Let's just say that this is the non-puritanical version of Castlevania. You can also safely introduce your church youth group to retro-style games by opting for the SFW option. Win Win.

Pretty much feels like Castlevania just with succubi involved. I fell in love with the visuals and the music, the devs did a good job at making it look retro. At first glance the gameplay was a bit confusing and also hard due to simplistic control but it was fun to figure it out. Same about items, there is not really a discription to them and if you replaced your item the old one is gone, it's pretty much a try and error thing. Sometimes it can be repetetive, i remember like swapping area in front of the first boss stage (the harpy one) to spawn coins that are used as ammo. It is challenging at some points but i think games should be in general.

This is possibly the best Castlevania 2 clone I've ever played - which was quite shocking for a NSFW game. Personally, I play in SFW mode because I have kids and a wife. If BBW pixel art women with thicc tiddies are your thing...they're here if that floats your boat. Either way, it's a genuinely well made game that nails so much about what makes Castlevania-style games great. Even the music is very good.

100% completed this game in less than 24 hours. It was really fun! And the Queen of Flames is hot as fuck ngl.

Just found out that the game just went on sale, but that's cool. The devs deserve my money.

I wanna say I like this game like the others from criticalbliss i really do but one of the core functions (character selection) doesn't work at all at it's too annoying to me to want to play it

TL;DR Its Castlevania with T+A and sex, with full screen still images of anime chicks en flagrante. Weeee! In seriousness though, its not a bad game. Plays like a combo of all the 8 bit castlevanias, but better. And theres the option to turn off the NSFW imagery, if you (like me) have really no interest in seeing full screen pixel art sex images. But for those who do like that kind of stuff, they are well rendered. Warning: The NSFW version has a LOT of rape imagery and dialogue, so if that bugs you ONLY play the SFW version.

A review from the perspective of a female-

Surprisingly, unlike nearly every other adult game Ive ever seen, theres a really decent 8 bit style Metroidvania RPG under the nekkid stuff - so its worth playing if you are into that style of game. The sex stuff is actually a really small part of the overall game and really isn't integral to the plot at all, just some well drawn pixel art of nekkid anime chicks getting boinked by dicks, demons, tentacles and whatever else on load screens, when you rescue someone, and when you die.

WARNING: There is a lot of of nonconsent and implied rape dialogue and imagery though, so if you dont dig that and want to play choose the SFW option at the beginning.

Ive tried the NSFW and SFW both for this review, and find the sex stuff kind of gratuitous and unneeded. The game is good enough to stand on its own - but I get that some people would like to see it.

The game itself plays kind of like a cross between all the NES castlevanias and multidirectional whip of Castlevania IV. Theres towns with people to talk to, stuff to buy, skills to learn, dungeons to explore, horny demons to kill, quests to go on, and other skimply dressed chicks with different abilities who join you on your quest, ala Castlevania 3.

One amusing thing in NSFW is if the main char takes a hit that would kill her, her armor breaks off and she runs around naked with 1hp, tits jiggling away. From that state its death if you take another hit before you heal.

If you die, it shows a cut scene involving the main char getting sexually assaulted by demons.

Not really my cup of tea, but I also am not the type to get super offended over it either. I found it kind of funny. Its cartoony and ridiculous. I could see how thered be an issue with a horny teenage boy or emotionally stunted young adult man who doesnt really understand how sex works playing it and thinking chicks dig rape or something (spoiler: We don't), but for actual adults who understands the difference between real life and silly fantasy porn, its fine.

The one issue I had is like playing Castlevania on an emulator, the game is not really built for a modern analog stick. I kept triggering my special accidentally which takes money to use when playing with a controller since, like Castlevania, its up attack to use. So playing with a controller and being on the stairs can be a royal pain as you repeatedly accidentally drain your money tossing your special all over as you move on the stairs. But its minor.
Music is good chiptunes, and there is fully mappable controller options.

Overall, as surprised as I am to do this, I'd have to recommend it to any retro Metroidvania fan on gameplay alone, The sex stuff is just a bonus, if youre into that kind of thing.

It's a great metroidvania. The only thing I'd like to see is in game controller support. Other than that it's clever, dirty, and fun.

I'm at about the halfway mark in the game, as far as I can tell. It's a pretty solid game, though a minimalistic erotic game from what I can see.

Going into this game, you need to have some NES chops. After I figured out what the controls with the keyboard were (X to attack, C to jump, Spacebar for menu, Arrow Keys for movement, and Z+Down Arrow to transform) it wasn't too bad, but I played Castlevanias I and II recently, and those are clearly the main source of influences for the game. There aren't really many unfair moments as long as you're paying attention. Money is plentiful enough that I never really needed to grind for it, but I did need to pick it up when it appeared. The actual movement and combat is similar to early Castlevanias, but a hair more forgiving. You have unlimited lives and when you lose all your health, you restart the room you were on.

The actual erotic bits are kinda sparse, but impressively implemented while sticking to a general late 8 bit style. As far as I can tell, there's a brief animation then a CG stillframe during game overs. You also lose your armor when you take a hit that would have killed you and drop down to 1 HP. The character is nude except for a pair of panties. Most of the bosses are nude, and there is a CG image on transition screens indicating you're near a captured village girl. And that's it. As far as I can tell, it's more of something that happens in the game, rather than its focus. Think of Witcher or Mass Effect's handling of nudity, make it a bit more extreme and you're in the right neighborhood. I wasn't surprised to find there's a SFW mode for the game, as if you were to put bikini tops on the bosses, get rid of the Ghouls and Ghosts losing armor mechanic, and get rid of the game over screens, it wouldn't be any more explicit than Street Fighter V.

Not to say that it's a bad thing. The game overall is a great throwback to NES attempts at Metroidvanias before they were a thing. It controls well, and is pretty fun. It's just worth knowing that if you're looking for something like Eroico or HuniePop, you're probably going to be disappointed. You want to play a solid platforming adventure game with a dash of erotic imagery thrown in? This is a great pick.

This game is really good but it's actually just h0rny Castlevania 2. Castle in the Clouds (a sort of semi sequel to this game) is a very clearly castlevania inspired game. This is genuinely just Castlevania 2, it's the game with new mobs and a new main character in it.

I mean it's good, Castlevania 2 is a good game. A bit weird. But good.

Castlevania 2 with some added features, like backtracking for rewards, and some interesting pixellated porn.

The game is a pretty good Castlevania-esque game with lewd. Controls are nice, level design is great, boss battles are fun and creative, and the lewd scenes are good. Pretty solid game all around. The game even has a SFW mode if you want to stream it or if you don't like the lewd. My only gripe with the game is that it sometimes crashes when picking up crucial items such as keys and red gems. Another minor nitpick is that if I use the latest version of Proton (Steam's version of WINE for Linux users), then the game runs at a slow 10-15ish frames. Luckily older versions of Proton such as 5.13-6 play the game at a solid 60fps like it's supposed to.

This game was a delightful surprise. It has a similar feel to older Castlevania games in terms of combat and exploration, but with a lewd twist. The pixel art is gorgeous, and everything from the monsters, girls, and sex scenes all have so much personality with a retro aesthetic. This is a game that can definitely hold up even without the adult content. That is just used to enhance what is already a pretty fun game.

This game is actually Good. Lewd titles can get a bad rap sometimes, but as far as gameplay MCS is easily on par with the original Castlevania and any number of games that model themselves after its legacy.

iriyap

This is a really basic Castlevania clone. You jump, whip and throw sub-weapons. The only unique gimmick is this party system where you get invincible NPC's that follow you around and spam projectiles to make an easy game even easier. It's technically a metroidvania, but backtracking for collectibles is incredibly tedious due to the slow movement speed and the large size of maps. The environments are very repetitive, most enemies are passive. Bosses are poorly designed and can often be cheesed by e.g. ducking in a corner and whipping. If you're looking for a tightly designed old school challenge you won't find anything of the sort here. The porn is barely there too, you get 1 girl per chapter with 1 pixel animation + 1 CG each. Plus a death scene for the main heroine. All scenes are non-con.

To be frank, the 2D pixel art / NES aesthetic platformer genre is incredibly oversaturated at this point, and there are many better games like Shovel Knight, The Messenger, Cyber Shadow, Axiom Verge etc. What little porn this game has is not enough to make it worth your time.

SteadyMetal0623
SteadyMetal0623

A solid Castlevania-styled game that does its inspiration justice. The map can be a little cryptic and the timer use item is too strong (though expensive to spam), but otherwise a really good game.
I played the nsfw version, but checked the sfw version and everything is the same sans sexual content which is nice. Refreshing to play an h-game with good gameplay.

Adult oriented games tend to get a bad rap, usually because said mature content takes preference over the game itself instead of both being worked on equally, which leads to the final product being lacklustre as a result: at that point, many would simply choose to look up what they want to see on the Internet and not bother to play the game. Midnight Castle Succubus DX isn’t like that: it’s an adult game that delivers its adult material throughout a well-crafted and fun experience.

The game’s a 2D side-scrolling metroidvania through and through, and one specifically inspired by one of the earliest pioneers of the genre all the way back on the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), which is Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. The open-ended level design encourages exploration, and the map is comprised of various areas with diverse locales for the players to go through as they make their way towards rescuing the captive girls and to face the final boss.

It’s worth mentioning that the game’s structure isn’t the only thing the creators took inspiration from: the game itself is basically a throwback to the third console generation. The graphics, which carry a moderately anime aesthetic, look just like those of the 8-bit era, albeit of better quality but visually appealing nonetheless and running flawlessly. Similarly, the music also has retro acoustics, yet that doesn’t stop it from providing a great soundtrack. Some of my favourite compositions are Afterlight Confrontation, Shrouded in Twilight, Crisis at Evenfall, Deadlock and Flames in the Dark.

Gameplay-wise, the heroine uses a whip as her main weapon to fend off any threats in her path and can progressively become more powerful via the acquisition of some of the collectibles and by purchasing upgrades, from stronger whips to tomes that improve her mobility and versatility. Said upgrades are bought with coins, which also serve as ammo for the different sub-weapons found across the levels. Finally, while not directly playable, four companions can be recruited on the journey which, when selected, will tag along with the playable character, primarily helping to dish out more damage although some like the thief can also be useful by pointing out secrets, for example.

There are different types of collectibles throughout the adventure which will be beneficious in one way or another, either right after grabbing them, during the playthrough or upon starting New Game Plus to purchase extras such as new character sprites, an OP (overpowered) mode, or a gallery that shows a large collection of erotic pixel portraits, a topic which I’ll get more into right away.

The player will always be asked to select which version they wish to play before the game boots up, either SFW (Safe for Work) or NSFW (Not Safe for Work), a very thoughtful feature on its own that ensures the game can be played anywhere without risk. The content within the game will change depending on what’s chosen, either uncensored or censored: for example, both loading and game over screens will display erotic pixelated art and animated sequences respectively or be blank, bosses will appear in more feminine and sexualised figures or more genderless and monster-like looking, and the captive girl sprites will either be sexually engaging with monsters while naked or all dressed and standing up.

It took me just a little over eight hours to finish my first playthrough of the game, though I’m pretty sure seasoned players need less than that. In addition, the game’s difficulty can be toggled at any moment from the Settings menu, and you’re allowed to save anywhere, anytime, so it’s as convenient as it can be. As briefly mentioned with the collectibles, completionists will be provided with extra rewards that are sure to serve as a nice incentive for replaying the game and trying them out.

Just as with any metroidvania, the sensation one gets from looking back at the starting point once they’ve advanced and become progressively more powerful and capable, enough to breeze through previously challenging sections and be prepared for whatever comes next, is one of the main goals games of this genre should strive for and Midnight Castle Succubus DX delivers it in spades: it was that pleasant sensation that made me not mind backtracking to previous areas for one reason or another and showed me how far I came since I began playing.

Needless to say, I’ve very much enjoyed my time playing Midnight Castle Succubus DX and would love to see more adult games made like this; it proves they can be of quality and just as good as any other game you can think of. I believe the asking price is very much worth it as is, though I’d still encourage those curious but doubtful to pick it up while it’s on sale: hopefully, more people will purchase it and support good adult games and their creators.

Specs of the machine I used to play the game:
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
- Processor (CPU): Intel® Core™ i3-4005U @ 1.70 GHz, 1700 Mhz
- Graphics Card (GPU): Intel® HD Graphics Family
- Memory (RAM): 4 GB

At it's core it's a pretty solid metrovania. On it's shell it's a pretty pixel art game with a lot of really nice sprite designs, some very pretty bosses, and some very well drawn H-scenes.
This game (the steam DX version) differs from the DL site origional in that it has a new, custom soundtrack, fully uncensored H-scenes, controller support, and some translations.
It's a sexy Castlevania-like. Play it.

Controls are good, art great if you like pixel-style art. Definitely plays better than most other side-scroller adult-oriented action platformer games, at least that I've played.

. . . and it even has a SFW mode if that's a concern of yours.

It's pretty much an amazing Castlevania homage, with hentai elements. You can completely turn off the hentai and the game is still amazing.

Midnight Castle Succubus is a surprisingly good retro style metroidvania, hentai game. Now the story. 100 years a powerful succubus cums to the world and threatens the land, killing the men and kidnapping the women. But when all hope seems lost, a hunter thrusts onto the land vowing to wipe the succubus into submission and promising to bring the cursive night to a climactic end.

Alright let's get down and dirty into the likes, Will to start the gameplay is fun, it plays like any classic Castlevania Game you have your standard whips and sub weapons my personal favorites of the sub weapon is the boomerang cross. But you also have to get money in order to use the sub weapons which is an interesting idea having to use your money to use your sub weapons and have enough to buy the upgrades.

Also this game takes a lot of inspiration from Castlevania 2 Dracula's curse, but unlike that game this game plays a lot better. After you defeat the succubus you get cursed and you have to collect her body parts in order to destroy her just like in Dracula's curse, but you are able to transform into a succubus yourself and by getting her body parts you unlock new powers you can use in your succubus form which was a really interesting idea.

The enemies and bosses are very good, especially the bosses each having their own unique and sexy design. The pixel graphics are very good definitely captures the feel of an old-school game and while being quite detailed especially when seeing all the hentai stuff.

The levels in the game are very good, nice and varied with plenty of villages, forests and castles to explore. The music in the game is very good with plenty of nice tracks to listen too.

Now on to the hentai, it was very good, nice and sexy with plenty of the classic staples of hentai. Also after you die you are treated to a sexy kinky scene that after you complete it you start back to the place where you died with full health.

Also when the game is loading you are treated to sexy pictures and when your health gets knocked down to one your armor comes off leaving you naked.

The game also does a great Balancing Act between having porn while still having fun and interesting gameplay. But the best part of the game is that if you're not into that hentai stuff there's a safe for work mode you can play.

Alright let's get down and dirty into the dislikes, and honestly there's not really anything to dislike about this game it's pretty good, there are some little glitches but honestly nothing really noticeable.

Okay then with that said, Midnight Castle Succubus is a surprisingly good retro style metroidvania, hentai game. With a lot to like, like fun gameplay, very good enemies and bosses and nice and sexy hentai to see.

So if your interested in Metroidvania like games or fan of hentai games this is the game for you, and if you don't like hentai you can always play the game without it and this game is a lot better than Dracula's curse ever was.

its a pretty fun game so far although its very similar to castlevania i still enjoy it none the less.

Very cool idea: it would be cool if you could port this to the original NES or even the SNES for better sprite quality: because the SNES is slightly more powerful) because i honestly think this game would be cool on a cartridge. Even though i have not played very far into the game i like the style and the theme of castlevania lol. .

I like the artwork, the gameplay its ok and the music is cute, but there is no guide or waypoint or nothing like that, its too messy, i dont understand what im doing and it doesnt have a story, so... whats going on?! No idea.

I couldnt find motivation to go on, and i wouldnt be able even if i did find it. Confusing and messy, but nice and sexy.

Also, up and hit button waste the special attack and you cant change it. Its not very smart to put it there guys. Half of the controller have no use... but you decide to go with up/hit?

As a God-fearing Christian Male, I bought this game thinking it was about driving out the Wicked She-Devils from the land with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ. Little did I know I was walking into a den of filth and perversion personally created by Satan the Deceiver. Again and again my eyes were assaulted with displays of lust and depravity so vile it would make the Apostle Peter beg for martyrdom. But I would not let Satan defeat me! I watched every single one of those disgusting scenes, all while beating my body and quoting the Lord's Prayer until the Demons were expelled from me, over and over again!

So beware you Sinners! This may look like a decent Metroidvania, but it is truly tainted with the Devil's Hand. All Good Christian Men should buy this game so we may proclaim to Satan that he will NOT lead us into the Path of Sin and that we can overcome ANY Temptation the Serpent should throw at us in the Name of the Lord. Praise Jesus!

I'm seeing an increasing amount of hentai games that not only deliver the goods when it comes to sex, but also have the gameplay to match, and Midnight Castle Succubus is one of them. If you like the old school NES Castlevania games, this is perfect. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that this is the game that Konami was trying to make when they were working on SImon's quest years back.

You basically play as a Simon Belmont.....oops, I meant the Succubus hunter, who sets off to rescue several women from the Succubus and her minions. When you find them, they're in the process of engaging in sex that you wouldn't call consensual. The weapons you'll find are familiar to castlevania fans, although they can become overpowered. You also find allies who fight alongside you, such as a healer, a knight, and a thief who can help you find hidden items.

Like a true Metroidvania, you unlock powers and abilities that open up sections of the map. My only issue is that the fast travel could be a bit better implemented, as I can only travel between a few specific points.
You reach a point where you think you've ended the game, but there is a twist that will seem familiar to you if you played Symphony of the Night. After you beat the game, you can unlock additional cheats and features with the crowns you collect during the game, so there is a bit of replay value.

The devs also included a safe for work mode, so you can even enjoy the game without the porn, or even stream it.

MCS was one of my favorite games from last year. If you like Castlevania, check it out. I got a video review on xvideos. If you want to see it, just search for my name.

Midnight Castle Succubus is a genuinely fun to play and generally enjoyable Proto-Metrovania in vein of Castlevania 2, done much better.
The story is basically a retelling of first two Castlevania games with bits of Castlevania 3 and Rondo of Blood, but with a Succubus for Dracula, many different monster ladies for other bosses, kidnapped village girls to save and a lady huntress wielding a whip as a main protagonist who's able to find three other warrior ladies to join her cause.
Controls are tight, graphics are very well done for the style chosen, music is nice, bosses are pretty engaging though they get a bit too fat in HP by the end of the game.
Genuinely recommended for any Castlevania/Metrovania fan who is not afraid of eroge, especially considering that the game has a SFW version.

But speaking of NSFW content, it's nice, well made pixel art CGs are always appreciated, though i wish little animation were a bit more done, long and with more variations, but oh well, this is one Eroge that didn't really push towards sex anyway. I'd say it might actually disappoint some people with its Gameplay and everything to Sex ratio, ha.

An Outstanding 8-bit Metroidvania Despite The Out Of Place NSFW Feature. Highly Recommended: 9/10

For Linux & Steam Deck: Platinum experience with Proton 6.3-7. There is no way to resize the window to full screen though so you have to play it in 720p only.

The partnership of Pixel Teishoku and Libra Heart has produced a marvelous 8-bit metroidvania. The result is a beautiful re-contextualizing of the original 1986 Castlevania, 1987 Castlevania and 1989 Castlevania 3. Open-ended maps with loads of secrets, good level design, bosses that are fun and creative as well as various power-ups and weapons, allies and alternate characters that control so good you just want to keep playing. The only weird feature are the Hentai art, which while being of high quality, is very much out of place in the game. Indeed, the game would be otherwise fine without all the ecchi art, and a SFW option is available on launching the game. Regardless, the art is still great, as fans of Libra Heart will testify and it paced throughout the game unassumingly, tastefully and with tact.

This is a start of a beautiful partnership between Pixel Teishoku and Libra Heart. Midnight Castle Succubus is a substantial and robust 8-bit metroidvania that deserves more fans and purchase. Highly recommended.

What’s Excellent

    • Excellent game fundamentals, controls and movement.
    • Great map and level design that rewards exploration and discovery.
    • Substantial progression, economy and combat.
    • Innovative use of party members.

The developer have nailed the very fundamentals of good 2D side-scrolling adventure with controls and movement. Tight and responsive, you are able to command your nameless whip-lashing heroine accurately and effortlessly.

The open-ended map is full of secrets rooms, nooks and crannies as well as various biomes that are colorful and distinct from one another, coupled with a good level design that while doesn’t push the limit of platforming, does at times require above average skill for precision platforming. Exploration and discovery are rewarded with weapon and HP upgrades.

While there is no rpg-like leveling system, the game rewards players with substantial new abilities such as dashing, double-jump, downward attacks that greatly improve your combat and platforming repertoire. Combat too is satisfying, enemies are not too overpowered nor annoying, and bosses are creative and fun to encounter.

You also have the ability to recruit party members that you can only equip one at a time. They don’t receive damage and I find them very useful. Thief for example, will throw multiple daggers that will fly the length of screen which is useful to clear out rooms and assist in boss fights. Other party members are also very useful, such as the monk that can heal your character at any time, without MP cost.

What’s Good

    • Good 8-bit music.
    • Ecchi art is high quality.
    • Story is simple but effective, with a twist at the middle.

The music here is very reminiscent of the 1980s Castlevania. Fun and upbeat though it lacks it’s own hook and identity. The music has been greatly improved in Castle In The Clouds.

The art by Libra Heart is also very good, which has it’s own distinctive cute and naughty sense art-style that is easily identifiable.

The story is also good, simple but good as well as having a wonderful surprise midway in the game. I won’t spoil it for you; it’s best that you experience it yourself.

What Could Be Better

    • Ecchi art is out of place in the game.

I would like to note that this isn’t a negative, but simply an observation. The game would’ve been fine without the non-vanilla ecchi art. The inclusion of it doesn’t remove anything from the game, but it doesn’t quite add anything to the game play either. It’s simply a bonus and you have the option to turn it off.

Pixel Teishoku and Libra Heart did address this issue in Castle Of The Clouds, where the lewd scenes and artwork not only got better, but it also have function within the game as part of it’s mechanic. The solution there was decently clever.

Conclusion

This is definitely among the best, if not the best 8-bit style metroidvania out there. What I would like to see is Midnight Castle Succubus, but with improved graphics. Instead of 8 or 16 bit, rather go all out with modern 2.5D style graphics and artwork.

In the mean time, Midnight Castle Succubus is a high quality game that deserves more attention if not your consideration. Highly recommended.

Fun metroidvania 8 bit game in the style of Castlevania with a few additional items thrown in, a bit easy on normal, so if after a challenge, then play it on hard. And yes there is 8 bit nudity thrown in, so enjoy.

KANEDA RISING

Midnight Castle Succubus DX is a hentai-infused Metroidvania game that actually holds up on its own merit using the SFW version, free from the hentai.

The story is pretty simple, and basically follows Castlevania I and II's storyline, but with succubi terrorizing the land rather than Dracula and a host of horror monsters. I think the story is actually the weakest part of this game. Interestingly enough, there is more lore in the Tower and Sword of Succubus games. Here, it's pretty straight forward.

The gameplay is reminiscent of the NES Castlevania games, but as mentioned above, with better controls. By this, I mean you can redirect jumps, they offer upgrades like double jumps, hovering, flying, etc.,. In short, the controls are completely serviceable to the game.

The graphics are where this game really shines. I'm a sucker for pixel art and pixel animation, and Libraheart's style is fantastic. There is a variety of backgrounds to wade through and quite a differing number of enemies as well.

While a first-time playthrough on normal difficulty can certainly be completed in under 10 hours, there really is a lot to this game. When the game starts, it seems like it will be a "Classicvania" knock-off, but quickly it reverts to the "Metroidvania" style, replete with its own "upside down map" equivalent (it's not actually an upside down map like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but the second map is large on a comparable level to the first map). I really wasn't expecting so much out of what is essentially a smut game with a SFW option, so perhaps my expectations were lower than most, but I was genuinely surprised to see how large this game is.

As mentioned, this game can stand on its own merit even after removing the smut. I recommend the SFW version if you're looking for old school NES homage like I am.

A pretty boring game with the worst/most confusing control scheme ever (you can't even customize keybinds either aside from making x to jump instead of w). While the concept is good of an 8-bit adult game, the execution is incredibly poor and not worth $3 let alone $15.

Great quick Castlevania adult game. Bosses are challenging but can be cheesed if you want to go the easy route, tons of varied bosses and enemies that you never feel go out of style, and plenty of hidden health and CG unlocks to always keep you looking. Overall a great 5 hour run through.

Midnight Castle Succubus is a love letter to fans of horror movies, dark European folklore, and those remote strongholds,Gothic cathedrals, untouched primeval forests,or haunted mansions that have withstood the test of time. If you are a fan of both the classic Castlevanias and the Igavanias that became the "new direction" after SOTN you should buy this gem without hesitation!

What we have is a hybrid mishmash of Simon's Quest with the better parts of Dracula's curse tossed into the same cauldron. Aka,you gradually become more powerful as you find better gear and power-ups. You will also find other heroes to join you on your arduous journey. Luckily you are not forced to choose one out of the 4 specialists (Fighter,Monk,Witch, and Thief) as the map is more like Simon's Quest than CV3 that made you choose from a selection of linear paths then commit to them. Backtracking is allowed and very much encouraged. You can recruit every single assist character in the game and eventually even have them out all at once. This is because unlike CV 3 you do not control them but rather they all perform their random skills repeatedly whilst backing you up. (Think of the "pawn system" from Dragon's Dogma)

When I first began playing I thought I'd get to criticize the lack of a cohesive plot driven direction but the truth is the game is much more creative with its' scenarios than it lets on. The "cursed village segment" in particular really was the stuff of nightmares, recreating the scenario of a seemingly idyllic "small town" where everyone seems happy on the surface yet there's obviously something very wrong underneath all the strained smiles, baked apple pies, and overly cheerful candor of the residents. (I don't want to spoil how it unfolds but let's just say it was well done.) Certain locales such as the woodland swamp and ghost ship have so much ambiance and life to them that they spin their own yarns merely with their painstakingly detailed visual depictions.

Despite being an unnamed vagabond your daring deeds rescuing the local maidens and your triumphs over the games many monstrous bosses will make you feel every bit as accomplished as the very best vampire killer! What I'm saying is "somehow" Midnight Castle Succubus tells a good campfire tale without using over priced voice actors or drawn out character specific text crawls. 8 bit games back in the day really did have to be creative in that department as they didn't have the uncanny valley technology or star-power to turn their game into what is for all intents and purposes an interactive movie.

"Great Ben,but didn't you buy this game for the naughty shenanigans?" Okay, I'll get to that. Yeah, this is an H-game. It has erotic content. What is so strange to me is it really doesn't need it. All this game had to do is advertise itself as a good castlevania tribute with an attractive woman version of Trevor Belmont or Simon Belmont as the main lead and it would have still sold like hotcakes. There's even a non-lewd option to play thru the game as just that. (Shrugs)

For the record, the erotic pixel art is beautifully done if you are into that sort of thing and I suppose because we're dealing with "The curse of a succubus" it makes logical sense to have sex play a part in these proceedings.

Regardless there's no reason to feel guilty owning this "little monster" if you are already a big fan of games like Symphony Of The Night,Order Of Ecclesia,Vigil, and Bloodstained!

Pros

+MCS is the AWESOME no holds barred version of Simon's Quest we never got as kids!

+Despite being a tribute to castlevania MCS does enough things uniquely with its' gameplay, level design, and progression to not be a soulless rip off.

+If you enjoyed Dragon's Dogma's pawn system and wonder what it would be like to have an adventure party backing you up in a metroidvania styled side scroller "this" is your wish come true!

+A soundtrack that got better the longer I played.

+Lots of unlockables

+There is a clean vanilla version for gamers whom may be a bit uncomfortable around the adult rated sexual content.

+The game has two distinctly separate campaigns so you do get lotsa bang for your buck.

+Pixel art shown between the load screens is gorgeous. I wish I could weave magic of that magnitude using something as rudimentary as MS paint!

+Robust variety of creatures, monsters, and bosses. (Though expect to see a lot of skele-boys,bats,and zombies near the beginning before the bestiary diversifies more later on.)

Cons

-If you are not into retro 8 bit games from the nes era then MCS is a tough sell. While the spritework here is nothing short of amazing and would have pushed the nes to its' limits back in the day I know some people will not find this outing as 'easy on the eyes" as SOTN,Rondo Of Blood,or even CV Bloodlines on the SEGA Genesis.

Neutral

-/+There are many secrets off the beaten trail that can come off as a bit too obtuse and too well hidden despite the games very helpful clues. While this isn't the hardest game of its' ilk I've ever played it also is not going to hold your hand. Thus it is easy to skip over certain helpful power ups and upgrades. Frankly I appreciate that old skool approach to exploration but I know not all gamers enjoy bumbling around in the dark for hours on end just to find a out you have to kneel beneath a water fall 10 seconds so the fish-man will give you a snorkel device and some flippers! (That doesn't happen per se but some of the secrets are on that level of vagueness.) Regardless if you are a fan of metroidvanias or souls-likes you'll love this. If you are not? Well, you might want to give this one a pass then.

You can just tell a lot of love was put into making this game and it is not just another lewd title. Soundtrack, gameplay, boss fights, pixel art - they are all amazing. If you like classic Castlevania games and find the idea of mixing them with a little "mature" content, give this game a try.

It's a really fun MetroidVania game, with pixelboob. I mean, come on. Why are you looking at it if not for being a perv, or a lover of older style games?

It's a ton of fun to play, and really REALLY hearkens back to the good old Nintendo days. Honestly, if they trashed the H scenes and all, it'd be a fantastic game just as an ecchi style as well!

Midnight Castle Succubus is a well executed, fairly simple metroidvania with porn mixed in. It is refreshing to find some smut that is also a full playable video game.

Good:
-Full controller support(I used a 360 controller) with responsive and satisfying controls
-There are 64 HCG in total, each one is very high quality and the pixel art-style reminds me of old PC-98 H games
-Good oldschool story line of "Kill monster -> Save babe"
-Comfy retro vibes from the chiptune voice set, color pallate and sprite work
-Cool looking bosses that are fun to fight
-Map is fun to explore and look for secrets in
-Without spoiling anything, you have to play the game through at least twice to unlock about half of the HCG so there is an element of replayability

Criticisms
-After rescuing the babe they kinda just teleport away and can't be located again in world as far as I can tell, it would be
more fun, I think if you could find them back in the village and interact with them some more
-The HCG appears on loading screens and can really go by too fast to see. (You can view the HCG you unlock from the
gallery in the main menu at your leisure so this isn't a huge deal)

Considerations
-All but a scant few of the H scenes are entirely Non-con so if that's something that will affect you negatively, you may
want to give this one a miss
-The game is a tad short for a metroidvania(I finished my first blind playthrough 100% in 12.5 hours)
-The H scenes are not interactive, so be aware if you were expecting that

All in all, I highly recommend this game, It's extremely rare to find a porn game that is also this much of a video game.
The 2D tiddies look mighty fine in this one.

It's a short game (I beat it in just over 5 hours) with some replayability. It's very much styled after the old Castlevania games, but with lessons learned over the years incorporated (like not including any frustrating instant-death mechanics). The hentai is kind of a side thing, and not at all a focus. The devs obviously just wanted to make a good game, and they did. If you're not getting this for the gameplay, you might be disappointed.

(Not finished game at time of writing). It is literally Castlevania with lewd bits. There is a SFW version that is offered when you launch the game but you cannot 'hide' the NSFW version if that is important to you.

So... 2d side-scrolling Castlevania. You upgrade your whip as you go along and fight your way through many levels and some interesting bosses where you learn their patterns. The interesting part of the game is you can collect party members, who have slightly different abilities and travel on the screen with you. You can swap them around at any time, though it is a little cumbersome to do so (menu, click, unselect current member, select current member, 2x back to get back to came). Considering the number of unused buttons on controller, it would had been nice to have a shortcut but the ability to swap on the fly will likely take a lot of the challenge from the game. Still, using a tedium barrier to prevent this isn't really a good option and I wish they did something else.

The pixel art is beautifully drawn and animated, both the full screen pictures and the enemies. Level art is clear so you can always see what is what. Controls are precise, but I personally struggle with the stairs behaviour since you fall through them be default unless you press "up", which then leads to me accidentally triggering the item attack. But that is just me sucking.

Really good retro fun. Recommend if you like these old-style Castlevania games and don't mind (or like) the raunchy artwork and style.

biceps always together!!
biceps always …

It's a lewd Castlevania. Perhaps most reminiscent of Castlevania 2, though I am no Castlevania expert.

It is not a joke nor a poor excuse to look at pixel titties. There are plenty of pixel titties to be looked at, but there is also a full game here. It is telling that the criticisms I have are the kind one would have while criticising a more traditional video game.

To get the basics out of the way, it works great. Controls are responsive, I had no technical difficulties of any kind, and the pixel art is very nice. The graphics are clear while playing and stylish in the cutscenes. It took me 15 hours to complete, finding all the collectables and unlocking the best ending. I did not play NG+ for the rest of the achievements.

The minor complaints I have are with pacing and difficulty. The game could be more difficult. While writing this I realized there were two additional difficulty settings I did not try, so if you want a challenge I recommend looking into those. On Normal it was often too easy to cheese the bosses. Many I cleared on my first attempt simply by spamming the special attack. One or two posed more of a challenge, and I enjoyed those. There is also an Easy mode if that's what you're into.

For its length, the game has an absurd amount of unlockable abilities. You get 6 different whips in the first 5 hours or so, each better than the previous with no reason to switch back. The Succubus character has 7 additional ability unlocks, in a game that totals just over a dozen hours. I would've gladly played the game longer just to let the abilities breathe a little bit. As it stands you unlock the next ability only a few rooms after the previous one. I suppose the lack of padding is commendable in its own right, though I doubt some added length would've felt like padding. You're frequently changing between biomes and various sets of enemies to keep things fresh.

Death carries no penalty, which is understandable in a game like this, but it does bring up the temptation to just run through each screen tanking all the damage. In the late game you unlock a flying ability, which lets you clear most rooms simply by hugging the top of the screen. There is obviously no requirement to play this way, but it could've been thought through some more.

I have previously reviewed Tower and Sword of Succubus and most of the praise I gave it applies here, so I won't repeat myself. If you're trying to choose between the two I recommend reading that review, though in short I would probably go for the Tower and Sword. The quality here is on par and it is longer than any of the individual games in Tower and Sword, I clocked the same amount of time into both, but just by virtue of having three different games Tower and Sword does offer more variety and more CG. I strongly recommend both, though.

Fun metroidvania game! Definitely has strong inspiration from Castlevania 2. There is a NSFW mode that shows various adult pixel scenes on occasion, which are generally well done, but are certainly not the focus of the game. Get this if you like metroidvania games, not for adult stuff.

Basically an old school 5 hour Castlevania with a side of hentai. If you are here only for the porn probably not really worth it since it isn't very often. The game itself was fun the other stuff was just a bonus. On normal I didn't find it difficult at all. The map is a bit of a mess while there aren't many places you'd need to use future abilities on there is no way to mark the map. The game has a warp system but it is only between two places so moving around the entire map is just annoying if you do want to backtrack for whatever reason. The controls are also annoying.

The game is buggy so I would suggest you save often. Had multiple glitches where I had to force quit the game. It does have an auto save but one time when I was 99% done it auto saved me dying over and over again. My last save was at 54%. Downloaded a 100% save and beat the final boss which was all I had left.

Flashman85
Flashman85

Let’s be clear: this is a thoroughly solid platformer inspired by the early Castlevania games, and you are given the option at startup whether to make it lewd.

The SFW version is on par with the source material, containing mild blood (used sparingly and tastefully as background decoration), a few scantily clad women, and slightly suggestive loading screens. The NSFW version replaces several graphics with nude alternatives (for example, swapping out the minotaur boss for a topless centaur woman), changes the gameplay so that a fatal hit destroys your clothes and leaves you with 1 HP, adds sexually explicit loading screens and game over sequences, and includes a gallery mode and an unlockable bonus character that aren’t available in the SFW version. It’s less an “uncensored” version and more like a ROM hack that shoehorns adult content into the game.

The core gameplay is a satisfying blend of platforming, combat, exploration, and light puzzle solving. Controls are responsive; challenges are fair; and there’s a lot of flexibility in how to approach the challenges, especially as you unlock more upgrades. Customization options are fairly limited, but there’s native controller support and an auto-fire feature, and you can change the difficulty (how much damage you receive from enemies) at any time. Dying sends you back to the entrance of the room you were in, with no loss of money or items.

I enjoy the art style, which captures the feel of the NES Castlevania games while also giving the game its own distinctive character. The music and sound effects do a good job of creating a comfortably tense and spooky atmosphere. One minor complaint is that the game isn’t entirely colorblind-friendly; for example, subtly different colors distinguish between regular blocks and ones that melt or crumble when you stand on them. Also, two of the unlockable bonus characters (and their gallery scenes) are in a somewhat different art style than the rest of the game, which is a bit jarring if you don’t realize they’re from other games by Libra Heart.

My two biggest complaints are that the game is glitchy and the fast-travel options aren’t as robust as they could be. I’ve experienced two hard crashes, several instances of still being able to move around after running out of health, a few bizarre glitches that seem to be unique to one particular room, and Achievements failing to unlock after switching from NSFW to SFW partway through the game. Although there are several portals that conveniently link two locations on the map, I ended up doing a LOT of tedious backtracking to clean up what I missed for 100% completion. Also, some of the bosses have a bit too much health for their own good, and the English text could use a bit more polish.

Overall, though, Midnight Castle Succubus is a well-designed retro-style platformer with good replay value and appealing aesthetics. I spent about 12 hours with it, reaching 100% completion and getting all the Achievements (which required two playthroughs). Your mileage may vary as to whether the optional NSFW elements add to or detract from the game. For me, the NSFW version seems like a rough attempt to make the game sexier than it’s designed to be, and the SFW version is a more cohesive experience that never feels like anything is missing. Recommended either way.

I was originally going to buy Odallus but it seems the developers of that game have abandoned it, on steam at least. As such I decided to finally buy this instead, a game that has been on and off my wishlist more than any other game due to fear of the lewd elements being too rapey or the game being too retro and therefore not enjoyable. It turns out it is... OK. It is like simon's quest but with lots of quality of life improvements although it could use some more. The lewd elements are not too excessive (besides there is a SFW version) and its nowhere near as bad as "unholy disaster" was. Overall I'm feeling lukewarm on this game and I recommend it on sale.

Midnight Castle Succubus is probably the most fun I've had playing a porn game...but considering most porn games barely have any gameplay at all, is that really saying much?

Real Boobs, Fake Castlevania

Midnight Castle Succubus is an 8-bit-style retro platformer, and is very clearly intended as a mishmash of the classic NES Castlevania games (to the point that some of the graphics border on infringement). You explore castles (of course) and crypts and ghost ships and other spooky locales, and you smack a bunch of creepy critters (and candles) with your whip along the way.

The obvious nod to Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse comes in the form of the partner characters you acquire along the way, who'll provide support and special abilities. Unlike CV3 however, these partners will follow you, mirroring your movements and providing cover fire; you don't actually play as them. Thankfully, they are invulnerable, so you don't have to babysit them. Later in the game, you can even use more than one of them at a time, which is super-cool.

But moreover, the game's design primarily suggests a sexier take on Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, and it initially seems to be making good on that promise. You're presented with a town where you can get information and buy equipment, and then it sends you out into the world with a few different routes to explore. Like any good Metroid clone, you'll find secrets hidden in the walls, and acquire power-ups that let you access areas that were off-limits before. All well and good.

But as the game goes on -- especially when you reach the back-half -- you'll begin to see cracks in this facade. That first town is basically the only town. The map design gradually becomes more rigid and linear, nearly abandoning the exploration-focused Metroid design entirely and feeling more like old-fashioned stage-by-stage progression. You still keep getting new power-ups, but several of them are little more than glorified keys; they'll let you climb a wall or swim through a tunnel so you can reach the next "level," but they're often not useful for much else. I sometimes forgot I even had certain abilities because they were needed so rarely.

The straightforward, horizontally-oriented level layouts often don't provide convenient shortcuts or long-distance fast-travel. That means if you need to backtrack, you're forced to simply navigate large swaths of previously-completed areas in reverse, then double back again so you can return to the main path. It makes backtracking brutally tedious.

Punish Me Harder, Daddy

If you're hoping the action will make up for the game's area design shortcomings, the moment-to-moment combat and platforming don't prove to be overly exciting either. Enemies don't even give you anything but money when defeated, and money becomes useless after a point, so I eventually just avoided combat entirely whenever possible.

However, the bosses are more imposing, and while their attack patterns are often simple, they can quickly shear off large portions your health, so there's not a lot of room for mistakes. But even then, the game's not very punishing: You have unlimited lives, and you respawn close to where you died. (And heck, because losing battles unlocks new sex scenes, you're kind of encouraged to fail.)

Fiddling with Your Joystick

The controller support for this game is spotty at best. Some people successfully get controllers to work; others do not. I tried an 8BitDo controller in both XInput and DirectInput modes, and also a PS4 controller, and neither worked, so I had to resort to using JoyToKey to force controller support. You might be stuck using the keyboard for this one.

The basic controls -- walking, jumping, climbing stairs, whipping, using sub-weapons -- work like classic Castlevania, just a little faster and less rigid. They're perfectly adequate, which is good since they're the controls you'll be using most.

But there are baffling decisions made with some of the advanced controls. Since you won't be using these as much, it's not a huge problem, but they do cause some confusion.

There are buttons to switch weapons, but since every new weapon you get is entirely superior to the old one, there's no reason to ever switch. You can't switch helper characters on the fly, instead requiring you enter the SUPPORT sub-menu on the pause screen to toggle them. Later on in the game, you can shapeshift into another form by pressing Down + Z key, but Z isn't used for anything else, so why doesn't just pressing Z alone make you transform?

(And you have to double-tap Left or Right in order to dash, which always sucks.)

You also eventually obtain a terribly unintuitive wall-jump, which is later made entirely obsolete thanks to additional movement power-ups you acquire, which makes me wonder why it's in the game at all.

Pornography of Dissonance

You might find it odd that I'm talking about Castlevania and control design a lot more than sex in this porn game review. That's because, if I'm honest, the sexual aspects of this game are a bit weak too.

The biggest issue is how little the sexuality is integrated into the actual gameplay. Monsters aren't groping you during combat, and you're not doing kinky side-missions like, say, collecting exotic sperm samples for a busty witch's brew. You're just jumping around and killing stuff like in any other game, and occasionally you'll see a big pixel-art portrait of a girl getting sexually-assaulted by creatures. They're very good portraits (though sadly not animated), and you can view them in a gallery after meeting certain conditions, but I wish they served more gameplay purpose.

Heck, the porn is so non-integral, you can just turn it off via the game's SFW mode. When the sexual content is completely optional in a porn game, something seems amiss.

Final Thots

This is a hard one to rate. I love the idea of a porn game that's more of an actual game, and not just jigsaw puzzles or pachinko with bare boobs, and I was genuinely having a lot of fun with it during its first half. Plus, I still bothered to finish it, which is something I can't say for many games I've played. But the more time I spent with Midnight Castle Succubus, the more it started to grate on me.

It reminds me a bit of The Messenger, but in reverse: It's an 8-bit throwback Metroid-style game that awkwardly transitions into being a linear action game, giving it an identity crisis that diminishes the entire experience. This feeling of wishy-washy non-commitment is further exacerbated by the game's flimsy, optional inclusion of sexual content.

Add in some control issues, and it's hard to recommend Midnight Castle Succubus to anybody except those who desperately need (admittedly excellent) portraits of hardcore anime sex sprinkled throughout their Castlevania game. For everyone else, you're probably better off seeking out Shantae for your sexy Castlevania fix.

I can only hope the latter games in the Succubus series display more confidence, better executing the classic game design philosophies they attempt to emulate, and unashamedly embracing their kinkiness. (Especially since I bought all three of them during a sale...)

Y'know, it's ironic: Konami isn't making actual Castlevania games anymore because they're too busy making almost-pornographic Castlevania-themed pachinko machines. Meanwhile, regardless of my overall opinion on the game, there's no denying that Midnight Castle Succubus -- which is actual pornography -- feels way more like a real Castlevania game than Konami's latest franchise exploits. Funny, isn't it?

I haven't reviewed this? How odd, since I really enjoyed it.

While you could enjoy a regular castlevania with some exploring and fighting, this adds some naked girls to simply make it a little spicier. If that is something you want to see, then this is better than castlevania. If you don't want to see naked girls, then this is worse than castlevania.

I have a faint memory that you could actually choose to play with the naked girls removed, but it could also be me just thinking that option would have made this game for everyone. Regardless I played through it twice testing to find all items and to not collect items, and with two different characters. Didn't get around to play through with a third, but it was enjoyable while I was playing.

The visuals are heavily inspired by the NES Castlevania trilogy, albeit with some extra details because we don't have to deal with console limitations. This being a h-game also means we got plenty of pixelated lewds. The pixel art is sublime and it really shines on all the scenes you can unlock. I have a huge respect for pixel artists, because I know just how hard it is to make good art like this, so hat's off to the devs.

Now if for whatever reason you are bothered by such things first of all: my condolences, second: You get a SFW version of the game for free which I'm gonna assume removes all the CGs and censors the rest of the game. I haven't bothered with it though, so I'm merely speculating.

MUSIC

The soundtrack is NES style and it fits the game. It starts out a bit weak, but it gets much better after a few levels. There are some absolute bangers in here, may favorite track being Under the Moonlight.

GAMEPLAY

You'd think a porn game wouldn't put much effort into its gameplay, but the based coomers who made this deliver in spades. The game takes bits from all 3 NES Castlevanias and while adding its own spin to the mix.

Overall it's structured like a metroidvania, but the map layout is akin to Simon's Quest. There are hidden power-ups for you to find as well as areas you won't be able to access immediately, so you'll be doing some backtracking later down the line once you acquire new abilities. Remember to whip walls, you never know what you might find.

Controls are similar to classic Castlevania, but you aren't locked into your jump like in the NES games. It's closer to Castlevania IV in that regard.

You can whip candles for money, killed enemies also drop them on occasion. Just like the hearts in Castlevania they double as both currency to buy items and ammo for your sub weapons, however you don't have a hard limit on how many you can carry here. If you whip everything out of habit like I do, by the time you reach the second half of the game you'll have more than enough cash to spam sub weapons like a maniac.

Similar to Dracula's Curse you'll meet other characters who can join you on your quest. However unlike said game you can have them fighting alongside you instead of switching to them. Initially you can only have one at a time, but depending on how many health upgrades you find you'll be able to increase that number. Find all characters and upgrades and by the end of the game you'll be leading a literal death squad.

The bosses aren't particularly difficult once you learn their patterns, but they are fun to fight. This applies to the game as a whole. An interesting idea the devs added here is a sort of last chance mode. When you lose all your health your clothes get destroyed. Get hit again before you manage to heal yourself and you die, then get sent to the dungeon for the monsters to have their way with you before you're booted back to the last checkpoint. Not sure how this works in the SFW version.

Another thing of note is what you'll be collecting as you go through the game. Aside from the new abilities and health upgrades that I already mentioned there are 16 girls and 19 crowns to find in the game. Rescuing the girls requires keys that are usually dropped from bosses, but some are hidden around the levels. How many girls you rescue decides which of the three endings you get. The crowns are used for unlocking extra features for subsequent playthroughs, there are extra costumes, cheats and an option to unlock all the h-scenes in the gallery (you usually unlock these when you rescue girls and when you're killed).

TL;DR

Overall shekels well spent. If you like classic Castlevania there's a lot to enjoy here. Gameplay is solid, the h-scenes are high quality given that it's pixel art, so you know real talent went into them.

Game good, get it.

I use to enjoy playing this game cause it had controller support, Until an update seemed to have blocked controllers from working and i'm not the only one that is complaining about this problem. I can't use any of my controllers that can work with steam like my Xbox 360/Xbox one, Nintedo Stwich,Sega Genesise six butten pad/ Saturn Japanesse pad. released by retro bit. I can't enjoy playing this game anymore.

Gameplay: 9/10
(The mechanics have aged heavily and nothing new is added to the formula, yet the game still manages to excel in the world of Castlevania-inspired games)
Graphics: 8/10
(The character sprites are detailed and vivid without getting too detailed and ruin the 8-bit art style, however the background artworks are inconsistent at times and are of "okay" quality only)
Lewdness: 8/10
(The text are well-written and erotic, the heroine gets progressively lewder and lewder with every next CG, which is nice. I'm not sure how anyone would "use" these HCGs tho, since they are very, very brief.)
Overall: 8.5/10
Totally recommend, even if you are bad at Castlevania, the normal mode is significantly easier than the main Castlevania games and easy mode is even friendlier.

Far more than just a porn game. It's actually well made, and it's clearly a love letter to old Castlevania games, specifically Castlevania 1, 2 and 3 on the NES. As a major Castlevania fan, I can't believe how many times I found a subtle reference to one of the other games and it made me pause and smile.

Since there is now a safe for work version, I think every fan of NES Castlevania games should play this.

This is actually a good video game. I can't help but wonder if this would have been a bigger hit if it wasn't a porn game, but I'm grateful to have something of this quality in the adult games category.

This is a Castlevania-style platformer with tight controls, great retro graphics, and a little bit of porn to spice things up. You play as a nameless lady adventurer who has come to a monster-infested world armed only with a whip and it is your mission to rescue kidnapped ladies and slay the succubus responsible for the world's sorry state of affairs.

My only real complaint about this game is lack of controller support (despite claims of controller support on the store page) and a bizarrely bad control remap menu. I needed to install JoyToKey to get any of my three controllers to work with the game, and had to look up a community guide with the default mapped keys to set up the game to be played with a controller. This was all very irritating but once I got through it the game was mostly smooth sailing until I found the first support character and could not figure out how to bring them in because the game doesn't explain it very well. In case you find yourself in the same position, you need to go into the game menu, then go into the Support menu option to select your companion characters(s).

The porn was okay, there's something to be said for the nostalgic value of the pixelated CGs and sprites that brought me back to the late 90s/early 00s days when hentai was mostly low resolution CGs from hard to find imported Japenese H games. The porn content is entirely hetero or solo female, and almost entirely involves non-consensual sex with zombies, monsters, or tentacles, which isn't my cup of jizz but might be yours.

At the end of the day it was worth the discounted sale price just to play the game, but I didn't get much wank value from it. Get this if you want to see a high quality, fun video game that happens to have porn in it but isn't really the point of the game.

🏰 I'm surprised! The best «Castlevania» based games are always spiritual successors and this is another example. The great, fun and exciting adventure. Pixel art is beautiful, mechanics / controls are smooth. Not without drawbacks (navigation in particular), but this is a good metroidvania with different locations, enemies and many bosses. There are no EXP or equipment (only whips, skills), but this doesn't make the game bad! Literally «Simon's Quest», which was released in our era, with a bunch of fixes and developing the original idea. More quality NSFW games!

It's absurd how great this game actually is.

It takes everything that was good about Castlevania 1-3, adds some metroidvania design and has just a hint of Zelda 2 in it.

The controls are unbelievably good, the world design is super creative and the enemies are mostly throwbacks from Castlevania with some original ones added in. The soundtrack doesn't break the bank but the tunes are definitely great.
Last but not least the string of boss-fights Midnight Castle has is just pure joy to battle against.

I just played Harmony of Dissonance prior to playing this and.. Midnight Castle Succubus DX takes the cake. It's that good.

So please do yourself a favor and pick this game up. Also if you are some sort of a moron who discards NSFW titles just cause, then no need to worry since you can play the game in SFW mode. The NSFW content of the game is honestly rather silly and humorous anyways.

Midnight Castle Succubus is actually a legit old school style Metroidvania.

tl;dr: Get this game if you like Metroidvanias and NES style games, the hentai part is optional.

At first the game looks like another trash hentai game, but when you start playing you realize the guy who made It really understand what made old school games fun to play.
This game is like a mixture of Castlevania II Simon's Quest, Zelda 2 e Hentai, and the result is actually really good.

Here is a short list of the good points of the game:
- Great pixel art and animations, even if you play the SFW mode
- Simple and satisfying gameplay based on classic NES era games
- Great metroidvania style map with multiple rooms to explore and get lost
- Cool boss battles

Now here are some of the downsides:
- The interface could be better, took me a while to understand how to use the extra party members
- Weird difficult changes, the game starts easy, and suddenly gets hard, and after this It gets a bit easier
- Finding some of the collectibles is a bit cryptic

Overall the game is really fun, even if you don't care for the horny stuff.

I'll start with the hentai part since I don't have much to say about it:

The only sex scenes are single illustrations of either your character being raped by ugly monstards every time you die or villagers being raped until you rescue them. I'm not really into that and I bought the game cause the mechanics looked interesting and I don't mind nudity/sex so I don't think I'm qualified to review it as a porn game. Still, the pixel art illustrations and particularly the boss animations are really good so I enjoyed it a lot visually.

Now talking about gameplay the game is surprisingly good. It's heavily inspired in Castlevania and even though the controls might feel dated and stiff at first, as you obtain new skills the character becomes more agile and it starts feeling really good to move around and when you think you have everything the game finds a way surprise you with an interesting twist which I don't wanna spoil.
I wouldn't say it's particularly hard compared to similar games or that it has a lot of focus on exploration. I never felt stuck, and even if I had to fight a boss more than once never felt it was a souls-like experience, but still the level and boss design was interesting enough to never make the game feel boring or repetitive.
There are also a few secrets here and there that completionists might enjoy.

It's not a huge time or money investment either so if you are in doubt just go ahead and give it a try

Great controls. Very reminiscent of Caastlevania 2: Simon's Quest, one of my favorite games, but without the really weird mechanics (like kneeling with an orb for no reason at a specific location). The NSFW aspect is easily ignored.

Great pixel art, unlockable upgrades, companions, different weapons. Heavy Castlevania influence but with none of the frustration. Not too heavy handed with the adult content so it feels like an actual game and the adult content stays fresh and rewarding. Engaging amount of difficulty. Navigation can be a bit of a pain with trying to find the next area or goal and frequent backtracking. If you want a good retro platforming experience with gorgeous characters that isn't afraid to show anything and everything then definitely give this one a go.

The game isn't that difficult because in Midnight Castle there's no punishment, you just respawn in the same room on death and with full HP
If there was more punishment it would feel a bit better. But I still enjoyed it a lot..
Some punishment feels good. 💘

this game is perfectly fine as a castlevania clone. The secrets are fun to find, the music is fine, the art is fine, and the controls are fine albeit a bit funky.

The game is just as derivative as you expect it to be. The enemies include zombies, skeletons that throw bones, fishmen that spit lasers, you know the drill. Even the jingle that plays when finding a new item is *probably* the metroid jingle but with one or two notes switched for something else. like I said, it is perfectly passable if you're bored of every single Castlevania game and want a new one. Just keep in mind that there is no consequence to dying whatsoever.

Why I don't recommend this game is for the sexual content. yes, there are hentai images in this game. yes, there are like three dialogue boxes which imply something sexual. yes, you can walk around in your three pixels of nudity so long as you have one hitpoint. these things are... true! What's also true is you're going to get the same exact sex cutscene every single time you die. you always go to the same room and always get raped by the same two assholes. 99% of the sexual content exists in the loading screens in the form of single still images, many of which are the still images displayed after a death sequence. In no way is the NSFW content not tacked-on. If you plan to play this game in the sfw setting, have fun! but if you're looking for a hentai game, you're going to get way more content and way higher quality content from anything else out there. The adult content in this game is really unimpressive.

People really like this game. while I, too, think it is pretty neat, I only think that because i happen to like metroidvanias and always wished I didn't have to be a boy in most of the games. This is kind of ruined by the zero-consequence-for-dying thing, which is why I am returning this game.
