this game and I feel like Geometry Arena actually does things better than other rougelike games, despite its apparent simplicity.

P.S. If you are looking for a challenge in this game then you want to enable the modifiers in the top right of the screen before you start. Thats where nearly all the challenge in this game comes from.

Great Game. A love letter for roguelite games. Cannot wait for Geometry Arena 2!

Lots of Replayability.
12 Classes. 12 Colors with different stat effects. many different upgrades, lots of possibilites for different builds. Modifiers to make it more interesting. A rune shop for additonal Unlocks and fusing. 3 Game Modes. Daily Challenges with leaderboards and rewards.

Anyone who has played a roguelite in the past and has enjoyed it will like this game too.

Allthough I would slow down with the endless mode. After Level 100 it can become an idle game if your build is too op. If you do not like that stick with the Normal oder Wanderer Mode.

Blue2Shroom
Blue2Shroom

this game does not require skill.

you can easily max out everything in 1-3 runs. after that, it's checking what the other ships do.

every build ends up being roughly the same in the end. you shoot so fast, kill everything in 1 tick, and covering the entire map. when enemies spawn on you, it checks if they would die a bullet and then checks if you're on a hitbox. this leads to being practically invincible.

there are upgrades that are really good where it feels like you don't have to play the game anymore (you win). it feels good when you start scaling after getting the upgrade.

simple game with a rush of early dopamine. end up losing a run on purpose to get the feel again.

Abacus Paradox

It looks like it would be a fun game to play but it is mostly a grind. Very repetitive gameplay. Once you know the best strategy or have a favorite style, why try out different things? Especially if they do not make you win as well as the optimal alternatives. Then the game gets boring very quickly. Most of the challenges make the game absurdly hard. It honestly sucks for me because I thought this would be similar to Geometry Wars, after all I love roguelites. But it is more like a Chinese knock-off (no offense).

Saint

Very good especially at 64% off. There's quite a bit to level up and grind for, although it's quite simple after you do a few runs and stockpile up the currency and are able to unlock all of the classes. After that it's a matter of filling out the unlocks for those and working on more runes and then just having fun with various difficulty modifiers and personal modifiers that add different class-specific mechanics. It's satisfying to play and I like it.

neji
neji

I should've paid more attention to the UI in the trailers, because it is SO painful how crude it is. I thought this was going to feel more like Geometry Wars, but it is very unpolished. For a game released in 2021, I feel like it is inexcusable how half-baked the on-boarding experience felt.

VortexCoreGaming
VortexCoreGaming

While it looks like you have a lot of things to do, I never found any of the mechanics to be very interesting. There are so many difficulty modifiers and most are just not fun. The combat itself is alright, but low enemy variety drags it down. The upgrades are the best part but even then they get repetitive quickly. Feel free to buy it and check it out, it may have not clicked with me but it is very cheap and you might have some fun.

PortalPatten

Very good bullet hell game about geometry shooting at other geometry.

This game can get a bit repetitive considering not much changes from run however this game has a goldmine of content considering the cheap price! It also is really fun and has many difficulty and modifiers to choose from!

Overall, I would recommend this game, 9/10

Baines
Baines

Recommended with a massive caveat. Despite appearances, design and balance issues quickly kill the "skill-based" aspect of the game.

What remains is a decent enough cheap time waster, that even lets you save mid-run when you get bored. But the balance truly is borked. Play it for a bit, see the interesting ship ideas, have a bit of a power trip, then uninstall it and move on to some other game.

In the initial mode, the game ends before you can even benefit from most upgrades. In Endless mode, you quickly gain so much power that even at maxed difficulty you can safely clear levels with several ships just by sitting in place with autofire turned on. I never bothered to try Wander mode.

In theory, your eventual death will come from enemy health and spawn rates outpacing your damage output to such a degree that you simply can no longer kill enemies before they reach you while the sheer enemy density means that you cannot avoid other collisions when trying to gain more room/time to deal damage. In reality, you'll become bored enough well before that point that you start actively seeking your own destruction.

deathblack
deathblack

Interesting at first, then you just become OP regardless of the class and upgrades and wonder if that autoclicker you had years ago is still there to make it press "G" every 10 seconds.
Fine time killer for its price.

jaw knee

I’ve been having a lot of fun with this game. The variety of challenges, upgrades, classes among other things make this game remarkably unique, especially when it comes to games on the cheaper side. The customizable difficulty is also incredible; this game can be a relaxing breeze, or a brutal and unforgiving bullet hell, and there are dozens of difficulty modifiers that change the way the game is played.

Cons:

Repetitive music
No controller support :/

Although to be fair, this is a one-man project, so I think the developer deserves to be applauded for his efforts rather than criticized for certain minor shortcomings that could be chalked up to a lack of resources.

Cid Raines
Cid Raines

This is one of those games that lets you create an extremely overpowered build and put it up against overpowered enemies (or easy enemies, if you so desire). You can play it as a min-max simulator or a chill, twin-stick shooter. There's a surprising amount of depth and build diversity here. Don't let the game's simple appearance and cheap price fool you. I can definitely see myself putting many hours into this game.

Ok so I would recommend this game, but with a slight caveat. I'm really enjoying this game, and have definitely not had my fill yet, and the price makes this amazingly worth it to me. That being said, there are some things that might make this game not for everyone.

First off, the way that the game progresses difficulty by upping the number of and health of enemies encourages builds that cause the game to become an idle game, with every class. Every class is nice and varied, but if you're playing on Max+9 to levels upwards of round like, 70ish, your build is probably going to get to the point where you sit in the middle of the arena with autofire on and just let the enemies evaporate. You certainly get a TON of really cool and interesting builds before you reach this point, but every run I have had for probably the last 20 hours has turned into a stationary, autofire idle game.

This for me is not a bad thing at all, I enjoy watching the different routes I take to reach this point, and see what variations of this are most effective. Even the same class with the same set up will play drastically different for a while, and I've gotten some super interesting combinations.

Now the one other main thing I need to put out there in the interest of being open, is that because the end game of every run is evolving your build into a stationary idle game, it means that ultimately there isn't as much to do in the game. It won't take many good runs of this idle style of build to get enough stars (the resource that acts as both your score for a run, and for your currency for out of run meta progression) to basically max all of your stats. The only depth in the game that I would consider endless is the rune system, which is actually something I find super interesting.

The rune system involves using a currency you earn in runs called coins (which you can convert stars into as well) to buy runes of varying degrees, which can be fused together to build unique and better runes. Runes are basically just a loadout that gives you upgrades right off the bat, and they can dramatically affect how an early run will play out, by affecting what is available in your shop, what your stats are, etc. It reminds me of the weapon crafting system in Kid Icarus: Uprising, if anyone is familiar with that, and that was probably my favorite part of that game, which was my favorite 3ds game.

Overall, the game is incredibly worth it at the current price, I just think it's important to be aware of what you're buying, as the experience most definitely might not be for everyone.

Baart | ϵxcalibaard
Baart | ϵxcalibaard

It's a very raw experience, and the progression is not fun.

I unlocked everything but the proficiency skills in 3 runs. It's extremely easy to get to a point where you just buy every non-detrimental upgrade and destroy the entire arena on spawn. At that point, there is no difference between the classes anymore, because you always get (roughly) the same items, and you're just playing until you don't one-shot everything anymore and die. This makes it less of a roguelite, more of a puzzle to get to that state.

The meta progression via runes is lackluster, runes boosts raw stats, or start you off with some mods early, which you would get anyway. It just makes it even easier to get to one-shotting. This means the best rune you can make just boosts stats, and will just allow you to go a few waves further. It's really missing something unique about them that sets them apart from other game mechanics, which are also heavily focused on raw stat boosts.

Upping the difficulty level just boosts enemy body stats. No speed increases or more difficult patterns or anything, just bullet spongyness in the early game, and meaningless in endgame. The enemies are (as the title suggests) just some geometry figures, but have very simple movement patterns and random spawns. It would be much more interesting if the patterns were more specific to the shape, or if they had some kind of structure to their behavior together, rather than just doing everything solo.

Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to Geometry Arena 2, where I hope these issues will be addressed :)

I'd recommend getting Nova Drift or Risk of Rain 2 instead, for Roguelite in space, or Roguelite with crazy overpowered builds respectively. Though, neither of those games are just 5 euro I suppose, so you could still get this if you have an insatiable need for beeg number.

A fun if samey after a while game, Geometry Arena is worth the few bucks it costs. Play with combos, colors, and enough iterative objects to cause a seizure 'til your heart's content.

Then do it in a bunch of different, harder ways for achievements ... if you're into that.

The game is fun and surprisingly addictive. Currently the hardets part of the game is the first few levels on each run. The middle and endpoint of all runs just boiuls down to buy one specific upgrade which gets VERY repetitive.

Overall the game is a great experience but it just becomes boring once you get far enough into it.

I don't know where I am on the screen, I can't see the enemies because the entire arena is my own cyan bullet particle effects, my DPS is in scientific notation because there are too many digits, and I'm playing on a difficulty called MAX+9, they should be charging 15$ for this game.

In summary, finally a drug that successfully treats ADHD without side effects. 10/10 buy this game now they should be charging us double.

Vengyr
Vengyr

Don't be misled - this is a sandbox/idle "game" about big numbers go brrr.

The concept is not bad, if a bit simplistic. On paper, there is plenty of variety, but no matter what you pick, end result is the same: you auto-lock fire button and buy upgrades focusing on the same stuff. Stuff like movement speed, power-ups is just pointless. In the end, you just stand in the same spot and auto-shoot.

You can theoretically customize the game by enabling different challenges, but it didn't work for me to create, you know, an actual game. It's either mathematically impossible to pass the first wave or a 5 minutes of a basic bullet hell until it turns into an idle when you get tired of buying the same stuff.

If you like seeing big numbers go brrr, you might get some satisfaction. But maybe do something more useful with your passion, like, get an economics degree? Or play a game where these numbers serve some purpose other than solely being for the sake of big numbers. An example of a similar game that does it's job much better is Nova Drift.

I didnt expect much, even though the trailer and everything looked right up my alley, but this exceeds my expectations by a lot. You either die to self damage, or live long enough to become an Auto-Battler. I bought the game expecting an arcade shooter, but what I got was a game which has the purpose of becoming so overpowered you can't actually see what's happening on the screen anymore, where the hardest difficulty starts feeling easy without extra challenges. The game is hyper-focused on one thing, and it does that perfectly. It's also super cheap!

kafswierzy
kafswierzy

I really embraced this era of short fun games or remade arcade classics in roguelike formula, but after this one I am fed up with this genre. This is out of the border of simplicity and art crudeness. So no, not every game transformed into roguelike is good enough, even for such low price.

It's a game about a shape destroying other shapes with shapes. Every run is slightly different as RNG is a major factor with how the shop gives you upgrades, and its fun to experiment with different classes and builds to find the one that's the best for each class.

It's a fun little game to waste some hours on. If you're looking for some simple mindnumbing game, then i highly recommend it.

i really like it so far, i managed to get 10mill stars on like my 6th run and i bought most upgrades and all classes, i like the fact that you can customize your game modes with many different challenges. some classes can be super fun to play, the projectiles look nice and the music even though its one song that gets remixed when bosses appear is nice as well. i just wish some stuff looked better and that there were more enemies with more attacks but other than that? it's a good game for its price!

Twin-stick shooter that doesn't let you play with twin sticks. The game is fun, but I'll change my review to positive once it has controller support.
EDIT: To be clear I think this game is really fun and has tons of potential. I just personally prefer to play this type of game with joysticks as opposed to kb+m. If you prefer kb+m for top-down shooters, I would recommend. I don't have a lot of play-time because I'm considering refunding depending on if the creator shows a strong opinion on controller support one way or the other

This game is a great time passer. I've been a fan of bullet hell games for a while (was never good at them) and I thought I'd give this one a try. In 4 hours, I managed to fully upgrade the cannon class and unlocked 56 achievements in one go. And I've only scratched the surface. With plenty of modes, difficulties and high customization options with your ship, it'll keep you entertained. My only thing is the music can get a bit repetitive after a while so I just use my music player instead.

At first glance it appears there is a lot of depth and options, but really there isn't after seeing all roads lead to the same path. You'll end up with the same process of getting like upgrades no matter what and for the most part aiming to clear maps within seconds without moving or clicking much thanks to auto-fire. I believe the game would've been better if it added in an actual map where you could move around with more freedom and even environmental features. I would say my 1.3 hours was not the best experience. I also think there should've been unlocks geared towards certain classes only apart from the "special ability".

Quick Description:
-Geometry Arena is geometric madness in a bottle. This game is a fairly standard arcade style roguelight, but the real fun comes in trying to put together the most outrageous, overpowered, synergies that you can possibly create. It's a little rough around the edges, and I'm not sure it has the staying power of more polished gems, but I can't deny how fun it is becoming an indestructible juggernaut of geometric death.

What's Good:
-The synergies in this game are really cool! Trying to put together the most insane screen clearing build is a ton of fun. Since this is an arcade style roguelight, runs only last about 10-15 minutes, so it's pretty easy to become an invincible wrecking ball that obliterates everything. It's by far the best thing about this game imo.
-Similar to Geometry Wars, everything in this game is a piece of geometry. It's a very simple, minimalist style, but it works well. It's easy to see everything, and due to lots of interesting particle effects and some bright colors, there is a lot of visual flare in the visuals. This looks great visually, but also is very easy to see, which is very important in these games.
-There is a good amount of meta progression that you will unlock as you play the game. There are a whole bunch of different shapes that offer unique abilities, have specific strengths and weaknesses, have corresponding colors that offer certain advantages and disadvantages, etc. You will unlock a bunch of interesting things every run.

Could Use Some Changes:
-Geometry Arena is a little rough around the edges. This is very likely a game created by a solo dev, so this is pretty common. However, you will notice the lack of any real campaign or story mode, very simple wave based arcade mode, and extremely limited tutorial.
-It looks fine visually, but it's not going to compete w/ the big guns in this genre in terms of visual presentation. It can also get really crowded, really quickly, making it sometimes difficult to figure out where you are located.
-I think the pacing is a little bit off. Most players will unlock pretty much everything in 5-6 hrs. Once this happens, and you have experimented w/ most of the builds, this game starts to lose a lot of it's appeal. There isn't a ton of substance behind all of the cool synergies.

Consensus:
-Middle of the Road Game (Tier 4 and makes up 25% of my reviews). I had fun for a few hrs, but I don't see myself playing this a ton in the future. I think the price is right, and especially if you get this at a discount, it becomes a really easy recommendation. Fans of Geometry Wars or other Arcade style games will likely have a fun time blasting geometric baddies to bits!
