Could not play the game. It would only load to 1/4 of my screeen. I have a 24 in 4k monitor. I switched the size in options to every single size option, and the biggest it got was top left 1/4. Save you money and get a good game.

This game does simply not work on most modern computers. Especially computers that have a Nvidia graphic card, apparently. I have spent about 2-3 hours searching the web for solutions, but I could find no one that works. There is a Nvidia Modd that say it could make Industry Giant II work, but I was not so lucky.

Buy at your own risk. Nvidia owners beware!

Gosh, I still have the original CD of this game but I couldn't make it work on Windows 7.
I used to play this game on my older PC and I have very good memories about it.
I thought this steam edition was gonna be buggy as hell, like most of old games on steam but it actually works great on my pc, in 1080p. I'm so happy I can go back playing this classic

Good to see old game back to me again..
The gameplay is still good, however two issues:

First, some of the in-game descriptors are corrupted, including the name of your saves. When I was young I struggled to understand which icon is goods-in and goods-out in the depot, and now I even can't tell the two from the descritors because they are corrupted. Also you have to save files in different lengths of names so that you won't get confused about which is which..

Also, the fonts in game(especially item wiki) are too small. When I was a kid and I played the non-English version it was still acceptable, but now... it just hurts my eyes so bad.

Finally, is there a chance we can see the information age dlc on Steam one day?

One of the most satisfying games I have played in my life, no joke. Strikes the perfect balance of challenge and reward, superb crisp visual and audiotory design that tells you what you need to know.

Well i had big hopes originally for this game, i wanted it for a while and when i saw it recently on discount, i just had to purcahse it.
But sadly as good as this game looks, it just isnt compatible with modern graphic cards and monitors.
I have a 2k monitor and this game just isnt suited to it, i tried many settings and i just cant get a decent picture, i feel let down actually as i wanted this for so long, but now i have no option but to request a refund as the game is not playable for my pc. Its ok if you have an old or average rating monitor and card but for the very high spec pc monitor there isnt a setting for it. Big shame that is.

Steam should have a nuetral catigory. That's what I'd rate it, because for some, it's a good game, but for others like me it isn't. If you like micro-managing business & industry, you'll probably like it. But if you want a good transport game, it isn't. In this game you build a store, then a warehouse, then a farm factory, then resourse mines, then mills, then factories, then warehouses again. The only reason to build transport is to go from warehouse to warehouse. Then you track & change mining, production, & price, constanly adjusting each. I'd like a transport game that has realistic maps & cities, like that of the USA, or Europe. I'd like to buid factories, but don't want to manage them. Sounds like RT3 & Rail Emp. But they only have trains. Transport Fevor is good, but hasn't realistic maps or towns that grow much. So until someone makes a better tramsport game, I'd stick with one of these, tho I think Rail Emp is too expensive & has too many rediculously high goals to succeed.

Really solid management/business game with a heavy micromanagement focus where you can invest in tons of products from a wide range of industries. You need to adapt to emerging markets (not every industry or product is available at the very start) and changing world (weather, oil prices, world economy) to stay in the game. You need to carefully plan your supply chains and optimize your production by analysing demand/supply statistics and patterns while keeping an eye on your AI competitors (optionally). The game has a really high replayability value and the learning curve is not too steep thanks to nice tutorials. Do not expect high end graphics though, the focus is definitely not there. I would prefer better AI, but your AI competitors may still give you some challenge early on. Highly recommended if you are interested in an industrial business simulation, real gem that deserves a genuine praise, two thumbs up!

I haven't had any technical issues on Windows 10 with a 2 gig video card, so I don't know what others are talking about.

What I do have an issue with is the cumbersome transportation system which becomes more and more of a seriously major issue as the game progresses.

There is no way to just automate vehicles to pick up anything from a depot connected to a warehouse since all vehicles need specific cargo assignments. This becomes extremely frustrating when you're growing multiple crops in different harvest seasons, or you have multiple supply chains like eggs, meat, and milk together and want to add something like glass or plastics and redundant produce to bottle produce at a processing plant. You could just buy more trucks or trains, but then, you'll end up with vehicles sitting around doing nothing.

This results in a ton of wasted time while pausing and unpausing the game to regularly change vehicle schedules, and it gets even worse when you have literally hundreds of vehicles perusing dozens of depots on the map. Ships and harbors make this even worse since they go far slower, so you have to manually and mentally keep track of all your vehicles. One slip up results in an overloaded warehouse somewhere which you can easily forget.

(The inefficient solution to this is divide your production facility's output by months in the year, and that's how many cargo units you need to regularly assign subject to distance, but all supply chains in the game aren't equal, so there will come a point where you want to regularly assign vehicles to multiple chains at once to get the most cargo value per vehicle.

The game kind of skimps around this by avoiding expiration dates such that cargo can't go rotten, but that still doesn't help optimize logistics.)

It's a fun concept, but a simple "click and drag" option over your vehicles and a generic, "pick anything up" option would have helped a lot. The game even has customized warehouses that will accept or reject certain cargo, so this shouldn't have been difficult to program...

...and even if you don't mind this micromanagement, there's still a massive land management problem. Most maps are nowhere close to large enough to handle your transportation demands once you get 25 years into the game. You'll have layers of warehouse circles shipping between themselves just to sell every possible item in your stores, and cities aren't big enough to accommodate all your stores either. The more you build commercially, the less residences around to buy what you're selling. Cities are way too small relative to the size of stores.

It might be old but it's still damn good and can really hold it's own alongside some of the newer games of the same ilk. Worth the outlay even at the stated price but even more so when it's on sale.

Its not only the best industry game.....it's also the only industry game. Close seconds go to, Railroad Empire, Planet coaster, Factorio...but in essence, this type of "choose which market you want to be in" is unique. More of this please. It's a genre that needs expanding.
Recommending not only for posterity, but also in hopes of other devs making newer revamped versions of this game.

Welcome to placing trains in a thrilling exciting ECONOMICAL fashion. Place a train from your storage, to.... ANOTHER STORAGE!! watch as the item gets driven in a adrenaline pumping 25km/h and then... RETURN!
Place more trains!!
Add more storages!!!
Feel the madness of trains and storages!
Customize your trains with various content, such as GOLD! or TRICYCLES! or if youre really really mad: BREAD!

Do this all in win95 graphics rebranded as RETRO as you see a 4 pixel bird flap by for no apparent reason and cars drive back and forth for no apparent reason. Your eyes will bleed, of excitement!

Maybe I didn't give it enough time, but it seems that I have seen most of the game's mechanics. The core gameplay (as in, where you make decisions that influence things) is mostly about clunky logistics (unrealistic and inconvenient 'load this item in this slot and go to that place, where you should have 2 of this item and one of that and then drop off the rest there'), lots of warehouses that you struggle to build within range of simulatenously a few of your factories and a shop or two, mostly to decrease your own micromanagement than to significantly increase profits.

And the main thing is the manual calculation of 'two units of iron make two units of steel and that allows a factory to make one unit of some home appliance'. The latter is complicated by demand not matching supply most of the time, which can be adjusted by discrete settings of factory utilization (produce at 25%, 50%, 75%, etc. of total production capacity) and prices in your shops which also go as 50%, 60%, ..., 150% which more or less scale in such a way that you are either getting the same amount of revenue as at a 100%, or are getting less profit than you could if you didn't touch any store settings. And if you mess up in assigning a proper number of transport to carry your stuff around, or in choosing a proper production rate here and there (which you inevitably will, since it has to be done manually and then you just often can't match the numbers), warehouses will start overflowing and all sorts of micromanagement problems will arise from that.

Profit margins are huge, unless I didn't understand the way UI shows the calculations (most graphs and data are not very helpful, the global ones showing total profits instead of per-unit, so you probably won't get much help from looking at them).

Basically, I didn't feel like this game has much (or any) room for creativity or making interesting calculations and learning something about markets, production or optimization problems. More like a simple, but dull shuffling of numbers around. It neither seems like an enjoyable logistics game, nor a proper business simulation game. More like a clicker where you need to do some basic calculations to know where to click.

It does have some charm, though, but I expected much more from reading other reviews.

Good game for it's time and genre. Depending on your interests you may find this an entertaining diversion, but be forewarned that it is much more shallow than other business/transport sims.

It's one part Transport Tycoon, and one part Capitalism. But it lacks the depth of either of those games.

For instance: It has the "Catchment" system of TT, using areas to capture materials into transport or warehouses, and it has the production factories and stores of C2. But the Catchment is so wide and permissive that a factory can deliver it's goods to another factory with a well spaced warehouse in between. Repeat this to sprawl all the way to your retail destination, from the natural resource, never needing a vehicle for delivery at all.

The factories themselves can only produce up to one product at a time, so you need a separate factory for every piece of an end product. You have no influence over the cost of the base materials, so your product costs are entirely fixed. Don't expect a production line sim here, it's more of a basic puzzle game.

All that said, if you like building trains and making truck routes and are willing to roleplay, instead of taking advantage of the games overly generous rules, you can still make a neat business empire that services a sprawling city, through a network of vehicles. It will take a little effort on your part to impose your own rules, however.

thang.tc

An out of date game which lacks of Quality of Life features and uninteresting train system, not industrial system as the title advised. There is no keyboard shortcut and the game itself is already micro-management intensive. The background sound drives me crazy and is prone to cause heart-attack due to the over-tuned volume of car horn (as loud as a car is running behind you) or a sawmill cutting sound (x3 bigger than UI sound). The transport vehicles are like joke, they claim to run 70 mph yet it takes the whole year to move goods from left to right border, which I believe it's as long as half of the globe in real life.

Great older game, runs on really any hardware and keeps me playing for hours. It can be complicated whilst you are getting used to it but it's worth spending time to learn it. Campaign mode is where it shines, it gives goals like build a company worth 20 million in 5 years, which takes planning. You have to work out all production and transport of items and keep up with demand whilst being careful not to overproduce too. Its very challenging and good fun.

Having only recently purchased Industry Giant II on Steam (I originally bought the title back when PC games were still sold in boxes), I am astounded at how well the title has held up. Sure, the graphics are a little dated, and the UI needs some improvement, but the core of the game is still unbelievably solid. If you have a little patience for handling the flaws of older games, I highly recommend Industry Giant II. Let's hope that the rumors of a third title are well-founded, as it would be truly wonderful to see this short-lived franchise revitalized.

I really enjoy this game. This seems to be the grandfather of Rise of Industry, which I also like. This one focuses a bit more on transportation than RoI though. Learning curve is a bit steep (definitely need to play the tutorials) but once you get the hang of it you're good to go. Only issue I have had is the occasional deadlock with trains- sucks to have to delete an expensive train or three to untangle the traffic, but that's the fix.

One of the gothfathers of transport management games. Think of Rise of Industries, but about 20 years ago.

It has some simularities with OTT and Transport Fever, but all in it's own timeframe, and you have to build your own industries.

Anyways, If you like those games, and want to try an old game for a few buks, this game is not dissapointing!

::EDIT:: In campaign maps once i complete the 1st map in the campaign the 2nd map becomes unusable and When trying to build it will not let me place the building down i think it needs looking at because some achievements are tied into those campaigns.

I Loved this game back in the day a nice time filler puzzlestratpoly game and a genre grandfather (show it respect) i still have the original disc but as from windows 7 it stopped installing so i gave up trying :(

Then i saw it was on here but had issues so i stayed away as to not get my hopes up ...but kept an eye on it.
Then yesterday saw it on sale (£1.84) and re read some reviews that the game was now fully working on windows 10 via steam ... and it does!

Just going to start a huge map up now and see whats cracking, any faults ill feed here hopefully none will be spoken of .

DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review

Industry Giant 2 is a game developed by Fancy Bytes and Reactor and published by UIG Entertainment/Toplitz Productions

The game offers some really nice graphics and a nice yet simplistic aesthetic which is pleasant all the same and has some amazing attention to detail even though it is a little rough around the edges

The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nonetheless and ends just at the right time

Industry Giant overall, however, is an okay game to play, yet sometimes repetitive and it does get boring if being played for a long time, but is an okay simulation sandbox game to play in short bursts!

RECOMMENDED :)

At its core, this is a pretty decent game. It could have been really good if they had bothered to finish it. In its current state, it plays like an early beta.

The base game concept is great, but everything around it is not:
* No keybind settings
* Settings don't work or changing them makes the game crash (sound)
* Settings reset when you start a new mission
* Speed controls exist, but you have to Google to find out where they are as there is no UI
* Controlling vehicle routes is very tedious as you can't copy settings from one vehicle to another

Still, if you can get around all the lack of effort they put into finishing the game, you should be able to get a couple dozen hours out of this.

I have actually bought this game several times, 2 physical and one digital. I enjoy the strategy behind it. Some of the micromanagement could be a bit easier.

Smilinglyer

Fun production/supply/transportation game. Definitely has some flaws that could have been addressed by devs. I tweaked the config file a lot to make game more enjoyable. Airports are the dumbest tho, only one plain can take off or land at one time and only two planes can be in airport loading at same time so your other plains just circle around airport until they crash from not enough maintenance. I don't understand how the devs couldn't add another runway or allow the airport to be upgraded later. The crappy airports kinda ruin the gameplay honestly.
Edit after playing for a LONG time i have a game breaking bug; game crashes after building to much stuff, i think the max ram used for game is 6megs and after you surpass it the game will crash. So after many hours i can no longer play my map. BUMMER

Resources. Cities. Supply and demand. Varied transportation options. (Goods and perishables.) Engrossing game to while away a few hours. Cities grow over time and the amounts of supply change, requiring tweaking of the transport network to satisfy the demand. A few years old but still highly playable

I owned many versions of this game and its great, but this one, while being the newest version, is bugged. The developers say they work on fixes for years, but my problem persists, i assume some textures are not loading, so you cant see settings in the menu and the game is half black, like all grass etc is black.

edit: now the graphics are fixed and it works but I have a new bug, now i cant switch off the music for some reason it crashes if you set music and sound to 0. how even...
But thats only a 'small' problem so I change my review to recommended

An absolute gem of a game that has stood the test of time.

Industry Giant 2 is a logistic management game about turning raw materials into finished goods to sell in shops across each map. The main challenges are ensuring you keep your set up costs low early on and ensure your distribution chain doesn’t get clogged up when demand/production steps up.

The game is pretty good at teaching you the ropes through 3 tutorials and the easy campaign, but things quickly get more complicated! Visually the game holds up as long as you don’t zoom in too far, which usually you won’t be.

In terms of performance and issues about modern hardware/software compatibility I didn’t have any major issues. The only minor issue was quickly fixed by disabling the steam inlay. Of course your experience may vary.

For a game that can be about how many potatoes you can sell this year, it's oddly compulsive. It't be educational too - showing just how complex you need to make a transport system to feed a hungry city! Without going bankrupt trying.

A game I was only able to play, not understand, as a child, Industry Giant 2 offers a peaceful RTS experience all fans of the genre can enjoy. Even without combat, there is still an intellectual challenge offered in-game as you as the player must manage resources correctly to complete campaigns or when playing against an AI opponent in Endless mode. I also recommend this classic to those of whom would like to learn more about industry as whole. Some techniques and information might be outdated by today's standards, but IG2 still offers a rich amount of information to learn from.

This game has been vastly improved since it was just a computer disc based game by JoWood. I used to keep an old computer around just to be able to play it glitch free. Fun game if you like these kinds of games, one track sound track gets old fast.

Classic game, wish there was a modern sequel. Transport fever would be a good model for the graphics and transport side of it. Shame transport fever 2 is simplified and therefore worse.

Get this if you like logistics/industry games OR if you like tycoon games.
Gist of the game is that you build industry to exploit resources, setup logistics to ship goods and then sell the goods in shops you own that you build in cities. Bigger cities = more diverse and stronger demand.
Some goods are production -> market. Other goods are resource extraction -> refinement -> production -> production combining with other production -> final production -> market. Most goods have maybe one or two steps, when many goods are available there can be a huge variety of interlocking industries.

It's like playing a puzzle at times in the campaign, where you need to make some very interesting choices. One map in particular (red islands) is notable for train transport being a lot cheaper than ships, so you find yourself minimising ship travel then shipping goods long distances over land by the shay or electric train. The easy campaign is effectively a tutorial because it's a joke how easy it is, whereas the hard campaign can be genuinely difficult at times.

Not a fan of the endless maps but I'd love to give MP a try if anyone's interested.

this is a great game, though its old has some great features that new ones are missing... for starters.. great campaigns, i dont know why almost all tycoon games now a days are missing campaigns. but industry giant has amazing varied ones, that can be challenging and others just for fun.

the interface is old and doesnt run as smood as i would like, and could benefit from some features, as an undo button, to fix the missclicks that sometimes can be really expensive and can cost you a game.

but appart from that a hell of a lot of fun, great game.

Bought this game for the third time (2 times on discs, standard and golden edition). I had a hope that this one would be a fixed version... But no, there are still graphical glitches: ingame texts glitches frequently that it cannot be read; textures glitch a lot; no LoD, so when zoomed out it's slows down.

Generally great project but written just to work, slighty polished for Steam re-release...

This is one of my favourite games of all time. I've played through it on four separate occasions, and I'm sure there will be a fifth. As of April 2022, the version you are getting on Steam is the upgraded Gold edition with all the additional content.

The "hard" campaign is a challenge, particularly "Northern Sund" and "Christmas Bay". If you like old school management sim games which are not a walkover, then this is highly recommended.

lean1fr
lean1fr

Maybe I'm not playing this right, but it was way too much micro management. Even at full speed, some of the campaign scenarios take 2.5+ hours and you spend it just watching your warehouses and shops to see what ressourrces go too scarce and adjusting production/delivery accordingly. It's kinda tiring.
Worst is that most of the time you can't tell if you're on the right track to fulfill the win condition or not, until 3/4th of the campaign time has elapsed and then having invested hours already the only sane options is to try to fix your process rather than restart, and it's very annoying to end a 3 hours campaign with 16 milion dollars when the goal was 20 millions. Really tests your patience... Do that a couple times and you'll understand why I stopped playing.

Other major problem is that you can't buy transformed materials. You have to setup the whole industrial process from harvesting the bare materials to the shop.
So let's say you want to sell toothbrushes, you have to build : oil rig to pump out oil, chemical factory to turn the oil into plastics, two other factories to create the nylon out of nature, factory to put nylon and plastic together and create the toothbrushes, transportation terminal, roads, city terminal and warehouses, and the shops that sell the products! All those buildings are under your control and you're tasked to make a profit out of this. Don't get me started on the process to make clothes! You have to farm the wool(sheep) or cotton(farm) and transform them to create even more refined fabric, and then factories to create the actual clothes. It's completely crazy. Especially since you have to start from the end, by selecting the product you want to sell and then seing the materials necessary.
It is very counter intuitive and absolutely not how real businesses work You would expect to buy the plastic from a third party for example. It makes it practically impossible to diversify your production since you can only afford to build a limited number of buildings, and a limited number of shop types, so you have to specialize yourself into some bare materials and not others.
so you'll generally end up specializing in a low transformation product that can be sold and transformed at the same time (paper, newspaper and agendas for example)

Also: the game is very old and wont work on new machines with large screens or high resolutions.
And don't play this if you're an environmentalist since you spend the whole time destroying nature to put up ugly buildings. You're guaranteed to get triggered.

It's a pity because the game has some charm to it, and the attention to detail is astonishing. Especially the historical evolutions and all the little details in the map.
