An experience that gets more challenging over time with the combat style of many loved games PERFECTLY mixed together in a way that allows for any of your favorite play styles. Weapons and builds are highly customizable and most of all an intriguing and honestly just beautiful story that takes parts from the fairy tale we all know and makes it dark and disturbing without ruining the good bits.

P.S.
Toto better be in the next game.

Amazing game, probably the best souls-like game there is, this is the closest you are going to get to a Fromsoft game. And it's definitely better than DS2 at least for me.

Gameplay wise it's closer to Sekiro with the perfect blocking you can do, but you can also dodge too if that's more your style (except for red attacks, you can only perfect block those, unless you have a certain amulet), though the game encourages you to perfect block more than dodging.

Took me almost 30hs for the first playthrough and immediately started a new game + because of how good it is. And it comes with a story that you can easily understand without the need of a youtuber to explain it to you. This year had a lot of amazing releases, but I think this one takes the GOTY for me.

I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed souls-likes. The level design works so well and finding shortcuts that feels amazing after exploring. And weapons are fun even for slow hitting great swords. I'm about at the end of the game i can say this is a perfect game to finish before i take a break with games. The bosses are hard and fun easy to parry after learning their moves, but only tricky thing for me was learning the parry starts the parry frames unlike Sekiro which parry's the moment you click. i got my friends to try this game and they love it. I hope for this game to get a award.

A great Soulslike, a combination of words that I wouldn't have used for any other game up until now. The visuals are very good, and it runs buttery smooth at the same time. Sound design is overall excellent, as is music when the authors don't forget to use it! The story turned out to be more interested that I expected, and the characters were not so bad either.

If I had to point out something I didn't like, it would be too many bosses with 2 phases, and the last level being a bit of a slog and visually repetitive, despite being thematically and architecturally really cool.

Initially thought it was an overhyped "Bloodborne on PC" but was surprised by how well made and fun the game is. Definitely my favourite soulslike so far (enjoyed it more than some From Software games even). Excited for what NEOWIZ will do for the DLC and future games.

As of writing, I am still on my first play through but here are my thoughts so far;

Lies of P is the best Souls-like I've played that's not made by fromsoft and a fantastic love letter to Bloodborne. It's a little rough around the edges and sometimes it feels like a well-done mod (I don't know how else to describe it). The adaptation of Pinocchio mashed into a dark steampunk aesthetic gels nicely together.

It wears its inspiration on a huge billboard, right in your face. There's a poison "swamp" and Sen's fortress just to name a few. changing out weapon blades and hilts is a fascinating idea, leading to hundreds of combinations, however (probably my fault) I have no idea on what the effects of doing so are. There have been multiple times where the hit detection has been off, The guard or "rally" mechanic is a treat, making small mistakes recoverable.

I'll post a full review once I have finished the game.

11/10 Story, 10/10 Gameplay. Like a more linear Bloodborne but no guns and with more parrying (yes I'm saying that as a 'souls veteran'). Multiple endings as well keeps me wanting to come back for more. SLIGHTLY dissapointing that this isnt 'true to the souls formula' but I would have liked to make my own puppet and name it too and have invading because all these weapons are WAY TOO FUN to not wanna PVP/Invade with them all, but also having the game more 'tailored' to your character and their interactions DEFINATELY plays into the immersion. In the end its hard to want too much more out of this game, 110% a Gem of a game.

Loving the game so far. Feels very similar to bloodborne which is really nice to have for pc. The combat is exciting and the story holds my interest. One of my favorite things about it so far is the weapon customization which allows for much more player choice in combat. It makes it feel like the character is really mine whenever I play.

Pagliacci
Pagliacci

One of the greatest Souls games out there, including the ones made by fromsoft. It takes a lot of aspects from Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Dark Souls 3 while also bringing plenty of new things to the table such as it's blade/handle weapon combination system and P-Organ skill tree, which I view as nice innovations to the standard souls-like experience. It's story is also quite good, not quite excellent or fantastic, but it's a well done story in an interesting and well crafted world, with quite a few interesting and unique characters populating it.

This game is incredible from start to end. The learning curve is very steep, and most bosses were a consistent step up in difficulty from the previous. Learning the move sets of all the bosses was incredibly rewarding, the flow of the combat feels fresh despite the obvious Soulsborne influences. The bosses are consistently good, and there are no gimmick bosses weighing the roster down. I never tried to use the summons but the fights felt fair enough that I never wanted to.

The levels rewarded exploration and I never got stuck aimlessly wandering around. They did attempt to make the hotel a sort of firelink shrine, but you never have a reason to back track through old levels and you have teleportation available from the start. Makes it feel more like the hunters dream than firelink.

I highly highly recommend this game

Probably THE best non From souls games I have ever played. Story was awesome, one of the few games were I actually cared about NPCs or notes in the story. The gameplay has a bit of a learning curve but once you learn to perfect parry and read an enemies moveset you will dominate, especially with the plethora of movsets, damage types, fabnle arts etc. I absolutely look forward to the DLC with great anticipation.

This is the best souls-like out there (i'm not including loosely related games like hollow knight or remanant 2 in that list). Much of this game approaches fromsoft levels of quality, but some areas exceed fromsoft quality (like performance and weapon crafting). Incredible game. I beat it on gamepass then bought it on here to beat again. Runs flawlessly on steam deck as well.

Voldemort would like to grow his nose...Let's feed him a bunch of lies!!
- This game is TERRIBLE
- It does NOT support high refresh rates
- The story is hidden, boring, characters have nothing interesting to say
- The music is just horrible, nobody, especially me, would get goosebumps from it, or spend any time at the hotel just to listen to it
- The Gameplay is NOT satisfying, perfect guarding AND dodging? Huge variety of weapons and customization? HORRENDOUS.
- The level design is so open, with many forks and hidden paths you can take that take you to so many hidden areas and secrets, probably the only thing I liked in this game!!
- Telling me EXACTLY where I need to go when some new dialogue appears in the game instead of me having to speak with every single NPC in the entire game?? Man what the heck, that was the most fun thing to do in the other soulslikes!!!
- Honestly, what a ripoff! I'd never spend more than 2 hours in this game.
- Like, overall, bad story, bad gameplay, bad music, bad visuals, bad QoL, absolutely abysmal performance, why would you even buy this game?

(I think it might be working!! Voldemort's nose started growing, feed it more lies! Buy the game and keep on lying, puppets)
P.S. Serious note: Probably my personal GOTY so far.

This is the only proper souls-like that has ever come close to a FromSoftware game. Blending the aggressiveness of Bloodborne with the technicality of Sekiro, along with the additions of its own mechanics and flare, this game genuinely competes with FromSoftware; yet it stands on its own, rather than being another "souls clone." The gameplay feels so fluid and perfected that I may actually prefer it over some FromSoftware games.

Milkman
Milkman

Its a good soulslike game, the graphics are clean and the engine performs well, the story isnt extremely deep but is fleshed out enough, and so far I get what I expect out of combat and character development.

I'll probably add more details later after I play a bit more, but one thing I want to say is that I am VERY tired of "no pause". *Extremely*, mind-numbingly tired of devs who think disrespecting my time is also a difficulty philosophy or an added challenge. No, it isnt. Its not. This doesnt make your game more "soulslike", and in-fact FromSoft does themselves no favors with their own no pause garbage. There is no acceptable excuse for this.

Ganja Cat
Ganja Cat

Simply the best non-fromsoft soulslike and is even better than some of the games on their roster. The lore, mechanics, world-building and art direction are amazing and immersive. Additionally, the game has excellent optimization. Looking forward to the DLC and potentially a sequel.

I really enjoyed the legion arm and some of the fable arts but for $80 I expected a lot more content. The weapons feel very weak and most are very poorly designed most feel the same as other weapons less than half actually stand out as interesting or cool. I am very disappointed that it is clearly a bloodborne ripoff yet doesn't rip off the best part of bloodborne, the weapons. The game is pretty short, I went through two playthroughs in 50 hours and since there are few weapons to use especially since most either feel the same as others or are just boring to use the game is pretty much dead for me. Don't pay full price for this game, it has it's good points but not anywhere near enough content for full price!

Probably the best "soulslike" yet, and a sorely needed spiritual successor to Bloodborne (which still doesn't have a sequel or remaster on the way). Highly recommend for anybody who enjoys the souls games, or even just Bloodborne or Sekiro specifically.

Wizardaqua

This game is absolutely amazing. The graphics and visuals are stunning and the story is intriguing and characters are complex and well written. The developers expertly captured the essence of Fromsoftware's games and combines Bloodborne's fast exciting combat and rally system with Sekiro's high skill and extremely rewarding parry to create a super awesome experience that makes the game feel truly epic. I will be eagerly awaiting dlc and/or future releases from Neowiz.

This is the best "souls-like" game I have ever played which is not a FromSoft title. In fact, I would say that Lies of P is better than many FromSoft titles as well. I would probably rank it after Elden Ring and Bloodborne ... barely beating out Dark Souls III.

From a story perspective, it beats ALL FromSoft titles, as there is rarely any understandable story in FromSoft titles (you often have to read up online about the lore behind FromSoft titles to understand what is going on). And the soundtrack to lies of P is spectacular. I bought it for $9.99 here on Steam and listen to it almost every day.

This is a 9/10 game. If you like souls-like games, get it and play it. The ONLY reason I don't give it a 10 is because there is no co-op feature in the game. I really wanted to summon my friends and play with them in this game.

Dude wait I haven't reviewed this game yet? Lies of P is actually an amazing game. Souls like or not, its phenomenal and easily my game of the year, and this year was full of bangers. If you are hesitant because its a souls like, give it a try anyway because it is literally just that good. A friend of mine who wouldn't touch elden ring with a 100 foot pole played AND BEAT this game. Seriously please give it a try :) It is 100% worth your time and a labor of love.

About as close as we're likely to get to having bloodborne on PC. It wears its inspiration on its sleeve and that's not a bad thing. Excellent world and level design, fun weapon ideas, great bosses, and honestly just a really good game.

The Spiciest Memelord
The Spiciest M…

Absolute Banger.

Probably the closest a company other than FromSoftware has come to making something that feels & plays exactly like a FromSoftware game. The level design (excluding the first half of Arche Abbey), the bosses, the weapon options, the overall feel of the combat, etc. everything about it slaps.

It might not be perfect, but it comes damn close. It's a little on the shorter side when compared to the mainline souls games (took me a little under 20 hours for the first playthrough), but with multiple endings and REALLY solid combat, the option to do multiple NG+ playthroughs is definitely there if you want it.

I wanted to love this game so much, but the combat feels so disjointed. The biggest things I look for are fairness and how the enemy tracks you. The latter was what made me hate this game. The enemy tracking is so brutal and unforgiving that I just can't recommend it.

Honestly this game resonates with me a lot, despite me not being very good at souls-like games. I enjoyed every second of it and I'm on my way to the third playthrough. It's visually amazing and at least for me quite challenging and I look forward to the DLC!

No developer apology letter here.

Lies of P's concept sounds like a cool mashup of genres you would come up with for a game that won't ever be made.

"Dude, imagine a souls game where you play as Pinocchio." Except not only was this game actually made, but it is in my opinion the best game of 2023.

This game excels in everything. First off, its 2023 and this game worked at launch. No glitches, poor performance, or developer apology letters. It is a fully baked game with an extreme level of polish made in Unreal Engine 4, which is not old news despite developers marketing their 150GB unoptomized UE5 games as next gen and revolutionary.

The setting and story is the strongest aspect of this game. The twist on the old fairy tale of Pinocchio works so well as a darker, expanded story with aspects of the original cleverly utilized throughout the entire game. The levels are beautifully designed with Belle Epoque era themed architecture, enemy puppet designs, and VERY BLOODBORNE inspired sections as well.

Mechanic wise, other reviews have already explained much better than I, but what's important is that the familiar and addicting progression/gameplay loop of all good souls games is here, with a lot of unique and new things here. There is a lot more depth to progression than just your levels, which allows for multiple different gameplay styles.

The combat is the bread and butter of the game, and it is perfect. This game draws from Bloodborne's primarily aggressive combat style. Lies of P pulls through where Bloodborne's awkward "parrying" mechanic lacks, however. Blocking with the incredibly tight parry window in order to build stagger is intense and incredibly rewarding, especially when you land the staggering heavy and fatal blow. These are heavy hitting, flashy, and satisfying.

You can tell that the developers saw this game as a work of art above all. They should be incredibly proud and deserve every penny.

If this game is on sale, wait and buy it at full price.

Coming from ER, this game is indeed great! Took a while to get used to blocking instead of rolling, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes very fun, but still challenging!
Cool story, great artwork, no performance issues

I am 10 hours into the game and so far i love it.
It looks good, runs smooth and the enemies are challenging, the game got everything what a souls-like needs.
The only thing that buggers me is the really tight window where you get a perfect guard. I dont know if it is me or the game..but this is a realy hard challenge!

Everyone who loves a challenging game should get it!
