Nice Turn Base Strategy Game.
Got different factions and each got own strength and ability. Different research area, different play style.
Campaign quite challenge. Some of the mission quite hard and I tried a few times finally beat it.
Those who love 4x Turn base game should try this.

Stole a legendary samurai sword.
A pack of weaboos teleported to my capital 3 turns later, decimating the capital and every single unit and hero defending it.
Went from 1st to losing real quick.
10/10 will buy another Chinese 4X again.

Strongly recommended for fans of challenging turn-based tactics AND strategy (this has a lot of both) with one major caveat. Specifically recommended if you have played and enjoyed, for examples: Battle for Wesnoth, Panzer General, Fantasy General, Order of Battle, Warlock, Fall from Heaven Civ mod, Conquered Kingdoms (yes, the QQP classic!), Historyline, Battle Isle (see, I am old! How about you?) and similar.

Having played all of those, this one . . . would be my top pick for breadth and depth of tactical and strategic options, and they *work*. This is well designed, mostly.

The good parts are:

1. This is a surprisingly deep and demanding combination of Panzer General / Fantasy General style tactical combat, with a strong economic and base development layer sitting under it. I would actually rate the tactical challenges as good, or better, than Order of Battle / Panzer General et al.

Within one campaign scenario, I experienced the closest I ever have in a tactical game to a WWI trenches style attrition war, needing to carefully swap in and out units to the front line, and organise tanks to the front, archers back, artillery type units at the rear.

2. Huge variety of factions / units / tactics / maps, and extensive campaigns, if you enjoy the core gameplay loops, there are 100s of hours here. There are five campaigns (or more maybe, with DLC) and a really strong scenario generator, similar to what you may experience in the likes of Age of Wonders, Warlock, Heroes of Might and Magic etc.

3. RPG-like unit progression is done very well, with Hero characters having an expansive hexagonal development tree but even regular units having development options, and you can, if you like to, curate that 'super' team and use that as the focus for your offensives.

4. The terrain *matters*. Most terrains give some kind of buff or debuff, and some are impassable to non-flying units, and the net sum is that arranging choke-points and tactical withdrawals and defence is a huge part of the game, possibly far more so, again, than many more serious, military style game comparators.

This game just *does* tactics, and to some extent, *strategy*, and to some extent, since you are managing various resources, *logistics*!

5. Tactics can go a long way to success, meaning how well you use your units. Strategy options are also however plentiful, including, for examples:

~ What kind of force composition you create, through buildings and unit procurement
~ How you manage fighting on multiple-fronts, for example, going defensive of some, and offensive on others
~ What kind of hero units you will use, and how you will develop them
~ How you will support your hero units with regular units
And many more . . .

The BIG caution is that some of the campaign scenarios are brutally challenging. The Steam discussion forums are worth visiting to see a bit of chatter about this. I personally enjoyed the enormous challenge of an earlier campaign scenario that generates a lot of dislike, but despite the bright and colourful fantasy graphics, this is a serious beast of a tactical challenge.

One minor caution is that the campaign scenarios alternate between more or less conventional maps where you use a full range of economic / magic development and progression options, as per a regular scenario, and others where you are given a strictly fixed roster of units and a specific objective to achieve, like a tactical retreat where you preserve key units. This latter type strips away the strategic layer but can be just as challenging, requiring detailed management to succeed.

Fun little game, combines turn-based tactics with 4X elements. Definitely worth the price which is not high at all.

I do have one complaint though - I wish I could start with the campaign. Having to win 3 games before you can play the campaign kinda takes the fun out, by the time you're able to play the campaign you've already seen much of what the game has to show, if not all.

Really good game!

Many settings to tailor the experience to your own taste:

* Your faction
* Map size
* Numer of opponents
* Map layout: Continent, Land, Inner Sea, Island map, Central Island
* Team settings: Team up with AI or FFA against AI or you VS AI alliance and such

There are 3 factions with good unit variety (played 3 hours as humans and basically only got a feel for 2 units out of 9).
On top of that, there are 'indie factions' (sea-based and land-based (rogues)) that also provide units if you conquer their base.
On top of thát, you can upgrade and outfit the units allowing for a very broad range of strategic choices in what forces to field.

Then there's city building that benefits your growing empire with economic bonuses or defense for your castles.

Add in research to upgrade spells, economy or your units/military,
Add in Heroes that have their own upgrade paths based on experience (the whole (broad!) upgrade tree seems randomized: cool!!),
Add in spellcasting,
Add in all kinds of Events (a crafter wanders into your empire, he's offering to make you a nice piece of equipment for X gold: A: do it, B: do not, C: slaughter him for his trade goods - may spawn a vengeful demon!) that are toggleable in map settings,
and it really becomes a full-fledged 4X game with enough depth to keep me interested and a simple charm that I rather enjoy.

Combat takes place on the world map, and there's spellcasting units, healing units, flying units, melee units, archer units etc.

Oh yeah, there's also a divine type of magic based on Totems you can conquer!

Of course different tiles give different attack or defense bonuses or maluses (no economic effects, those are handled through the regions lesser buildings like mines and villages and tombs and such).

Guess that sort of covers it.

Only downside: some weird spelling/grammer mistakes, but hey it's early access (with zero non-writing issues so far!)

If the screenshots/trailer appeal to you then get it: it really delivers and imo trumps expectations from those screenshots/trailer.

Only played this game for a few minutes. This game has a very poor english translation. Just about every sentence has some type of mistake. I found it annoying.

The user interface is functional but slow. Seems to be designed for touch screens as all of the buttons are very large.

Started playing games with Civ I. I love a good 4x wargame. Not a fan of the new Civ with all the fluff, religion, loyalty, diplomacy and whatnot. This game reminds me of Gladius, just a great 4x wargame. Oh, and a great price. So if you like 4x wargames with no fluff you will love Legion War. Hope they expand the game with more fractions. I would even pay for them.

Hard Difficulty Beaten: First Impression/Suggestions & Feedback
Hello, after playing a couples of games, I finally managed to beat the game on Hard Difficulty using the Undead.

First I would like to say that I truly enjoy this game. And here I want to take the time to go through my initial impression and the things I like and dislike about the game as it stand.

Overall the game feel quite polished and very well balanced, all races have their ups and downs, with Undead I feel being the most powerful.

Having played a few games with each races I feel like the weakest race by far is the Robot one.

Their asernal of spells and units are very lackluster, most units cost more then their counter-part from the other two races and their only advantage is self-repair.

While at low difficulty you can easily abuse self-repair to steamroll through the game once you reach Hard+, Robots self-repair just can't keep up. The fact that units cost more Gold & Populations per units make them overly reliants on having good equipements on their units, which early game is almost impossible to achieve while gearing your heroes.

Overall Robots are strong late game but have a very slow early game.

As for Humans, they have one of the best Arsenal of spells and can easily focus on Magic to decimate their foes, having access to the best Ranged units, Humans are extremely good versus Robots who are weak against magic, and if you bolster their magics enough you can easily overcome Elite and Farm Legendary Equipements much earlier then the others two races, which make them very fun to play.

The biggest issues is that they tend to be a bit slow early as if you go the magic route, it take time for magic to truly shine. (+15 Mana Regeneration Event is very OP with Humans, regardless of backlash from taking it).

Last but not least we have the Undead, which I like to refer to as the Heroes Tactics, Undead truly shine when turning Units into Heroes using Ages of Heroes Technology.

Death Knight + Skeleton KIng + Vampire Hero + Reaper Hero = GG.

Overall the undead have the easiest time early game, especially with the Death Knight being so mobile. Understanding how Necro Plague work is key to playing with the undead, getting those precious stacks of Necro Plagues on Ennemy is key to easy victory.

While Undead spell aren't the greatest, they are ok but I would not invest much in spells with Undead. Instead focusing on building very few but very strong units that can take down any foes quickly. Mobility is the key. Mummy being almost the only units you don't want to turn into Hero, as you want Mummy following all your Heroes.

But overall all races have their ups and down.

Let's talk a little about the translation for a moments, to put in simple terms, google translated game, is what the game feels like.

Many sentence are poorly translated.

Your All Units gets he following effect: Extra Exp of Attack & Counter +6

is but one example, should be something along:

All your Units gain the following effect: +6 Extra Exp per Attack & Counter-Attack.

Overall there is many sentences that are just hard to understand the way they are formulated.

===========================================
===========================================

Here is a few suggestions:

Hero Tech Tree should not be 100% random, some tech tree combinations are so bad that if gotten on your first hero you are better restarting the game. That is especially true in harder difficulty where min maxing is required to win.

Some events can literally make you lose the game. Get Solar Eclipse while fighting using an army of ranged units as humans = GG you lost. -2 Range on all units.

Magic Events need to tell you where the army of Seraph or Demons will spawn, when playing a XXL map and getting 3 turns to positions your units and havving 20+ Seraph spawn at the back of your base...it's just way too strong an events. Make playing magics risky & unrewarding.

Others victory type would be appreciated, like Completing the Tech tree, spending tons of hammer on building a God Units or spending tons of gold to I don't know build a God Altar?

Having more victory options would allow for different ways of playing, On XXL maps game can feels very long even when you won half the maps because it's so big. Yet you know you won when you are so far ahead.

Having playing Civilaztios games for hundred of hours, I will say this game as a solid foundations, with enough polishing it could become a truly great game. Keep up the good work!

Interesting little turn based war game that some how scratches that itch i been craving for a simple and fun 4X game. Been playing too many 4X games (Moo, Endless, etc.), but I just didnt want to spend a week of conquest on those games. So this game fills in the need for a single day conquest with some nice advance upgradable tech tree on everything. Sure the game has its own little quirks, but it not so bad that you cant play. So what if there are some typos and lack of instructions, the gameplay solid and not that hard to figure out. Looking forward to future patches, epecially for new races.

Hot game here folks. There is a lot of good stuff behind the scenes and it's not as light hearted as you may think. Tons of replayability, tons of fun. Still in EA and improving but certainly worth it now. Developer very much in the loop so don't pass it up!

Togego
Togego

This game doesn't offer much new compared to existing games, but it puts well-known concepts in cute graphics.
It has a lot of potential but still needs loads of work.

you have three races to choose from, and the single races play surprisingly differently.
- Undead are cheap and try to overrun their enemies by sheer number. They suck at long range.
- Mechanicals are great at long range, but once you get them into close combat they don't stand a chance.
- Humans have a good variety of troops although they don't excel with any.

There are four kind of troop types in the game:
- racial troops (undead, mechanicals, humans) can be recruited from land castles
- sea troops (anyone can recruit them from sea castles)
- mercenaries (anyone can recruit them from land castles that have a mercenary building if they control a mercenary camp)
- ancients (no one can recruit them but they are available through events)

There are three resources: gold, research and hammers
- you need gold to improve your castles and to recruit troops.
- you need research to activate technologies
- you need hammers to improve troops and to recruit them once you assigned equipment

The biggest problems are imo:
- there are no guard/sleep commands, so every turn you have to touch every single unit (@devs: please change that, this is a major motivation killer!)
- the balancing of starting locations in random maps is, well, not existing. (e.g. last time I started on a medium island, one opponent started on a continent sized island while the other two started an tiny islands and never ever stood the slightest chance)
- the AI doesn't take into account whom a unit belongs to. anything not belonging to itself is treated equally hostile

Bugs:
- castle teleport can put sea units on land, where they can't do anything
- you can build mercenary barracks in sea castles but they don't work there
- the advisor keeps telling me to put damage dealing gear on healers, just because it is of higher rarity than the current gear.
- the next castle button doesn't take the current gold into account, just the gold at the beginning of the turn.

Overall: 3(5)

Ail

Just on the last weekend I played a big FFA the demo for 10.2 hours.
Then got the full game and played 2 1v1s for a combined other 5.5 hours!

It is rare that a game captivates me that much from the get go.

The AI is also quite competent already, which is part of what makes the game so fun to play. But I also see room for improvement there.

There's some minor annoyances that could easily be improved like:

- no hotkey for ending the turn

- a lot of places where I first have to select something and then click a button instead of having double-click work there like with the hero-skill-tree, would be really nice if equiping items worked the same way

I'd also like if hitting the space-bar to go to the next unit would trigger the I'm done-function of that unit or at least have all units have the same hotkey for that (it always changes) and maybe if there's no "next unit"-button anymore space could mean "next turn".

Here's an analysis of my observations about the AI and what it could do differently.

The AI has a huge focus on raipidly expanding their zone of control, which is a good thing as long as it hasn't run into another faction.

They seem to prioritize going for the easiest targets and will avoid attacking other factions until no easy-to-beat-neutrals are left. But they don't really focus on one nation at a time and will rather fight a bit everywhere and have skirmishes on different borders.

So if you just let them do their thing and don't intervene, they will conquer every neutral area in a really short amount of time and then send everything to you.

But when you find them before they are done conquering the neutrals, they don't really fight back and you can often easily take out their capital.

I think that defending what they have should have a much higher priority then conquering what they don't have yet.

Another issue is that the AI doesn't really seem to care much about tactical retreats of damaged units. I think that while fighting other factions this is fine, as they would probably just chase down the wounded units anyways. But when they fight against neutrals they also don't really care.

What I also really like is that, like in Warhammer 40k: Gladius there's no diplomacy.

I can only recommend this game, and especially for only 8€. It is fun, and you just want to try another turn.

BATTLEMODE
BATTLEMODE

Looks promising.

I was initially put off by the cute graphics, which I don't usually like in a war game (although the graphics are very good and the game is nicely presented over-all, with a very professional feeling polish) but under the hood there's clearly a lot going on. I've not had chance to really play-test this thoroughly but after reading Daz's review and watching a let's play I think it'd suit a 4x gamer who likes concentrating on the warfare aspect of the game. Looking forwards to getting into this properly.

This is a brilliantly designed strategy game. Strategical & tactical decisions have to be examined & considered on every turn. Especially on the smaller maps, which are my favorites.
The ease of play aided by a well thought out UI is a joy to experience. The replay ability this game offers per its' random maps, events, hero upgrades, research, city building is a gamer's dream come true.

As a fantasy war-like grand strategy game, it compares & surpasses other similar games of this genre. Despite the cartoony graphics, which are pleasing to the eyes, this ranks as a serious contender for a 'Game of the Year' nomination.
With no manual or much online info (the in-game encyclopedia could use some work) one is left to watching videos (Dastactic on YouTube is a great choice) or, simply, learning the game the old fashioned way.

Key decisions, like how to develop your units & heroes via upgrades & equipment to include what units to bring into the battles has been implemented beautifully. One gets the sense that a 'combined arms' approach is necessary for a successful campaign vs the enemy. One also has to be very wary of the neutrals that roam the map, which can be adjusted per the Advanced Settings.

What this game offers for the price the 'devs' are asking, is far beyond what many more expensive games will give you.
I cannot recommend this gem enough. If this game ever offers multiplayer via any method (preference for lan/local) & modding (there is already some) the value of this game would triple, imho.

My early review: Legion War for the price is a nice clean wonderful 4X game that plays like the new influx of board game apps you are starting to see. It is the start of Bear and Cat Studios and their intro is just great in its simplicity and duplexity at the same time. For now, 4 starting factions ships unlocking part of the part to win the war. That simple. As leader of the new Turn-Base Genre group, let's take a peak at what Legion does right and what needs to improve.
PROS
Aesthetics: Let me get this straight, wonderfully layout, simple, beautiful, colorful and the characters are all well done and thought out. Simple enough, a plus.
Presentation: Is clean, some nice visuals, easy functions, plays like an app and suddenly realized it plays like a board game than some extravagant pressure game were the stakes are nerve racking. Good
Theme: Easy for even children to play with, with no real traumatizing storylines or graphic violence or bloodshed. Fun for all ages to try. Have at Thee! Then your good here.
Sequence: You get the hang of it quickly. Easy controls. It took a start or two, but not that annoying if you discover mistakes and plenty of fun abilities ships can do that make the game fun to play. Sounds, Effects, Visuals, and theme are all positives in the game.
Classic: Like Stratego, Chess, Chinese Checkers, Checkers, and other classic board games. There is a clean purpose from start to finish that can involve you for hours. See con.
Theme: Can easily see it released on other formats and a nice template to build on. Additions to the game will only improve the base play with options down the road for this new developer to explore. More factions expanded factions of the factions already there.
CONS
Story: The simplicity of the game is also its weakness because it has no storyline that matters to the gamer. It does teach good fun strategy, but no real purpose that makes you want to play it over and over for now. This is Might and Magic, Duelist, Hearthstone Effects, Phantom. They take bits of other games and just add them, that does not mean they are necessary or needed.
Capped: Games like this need to stop capping themselves with minion types and tier building. For example, why use an Archer late game. Like Might and Magic, by the end, you're recruiting only the most powerful units. That is redundant and boring. The progression system of a small unit should progress a customized upgraded mutation within the unit, not archer to archer w items, but archer, to ranger, to hunter to etc. Then expand from that in size by job type, not strength by type. A mistake all developers continue to make. Thus, bringing nothing new to the genre.
Fluff: Another game like M&M that make it about the race to power, not rewarded for the fruits of your labors. Why cap at population. If your going to simplify and do Civilization, then don’t repeat the same mistakes with 1 v 1 capped chess warfare.
Old Hat: There are some balancing and spawning issues the AI does to try and balance things. There are also functions that are not clearly defined. Fortification, AI spawns for no reason, boxed researched trees that games copy, but no real invention of the chess format. You can play Card game war with a deck of cards and still be the last one wins, but what are you doing different.
EARLY ACCESS review-Means just that, things can change, they will adapt and add.
My Thoughts of Legion War. A board game, App, console, and other formats, but they must work on a not capping itself with old turn base chess themes. Might and Magic, Civs. Final Theory, Duelist, have all done this, what can we do better, not the same. This game could have appeared in any genre and still worked. It’s a fun board game to me. It is not innovative or creating anything new but dresses it up in a fun manner. It also caps itself with the number of areas unnecessarily. Wonderful start for B&C studios first induction is comparable to any board game in a store and gives you a lot for the price as a start. The game can be addicting, but in the end, will not hold up in replay-ability in redundant themes in the long run. I can see it as a wonderful multi player game if they alter the tier class idea to progression within the class instead of chess class level. Everyone will just purchase Queens. A borderline positive review for me for its one-time release, but great additions could make this game a classic. See the video section above discussion to see if it’s for you. Wait for a sale. A nice introduction my score 2.9 out of 5

The game has some nice things going for it and some not so nice things working against it.
Pros:
* pretty graphics though they are very cityville or whatever phone app game they emulated. Generally I don't like those type of graphics but they work here.

* fairly deep strategy required to build cities/tech/forces properly. (Lots of wrong moves to be made of course.)

* decent beginner tutorial. (Though it would be improved by brevity and not being playable to the ending. As a tutorial it could do a better job with some of the more advanced concepts.

* in-game "encyclopedia". (Unfortunately it isn't very encyclopedic.)

* neat hex based mechanics including a fog of war that reveals in a nice graphical way.

* instead of yet another "tree" Technology uses an interesting spiral paradigm split 3 ways between Economic, Military and Magic.

Cons:
- Random events and "Neutral" attacks can really ruin your game early on. (First non-tutorial game had a 14k monster show up near my town a few turns in. Needless to say I didn't keep that game and I turned off the dragons part of the game. )

- Deep Strategy requires at least some explication of the more advanced parts of the game. There is not a lot here. Trial and Error does help and but a better explanation of many things would help.

- A sneaking suspicion that the game isn't it's own thing really but a mishmash of various Age of Wonder Clones. I say that but I respect that it does somewhat stand on its own.

- My biggest frustration is that I barely saw a non-neutral enemy early on and later when i started seeing them they were insanely more powerful than my heroes. Granted I am still a "newb" with the concepts to some extent but it felt weird to get wrecked pretty hard by units dealing 4-5x my average damage.

- The Random Events where if you choose wrong you suffer for the rest of the game are just unfun. Though the RP aspect of them was humorous at first. Reminded me a lot of Eador but with a much more malicious tinge to them.

- Randomly was given a Hanzo unit (14k hp insane samurai robot dude) because I found and returned its sword. Yay? Except a few turns later he mysteriously fell over dead after taking a mere smidgeon of his hp in damage. "Hanzo suddenly feels ill" *Hanzo falls over and dies.* REALLY??? That sucked. Give something then cruelly and without a good reason take it away? Not cool.

The Gist:
I like the game but feel somewhat annoyed with it at the same time. Deeper than expected learning curve both helps and hurts. And I bought this game on sale with an additional steam coupon so it is very hard to think too negatively of it. In the end I recommend this for people who enjoy AoW, MoM, King's Bounty, Eador and other hexbased strategy games with a tinge of grand strategy.

LEGION WAR a world where much fun is to be had! Elegant interface on many levels with a ton of detail that is easy to navigate. The overall atmosphere is intensely relaxing where it feels like am playing a tabletop board game mix of strategy and rpg mechanics on a perfect Sunday afternoon :)

Cause and effect rich with positive and negative consequences makes LEGION WAR stand out from the crowd. One of those rare games that can teach life lessons without sounding preachy. So think twice before you burn that master merchant to death lest the merchant's guild strikes back with economic and work related retribution. Watch out for hustlers and scammers in your empire as well who seem to know much yet actually are just lining their pockets with your coin while delivering nothing on snake oil scams.

Upgrades abound from improvements to make your economy better to things like education, magic, combat and city defense enhancements. Character upgrades are also just as thick with many skills to be learned and increased in their potency. But BEWARE! That Skeleton King you enhance to godly levels may betray you as another kingdom pays him a handsome sum for your demise.

Music is relaxing and soothing putting one in the right mood for all that the world has to offer as it's vastness is explored and discovered.

Graphics swirl and sing with deep living colors like the best of tabletop games of old with a cute yet heroic and menacing cartoon art style bringing much tactical and strategic info to the forefront of the map where guess work is practically nil thanks to all the information before one and the excellent tutorial.

LEGION WAR, BUY IT! PLAY IT! A game to be enjoyed by the adult crowd along with those looking for something with a family oriented flavor.

Hard learning curve to understand all the systems, poor explanations / tooltips, and doesn't really feel rewarding to push through.
With some effort put into better UI, hover information that explains combat outcomes / counterattacks / stats / upgrade requirements, and a few quality of life tweaks (escape should really close popups rather than forcing you to click the cross) it might be a bit easier to get into.

I don't feel bad supporting the devs on this one, but I also don't want to play it as it is.

Noticed the game was on sale so I will throw up a quick review for those wondering about this. It's a pretty solid little strategy game for the price, the store page does a decent job explaining most of the mechanics. The game is being called a 4x in the description, but at the current stage of development at least it's not really, it's much closer to something like Heroes of Might and Magic. You can't build anything on the map you can only take over existing locations, there's no diplomacy that I remember seeing, and the tech tree is mostly just buffs to existing mechanics/buildings/units. Faction units are fairly unique with their own strategies, and each faction has some economic bonuses in certain areas that change their strategy a little, but the towns/castles themselves are identical between factions (other than art), with the same buildings all unlocked at the start of the game, which you can upgrade over time based on town/castle level.

The game shines pretty heavily in the RPG area, heroes have a full gear loadout and a randomized skill tree with some pretty powerful unlocks sometimes. Even normal units level up and can equip a smaller number of items, and with their own shared skill tree you can customize the same unit type in a number of different ways each game. For example the standard human archer can be specialized into pure high damage ranged combat, or it can be specialized into more of a combat scout with a massive sight range, or it can be spec'd to debuff enemies it attacks. It's pretty neat.

I definitely think the game is worth the current $8-10 price tag, even as is. It seems to be getting somewhat regular updates still though they are usually pretty small. I'm hoping to see a bit more stuff and depth added to some of the mechanics before it leaves EA, it could become something really great, but again as is it's still a decent game.

While it is very simplistic, the four available factions function in their own unique ways, including the heroes. It is a pain to remember all the status effects without going to a bothersome and lengthy route to check ONE unit's status each time. The battle system is quite simple yet confusing in some aspects (mainly regarding artillery and non-linear skills). And can we have more than one music track. And the advisor is helpful, but annoying.

The biggest offender, at least to me, is the absolutely abyssmal achievement requirements. This game forces you to play several dozens of maps, each of them at least 2 to 3 hours long.

I give it a 7/10 as it currently stands. This is an Early Access game, so it might improve in time, but right now this game is an above average 4x simplistic take on the genre. It is a good, casual stepping stone into better, grander strategy games.

Simply awesome and is being made better and better all the time! Probably one of the best 4x Fantasy games out there! Only Endless Legends and Age of wonders series are better than this!!

SO GREAT!!!

My last couple reviews of recent games were negative and here I come, finally with the game that I have no regret of buying whatsoever.

Despite of being early release, this game is pretty deeply well-designed, and offers the very elements of strategy.

Only downside would be that one game takes too long, but even that can be very fun because of what it offers.

I am looking forward to updates that would come in the future hopefully, since this is such a fine game that needs to be perfected with further updates... this game is jewel

my score: 9.8/10

This game is a load of fun and now has a campaign to add to it! I played this for around 30 hours without campaign mode.

Now, all it really needs is online multiplayer and co-op mode!

This is a really fun little game that has not got nearly the buzz it deserves - especially compared to some very overrated similar games (Wargroove, for ex).

Great game, well balanced. I own/play most turn based strategy games, this one has kept my attention for several weeks on and off. Complex enough to keep it interesting.

Can't wait until the rest of the campaigns are done! I can see quite high potential for the final product

I will be short. Neat game with adequate mechanics and stylish graphics.

For me there are only 2 downsides:
- I liked numbers(mainly hp and damage) from its predecessor(android game) more.
- I liked hero system from that one more as well.
Now, I undestand these games are different, but those are the things that made me like Legion War so much. And without that I feel less satisfied than I could have.

cheap simple 4x strat style game
the game is not good, but for the price and the ease with which you can pick it up, its nice
the upgrade system is diverse for the different races, but the good stuff is REALLY expensive
its generally easier to just get some mid level stuff and win with zerg rush style tactics

fun strategy game with enough randomness to make several games worth playing; you have to win three games to unlock the campagin; tutorial is good but not too long.

Its a solid game in the genre and well worth its price. Note I don't play the scenarios; I always play the skirmish mode

What a little gem this is. I got this after seeing a Let's Play from DasTactic. My first impression was, how can this be worth a crap with the graphics they chose to use. Don't let the graphics fool you, there is a lot of meat under the hood here.

Things are not so complicated that it will take you 40 hours to learn the systems, nor so easy that it will not hold your attention. This little gem holds a nice sweet spot for me. I play it when I was a deep game but don't have hours to put into a game.

If my strategy games were on a spectrum from hardest to easiest then this one would trend toward the easy to learn and play. The fact that I play this at all is a testament to the quality of the title. I have all the great strategy games of the last 10 years. I have 300 hours in EU4, CK3, Stellaris, Polaris Sector, Distant Worlds: Universe etc... X-Com 2 500 hours... Still this little gem has found a way to steal 110 hours of my life and I plan on playing it again today... I have just enough time to play a game but not enough for something more in depth.

This is a very pleasant, open-ended little fantasy 4x. The emphasis is on combat, and the castle-building and hero-leveling dynamics, while quite straight-forward, offer a surprising amount of replay value. It's a great value, and it's certainly a game you can play as casually or as strategically/intensely as you want!

G30RG3

This is a simple turn base strategic game. Game functions are quite limited in the area of base development or character customization. Basically u will summon your available characters every turn to explore the map and fight off enemies as you continuously gain xp to improve your research, unlock chracater types and stats. I would say it is quite a difficult task to level up ypur characters as they die so often and you wil then need to summon them again in your base before starting out on another adventure. Long story short, the game is quite repetitive and you may get bored easily.

Don't let the cutesy looks fool you, this is a real wargame. If you like Advance Wars, Wargroove, or turn-based grand Strategy, this deserves a look. A two man dev team accomplished quite a polished and fun game, but as they are Chinese there are some small translation errors and the game is not great about teaching you the ropes. However, after you get past the initial learning curve, the game unfolds in majestic fashion. Deceptively deep for a game sporting fuzzy woodland creature armies, sort of goofy robots, undead legions, and traditional human knights and wizards. Enthusiastic thumbs up from this grognard, provided you can get past the initial "WTF?". A hidden gem!

There is a great game in here somewhere, but at the moment it's chaos. The lack of any balancing means it can be fun to find strategies that border on cheating. On the downside, entire runs can implode within seconds.

My first game, easiest setting (to learn the ropes), saw my entire army one-shot from offscreen.
My second game, a magic box dropped a high level demon next to my castle. It wiped my army and camped on my castle killing reinforcements as it healed.

I want to love this game. But it's infuriating.

Game is pretty fun and a good value. I really like the art, and the core mechanics are solid.

It could be a lot better if they hired a translator, because some of the text is weirdly worded or just in the wrong order for English. It would also help if they could reduce the font size a bit in certain places, for example weapon descriptions, which can run out the bottom of the UI element with no way to scroll down and read the whole description.

The Hero Challenge is a fun bonus mode.

Like pretty much any 4x that I've played, if you're any good, the AI is too weak unless you crank up the difficulty, in which case it's just cheating.

Great balance of strategic depth vs accessibility. Perfect for gamers who want a deep strategy game but are easily intimidated by a lot of the more popular strategy games.

Despite the "cute" graphics there is an amazing strategy game here. The price is very reasonable. Still has a few translation issues, I'm sure those will be worked out eventually. Highly recommend as a strategy game!

Before there was Civilization, there was Empire. The main difference being that Empire based games didn't really have diplomacy, nor did you build cities - your goal was to basically defeat all the opponents. Expansion was by capturing neutral cities. Empire based games have been rare in recent times

Legion War is basically an Empire style game, but with a lot of modern trappings. As a fantasy game, it reminds me a bit of the old Warlords series from SSG, but it uses more modern MMORPG style upgrading of units with skill trees. It's also got a research system, where you can lean economic, military, or magical upgrades.

There's quite a lot of options as well, including making custom maps, hotseat play, and team play. It's really quite remarkable for $10

No hero building in the Campaign.

I played the Demo and liked it. I purchased the game because I was interested in the Campaign mode, hoping that there I would have the ability to build up heroes and perhaps even troops to carry over from one level to the next. Sadly, that is not what the Campaign offers. The advancements and items you gather do not carry over from level to level. You start each level back at square one. This is not a bad thing as long as you are aware of it and it's something you're okay with. The problem is and the reason I'm writing this review is, you can't even play the Campaign mode until you've won three normal matches/maps. And each of those games can take a while to complete. So by time I was allowed to play through the first level of the Campaign and discover it did not offer the hero building I was looking for, I had sunk 13 hours into the game. At which point Steam would not allow a refund for the game. The game is good, but had I known what the Campaign mode lacked I would not have bought it. And if the game had allowed me to play the Campaign straight away, I would have discovered its limits and gotten a refund.

It's actually pretty good and well worth the price, especially on sale.
I can't complain much aside from two things:
- In the menu it would be nice to see which faction you pick, not just by symbol
- Music can get a bit repetitive, though at first it was really nice

All in all very good game

tkonrye

The game, quite frankly is kinda boring, its like the old master of monsters title, and the matches go on and on. Sure there are lots of skills and upgrades but they dont have any meaning and seem to be there just to try and make the game interesting but it fails.

Requested a refund, and it was denied. I strongly recommend you avoid this title if you are looking for any kind of actual RPG style strategy game, unless endless boring grinding without purpose is what you like

Legion War is a classic style turn-based conquer the world game with tons of options and depth to it. I've played nearly 75 hours and haven't even touched the two campaigns currently included.

As of this review there are 5 playable factions with unique units, heroes, spells/abilities and mechanics as well as several minor factions that can be encountered in game and whose units can be recruited.

The game receives regular updates adding new and completely unexpected content, and development on the campaigns for other factions seems to be ongoing at a steady pace.

There is a surprising amount of depth to this game. You capture and upgrade cities, with choices of buildings which improve different aspects of your economy or provide other benefits (allowing you to recruit extra units, levelling up newly recruited units, or providing benefits to units in the territory).

Heroes level up allowing you to choose from a variety of stat boosts. Non-hero units also level up receiving stat bonuses (but there's no customization). You can even research an ability to turn standard units into heroes, making them stronger but limiting you to only one of that unit, and making it upgrade items the way heroes do. There's also equipment for heroes and regular units and probably other content i'm not even thinking of.

There are just tons of options in terms of how to play and how to use each faction.

If you like turn-based strategy games with layers of options and depth and significant replayability I highly recommend this game. I really have no complaints, though figuring everything out at the beginning might be a bit unpleasant for some.

What a pleasant surprise! This game is quite fun, easy to learn, easy to play, but has more depth than you might think. It's a great game to play a few minutes on a break or for an entire evening. It's relaxing to play and the artwork is very lovely.
