This game has allot of potential, but needs allot of work done before it should be released. First off the camera angle needs to be able to changed from inverted to normal. Second the tutorials are sketchy at best, it lags like crazy and you have to keep repeating tasks to complete them. It is a fun game though. its like logging simulator meets Spintires.

Great start for Early Access! The terrain and mud physics make for a good challenge for the machines to traverse, on top of that the timber physics are very realistic. This game has a lot of potential, and the developer is clearly working very hard to make a great game, clear roadmap on what features will be added, current things being worked on, and what is in the future. In its current state, the game is pretty fun, but will be much better upon a full release. If you like logging games, you'll likely enjoy this game. Keep in mind, its early access, if you see this game's potential, and what it has in store, I highly recommend picking it up, and supporting the developer to get this project off the ground.

Always Remember: This game is in Early Access
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The developers created an awesome base for this game which
definitely needs to be approved on.

Lots of things still missing.

But the developer seems very active, listening to feedback
and fixing bugs very quickly.

So I might not recommend it to someone who expects a fully fleshed out
experience right now. But for someone who is willing to help shape a probably
very cool simulator experience. Go for it and help make the game the best it can be.

Its already now a lot of fun to hop in and fell some trees. I will definitely be playing in the next few months !

I ran the game in Linux via Steam Play/Proton 4.11-10. The game seems pretty stable and I didn't detect any game breaking bugs beyond the issues I mention below. There is a lot of potential here, but I cannot recommend it in its current state unless you just want to support the developers to complete the game (which is what I plan to do). I was torn, but decided to give the game a thumbs up for now since this is an early access (EA) review, I like the direction the game is going, and I'm running the game in an unsupported operating system (Linux).

As with any EA game, expect issues. These are my biggest issues so far:

    • Nights last too long. It became night in the middle of the advanced tutorial. The loader has no lights (at least that I could find) so I couldn't see to load the logs onto the trailer and had to wait forever for it to be light enough to continue the tutorial.
    • Cameras can be a pain. It's hard to find or move the camera to a place where you can see what is going on. Using a controller, the loader moves when adjusting the free camera.
    • Gamepad controls are not clear and/or some are missing (it displays keyboard controls when using a gamepad).

I'm sure those issues will be solved in the future.

for a game that has only just been released as early access, and at this price point its very impressive.
basic but effective graphics, that have no drop in frame rate [even on my laptop], and pretty good game play.
still needs some work but even at it is the games runs a lot smoother than some so called finished games.
credit to the devs for producing a game with such potential

Saved my game after cutting down a bunch of trees. Launched the saved game and trees are gone. I realize this is an early access game but will leave it and check back again once all the bugs and glitches have been worked through (like the game crashing when I try to turn vehicle lights on...)

This review is based on my 50 min. of playtime and its focused on what I expected when compared to a game like Spintires/Mud Runners who are going to be the base players of this type of game.

In its current state I can’t recommend it. But since its an Early Access there is still hope.
Exponential Games Inc. Dev. please read all cons and fix my concerns and overhaul the physics. If you haven’t played Spintires or Mud Runners play and emulate what you think it does best. Send me a copy for future reviews.

All my gameplay was with a Xbox Controller

Pros:
Game has high potential to be a great alternative to Spintires or Mud Runners.
You can exit vehicles.
You can use a chainsaw and ax.
In game controller support. (Not working on menu)

Con:
No 3rd person camera while on foot.
While on foot vertical camera controls are reversed (Pressing down looks up, airplane style)
Vehicle 3rd person camera is broken. (Need to double tap camera button to be able to adjust the perspective)
Can’t access settings menu while in game. (Only from main menu)
FOV is Broken. FOV slider didn’t change anything. (Again it’s hard to tell since you have to go to the main menu make changes and select a new game, and check to see if it worked)

Controller support needs some work. (If I’m on-foot and press the RT trigger I walk forward just as I do if I press up on the LT stick) to while on foot I should be able to use the chainsaw with the RT trigger. On-foot and vehicle controller mapping need to be separated.

The game will be a serious competitor to Spintires and Mudrunner.

Make sure you sell all logs that you cut before you save the game. I looks like the game does not save those logs.

4 hours is not really enough to to have an opinion but so far I really like the game. As I read in other comments, the only thing i would like to see so far is a way to strap your logs down to the truck. It is bad to get to the selling point only to find you lost your logs along the way. My bad I guess. I love the mud runner, farm sim feel about it and it has the main thing I had hoped that the latest FS would have, conforming terrain. I think 20
bucks is a bit steep for the game at this early point but I don't mind paying to help the developers make a living, they have to eat too sometimes. I look forward to seeing where this game will go, oh and in the 4 hours I've played, no bugs so far. good job and keep up the good work.

I was excited when I saw this title. I really enjoyed Farming Simulator's logging experience. Where FS has so many different jobs you can do, surely a title focusing on only the logging industry can really improve on that experience. Unfortunately this game fails here. The only new element added is mud physics. Further just about everything else from graphics, sound, vehicles, depth and progression is lacking far behind. There are just a few pieces of equipment to start off with. Off the bat you can buy all the basic equipment you need to start logging. After that you have about 2 things to save your money for then it's GG. I understand this is an early access build, but it my opinion it doesn't even deserve to be called an alpha yet. It is more like a demo you pitch to a client before you start working on the real product. In conclusion, if you want to have a enjoyable logging experience, FS offers 10 x more content and polish, and logging is only a very tiny fraction of the game. And no I'm not an FS fanboy. I'm simply stating the facts.

Quite a fun game that has great physics and a rather realistic feel to driving and logging. The models of vehicles are detailed and constantly get worked on and updated.
Is it a unique game? Yes. Is it perfect? No.
There are things that still need to be addressed, but it's an early access and the devs do put updates constantly.
Looking forward for new things to do and keep up the good work!

AFTER 2 YEARS oOFD WAITING
==========================

I know this is still early access we are in the middle of a Covid pandemic, things may not have advanced as they might normally have but...

After 2 years we are still selling logs to an ATM machine. Why couldn't some sort of a building resembling a sawmill have been added so we can get rid of the ATM machine or just integrate the ATM into the side of a building to give us the impression we are delivering to a sawmill.
The garage in game pretty useless.

I have given up on waiting for this game,
It was just a waste of money, idea was good. but progress is just too slow..

Great potential and seem to be heading in the right direction, however it has too many flaws and lacks the polish needed to be a commercial success and have players want to continue using the game / simulator.

Note, Alpha version early access, the final product will hopefully be MUCH better. It's just not ready for anybody not dedicated to working with the devs to improve the game.

While the premise is unique, and it is still in early access, I cannot in good concience recommend this game in its current state.

The movement is floaty, there's only really two maps, and a lot of things seem to just slide everywhere.

On top of this there are no options to change mouse sensitivity other than camera panning i guess.

Thats only the really egregious offences i could find off the bat. It just feels like it needs A LOT of work.

However, i would not recommend avoiding this one entirely.

Watch it (follow) and Wait. It may eventually become a sleeper hit, I don't know. Though i do wish the devs luck in making this thing, but right now it's just not vibing with me.

physics of the game totally suck.none of the machines work like the are supposed to.. cant use the log cutting machine to remove the brances without it twisting and looking funny... controls are cumbersome and not worth the hassel.

Maj.Woody

Fantastic game! Modern day logging machines that work the same way the real ones do! This is a simulator so operating these machines takes practice and requires some skill. There is no background story. Following the tutorial, you simply purchase a piece of land for tree-harvesting and get to work. The money you raise from selling cut trees can be exchanged for new vehicles and upgrades. If you need a story for motivation, dont bother with this one. The graphics are pleasing but not as beautiful as "Snow Runner;" more like "Fernbus" level of quality. Vehicles look like a generic copy of their real-life counterparts, however the quality of the textures has been improving and probably will continue to do so. I love the streaming radio station that you get, It really helps with the grind. Mud is everywhere! And you will get stuck in it! Fortunately, these machines have different driving modes that help deal with this issue. If you are looking for a challenging Logging machine sim, try this one.

Wow, after looking at this game for a long time and on the fence about buying it......I waited till it was on sale a purchased it. I have to say this game is very good and heading in the right direction. I knew this after 5 minutes of playing and truck got stuck in the mud and wouldn't move....I have been waiting for the longest time for sim games to get this right....make it hard and difficult and risky to just drive off anywhere. Winches now have a purpose and so many other game could learn from this.

Challenging equals not only fun and a sense of accomplishment, but as well longevity. I am truly hoping for continued support and development of this game.

The devs are very quick to respond as well and very supportive.

If you like actual simulation more than just the word this is the game for you!

First and foremost, I'm totally biased in my positive review of the game, since I'm a Forest Technician graduate and former Forest Officer, Compliance and Enforcement / Harvesting Coordinator for the British Columbia Forest Service. A BIG thank you to the devs for making such a well done logging simulator game.

If you like playing around with big equipment in forests and on muddy, treacherous roads; or to simply enjoy the landscape vistas of mountainous terrain and big trees; then you'll get your money's worth getting this simulation game.

Frankly, I'm a Lumberjack and I'm OK, as Monty Python would proudly shout.

i have been watching this game for a while now and today i decided to buy it because i talked to some of the guys on discord who said it was good. from what i played of it the game has alot of potential. but ultimately i got a refund because i played for an hour and came across a couple of really annoying bugs and alot of lag. this is very badly optimized and nothing i did with the settings fixed any of my issues. so its one to keep an eye on maybe for another year but i cant recommend buying it now

It is a very good game. I moved from Farm Simulator. I am very happy with all the progress that is being made with this game. If you want to unlock all features choose beta version. Make sure you turn off blur and Bloom if you are having FPS Drop. This game has alot of potential. Don't get me wrong this game is in Early Access but It is great so far. Things are being added to beta ever week. I have been working with the developer in adding modding features.

Let me start off by saying the dev of this game is one of the best and most responsive devs I've ever seen. This game is fun and relaxing to play. There's new stuff and tweaks being made all the time. With the mods its going to be amazing. If you like forestry in FS, then you'll be sure to like this game. Overall a great game and I can't wait to see what the future brings.

I've had this game for awhile now . It's still in early development but I can tell you the dev has been working a lot on this game . When i first got the game is was very early development and i didnt play much due to controller capability . Now they have controller capability and manual key bindings . I run duel joysticks and am finally getting the hang of it game still has a ways to go but as much as they work on it I dont see it taking very long to be very playable . Mods are now being made and I see a big future in this game as long as they keep fixing bugs and dialing the game in . I recommend the game without hesitation even in the early development stage because its come a long way in the time I've had it and see its potential in the future with devs and modders working together

First of all, after all the years I've done purchases on steam, this is my very first "review".

I dont need to write a novel about this game. Suffice to say, this game is...horrible.
Even if you're a diehard lumberjack or w/e your reason is to even look at this game. Please, do yourself a favor and turn away. This game *will* drive you bonkers.
It's surprisingly demanding on the PC for what you actually get.
The controls, oh man, they are *horrible* Really, really horrible.
Bugs aplenty. Most annoying one is something that kept happening constantly to me, exit your vehicle, and you fall through the world. Not to mention the game's physics. Sometimes your logs could just bounce off, and fly away like a rocket for a kilometer or two. Silly, and depending on your mood, kinda hilarious.
And again I cant stress that enough, the controls are what nightmares are made off.

I normally dont write reviews, as I said this is actually the first time I bothered. Simply because this game ...is just trash. Burn it with fire.
If you really love playing as a lumberjack, just play lumberjack dynasty (slightly better but also pretty trash), or even Farm Simulator 2019.

This is also the first game, EVER, that I've requsted a refund for. I'm amazed when I look at how long this game been in development and yet it feels like they started working on it a month ago.
This game might become decent in a year or two. But for now, in march 2021, I strongly recommend you stay away from this game, save your money. If it ever goes on sale for like $5 then sure. Otherwise, wait for another year or two and maybe(doubtful) it has become better.

I rate it 2/10 - and that's me being nice.

I wanted to like this game so badly, after Farm Sim 17 and the lumberjack additions I've been wanting a more fleshed out version. This is not it, EA I know but on question, have the Devs ever driven any vehicle AT ALL??? All the vehicles go from 0 to TOP GEAR MAN LETSGOWEGOTTAGETOUTTAHEREOHSHOOTTHERE'SAHILL.......LOOKooooouuutttttt........
that is to say they go really fast immediately and then breaking? Well breaking is going from warp speed forward to herewegoinreversejustasfastYAAAYYYYYYYY!!! But without the yay on my part. So seeing as much of the anemic gameplay revolves 'round driving this is a solid no. Imagine a vehicle with a transmission and throttle issues as I've mentioned, now imagine attaching a trailer with some need for precision. Oh the wonderous joy.
Final- needs much work on mechanics to be considered playable then needs game play filled out... or game play at all really. Solid pass for now, but hey! The trees look like wood so there's that!
Keep up the work guys I really want this game to succeed cuz I really want to enjoy it and thank you for what you have done, it is far more than I've done!

if the workshop feature gets some resources, that would help a lot. but the mods need to actually work.

Well, after playing Lumberjack Simulator for over 44 hours now I feel I can wholeheartedly recommend it. It may have a tough learning curve due to the large amount of different vehicles and the unusual key commands, but it is so worth it after you learn the basics of a few machines. I had enough fun in the beginning of career just cutting down a few trees and running them through a chipper to make a few bucks but then you can advance through much more complex machines. There is also 'open world' play with easy, medium, and hard levels.
In the career mode you start out with some very basic equipment and in easy mode you get 250k to spend on other equipment. Only a couple of jobs are available, but as you complete them the variety of jobs quickly expands to many more, easy or much more complex jobs.
Chop down trees, load onto trucks and deliver to different locations over some very challenging terrain.
Endless fun! Also, good support on DIscord if you have questions or concerns.

i truly enjoy playing this game, that being said it does still some work. the free camera is inverted and a pain to use. The attach system that helps keep the logs in the log trailers needs an on and off function so you can unload the trailer when needed without the logs staying stuck to the trailer and flying back when you release the grapple.the game suddenly lags for unknown reasons randomly and it makes it impossible to get anything done. and the trucks all seem under powered and not setup for off road use when there are no roads. and the delimber\saw on the loader is extremely complicated to use. ive logged and been around logging most of my life and this is a good game. just a few bugs to mess with.

Don't waste your money on this, I can't recommend it for more than an hours worth of playtime. It is dull and lacks any kind of polish that a game that has been in development for this long should have. I realize that making a game is not easy but Lumberjack Simulator really needs to rethink what it wants to go for. Hydraulic controls for the machines are touchy and often overextend even after you let go of the button controlling them. It needs some major re-hauling. Do not buy as of now.

I really like this game, it has a lot of potential. But in its current state I cannot recommend it.

I have played this game for about 2 hours and I have already encountered game-breaking bugs. I have fallen through the map and gotten stuck in an infinite loop, got launched a million feet into the air and such. But these kind of bugs are to be expected in the "early access" stage.

What this game lack is content. It is fun for about an hour, but then it gets repetitive. It would be amazing to see features where you could really build up your business - buy larger warehouses, hire employes and have a larger variety of things to do.

I would also like to see the flunky controls and especially the lag become more optimized. I have a fairly beefy computer, but some of the vehicles destroy my fps. I really hope the developers read this comment, because I could see myself putting a lot of hours into this game if works properly.

The physics engine used for this game is way much more jankier than the one used for Farming Simulator. I tried pushing this aside but I just can't ignore it. Also, the controls are just too... frustrating. I was expecting something along the lines of Mechanic Sims style (number keys for specific tools and probably a rotary menu to access tools). Aside from these, the learning curve on the tools are way too steep as there is not much of intuitive elements as been used by some Mechanic Sims.

These first 2 main issues are putting me off so much that I just had to write off this game as a very bad purchase. Until they have been solved, I had to bench this game for good.

Truely an amazingly realistic game. I used to work in forest, I can quite see myself back then.
Honestly quite impress with the work that is done here. I was searching for it, found it, and fell in love.
Don't expect fast gaming here, u're close to the real thing, and u'll have to think how to use your machinery correctly to increase ur rentability.

Few things good be rrework, like a little bit more power to some vehicles (the faller have some real difficult time even at full speed on some tiny coast), and the harvester have some trouble with grapping the trees.
Even if there's a log charger trailer (something like this, don't remember the name), there could be an upgrade for the log trailer (short and long) to add a grapple. It could be access maybe with external seat? Like we'd have to go out the truck and enter the grapple seat to use it. That's something I'd really dig honestly haha

Anyway, and finally.... what an amazing xwork again. I'm super fan of your work here. It feels good, really. Love the forest, I'm not quite a farming guy. So, cheers ( =

this game is super lagging and frame rate super slow never recommending it to anyone and not downloading again just asked for refund hope I get it because this game is terrible. So think if you want to buy this game.

The reviews aren't wrong, for a game that is being made by a single developer it's not terrible, but if you want a better logging experience I recommend farm sim 22. You already have factories, mills, etc. Maybe later on this will be great but the graphics are on par with a mobile game which if you play fs22 you have the modders capability with plenty of capable modders.

I have only played for 3 hrs so I don't have a good grasp on the hit boxes for the grasping mechanic is with the bigger machines.

The good:
How the roads will degrade and change based on where you drive in real time
price

The bad:
Not very in depth eg, branches disappear when cut off, you don't have to deal with the waste
Vehicle selection is disappointingly small
even though the road system is interesting expect to get stuck, a lot
no controller support

If you are looking for a forestry game I would recommend doing forestry in a Farming Sim game if you can find one cheap enough.

Seems like an alpha build at best. I clip through the ground or vehicles every 15-20 min or so and have trouble getting mobile. There's 'ghost branches' I can't seem to limb. And not sure why but sometimes it just doesn't want me to sell lumber and there's no explanation of wrong type, length, etc. Winch physics are awful, sometimes the winch pulls you out great and sometimes it sends your truck to Mars.

Great idea, I want to like it, but the entire game is broken.

Loving it.. Would love to see more upgrades for the trailer and some little issues like the trailer getting stuck on everything
