cartoonish looking game with a cliched story, turn based combat, and dorky writing...and it plays nothing like a Might And Magic game. I think I got ripped off on this one. For fanatics only.

All in all, it's a good title for the time of your lunch-break; however, for deep thoughts, complex mechanics and original ideas look elsewhere.

Played this for less then an hour and that was enough for me.
The annoying flash type animation that are cute for the first time but after a few times they are just annoying.
but the biggest issue is the bug on this... every two or three battles the game just stops responding to the user input. The only option I found was to quit the game, restart it and that will do the job for about 2 or 3 battles. After that the same issue occurs. So yeah not recommended...

I consider the game to be an amazing chill strategy game. It has a great story line and the battles are pretty fun. Some of the puzzles scatter around are actually pretty hard but not impossible. Weather i'm playing multiplayer or story mode i can find myself smiling. Just today I was playing it and didn't even notice how much time has gone by, truly for me its a keeper :3 (but the rest is up for you to decide).

>Great little game.
>Most negative reviews come are cos IT FREEZES often and you have to restart.
>The FIX for this is to change compatibility to Windows 7 of the launcher .exe
>(right click -> properties -> compatibility OR run troubleshoot compatibility)
>I can now recommend it. Enjoy.

One of the most fun and unique puzzle/strategy games of all time. Would love to play a sequel or spiritual successor.

The strategy is both simple to learn, and satisfying to master. I like the art style and aesthetic of this game. The story is not going to be anything special, but the gameplay is addictive and fun to play for hours on end.

love the game, although there is no auto-save so remember to save through your playthrough during campaign mode since if the game stop responding you can loose a lot of hours of grinding and need to restart everything lol (for me it was happening when i was tabbing in and out during loading screen) but besides that, love the game!

I played this on 360 back when it was released and own it on my DS. Finally gave in and bought it on Steam. I've had it for 1 day and I'm 6 hours in. Love it.

It's a simple concept that's challenging enough to keep me playing yet not frustratingly difficult to the point where it isn't fun. If you want to try it then you can wait for a sale if they have one but also it's $10 and if you enjoy match 3 type games with a little chess vibe I think its worth it.

It's not too deep but it's a fun way to relax and feel stimulated at the same time.

Loved this game on my old PS3 and thought I'd try it over on Steam. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but it's unplayable and lags horribly. Wasted money.

Summary

A pretty good game with a lot of variety…if you are looking for a head-to-head/PvP that you can sink a lot of hours into (NOT an RPG). If that is you, I’d flip this to recommend. The campaign was short, uninteresting, barely introduces the armies, and the last Act was insultingly incomplete. I wasn’t looking for a game where the fun is when you take on other players with hundreds of hours of experience…but that is what I got.

Clash of Heroes is a fine puzzle/battle simulation centered around a Match 3 mechanic. Ignore any tags calling this an RPG. Yes, the game has “levels,” but those levels are nothing more than a stat check (your level 3 army will have a tough time against a level 4 baddie). The only 2 choices you can actually make is the units in your army and the magic item you wield…which makes this a strategy game, not an RPG.

The campaign takes you to 5 different parts of the world where you assemble an army to do battle with evil. Each zone has unique artwork and atmosphere, and each army plays differently. While the common troops didn’t feel very different (despite having unique abilities), there are some large differences in how defenses/walls, magic spells, and elite units interact with the game. Plus, you only get to field 2 of your 5 elite units, so there can be quite a bit of variety even within the same army type.

Gameplay is smooth and intuitive. The art and music are decent, especially considering this is a port from the handheld Nintendo DS.

My first problem is that it really is supposed to be a head-to-head/PvP game, and I didn’t sign up for that. The sole purpose of the campaign is to introduce you to each army. As soon as you get a decent feel for how an army works, the game shuffles you along to the next zone. Lingering around the zone doing random encounters to practice your strategies also isn’t much fun because you quickly out-level everything, and the zone boss becomes the only moderate challenge.

My second problem is the 5th zone was insultingly incomplete. You start zone 5 with no ceremony, you are already halfway to max level but your army is level 1, bad guys start at army level 3, and the plot is nothing more than “climb the tower and kill the boss.” I mean, I’m sure it saved time because they could just reuse the tower map over, and over…and over. The total number of Act 5 fights is so small you can’t really level your elite units or learn how they work. You are going to be so under-leveled that the final boss is going be very hard. If this was an attempt to make the game “hard,” it was a really unfun way to do it by giving you an unfamiliar army that is massively outclassed.

I wanted a game where I could play and master aspects of the game, and then take on some interesting challenges. Not one where you spend 20 hours getting through the introduction and then be put up against people with hundreds (or thousands) of hours of experience in order to do anything fun. That said, if you like the Match 3 thing, want a head-to-head game that doesn’t take much time, and are ready to commit, this is probably a pretty good game for that.

Yes, there are “quick battles” that let you build an army of your choice to take on a random computer opponent. Personally…not a fan. The quick battles themselves are fine, I just like to have a purpose and structure to my gameplay.

Played and beat this game on Nintendo DS over 10 years ago and loved it. Unfortunately the PC version is broken in more ways than one. The first is that there is a game breaking bug in the 4th chapter (Aiden) where both the player and enemy cannot progress and make another move, rendering the enter game and battle effectively frozen. The only solution is to restart completely, losing all progress. The second is that once you reach the 5th chapter (Nadia), there is a steady stream of battles and no ability to grind to lower units. I was dumped into the campaign at level 7, somehow got past the ridiculous 3 battle "intro" and then was completely and utterly destroyed by the several battles that followed. There is literally no way to progress further in the story campaign because you cannot grind lower level enemies. That's literally how grinding works. You fight lower level enemies to gain XP so you can level up. But somehow that doesn't work in chapter 5. They send level 7, level 8, and level 9 enemies at you that are massively overpowered. And to add insult to injury, when you do get a level 5 enemy to spawn, they are still MASSIVELY OVERPOWERED. All of their units are max level, which means you cannot match them in power. I have spent literally 4 hours trying to grind the same 2 screen area with the same enemy encounters and have not won a single battle. The developers literally broke this game when they ported it to PC. You cannot complete it. I have wasted about 60 hours on this game for nothing (40 online and 20 offline) and I feel cheated. Why can't developers just port the game properly instead of half-assing everything? Really disappointed.

Game has random mechanics that cause you to lose automatically. Doesnt allow any freedom in its linear game making it impossible to level to fight the ever strengthening enemy. thus the gap between you and your opponent gets further and further away. It had potential but they ruined it. Do not buy this trash.

There are some really poor lacking design choices in this game that really make it frustrating.
1. there is no undo button. Cant tell you how many times I accidently clicked the wrong space, and screwed up a battle.
2. there is no "retry," button. So when messing up a puzzle you have to go through the whole thing before trying again. which with how hard some of the puzzles get is real annoying.
3. some of the battles dont have a "flee," option so youll get stuck in a fight that drags and drags with the only way to get out is to just quit the game, and re-load a save. (which led to me lossing a huge amount of game time becuase i didnt have a newer save).
4. there's really no reason to use any of the other soldiers you are given as you progress. This is becuase leveling up the soldiers seems to be the best route, and to get them to the top level, you will have to use them from the start. Which means really no variety in game play.
5. most items are useless, and have no place.
I'd love to see a sequel fix this kind of stuff.

Kinda buggy: ever since I tried multiplayer I can't even select the troop. Even in story mode. I love this game though, I didn't get to finish the DS version so I got this...

Darches
Darches

Sideways thumb.

The game has only a few bugs but they're massive:

    • Game-logic-freezes make the game unplayable and force you to close it. Setting the executable file to compatibility mode for Windows 7 stops the freezes, but it's still unacceptable. In compatibility mode you can't use Enter or Alt+F4.
    • After beating the whole campaign and doing some multiplayer battles, the game when opened started stuttering so bad that it was unplayable. Strangely the splash logos also displayed multiple times while trying to start the game. Restarting my PC has fixed it for now, and I wonder if it was caused by the Windows Update I've been delaying.
    • Failing to sync with Steam Cloud causes you to lose potentially hours of progress. What's the point in having a save button if it doesn't work!? To be on the safe side, close the game from within rather than doing something like Alt+F4 to kill the process.
    • The audio and gameplay rarely stutter, and the "dramatic corner shadows" (for cutscenes?) bug out all the time. These are harmless but annoying.
    • I once watched the AI spend like 20 seconds figuring out that it had no more valid moves (shield puzzle battle to get into the Holy Griffin Empire tavern). This might not be a bug.

The game also suffers from basic design issues:

    • Animations and enemy turns take too long.
    • Several factions are colorblind unfriendly. HOW HARD IS IT TO MAKE A PUZZLE GAME WITH 3 DISTINCT COLORS? Even greyscale would have worked.
    • The artifact balance is still mediocre. Some artifacts are actually broken but beaten by hard counters. Absorb Circlet lets you blow up most other strategies for free wins. Cursed Shield cripples Absorb Circlet, all defensive play, and Aidan's entire character. Spider Cloak is nuts in general. Meanwhile there's a lot of artifacts that are just trash in comparison. There has been 0 effort in balancing the game, creating an artifact meta where matches can be won or lost before the game even begins. You can avoid this nonsense by disabling artifacts, but it makes the game a bit more bland.
    • Some parts of Nadia's story can become VERY hard if you were insufficiently leveled in the other heroes' stories, as you're made to use your old armies but without the ability to grind for more levels. Pro tip: Level up the Ghost unit.
    • You can see all the numbers in this game EXCEPT mana. Odd.
    • It would be nice to know how PWR calculation and certain effects work. For example, using Varkas' Holy Charge spell on Sword Masters at different times while charging resulted in +/- 1 PWR. Or how does the AoE from Succubus and Imp work? It seems to use an arbitrary fraction of the base PWR, resulting in less direct damage but more damage overall.
    • The Overkill achievement is needlessly locked behind a DLC paywall.

The DS and Xbox versions were nearly bug free. It's just sad to see great games thrown in the bin by companies who just want to make a quick buck. Overall the game is still unique, enjoyable, and addictive when it works. And it mostly does work fine. But it's hard to recommend with such crippling technical flaws, because maybe it WON'T work on your machine. If it DOES work, then I think it might be a good purchase on sale.

Was a super amazing fantastic game when played on console, unfortunately on PC the game will often soft freeze/bug out randomly during battles for no reason and the only way to fix it, is to exit the game and lose all progress you had. Makes you have to redo entire battles which is sad, since the game used to be perfect. (Windows 11) Theres been a long history now of Ubisoft not careing about maintaining any of there games after a year or two. Try to stay away from any new Ubisoft games that come out. The'll always look temping but their lifespan always ends after maybe two years.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. The controls are broken and they will randomly become unresponsive while playing. I played this a lot on Xbox 360 years ago, saw this on sale for 3.00. I asked for a refund after 3 hours because there is no point in trying to play a game where you have to close the game and restart it constantly, hoping the controls will be responsive again after you restart the game. This isn't a 'new bug' either. The devs just don't care. Don't support something this broken, even if you have nostalgia for it like I did.

THREE THINGS TO NOTE FOR THE STEAM VERSION, IT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE CONSOLE VERSION:

1. NO OFFLINE 2 V 2 MULTIPLAYER.
2. LOCAL MULTIPLAYER is 1 V 1 ONLY, AND REQUIRES YOU TO USE THE SAME CONTROLLER FOR BOTH PLAYERS.
3. ONLINE MULTIPLAYER REQUIRES 3RD PARTY TOOLS SINCE UBISOFT TOOK THE SEVERS OFFLINE.

It's a fun game, but if you want it for OFFLINE MULTIPLAYER like I did, you will be severely disappointed. I am leaving a positive review because the story mode is still fun, and I'm sure downloading the extra stuff to play online works well, but it's not something I will get much use out of unfortunately.

Loved this game when I was younger, PC port is Broken. everything is broken, AI wont finish it's turn, once you make a move the battle will freeze and prohibit you from continuing, leaving, or ending your turn. Super disappointed because I love this game.

If you like puzzles & turn based; give it a go.
It can be beat with any units but selecting optimal ones for events can make it trivial or a lot easier.
I beat all of Godricks with just spearmen.
It has a bit of a RPG "Build feel" as when you get to the end whoever you decided to level is what you have to beat the game with. Sort of a "choose wisely".

My friend and I played this game for literal hours yesterday on his PC and I really enjoyed it. So naturally, today I bought it and tried to play it.
Emphasis on tried, because the game barely runs for me. When I open the game, the Ubisoft logo animation as well as the second logo animation keeps repeating again and again in the worst framerate I've ever seen in a game.

I changed the resolution thinking that might fix it, uninstalled and reinstalled it, ran it through the Task-Manager and tried out what some reviews said, which was changing the compatibility to Windows 7, and also changed it to windowed instead of fullscreen, but nothing worked.

It's a shame, I was really excited for this game. My Computer is a good Computer, other games such as Tomb Raider run smoothly, so I really didn't expect any issues.
I've read a few other reviews now and seen this as well as many other bugs in those reviews (User Maggerama mentioned the same issue as me and my friend also had some issues with the game freezing when he was playing alone).

So I don't recommend this game. If the devs can't be bothered to fix an issue that has apparently existed for years, I don't think they deserve a buy for that. And I don't have big hopes that it will be fixed anytime soon. Additional note to myself to read the reviews before I buy a game, even if it worked on another Computer :/
