Is jsab an original concept? No not even close games where you move around and dodge things have been around since basically the birth of video games but god berserk knocked it out of the park and made it a blast to play

Also the story and artstyle, while simplistic, actually plays to its benefit and makes it so you can interpret it how you want to! And people do just look at the countless AU comics and fanart! It's a giant rabbit hole that honestly has been really enjoyable to go down for me personally

Amazing game, although levels where bullet hell is most of a level just ruins that level because it's difficult and annoying. My favorite level is probably spectra or interlaced. Highly recommend to everyone in general though!

the first 4 levels were fun but that boss is terrible. there's no feedback of when something is about to happen and there's no checkpoints making it super difficult (almost impossible for a new player) and not in a fun way. plus the game is over-priced. not sure if i'm going to refund or not since the game has tons of potential. if it were $10 i'd recommend it but 20 is too much.

Interesting plot, raged a couple of times, nice music, great difficulty, but the matchmaking isnt the best, 9.9 / 10

I absolutely love this game! The story is great, multiplayer is really fun, just the game in general! Just wondering, are you gonna add a new chapter or new story mode? I just want to say, you've really made a great game. Definitely play this game! Although there is competition with Geometry Dash :) Anyways great game guys! Definitely play this game

This is an amazing game and I have really enjoyed it. I am still playing it after grinding for five hours. Super fun, great music, and awesome graphics / Animations for a block game. Even for a low-end PC.

An incredibly addictive and enjoyable musical bullet-hell game, Just Shapes & Beats manages to surprise and delight with minimalistic graphics and just a few colors in a way i've seen very few other games accomplish. The soundtrack is absolutely a highlight of this experience, every song is a high octane electronic thrill ride from start to finish and set the stage for the challenging yet enjoyable levels throughout. I strongly recommend picking this game up to play either by yourself or with friends, you won't regret it. The only warning I must give is that there are a lot of flashing lights. Even with photosensitive mode on, it still might be a bit much for people so exercise caution. In terms of achievements, they aren't too hard but Grindcore requires a decent amount of online play to get 15,000 Beat Points. Thankfully, the endgame grind didn't stop me from enjoying this excellent masterpiece

There's not a lot to do in this game, but it's one of those games that you just can't put down. I love the music in this game and it's easy to control.

I really love this game! The music is amazing and the gameplay is very smooth and aesthetically pleasing! I love rhythm games and I'm glad that the visuals match the music beat so well! Even after you win, you can play again with a hard mode, and you can play lots of new songs on multiplayer!

i have never regretted buying a game more.
"just shapes and beats?" i said, "this seems like fun, fk it." and so i wasted 20 bucks on this stinky pile of trash of a video game. I feel like the devs threw feces at their keyboards until this game resulted in the code. Alright, so rythm game? No. Not at all. This is just a bullet hell game with a dash and you play as a shape. FUN! (music goes hard tho) but aside from that the gameplay is extremely boring and practically the same throughout every level. Please dont buy this game, it is so bad. Most boring 5 hours of my life.

All the chaos of dodging bullets in an arcade 'shmup synchronised to a criminally bopping soundtrack, plus a nice little minimalist narrative to boot.

A hectic, challenging game and a damn fun audiovisual experience.

If you like Music beat i will recommended you to purchase this game
personally think that this game needed to add more song because its just a few only, making it less enjoyable for a music game, but other than that personally think that everything i pretty good.

An absolute masterpiece and must-play, with a few issues.

My first playthrough was amazing.
Story mode is incredibly addictive, the artstyle is adorable and every character feels very lively, even though simplistic (for the better).

Song-wise, there's only bangers. Chiptune, EDM, once again really in touch with the uncluttered design.
Patterns are always on-point. Special shoutout for "Try This" by Pegboard Nerds, these patterns gave me chills!
Hard mode is also really fun! I appreciate the extra challenge, which is a way more technical take on regular stages (read: more bullets).

However, my game time in story mode was tarnished with a single but massive issue: boss battles.

Usually, these stages are the thing I love about video games. Unfortunately, these are completely different from regular levels, being straight up unfair.
Every other stage has telegraphs telling you where the attacks will come from. This is perfect, because we can use our reflexes to navigate through the patterns. And even if you mess up, there are checkpoints to set you a bit further back and correctly analyse these patterns you failed.

Boss battles are, without any exception, brushing all of that off and asking you to learn every single pattern before being able to clear the stage. No checkpoints. No telegraphs for the boss' movements. Strangely enough, the true last boss is the easiest by far, with only one barely unavoidable attack (which is telegraphed extremely quickly, but asking you to dive in bullets above disappearing right on time). Yes, it is hard, but not as unfair as the others.
For all the reasons above, I didn't have any shame activating Easy Mode only for these stages, even though most of my first tries on regular stages were A-rank.

The second downside would be unlockables/achievements.
Grinding achievements/unlockables were never fun to begin with, and never will. While I understand the will to create a sense of progression post-story with extra songs, the grind is... truly unnecessary. 15k points for the last one, when a stage in average can award you up to 80 in Hard + Challenge mode when played perfectly, makes it around 200 plays just to get that last achievement. Double that number if you're playing in Normal.

I love scoring, don't get me wrong. But for all of those reasons, the game does not help me getting addicted and play it over and over like other scoring games does.

Would I still recommend it? Absolutely!
These things are quite unfortunate, but this review is here to warn you about what may be frustrating during your play time.
Nevertheless, this is one hell of a great game, polished to its finest details. Whether you like rhythm games, bullet hells or want to get your hands on a new experience if you never played any, this is the game for you.

Great job devs!

Short Version: I don't like the singleplayer elements, but I LOVE the multiplayer. This game is very well-made and has a lot of love put into it, and I would highly recommend it if any of the gameplay you've seen fits your style. The music is all Electro/Chiptune and the such, with a few cameos like Spider Dance and Mortal Kombat. I couldn't give you an objective rating of the difficulty, but some levels in the campaign took me 5+ retries, so I'd say it can be hard at times.

Long Version:

I really didn't care for the singleplayer. I couldn't tell you what, but something just didn't mesh with me when playing alone. I completed the entire campaign and extra stage (albeit, somewhat reluctantly) and then set about collecting all the achievements. For a while, achievement hunting was my only motivation to play the game—that is, until I tried the multiplayer.

Something about playing with other people—seeing them make mistakes alongside you, dancing around during the levels, doing random stuff in the lobby—it made the game a hell of a lot more fun. It's amazing how much interaction there can be between players when everyone is just a shape.

The game does actually have a "Story Mode" with a world map separating each level. There isn't much to the story, but it isn't bad. It can get surprisingly dark at times, especially with my favourite level and song of the game; Annihilate by Destroid, featured as the final stage. This level and many others capture what is, in my opinion, the main selling point of this game: the care and creativity with which each level is made. Even with how frustrated I got in some of the singleplayer levels, I couldn't help but be impressed by how well they utilised the songs, a perfect example of which would be Try This by Pegboard Nerds.

Speaking of the songs, let's talk about the music. I actually knew and regularly listened to virtually every song in this game before finding it, and the only reason I ended up playing the game was because I constantly saw it being mentioned in Danimal Cannon and Sabrepulse's comments sections. As such, there's not a single song I've found in the game that I dislike. Being a fan of Electro and Chiptune myself, that's not much of a surprise, but if you're not a fan of those genres of music (or perhaps you don't know what type of music "Electro" is), then I would recommend listening to Milky Ways by Bossfight for a general overview of what type of music you'll be hearing. You could also just buy it, try the first few stages, and refund it if it's not your style.

That's about all I've got to say. Remember to subscribe to my desktop computer, retweet my IHOP Customer Rewards card, and most importantly; play TF2.

Just shapes and beats is a game about shapes and beats where you completes the amazing feats with the amazing beats. Overall it is a really fun game (more fun to me then Geometry Dash in my opinion but mainly because I suck at Geodash). The beats are imacculate, they are bops and they are based, have a good day.

I'd say if you like 99% wordless songs in a difficult game about avoiding "red thingies" as I would call them. the "red thingies" go perfectly to the beat of the songs and this is a game of rage, fun, and the thought of: "i'm about to smak dhis computahs skreen frooh de stratospher" good game highly reccomend.
