DO NOT PURCHASE!! The right trigger button (use powers) doesn't work on any controller, even with the fixes that apparently worked previously. This makes the game unplayable. Avoid this game!

This is an embarassingly bad port... I'm not sure how they decided it was ready to release, but it is far from ready.

The controller doesn't work (in a console port... how?) and the mouse and keyboard controls are painfully clunky.

I usually don't write reviews because I'm too lazy to. Though for this one I will but mostly as a warning.
I love Marvel and I loved these games since I first played them years ago.
That said, I got this just out the sale and could not play it for my life due to horrible controls optimization. Was gonna refund it but I really wanted to keep them so I looked around for solutions.
Turns out, there's just something weird with the game if I play with wireless controller. I play with Xbone controller. So I just plugged in the usb cable for it and it worked! Same controller but with a wire this time. Kinda weird but hey, I can finally play it again.
So yeah, fair warning, please use a wired controller in order to enjoy these awesome games.

I was skeptical about the game with the issues with the controller. I also experianced it but someone posted this and it works great with the controller

go into big picture mode
select the controler options and pick the Xbox one or 360 settings this will let you fully use a controler in game.

I also had to unplug my usb controller and then plug it back in while the game was loading and then the game saw the controller and it worked great.

First and formost, you have to sit through 5 different developer screens before you actually make it to the "game" only to find out that your controller doesn't work. If I were these 5 developers, I wouldn't want my name put on this steaming pile. They however actually want to take credit for this. I bought the bundle for $15 thinging it was a good price, if it's this unplayable I might as well have flushed that $15 down the toilet, at least I could watch it circle the drain which is more that I have gotten out of this.

I can't speak for the first game as I never got around to playing it (on the PC, I played it plenty when I was younger) but, for the basis of what I'm about to say, you should know that a friend and I bought it so that we could play 1 and 2 together since we both enjoy comics (although we prefer DC, we both have favourites in Marvel); after purchasing/installing the game (about fifty minutes, although my internet isn't the greatest) I set up the game and then invited him.
We both agreed that it was incredibly fun at first, we enjoyed the team up attacks and, although it was very laggy/choppy for us since the online coop isn't the best (more on that in a minute), we thought it looked good and was a massive improvement from the graphics of the first.
However, the PC port's ability to hold an online multiplayer game is ridiculously pathetic. We kept disconnecting every few minutes to the point, I then had him host but the issues were still there so we both agreed that it wasn't going to work out so I decided to look online.
I found a service called 'Parsec' (https://www.parsecgaming.com/) and I refunded the game.
Parsec allowed me to join my friend in the same way that someone would join a game locally, it's basically local play but using an online service.

Once we used Parsec, it was extremely satisfying to play as the game was no longer trying to hold up a multiplayer server and we even progressed enough to unlock Black Panther a costume for my friend.
So, in conclusion, I think I'd pass on this game if you're getting it for multiplayer but, if you're getting it for singleplayer, you might as well since it feels like a good experience of the Marvel comic Civil War.

Extra note: The controller worked fine for me on both my computer and my friend's, I was using an Xbox controller.
End of review.

I loved this game back in the day but, and it's a big but.... YOU CAN'T USE YOUR POWERS IF YOU PLAY WITH A CONTROLLER!

I just wanted to play an old favorite of mine with controller for nostalgia, but nope.

Apathy

The port is trash. Despite numerous patches it still doesn't support controllers. The only controller it supports is the Staem controller. Partial controller support is a blatant lie and borders on false advertisement. You will need a third party program to make the game run. Even then I couldn't access menus so I couldn't save. Avoid this game and just buy the console version used.

I was very skeptical before buying this game because of all the negative reviews regarding the controller.
I just thought heck , I can always reefund and got it. My xbox controller on windows 10 works just fine. Both the USB and the wireless one. No configuration needed no nothing. Just pressed "A" and everything works. I guess there are a lot of marvel haters on Steam. If you liked x-men legends you'll like this.

This port is perfect. And the ps3 version didn't have Magneto, Psylocke, Juggernaut, Carnage or Black Panther. I am enjoying it a lot. 60 fps with all of the action is amazing. I got it at 10 bucks and it is a great deal.

Firstly, yes I had issues with my wired xbox360 controller, but I was able to fix it through a combination of configuring xbox controller settings, configuring controller settings in big picture mode, and unplugging and plugging in my controller while the game started. The point is that it eventually worked and had no problems. Secondly, once you get your controller working it will be a smooth sailing, extremely fun experience. This game has many characters we love, a great story that just keeps expanding as you progress, and now the ability to team up with friends online. Worth the pain of getting controller to work.

This game suffers of the same controller issues as MUA1 so I copy paste my review

STEAM CONTROLLER ONLY WORKS IN KBM MODE [Fixed]

Almost two years and Activision hasn't been able to fix all the issues with this cash grab, it doesn't recognize the Steam controller as a regular (Xbox) controller no matter what I try. I've updated Windows, I've downloaded XinputPlus and followed the Dinput instructions, allowed ALL controllers support in Big Picture Mode, allowed ONLY Xbox controllers support on Big Picture Mode... it just doesn't work as a f*ing controller.

The only viable turnaround is to install a Controller Profile of a KBM setup, but I personally dislike seeing KBM input prompts on screen, "Press 1" and such, so this is bugging me a lot because this was one of my favorite games on my old Xbox 360, if I can't fix this issue I might just play it with the KBM setup and if it continues to bother me I will refund it.

All that said, I don't recommend this game since first of all I don't like the idea of giving my hard earned cash to one of the greediest publishers in the industry and second, they've had almost 2 full years and they haven't updated the damn game since August 2016... that means they just gave 2 freaking weeks worth of maintenance/fixes and were done with it! Absolutely unacceptable.

Update 1
So after some more tinkering I found out that the game doesn't save the "Player 1" profile as a Controller, it always registers Player 1 as KBM, so after launching the game you have to turn off and on the Steam controller to make it work. Still, this is unacceptable for a game launched in July 2016 to the Steam Store... nearly 2 freaking years and it just got a SINGLE update!

Update 2
So in the end I decided to cave in to this stupid "turn off and on before playing" nonsense, I've actually enjoyed a lot of the 1st game. I will finish that one before jumping to this one, I'll keep you guys posted.

Works fine with wired 360 controller and win7 64 bit. No fiddling with options in Steam, or within the game itself. All buttons work.

Graphically it looks fine for its age. Not much lighting in the levels but that is another sign of the game's age.

I'll start off by saying DO NOT BUY THIS GAME AT FULL PRICE. It is rife with issues for sure. If you can manage to get around them you'll find an enjoyable game, especially with friends. And friends is the single biggest issue with the game. Online co-op is simply broken. You'll not be able to connect, or lose connection immediately. Here is a somewhat simple way to "fix" the issue:

Download Parsec at https://www.parsecgaming.com/

This program will let your friends share your screen and you can play local co-op as if you were sitting in the same room. And since you're playing local co-op, you only need one copy.

If you do get it working the game is nothing breathtaking, you'll be hard pressed to find anything else like it.

On my toaster (Pentium G4560, GTX 1050 Mini, 8 GB DDR4), there are no performance issues. Everything on max @ 1080p and it's smooth 60FPS (I have vsync on) with no framedrops or stutters. I'm only on the second act, but so far I have not encountered any crashes.

The controller problem is a bit of an odd case. There are people reporting poor xinput support, while there are people saying that it's already supported after the patch.

I tested this using two different controllers and they have different results:

Fantech GP-11 Shooter - it works fine with the right key bindings and the correct Xbox Button prompts. This is a cheap controller that supports both xinput and dinput via a mode switch. I only tested with the xinput mode (because who cares about dinput these days, right?)

Logitech F310 - it doesn't work. The key bindings are off and the right analogue doesn't work. This controller is the same as the Fantech in the sense that it supports both xinput and dinput via a toggle switch. But the difference is that this is not a no-name brand. So I have no idea why it's the one that isn't supported. I thought xinput is supposed to be a universal API.

...so there you go. The people with the controller issues and the people who are saying that it's fine are probably both saying the truth. It's just the game (or is it the xinput API itself) that's a bit wonky, resulting in inconsistent compatibility across different games. Caveat emptor and all that. Steam has a refund system in place anyway, in case the game is broken for you. The game is enjoyable enough to at least take the time to check out.

Got this in a sale and still feel cheated, I wish a fix was coming - this is Blizzard unfortunately. Releasing a broken game like this is sheer greed and its downright incompetent to not play test it throughly, get it fixed already!

Otherwise, its got some nice gameplay mechanics (Fusion combos - nice touch), nice visuals and a decent roster of characters.

Sometimes you have to call a duck a duck. These are poor badly tested console ports that doesn't work well with console controllers. I love both Marvel Ultimate Alliance games, I've finsihed them both back on the Xbox 360. I wanted to play through them again with my 5 year old son who loves super heros, we have hundreds of hours in the DC/Marvel Lego games. Sadly it was not meant to be, after fighting with the game, steam's config and other options I got 1 Xbox One controller working. I could only get player 2 up and running with the keyboard. The keyboard controls are terrible, its like playing finger twister, try moving around with w,a,d,s then to use your super power you hit left-ctrl + a number and to combo you use you hit f + a number on a small keyboard without a number pad. I kept hitting quick buttons I didn't know which put up webistes in Google Chrome. I run the game today and the Xbox One Controller is not working, I'm back to square 1. It's the first game I've refunded on Steam and it breaks my heart.

Hesitant purchase due to mixed reviews, mostly hinged on controller functionality.

My controllers (two 360 ones, wired and wireless) both worked completely fine.

Game itself is good ol fashioned Gauntlet style action hack n slash. Gotta love it.
No RPG elements anymore, more of an arcade feel than its predecessors. Easy and simple fun though.

Pato

First off, I was lucky enough to have the game recognize my controller (Ps3 using SCP Toolkit) inmediately and work without any hiccups in that regards, I had none of the controller issues I heard were common. Now, as of the game itself...I can't give it a thumbs up unless you buy it with a BIG discount.
What you get is a better looking version of the original MUA, but with a lot less content. The characters abilities are down to 4 each, with many being too similar and notable absences (Magneto, for example, can't even pick up and throw things with his powers like he could in X-Men Legends and MUA, he only has a projectile skill that throws sheets of metal which dissappear instantly). Costumes are also laking (2 each, down from 4, and without the special stats and bonuses).
The story and missions are lacking in variety, the Civil War setting changes only 2 or 3 stages (in which you fight the same Shield dudes with a different skin) before going back to a central narrative about nanites, the bosses are just other heroes with larger health pools (and as you repeat this encounters a few times, they're more of a speed bump than a challenge), and later in the game you get a lot of "superpowered" minions to fight, which are just damage sponges that can't be knocked down, stunned or grabbed, giving you fewer options...By the end of the game I was sighing every time another wave of 3 or 4 "big baddies" showed up (which was very often), and just wanted to get it done with (a bad sign, considering the game is only around 10 hours long, and that's if you explore a fair bit)

The character interactions are lazy and bland, and except for special conversations between 2 characters you'll get the same reactions if you're using Jean Grey, Carnage or Daredevil (the prompts are slightly different, but the responses are the same)

Oh, did I mention the game has a (un)healthy amount of bugs? Because it does! I had to restart areas and boss fights because "stuff" failed to trigger to allow me to go on, my characters fell through the floor and got stuck 10 meters bellow the fighting area or the boss simply vanished...again, this isn't a massive game like Skyrim or Fallout, they could and should have assured a bugfree experience on such a short, content-light game.

Can be fun if you play it with a couple of friends and/or like the source material, but if you just want a brawler, there are better, cheaper options.

I bought a PS3 because I wanted to play this game. When it came to the PC, I wanted to buy it right away but hesitated because of the pretty hefty asking price. I only picked it up when they went on sale for $10.

These ports are pretty buggy and broken.

Dialogue in hubs cut off after a set period of time. Even when a character has more to say, he or she just stops mid-sentence and either starts the next line or prompts the end of the conversation. It's terribly annoying.

It crashed on me a number of times. Sure it runs fairly smoothly on a GTX 1080 at around 120 FPS, but every now and again, it'll just decide to screw you over and crash.

Controller issues are present, yes. Using a PS4 Dualshock 4 (my controller of choice) does work, yes, with Xbox button displays but not all the time. You have to sometimes plug and unplug it just to get it to work. Sometimes, I just end up using an Xbox One controller.

But being a Marvel fan, I'll still play it. But maybe it'll be better on the console ports.

I purchased this game for My Nephew and Myself as a late Easter gift in april of 2018 him being a massive marvel fan wanted to play this with his uncle so I surprised him with the bundle and needless to say I never was so heart broken to hear my nephew cry (He lives in Japan with his Mother and Father and younger sister his father is in the U.S. Navy) I am so ashamed at activision for releasing a game that was once good and wipe their greedy little A**es with it I wish they would think rather then just assuming that since they have a popular FPS series out (Which shall remain nameless that I abhor) that decent old games don't need a decent Tune up to be good again DO NOT BUY -10/10

JAX

First of all concerning bad reviews this game works perfectly great no bugs beside the RT not working (The button to access spells) and that can be fixed using this guide Here .

Concerning this game you should really start by finishing the first one, although they seem similar but there are some tiny differences in the gameplay that makes each of them unique in its own way, for instance gameplay seems faster in this one yet the first one offers a different approach and still awesome.

They changed all the progress system with less freedom and more straight forward style to how you allocate points to your powers and abilities, it has its positives and negatives but most importantly it comtributed to a different feel of game than the first so you can still visit the first one and have a nice experience.

Being released originally in 2009 this game is still a gem of portrayment to the marvel universe, it is based on the civil war story from the comics, and you have a wide range of hero and villains selection, there is a big improvement of graphics over the first one, animations are mixed some are better some are worse, the simulator disk experience was bad the first one did it way better, story has two different routes you pick one. This game is awesome such a shame it was released with the bugs and got its bad reviews, Activision are plain stupid to not take more care in it.

There are some serious bugs that are detracting from the PC experience. The RT on the XBox controller doesn't work with the game, so you'll have to remap it to another button. Using either Invisible Woman's or Jean Grey's second power the game will crash. I have not been able to find any patches or fixes for this issue.

I had absoultely no problems with my playthrough on this game. It's better to play this a controller because the keyboard controls can be difficult/annoying. This game does feature the DLC so don't get turned off by other reviews/articles that complained about this. This game being a port instead of a remaster is a bummer but still ran great for me. If you want to relive this classic game, pick it up on sale.
Tip: To play this with a PS4 or XBOX ONE controller, go into Steam Controller Configuration and switch it to Generic Controller or the game won't recognize your controller. :)

Fun game but pretty buggy, Jean Grey and Invisible Womans 2nd power will crash the game so if you plan to use them I strongly recommend not leveling those powers at all, the free DLC with all the sim missions is extremely nice despite the glitchiness of the game most of it can be resolved by just reloading. Other than that it's an iffy buy, still an extremely fun game though.

Dr.Mobius
Dr.Mobius

This port needs a lot of work still.

The RT for the xbox one controller on Win 10 still has not been fixed so you can't use any powers with controller, and even with mouse+keyboard movment feels like your running on an inverted yoga-ball and your character will just get stuck next to a wall sprinting in circles and the only way to fix it is to switch characters.

To use powers on the mouse+keyboard you need to hold Ctrl then press 1-4, if you try to do this you'll notice its not very comfortable / intuitive, you can rebind controls but it can break other controls that don't use the buttons your rebinding.
i.e. I rebound Tab to Ctrl and it stopped 1 from being quick attack.

Also I have never had a game try to give me the controls for mouse+keyboard and controller at the same time.... until now, "To dodge, use the left stick in any direction and press LShift". (when you use the controller or the mouse+keyboard it disables the other one so its not even like I could use both)

It doesn't feel like they put any work into this, they just slapped it up on steam with a price tag x5 larger than it should be (even if it worked).

Do not buy this game unless you want it in your library for nostalgia. its not enjoyable in the slightest with what you have to put up with.

Looks like this got pulled from the store two days after I bought it. That's fine, I don't plan to return it, but I hope it doesn't vanish from my games list. I'm writing this review for the sole purpose of adding a rational perspective to the vitriol of other recent reviews.

If all you wanted was a little nostalgia and to remember what Marvel looked like when Iron Man was the only Disney/Marvel movie released to date, here's how you do it. It's a 10 year old game. It still looks and plays like a 10 year old game. It's not optimized for today's machines. And it's totally playable on keyboard. You can change the mappings to whatever you want.

It had the added bonus of only being 10 bucks, but now it's gone, so who knows.

Markiplier Jumpscare

I'd love to give this game only good feedback. The controller works well, for me at least. (I'm using a ps4 controller WITHOUT a 3rd party input mapper program) The game itself is not that bad, but I tried saving an hour or more after my last save only to find out that saving was disabled for no reason whatsoever and that the game, although it was enabled, never autosaved past the FIRST cutscene. I essentially beat the entire first level and got most of the way through the second only to find out that the game decided to be quirky and not save and completely disable saving for absolutely no reason. I never entered any cheats. Not only has this happened to me three times now, but it also has a severe crashing problem. I've seen the intro to the ninja cyborgs probably 7 times now and I'm reaching the "I'm never playing this again" decision rather quickly because of the near constant crashing and the time it completely disabled saving to be quirky and say "I'm not like other games". The only reason I got this game is because it was on sale. Not worth full price at all with these problems and seemingly discontinued support. I'm not refunding this game because it could someday allow me to play it. If it ever allows me to play without severe problems, I may change my review.

3/10 only for nostalgia's sake because I had this game on another platform before my console stopped reading the disc.

Flat Earth Moon Truther
Flat Earth Moo…

This is currently my absolute favorite game. Fascinating story, great writing including plenty of laugh out loud quips from Deadpool and the other more humorous characters. A lot of reviews complain about the game being buggy, but it seems that the majority of issues were patched out. I experienced no audio crackle, no crashes, and my xbox controller was mapped perfectly by default. The game isn't 100% bug free, but there's nothing game breaking or that causes you to lose a lot of progress. This is the best superhero game out there and definitely one of the best games of all time. If you don't own this game, you aren't truly living.

The game controls are still bad for pc. MOST of the problem you have objectives to destroy but you cant target them. You have to move your attack in its general direction and hope for the best. I had to fight bishop and i had to destory panels so he could not recharge, i could never target the panels to destroy them with area attacks or direct attacks after 45 minutes i quit. i can fire just fine I just cant target objective i dont know if its a bug or game play. SO this game being removed from steam is no big loss.

This is another nostalgia buy. I purchased this on one of the sales, because I wanted to replay the campaigns again. And well... it still holds up.

Now, in this one the Civil War happens. Based off the comic event that rocked Marvel... and well, was not all that well-received at times. It is a great game, and a decent follow-up to the first.

Thing is, it appears Activision lost the license to sell the game, and it has disappeared back into the whisps of time. Just felt I needed to give a review for it.

The game is fun, BUT there are some controller issues (had to use a chinese program to remap the controller controls for this game to make it work), the game is short and for some reason the achievements didn't unlock (maybe because of the remap injection). So would I recommend it.... No, there are too much things broken and it won't be fixed. Which is a shame, because I liked the first game (which I replayed some days ago) alot, this game was also shorter than that one and I missed the "bonus" missions with the cool impact stories at the end. Still looking forward to part 3 later this year on the Switch.

Terrible Port... issues recognizing the controller... lack of support after so much time since the release... just poorly supported.

Story is pretty good with a good length to it. But combat is too easy unless you're on max difficulty, and for some reason my xbox controller doesn't work completely (although my PS4 controller did).

Trying to play with a keyboard and mouse is immensely frustrating. It's a shame, I loved the previous game in the series but I have given up trying to make progress with this.

The PC port of this game is absolute garbage. I used to be able to do a workaround by remapping the controls using a third-party program to get past the fact that the buttons are literally mapped incorrectly, but now, not even THAT is possible. What's more, you can't delete your save files! Absolute garbage.

Tried for awhile to get his to run with no luck. Steam won't refund it because apparently I spent too long troubleshooting it before I gave up. Only buy this if your favorite super power is staring at a Microsoft crash report.

I really want to recommend this game, given how much I love the original game. I grew up playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 on PS2, and fell in love with the Marvel universe partly because of it. When this game came out, I missed the initial release window and decided to rectify that when the first two MUA games got remastered. But this game... it just isn't it.

The level design is the most egregious aspect of this game. Comparing it to the first MUA, the environments are boring and samey, with very little variation outside of factories, streets and underground tunnels. However, the worst part of MUA2 is the combat. This game seems to think unending wave battles are the way to go in every level at least five times. Not only that, but most level objectives go:
1. Move object and wave battle
2. Destroy object and wave battle
3. Fight boss and/or bigger wave battle
4. Cutscene

Rinse and repeat. I really wanted to like this game and maybe even complete it, but I got stuck on an elevator level in the last 1/3 of the game and chose to just quit to keep my sanity intact. On top of all that, the game's audio and object collision bugs out on a regular basis, indicating major mistakes in porting the game to PC as it didn't initially release on the platform.

There are positive things about this game. I appreciate the lean towards more realistic graphics, even if it comes at the cost of less vibrant and creative level design, and the VA performances were more than passable. I also like the addition of fusion attacks and the return of healing tokens from X-Men Legends 2.

Ultimately (no pun intended), this game does not live up to the original's creativity and gameplay quality. I'd probably give it a 4/10.

While initially enjoyable, there’s only a finite amount of fun to be had.

While it sounds like it would be incredibly entertaining to create your own team of dynamic superheroes from the Marvel universe, the lack of nuance mixed with the over-simplified combat means that teams blend together and have a shocking lack of actual variety.

Below Average.
Trust me, the novelty wears out.

I cannot get it to work properly in co-op anymore. Both this and MUA1 have the same problem of registering Player 1's controller commands on P2-P4 characters, P2 on P3-P4, and so on. This is inexcusable, these are console ports, how in the nine hells do you manage to be so incompetent as to screw something like that up?! And then you have the nerve to sell this for money, and advertise it as if the co-op works? Shame.

Possibly the best brawler of all time, 2D or 3D.* ** ***

*With terrible writing
**Atrocious voice acting
***And a nearly unplayable Steam port. Severe framerate stutters, broken cutscenes, and the entire game becomes literally unplayable near the end.

Fun game, boss fights make you use your brain pretty often or at least listen to the dialogue instructions rather than just smash. Nice graphics especially for the age. Controller support requires changing an option in the steam library controller properties to "enable steam input".
Solid hero game, I recommend the "Force of Nature" team of Iceman, Human Torch, Storm and Jean Grey or Thor. That gives you 5% of your damage done back as HP, very good for a first playthrough.

As of August 29th, 2021, this is still the best Marvel game. It's criminal in MUA3 or Marvel Avengers you cannot play as Juggernaut.
