This game is a nice relaxing but admittedly very short puzzler which I had a lot of fun with. It is not a particularly challenging puzzle game when compared to titles such as the witness but does nonetheless require some systematic thought process from the player especially in the later levels. It is also an easy game to 100% and can be done so within the hour if achievement hunting is of interest to you.

A nice minimalist puzzle game. It was a bit short (I finished it in 60 minutes) but I'll be looking forward to Hook 2!

A lovely puzzle game that fun to play and even more fun to finish. It is a logic game and you won't need a cheat guide or be a genius to solve it. The game is very forgiving and simply restarts a level when you mess up three times. I beat it in an hour and a half. I wish they would add more puzzles or add an achievement to beat the game without making any mistakes.

A very nice and relaxing puzzler, a little challenging in places but once you figured out the mechanics it's a nice, simple game!

Hook is a lovely set of puzzles and mechanics that are very creative, and not very fun. I found myself relatively entertained for a few levels and moderately intrigued by its mechanics, but I really didn't enjoy finishing it. Ultimately, it's a game about solving mazes over and over again, which just isn't that fun.

Which is a shame, because I want to like it. I just don't.

Bought this game for around a dollar and a half and it is well worth it. Very simple concept yet can be challenging in the later levels. Currently there are 60 levels, which took me under 2 hours to complete.

freneticclericgi
freneticclericgi

This is by no means a difficult puzzle game but it is creative. The biggest challenge here is to have the mental discipline to check every path before committing to a decision. The temptation to rush through a puzzle is the only thing that led to failure for me. Just be careful and you will solve all of them. I am happy I played through this game.

31_Repeats
31_Repeats

Normally I do not like these short puzzle games centered around one main mechanic. Hook is an exception.

I think the reason for this is that there is no "idiot-proofing" that these short games have, where you can "try moving this piece and see what happens". Each attempt at unlocking a piece is a commitment, where too many mistakes will cause you to lose your progress and restart the level. How well do you trust yourself that the modifications you have made only affect the piece(s) you are targeting?

Overall, I'd give a 2-3 out of 10 for difficulty. It's a methodical, linear puzzler, which you can take the liberty to sit back and play at your own pace.

As a suggestion to improve the game, I think it would add interest if there were some incentive to optimize how number of clicks used to clear a stage, perhaps as a 1-3 star rating awarded for each level. As it stands, there's no reason to revisit any levels.

Very good game! It's a simple, relaxing game, though depending on how good you are at puzzles, it can be challenging. It took my around an hour start to finish with some breaks between each level. For a dollar, it's really good! There are 50 levels, that progressively get a bit harder. If you want to relax, and need something simple to get your mind off things, this is a very good option!

Good: Minimal but satisfactory gfx and audio. Great puzzle, lets you solve interconnected locks (are they ?)
Bad: Short, short, short :( . Yeah, it is cheap but price-per-hour is not so great. Only a few complex designs, which are made easier further with the three retries
Verdict: 8. Must-experience for puzzle fans if you are OK with the short playtime

all this guy's games are solid, but short. the puzzles are pretty low-stress, and clearing those in Hook with no mess-ups makes for a satisfying little bit of concentration time. i probably sound crazy, but i'm really just hella tired right now and wanted to drop a thumbs-up for my fave indie puzzle guy. get the whole bundle he offers! you won't regret it, but you also probably won't spend more than 7-8 hours finishing them all.

Njamster
Njamster

Recommended if you're looking for a chill, hour-long experience. The game looks and feels great, but its mechanic is rather limited: all you'll ever really do is looking for the one hook that isn't currently blocked and follow its line back to a button to pull it in. Later stages aren't harder, just bigger and busier. So if you're looking for an actual PUZZLE game to challenge you intellectually, this won't be it. You'll never feel clever about solving a level here, it's all pretty straightforward.

Fantastic game. I come back to play it every now and then. Super stress reliever.

I sincerely hope that in the new update there will be the option to turn off the music! I can't quite believe they lock you in the game with no control over sound. No menus or anything. I want to listen to my music as I play. Exasperating.

Well, I'm hooked!

Dad jokes aside, it's a good relaxing game worth about 1.5 to 2 hours of your time. It is more of a relaxation game than a puzzle game as it's rather easy and not punishing, but that's okay! The good ambient background noise, following the switches in the circuit to the next unobstructed hook(s) over and over, it's a great way to de-stress. And it recently was updated with 10 new levels, a dark mode that seems easier on the eyes, and more levels coming soon! A great bargain bin pick-up overall.

I played this game a long time ago and it was a simple logic game that didn't take too long to finish. And I still liked it and played it multiple times through. In the new update the levels are tougher than the ones before and it makes the game even better.
Its worth the money if you like to play puzzle games to kill some time.

annemarie11967
annemarie11967

This is a great logic game. You have to figure out the proper order to remove the lines and mentally untangle them to get it done. It's not real long, but cheap and the developer randomly adds new levels and improvements for free. Totally worth it. It's complex enough that you don't remember the answers to the puzzles so you can go back every few months and replay it and have to figure it out like it's a new puzzle.

Decided to pick this up after playing the Hook 2 demo in Next Fest, it's a short but challenging and fulfilling puzzle game with simple rules which gradually make for chaotic fields of interwoven wires, buttons, and switches. The levels look great too, 50 through 60 radiate Jazzpunk concept art energy.

Dahlvik

Maciej Targoni's puzzle games are spectacular hits, guiding you into each new mechanic but generally leaving you to sort out how their effects interact and what order to put the right steps in. Hook is no different, giving you a range of actions and methods to clear the board but allowing no such progress until the continuity of the puzzle is realized through either experimentation or imagination. A great challenge with little enough else going on that it's both engaging and relaxing, a theme that backs the success of this developers games in general.

Lotus 07

"Hook" is a simple, yet beyond creative, sophisticated and entertaining puzzle game. The game-play is very straight-forward: You win by pressing buttons to withdraw all the Hooks without making them clash into one another. As you level up, there are more interesting in-game mechanics and challenging level designs. For instance, there are remotely-controlled hook (basically similar to the real-life Bluetooth).

My immediate pick-up from game-play is that I actually feel better and more entertained as I proceed throughout the game. The higher game levels can be incredibly challenging, but it never stops adding more excitement.

With all that said, I'm extremely satisfied and happy with "Hook". I hope to bump into more titles similar to this, either by the same developer or by others. If anyone has any recommendations, they'd be much appreciated.

My thanks to the dev.

You know those mobile ads were you clearly tug on the gate to drop lava on the monster or get the person to the gold? This is that game with minimalism and a decent series of puzzles to solve on top of that. Didn't take long to get through the levels but the difficulty does increase.

Cam The Man
Cam The Man

Great logic puzzle game, but the difficulty curve is literally vertical towards the end game. The later puzzles become really tedious, yet also rewarding to solve. I only really got stumped on 1 level in the entire game out of 60 (being lvl 49). Took me around 3 hours to beat more or less (some of my playtime was me afk).

Regardless, this is a fun game, definitely worth your time and money if you like puzzle games.

Ignoring My playtime I beat this game in just under two hours mostly because I wanted to beat the levels with zero mistakes, This game as it stands has 60 level with possibly more coming, and was a childhood game of mine since it started as a flash game, The levels start of easy and get harder as expected slowly introducing new game mechanics. and even though the later levels start to feel slower thats simply because the game is meant to be a slow puzzle game where you have to pay attention to the map and the chain reactions that will happen. as it stands there is really nothing bad with the game even with the later levels where you can make mistakes you are given multiple chances, and unlike many puzzle games where a level resets you never feel like you can brute force a puzzle just because you got part way and failed.
The only downside I can even think of is the fact that if you are good at puzzles you may have to let the game idle for a bit just to allow yourself to get the point shop items but even then the game feels like an hour and a half game which is pretty good.

Goal 'Unhook' every hook on the board to advance to the next level without making a certain amount of mistakes depending on the level
Experience In addition of being a puzzle fan, I played the Apple iPad version of the game when it was pricedropped to free at one point in the past, with one major difference being 10 new levels, from level 51 through level 60
Setup Played it in borderless fullscreen as the game's default settings; no graphic settings since it's a relatively simple video game
Content 60 levels of increasingly difficult yet engaging levels to go through, with the former half of it introducing new game mechanics and the latter half gets more difficult, encouraging patience on looking out ways to progress
Endgame Finshing the 60th level in order to get the Steam achievement, "Hooked" with the description saying "Finished all levels!"
Bought 2022 Steam Summer Sale, bought the Relaxing Puzzle Box bundle, which includes this game for $8.99 altogether (originally costing 14.91$ but got it at a 40% discount of 6.02$)
Playtime About 1.3 hours (mine says "1.4 hrs on record" but I time how much I played per ten levels, which is more accurate):

    • Level 1-10 for 1.5 minutes
    • Level 11-20 for 3 minutes
    • Level 21-30 for 4 minutes
    • Level 31-40 for 11 minutes
    • Level 41-50 for 31.5 minutes
    • And level 51-60 for 27 minutes

My positives

Overall chill atmosphere of being in an abstract environment where there's no annoyances, feels good, especially playing through the game.

My negatives

The only negative I can think of is that the solid circle with an 'i' button from the options menu opens up the video game maker's website instead of a prompt to confirm the action; I'm aware that this is an additional way for the user to check out more of the game maker's games not only made on the Apple iPad but PC games released on Steam, it's a bit a surprise for me when clicking since I thought it was the credits button on who made this game and maybe what version this game is since it has updated recently with new levels. The only reason I say this is if at one point the website has expired or worse, it may get cybersquatted or redirect said link to somewhere else potentially bad, this minor annoyance may get more unpleasant.

My eehs/neutral feelings

There's the option to use dark mode, inverting the light and dark colors from the default light mode; I tried it for a level or two, but mainly because I was accustomed to playing the game before on the Apple iPad, it feels a bit too out of place for my tastes. Definitely good for those that prefer using this or wanted it. Fortunately I have a feeling it won't be when I play Hook 2, assuming if it has this same feature.
You can only navigate through finished levels from before or later with the two arrow buttons one number at a time; currently it doesn't matter too much when it's just 60 levels so far, but if the developer says they're planning to add more levels in the future as per the "About This Game" section of the store page, this may be a problem over time.
The steam achievement "Hooked" is only given when finishing all levels (which is currently 60 levels, previously only 50 levels); this makes it longer for new players to complete the game, but also may disincentivize players that already have the achievement when they finished the 50 original levels to check out the new levels; currently because of the way this Steam achievement is set up, there is no way to tell which users were given achievements for the original 50 levels and who finished 60 levels. I didn't really mind much when I got the Steam achievement myself for finishing 60 levels, but others wanting to know this should be informed. If the creator continue to add more levels as part the "About This Game" section of the store page, this is something they may have to think about for both types of users who own the game.

Overall, even though it is a short game, I felt pretty satisfied replaying through the game but on my Windows desktop computer since I played it on my Apple iPad, even though I miss the portability factor of pressing the buttons on the touch screen to perform the unhooking, such a chill game.

Skwiggily

Great little puzzle game that, like many, takes a super simple concept and stretches it really far. Lots of interesting albeit "brain CPU maxing" puzzles that can be fun to solve in short bursts. Looking forward to the sequel and what it brings.

Only thing I would inform you before playing this game is there is a 3-strike life system on every puzzle where each time you mess up you lose a life. Lose all your lives and the puzzle fully resets back to the beginning. This can feel insanely defeating on later puzzles that take a lot of time to figure out, so if you really hate having to backtrack minutes at a time, this isn't the puzzle game for you.
