One of the most beautiful things I've ever read in my entire life. This chapter single handedly made this narative become my favorite of all time with it's absolutely brilliant storytelling and deeply personal/relatable themes. This novel masterfully grasps your attention, FORCES you to internalize clues and make connections while STILL having the whole thing be a mystery that you can’t solve. I am so incredibly thankful that I stumbled upon this series by random chance and allowed it to have such a profound impact.

I really enjoyed this chapter overall, but this is probably the first time where the ending became kind of exhausting. It just dragged on forever. I'm excited to see the finale, but the author really needs to hire an editor and cut the length in half.

I just didn't think it could get any worse... I can't feel anything towards things like graphic gore/violence, abuse, brutal murder, extreme self-harm, suicide or people getting tortured in the most miserable ways possible anymore, things that are all present in the previous chapters.

This time it's different, I felt like I completely snapped and was going through a manic episode while reading what was going through the protagonist's deranged mind which was overflowing with thoughts of paranoia and complete insanity...

The feelings of dread that I experienced are just indescribable... I was so convinced that these thoughts depicted in the form of text were my own. And I felt my heart pound so fast like it wanted to tear my chest open and come out.

Or maybe it's because I've reached the point of insanity where you'd see or hear hallucinations and nothing and no one in the world could convince you thatit was all inside your head. And I remembered how that miserable feeling is like again.

It's certainly a visual novel. It's got characters (that still have a weird omni-age I mean they look like they range from like 6 to 12, but have vocabulary and thought processes that range from 4 to 50), a plot (that makes no sense), and a soundtrack (that's alright I guess). Slog (or skip, you won't miss anything important) through the first half and it gets kind of good. Then, it just kind of says, "whatever" and throws everything away.

Oh my Oyashiro-sama. How many drug did Ryuukishi07 use to create this chapter ? One of the most interesting storytelling i have ever read. And you will get a maid Satoko, what are you waiting for ?

duffer
duffer

A bit messy in order to achieve a fantastic ending

The first part doesnt really tie into the back half, mostly because of trying to force the scrapbooks into the plot more as both a red herring and actual hints on what is happening. Because of that the Rina stuff has much much less impact to the full narrative.

Big weakness is how a lot of the POV shifts arent clear which hurts readability

ඞ

Yeah I don't know why the hell I didn't review this chapter when I first read it years ago. This is one of my favorite chapters, it never gets old. Rena is just brilliant in this game, and so are Rika and Keiichi.

This chapter was godlike. If I were forced to choose one thing that Ryukishi07 does that makes Higurashi stand out as an interesting and thought-provoking visual novel, it'd be perspective bias. You truly are seeing the thoughts, narration, and events unfold via the eyes of the protagonist, and this chapter especially you can see that shine. This chapter even more than the others, you'll question the characters and events constantly. One hell of a ride. I don't think it's possible to predict the outcome, but I can guarantee it will entertain you to no end. Please read Higurashi.

You'd think there would be no way for each chapter to get better and better than the previous... Tsumihoroboshi truly is godlike and makes me think that Ryukishi07 really did plan far ahead for his story! Everything connects so smoothly, even the inconsistencies are a part of the mystery.... But the most important thing of all -> trust your friends no matter what! (and also aliens might be real, who knows)

SNValadez

Two words: JUICE and HORROR.

Ch. 6 Tsumihoroboshi is full of juicee drama and horrific dark turns. There's a strong scent of realism and expanded thrills that I haven't sensed or appreciated in a long time, and the fact that we are finally getting some answers on what the hell was going on in the first chapter (Onikakushi) is the most refreshing thing I have experienced-- at least since this huge amount of rainfall my area is currently enduring (think we all could go for a legitimate cleanse before we brave the coming months, so maybe this is just a way of washing away the trauma of last year-- oop! Sorry, was going off-topic).

The great things in this sound novel?

1. Good intro. (It Immediately grabbed my attention, since most of the main cast is together again. Just some really fun, childish shenanigans that I remembered fondly from past games, which always adds to the charm).
2. The "punishment" scene at Angel Mort is fairly amusing as well-- with plenty of questionable outfits chosen for underage girls *cough* *cough* "Meep....It's embarrassing to have everybody look at me like that." (You and me both, Rika) .
3. Getting first-person narration from Rena at Angel Mort was both surprising and very welcoming. (From this point on, with all of the perspective shifts, the story gets plain-old juicy and utterly addictive all the way through chapter 5, 6, and beyond).
4. Ooishi, Shion, Keisai, and many others make appearances as well, which really helps tie-back into previous narratives and other storylines that have been introduced.
5. The soundtrack is perfectly unnerving, with some familiar selections. (The creepy and tense music heightens the discomfort and even claustrophobic feelings provided in some scenes).
6. When we get back to the Watanagashi festival, the horror, intrigue, mystery, and creepiness you may recall from a distant past is revived ten-fold. This is where we *finally* get some real answers and possible explanations after so damn long. (Like oh eme geh, I cannot believe it took over six years to get to this point but thank fuck that we're finally here! This really feels like a milestone and I'm still reeling in mild disbelief).
7. Amazing sound effects, as always. (That familiar feeling of wanting to puke after I gag was an eager reminder. Even if there are no legit visuals, the sounds and descriptions of certain horrors is enough to make me pause and take a breather. Fuck, this shit always gets me and I never seem to learn because I keep coming back XD).
8. Again on the perspective shifts-- this really helps keep up the momentum, and the narrative has very little lull. (I was on the edge of my seat almost the entire time).

This chapter is a wondrous and impeccably crafted addition the mysterious circumstances surrounding the village of Hinamizawa. I wasn't disappointed at all, and I look forward to reading more.

SIDE NOTE: Irie-sensei wanting to take 'Maid-Satoko' home was a little bit weird. "I'll get up no matter how many times I get beaten as long as there's a maid in front of me. Why? Because it's a dream of mankind!" Umm, okay, Irie-sensei OwO!!! His mention of "harem" also disturbs me, as well as the fact that he has a "maid mode" which can easily rival and compete with Rena's "kyute mode" *cough**cough**choke* .

P.S. I deeply appreciated Ryukishi07 and 07th Expansion telling the reader that it's okay to seek help in dire or emotional circumstances, and that there are hotlines to call in case you or someone you know has no one else to turn to.

reminder to download the 07th expansion mod that can be found on the internet- includes voiced characters, the (superior) ps2/3 artwork, and original music. there are some cg's and art that is too good to miss, and renas voice actor really knocks it out the park in this one.
IM ASSUMING YOU HAVE PLAYED THE PREVIOUS 5 UP TO THIS POINT.
Every chapter of Higurashi seems to be better than the last. There is heaps of tension in every chapter but in this, chapter 6, its dialed up to 11. This chapter focuses on Rena, and is a companion of sorts to chapter 1, like chapter 5 was to chapter 2. The first part of this chapter begins in a past tense narrative, coming to the present around halfway.

What I really like about this chapter is the extent it goes to show mental instability and sociopathy. In the previous chapter, Shion loses her mind due to a love for Satoshi and a years long spite with her sister Mion. While I love that chapter, it didn't feel as personal to me myself. MINOR PLOT SPOILERS The root of Rena's struggles is with her parents, and her relationship with her mother and father, the lack of a mother figure, and the ways she copes with it.

This is something I relate far more to. Like Keichi, I find its a real shame that the situation gets to where it gets to in the end, stating that it wasn't the best way to deal with it. I feel like its almost creator commentary on real life. Especially with a message at the end, telling you to call a helpline or talk to someone if you feel in any way like Rena does throughout this chapter. I liked that a lot.

It all culminates into a fantastic arc, with an ending chapter that took me about 4 hours to finish. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I really can't recommend it enough if you are already 5 chapters in. It does feel like the series is slowly reaching its natural conclusion now. Slowly but surely.

I guess I just love every minute of this series. If you do too so far... buy it. You won't be disappointed.

I'm at a loss for words. If you've made it this far into Higurashi, you'll probably play this no matter what I say, but Tsumihoroboshi is one of the greatest things I've ever read, period. I didn't think Higurashi would be able to top Onikakushi or Tatarigoroshi, but Ryukishi absolutely nailed it. I already loved Rena before this arc and I quite liked Keiichi, but this arc somehow made them even better. There are so many scenes in Tsumihoroboshi that are perfect in both concept and execution. The dialogue and writing is phenomenal, the soundtrack hits hard, and the voice acting (use 07th Mod if you haven't by now) has so much emotion and passion. I was beaming like an idiot, breaking down into tears, and just absolutely in shock throughout the arc. There's so much to love here and the climax had me freaking out left and right. I would go from being panicked, to hyped, to on the verge of tears, to overjoyed, to pumped up again, and right back to bawling my eyes out. It was an experience unlike any other. 11/10

This has been quite a ride so far, but now we are going full speed ahead!
Higurashi When They Cry Hou – Ch. 6 Tsumihoroboshi is the peculiar sixth chapter in the Higurashi When They Cry series. It’s Ch. 1 Onikakushi’s Answer Arc, and is mostly told from Keiichi Maebara and Rena Ryuugu’s perspectives. While Rena’s character being thoroughly explored in this chapter is a merit on its own, this one is a HUGE turning point in the whole series. Honestly, to say why I loved this story would mean repeating myself, but I'm going to ramble about a couple of things anyway. :b

Well, let’s talk about our crazy gal Rena. We always have seen Rena as this carefree and very eccentric ball of sunshine with a dark past who could easily pass off as a typical female lead, but that’s what the author wants you to think. Like I mentioned previously, Rena’s character is thoroughly explored. This chapter brings to light details about the strange behavior she displayed in the previous chapters, from her proclivity for hoarding trash to her angry outbursts. As for the narration when the story is told from her perspective, not only does she address the reader in a way that differs from Keiichi and other characters, but uh, pay attention to the text font color as the plot advances. It’s incredible that something as simple as a font color can affect the reader’s perception of the character’s mental state…

So, yeah… I bet you thought Ch. 6 Tsumihoroboshi was just a retelling of Ch. 1 Onikakushi with minimal differences, right? Perhaps you also expected this chapter to only answer your questions from Ch. 1 Onikakushi? Well, here comes Ryukishi07 to pound some expectations into mochi! Tsumihoroboshi differs greatly from Onikakushi, whilst still doing well in providing a lot of insight into the Question Arc's events AND the entirety of the series. This chapter will most certainly put your conjectures to the test, so keep your notes and screenshots from previous chapters handy!

In the end, I enjoyed this chapter a lot. I have the impression that the series’ ending was meticulously planned, therefore I’m expecting an excellent conclusion to this whole tear-inducing ride. Honestly, I somewhat lament the fact that it’s almost over, but all good things must come to an end. Like Rena says: “People enjoy things because they end eventually. Flowers are especially beautiful because they wither.”

This chapters uncovers the secrets behind the mysteries from ch1. It does it in a slightly different way than ch5, the plot is a bit different but there are still a lot of similarities.

It has 2 protagonists Rena and Keiichi. It switches between them, it's easy to tell who is speaking by the colour of the text.

My favourite chapter so far, this game just keeps getting better and better.

Before I played the Higurashi VN's, I watched the show and read the manga. It continues to be one of my favorites series of all time. This chapter was really good, as all of the Higurashi VN's have been, they have great moments when I am really invested in what is going on because either the creepiness or psychological factors.

My only complaint is a personal bias, where the dialogues can be just so... cringey. I thought I could get used to listening to it, 5 VNs in, but alas, the slow beginning made me put the game down for a while. While this is essentially an online book (which I enjoy), having to go through the beginning dialogues are really not the most fun for me, because they are usually slow, uninteresting and overly dramatic.

On the contrary, when things pick up, in this case as soon as Rina comes into the picture, I was hooked. I really do like how the dialogue at times will go on the screen at a slower pace to indicated the importance of the words being spoken. The spooky music I also really love that go with these games.

To summarize; it is good to be patient with the Higurashi games, sometimes the boring and slice of life seeming dialogue will come into play later on in the VN, to make a point. While it can be frustrating, I nonetheless recommend the VN's for the their interesting plots that build up over time. The characters as well are quite lovable. Even Keiichi.

Higurashi is a mystery. There is no point in reading only one chapter, and no chapters can be skipped. I'm assuming if you're here, you've read the previous chapters and you want to read more. Thus, this review will just inform you about two things I feel all people getting into Higurashi should know.

One: A patch for every chapter exists to add voice acting, new portraits with lip sync, and a different OST. You can find it here: (https://07th-mod.com/wiki/Higurashi/Higurashi-Part-1---Voice-and-Graphi…).

Two: By reading all eight chapters, you will experience the story in full with a complete conclusion. However, the anime Higurashi Gou expands on the story with original content. It features the same voice cast as the voice acting patch. If you are interested in it, it should be watched after completing all eight chapters. The original creator of Higurashi has said newcomers can watch Higurashi Gou, but I strongly disagree. It spoils the plot of the original.

Made me cry. Changed my life. Helped my family. I am genuinely convinced that Tsumihoroboshi is the long-sought humanitarian solution to adopting universal healthcare and establishing world peace. At the time of this review 60% of players who own this game have the final achievements (and thus have finished the game). This is way more than the 40%-20% of the previous games. I think it's with good reason. This chapter is so interesting. Instead of being mostly one persons point of view we get both sides of the story as it happens. Many clues to the overarching plot line, as someone who watched the anime first I am really disappointed at what they cut as the visual novel deep dives into how Rena is feeling and just makes a lot more sense. Rena is both very relatable and very not at the same time. This is the answer arc to Ch 1, but it is not similar to how Ch 5 is an answer arc to Ch 2. It is a completely new story from Ch 1. It is in many ways a redemption of Ch 1. Love it, looking forward to reading the next chapter.

Higurashi: When They Make Me Cry

Mystic
Mystic

Tells a story about what the true friendship is and challenges you about what friends really are vs. what family are. I love stories that have the morale of the story challenged rather than something that the characters figure out of the end of the story. Also this story feels a lot more anime than the other chapters which I love but know some might find it off putting when looking at the chapters that preceded it. Still, highly recommend this story. Now the spoiler stuff/post game thoughts Chapter 6 is probably the best chapter in this whole series; Wanted to get that out of the way. Now, WTF is going on in this story?! It appears Rika is in a constant time loop that she can't escape from and Keiichi can feel what's going on in the loop. What's going on with the syringe stuff? Does Takano know what's going on in this timeloop? Besides the time loop thing and Rika's, Takano's, and Tomitake's death everything feels like it's shaping up to just be coincidences which the other characters make it seem like curses. So close to the ending so hopefully things start clearing up but this is also Higurashi so you know how it is. Next game going to be special I feel it.

Honestly I'm going to review this entire series in this one review since as of this review I don't really plan on touching this game again..

Each chapter has the same BS - OYASHIRO SAMA, ONIGAFUCHI DESU, SUMMER FEST, slice of life time waste filler, there's very little new information added per Chapter despite the length of this game, forming a theory doesn't even make sense for the game since everything seems to be a hallucination, mental illness, illusion or delusion in and of itself and they did choose to make that the answer for Chapter 1 where all distrust = the Syndrome!!

The entire Chapter 1 you're hoping the best for the MC who's just having a bad trip and can't trust his friends which leads to another problem aka the message the author wanted to send..

The author decided to make the message trusting people without reason to trust based off the reasoning that "you're friends!!", and this set up for the Tragedy of Umineko which has the exact same message with a bit added despite masquerading as the rational older sibling..

The author doesn't respect your time at all. They disregarded the only working theory that ever truly came out (Rena's alien / parasite theory which I think turned out to be true) which came midway through this chapter, they discarded the explanation provided in this chapter and then made it canon anyway with the reasoning of "do you really not trust your friends?" BS.

(BTW I didn't read any of the after talks after a few chapters since it was just theorizing from the characters / fan service that took forever when I could just be in another long chapter.)

Everything in this game is written only for the sake of author convenience to pull out at any time he deems necessary (even when you're genuinely enjoying the game and don't think the game is getting boring he pulls it out anyway without reason.)

ITS BEEN 6 F*CKING CHAPTERS AND WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE "CURSE" IS.

*some of this was written before I finished the chapter fully and decided to give it another chance, we know what the curse is but we don't know how its affecting people, how you can even tell the difference between the curse and regular ol' daily life, and some other questions I can't be bothered to write as of now, this was a beautiful chapter in the end but ehhh, I'ma have to keep this review since its still facts.*

This game was originally released episodically, but each release included all previous ones, and all (Japanese) re-releases bundle everything. This is one story, not eight … For this reason, it doesn’t make that much sense to review arc 6/8 … oh well …

I can say that I liked it much better than 5 (Meakashi), but it doesn’t hold a candle to 1–4, even though 5 ruined 2 for me in retrospect. The structural conceit of having four question arcs and four (longer) answer arcs isn’t really working for me. Imagine a mystery novel where the denouement, where the detective explains what happened, is spread over last two thirds.

If you read Higurashi not as a mystery not as a mystery but social criticism, it fares much better. However, it does present present itself primarily as a mystery.
