My game might be bugged, but it is stuck on the first objective of "put the wheel on the helicopter" And no matter how many times I attach them it will not register and I cannot move the helicopter or move on.

**update** I restarted to fix the issue, and it worked, but then the game got stuck on a new objective and the only way to fix it that I have found is to restart the game. And I mean that literally, you have to start all the way over. Still haven't even gotten to fly yet. will change my recommendation once these bugs are fixed, but for the moment it is not a playable game.

Like the other review - no flying no joy. You can't get past the checklist at "tail rotor control"

Its early release but i think it will be a great sim. I completed the checklist and the first flight using the default keys as i had no joy finding a control method with my joystick or my x box controller. Two hours of spinning and crashing. Starting a new game and following the checklist was easy and getting in the air and flying was a great feeling. This is still a great effort by the developer, i look forward to the updates.
After figuring out what the default keys did i was able to setup my controller. Now flying with my usb x box type controller and it works great.

there should be a bar to pass for a game to be allowed to be early access.. this is barely a game nor a functioning engine. Not a single input method is working to properly play anything and there is one playable/customizable model in.
I would not even pass this off as a tech-demo. There seems to not have been any quality assurance prior to releasing this to steam.

This looks nothing like in the screenshots ingame. Awful quality and textures and buggy sound

The only polish time appeared to have been used in the renders and two video clips for the store.

This game exceeded my expectations!! The scenery, attention to detail, flight physics (W.IP. clearly) were all very impressive! The latest update seems to have broke the physics a lot, but before this latest update, everything went swimmingly, never had MAJOR problems, every problem I had I was able to fix myself. A lot of people had trouble on the checklists, which I did as well. I learned, if you do them 100% in order, you will have 0 problems, which I have been doing and can attest to. I expected a crappy little helicopter simulator, but if you like rotorcraft and are a rotorhead, this is definitely a game/simulator you should check out. It has a lot of bugs to work out, but that is to be expected. I'm pleasantly surprised, and excited for more updates, hopefully one fixes the new physics.

Overall, it's a great game. Sometimes it's a bit confusing, and it could improve on that, but it's amazing. It has fairly good graphics. The realism is top notch and the models couldn't be better. Even though I'm still figuring out to land and all, I've been loving it every second of the way and honestly I think it's worth dishing the money for.

Great game! {{{{{{{{{{{IMPORTANT!!!!!!}}}}}}}}}}}}}} if u are getting done with preflight tutorial and click flight tutorial its not the next tutorial. If clicked u will be put into a loop and go threw preflight again. U need to click the photo mission rather then flight missions! this is the ONLY reason why people have been giving this game a bad review!

Looks promising but way too much work to just get in the air. And when in the air the heli just turns upside down for me, crashing with no way to get back. Replay doesn't work, UI gets stuck, retry just lets you retry crashing from already unrecoverable state. I hate myself enough to play helicopter sims, but not enough for this one. Perhaps in a year or two_

Ok guys after 8 hours I'm gonna have to say if you aren't even slightly good at hardcore flight simulation, do not even attempt this sim. You will get frustrated very quickly as the learning curve is steep. That maybe a slight misnomer, getting competent with the controls and actually understand the physics of how helicopters stay in the air are very important here. I've flown many simulated helicopters and this is by far the toughest. I've never flown a real R22 but I imagine its this hard. Yes there are a few bugs, but we are very early days into the Sim, give it time and I'm positive it will become a very rewarding experience. I'd like and improved landscape however, it appears very washed out and "bright" or some gamma adjustment would be nice. Overall I have high hopes and Kudos to Lines Studio for getting it to us helicopter sim nuts

As an avid helicopter simmer, the first (bad) thing that stood out to me - the controls are extremely over-simplified. At this stage, it's more a "pre-flight" simulator than an actual helicopter simulator.

Pros: I really love the walk-around mechanic. Being able to physically pre-flight the aircraft is a REALLY cool idea. It's arguably the best feature of the game which might not be a good thing to say if we're talking about "flight" simulator. I will, however, say that I really wish that the more famous/established flight simulators out there had this feature. The graphics are decent and the sounds are OK. I'd say that it's frame-rate friendly as well.

Cons: For something that calls itself a HELICOPTER simulator, it handles nothing like the real thing. (I've got a few hours on an actual R22). While I'm sure that helicopter flight/physics is extremely complicated to simulate, I have experienced better flight dynamics in mainstream simulators. Again, for a helicopter-only simulator, I was expecting flight dynamics beyond that of an arcade-style of handling.

Perspective: It's an early-access build. Still quite buggy and that's to be expected. However, there is great potential here. I really do hope that more of an emphasis is placed on a more realistic flight profile in future versions.

Conclusion: Not for "hard-core" simmers. There is great potential, though! Still fun to mess around in.

Being a huge helicopter enthusiast, I've long been craving for a helo sim that offers some kind of career mode or economy simulation to give flying a sense of purpose and progress. I was pretty excited about this project at first, but now I've come to realize it's going nowhere.
The flight model, which as I initially thought just needed some tweaking, is fundamentally flawed. I have some experience implementing flight models myself and I did pinpoint one of the main issues (the way stick input translates to roll rate) in the discussion, but the developer has displayed a total lack of understanding of both helicopter dynamics and subsystems.
However, I would be very happy to change this review once again if I'm proven wrong.

This game is too early even for early access wouldn't buy it at this stage . I asked for a refund but played it too long because it does have the potential at being a really good game . However it would freeze and the photo mode is very hard to understand. I would recommend beta testing before actually selling this. I try to reach the makers to suggest things and I couldn't find an option to contact them not saying there isn't one
just I couldn't find it.

Terrible. No tutorial to help set up the game. Game is slow and won’t respond to some basic commands such as EXIT. Doesn’t work properly, though I have all the requirements on my computer. Hangar kept on spinning, couldn’t access anything, couldn’t get the r-22 out of the hangar. Never got a chance to even play the game when I spent more than 30 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong with it and why I couldn’t even put the wheels on. I don’t think that this game is nearly as ready as they say. And most importantly, the developer doesn't know much about helicopters as he/she can’t even use the proper terms to describe the helicopter controls. A chopper has anti-torque pedals not rudders. Ugh! Too bad. I was looking forward a flight simulator in a Robinson R-22 as it is the one that I’m flying as a student.

I would recommend this game with just a couple of reservations. Firstly it is not easy to master straight out of the box, as a fixed wing pilot I know some of the skills required are the same to fly a helicopter but the major difference is of course helicopters are not meant to fly, they are meant to screw themselves into the ground. Practise makes perfect as they say. It is also still in development hence its price and you have to expect to find bugs and that is where we all come in helping the developer to iron out said bugs. It is entertaining but also frustrating and worth the price it is currently being sold for.

I've played many simulators, many were good to great, but I can't honestly say that any of the non combat helicopter sims were any good.

For Helicopter Simulator being this great in Early Access, I can only imagine that 1.0 will be fantastic.

Is it really just one guy developing this sim??? If so, great work so far. Lots of fun.

Anyone who doesn't mind a semi steep learning curve, should buy this sim without hesitation.

This game is a great concept and decent execution. However, being an early access game, it is severely lacking in some of the most important elements. Chief of these is the flight model. I am currently training in the R22 irl, and can perform most maneuvers proficiently with a medium amount of effort. I can't hover this thing in-game to save my life. The pendulum motion and control-input lag are completely out of wack! Not to mention there doesn't seem to be a correlator in the helicopter. The Governor generally fine tunes the throttle, but the correlator is there to keep it from getting behind when large changes in collective are needed. That doesn't happen in game. I feel like I am flying a Schweitzer with all the throttle adjustments I have to manually make. The FM is the most important part of a sim. It seems the dev got too focused with the out-of-cockpit features (which are features I really like) and just modeled basic physical properties of rotorcraft without making sure that the feel of flying an r22 was there. I was following the development of this for months and really wanted to like it, but the foundation is shaky at best. I really hope these issues are addressed, but I cannot recommend this in its current state.

I'm lucky I didn't encounter any bug as other reviews mentioned.

And as such, this has been a great experience. good assistance system, detailed aircraft modeling, immersive handling (towing, servicing) of aircraft.

If you are afraid of the bugs you can wishlist it and wait for the fixes, it will only get better.

This is a tremendously realistic simulator in regards to actual helicopter physics. After my intro flight in an R22, i can verify that the physics of this game are comparable to those of thedf real R22. If you use a joystick, foot pedals, and a makeshift collective, this helicopter simulator can actually train you to learn the physical motions required to fly, hover, and taxi a helicopter. The bugs that people have been posting reviews about, i have never encountered a single one. The developer has fixed any bug that would render this review anything less than 5/5 stars. All training lessons and missions work flawlessly. The only thing i would recommend is that the developer programs the tow dolly to not fall out of the players hands if they walk to quick with it. But that doesnt effect the flight dynamics and performance of the simulator. Which, by the way, is graphically magnificent and physically an extremely accurate representation of the actual flight dynamics of an R22 helicopter. I strongly recommend this for anyone interested in flying helicopters.

Edited after 40 hours of gameplay: After accumulating the amount of hours required to earn a private pilots license, I wanted to see how realistic this simulator was compared to real life, to evaluate if i could actually learn from it. So i recently took my first hour of helicopter flight training in a real R22, and i was able to takeoff, hover, side step, pedal turn, and land on my first try because of what i learned in helicopter simulator. You can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QufVoVLN5rg. The instructor said multiple times he was impressed. During my first hour, he said i had the skill of his students with 10 to 15 hours of pilot training. I used the roger dodger DIY collective setup to practice and learn the physical movements and coordination required to control the aircraft.

DIY easy helicopter collective setup (Link here ---> https://roger-dodger-aviation-build-a-diy-flight-sim.thinkific.com/cour… )

Using a stick and throttle without a proper collective and rudder setup might yield different results. But with a correct setup, this simulator was realistic enough to teach me the how to successfully control the aircraft along with the expectations of the aircrafts reactions to my inputs. Even during early access, i would strongly recommend this for someone genuinely training to be a pilot in the R22.

Unfortunatly unplayable for me as my joystick (Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2) could not be mapped properly. It would only ever allow mapping of half each axis instead of the full axis. Concept seems great though! Would definitly come back to this game once the bug is cleared.

TLDR: This game is not ready for early access. Don't spend your money on it... yet.

Just so the reader has some background on this reviewer, I am a professional helicopter pilot with over 3000 hours. I used to flight instruct in the R22, which is the helicopter in this simulator. Furthermore my simulator experience is fairly in depth as I contributed to advanced helicopter flight dynamics for FSX as well as helped developers like Dreamfoil refine their flight models for X-Plane.

First and foremost, the UI and settings are broken. Good luck configuring your hardware. It's a nightmare. English as a second language is part of the problem I am sure, but the UI is not adequate for flight sim enthusiasts. Need more in depth options on how to set up controls, and speaking of controls, that seems to be an issue with this game. My Pro Flight Trainer won't work at all, and my Thrustmaster was a nightmare to set up. Good grief. It's so bad if this were my game there is no way I would let it see the light of day at this stage of development.

As far as flight model, I tried it on easy and difficult modes. Neither one impressed me much. The pitch and roll rates are overly sensitive yet, there is a delay in reaction time. Also, there are some very un-helicopter like behaviors. For one example, in a real helicopter, when you move the cyclic a certain amount, you will get a certain amount of reaction. Keep the cyclic in that position and you will get that same reaction. In forward flight, this means that if you want to roll into a 10 degree bank, you apply cyclic until you have the desired bank, and then leave it. The helicopter will stay in that 10 degree bank indefinitely until you change cyclic position. In this game, you have to constantly move the stick back and forth because it either wants to roll further or level itself at a certain amount of stick deflection. It feels unnatural and very un-helicopter like. It also makes it far more difficult to control than the real thing, even for a pro. Also, the throttle governor behaves all wrong. There are numerous other things that bugged me that I would have been less critical on if I hadn't had so much damn trouble with getting my joystick configured.

Now, there are things that I like, and I think if the developer is able to refine the flight model a bit and get the UI and controller compatibility figured out it might have some promise. The aspects of having a character that interacts with things outside of the cockpit is cool. It reminds me a lot of what Fred (Dreamfoil) did with his R22 project. And I like the idea of having a career mode. Also hoping to maybe see some turbine aircraft at some point in the game's future. There isn't THAT much you can do with an R22 outside of flight instruction. Just too small and no payload. Being a private owner/operator with an AS350 would be much more realistic and would allow for much more variance in possible missions.

I would keep my eye on this, but I wouldn't waste my money on it at this point. You are likely to be disappointed, regardless of your actual experience with sims or real helicopters.

Overall a pretty good game, would like more missions and different maps so your not only playing on one certain map for the time being. I understand that this game is still under a bit of work but there would be some bugs to fix like the tractor, I had an issue with where I couldn't release it and it made me have to delete all my save games and start over but it didn't take me as long to get to where I was.

I would recommend it to real enthusiasts so far, as the game is still WIP. I really like the concept of the game - being the helicopter owner and built-in mission. The startup sequence will be familiar to anyone who had an experience on R-22. Don't worry, if you don't. There is mission available which will guide you through it.

I am using the sim with all assistance off, full linear axes set for cyclic, collective, pedals and throttle and no null zones.

There are currently some bugs, most of them has already been reported.

For me, the ugliest one is that my lovely MS Sidewinder FF2 cannot be used for cyclic input, so I had to use back-up Saitek X-52, which has some null zone around the center, so takeoffs and landings are... let's say I need mores space than ordinary helicopter pilot usually does :-)
On the other hand - Saitek mapped well and easily in the UI and so did my custom made, Leo Bodnar's BU0836A based pedals.

It's hard to me to evaluate flight characteristics due to limited capabilities of the X-52, but it looks good to me at the first look.

There is problem with the governor (also known problem), but if you turn it off and use just correlator + hand driven throttle, you may fly in piece.

4 hours are not much for comprehensive review, but I think that this game has big potential and overall, I like it.

I have reported my findings via author's web-page and I have found the author very responsive and kind person.

An incredible game in my experience very realistic, I love the challenge of trying to keep it up right while flying and the somewhat similar physics also the controls and cold start up is really neat and just the enviroment, I would love some more optiosn obviously than just the Robinson but that's fun. Defeintely needs a lot of further devolopment but it's fun.

Let me start this review by confirming that H.S. is fully compatible with a gamepad/controller.
On the other hand, not so much with a joystick when it comes to programming the devise.
My controller is the proven and well known Logitech F310 (wired with X Box configuration).
The joystick that is not yet "plug and play" for key mapping, is my reliable Thrustmaster T-Flite Hotas X.

It took me some time to figure out some important tips for H.S.
Here are a few examples:
When asked (pop up window) to reduce or increase throttle and cyclic at a precise rpm or percentage, if you have throttle or cyclic on "turn on assist", you must "turn off assist" (temporarily) to attain desired RPM or percentage.
During engine shutdown it is then possible to reduce throttle or cyclic to complete minimum setting with assistance to "off".
Using the - and + keys (or program right trigger for +, left trigger -) is successful for minimum throttle.
I still find flying with all assists "off" is quite a handful, and not chosen in my personal settings.
You must have the rotor brake to "off" position to be able to turn the blades (from outside cockpit) to a horizontal position with fuselage, just so that you can enter the R-22 in the hangar for customization.
For the photo mission when prompted to press the space bar for taking 2 pictures of the building, you must use the keyboard keys W-A-S-D for proper aiming, then click on mouse to take it.

As for the settings of my F310, having cyclic "up" on right bumper, cyclic "down" on left bumper, rudder/yaw left/right on right stick, cyclic forward/reverse/bank left and right on left stick, throttle up on right trigger, throttle down on left trigger, and change views on Y button, pause game on the start button position of controller, walk fast on right bumper, zoom on B button, crouch on X button, action on A button.
When using the towing device, it is best to "invert" the movement in the menu, otherwise forward will be reverse on controller.
Using the combination of mouse and controller makes the manipulation of the tow device much easier.
Put it back in it's proper place in the designated area, as for the detachable wheels, when all is done.

To proceed with customization you must first place the R-22 in the designated area of hangar.
Then you must access the PC and click on the symbol from the top.
You will then see the option of a paint manager.
Only then can you choose colors, finish, striping, and registration markings on the fuselage. When all is done to your tastes, proceed to click on "save game".

When landing on yacht (either stationary or in movement), it is very handy to alternate views from cockpit to outside, which is why the Y button position is logic.
When asked to return to heliport or doing the task of hovering, you must select the correct landing spot that is highlighted in a white circular shape.
It is not seen from a distance because it only appears when relatively close to heliport.

Frame rates are buttery smooth with reasonable settings, and start up of game/sim is fast.
Not one single crash on desktop yet.
The immaculately detailed R-22 (custom Copper color is really nice), it's hangar, and yacht detailing are truly impressive.
Water, waves, sandy beach, and overall scenery are well depicted.
Just land on the beach (for a picnic...), shut down, and walk around and you will understand.
Sounds in the air and on the ground, are quite immersive.
There is singing birds, a rooster, and owls calls surrounding the chopper and in front of hangar.
Trees with their leaves and branches react to prop wash when hovering low.
Indeed, realistic "Speed Trees" effects are shown here.

Here is one strange situation that happened twice.
After successfully landing the R-22 in auto-rotation, I stopped the engine, got out to stretch my legs a bit, but had to exit the game for a long phone call.
The second time there was no interruption.
When I started up the sim (continue game) the chopper was now leaning heavily on it's side.
I managed to open the door, but was never able to enter the cockpit.
I had to start a "new game" because the sim was stuck on this event.
My advice is to save the game manually before the flight lesson on auto-rotation is started, and just load it from there if something goes wrong.
That way you don't lose all your progress and money.
Do not exit the R-22 after touchdown of an auto-rotation lesson.
Just stay inside the cockpit and proceed to restart engine and return to Heliport.
Proceed to the save game/sim when you are all done and in front of the PC in hangar.
By the way, you will find out that the beach area is quite level for final touchdown of auto-rotation procedures.
The roads around the hills are mostly not level, but for the few one's that are level, they make an emergency landing a good spot to land on.
More so in the lesson concerning auto-rotation procedures and techniques.

I hope that time of day/weather/map selections becomes available in the future.
There is talk of changing game engine from Unity to Unreal.
It might come as a cure for people having programming issues with their control devices.
I just hope that it won't cause me problems with the perfectly operating F310.
If that happens, at least my T-Flite Hotas X will be ready for another try.

Of course purists won't agree flying with a controller, but instead with high end joysticks, throttles quadrants, and rudder pedals. I do understand their point of view.
But again the F310 is fully compatible and so much easier to deal with, than my trusted T-Flite Hotas X.
Flying with a controller still requires very delicate and precise inputs from Pilot.
Like I said, it also makes a lot of sense when it's time to handle the R-22 on the ground with the towing device.
Who knows, I might give my Thrustmaster T-Flite Hotas X another try later (with new engine?), but not in a hurry to do so.

The future for H.S looks very promising, considering what has already been done for an early release.
Lets all not forget that there is only one developer for this complex endeavor.
Indeed no small feat, considering the major complexity of this stand alone platform.
Just for this major task, Helicopter Simulator deserves a very well deserved "thumbs up" in my book.

Veteran virtual Pilot since Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 Professional.
Currently flying FSX SE-FSW (Flight SimWorld)-Prepar3D-X Plane 11-Aerofly FS2-Combat Air Patrol 2-Take on Helicopters-Air Missions Hinds-Apache Air Assault-Comanche-Police Helicopter-AC 7-Project Wingman-Il2 Sturmovik-Strike Fighters series ect.

It is a pretty realistic take on helicopter flying, but however i played the missions and then what nothing more to do? Flying around the map is ok for a while then it gets a little old. I tried hooking up my joystick to it but made the helicopter uncontrollable, however with my xbox controller it works fine. Over all it is a good game would love to see more helicopters and more missions, I do realize it is still an early access game and would definitely recommend it.

Love this game so far. Honestly surprised at the number of bad reviews. From what I can tell, most people have some bugs and glitches or issues with joystick compatibility. While the game isn't fully polished, it's a realistic simulator that allows you to have a more immersive experience with flying. I use a controller and it works great. Could use more missions and other helicopters, but I love the quality I'm getting in the absence of quantity. Bottom line: considering this game is in its early stages, I would definitely recommend it as it will be incredible when it gets more developed.

This game is literal torture, i spent 76 Minutes on the exact same part of the tutorial due to it not updating itself, second off actual flying is not something i'd sink my time into, i understand the game is in early access but this game doesn't have basic things down, in the tutorial it said "lower collective to minimum" after doing so the objective didn't update itself until about 15 Minutes passed, I don't recommend anyone buy this game, well until they fix it up and fix bugs, when that day comes i'll make sure to come back.

This game is next level. It's just straight up accurate simulator. I used throttle, cyclic, and rudder joysticks and it felt like I was really riding a helicopter for reals. Very cool with physics and realism ITs like your in real life I crashed a few times but recovered and got better and I know how to do everything. Btw Im very young and I know how to start one of the hardest helicopters in the world :)

Ok, i've been looking up to buy this game for quite a long time, and always seeking for some updates in order to make me purchase. Until recently, after buying a new controller I couldn't wait anymore and decided to buy this half made game (that don't seems that is going to be completed never.)
Where the fuck is the developer? Does he have some mental issues? Why did he ABANDONED this HUGE project? I mean I've been playing simulators for ten years now and I can say that even with so many gliches, bugs, and bullshits this still the best helicopter simulater ever created.
Very sad to see that we don't have a comunity, we don't have a discord, we dont have nobody who cares about it...
Amazing project, I wish I could call it a game, but it isnt.

it's impossible to get controls set properly. very difficult to configure everything. had to do the preflight walkaround numerous times to be able to take off. once i took off and crashed now i can't seem to restart. i can only walk around the helo. i can't do anything else. i regret buying this.

It started out good but ended bad. doing the checklist everything was going good until i had to do the Check cyclic full travel there was not way to do it. no of my inputs seemed to work. I tried using xbox controller that did not work it would not let me set and thing. Maybe I did something wrong but as for now i will not be keeping this game. Cant even fly or get past the check list.

I'm sure people who have experience flying helicopters in real or through other sims, but there is no explanation of what things do to be able to learn. Even if I could understand and learn how to control the helicopter, I still would not end up playing as the basics part feel rushed, and there is no sign of anything else being added to fix these basic issues

THIS GAME SUCKS...I just want to play and fly a helicopter...don't want to learn avionics and engineering. I engaged with this game for 96 minutes and never got off the ground?? What a waste of money!!!!!
