Good, solid, game. Has its flaws - - at some point you need to grind for the resources and that is a bit annoying for me. But in general finished it 2 times for the past 3 years. And planing to re-play again soon :)
I have 55 hours into this game as of this review and I truly enjoyed this flawed game BUT it has stopped working on newer machines. The developer has posted a work around but I personally feel that I should not have to modify any files on my machine to get a game to work.
If your product cannot handle multi core processing then modify its code.
Unacceptable in this day and age.
food and water in this game is broken at this time
worth to get it while on sales. nice game.
This game is a slasher!
By that I mean that this game is good / bad
On the one hand, it is a good base management game with overworld map scavenging. The concept is a good one but there are a lot of flaws that I feel that can't be overcome.
First of all the scavenging. Around your base, you go chop down trees and forage for stuff and mine rocks. This is the same for the overworld scouting. However, those goods dry up and you have to go farther and farther out the map. This is good / bad as you have to go out farther taking more time out to discover the map. However, the map just becomes barren leaving literally nothing behind. It feels hollowed out and empty. I suppose this is no different than what would actually happen in life but as a game, it feels... boring.
The fights are easy / hard. Once you get enough ranged however, the melee combat is only nice once certain monsters make it past your ranged attacks. The fights are very simple to play out as well. It is a real time combat using a cover system. This sounds all good until you actually play it and the system becomes cumbersome and repetitive. Auto resolving battles seems like a good idea until you realize that all it does is remove the hp from 1 person at a time... which is a bit stupid. Even fights that I know I would win easily if I had played it out myself, my 1 person wouldn't get hurt so bad.
Overall I feel that this game has some good ideas but needed better execution.
Fun game to play. They've done a good job on managing the increasing difficulty, starts off easy then it gets harder and finishing the game is a challenge but felt rewarding. Similar games become easy after stabilising the resources. Rituals add a nice touch and there is a good variation of items/builds for characters.
An awesome horror survival game.
Played Sandbox Mode and love this game. sandbox is easiest mode ie. lots of resources and easy enemies.
I wholeheartedly recommend this game. easy to use UI and fun graphics.
You have a choice to fight battles manually or automatically. Crafting and Building are simple to manage. You can even assign tasks to each person auto or manually.
You have non-animated interactions with travelling peddlers which allows you to sell and buy items.
You receive messages of person(s) in trouble and send a party out to rescue them. they may then join your survivors. Using the world map view you may select other Points-Of-Interest to raid / visit. LMB = info about POI and RMB = move party to POI. The map seems small, but the way you can send out raid/rescue parties makes the playing field much larger.
Give it a try and ENJOY.
Being unable to customize your starting crew hurts so much. There are no mods which offer this support. I want to love this game, but it's hard.
this game is quite nice although it lacks polish and i can't shake the feeling that the base game falls short on the content side of things.
its a pretty niche twist on the gritty hardcore survival genre
the only reason why i don't reccomend this game as every time i play it i just feel like rimworld just does it better in every aspect.
difficulty is just insane unplayable without modding.
This game is cool.
The mechanics are very similar to RimWorld, but it's set in a post-apocalyptic world that is suffering from a Demon invasion. You are still managing a small settlement, building up for the events that will come, ans sending expeditions out on road trips to secure things for your people.
I'm just scratching the surface of researching occult rituals to help deal with the Demon threat. Very worth the $10.
This is a game that I would have enjoyed more if I had not yet played Kenshi.
The base management is similar to Kenshi with building, crafting, research and management.
The combat is quite different thank Kenshi, not better or worse, just done in it's own way.
The area where Kenshi wins, is the open 3d world with vast areas to explore.
If you like this type of game, you will likely enjoy it.
It is very easy to lose track of time and wind up playing this game for hours. I like finding survivors to add too your team. I like the creative weapons and building my base.. A great game for your Steam library.
Amazing hidden gem.
We need more updates, support or workshop.
this game its a great buy.
Somewhat decent colony sim even tho the fights get pretty hard even before you can get your hands on better gear.
Played on Origin.
Overall a very fun game. Reminded me of Fallout.
Mainly CRPG/tactics but also with a base-building/time-management/slight tower defense aspect. You will eventually have ... quite a few workers. More than any RPG party I've ever had. ;)
Rough in some spots though. Lots of mechanics and graphics on the verge of being "too simple", and definitely has its grindy aspects at a level that makes u wonder if the dev ever really played it all the way thru ;P, but it all comes together in a pretty nice package and I do not hesitate to recommend, at least on sale.
I liked the theme of having both Science and Occult research .. what that implies for the game world. (It's basically a "Doom" scenario where demons have taken over the earth.) I've read a few SFF works where it's like "welp, the world is magic now .. guess we better figure out how to be mages" and this touches on that. To your left we have our carrot garden and to the right our arcane ritual altar. And maybe you have a person who happens to be good at both farming and occult rituals and is endlessly running back and forth between the two! ;) (So yeah build them close together! :P)
Pretty sure dev has ceased at this point so that's a bummer but I'm glad I played it.
You have been Warned very Addictive 😁
An excellent survival simulation very akin to Rimworld. You follow the same path of researching/building/crafting/fending off raids etc. as you explore the map in a demonic apocalypse. The tech trees are surprisingly extensive and the pacing of new unlocks and challenging encounters is super satisfying. There is a campaign mode, an endless survival mode & a desert survival mode on top of two different difficulty settings.. overall I highly recommend this one as its a genuine diamond in the rough
The game was interesting at first.
I like a good challenge sometimes in a management, survival game.. but certain enemies that nearly one hit you
making you lose valuable survivors and slowing progress a LOT and OFTEN can be frustrating.
Not to mention research is often blocked by rarer crafting items that can be obtained by killing certain Demons.
The game isn't early access or anything, but something about the atmosphere of the game feels off..or maybe unpolished.
I did enjoy the easy to use management of the survivors while in the home area, building was straightforward and easy to craft and place buildings.
It's a "maybe" more than a no.
If you are not willing to suffer a lot of restarting games, failing and learning you probably won't like this one.
If you do enjoy a trial and error, challenging, sometimes frustrating game you might actually put 40+ hours into this
at some point of the game your upgrades won't be good enough to fight your enemies for a casual player
cool concept but seems very bare bones. it legit looks and plays like a lame mobile game ad. getting tired of all the sub par games. like minimal effort seems to be going into games these days. nothing tries to actually grab your attention anymore. when i want to be bored and tired i play this game.
Rough around the edges in graphics and UI wise, but a fun little game for the price. Would like to see a bit more polish and basic features added. Early game buildable walls and doors would be nice, instead of blocking off areas with buildings.
It's a generic and poorly done survival simulator. If you really want to know my gripes: It's unbalanced, overly simplified, and feels like it's still in beta.
It's a great, and complex, 2D survival game that requires some real strategy. The 2D graphics serve this game well, and don't detract from the gameplay. It also has magical and supernatural abilities mixed in with it, so quite rewarding to play and setup a bad ass base.
Highly recommended. I rarely write reviews but this one is worthy of that honor.
"What a great game!" That thought keeps popping up in my brain so I think I better do a quick review. The gameplay loop, the music, the sound design, the animation, the wonderful artwork all well thought out and implemented with TLC.
The well described difficulty is highly customizable to suit your play style.
Much of the game can also be easily modded to your hearts content.
Cannot think of a game that would kick Judgment: Apocalypse Survival Simulation off my desert island list.
Highly recommended!
I played this game for several hour - in the beginning it was quite fun, however after some progress it became rather annoying:
Pros:
+ Base building is quite fun. Collect materials, construct buildings, craft food and items, do research (many reviews are at odds with the 'reasarch gates', special items that have to be gathered in looting expeditions, otherwise you get stuck at a certain point in research. From my point of view that's no big deal since these materials can be looted with resonable effort)
Cons:
- For me, the crappy and frustrating fighting system really breaks the game. Once a single team member has been spotted, the group of enemies suddenly knows the exact location of any of your team members on the map. It's not like they start searching, they simply rush until their or your group has been extinct. Character movement/shooting/item usage in battle is indolent, which is a huge problem due to the fragility of your survivors. Almost all enemies move faster than your own survivors, so there is no hit-and-run tactics
- The game suggests tactical options that actually do not exist: For instance, hiding behind sand bags reduces the chance to be hit by 40%, which actually does not really matter since from midgame most enemies have like 130%(!) chance to hit or a bigger range. You can equip armor items that are meant to provide either high protection or high dodge chance - both are pointless since the enemy's damage output pierces any armor easily while dodging does not really work even with the best 'dodging' armors
- The game provides many items that are meant to increase tactical depth like melee or short range weapons; Most of them are actually pointless due to the indolent character movement. Your survivors will die before they can make use of them efficiently
I think the developers had many good ideas regarding tactical features - however, the balancing screwed it. In order to make this a difficult game, the dumb enemies simply became strong and numerous, rendering most tactical features useless. In the end, the only thing that decides if you win or loose is the amount of high-level high-damage ranged waepons that you bring to battle
fun game, light on content. at this point, you play the game twice and youve discovered everything.
mods are fun but few and far between and don't add new content, only things that should be in the game.
I never really had fun this one. It sounded nice on paper, but everything is kind of janky and there is not much flexibility to make mistakes
Bug plagued mess that crashes and boring when it works.
Controls are clunky and game progression is very slow. feels more like playing a facebook idle game than a management or sim game
No update since Apr 17th 2020 seems that the devs are more interested in shitting out more games than finishing the one that they have started
wait is this game considered done? its got a ways to go
A good Choices Matter game that has a lot of replay capabilities, at least that is my view of the game.
Good game if you like basebuilding. Could use some more mods. Or another dlc.
Difficulty is not paced too well, but overall this is a very good game. Disagree and I'll spit you in the nostrils.
The replay value is amazing so much map to explore, the story is good and the game is challenging.
I was playing this game since 2017. It's soooo different now x.x
Fun to zone out in and the specific character traits are cool so your game is always different
Awesome!!!! I wish I had stumbled on this game sooner!
meh somewhat fun, get it on sale. The combat really ruins it all. It's supposed to be 'tactical' but if everything onehit kills you no matter what you do, the tactical part kind of goes away... It feels like the combat should've been turnedbased, now it's more a clumsy rts.
The relationships with other settlements is kind of one sided, they demand a lot without giving much back. A mediocre game at best
Quality of life issues making certain parts really annoying
I would not get this game. This seems like a early access game and it already out.
There are better games in the same genre.
One of the only unique thing is that it is set in judgement day.
Extremely fun to play through and a bit challenging. Wish there was a little more content and classes but cant be mad when you buy it on sale!
I liked the progression of the game as time went by. I felt like there were more and more things to experiment with.
Really really annoying game design. I already finished the game in the highest level, and tried to get some achievements like Comeback. Then, this crazy game keep sending survivors to me so that I cannot keep the only survivor to start the achievement. Man, 8 new dead bodies in a day and again, another new survivor came, and I pushed Alt + F4 at that moment. Sigh...
I am recommending this game because I know plenty who love this genre, and isn't overly my kind of thing, the game is decent, and very stable, but my god it gets boring fast. I believe this is because its not my kind of game.
Really interesting blend of some RTS economy management with action RPG
Not a bad little game at all. You should get about 20 hours out of it. I now know I can defeat demons if the Earth splits open, causing the end of the world. 3.5/5
Great idea, not bad graphics style. But most of game mechanics terribly raw, like it's a student's project.
It is an alright kind of RTS and Base Building Hybrid to start with but the game seriously outpaces your research and you start losing members and being unable to acquire new ones pretty quick.
Cons:
-The enemies outpace your research and you will start fighting T3/T4 monsters before you have the weapons to do any damage to them
-Your survivors level too slow and the perks are near useless
-Some of the buildings are locked behind needing a survivor reaching rank 4 in a perk to unlock defensive structure building. But you need a survivor able to have that in their random skill tree.
-Melee is extremely punishing. There are several monsters with a shooting radius of 9 hexes. You will get shot 3-4 times before reaching it, and if you need to retreat, you will likely die. There was a patch that upgraded shields to have some ranged deflection, but it is limited and terrible.
-You don't get healing for a long while, and the initial healing is limited to the wounded bar (gray bar) and not actual missing hitpoints.
-AI cities often make demands for stuff you don't have available i.e. gimme 200 research points and 10 healing kits, leading to the terms moving to unfavorable/hostile
Pros:
-Base building in the apocalypse
-Old school pencil and paper auto combat for most encounters that saves a little time
This game was very promising back in the day, but it's pretty much abandoned by the dev now. (The thumbnail still advertises the "Samurai Update" which happened almost 2 years ago at this point.)
I do enjoy the basic premise and mechanics of the game, but as it is, many parts feel like a long grind, before being able to tackle the next hurdles. The general feel of the game is also quite raw - the sound effects stick out, there's no weight/momentum to movement, some texts are hard to see etc. The "samurai" equipment also stick out like a sore thumb.
My final verdict might be to call this game a RimWorld clone with a different setting (the demons are quite interesting if I'm honest), a much more unpolished one. Albeit this game is easier on some aspects which I like, but there's generally not much content in this game.
I mean 10/10 I guess. I have going on 100 hrs in the game so far.
If you go in blind and aren't a massive gamefaqs dork googling everything there's a lot you can squeeze out of this $20 when not on sale. On discovery there's definitely big learning chunks as you progress a bit further in subsequent playthrough attempts. Feels bad to try to do everything you can to not have to start a new game, but once you do w/ new knowledge it's surprisingly more intense and rewarding to quickly get ahead of where you left off, and just be in a way better position with gained experience from dead playthroughs.
Не особо интересна, нужно гриндить.
Silently abandoned by the dev.
Okay, this is a very tough review to write. Steam reviews are not about whether a game is *good* but whether you would *recommend* it. Which is interesting for Judgment because would I recommend it? Yes. Is it good? Uhhhhh... it has good parts.
First, the really really good: Judgment is a town-builder that is very strongly inspired by X-COM with a dark narrative. That should immediately bring to mind Frostpunk and sure, you can make that comparison. But Judgment is a more fun game than Frostpunk because the latter is so freakin' *grim* whereas Judgment has a very snarky, comedy horror tone that keeps peeking out of its dark heart. Where Frostpunk is grim, Judgment is exciting.
Like X-COM, you will be sending citizen soldiers out to kill bad guys, gather resources, and perform missions. Unlike X-COM, the combats are real time with pauses like Baldur's Gate and you DON'T have rear echelon scientists and builders. Your citizen-soldiers are also your builders, farmers, workers, researchers, and if you want, occult magicians. That fundamentally makes Judgment a game of *resource management*. Do you send the strong Occultist on a mission? Or do you need him back at base doing research? Do you risk your best worker on that chancy rescue mission?
Even more than that, your existing soldiers have to go out and rescue your new soldiers. Think of it as if in X-COM, every fourth mission or so, you got to pick one of the cowering civilians and bring them home with you. Now you have to equip this person, find out what their skills are, and integrate them into your colony. There's a small flaw here in that the type of soldier you get is completely random so some unlucky draws will leave you with too many engineers and not enough fighters.
Other than that last point, I'll bet all of this sounds awesome and it really kinda is... except for the huge, HUGE misstep at the heart of Judgment: it has a TERRIBLE mid-game problem. Don't be fooled by the screen shots showing your guys with bad-ass armor and sniper rifles and Uzis. You're going to be doing most of your fighting while wearing scraps of metal and hitting demons with sticks and kitchen knives. Your strongest early game weapon will be a freakin' *arquebus* and who knows where *that* came from. With these sticks and rocks, you'll have to fight demons that outnumber you, outrange you, out-DPS you, and outmove you (and often, outflank you). Somehow, you have to manage to squeak through this nightmare just to get your first real handgun. It really kinda sucks, honestly.
I'm not the only one that apparently feels this way. Literally 90% of the people who have played this game haven't finished chapter TWO. That includes all the people who dialed down the difficulty curve.
But the *experience* of this game is so good and so well done that it's hard not to recommend it. Is that nuts? That's the bit you'll have to decide. I do recommend Judgment for the experience but yikes. It's kind of a case study in what not to do with your mid-game. 6.5/10.
Its good. Really slow but good.
I don't really recommend this game in this state, as development is finished. It's not that the game is bad, it's that other games do a better job all around of anything this game has to offer. I'm sure it's primarily budgetary concerns and the learning curve involved - so I'm not completely closed to purchasing another future product from this developer.
Hard at first, but gets fun when you understand what's what.
The game is like Rimworld, but more limited and more about fortifying your base and preparing it on until the day a strong demon horde will attack it. Every horde night gets stronger. The game had a good thing going too, but there isn't much content for it. I really liked the world map scavenging, but it felt like it could use more content with it. There are some instances you get more people into your base by rescuing them from that map area and escaping. The gameplay with that aspect felt like it needed more than what it has now and every attempt felt repetitive after awhile.
Could they not have Googled/checked a dictionary for the spelling of judgEment?? They've misspelled it every single time...
(I actually had this game for a couple of years through Origin Access, but bought it on sale on Steam because I have a mod addiction, so I've probably played closer to 200 hours)
I really love this game. No, it doesn't have nearly as much depth as Rimworld, but it's possible to make a colony sim without trying to recreate Rimworld, many of the reviews seem to forget this. It's like leaving a negative review on Need for Speed because Forza is more realistic... They are INTENTIONALLY not the same.
Anyway, Judgment is a really enjoyable survival/colony sim based around the people left behind after a rapture-type event. It's a lot more simple than other colony sims, but I think that works in it's favour. If you want to play some more Rimworld, but don't feel like you have the time or concentration required for it today, play Judgment, it'll scratch the same itch, but in a different style, and without needing so much of your brain-power. Also, some of the steam workshop mods are great.
Has come a really long way since EA, I think this may be one of the most under rated games on Steam.
Game is like Rebuild (flash era game) plus star craft / OG fallout 1 and 2 in some respects while still being unique. I'll post about the pros and cons for the game:
Pros:
-rpg styled RTS styled colony sim. If you liked games with micromanagement and exploring / defending bases this is the game for you
-unique spin on the whole zombie apocalypse genre. Title is misleading and should be differed but whatever still works. Instead of zombies you fight demons as in heaven and hell. In fact they're pretty keen on the whole biblical themes
-unique research and occult research which is using magic in the world. Something rarely seen in video games where both are there and done well.
-rpg elements galore. From character lvl up to the professions and skill trees. This game does it well
-has a currency of sorts scrap metal. Like NFTs, Bitcoins, blockchains, etc. just pop in a survivor to craft that crap nonstop and use it to build or buy stuff from npc trader survivors
-lvl up scaling system. Enemies become tougher the more you play which is pretty good (looking at you factorio get your shit together)
-several difficulties
-tons of enemies
-skip mission button / auto finish button so you don't have to do them. Based on loadout and difficulty of characters how well you do and if you complete it or they die.
-auto function meaning survivors can do tasks on priority as chopping down a tree you can have it be a priority then next in line farming then water then research etc.
-can load multiple tasks at once and survivor A.I. will complete them as instructed.
cons:
-steep and i do mean steep learning curve
-tutorials is pretty bad / non-existant and imo it would be nice to have one (even factorio has one albiet a bad one it still shows you some of the stuff to help starting out).
-not to be nit picky but the title could've gone with something more biblical like rapture or armageadon or end of days. Either way judgement sounds pretty okay but could've been better. J.S.
-lots to manage and micromanage means a very confusing A.I. system but in some ways it works others it doesn't for newbies
-researching is a pain in the ass mid game
-only 1 base. Can't make others
-very confined base even though it's about 1k x 1k blocks give or take 2-4k
-survivors barely walk about 20 paces before needing to eat.
-the survival aspect is pretty crap for food and water requirements
-too many missions and events can bombard you
-skill tree and item setups are a bit unbalanced. For example unlocking leather or scrap armor when you can by pass it by just lvling up a bit more.
-trades early on are pretty bad. You get late game trade items early game when you're barely starting and don't have enough scrap metal (currency in-game) to trade for or items to trade for other items.
-optimization is pretty bad in terms of stuttering and loading times (then again what game modern day in age isn't sadly so i'll give it a small pass this time around).
Overall i'd give it a 7/10. Has potential but needs lots of polishing in some areas. Maybe a larger map(s) and more bases. Would be nice to have one base finish then colonize another area/base or another map with high lvl survivors and tree skills. Again idk i barely have a couple of hours playtime but nothing had indicated so far if there is anything post game. Unlike rebuild it seems to not have a post game game.
Surprised how much I've enjoyed this one. It's like Rimworld but some of the annoying things are simplified, and you also spend more time on the world map in Judgment.
Decent mod support always makes a difference for these types of games too, either to add more content (weapons, tech etc) or to reduce the grind by making resource acquisition easier.
You can have a lot of fun expanding your base and your crew. Researching and building, crafting tons of items from wooden shacks to computer research stations, from wooden sticks to high-tech firearms. Leveling up your people who can specialize in various areas. Lots of demons everywhere to kill and loot. You can even practice the occult arts yourself and let the demons taste their own medicine! Fun game.
An interesting game, though the mechanics are a bit rough around the edges. I enjoyed the esoteric & metaphysical elements, but the combat system could have been better implemented. A shame that using mods disables achievements. Still, I understand it's Suncrash's first game, so good on them nonetheless.
Cool game. Interface makes managing colony simple. Fast forward button keeps it from getting too repetitive,
game had potential but has been abandoned so in its current state i would not buy.
Abandoned Game. No update since April 2020 which is very unfortunate. Had good potential.
I played this game for an hour over 3 sessions, because i got so bored with it i could only tolerate 20 mins at a time. The combat is slow, clunky, unintuitive, and feels strongly like trying to use microsoft paint.
My breaking point came when everyone started dying of hunger despite a huge stockpile of food. I was told that without a table, they would not eat. I hadn't built a table, ergo, they all stood there looking at a huge pile of food and said, 'You know what, if I can't sit at a table, I'd rather die than eat all that food"
That was enough for me to quit. Unfortunately, I didn't know the STEAM refund policy, so I got to keep this game and pay for it. But that's my bad.
This is a hard, unequivocal, very vigorous NO. And that's from a guy who LOVES builders/survival. Don't buy it. Buy literally anything else in the genre.
One of the best games I have played in years. On "Challenging" mode the escalation was almost perfectly balanced as I progressed with many tense moments. Hardly anything was tedious or churny, it would be nice to have one survivor just cut and plant trees one at a time. The weapon and armour options are numerous and present real options on deployment, skill paths etc. A great overall experience after 100+ hours :)
i like this game its a true colony survival game get in and kill some demons.
I've enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It is worth the price, esp. if you get it on a sale. Some have compared this game to RimWorld. I do get the comparison. But it's also pretty different from RimWorld - especially with the creepy music, art style and general atmosphere. It also reminds me of other isometric 2D tactical/squad games, except it also has colony/base management and resource management aspects.
Also, it has more replayability than I expected. The map is randomized. Most events are random. There are 4 difficulty settings, plus some customization options like Sandbox and enabling Halloween content. Once you've beaten it, you can try again on a higher difficulty. And one of the biggest pluses, for me, is the assortment of mods on Steam Workshop to customize the experience.
As for cons: While the music is nice, it does get repetitive pretty quickly because there aren't many tracks. And I can see how the gameplay, itself, can feel repetitive after a while. There are only so many game events and, by mid-game, you've pretty much seen them all. Some of them may get a bit annoying. I'm trying to make mods to increase game event variety and, hopefully, change the music. But this is challenging as it's not all that mod-friendly and the dev seemed to stop support.
by the nine! oblivion gates opening up across tamriel!!!
This game just does not do it for me on any level and this is my go to genre. Nothing it does is unique which is fine if what it copied it did well. The "graphics" I do not find unique and "indie". It looks like my 10 year old's monster journal. The combat is beyond basic and slow and boring. Uninspired is the word that comes to mind. Which makes sense seeing as the default flag for the camp is a pot leaf...which for me really sums it up. Someone got high and decided to make a demonic rimworld rip off and succeeded at just that. Not for me. Wouldn't recommend to anyone I know.
One of my current favourites but its a long game, takes months to get through.
This is quite a fun game, and the difficulty curve is well maintained throughout. I had a blast losing my first few camps learning the different demons and possessed, finally made a good run through on my 4th go, and only lost 4 survivors through some very useful kill boxes, micro and finding or crafting some good weapons and armour
Really enjoying this game so far. Like the options and the micro managing of the settlements. Look forward to making new items and finding cool weapons and armor when i level my characters up enough for them to use it feels like a big step forward. Only 20 hours deep and i just scratched the surface on what i can make and craft.
No way i can recommend this to anyone. Plays like a free mobile game and is completely boring. feels like a game made by a 9 year old for 9 year olds
