Reminded me of Gray Dawn but I didn't like it as much as I did the former one. There were a lot of nonsensical, cringe and comical scenes, as well as discrepancies in the plot that broke the immersion for me. Poorly coded, made pc fans run like crazy the entire time even though graphics are nothing to write home about - they are vibrant, that's all, but people are not animated, they speak with their mouth shut, etc. Voice for the devil was funny because he was pronouncing everything with sh instead of s. I didn't find any of of this creepy, but there were couple of jump scares at one point.

Overall, game is linear and puzzles are pretty easy, if you are stuck start retracing your steps as something new often pops out where you have already been. Story is a bit over the top in my opinion as it mashed up too many different genres together. It's a really cheesy game with easy to figure out formula that you repeat throughout and is focused on religious and dystopian themes. Took 3 hours to complete.

This may seem like a great supernatural mystery, but at the same time its probably one of the most Christian games out there. I don't mean "a bible game", but a game acually dealing with the mysteries of Christian religion. It takes theme's concerning sin, redemption, justice, mercy, man as his own god, loss, a fallen world, temptation of power and sex and blends all these elements and more into a great cohesive original story. I have to say I'm very pleasently surprised at the (spiritual) depth on offer in this game.

If at all any of the religious/existential themes resonate, or even if you are just in it for a gripping mystery with some dashes of horror, jump right in. Highly recommended.

Aw man it's killen me to post a negative review because I really Love adventure, point-n-click, mystery etc games. I can't understand why everyone is saying the graphics are so amazing?? Sure they're really cool and nice but the amount of grossness is beyond ridiculous to the point it's comical.

The crazy part is the trailer and screen shots actually make it look kind of cozy. The 1st chapter was pretty cool but it went downhill from there.

The worst sins with this game are:
The amount of locked doors
Just wandering around aimlessly, not knowing what to do or click next
The absence of any map or hint system
And worst of all, NOT being able to click on objects right NOW,
but being able to click on them LATER! This is beyond infuriating!
Plus there are things to click on such as cabinets to open which never yield anything of use!

Once you got out of the claustrophobic house, the field puzzles were kind of just okay, almost MYST like.

I'm glad there were other characters as I don't really like alone games. That said, they behaved very strangely, especially given the insane nature of their surroundings. Then they would just leave an area without warning for no reason and appear randomly somewhere else. You could sometimes hear them but then have to wander around the house again aimlessly to find them.

On the bright side some of the tapes and videos were pretty cozy. And it was great being able to radio other people from time to time. But there's just not enough here to warrant a good, cohesive game. I'm sure the author had a solid story to tell; it's a shame the graphics team couldn't pull it off.

I don't know what happen,or what to wait out of this.

After the first earquack a lot of thing happen. A LOT
Between the moment the siblings reunite in the dining room (the sister dress hint of what happen some minutes after, and that nice) and the arrive of the best friend (I wanted to made her eat here damn caméra) 5 min after it happen, well without spoiling anything, let say there are more things to proced.

They're some of the moments that are so absurd that it made me laugh. I don't know if it was too serious for what was going on or just to st upid.

I would say hello to the free asset I suposed since I some of place and objets in others game ; thanks to the efforts to make them original, I didn't have see the tank yet.

A little rough around the edges, but very enjoyable overall.
It's more walking sim with puzzles and a few jump-scares that full-on horror.
Also, there's no combat or dying/failing.
The style and aesthetic are spot on.
Some of the characters seem to 'under-react' to some of the strangeness, and a few things are left unexplained, but otherwise the story is interesting with some decent twists and turns.
it's about 4 hours long. It tells the story efficiently without wasting your time. It doesn't over-stay it's welcome and keeps a reasonable pace. They could have expanded it a little more and given more details and world-building, but I think it's fine as-is.
On the plus side for the short-ness, I am planning to replay it to hunt for achievements. I don't do that for all my games, but this one seems reasonable.

The voice acting and the animations can be a bit amateurish but are passable. I'm pretty forgiving for indie works.

Overall, I like it. If you seem to like the setting and theme from the trailer, give the prologue a try.

I initially purchased this game to play it live at halloween on Twitch, the game sure was not what I was expecting at all. More than a horror game, it reminds me of graphic adventures with crime elements such as Still Life, or Sherlock Holmes, with a touch of Alone in the Dark, maybe even Heavy Rain elements. The presentation is very well achieved, specially for an indie game, with a heavy eastern european mood and feel, and some of the locales bear colorful christian orthodox imagery wich is something you don't get to see much.

The gameplay doesn't have as much horror as it may originally seem, playing more like a 1st person point and click adventure, only in 3D. You move around in your mother's apartment, and ocasionally in open forests and orthodox churches, looking for the next clue, puzzle (some of them being very complex), or interactable object to add to your inventory. Sometimes it even reminded me of Riven, because, being unfamiliar with that kind of setting, world and machinery, I honestly had to figure out what to do by exploring and getting hints from the environment itself.
If there is one thing that made me frown a little was how sordid the world Lazarus inhabits is. Everyone seems to be, at the very least, morally dubious. Nobody is safe from becoming absoluteluy derranged, and even the main character himself has some backstory in which he admits to having done some very scumbaggy things. There are not so veiled themes of war crimes, child abuse and death, sexual exploitation and abuse... etc.

There is a domestic cat in the apartment though which becomes the bastion of inocence and calmness in this mad world of body horror and infestation. The very first thing you do when you see it is hug the little furry thing and I always go back to it as a pillar of sanity in this derranged world the game presents.

Played on Linux using Proton Exp, Really nice adventure/puzzle game, Not so much horror, no jump scares, but still a very good Game, with a somewhat original Story.

Graphics are really good, Sound and Voices are Great, Game Play is pretty great too and puzzles are not to hard or some can be solved with random clicking, well just 1 puzzle i had to do that with, Game last about 3 to 4 hours, longer if you want all the achievements.

100% Recommended on Linux using Proton.

Strange, but I like it. What's not to like: tanks, explosions, ghosts, robots, a cat, a demonic manifestation, and much more. All this in the beautiful natural settings of Romania, Count Dracula's country!

But unfortunately, the game also has a serious flaw, namely, that it does not always indicate what it wants from the player. It's more than certain that you'll get stuck at some point of the game. Well, to err is human.

Story-wise, this game is incredibly confused and appears to have been written in segments by separate groups without communication between any of them. I can piece the story together but a lot simply is not explored enough or is never wrapped up. Other characters are never developed enough either, and are sometimes in the way causing an annoyance. All of them appear at random and some just magically appear (you'll know what I mean if you play the game) causing a "how the heck did you did here?" response, and it is hilariously goofy.
Most puzzles were very fun to go through with one or two either partially seeming like a needless time-sink, or I just personally wasn't good enough to solve them for a while.
The graphics are quite beautiful, it is clear a lot of time and effort went into creating this game, and this part comes off as the main focus of the project.
The protagonist is nonredeemable however, he's awful in how he handles situations, treats his family, and his utter greed in almost every scenario. The tasks necessary to complete sections also seems completely random/disjointed sometimes, it reminds me a little of early-day games with their item gathering. The exploration involved can be rather satisfying, even if I have no idea about the 'what' or 'why' of the situation.
It is also, simply put, pure chaos at points. It is weird, confusing, and wonderfully goofy.
Containing a lot of gore, the opening scene really sums it up quite simply what you're in for with this game. You will either love it or hate it.

Ultimately, this game is terrible in many ways and great in many ways. I love it.

This game FAR exceeded my expectations! The graphics are brilliant and the story was very captivating. Usually when I play first person story games I'm just racing to the end, but because the atmosphere and surroundings were so beautifully rendered, I enjoyed taking my time looking for items and objects to interact with.
I'd highly recommend this game if you want to experience an original chilling story, it's unlike anything I've encounterd anyway. Looking forward to booting up their free game on steam, The Unluckiest Man.

You play as Lazarus, a man that has been away from his family for too long. He comes back to his mother’s house and finds out the horrible things have happened to his family and to the city.

It is a relatively short and straightforward game, not difficult nor scary.

What got me interested in this game was the detailed art seen in the trailer, and it was refreshing to see creators promoting Bible passages in a game.

Last Days of Lazarus is essentially a walking simulator with a little bit of puzzle solving to push the narrative along. The characters you encounter throughout are all a little strange and the story itself is a highly religious take about the coming of the End of Days. The story is spread over eight, relatively short chapters, which I think mostly makes sense though is certainly a little on the weird side, particularly character interactions. There's a decent collectibles hunt that'll stretch out your playtime if you're into that sort of thing, but if not, the game is pretty short and not all that challenging.

Overall, I think I liked Last Days of Lazarus, though it's short and full price might be a bit too much for what you're getting. This is a game that you can probably finish in just a few hours, or a little more if you go for the collectibles without a guide as I did.

Jadelor

Man, that religion sure is full of gilded trinkets.

As for a more serious review, it's a short first-person horror adventure with an Orthodox religious backdrop in post-Soviet Eastern Europe. I'm completely unfamiliar with all of it and the rituals, holy places and living quarters *all* have that extreme, appealing strangeness to me.

For example, someone with a lot of Western horror titles under their belt would instantaneously be misdirected by assuming the main character is either dead or insane. You know, that boring old unreliable witness shtick. All of the characters seem unfazed and laconic, fitting well in the oddness of things. Spaces are cramped and narrow and everything bathes in either cold white winter sun or some kind of late-evening golden light. And then there's the guitar soldier.

It's a weird little game with a lot of oddly-fitting pieces and a huge amount of polish (like a LOT LOT MORE than the usual, if you've played walking simulators before). The escalating plot pieces and THE GUITAR SOLDIER might make you go pleasantly "huh" a bunch of times.

Recommended. Am going to check out the similar-mooded Gray Dawn right away.

This is a tough review to leave. This game is NOT for everyone, but those who enjoy Waking Sims/Mystery games will like it.

The good
- Amazing, AAA graphics running at 300fps on 2080 i9900 laptop. Rivals some of the best out there and the frame rate is unbelievably smooth. Kudos to the programmers.
- Very few reused textures, almost no clipping.
- The story line is solid, doesn't mock religion, is biblically 'solid' (at least from an orthodox viewpoint)
- I was never stuck in any puzzle, despite being bad at puzzles
- I never needed a walk through, and managed to find all collectibles, get 89% of the achievements, and completed the game in one sitting

The bad
- Voice over is terrible, especially at the beginning. I would have prefered a VO subtitled in English, but the option is not present.
- The graphics, while great, really push on the chromatic abheration, lens flare, particle effects, and so on - to the point of absurdity
- The 2d elements are .. poor, in particular in the marketing of the game.
- A lot of situations arise that defy the storyline and make you wonder 'what just happened'. Example: At one point, the main character you play decides to spend the night in a flat with : 2 mutilated dead bodies, the murder scene of his sister, blood everywhere, and monster creatures creeping out of every wall- weird!

Conclusion

It's a thumb up on sale. The graphics salvage it, and the collecting is fun. The storyline is engaging, but it's very short. I think it's correctly priced, and I enjoyed it - but I look forward to their next title for a better voice acting, a less linear pathing, and better character animations.

While I first must admit that this is honestly not the type of game or story line that I was expecting; It's a decent game that won't take too much time for you to finish it (unless you happen to get stuck in some peculiar parts like I did).

It does not deserve a bad review, but at the same time I feel like it wasn't very memorable and it's characters simply came and went. One of the reasons of why I bought this game was because of a character named "Laura."
I thought that she was going to be a very mysterious and interesting character (she sort of was at the beginning) but I was mostly left disappointed with how her story unfolded. And without giving any spoilers, I didn't feel like she ended up being neither a good hero nor a good villain. The story was also a lot more focused in religious supernatural stuff than I would have wanted, because I first thought that it was going to be like a detective story with a paranormal twist but it's basically ONE HUNDRED PERCENT supernatural...

Well, this is a positive review but it's like a 6 out 10 type of "positive review."

Like I said earlier: I don't think this deserves a bad review, but not an extraordinary positive review either.

Beautiful game, a bit of a clickfest/hidden object search though. I agree with the reviewer who said they felt like they were just constantly looking for the next thing to click on to advance the story. I was wandering through the cemetary towards the end of the game for what felt like ages.

I found the story compelling, the music was beautiful, all in all a pleasant enough experience. Maybe get it on sale though.

moosegiblets
moosegiblets

The story as a whole was very good, combined with the music towards the end of the game it became very powerful for me at least. Graphically very colourful. I had to manually cap my fps at 60 through nvidia control panel as the game had me at 240 fps which overheats after a few minutes. I took my time having a good look around in all chapters/area's. The game took almost 7 hours to complete. I Missed a few collectables so I'll be replaying it.

manywhelps
manywhelps

the English VA is terrible, the game is just a hunt for the next thing to click on and the characters are wooden and uninteresting and there is nothing scary in this game. i understand it is trying to be like a fever dream but it misses the mark on creepiness and just gives you the uncanny valley.

when i realised i was running up and down the maps just looking for the next thing to click to progress the story i was not interested in, i realised it was time to stop. if you are going to do what effectively is a hidden object game, you might as well make the click points glitter to save the constant need to run your cursor over the entire scene for that one item to click. Also don't do the thing of objects being non-clickable until some progress point is reached, another time wasting design approach.

i have no idea what i am trying to achieve in this game, but i am not compelled enough to find out.

great game. kinda like lust from beyond without the R18. there is gore and very simple puzzles and jumpscares,

the game seems alright so far im just so very confused.

all the npcs seem to have russian based accents which makes sense, since the game is based in russia
but all the main characters have horrible, just porntier level english accents and im so fucking confused.

like there are genuinly scary/spooky things that happen and our MC is like "oh no, what is this?" in the most monotone empty voice i have ever heard.

im just confused

why waste i would assume money on russian accented actors for all ur npcs but not the MC's

it really brings down the horror vibe, honestly i would ask for a no VA option.

Video Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY6qJckCyMA

The game centers around a dysfunctional Romanian family that came unraveled after their father left mysteriously and never returned years ago. The eldest son Lazarus left the country and now does likely criminal work to support his family back home, but he seldom visits and doesn’t provide the emotional support his mother and sister need. Meanwhile his mother has gradually lost her mind since her husband left, and eventually hangs herself in a closet.
Lazarus misses the funeral because of his work, arriving home 10 days later on New Year’s Eve of the year 2000. You find the family apartment empty except for the family cat. You find pills belonging to your sister and crazed notes from your mother scattered about. Then you receive a call you’re your sister Lyudmila who’s still at her mother’s gravesite, despite the late hour. But as she’s speaking to Lazarus on the phone, an apparition appears behind him that looks just like her. Something is very wrong here and once you find a monstrous presence has overtaken the apartment, it’s up to you to save what’s left of your family amidst this siege. Before we get into gameplay and my criticism of the narrative proper, I do want to be up front about how much I initially liked how the story shaped up. The mystery is very grim and gritty and kept me luridly interested for the first couple chapters. The gameplay was fluid and unobtrusive and I was able to keep the game’s events at the front of my mind, pondering their horror and wondering what would happen next. It wouldn’t last but we’ll get to that later. The gameplay propelled me forward nicely, complementing and never overshadowing the narrative’s momentum.
GAMEPLAY
Gameplay fares better than most walking simulators, as this game basically lets you jog around and not waste time. The game typically has that PT style of go everywhere and click on everything until a scripted thing happens but at least the game tries to help by making interactable objects glow yellow if your cursor hovers over them. Unfortunately, some items can be easily missed like this bathroom sink off to the back left of everything else you’d already clicked on. Not only that, but sometimes you can think you’re wrong in identifying an important story item and move on, confused because of how many times the game won’t respond to your clicking input. There also some scripting glitches like one where I hadn’t seen an item I needed to take with me down to a basement area and once I got down there, the door sealed behind me. But since I didn’t have the item that was needed to solve the puzzle in the basement, the door would never open again to let me out and advance the story, so I had to restart the whole chapter since it had saved as soon as the door sealed behind me.
Another time I missed a phone call and so the next cutscene never triggered, nor did it ring again to give me another chance. The game also has a bad habit of not indicating what I should do next so I spent an extra hour or two searching for something to click and make something happen.
But the good news is that when things are working as they should, you’ve got some puzzles to solve that are more straightforward than Grey Dawn’s but some of which are light, feelgood type of interactions that keep the story going. You’ve got keys to find, sacred objects and various mixtures to stuff into these weird contraptions to make some magic Kool-Aid. It feels like you’re solving the Davinci Code or something and while it’s not challenging per se, it feels like you’re doing more than you are because of how cool everything looks as you slot it in and tinker around.
LEVEL DESIGN
To no one’s surprise at this point, it’s not just the puzzles that look great. Despite a large majority of the game taking place in an apartment, it gradually gets overrun by disgusting goop and monsters which all look pretty great when they’re not clipping through each other. Much like Grey Dawn, you’ll journey to indiscriminate places that take on a dream-like quality or even nightmarish one as you try to figure out why your father left, what he’s been up to, and what that means for your family. Icons are once again featured prominently in the environments as are a myriad of illuminated manuscripts and medieval looking vials and machinery. It’s what I’d expect to see littered about a Renaissance alchemist’s lab. This is what walking sims with limited interactivity need to have more of, something nice to look at while you roam. I’ll never understand the indie trope of “hey, look at this modern, suburban house or abandoned building with a couple assets to click on. Thrilled yet?”
THE NARRATIVE
There’s not a ton worth saying about how the game plays in terms of what you’re doing, as the game is more about what you’re experiencing as the world comes to life around you, so let’s revisit the game’s narrative and how it ultimately fares.
The story’s focus is on Lazarus and his family’s relationships, hinting at the ravages of Communism and war in Romania and how this is reflected in the various vices of each increasingly unhinged character. And while some may find it nostalgically similar in tone and structure to Silent Hill 2, as in how you’re meeting all these damaged people with sordid backstories, the dialogue unfortunately shares some of that work’s clumsiness and hokum. Much of its voice acting feels phoned in, literally, as if the actors aren’t being given a clear understanding of what scenario or visual they’re reacting to. Lazarus’s unconvincing cry of “this is disturbing” becomes a charmingly ironic understatement for the whole experience.
There’s also a comical amount of bad deeds, sordid sexual situations, and body horror that begin to feel cheap instead of shocking. Every character is guilty of some heinous crime within a scene of meeting them or they make wild behavioral changes on a whim. Then magic and robots appear, building to an out of place twist we mentioned in the spoiler section just a second ago. So while I appreciated the go-for-broke nature of these ideas, they’re implemented so indelicately and in such a rapid-fire manner that they undersell their own drama. It doesn’t help that the characters unconvincingly respond to the enormity of the horrors and earth-shattering events happening to them.
All told, the story tries way too hard to be edgy and spills out preposterously big details so fast that there’s no way a short game like this can properly build the suspense to settle the visually cool ending. But the journey is the fun here, not the destination, and the world is beautifully rendered and an exciting place to just be. While the story never quite lands its plane, the buildup of the actual mystery with all its gory detail is actually pretty cool, feeling a lot like the first Condemned game. It’s all very Se7en or something like that. The apartment’s a work of art, featuring incredible color contrast and the snowy battlefields and other areas are always a treat to look at. But y’know what the best thing is? When Lazarus realizes he finally is leaving the apartment for good to settle his affairs, he makes sure to find the pet carrier and take his kitty away from danger. And that’s the mark of a good dude, yknow what I mean?

A big mystery to solve in various locations - spiced with fine horror and supernatural events and some puzzles.... a good mixture! Religion or better extreme religiosity, mislead beliefs are the overall theme of the game.

Lazarus returns home and finds himself in a horror cabinet, that had been the family apartment. His sister is not home, where is she? What had reallyhappened to his mother? Where is his father... all these questions need investigation and our protagonist investigates. We learn the story of this family piece by piece in 8 Acts - for me it was really enjoyable, though I normally am not a fan of religious themes in games.

Highly recommended.

i can only suppose the director must've been on some good shit to pick the voice actor for lazarus
also buggy, the "gore" looks like a post-chipotle artwork

Our main character Lazarus says something along the lines of "I have no idea what's going on. I am lost," at some point, and I think that perfectly describes how I feel about this game. But in a good way. I think? At the very least, it's made itself completely unique from all those other indie horror games.

This is a very pretty adventure with a really good atmosphere. The colors are vibrant and feel really special and it felt really christmassy :-). The story itself seems a bit weird, but if you just let yourself fall into it, it's immersive and in the end almost everything is answered. The voice actors are mostly okay for an indie game. Not the best, but likeable.

This is now one of my most favourite adventure games!

I will recommend this game but wow this game is Weird.
I give it a 7/10, took me 4 hours to beat.

The Good: The atmosphere, graphics, some parts of the story, a few legit scares, mostly in the first half of the game.
The Bad: Many times in the second half of the game you will be walking around in circles with no idea what to do. Some of the puzzles are super confusing and hardly make sense. The story is all over the place and hardly makes sense.

Overall I still had fun with it.

It's hard to say whether or not I recommend this game. I guess, ultimately I do because the story is interesting and the gameplay is not too hard and not too easy, it's honestly just right. The ending leaves a little to be desired and seems to finish up pretty damn quick. I honestly thought I had much more to complete when I paused my playthrough to only have a little bit left. The lead up to the end is pretty good, but definitely has a let down of an ending. The biggest issue I have with this game is a set of bugs that are so bad, I almost didn't finish the game, but I wanted to know how it ended. For some reason, the game just kept stuttering and lagging when I was able to play the first 3 hours without an issue. It wasn't until I tried to relaunch the game to finish it that this began. I enabled VSync and that seem to make the issue go away, but the audio syncing was way off. I also got major stutters and lag in important parts at the end. The PC I use is a beast and I've been using it regularly for much more straining games, but this had so many problems. Not sure if it was a video card update that did this, but I can't find anyone else talking about these issues. It's a good game, but I think there might be a patch that is needed to fix this.

This was a wild ride. I loved the settings especially the apartment. It looked like a cross between Hoarders and The Antiques Roadshow. A wonderful glimpse into another cultural setting. There is a lot of religious iconography here too which I found very interesting.

The story is like some fantastical adult fairy tale you would find in an HOG as it moves along quickly and keeps your interest. Puzzles are fairly easy to figure out and there is a chapter replay option at the end to allow those achievement hunters to mop up the remaining challenges.

A fun weekend game with a touch of the occult, sex, and politics. Not for the kiddies.

The game is a great nonsense. Pastor comes and stands in the corner of the room calmly, while demons are around. Reporter also ignores deamons, like there is nothing. You can find thing, and can not pick if it is "not time came" for them. Of you click on something, there is no reaction if you click again. So, you are lost if it is not usable anymore, or just author decided to be silent about them anymore. Damn soviet union attributes are everywhere. Controls are like in water - it feels clumsy. Story really bad. Super bad. Not "bad ass", no no. Graphic is messy. A tpf of bugs- you can stuck easily in the corner, or at the helicopter (i guess helicopter is evil also and grabs you by the wing - and that is the reason to stuck). I was afraid to go near the edges, because then the only way to ptogress to restart chapter and avoid stuckable location. In short, I do not enjoy this game, not at all.

if you like a game with a unique story with a classic mystery game vibe then Last Days of Lazarus could be for you, there are puzzle and collectables and very rich colourful environments, i have been waiting for this game to release since i came across the prologue/demo and i wasn't disappointed, i had been looking for something unique and different with a good story and i definitely found it , don't expect this game to take 10 hrs though there is want to run through several times so you can get up to those hrs , its a short narrative driven story that will keep you in your seat till the End,

honestly cant wait for more from the Development Team ,

This game is incredible. I'm a big fan of Darkania Works' previous game, Grey Dawn. That game is amazing and you should play it, but Last Days of Lazarus is even better. I am shocked at how much more engaging this one is. There's horror, sci-fi, mystery, and melodrama in equal measures. I love the overarching military and horror/sci-fi combo. This General Zotov character has me very intrigued. Overall this game is really great. I'll update the review once I've finished it. Bravo to the devs.

Edit: Ok, I just beat it. REALLY good story. The whole game took me 5.1 hours. There is an Easter Egg in this game to a GrimTalin joint called The Adventures of Elena Temple, and you should go play that game. But yeah, the story, environments, characters, VO work, puzzles, and visuals are all absolutely excellent. My positive review still stands.

If you loved Gray Dawn as much as I did, Last Days of Lazarus is a no brainer. Highly recommended! It’s just as beautiful, bloody and twisted as the first game - you will love it! Part walking sim, part puzzler with fun collectibles and an interesting story. I just love these haunting, dark environments that the devs create. The sound was impeccable as well.

Also, each chapter becomes available as you play, to backtrack for any missing notes or relics. Everything you have already collected remains saved!

As I had played Gray Dawn before, I was exciting to me because I enjoyed the visuals, the gameplay and the story. I also liked how some parts of the story in the Last Days of Lazarus referenced the story of Gray Dawn to tie up some of the loose ends and there are touching emotional moments in the game as well as horrifying reveals of the dark secrets some of the characters have hidden in their life. Although there are different chapters with different collectables, the game mechanic lets you save your collection progress each time you start to replay a chapter. I really like the addition of the inventory and the collection in the menu. Overall, I really recommend this game as it is a thrilling experience and one of the most important artistic games.
To George, the developers at Darkania Works and Grimtalin,
Thank you!

A masterpiece. I love the feeling I get of Occultism, Lovecraftian, Esoteric stuff, all together. It´s one of those extreme rare games you hardly see on Steam, it deffently have its own style for sure. Not to mention the developers statement on FB: "We were moved by my mom's interpretation while recording the end credits song for Last Days of Lazarus. So happy I could immortalize her beautiful voice in the game!" That voice and song is a masterpiece itself as well ;)

As Alan Moore would have said "Art is, like magic, the science of manipulating symbols, words, or images, to achieve changes in consciousness."

A 10/10 from me.

I really loved Gray Dawn so I couldn't wait to get my hands on Last Days of Lazarus (same developer, different name). I'm happy to say that it was worth the wait and you should go play it right now. It's even more beautiful and haunting that Gray Dawn. I love the art with all the detailed environments, and the story is such a quirky melange you just have to love it.

I've got some more to go before I finish, but so far it's everything I was hoping for.

The game has an interesting story and the theme and graphics are meticulously crafted to carry on the story.
Now, I will take my time with the rest of the game, to stave off my creeped-out-o-meter.

Here's a quick review:
-I loved Gray Dawn, one of the DEVs previous games. LDOL is in that vein, and shows the game-making genius of the DEVs through and through.
-Superbly beautiful graphics, animation, and environments...SO much to look at, and it's all so very detailed. INdoors, outdoors, etc. Just lush; gorgeous and at times frightening.
-Fascinating story
-Appropriate (and at times haunting) incidental music
-Great environmental sound efx and sound design
-High quality main-character voice acting. I'm in chapter 4, and the only voicing that was grating to me (that is, playing the English-speaking game) was the soldier that the main character meets in Chapter 4 and asks him to examine the area (no spoilers)
-VERY fair price for such an in-depth adventure game that is so well-done.
-SO far (as mentioned, I've played the prologue and am deep into Chapter 4), I've found that I can save my progress at any point and the game picks up where I left off. SO: auto-save works great.
-Extra points for chapter replays once finished, or to go back and finish achievements, etc. I wish there were save SLOTS so player can go back and re-visit anywhere one has saved, but I"m OK with the game's auto-save and chapter replays.
-I'm very involved with the adventure so far and am enjoying the game...and the LOOK and SOUND of the game...immensely. There is no "hand-holding", so look around and examine things (I missed items needed to progress in certain areas, such as a large bell I needed to pick up to interact with in a tomb (for example), but if I'd looked UP I would have seen it. Very few "walls", but they are there. THere's STILL enough to examine and visually take-in all around you, so because of that the game world (inside or outside) feels more open-ended than it is.
-If you enjoyed Gray Dawn, don't hesitate to purchase LDOL. Even if you've never HEARD of Gray Dawn, buy this anyway; it's well worth it!
----Edited: just finished the game. WHAT an experience. I have to add (again, no spoilers): Chapter 6 , in the garden and forest, was some of loveliest scenery I've seen in ANY game.

After playing the prologue awhile back. I was intrigued with this game. After a long wait, I got to play through it. The story did not go in the direction I thought it was heading to with the prologue and that's not a bad thing. The puzzles aren't too hard that you will rage, and the gore can get very Dead Alive (1992).

This game is a steal for what they are offering it at.

If you're an achievement hunter, I wrote a full guide that you can follow as you play through the game.

I played the demo to this a while back and I was intrigued to explore this further. Just a couple of hours in and it doesn't disappoint. Firstly, there's an incredible amount of attention to detail, from the decor to hanging lanterns and religious icons, it all looks fantastic. Well optimised too - solid 60fps at 4k with epic settings, running on mid range PC. There are some additional puzzles which aren't mandatory to proceed but you'll gain collectables. Not too testing and some are trial and error. The dialogue is goofy at times and I'm not sure if it's intentional but it does make me laugh. I also wonder how Lazarus manages to access his apartment each time when there's bulbous growth and tentacles blocking the hallway. Took about 4 hours. 8/10.

It is hard to describe, it was difficult in some stages, but the art was exceptionally good, there was lots to do, and it was very playable (though I need help a couple of times). Well worth the small price charged, and I will be happy to try this team 's next effort. Added comment, I did finish the game, and might go back and try again, as I think I missed some things.

Visual delight even if the plot seemed a little inconsistent at times, such as Ludmilla not having enough money although Lazarus commented that he sent his mother and sister money and gifts. Puzzles were not too bad as I'm a little slow in putting puzzles together but bumbling around tended to find the solution.

This game was a pretty solid. The game clocks in around 4 hours for total 100% completion which is not difficult at all to obtain. I had no clue what I was getting myself into but when I saw a new horror game released, I immediately picked it up. Having just finished this game overall it was a about a 7.5/10 for me. There isn't much of a way I can discuss the game without spoilers so beware below.

One of the first things about this game that should be known, by default there is letterbox borders and your character has a "natural" sway and vision focus. At first it was incredibly jarring as you can see the screen breathing in and out as if your character is passing out or having difficulty seeing. Once you start playing, these are merely cosmetics choices and I hardly had any concerns, but there are options to turn them off.

Another immediate focus will be on the dialogue and voice acting. At times it was awkward. I don't judge many games based on poor line delivery, as for the most part everything was decent. What really is jarring is the pacing. There will be times that characters deliver their lines at lightning speed and the things they say should have impact and weight. There are monstrous claw things and tendon-like vines all over the apartment, and I feel that most of the characters barely feel threatened or even concerned they exist. I genuinely believed only Lazarus could see them until Father Abraham and Laura made some short comments about them. How are they so damn calm in a situation looking straight out of Silent Hill's "Otherworld" and Dead Space's Necromorph goop.

The narrative does have a few moments that are somewhat confusing too, mostly the stranded soldier you meet in Act II. I was incredibly confused by the course of events and the story does come back around to attempt to tie in the reason Lazarus does what he does in that Act, but it still felt disjointed at worst and loosely tied together at best.

My last really tedious issue was at times you, the player, are shown some cutscene or some dialogue and there are very little clues as to what to do to proceed. I found myself more than a few times simply walking back to a character to now trigger new dialogue that allows me to progress or I would also find myself interacting with everything again until I knew for certain I need to move on.

Now I know I have been critical thus far, but something I really enjoyed was the structure of the Acts. Essentially every other Act you will return to the Apartment and explore an extra room or passage that otherwise was closed off. This felt really natural, similar to Silent Hill 4: The Room. I do wish you explored a bit more of the Apartment complex for what it is worth, but in general all of the Acts are small areas with a very linear path.

The puzzles in the game are minor and only a few of them are actually required to progress. The theme was interesting as all of them involved some form of device or ingredients resulting in some Alchemist device or procedure. It was incredibly straight forward and gave me a a slight moment of scratching my head to solve them before return to the tasks at hand.

The religious iconography and artwork were genuinely breathtaking. As much as I enjoyed the game and the sinister spooky atmosphere I found myself in awe at every time I was in a church, cathedral or prayer booth. They are absolutely stunning and vibrant and easily to highlight of what kept me wanting to see more of the game. The rest of the world is also well lit, animated and overall truly pretty to look at; looking at Act VI specifically, the orphanage was really the best part of the game I wish more of it was like that.

My final thoughts:
This game hooked me with the screenshots and synopsis and what I played through I believe I am satisfied. Be aware this game is a horror game in terms of themes and narrative, not as much with the game play. I do wish the Acts were longer, but with the price tag of the game you should not expect the game to last you that long. The moments of sheer beauty with religious iconography and the perturbing creatures that seem to be spawning in the Apartment definitely kept me invested to want to know how to stop it. The ending is alright and perhaps a little expected but I implore anyone who is picking this game up to read all of the journal entries and collectibles as it truly helped the world building. I am curious to see what the next project for the studio will be and consider me a fan.

An excellent game with a mystery to solve, diverse areas to explore, and relics/documents to gather. You play as a man returning home after the death of his mother. He arrives to find his sister missing and, in his search for her, uncovers a host of family secrets. With a mix of politics, history, and Eastern Orthodoxy, the story twists and turns towards a dark, yet hopeful ending.

If you enjoyed Grey Dawn, you are likely to find Last Days of Lazarus quite satisfying. The characters are intriguing and the scenery and sound track are beautifully crafted. The religious artifacts are masterfully created and you have a real sense of experiencing Romania in the post-Soviet era. Good and Evil complete throughout this adventure and the main character finds he has strong ties to both.

Puzzles are mostly 'find and use' with a handful of mechanical exercises that were not too difficult. At times, you may find yourself trying to figure out what action is needed to make the story progress. Luckily, the individual chapters are not huge so there is no significant back tracking involved as you try to discover what you missed.

I enjoyed reading the documents and taking in the environment as the back story unfolded. The game autosaves often and also saves on exit. There is a 'chapter select' feature that allows you to circle back and pick up missing achievements.

I highly recommend this to those who enjoy a twisting story that mixes a bit of mystery, horror, religious themes, and a man in search of the truth.

Recommend!! The graphic is good and the game is offering an interesting story influenced by the communist regime. There are also religious elements involved.
