this game is way better than the first. instead of single track guided play, its open world and your free to choose what order you do things in. the first has you last in every door and ladder but not in the second.
Homeland was good but the revolution is better.

It's pretty simple to predict if you will like this game. Do you like Far Cry 3, 4 and/or 5? If your answer is yes, then you will most certainly also like this game. If your answer is no, then you still have to buy the game just to be able to play TimeSplitters 2 on PC.

Also, works perfectly on the Steam Deck. Well, as "perfectly" as any other platform.

As a fan of alternate history I wanted to love this game. And there are some things to like, I'm not gonna lie. The game had so much potential. The world they built is incredible and the atmosphere and setting is grandiose. The gameplay loop is fun enough. The way you can mod your guns was very original and I wish more games implemented it this way.

But this is where the positives end, the story is one of the orst I've ever played with all the characters as cartoonishly bad. The voice work was also subpar. The soundtrack is not memorable. And worst of all, the bugs. Enemies pop in on top of you, or they disappear completely. Once you clear an are no enemies appear there ever. The side quest are glitchy af, especially the photography ones. You can revive in the middle of a group of enemies. This game is a completionists nightmare due to all the bugs and glitches.

Advice if you still want to play it and 100% the single player campaign. Only clear one stronghold in each are (do not clear the strike points until before the final mission. Do all the side jobs first (on the stronghold/safehouse notice board) as well as clear all snipers and vehicles and snipers for Hearts and Minds. Once all the above is done, then you can clear the strike points. 4/10

HO.... LEE.... Shit.... I was not expecting such an amazing game here. I picked this up on discount for like 3 bucks. Its been on my wishlist since it came out and i finally said f-it and bought it. i mean... 3 bucks... come on. I walked into this game with absolutely zero expectations since i remembered all the god awful reviews it got when it first released and so i was expecting to play it for 1 or 2 hours, get tired of it and ditch it. Little did i know this was going to be such a fucking amazing ride. This game has just become a classic for me to replay every couple years and gush about all over again. 1 full playthrough later and i can confidently say that i ran into zero bugs. zero glitches. and zero performance issues. This game blows the first one out of the freaking water. If Homefront revolution had released with this amount of polish, then im confident that this game would have taken the internet by storm and received mountains of praise. This game in its current state deserves a mostly positive overall score. sadly alot of old reviews are mucking up the waters. This game is fantastic both in its gunplay and in its atmosphere. The story is pretty damn good, with a few cliches here and there but thats nothing to dock points for. Also when your playing the game it actually FEELS like your doing something. like your liberating philadelphia, and this is due to the strike points and the hearts and minds mechanic. The more strike points you do the more friendly territory there will be in zones and youll see enemy patrols get repalced with wandering freedom fighters, talking to each other, grouping up for a patrol, scavenging the buildings. GREAT atmosphere. and in yellow zones, when you start to get hearts and minds higher and higher youll physically see the change in the world as people will start marking walls with spray paint, hitting things with baseball bats (which is alittle silly seeing) and generally talking shit about the KPA. and the more you accomplish, the more people will recognize and comment about your actions. Its fantastic. I absolutely love this game, and if you are a fan of the series, or like the whole city freedom fighter feel, or are even just a fan of first person shooters, you NEED to play this. Wait for a sale like i did or pick it up now. The base game is absolutely worth the money.
TLDR;
Absolutely amazing game, 10/10, am definitely going to play again.

Here is a more comprehensive review:
I had picked this game up about 2-3 years back. I tried the campaign first since I had seen the trailer and thought that it could be a good story. Holy hell was it a good one. Sure the AI isn't the most amazing, however this game came out about 6 years at the time of this review so I don't hold that against the devs. I grew really attached to the characters, the manhunt feature felt mostly immersive and I felt like I actually had to be careful when trying to complete missions. The fighting was difficult but it was also extremely fun. I had to both plan ahead and make split second decisions to come out on top. That being said, there were times where the AI seemingly didn't have object permanence, if you run around a corner, occasionally they just give up on trying to find you. Even when you are being pursued, the response and difficulty of the enemy isn't super immersive, as it seems like a super light response for what you are doing. Even if the game at times doesn't seem to be unbelievably immersive, it still tells a grim story and not once while playing lost my interest, I love the setting and the premise behind it and cannot recommend this game enough if you like stories about resistance against an occupying force.

It's not the best shooter I've ever played, but it's nowhere near being the worst game I've played like DSP said, heck, I made it further in the story in my 3 hours of game time than DSP did in his whole play-through. Fun gameplay, decent story for what it is, very interesting ideas with the weapon customization mechanic, beautiful graphics, cool open world map, it's a pretty cool game all around. If you can find it on sale for $3 and have been interested in it for a bit, go for it. There is a mid-high possibility that you'll enjoy the game for what it sets out to do.

This game is boring and repetitive. being repetitive is okay only if the game is fun but its boring.

1. why i can't pick up enemies' weapons after killing them?? instead, i have to buy weapons and accessories from a store with the money that i get from looting dead enemies.

2. to loot dead enemies, i have to hold the [e] button and wait for a few seconds, which is very annoying. imagine that you have to do it every time to get items from a dead boy.

in the first homefront game, i could get ammo easily by walking over dead bodies of
enemies, which was easy and nice.

(yes, the first homefront game that came out in 2011)

3. too many bases to liberate. i just want to focus on the main story and enjoy killing enemies while doing the main quest but the game always disturbs me by telling me there is an enemy base nearby and i should liberate it, which was very annoying.

4. why i can't skip the first cinematic video ? i had to watch the whole video every time i start new game

this game is just boring and annoying

i bought this game because i expected it to be the first homefront game but better.

HOWEVER

it doesn't feel like the first homefront game (2011) and it wasn't half as good.
it feels like a ubisoft fps game in a bad way.

the first homefront game was a way better. i want to get refund now.

I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single farther to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game for Christmas from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just, watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. loaded into the game, made my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. loved it as it was the best time had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

Timesplitters 2 plays better than ever before with keyboard and mouse vs controller as it was with the original release. If it weren’t for the lack of multiplayer, TS2Redux would be the absolute best way of experiencing Timesplitters 2. Beyond that, there’s some minor graphical glitches here and there, and it would be nice to have on-screen keyboard/mouse prompts instead of only controller prompts, but the game play experience is top notch here.

Apparently there’s some other game included, Homefront or something like that? Haven’t played it at all, and playing it is irrelevant to my recommendation: the experience of TS2Redux is enough for me to recommend anyone pick this up. Any hours I put into this title will not be in Homefront: it will be in TS2Redux.

Save your money. Play FArcry 3-5 and pretend North Koreans are a hostile force that has invaded your country, and instead of being in a jungle or forest youre in a city. Thats the entire game, except everything(game mechanics, weapons, etc) you can imagine is a major downgrade from any farcry entry. I bought the DLC and dont even want to touch it after the main story. It was a LONG 15.8 hours.

Pleasantly surprised with the game! For 4 bucks, it's providing quite a bit of fun. I like to play on easy mode in games like this, and just sort of cruise around. I'm not super hard core. The story is engaging enough. AI is pretty stupid so I'm not sure how 'challenging' this game is overall, but all in all it's fine. I did get stuck in a wall once but I just let the AI kill me and I respawned perfectly fine.

IDK, I think people think every single game is going to be an absolute masterpiece. The game is a bit clunky, it has its issues, but it's fun. Who cares. Relax. It's a max of 20 bucks and super cheap when on sale. Plus you get TS2. Sooo...wurf.

Take Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, Change the Nazis out for Koreans, make it open worldish, throw in a ton of miscellaneous bugs that are glaringly obvious, hire a writing staff that was clearly made up of teenagers, and you get Homefront: the revolution.

This game hands you a ton of contradictions. Its good yet bad, fun yet annoying, compelling yet boring. Ill try to break as much down as I can. If I don't have enough room below then check the comments for a continuation.

Story: (main campaign only) Its interesting but extremely predictable. I actually got fooled by it not because it was clever, but because I was trying to give it too much credit and trying to predict twists that weren't too obvious only to find out that they went the most obvious routes available. The whole thing plays out like it was written as a highschool play written by actual highschool children. My biggest gripe would be at the end of the main campaign, they missed an oppurtunity to play the American National Anthem as a certain scene was happening. Its cheesy yea, but not much cheesier than the rest of it.

Levels: Alot of this revolves around 2 different types of maps; Red zones, and yellow zones. Red zones are a free for all, you confront each challenge at your own pace by using whatever means you manage to get your hands on be it direct or stealthy. These maps are typically the bigger ones and offer a wide array of engagement types. Yellow zones are a bit different, they're civilian sections where stealth is the main key. Now you can go loud, but unlike the red zone, if you get spotted in the yellow zone they will keep spawning enemies till you either hide or die. Though the main objective is to rally the people by sabotaging the enemy's propaganda or infrastructure around the zone. After you reach a certain point you can trigger an uprising and essentially turn it into a red zone where being spotted doesn't mean an avalanche of enemies coming after you. I don't actually have much of a problem with these. In my opinion these can be very entertaining levels that will keep you going for quite a bit, but sometimes too much. I discovered a couple of strikezone missions (essentially places to liberate) that caused some problems. They boiled down to Hide and Seek for small objects, and I spent the better part of an hour on both in the dark because its very difficult to find things in the dark with a flashlight that is attached to your character model rather than just your cross hairs. That means it shifts alot when you turn making finding things at night a real pain. Other than that the maps are all focused on urban combat, little to no open field combat areas. Snipers litter the rooftops of the red zone and cameras decorate the yellow zone.

Guns: The guns are really cool but limited. They are almost all modular, meaning you can swap out parts to make them either entirely new weapons or better versions of them, and you can do it all on the fly. Each weapon (excluding the RPG) has 3 different alterations like the crossbow turning into a shotgun or a flamethrower. However some of these are redundant inflexible. The pistol sidearm you get turns into 2 things, an SMG and a silenced pneumatic pistol. Except it already can equip a silencer and the pneumatic pistol get really hard to aim when charged up so its essentially useless. The only weapons that I ever wound up using at all were the assault rifle and the battle rifle. Both guns combined with all their variants carry enough flexibility to render every other weapon in the arsenal unnecessary and useless, especially the rocket launcher. Assault riffle can equip a grenade launcher that decimates vehicles, meaning the rocket launcher has little to no reason to exist other than to unlock that 2nd primary weapon slot. The gun in general excels in mid to close range and can lay down devastating fire with the lmg variant. The battle riffle is essentially a marksman riffle that can become a sniper making it good for mid to long range. The pistol will always be carried regardless and you unlock the SMG before you even get to fire the thing so close range is already more than covered. I'm not saying you cant have fun with the other weapons, but what I am saying is that its going to be much more difficult trying to mainline them.
Now about those upgrades. Throughout the game as you complete the objectives you will unlock tech points to unlock upgrades and weapon variants including various methods of delivery for all 4 of your grenade types (RC-XD, Proximity detonation, and remote detonation). Attachments and character gear are all purchased with cash you obtain from looting enemies or valuables from containers. Weapons themselves are also bought with cash, including upgrades to the weapons. In fact there's so few uses for the Tech points that by the time you get through the campaign you will have more tech points than you know what to do with. I finished with about 90 tech points and had nothing to spend them on, none of the things you can buy with them exceeded 20 and only a couple managed to get about 15 so why the heck are they so easy to get and why aren't there more ways to spend them?

Bugs: My god, this is one of the buggiest games I played. Animation de-syncs, audio de-syncs, game freezing. NPCs will randomly t-pose, clip through walls, stop animation then die suddenly, walk in circles, say the same line 3 times in a row, spontaneously despawn in front of you, walk face first into a door insisting there is none, and commit suicide by your vehicle. I killed more friendly npcs by running them over because they just bolt into the middle of the road while I drive by. Enemy snipers will get too scarred and sometimes never poke their heads back out, I once waited a total of 10 minutes watching one sniper hide behind a wall the entire time.
Spawn distance for average enemies is absurdly close. You can turn a corner, and see a group of enemies, go back and circle around the building to flank them, and they'll have just despawned. all the while back the way you just came a whole new group just spawned and is now shooting at you because they spawned looking at you.
Your character will: pull out a grenade but hold just air, psychically knife someone (never put the gun away but the knife damage still occurs), will present a floating knife (blade towards your palm) to an enemy and have them just drop dead, swap out weapon attachments only for one to come loose and permanently fix itself in the air and become untouchable, occasionally when using the lmg your ammo belt with just not exist but the gun will still fire, and sometimes he just isn't smart enough to figure out how to vault over a waist height object.
I've also had occasional moments where the AI just decided not to think anymore, I actually had to restart a couple of missions because some of my escort targets forgot how to move forwards. There was also the moment where I captured a Strikepoint only for it to spawn me inside the wall. I saw the void and fell into the abyss, luckily it respawned me back inside but I could not get back in (you loose collected valuables if you die and respawn). Sometimes the textures just don't load and some things are stuck in potato graphics for much longer than they should be. You can enlist local resistance fighters to follow you, however if at any point you pull out an RC explosive and deploy it, they consider that a sign that you don't need them and just leave. Also if get too far ahead of your squad they will get caught outside the spawn zone and simply vanish.
THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I have had has been this weird glitch with the cursor, Its always on the screen. I've never wanted to know where the cursor is when I'm playing a first person game, that would be so frustratingly distracting. But that's what I've had to put up with the entire game.

Continued in Comments. Ran out of room.

Sure, it's "poor man's Far Cry" but still worth buying (DLC too) even at full price - and more so with the sometimes deep discounts offered. The bugs and other flaws are overstated in the negative reviews.

markymint

Not bad for a sale priced first person shooter. Sure, you can feel some Far Cry and Deus Ex influences or vibes but thats ok with me. Lots of nice detail in the world and the objectives are fine, nothing groundbreaking but nothing obnoxious either. You are going through motions you've gone through before in other games but it was still quite satisfying to see how it "went down" here.

The story and mocap stuff was all fine, it's not particularly deep but hey you're in an action movie, why would it be? There are digital notes for additional lore. I also appreciated the envrionmental puzzles and had fun RC car-bombing stuff. The sound design was all round good and the music fine really, moody cyberpunky stuff, worked nicely.

The gunplay is fine and the enemy AI can be a tricksy bastard which I found quite fun. The companion AI is somewhat braindead however and I'd be lying if I didn't mention I rage quit a few times but that's not always a negative, just a break and a fresh approach after a tense battle and off you go again. I played on GeForce Now it was all very smooth and responsive and I did not enounter any bugs, if any. When I thought there was a problem it turned out that problem was me.

I think I will probably replay this game again in the future to get some more achievements and try a different weapon loadout, maybe even attempt to capture all the strongholds. Honestly I'm glad I didn't pay any serious money for it but it was certainly worth a blast through at the low price I paid for it on sale. So under similar circumstances, it might be worth your time too :)

I'm not sure why this has so much hate. It's a decent game too me. A 75/100.

I generally don't play Open World FPSes so I didn't compare this to Far Cry like so many did. It felt more like an Arena Shooter with a really big arena more then anything.

Gunplay is decent. The story is average, but not bad. The characters are average, but not annoying (even the goth chick isn't overly annoying).

Basically the game is a AA where everything is serviceable and fun, but doesn't blow you away with animation qualities, an amazing story, or some crazy good gameplay.

Some of the detractions should be addressed. You don't actually have to do RC Car stuff (I barely used 'em and never needed them for the Strongholds). And the weapon customization is clever and, for the time, fairly unique.

Final verdict: A fun game worth buying on sale.

Fun gameplay with unskippable cutscenes

On one hand this game is a lot like Farcry but set in an urban environment
and on the other hand the unskippable cutscenes make it hard to want to
endure several plays.

progress to a certain point the main storyline)

Picked this up for $6 on sale with no expectations.

Its essentially Far Cry 3 in an urban environment. Retaking Phily from the North Koreans one building at a time.

Homefront: The Revolution is a first-person shooter that has a lot of promise. I feel that this game's shortcomings are just a sad fact of the troubled development it faced. This game does a lot right, but a lot very wrong; which I will go over. Don't look at this review as negative and a thumbs down, because really, I would give it a sideways thumb. I enjoyed quite a few things about this game which I can't say a lot for games that I truly despise.

Starting with a positive: This game is open world, and it's actually a good one. Philadelphia really comes to life in this game, and exploring the open world is quite fun with it featuring a ton of environmental storytelling, along with a beautiful look and feel, thanks in part to this game's very high graphical fidelity. This game is really pretty, if you have the specs that can handle it. I played this game at max settings and 4K resolution with an RTX 3080 (12GB) and i7-7700, and was able to get a consistently locked 60 frames per second with highly impressive graphics.

Another thing I liked about this game is its weapon customization system. Throughout the game, you can acquire 6 different weapons, but in reality, its really 18 different weapons due to the game's gun transformation mechanic. Alongside a variety of different weapon modifications that you can apply and change on the fly at any moment with the press of a few buttons, you can also transform your weapon into a completely different weapon. You can transform a pistol into a submachine gun, an assault rifle into a light machine gun, and a crossbow into a flamethrower; all of this you can do on the fly in the heat of battle, and it's a lot of fun to experiment with the different types.

Unfortunately however, this game fails the number one thing you MUST get right in a first-person shooter. The gunplay isn't good. It's better than Fallout 3's gunplay, but that isn't saying much. I can't describe it but the way you shoot the guns, along with the occasional missing when an enemy is right in your reticle, leaves some room to be desired. The lack of enemy variety also very much hurts, with you gunning down the same enemies you've seen at the beginning of the game, all the way to the end of the game.

While I praised the open world, the activities you do in said open world are generic, cookie-cutter, copy and pasted side-objectives. Every district is divided into areas which you can conquer for the resistance called strikepoints. These usually consist of killing all the enemies, solving a light puzzle or puzzles, searching an area for items, or platforming. These don't change, and they aren't the most thrilling thing in the world to do. I have a lot of patience, but I'm sure there are people who would not have the patience to do these and grow quickly bored. Another thing of note, a lot of these strikepoints just suck and are horribly boring. Some of them that try to do platforming, which isn't very good, have the platforms you're supposed to jump onto, and the path you're supposed to go, be hidden. So you'll just be wandering around an area until you eventually find the thing you were supposed to climb, and the game throws this at you repeatedly, with so many strikepoints like this and ones that also have time-wasting puzzles that are just as un-fun.

The story also leaves room to be desired. While some cutscenes feel very cinematic with them being obviously fully motion captured and properly budgeted, others feel off. While it seems the narrative may be good, with there being some strong moments, it really derails and meanders until you kind of just reach a part where the entire purpose of the game up to that point is abandoned, and it meanders a bit more until the end comes. None of the characters are interesting, nor do you care about them save for Jack Parrish, who is the best character in the game, and the only one you'll probably like.

The real killer is this game's technical issues. It's buggy as hell. Besides random crashes, you'll have to frequently reload a checkpoint or quit and restart the game entirely when one of these bugs occur. As of 2022, these bugs are still here and consistent, and I can imagine this game was a lot buggier when it released. The bugs can be pretty annoying, and the sheer frequency of them really sucks and hampers the overall experience.

In conclusion, should you buy this game? I don't recommend it, even at $20 (USD), but if you're really looking to play it, and it looks interesting to you, because I know, the concept of North Korea taking over the United States is a crazy concept and seeing an open-world North Korean occupied America is interesting and fun to see, then I'd suggest waiting for sale and picking it up while it's very cheap and could be worth your money.

Score: 5/10

Had to replay this after a few years and i remembered it being a little rough around the edges, but boy did my memory dim just how rough it is.

The first weapon is so horrid and you are forced to keep it for the whole game unless I havent gotten back to the part where you can have a better weapon kit. Sure each weapon has a few different transfigurations but they take WAY too long in combat while the enemies flank you from all sides you sit there diddling your gun to get it from dinky one shot pistol to dinky smg.

The tactics available to you seem like there's a lot but its not until later that you can even successfully do decent tactics instead of the most basic practice of tactics that the game allows you to approach with.

The stealth is garbage from the get go and is hardly an element the instant you fire a weapon at an enemy even if the weapon is silent. The inability to have both a reliable stealth weapon and fighting weapon makes stealth a moot point. Pack your gear to kill everything, thats your real option because the second they see you they all know you exist no matter the lack of shots fired.

And then there's the fucking voice lines. They are so lackluster that it feels as if they had a crew of 4 or 5 voice actors and gave them the script when they stepped in front of the mic and not a moment sooner. For a game that puts "revolution" in its title it does not give a very revolutionary feel to the story and tries to shove reason to care to commit these acts of guirrilla warfare by killing off the first two characters you meet and kidnapping the 3rd.

All in all its a fun concept to play along in a revolution (Im laughing cuz its not a revolution by definition and the developers clearly have no idea what causes revolutions to occur or the philosophy behind such actions) as its always been but was so half-assed that I cannot call this a game that bases itself in any decent guirrilla warfare ideas or even as quality fun gameplay.

And lastly there's the politics that they utilized in their story, however they tried to get it worked out. It's so odd that the story even has that route considering that the US is the country that terrorizes the rest of the world with daily acts of extreme violence against actively non-aggressive peoples and enforcing neo-colonialism, so the fact that in this story the US is getting a dose of Neo-Colonialism themselves is just odd, especially with the way they framed the story as that isn't how country cash deficits work. Among a variety of other things that don't track in terms of getting a player immersed.

In short: It's just a massively disappointing "guirrilla warfare" themed game that tries really hard in the wrong way. And I say "themed" because it tries to be one but fails utterly.

Love the idea, design and some of the choices but HATE the overal execution !
Sooo buy it -gift it- force ANYONE THAT YOU WANT TO SUFFER to play this masterpiece
On a plus note you might enjoy it if you don't care about achievements or comatose MP!
Love the guerilla aspect of just ignoring the story and just run and gun around the wartorn zones gathering areas and support (or could go to farcry or other similar bits - but the dakka dakka gun mechanic is really "gunny" )
DLC and MP required for 100%

The game was simple and fun until came across:

- RESPAWING ENEMIES AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN while not being able to leave a mission area or even get to bloody cover, happened when was trying to stealth missions
- 3 jobs .... why only 3 just let me do what I want when I want it, especially since they repeat after a while
- flashpoints being marked and disappearing before the radio request is done talking
- flashpoints snipers appearing randomly - 3 snipers marked in the same locations- no reward - no event - free kills I guess (if you have the sniper job)
- flashpoint having random timers and triggering srtike points nearby
-flashpoints not giving reward or acknowledging you destroyed the target (fart missile site)
-flashpoint at missle will sometimes let you put bad coordinates other times won't aka missiles get launched and you failso just rocket or grenade/mini car bomb
- guards/patrols/npc's disappearing or phasing out in front of you - less than 50 m funny when almost hugged a wolverine and 2 drones at the same time
- bodies disappearing in front of me before I could loot them right after being dropped
- bodies/events marked on the map but nothing there, civilians needing rescue but was nothing harming them
- being seen & shot THROUGH WALLS
- glitching and not being able to jump throw a broken/empty window
- in a huge firefight, multiple NPC on both sides but being immediately identified as the shooter and the AI targets u indiscriminately
- teleporting through the walls, ground after takeovers/CQC knife fights
- getting stuck in parkour state ... aka not able to move or nothing after trying to grab a ledge, pallet, wall etc
- getting stuck in terrain and LOSING HP (my fav)
- was in a container/room with closed roof and the airship still detected me
- side missions not counting properly
- recruited guerilla rando NPC not letting you cross/exit container/go through door/walk/dodge enemy fire/ dash towards destination
- pathfinding of guerilla recruits is ummm Leroy Jenkins & kamikaze during offensives or braindead in small areas
- motorbike controls are ....well a wild horse stung by bees that had chili peppers inserted in certain orifices is more tame and able to take you to the destination
- gadgets don't have a favorite! So if you buy everything or just one variation (for example - grenade and remote car det) you'll end up constantly scrolling cause the game won't care...good luck in a firefight while trying to detonate the drone launcher/vehicles via remote car and then throw a grenade, for some reason it always defaults to the thing YOU DON'T want/likely usable for that scenario by the time you end up using the right combo either the flashpoint fails, airship falls on your head or you're already turned into a swiss cheese
- crossbow drop/elevation highly inaccurate

RANT:
- our main protagonist has Alzheimer despite being young...or maybe too much booze or "he be OD-ing" cause weapons shake is beyond comprehension...never had my gun during aiming in real life wiggle so much real, airsoft or the ones at the carnival; miss the old COD/MOHA option to "hold my breath" to stabilise
-bulletsponge and enemies resisting stoically to rocket to the face
-no way to save a game so soft locks in a few places will F u over
-respawns might be in the middle of enemies time and time again
- storyline : the resistance needs people but treats new recruits to a complementary torture and execution soo umm...can I bloody fight for the KPA at least I know I'm the bad guy from the getgo and then turn into a turncoat or doubleagent or something more inciting and captivating???
-the trend of that era of gaming was "main protagonist singlehanded saves the day, the cause and the faction mascot but is treated like a green recruit by everyone throughout the game"
- it is funny, mindblowing and realistically sad depiction of how the people think about forgetting a national debt and how they "destroy" the anarcHIHIcal rule, but burning, looting the very structures and items that might help them restore their life back after overthrowing the regime
- KPA's goliath is a uber tank only damaged by multiple rockets...resistance hacked goliath...pansy puff puff damaged by any gunfire rounds mmmkay rage quit and I'm done!!

+Price on sale is what the game is worth. Which is $3.99.
+Way better than the original pos Homefront
+Capturing bases is like Far Cry. It's fun so who cares.
+Resistance stashes
+Story is pretty simple
+Voice cast
+Finding resistance radios
+Graphics options are pretty good
+Music
+Killing resistance fighters
+Airship tracker is fast
+Bike puzzles
+Fuel depot Mad Max moments
+Rain and effects
+You can get other resistance fighters too help and then dismiss them at will. If they are still alive of course.
+Enemy and equipment
+Using a motor bike too get to other areas
+/- The ending was pretty dumb and interesting at the same time
+/- Level design is copy/paste in most areas
+/- Enemies are copy/paste
+/- Resistance radio messages
+/- Predictable resistance ambushes
+/- Finding a way too some stashes can be confusing
+/- Some base capturing does have a copy and paste cutscene
-Side missions are a waste of time and are mostly uninteresting
-Predictable moments
-Both sides promoting war crimes
-Side quests routes are extremely confusing and hard to track most of the time
-Attack on precinct 15 becomes broken if you find a way into the base and open the main mission area. Then when you are officially given the mission you can't proceed. Which means you have to start from the beginning of the game. Maybe protect main missions area's better devs.
-Crashing
-Other than completing the side quests the replay value is very low
-Checkpoint saves. No manual saving.
-No mod support. Bunch of a.ss clowns.
-Seems like everyone has $5 in the wallet.. what the actual hell?
-Walker thinks he's a leader like that dumba.ss Connor guy from the first game. Too funny.
-Don't be a hero and an idiot when it comes to torture. Tell them whatever they want.
-Did hear codes names used for some resistance. What the hell is the point when you call each other by your real names back at base.
-Resistance doesn't use code names for themselves. The resistance fighters use real names. What a bunch of idiots.
-Resistance radio voice is bored as hell
-Motor bike magically stands up
-Low voice audio from resistance radios
-No kickstand on bike
-Can't check map when on the bike
-Detection zone spawns unlimited enemies
-Getting stuck on an A.I. and getting pushed/teleported across the room.
-Bugs and glitches
-A.I. still blocks your path and the game makes you walk in some mission areas
-FOV options are very bad

Not what everybody says it is.... It is engaging, versatile, irreverent, original, progressive and overall very well done.
Read the descriptions of the games you intend to buy and see the trailer, if you like it buy it, don't listen to reviews on youtube before you buy. Reviews are always subjective, and most of the times, reviewers don't even play half of the game to get an early review out.

A good game. Fun to play. A lil bit glichy but not that bad. The main game is good. DLCs were overrated. You won't miss anything if you don't buy DLCs. No replayability, except for completionist.

This game is like this weird shit some random dude wanted from like 3-5 games, and put it together with glue and tape. It's something to play, the story is just some mediocre ass. The characters do some of the most dumbest fucking decisions and have a personality that's just unreal and bland as fuck. The gameplay isn't exactly too bad, but it's not great either. You have the open world idea with liberating some police stations, safe houses, and then all the extra small shit like destroying or doing some minor stuff over and over across every major area. They have an interesting way with what they did to weapons having 3 different type of weapon from a single gun (ie an assault rifle that can be converted to an LMG or grenade launcher. That's about the only interesting part because the rest is generic crap that kinda makes it a game, which makes it an overall okay experience for me. Def would recommend only buying this on a sale

I don't understand a the hate.
It's nothing over the top amazing but it's a fun open world fps with a urban far cry style gameplay.
I like the combat and the traversal through the city to find secret locations. I so wish there was a slower progression system to unlocking the better weapons and upgrades.
Worth a try if it catches your interest.

3 out of 5
Fun, if you like simple things and you don't mind random bugs every now and then. They're not game breaking or anything, as far as I've noticed.

--- if you like reading a lot of random crap ---

It's got an obvious Crysis 2 & 3 feel about it (duh, Cryengine).
The game's reaction to a player's input is somewhat similar to Crysis (just observe how ADS works).
Some other things are the same but that's irrelevant (climbing, picking things up, throwing things, moving around, blowing things up, shooting things, changing a weapon's attachment, using the upgrades menu, interacting with objects, yes, it looks like a modded Crysis). Some weapons feel like reskinned variants of the Crysis ones, but this time you're not just changing their attachments, you're modding the weapons themselves, on the spot, into something entirely different and that's all right, because, you know, it's just a videogame, and it needed something of its own.

I invested some time in it and found it enjoyable. With the right approach you can skip the annoying parts. Use the dirt bikes whenever possible. Don't walk around like a moron if it's not necessary. Choose the right tools for the job. Don't wander too much if you're not the exploring type & if you are don't expect too much from the game because it's not Fallout 4. We didn't expect much from that one either.

It's a more tedious and buggy game, but it's also more complex, which is probably good. Had some fun with it. Everything the people are saying about it is true, more or less. But opinions don't count much vs personal experience. I found that to be true about too many products. The game borrows a lot of ideas from other popular games, and you'll know exactly what when you see it, but it's not done in a stupid manner so it works.

As far as reviews go, don't rely too much on someone else's thoughts on this. Just try it if you're generally interested in gaming & not just on what people think. They're not your family, what have they ever done for you? Most people are dumb, frustrated & not getting help. Get over it. If you're not into experiencing things then you can run to your equivalent of a grandpa's tv. Youtube. And start drooling.

Now for the tweaking part.
I didn't tweak much. I'm lazy.

I found myself messing around with Reshade and Nvidia's overlay filter thingy. Nvidia eventually bugged the game, because of an update or something... totally unreliable. Reshade on the other hand worked just fine. The reason why I used Reshade was to make it easier to see in dark areas, especially at night, because it's annoying like that. Now Nvidia's thing is better at it, but, again, not very stable. If you don't know what you're doing, don't bother with any of them, just turn the brightness up in game. If you're running on AMD, there has to be something for that too. I gave up on them after several really bad experiences with the drivers.

I also used PowerToys, just to be able to bind the 0/zero key (option to holster a weapon) to another key, because it's hardcoded and highly inconvenient, especially for "stealthy" approaches. There's something just as wrong with the V key, which you can rebind but not really. As soon as you look at the smartphone menu in game the V key turns into a Back button.

FOV can be adjusted via the game.cfg file, found usually in C:\Users\Your Actual Username\Saved Games\homefront2 (at least on Win10), along with other options - I personally changed the view models because they didn't feel quite right. I find the standard max FOV a bit nauseating, there's probably also a bit of zoom in from the camera's point of origin. Maybe the camera's too far from the character, who knows, I'm not investigating that anytime soon. The warning here is that any view model change will mess things up for the smartphone menu and laser attachments on weapons, but I could't care less about that.

Now for the actual game.

It's fine.

The DLC?

Not so much. Should've been part of the main game. That's what it feels like. One of them is a prologue. The others just fill bits and pieces after the main game. One of them actually concludes the story, at least that's what it seems. Definitely should've been part of the main game. I don't know, I just bought everything at once, many years after the fact so it doesn't matter anymore, but it's bad practice. Some of it is for Co-op. I don't play Co-op. I don't like modes that force me to rely on dumb, mentally deranged or entitled kids. I don't even think it works, because nobody's online anymore and the game won't let you play without other players. There are achievements tied to that part of the game so that's bad news for completionists. Don't know what to tell you about that one, "manage" them? They're just dumb pointless achievements, not court orders. I don't need essays on those and I would very much like to have the option to permanently remove all of them from the account. But some people love to have them all, so I can't blame them. Other people like to smoke, I can't blame them either. Life's tough.
Anyway.

Do as you please. It's a big world. This is Steam so it's all pointless anyway. Have fun!

Imagine playing Far Cry 3. You like that thougt? Then go play some Far Cry.
This game feels like a quickly botched together Far Cry Copy, with one of the worst stories ive experienced in recent times, wierd gunplay, and mediocre graphics,

The Story: Any Battlefield game has a more interesting Story. I cant stress enough how much this story sucks.

The combat: The game puts a big emphasis on providing a fairly diverse roster of guns that can be adepted to your playstyle... most of them are utter garbage though, just bring the sniper.

Controls: ok on foot, but forget about driving

Charakter development: *SPOILER* There are continuous hints at the MC having a second thoughts and then the game ends in one of the most uninspiring ways imaginable

I bought it hoping for an anti-authoritarian story of resistance, which it kind of is, but in this game it's wrapped in racist Yellow Peril tropes and xenophobia from the start.

Honor Guard

To start ,decent gun handling and such,Crysis styled weapon customization with the ability to swap what the gun does (Example the Assault rifle can become a LMG or Limpet Charge launcher) be it a touch clunky mid combat compared to crysis (a animation for putting on everything after taking the previous off in a game where TTK on you is fairly fast at times)

Fun be it flawed in ways

It's a very solid C+. A great time waster if you like open world(ish) fps games. I genuinely don't understand why people hate it. My only main complaint is that all of the guns in story mode were balanced around them being fully upgraded, meaning you're using underpowered, excessive-recoil weapons from the start and it takes a long time to get them to a good state but that's really the only main concern. The AI is outdated but the game itself is outdated what do you expect.

Muhammad Rifky
Muhammad Rifky

I dunno if I want to recommend this game or not.

Crytek UK/ Dambuster Studio really tried their hardest to make an urban crysis/far cry-style game with this one. The result is a mixed-bag in every aspects. By this point, we already knew the troubled production & release state of Homefront: The Revolution. Playing this game years later really showed of what could have been.

The premise of this entry is quite interesting, but the plot and characters failed to deliver a unique take of rebellion & the consequences of war. The gameplay loop has potential, but once again, it failed with rather uneven experiences & repetitions that quickly gets old.
The use of CryEngine is quite a good choice in term of visual presentation. it can feel like Crysis or Hunt: Showdown at some aspects. On the other hand, I rarely found game-breaking bugs like the ones widely reported during the release. But, AIs are rather dumb & it makes for an unexciting encounter.

If you're okay with a mediocre FPS with good visual & long hours of gameplay to kill some time, then you'll be fine with this (only at a bargain price, of course).

It's very janky. There's an easter egg that lets you play Timesplitters 2 Remastered, so this game is the only way to play it.

Holophone
Holophone

Flawed game with some cool concepts and setting. The environments are fun to explore and pretty atmospheric at times. Reclaiming areas in districts is very rewarding as the resistance gets more populated and even makes traversing easier due to less enemies. The story is okay and what you'd expect but unfortunately you don't really spend a lot of time with the characters which leads to some story moments not having as strong of an impact as they probably should. I encountered minor technical issues such as getting stuck in geometry, enemy AI breaking, overlapping/repeating dialogue and a few crashes. Overall its a good time and clearly ambitious but you can see where the small size of their studio held them back.

I haven't experienced this game on release so I can't comment on that, but we live in an age when patches can actually change the game for the better (or worse). And in it's current state, Homefront: The Revolution seems highly underrated for what it is and what it accomplishes.

This game is a sequel to 2011's Homefront, a game which is regarded as medicore and forgettable. This game is only a sequel in name and the story does not connect with the previous title. Also, the story for this game itself is pretty mediocre with bland and unmemorable characters and is kind of what you'd expect for the game (Country is being invaded by a foreign superpower, let's try and take it back) so I won't really get into that.

Gameplay wise, it can be compared to the later Far Cry games: do some story missions, capture territory, do side missions, buy weapons and upgrades, etc. but there are certainly differences, especially in the "Yellow Zone" territories where stealth is more important. There is also a pretty interesting weapon customization system where you can change your weapon to an alternative weapon at any time (for example the crossbow can be changed to a flamethrower or a shotgun). The territory capture mechanic is also more interesting than in other games. Yes, there are some outposts that can be captured by killing all the enemies in the area, but many of them will have you figuring out a puzzle, doing some platforming on rooftops or finding and collecting items.

While the "America gets conquered by a foreign power" is not an unique concept, it is executed pretty well in this game. The areas you visit are varied and atmospheric, ranging from abandoned toxic ruins to well maintained districts where collaborators live in luxurious apartments amongst skyscrapers or a prison district where the undesirables are kept. The atmosphere is pretty similar to Half-Life 2, Freedom Fighters and even Metro 2033 in some cases.

The game has two types of zones which are "Yellow Zones" and "Red Zones"

Red Zones: These are all out open-world urban guerrilla warfare with Far Cry like elements (although smaller more hand crafted maps with less map marker overload). In these zones you are directly going head to head against the North Korean occupation forces in all out combat. The North Koreans (Or Norks as the game calls them) have superior tech, drones, scanning devices, armored vehicles, etc.

On the higher difficulties, you definitely have to use hit-and-run tactics which makes the whole "resistance fighter" thing feel real. What is super impressive about these zones are the amount of open buildings you can enter and explore/loot/use as cover or snipers nests/etc. I would say probably 90% of the ruined and bombed out buildings are enterable which is crazy. They are all very handcrafted looking as well. Some might be more simple points of interests such as abandoned apartments and stores with a few lootable scraps, and others might be full fledged enemy compounds you can take over and turn into resistance outposts.

Yellow Zones: These zones are very "Deus Ex" style hub zones. Super detailed, and slightly cyberpunk, with high security and KPA presence. Your objective here is to sneak around and sabotage the different enemy outposts and patrols until you increase the "hearts and minds" of the people living in these slums. Once increased, you can kick off what is essentially an insurrection, which then turns the zone into an all out combat area you have to fight through. You can play these zones in pretty much any style, and complete the objectives in any order you want.

I was surprised how these zones almost "out Deux Ex'd" the Deus Ex hub cities in terms of detail and exploration factor.

My favorite thing about this game is the gun customization: Most guns can be completely transformed into two other variations. For example, the pistol can be converted to an SMG or silent steel dart launcher, the rifle can be changed into an LMG or mine launcher. On top of the conversion kits you can buy, you can also buy attachments like scopes with different zoom levels, laser sights, bipods, among others. All of these customizations can be applied out in the field (including the complete conversion kits) with a Crysis like customization menu/system. This mechanic definitely helps convey the feeling of a battle-hardened guerrilla fighter desperate to fight against the oppressors by any means necessary as shown with the makeshift and ramshackle appearances of these weapons and their conversions.

Lastly, the bad things. The gameplay can get monotonous after a while, and the side objectives can be boring and tedious. Some side objectives can also be impossible because enemies stop spawning in areas that you completely conquered. The character animations (both player and NPC) can look janky, and the "parkour" is pretty rough around the edges. Both the friendly and enemy AI can act seriously brain-dead sometimes, but there's nothing that we haven't seen in other open world games. The most annoying thing is the weird spawn/despawn system for enemy group/patrols. A few times enemies spawned right next to me, while other times I tried go around a building to get behind a parked jeep and it despawned when I got there. Those flying drones also sometimes despawn right in front of the player for some reason. There are also many cases of of objects floating in mid-air, and effects not disappearing, for example the light-cones from flashlights and the electric effects from the Heavy Troopers persist even after the dead bodies disappear.

In conclusion, this game could have been so much more if it had a higher budget and a bit of polish, but all-in-all despite the wonkiness and ocassional bugs I've found it an enjoyable and memorable experience, with an intricate and atmospheric setting.
