If you enjoyed Sanctum, this is great. Dealing damage feels nice and the tower defense system is fun (you can be surprisingly creative with the nailgun). My only real complaint is the shotgun feels too strong.
If you've played other games like this, play hard for some resistance. If you're new, normal difficulty keep you engaged.
Only played this for a few hours and I'm actually really enjoying it so far. Tower Defence meets FPS is definitely a nice change of pace, and it appears to have a number of neat twists to the genre which is cool.
Performance is buttery smooth (low poly art style helps with that), and the music slaps.
Will update review when I've put more hours in but so far so good.
This is not a cynical asset flip, it's simply a tiny developer trying to get a game out the door with minimal resources. A developer who seems to be very transparent about using third party assets. If that's not your thing, you shouldn't buy this. But don't leave a negative review just because you can't even do the basic amount of research on something you are spending money on, especially when there's a free demo you can try.
The reason I wouldn't call this your typical asset flip is because there's an actual story here with characters who have a backstory and a reason to be in this situation. The story is your typical zombie outbreak affair, but I think it is written surprisingly well. You start the game by having to escape a caved in facility which serves as a good tutorial for the rest of the game. And every level after that starts with a little intro to explain why you are there.
Gameplay is very simple. There's an RV, you have to defend it. Building towers is done in first person, with a pre-selected grid where you have to figure out the longest way for the zombies to go while you (hopefully) blow their brains out. At first you can choose between a basic barricade, machine gun and a nailgun. In later levels you have access to much more defenses. Once you start the wave you have access to your typical military weapons like pistols, machine guns and shotguns, etc. Gunplay is very basic. There's a decent amount of recoil and the weapon handling feels good enough, but it's really nothing special. It serves it's purpose. There's a combo meter when you kill zombies and you get points for headshots, melee kills, etc. After the wave ends you have 10 seconds to pick up all the remaining money the zombies dropped which you can use to buy new defenses.
Level design is surprisingly varied. Every level feels very different, you start in a claustrophobic facility and go to a more open little town. The variety is very nice, but it's also clear here that it's a low budget title. Keep your expectations in check.
The game doesn't set the world on fire, but it's a nice example of what a developer with minimal resources can achieve these days. I would cautiously recommend it to fans of tower defense/fps hybrid games like Sanctum. Try the demo or wait for a sale.
This game combines turret defense and FPS all in one much like Orcs Must Die, Sanctum or Fortnite (singleplayer). The game is more focused on getting your hands dirty and fighting the good fight but unlike Sanctum or Orcs Must Die, it is easier to make a Kill Box. This is a good thing since there is so much to do. Kill, collect, build and plan ahead. There is a pretty good story that tells us what happened but for me the real gem is the endless mode. I can get rid of the things I don't like and add more of the things I do.
And if you grimace at the idea of singleplayer, well, there is a leaderboard, so everyone can see the top dogs and drive themselves forward for the better score. To make it even more interesting, the leaderboards are divided by difficulty or in endless mode, by what was turned on or off. You will always be comparing yourself to others with the same exact standards.
The Dev is a single guy and is hands on. I ended up helping beta test right off the demo simply because he always responded to anything anyone posted on the discussion board and one of my suggestions made it into the game! He listens, explains but most importantly, he plays the game he developed which gives him a leg up on most developers these days.
Good, fun title that does exactly what it sais on the store page.
It reminds me of the Sanctum games, except gunplay is more of a factor, whereas in Sanctum everything really depended on your towers.
The story is tongue-in-cheek but it does the job of providing a reason to get you from battlefield to battlefield.
There is a lot of replayability, once you have finished the story you can replay any mission at higher difficulties, with or without modifiers and there is an endless mode and a leaderboard for you and your friends (or global population) to fight over.
Some of the standout features for me was that every firearm comes with two types of ammo which means you can completely alter how that weapon works with a single click.
Do you want your weapon to penetrate through multiple targets, or set one on fire? Will your rocket detonate on impact or is it an airbust projectile?
Does your pistol freeze enemies, or have higher headshot damage?
Being able to swap ammo on the fly is fun and it also feels like you have double the number of weapons than you have equipped.
Likewise you have up to 3 pieces of gear which range from various types of grenades, to being able to teleport or double jump.
Once in game, there is always something to do so combat is fluid and fast paced and risk vs reward plays a large role.
Do you move away from your defences to pick up the cash on the ground? Do you bank your money, losing some in the process or keep it on your person and hope you do not die and lose it all?
Do you shoot down the government drones for their loot and deal with the missile gunships that will show up shortly after?
Overall if you are looking for a Sanctum/Orcs must die genre of game that has a heavy focus on FPS gunplay, risk vs reward mechanics, free build + the opportunity to build mazes, then I think Gross is for you.
Played the Demo before and had great fun!
Played the story so far and i really liked the effort put into it.
Gives the whole thing a nice context and has a Dog in it!
The Dev is also a really nice dude who put his sweat and heart into it.
Overall a Recommendation to all Fans of Tower defense games!
Great concept for a game. The tower defense and FPS combination works really well and is great fun. The Missions are rather on the difficult side. It really pushes you to think smart when building! I would certainly recommend this game although with a Co-Op mode it would be even better. I hope a multiplayer will be added in the future.
Its a really fun defense/tower defense game.
The story they added is good, there is a lot of funny references and descriptions.
Sound design is nice as well.
Each map plays differently because of how much room you have where you can build stuff and from which direction the zombies come from. (barbed wire and barricades make for excellent tunnels)
Dont see any negatives really atm. price seems fair. Just hope they add more over time, maybe a multiplayer?
overall a solid 8.5/10 especially for its price
You can tell that the dev is a beginner. Wish him best of luck but all the socialist politics, the wanky feeling of controls and the very bad tutorial guidings is a no go for me.
Hope to see him grow, but I won't spend money on this stage. Will gladly come back when at least the controls and the guidings are fixed. Waiting for the refund.
+Fun Gunplay
+Adaptable difficulty allowing a casual or more intense experience
+The combination of FPS and Tower Defense sounded odd at first, but works surprisingly well
+Dog
-UI could use some polishing
-Zombies can get stuck on some maps, forcing you to stray pretty far from the RV
This is one of the best Gun Gameplay I've seen in a long time, yes defenses could be a little stronger however I am getting massive Sanctum vibes and I love that franchise;
I can't wait to see what else gets added to the game, in the mean time I'll be grabbing all achievements and try to get #1 global rank
I have played the Demo and I've started with the real game and I like it.
I like both Tower defense (TD) and FPS games.
Pro:
* cool mix between TD and FPS
* new TD concept with collecting money and building
* It's a relaxing but challenging game
Con:
* There are some missing basic settings like disabling head bobbing
* There should be more different towers (that maybe have synergies?).
If you played the demo:
The weapons are way better balanced here.
Gross is like, 90% of the way to being a good game, but falls short in literally every metric.
Movement feels good, but is very limited. You can jump, you walk at a good speed, but you can't really go faster or anything else. The level design is great, but it doesn't encourage you to really make use of it since you're limited to building in a tiny area. The rules for making pathways is unclear, so building mazes feels like trial and error.
As far as the shooting goes, the guns feel good - they sound appropriate, the models are really good, the reload animations are legit - but the gunplay doesn't feel right. Enemies barely seem to register hits except for their HP bar going down. Making the RV the central point of defense enables the entire concept, but it also makes the zombie horde feel really underwhelming and not dangerous at all.
The graphics are solid enough, I especially love that they actually have color and don't wash things out. The sound effects are appropriate but not good enough to stand out. The music is good, but doesn't feel fitting. It isn't intense enough, it sounds more like arcade music when you get into battle.
Two other more really subject nitpicks: I dislike that there is a large dog that is useless. I'd prefer a smaller dog or a cat to a military dog. There is also no pet the dog button. Finally, and while I agree with many of the points brought up, the game comes out hard in the anarchic leftist politics right out of the gate. I like zombie apocalypse games because they're an escape from reality even if they're often a metaphor for rampant consumerism and indoctrination. I don't need beaten over the head with text saying exactly that.
I think the game is super fun and the combination of tower defense with FPS is done super well. Reminds me of a game I had on my ipod touch as a kid and gives me just as much fun. I think the price is a little high for it but if this is your niche kind of game like it is for me then it is worth it. There is a story, it is pretty good even, but let's be honest you don't want this game for that anyway.
Honestly this has high sale but needs some modifications.
First gun play feels incredible, have no fears there. I do wish I could change sights and such - but with good handling it's a minor peeve.
So what could this be doing wrong?? Well only 2 things.
One you need a menu. Booting the game sends you RIGHT TO THE LAST STAGE you were on as opposed to starting in the menu. How do you access the menu? Well it's on your TV in the back of your base. I'd rather just start the game up in that menu than remembering that as each time getting on reminds me that location - even if it's been a bit.
The only other issue, add in a way to limit frame rates! I would rather a smooth 30 fps or smooth 60 fps than a laggy, choppy, 110 fps. That is a serious issue! Once a frame rate limiter has been added, this game should be good enough to just play any time! Would advice, on sale price is also un needed for what you're getting. Almost feels like a complete game already!
Edit - just got number 1 global score on Shotgun's endless. No drones, standard starting cash. Was ironic to me. XD
Secondary edit - just checked in again, and there is a menu now! This Dev is taking criticism - BUY THE GAME. It will be worked on, I can tell.
As others have mentioned, if you enjoyed Sanctum it's fantastic and the artstyle is a choice that I personally enjoy. Pixel and cartoon stuff is my jam together with vastly varied zombies from the officeworker, punker and schoolgirls coming at you ^_^
It's all about humor and finding new ways to combine the towers and trying to be creative with maze-building.
I'd say this is not for you if you want a "balanced shooter" because it's not. It's also not a game where you can live through towers alone. You need to have both but it's a fun mix!
If I would give some negative sides?
* Music, while having great tunes, transitions are slow and doesn't match at all sometimes which can be a little awkward.
* I really wish there was a way to hide UI during building mode to give a better overview of what you are planning to do outside the minimap.
Great game. It needs to be optimized. My computer should not have difficulty running this game, but it does at points, especially in the building phase. My computer is capable of running much more technically demanding games at full capacity.
The creator should add the ability to build a drone platform that allows the player to have their own money-collector drone. A platform for a gun drone would be awesome as well, or maybe a little four-wheeled gun robot.
just wanted to give this an early review since its new...ill add more later...long story short 2 thumbs up!
well made game like sanctum 2(great game also). lots of room for personal strategy.. hope they make some money so they can add multiplayer! The gunplay and gfx are good...havent seen any bugs so far either...great job devs :)
I can get past the graphics looking like garbage but making my pc act like I'm playing cyberpunk. Don't mind the limited build areas but not having any cash to build becomes an issue way to early in the game. Its only 10 waves and turrets take 3-4 waves to save up for them, then they seem really under powered. Barriers cost too much so you have to decide if you want to change their route or put up guns. Also cant build during the wave. Its a cute game with potential but if you want to play a real one that does all this so much better try orc must die, That series has it polished and these guys could learn a lot from that game. Thumbs up for now seeing as its EA and hoping they fix things.
Ich mag das Spiel. Einfach ballern.
A fun strategic game of preparing for a battle and then fps shooting.
There is a bit of crap given to the single developer for using an asset pack and in my opinion this is just crap. I had never seen this one before so it was all new to me and is a great pack to use. There is 11 different maps (10 of them are base defense with 1 extra as the first zone to get used to controls and such) Each map is quite unique and well thought out and great fun to explore. IF you do explore you can get some of the upgrades sooner IF you can find them or even some extra booty on one of the maps that will make your run smoother.
Try the free demo to see if it's right for you. When you purchase the game you MUST go through the story mode (but can set it to easy and blow through it) and the you're in a safe zone that you can go back and replay any mission as a story setting or Endless with which ever modifiers you want (more money? no problem!, No drones? No problem) play how YOU want.
Great simple tower defence would recommend, In my opinion there is only 1 negative. There isn't enough variety to go for all achievements. The longest achievement to go for is to loot 5 million dollars. On a typical round 20 run with the 125% cash multiplier (won't suggest going higher in Endless mode due to fairly harsh mob health increase afterwards), which takes around 45-60 minutes will grant you about 20k. Meaning you will have to do 250 runs, taking a minimal of 187.5 hours counting 45 minutes a run. At the point of writing this I have 37 hours on the game and have only reached 340k, not even 10k an hour (mainly due to story mode which won't be as efficient as the aforementioned round 20 endless runs.
If someone reads this and has a great way to grind money more efficiently, please comment, I would love to 100% this
While very fun, the main story takes a couple hours at most to complete, Towers are next to useless as they just dont do enough DPS just use Varmit rounds and it will carry through the whole story. You are also starved of cash as each tower takes a minimum of 2 waves to save up for.
The game is fine, I guess: it has some shortcomings, for example, the campaign being much slower than it should have been, and cannot boast production values as most of the levels are decorated by, as far as I believe, themed assets packs, but "GROSS" can be fun at least for an evening or two.
To reiterate, you may grab the game if you're willing to lower your initial expectations a bit.
I consider the campaign as the training required to take on the endless mode, which really is where the game shines.
No bugs that I noticed, smooth game play and graphics. If you intend to use a controller then the sensitivity will have to be adjusted as things get hectic in later rounds. You will constantly be on the move and changing direction.
My current challenge - round 23 (Bulwark map). Well, lets just say I've not figured out how to mow down the big boys yet...they are tough, but this is what I love about the game - it presents real challenges which can be solved in multiple ways. What I do know is that one has to have a mix of weapons with different damage types in order to be successful.
What a really good tower defence game - thanks developer.
This game is super fun. If you enjoy Call of Duty Zombies, Orcs Must Die, or tower defense in general, you will enjoy this for sure. Try the demo, I put 6 hours into the demo before deciding to purchase.
The gunplay is fun, the towers and enemy pathing make for interesting combinations, the difficulty can be scaled up or down and even on normal keeps you on your toes. The developer is actively engaged with the community and listening to feedback. I'm hoping to see this grow, add guns, towers, and more gamemodes.
But even in its current early state (4 days into release), it is totally worth the money. Cant wait to stop writing this review and play more.
Edit: Another month in (2/22/23) and the game remains awesome. You can grind it, play casual, try new strategies, and I haven't even got around to trying to play endless on every map to grab a leaderboard spot. This game is pure potential. If you in any way enjoy tower defense and FPS, this is the perfect blend. 20 hours in and plenty of new stuff to still try out. The dev just keeps making this better and better,
My main issue with the game is that the defences you upgrade/build do close to no damage and that after a hour or two the game becomes quite repetitive, If you want to get the game you should wait until its half price / on sale.
Originally felt forced to beat the story, but the developer is pretty great and changed it up a bit. Still sort of feels like a "full release, early access game" but i think it will be highly enjoyable within 60 days of release.
I still would like to see cheats, mods support, build-able discounts, and a money grabbing gun attachment that is explained better or actually works!
Also, some folks claim this game has liberal politics in it, but that is simply not true. If anything, it has a slight anti conservative political narrative, but that did not bother this particular libertarian in the least.
Steam Deck verification should be on its way soon but the game (every game) could use a button mapping option too.
After playing this game for a bit , I just feel like WHY stick the TOWER DEFENSE tag if you almost never have any money to build TOWERS to DEFEND your base?
I really think this game would benefit from legit give user barricades every wave for free , so CAN BUILD a path
Tweak some turret damage or speed they do absolutely no damage on their own pretty much never, and since you never have enough money to build then...
what is even the point?
You see the trailer full of pathing and turrets but when you actually play the game you never have any money to build them and when do build some 2-4 turrets they do extremely poor damage compared to your weapons
this game as off right now seems like a ''hidden'' fps , wave attack and not really a tower defense at all
I really hope game gets a bit of change in the future for a better direction and make it about TOWERS and DEFENSES and not about SHOOT and LOOT
It's incredibly easy for an FPS-defense game to be either all about the towers or all about the shooting with the other mattering less and less as time goes on. But this game seems to avoid that, with the towers being important early on to catch stragglers and later to weaken the big ones, while it's imperative at all stages that you clear out either the biggest masses or the strongest enemies.
It DOES kind of suck that there's no option to checkpoint in an endless game at any point to start from there and redo your strategy rather than starting over, but it's not enough of an issue to flip this away from a recommendation.
Short review:
I like the game. I would buy it again at the same price. This is not a pure TD game, as FPS shooting plays a large role in this game. Is the game perfect? No. Did it cost $60 or higher? No. This is a single developer who used an asset, big deal. Some people on the steam forums are screaming bloody murder, they think developers have to create every single aspect of a game. I think if it is fun to play and I like it then who cares. The dev is responsive to player input, which is way more than I can say for the last 4-5 AAA titles I have played at $60 or more each. The story mode could be a little shorter, but by the time you get to endless you will have a much better idea of what works best. Endless is where the fun is, especially customizing runs.
Worth it on a sale for sure, very fun game, I just wish towers were a little more powerful, especially given how many giant zombies they throw at you past even round 20.
If you're doubtful, the demo features endless mode for the best two stages in the game.
It's hard for me to personally recommend this game because I do not like many of the design choices.
I personally do not care about the assets, art, or visuals - these are rarely important to me in a title. The gunplay and controls are smooth and clean and none of the art gets in the way of the experience.
What frustrates me about this game is the design choices, from the perspective of a person who's been playing Tower Defense style games since custom maps on the original Starcraft.
1. Money does not drop consistently from enemies, and when it does, it seems to lose value over time, take damage from nearby explosions, and gets constantly stolen. ANTI FUN, ANTI REWARD mechanic. If there are other mechanics influencing how often/how much money is dropped by enemies, they are not explained.
2. Turrets are under performing in general, forcing you to be the primary source of damage. Turrets are supplementary. With the way money is tuned, most of them feel useless until heavily upgraded and in substantial numbers.
3. Barricades are very expensive.
4. Enemies swarm from multiple directions.
5. The game forces you to allow at least 2 spaces in every path for enemies, forcing you to create wide and spaced-out mazes and highly limiting the kinds of patterns you can hypothetically create.
As a result of all these conflicting design choices, you have a FPS/Tower defense game where you are almost required to maze with a chokepoint to complete a level, but completing even the most rudimentary maze requires 6+ waves where you can afford only to spend all of your money on barricades. Then, finally, you can build your first turret and upgrade it heavily, because multiple unupgraded turrets is very inefficient, and you can ensure then that your single upgraded turret gets a chance to shoot at all the enemies. Then the mission is over, because you're on wave 8/10/12 whatever.
Why even include tower defense mechanics at all if this is the way you are going to tune your game. You don't give your player a chance to even build any towers. If you build towers without a maze, the enemies will just run straight past them and whack your defense point until you lose. Of course this is not even counting the annoying things like kamikaze zombies that damage money drops when they explode, the leprechauns that make money disappear (They don't drop it when they die either), and the tax bots which at least act like a bank of sorts...
Just too many frustrating and anti fun mechanics wrapped up in this title to make it that enjoyable. I really loved the demo and played it for hours. I bought this title based on my experience with the demo. It is clear that the balancing of this game is such that you have the most fun when you can push 20+ to 30+ waves, that actually gives you time to build a maze, upgrade towers, and experiment with different tower types. The pacing and balancing is just awful for campaign missions with 10/12 waves. The game seems to give you no option to play alternate game modes. I don't even see a main menu. It loads straight into campaign, which I hate. I wish I could get my money bank, but it's too late. The demo had me fooled about what kind of experience I would have. It's like the developer made a campaign but balanced their title for a game mode that it doesn't even let you play.
Honestly in all technical sense and moment to moment gameplay, this title is fine and feels good. I just hate many of the design choices that just make it too frustrating to play. Too many ANTI FUN mechanics.
EDIT TO OFFER RECOMMENDATIONS:
I imagine the developer can retune this game and make it worth playing. I'll come back to check and see how it's balanced at a later point.
There should be separate money drop rates and barricade costs for different game modes. Campaign needs MUCH better pacing and tuning.
Honestly, Barricades should be 25$ each. Your first waves should be dropping so much money that buying an ATM with your first 1000$ makes sense. And the number of enemies that spawn and their damage can be tuned upward to retain difficulty. As it is, building 5 barricades a wave for half of a campaign mission is just boring.
Well, I love the art style. I love the game for the little amount of time I have put into it. I am expecting a whole bunch more content. Campaign, secrets, locations, chapters, objectives etc..
Keep up the great work Dev(s). And please continue with the support for this game.
Fun Sanctum inspired game with a post apocalyptic settings and zombies, this visually really fits into a game of this caliber and I love it. So far there's a story to run through which gradually introduces you to new weapons, equipment, defenses and enemies and then there's the endless mode. Hopefully they add a lot more variation in the future, but even now there's a bunch of toys to play with.
I find myself coming to back to this game a lot lately for little half-hour sessions of music and violence. Good soundtrack, decent gunplay and relaxingly straightforward TD/FPS gameplay. These are the kind of indie games I love finding.
Absolutely love it! lots of replay ability nearly 68 hrs as of now lol, good gun play and trying different load outs is fun too. Would be great if there is more content coming, not sure if there is. Great game. Well worth a buy. :)
I was very happy with the game play, missions, and weapons. This is a lower priced game so I didn't come in expecting AAA level design, I just wanted some good fun, and GROSS delivered.
There is a story mode with some introductions to the levels, variety of mobs in the later levels and later endless mode, and some fun weapon functionality. Is everything balanced and perfect? No. Did I pay a lunch's worth of money to play 16 hours of fun so far? Yes.
I played through the campaign in about 10-15 hours at normal difficulty so there's a good amount of content. Ai is kinda dumb and the movement feels kinda floaty but otherwise I'd say the only thing I'd criticize is the weapon attachments, abilities, and disposable towers felt pretty useless and the graphics settings are kind sparse. I'd say it's a solid purchase if you like FPS games and TD.
Edit: Sanctum is a great game to compare this to.
If there was neutral option I would pick it, but since it doesn't exist I am going to give the game a light not recommend.
My main issue with this game is that it feels like it leans more on the FPS side rather than the tower defense side. Most towers feel way too underwhelming for the price, meaning that you will have to be majority of the defense. I guess this is fine if thats your cup of tea, but as someone who immensely enjoyed Sanctum 1 & 2 the game doesn't feel like it has a very good mix between the two components. I would like to see a buff to all towers, or a decrease in their price.
Another issue I have is that the maps feel very restricting on what you can build, since you are forced to leave atleast a 2 wide path for the zombies to go through. This just lead to me trying to make a complex maze, only to give up and make a basic boring path. I don't know why the dev decided to not go with a 1 wide path, my only guess is that the big zombies wouldn't fit otherwise, but in the end I personally don't like it.
The last issue I will state pertains to the endless mode. I am a big fan of endless modes in games, just the idea of testing your build and seeing how far you can go with it. This endless mode, however, doesn't feel very fun to me. Maybe I just don't know the build to use (although I don't see why you'd go anything other than the Scar with vermin rounds for max DPS), but even when going to a lower difficulty the big zombie spam was just straight unfun. The towers are already underwhelming and borderline not worth placing, but sending dozens of the big zombies that goo them make them actually useless. It doesn't even seem worth it to un-goo them half the time since thats time you take away from being able to shoot into the horde yourself. I would understand this if it was occurring on like wave 40 or 50, but this is an issue I was having on wave 20. The scaling just seems a bit...extreme, even in the campaign I was running into issues on occasion due to the amount of big guys being sent.
I wouldn't say I regret buying this game, and it does have some great features like the ability to force skip songs and an interesting money system I haven't seen in any other game, but the game just lacks the long-term play value I was hoping for. Especially since I wanted to 100% it but stopped because of the aforementioned big guy spam on endless mode just made getting to wave 30, and wave 20 on every map seem too unfun.
I will edit this review in the future if big changes are made, or major content is added, but at the moment I would say it's a nice simple game that I would recommend picking up on a sale.
Also a little side note: the story text in the campaign scrolled way too fast for me to read, and as far as I could see there wasn't an option to scroll back up or slow it down so I ended up missing most of the story. It would be nice to slow down the auto-scroll, or make it scroll on player input instead.
I'm not one to do many reviews, but man this was super fun! and I plan to keep playing as well but i just wanted to say this was a blast to play, a few times you get that good dopamine rush from some encounters. To anyone who loves FPS/Tower defense games you NEED to play this one, its simple at first but adds overtime and things get hectic, in a good way! I've only just finished the main story (last mission took a few trys) but its a fun ride the hole way through. I hope to see more things like this in the future!
Fun game. A tower defense/FPS game. I like the layout and interaction with things in the base. Similar interaction system as you play the story mode. If you want to kill zombies or just want to shoot some things (zombie), it's worth the low price.
This game really sucks. Controller support really blows. Good luck trying to find the sweet spot on sensitivity. Even on medium this game makes my rig hum. Refunded. Didn't get past the menus to try and get the game smooth with a controller. Claim full controller make sure it actually does it.
Do you remember Sanctum or Sanctum 2? Okay, barring that: do you like shooting at tons of zombies, and setting up kill zones and otherwise getting your tower defense on?
Then you'll like this game.
Yes, it uses purchased assets, but it all looks well put together. The storyline for campaign mode is pretty good. The weapons feel good and there's a lot of interesting zombie types and other mechanics (I hate - haaaaaaaaaaate - the flying cash grabbers, but the lore for them is hilarious and makes it worthwhile).
I think it's worth a twelve spot for what's here, if you like this kind of game, and I look forward to seeing what Hangry Owl does next.
this game has the funnest premise imaginable and they ruin it with millenial halfwit developers trying to reinvent the wheel THEY GO lets make a zombie game where you collect resourceas and build defenses
this is what we call fun
then i assume his cousin with down syndrome farted and burped out the idea of drones that steal the resources that are defended by drones that 3 shot you if you defend yourself
then being a millenial well i dont believe in retarded people their a myth good job lenny im proud of you were adding it... and inbetween clapping and coloring lenny somehow became a game developer which is a lot to ask for a team of developers with an extra chromosome who stinks of the millenial idea of " too easy difficulty makes fun" aka talentless shit wits.
someone explain to lenny that the fun part is where my maze works and is easy to make he turned off replies .
Scratches the itches left behind by Sanctum and Orcs Must Die in a modern setting against zombies. Satisfying gun-play and the freedom to engage with either the FPS or Tower Defense mechanics as desired.
My god, I cannot say enough good things about this game and it's developer.
It looks really good, is well thought out, and holy crap the feel of the gunplay is just spectacular. This is a great game that you can pick up anytime you just want to shoot some stuff, and have that experience feel phenomenal.
This game has all of the heart, soul and love you want in a good video game, and is exactly the kind of thing I look for in a video game as a person with a thinking, feeling mind. It isn't the only game out there that hits me that way, but it is the only one that currently scratches the "blast zombies heck yeah" itch in the way I occasionally want.
This game reminds me of Devil Daggers, but with a lighter, more effervescent tone, and more brain meat to chew on with my BFG of choice.
Yes, the game is some what limited in terms of playtime on first playthrough, but the price is right on the money for the amount of playtime it offers, and these days frankly I consider shorter playtimes to be a good thing in video games. A tight, well polished game with replayability and heart like this is just SO satisfying in today's cluttered, nebulous video game market.
Can I find rough edges and things to improve and pick apart in this work? Yes, of course I could, we can do that with any video game or other entertainment product. But often the rough edge of a piece of art like this gives the thing more character than anything else, and I think that where the edges are rough here, that happens.
The tower defense aspect of the game could be developed more than it is here. That's no surprise, this is a small game, with a low price point made by a small independent developer. If I had access to infinite money I would love to see this thing expanded into a larger more complete package, and perhaps if a larger studio takes notice that could be on the horizon. But for now I suggest we celebrate this thing for what it is: an outstanding, compact experience made for, and by, people who appreciate such things in life.
If you like shooters, boomer-shooters, bullet-hell, missle-hell, what the hell, grab a big gun and do some damage because it feels so good kind of games, this will be right up your alley. If you like FPS games more generally, and also enjoy lighter tower defense game play, this is also a solid choice for you. If you like any of these words and would just like to mess around with a silly zombie shooter while supporting a hard working, genuine and creative developer, well that's just fine too.
In any event the asking price is extremely reasonable and I encourage anyone who reads this to join the party, see if you can get on the leader-board and just have some fun in your life for once! Because you deserve it my friend. We all do.
