Short but fun adventure game inspired by classic LucasArts adventures.
The art style and humor are great. I had fun reading all the dialogue. The game reminds me a bit of Monkey Island.
The puzzles are a decent challenge. The only downside is that there is no audio for the dialogues except for the German version, which was added in a recent update.

Kudos to the developers for supporting and updating this game after all these years.

Excellent nostalgic graphic adventure. Nice music, puzzles and humor. I only missed the voices, although the characters were very well represented via text (even accents).

A surprisingly good indie point and click adventure game in the style of the old school classics (namely, Monkey Island). The puzzles were inventive (for the most part) and the art style/music was great. All in all, a wonderful nostalgic experience for anyone who loves adventure games. It has a hardcore mode for adventure game veterans (which I personally recommend playing), and a casual mode for people new to adventure games. The humour is a bit quirky, but it made me smile. The only downside is the game's length. I finished it in 5 hours, without having to check a walkthrough. I recommend buying this while it's on sale. For 5€ it was worth it.

This game is pure uncut fun, it feels like a Space Quest successor - dorky character on a space adventure filled with loads of humour.

The 2D art is amazing, character animation is very fluid and pleasant to the eye, the music is enjoyable, it greatly enchances the experience. The game interface is very clean and intuitive, the puzzles involve gathering and using a lot of objects but are not overly complicated. There isn't such a thing as pixel hunting involved, but some objects can remain cleverly concealed in the environment until you take time to examine them.

The only thing to disappoint is that dialogues, no matter how funny, are not voiced over. There isn't an abundance of text to read but a point-and-click adventure game usually benefits greatly from a decent voice acting. I personally grew up playing text-only adventure games and don't find the lack of voices that much of a letdown.

Overall, Kaptain Brawe is an unforgettably pleasant experience.

This game is fun for what is there. But what is there is not much. I was stumped twice in this game, and did not consult any sort of hint system or walkthrough, and I still beat it in 75 min. If this game was 3 times longer, it would have been a great game. As it is.... it's good for 3 dollars. I bought it 75% off for 5 bucks, and I still think it was overpriced.

Edit- Upon reading other reviews, I will say this game tried, and I don't have bitter memories of playing it, I just wanted a little more, that's all. There were aspects I enjoyed, I just wished it had been better.

Worth a few bucks, not a bad Kings-Quest type Click through game, although many of the puzzles seemed too esoteric, and with all click-throughs you'll have to hunt around alot.. there's walkthroughs published you might need to reference as well.

This is hillarious. The Kaptain guy os so stupid but you can't help but like him.

Some parts of this frustrated me, like when i got stuck on a level and had to restart it just to see what i missed!!! ..... >_< Sorry.

But otherwise, great game concept, very funny and pretty interesting. About a 8/10 in my book.

The point-and-click adventure genre has been very much ignored for the past several years, so when a good one comes around, it's actually hard to find.

Take Kaptain Brawe--this game was out for, I think, a year, before I even knew it existed, let alone decided to buy it on a whim. It's actually quite good. Your perspective changes from characters over the game, the humor is solid, and the puzzles actually make quite a lot of sense, even the more complicated ones that you'd find in chapter 2.

I strongly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the P&C adventure genre.

Excellent graphics for an indie adventure game. Unfortunately no speech and a little bit short (took me about three hours in the full adventure mode). Still a fun game with a decent story.

A nice point and click adventure that really presents the old Lucas Arts games a challenge.

A point and click adventure game, not a bad one but it suffers from some minor translation problems. The dialog is all done through text so you need to be prepared to actually read it to understand what your doing. Very much in the style of the original Monkey Island, it is quite short however.

Great little adventure game highly reminiscent of the Monkey Island series, especially number 3 in terms of art style. The dialogue is fun and locations all look good which more than makes up for the (mostly) simple puzzles. It's definitely geared more towards the casual gamer but I think there's enough enjoyment here for someone more hardcore about their puzzle adventures.

It seems the game is trying to be similar to Monkey Island, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Imitation is sometimes considered flattery afterall. But, I will say, sometimes the dialogue just makes not much sense, while humorous at times, its sometimes a bit flat. Also, the story has some serious holes in it. Sometimes plot holes can be excused, but these are of the severe type that if you catch them you'll be wondering, "Where did he come from?" or "How does he know all of this?" And its never explained later on how one of the characters knows what he knows(which would have been acceptable).

But if you want something quick, and easy and it requires a little bit of brain power (some puzzles are okay, some are a bit...odd, for lack of a better word) then this game is for you. However, I don't think its worth ten dollars for its length. Perhaps $4.99.

Started off as a fun and goofy adventure game with some genuinely difficult puzzles, even on casual mode. Ended with a really rushed, nonsensical, and not to mention pretty offensive ending that just left a sick taste in my mouth (it includes a crossdressing joke and the main villain getting creeped at when they get put in prison. Yeah.) In addition, it's pretty short, so there's not even enough content in between that to make it seem miniscule.

Let's just say this is an average game. It would have been really better with voices...
My advice : buy it in promo, as it is really short.

Step into the world of interstellar travel, where Space Pirates lurk at every corner. Kaptain Brawe, a Space Police officer will embark on a journey filled with quests, conspiracies and general chaos, as he follows the lead of two kidnapped alien scientists.

Set in a beautiful, hand drawn alternative 19th century world, Kaptain Brawe's cartoon appearance will suit younger, as well as mature players, who enjoy games filled with humorous storyline and challenging puzzles.

It's a fun little point-and-click adventure similar to the LucasArts games of the early '90s. It is obvious from some UI quirks that it was designed for phones/tablets, but it plays just fine on PC.

I wouldn't call it a must play, but if you see it on sale, give it a shot.

Kaptain Brawe is a reminder that not all adventure games are equal…in fact, some really suck. No, it’s no Jolly Rover, but it’s no Maniac Mansion, either. But dammit if it doesn’t try. You can switch between characters, it has a somewhat similar look and feel to Curse of Monkey Island if it was fused with the later Space Quests…but it doesn’t entirely work. The puzzles often don’t make much sense and as a result, you have a lot of obscure puzzles mixed with a bit of ho-hum dialogue. You could certainly do a lot worse (Jolly Rover), but it’s not entirely terrible.

Honestly, for the price, I MIGHT recommend it…but only if you really, really like point and click adventure gaming.

bliss

Rather short but well made adventure game. The humour, graphics style and music seem heavily inspired by Monkey Island and The Dig. The quality of these, in addition to the animations, are quite high.

It only took 5 hours to complete, which included getting stuck for an hour on a puzzle where you have to pick up an invisible item which is a part of the foreground scenery. That one part slightly tainted an otherwise well designed game.

Another potential deterrent for some is the lack of voice acting, exacerbated by the dialogue being difficult to read due to the choice of writing style and font, as well as some slightly imperfect English localisation.

All in all, it was easy to look past the small number of imperfections and enjoy a well made adventure.

Well.. A some sort good adventure.
Basically , the whole adventure is only 2 long and HARD riddles (50% of the game or more).
Everything else is just EASY!

I was NOT so fond of the game. But it has some fun time.
Still it misses the voices sounds. Like the VERY first adventures.

For time killing is Good. Still those 2 riddles will be very tiresome with NO reason.
The game uses the modern phylosophy of adventures in cases and confuses you.
You can grab things from the environment BUT to use them sometimes it needs
you to really have a plan or understand what you're doing. And even if you DO
know in some case you have to have a clue in the game to show it, else the
riddle is locked and SO on the progress...

There was a time that I examined a thing in a previous chapter and I needed
to do it again in a next one to unlock the riddle. Really tiresome with NO reason!

Some good points.
There is a chhoice in the menu about the subtitles so they end with a click and
you MISS nothing.
Another one that I liked is the achievements. They DON'T cover ONLY the progress
of the game but still the funny points that you may see or NOT according to your
decisions in the play. So, keep your saves in case you need to replay to see
what you have lost , because that's way you play adventures.. FUNNY PLAY!!!

Anyway.. For the experience and the hard ADVENTURERS, the "Masochistic" Ones...

This is a pretty fun point&click adventure game. It has nice writing, decent puzzles, and a main character reminiscent of Buzz Lightyear.

Kinda short though, lacks voice acting, and the art resolution is only 1024x768.

I'd say get this one on a sale, and if you're a point & click adventure game fan you won't be disappointed.

Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World is a comedic point and click (PnC) puzzle adventure game with no voice overs. For people who enjoy PnC games like the classic Lucas Arts games (Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max), you'll feel right at home with the controls and humor. For those who aren't too familiar with PnC games, this is a decent introduction to the genre. The game offers two different modes, casual and adventure, depending on if you want clues or not. The clues offered in casual mode are mostly useless, unless you really don't pay any attention to what you have to do. There are two pixel hunts throughout the entire game that threw off my rhythm (not too bad compared to other games). Most of the puzzles are pretty intuitive. The overall story and gags aren't as good as what you would expect from the Lucas Arts games, but it still was fun overall, and you can get through the game in under 3 hours if you are sharp on detail.

Bottom line, get it if you are a big fan of the Lucas Arts series, or if you are new to the PnC adventures. It isn't one of the best games, but it is fun and humorous none the less.

Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World is a point & click game in the style of old LucasArts classics.
While the idea behind the game is good, the final product strikes me as somewhat unpolished.

The comical – sometimes satyrical – plot is interesting, but very short, making up for less than five hours of gameplay.

Presentation is good, overall: while the absence of voicework may sound – or rather, not sound – strange to players of modern works in the genre, dialogues are well written and the artwork is beautiful.

Gameplay is mostly good. I have one significant complaint, however: game modes should be better explained in the selection screen. In my playthrough, I chose "Casual" mode, believing "Hardcore" was this game's version of Monkey Island 3's "Mega Monkey" mode: extended puzzles, providing replayability. And the ambiguos description allows such conclusion.
However, it is basically a choice between interfaces: "Hardcore" features a multi-interaction cursor reminiscent of Full Throttle, while "Casual" simplifies interactions by giving only one choice (as seen in several titles, like the Broken Sword series and The Book of Unwriten Tales).
Had I understood it better, I'd definitely have chosen the former over the later.

Kaptain Brawe is, in hindsight, a diamond in the rough: decent, has great potential, but could benefit immensely from a remake and/or spawn a truly amazing sequel... Or sequels.
Too bad two consecutive efforts by Cateia Games to crowd-fund Kaptain Brawe 2: A Space Travesty through Kickstarter failed, despite attachment of point & click veterans Steve Ince and Bill Tiller to the project.
We can only hope the developers don't give up, as there's surely much to be missed.

The characters move their mouthes but I am not getting sound on speech. It's too distracting to actually enjoy the game.

Kaptain Brawe tried to boldly go where others have been before and partially succeeds. I loved the cartoonish style and the throwback to the golden era of gaming, but unfortunately that's where it stops short. The game is not very long (about 7-8 hours), but it's a decent experience overall. The problem is, it could have been much better if it had better story development, more fully-fleshed characters and more entertaining puzzles. I love point and click adventure games, but if I spend too much time combining things at random and when I get bored and look for the walkthrough I don't go "Damn, I should have thought about that!", but instead "WTF!", well, that takes away from the gaming experience. To be fair, there are some fun puzzles, that actually add to the story, but I wish there were more of them and more story development to begin with.
I always wonder when I see a game like this, why it fell short of it's potential? For indie projects I assume it's all about the budget, but still... I would recommend this game only for P&C fans and when it's on sale.

This game was rather enjoyable. I feel like this game is a very good starting point if you are new to point and click adventure games. The reason for this is the game is not too difficult, but there are some pretty good puzzles that make you think (I believe the puzzles are what define this style the most, since other aspects are easily found in other styles of games). I think that there are some games out there that take the puzzles too far to the point of frustration for veteran point and click adventure gamers, as well as those new to these games. For someone like me, I can live with some of these less desirable parts because I have witnessed some truly astounding games of this style! But sadly for some newcomers, they leave before they can see the great aspects that these types of games have to offer. Therefore, I think this game is a good safe start if you are looking to try out these types of games.

On a more negative note, the game sadly was not a very long one, which in turn made the story very short and a little bit under developed. The story turned out to be decent enough, but remember I said decent, not "the greatest thing since sliced bread". I was also not super into the style of the art and design of the game, but while I wasn't into how the game looked I have to admit that I think many people would enjoy the art of the game and many would also consider the art to be quite good. One last thing that you will have to live with is reading text. No voice acting. Again, not something that someone who played any of the older Sierra and Lucasarts games would have a problem with, but others might.

So while this game does not fall in my top tier of point and click adventure games, I didn’t feel like it had any glaring problems either and I do believe that the game is worth a try for fans old and new. If you have some spare time pick up this game, sit back, relax, and enjoy your next voyage in space.

Gotta tell you... As a longtime fan of the genre, I typically love any game that follows the classic point and click RPG format of King's Quest, Kyrandia, Full throttle, etc. I love that these games are coming back, with a great resurgence in the Tell Tale games series, The Silent Age, and more. However- Kaptain Brawe just sucked. While the artwork is nice and certainly original, the puzzles have remarkably little logic. A lot of the game made no sense, and seemed to depend upon you having some innate knowledge that simply hadn't been imparted by the story. It's also way too short for what you pay. I appreciate that the designers may have been trying to pay homage to the classics, but Kaptain Brawe is simply not worth your money.

Pros:

+ Good art (Reminds me Monkey Island).
+ Decent gameplay overall.

Cons:

- I get C++ R6025 error all the time, game was crashing so it was painful to play the game.
- No voiceovers.
- Very short.
- Animations are very bad.
- Story was uninteresting.
- Achievements are only for in-game.

Verdict: Only buy this game when its on discount. Not so good, not so bad.

While the art and voice acting are well done, the story falls pretty flat, and the puzzles along with the overall atmosphere of the game make Kaptain Brawe feel like it was made more for a younger audience.

No voice acting, all speech is just text. I stopped after 2 minutes because I find adventure games rubbish if there are no actual voices doing the speech.

the game looks lovely, i enjoyed the story, the controlls are easy to use. Loveable main character.

Cons: every single alt-tab command causes the game to crash, at least in my case.

So, I've played this game way back when with some friends and I have to say a couple things.

The art is gorgeous.
The animation is acceptable but not amazing.
The gameplay ranges from "I knew it" to "%$$%&".
The story was ok but would have been much better if it were a series.
Length. Short, almost too short but for the frustrations with the gameplay.

Overall I will give it a 6 or 7 but with a firm warning. Buy on sale and be prepared to watch a walkthrough to get through the ice level.

If you're a fan of classic point and click adventures there are other better options out there. As others have mentioned, the lack of voice acting is unfortunate but spoken dialogue wouldn't be enough to save this game and I think hearing actors have to recite Brawe's nonsensical puns and misogynistic lines would further count against this games quality. The puzzles are a bit too simplistic even on Challenging Mode to the point that it feels like you're just clicking through until the end.

Very short (I completed it in 4-5 hours) but an enjoyable point and click adventure. Good cartoonish graphics and funny enough: some players may be annoyed by the lack of voice dubbing, but I personally didn't miss it. On the plus side, even though there's no Linux version, it works perfectly on Proton.
