Wonderful Classic Game and in my opinion the best entry in the whole series.
Wonderful remastered with some bonus features like DEV comments, paintings from the original background scans incl. unused stuff, etc. 10/10.

Fantastic quality. Audio and visuals are awesome. Puzzles and gameplay was quite hard, I had to use a lot of hints but it's still super fun. Works good with xbox controller.

Monkey Island has always been a fun game series for me and playing (then eventually speed running) Monkey Island 2 was a fun time.

Classic Monkey Island.. the original was brilliant and this remaster is spot on!
Ive replayed this so many times.. its still one of the greatest point and click adventure games ever made.

Monkey Island 2 is possibly the exemplar of the classic point-and-click genre, for better and worse.

It's funny, smart and a great story. The remaster also adds the top-quality voice acting fans of the later MI games are used to.

It's also a 90's adventure game which means that, although people generally talk about the gameplay in terms of 'puzzles', what they really mean is 'riddles'. Unlike puzzles (that have well-defined answers), riddles have a million answers that would make sense but only one that is actually correct and finding which one this is usually involves more guesswork than logic. MI2 is absolutely built along these lines with many answers only making sense with hindsight.

If you think you can accept this then MI2 is one of if not the best - otherwise I'd save yourself the frustration and watch a walkthrough instead.

Very much recommend this game. It's got kind of strange gameplay, and the puzzles can be less than intuitive, but the humor more than makes up for it. I especially liked this installment's use of LucasArts' other projects as a source of its humor. 7/10.

It barely needed improving, but this remaster improves on the original and brings a classic adventure game into the modern era gracefully. There are still a few quirks that will feel outdated but this is still one of the all-time greats.

Easily one of the best point and click adventures ever made, and one that I return to even having played it so many times for the past 20 plus years. Whenever I wistfully dream that someone makes a new Monkey Island game, I'd like to hope that they make it at least as good as Monkey 1, and secretly wish they surpass Monkey 2. None have done so yet.

Masterpiece for its time.

I've played it too many times over the years where the puzzles are all too well known to me now so its not as fun as it used to be for me but it's still a masterpiece for its time even though i've always though the ending was really dumb.

I am quite sure I have never played Monkey Island 2, however, I do vaguely remember some parts of the game, probably from seeing it on a friend's computer.
That being said I didn't have nostalgia goggles on while playing this game.

Ok, so this game is absolutely fantastic!
The gameplay and UI are much improved from the first game. There are a couple of quality of life improvements such as highlighting interactable objects.
Graphics and the art style are complementing the tone of the game.
Music and sounds are crisps.
As I've said in my review of the first game, the voice acting is phenomenal and it's as if it was already there all along.
Puzzles in this one are really hard. And they are crazy illogical. But once you get the whole idea behind the tone of the game they kinda make sense. Few such instances are that you need a monkey wrench, but instead of a wrench, you need an actual monkey to finish the job. The other one is the dog you need to pick up, put him in your inventory, and use him as if he was yet another item. There are plenty more like these, and I must say I had to use the hint system couple of times.
The story and dialogues are amazing in this game! I really can't wait for the Return to Monkey Island to drop so we can finally see what's the deal with that controversial ending.

So, without further ado, I'm off to play The Curse of Monkey Island. :)
Cheers!

Was thrilled to get this game as I loved the series when I was little. unfortunately I got to 66pc completion and my mouse and inventory have glitched out of existence within the game. Upon reading others comments in the steam discussion thread it looks like a very common issue. Sort it out please or you need to be giving alot of people a refund.

The story still holds up, both classic and Special Edition visuals are beautiful, and the game is fun to play, despite tons of backtracking.

Timeless masterpiece. Just beware: around 75%, in a room where you're pretty much risking your life with a friend (you'll know which one), there's STILL a game-breaking bug that prevents you from moving forward. Make sure to save a bit before then, maybe right at the start of Part III, and continue your game on a separate save file.

Pretty embarrassing that this bug is still there in 2022, if I'm honest, but hey. I've had to rely on the save file of a random person on the Internet to solve it :')

I'd rather be a pirate on Scabb,
than a scab on a pirate,
And if you'll listen to me gab,
I'll tell you why I admire it.

Oh, the people aren't too friendly
And the weather's not the best,
The lodging's too expensive,
and Largo was quite a pest.

But the thing I like about Scabb
Is what it hasn't got.
No mayor or police force
And no jail in which to rot.

9.6/10.

I love this series so much, and this is clearly one of the best instances in it (Second only to curse of Monkey Island, in my humble opinion, though many feel otherwise). I didn't like the visual remastering, unfortunately, but it isn't so bad, and this game includes the original version too, so it isn't all that critical.

Pretty good game. Definitely not as good as the original though, and the LucasArts movie references(Indiana Jones, Star Wars) get a bit too many - especially since many are used in the main story, instead of mainly as optional stuff. But in the end, this is a good game, even if it's not the best in the series.

100% in ~8 hours.

Three headed monkeys, Holding your breath for 10 minutes, story's of how I beat LeChuck, Phleghm mastery.

Yes, a great game, then and now. Great puzzles, Amazing dialog, tons of eastereggs, genuinely funny in all aspects, great looking both in classic and remake mode, amazing music and a sweetspot for length. Bonus: The story is actually continues with the release of Return to Monkey Island. So 100% recommended.

really cool game, I liked the story and the comedy, those still hold up now, but the puzzles are very hit and miss. Some are intuitive and cool, but some are very 90s moon logic convoluted puzzles. I still really enjoy it though!

It wasn't bad but I did not like it as much as the first one. The writing was not nearly as funny and quite a few of the puzzles were very frustrating and not enjoyable (the spit contest ugh). The ending was also rather unsatisfying.
Still enjoyable but not the immediate favorite that I couldnt put down like the first one.

Illusionary

The original Secret of Monkey Island still remains a great game, but its sequel, LeChuck's Revenge, easily manages to match its quality, with a significantly larger, more detailed set of locations to explore, and humourous writing that's frequently also a step up from its predecessor. The integrated hint system is, however, arguably all the more necessary here, as while the puzzle solutions are pretty much always fun to see playing out - when you know what's needed - they frequently become very obscure, and the larger number of environments means that it can be harder to know where to go to progress. On the aesthetics, once again the special edition provides a nice lick of paint over the experience, and the interface also sees some notable usability improvements.

This is a really good remaster of Monkey Island 2 and with the recent release of Return to Monkey Island, that makes this and the Special Edition of Secret of Monkey Island worth playing.

The graphics have received quite a big overhaul and look really good while still maintaining the feel of the original. You can easily switch back and forth to the classic graphics with the press of a button to see the difference. The UI has also gotten an overhaul. The new UI feels a bit fiddly at first but isnt too bad once you get used to it.

The game is also now fully voiced with most of the voice actors who voiced characters in the later Monkey Island games providing the vocals. There are also some quality of life improvements like hints and highlighting of interactive items.

As a whole the remaster of the game is really well done and manages to modernise the game without losing the soul of what made it a beloved title in the first place.

The game itself is a more traditional point and click game featuring some pretty obtuse and challenging puzzles. While it may be a difficult game, I am fond of Monkey Islands bizarre style of humour and it makes it a fun experience.

If you're looking to experience the original Monkey Island games with a more modern feel, then this Special Edition is worth playing. I'd also recommend getting the Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition too.

This was my first time playing this game, overall I had a good experience with this remake.

Pros:
* Good remake of the original (good graphics, sound, improved object interaction)
* Ability to switch to classic mode is nice
* Controller support is mostly good

Cons:
* When playing with controller, the movement controls with joystick can be a bit finicky in some parts of the game

Great game. Special Edition adds a lot of improvements and the optional hint system make it a lot more accessible to newcomers to the series. This version is also a much better special edition than the 1st one with better interpretation of the art in the new graphics and the ability to use teh voiceovers in classic mode which SOMI SE lacked. That plus a few other nice features like the commentary and art gallery are really nice touches.

First played this when I found it on Steam. Was a fan of the first game and, so, had to play this one. Played it blind and, yes, to be honest did have to look for hints at LEAST twice on the net because there was at least two spots where I got kind of stuck. But still loved it and enjoyed most of the puzzles and interactions. Ending kind of confused me but, from what I understand, the third game was meant to explain it all. And then others took over the series and it really never got explained. Still good. And now I have downloaded 3, 4, and 5, I plan to replay 1 and 2 just to get back into the swing of things.

This is a very good game and a GREAT sequel.

It makes something original and interesting with the direction of the story. It makes something bold which still makes sense with Guybrush as a character. Elaine too (enjoy her now, cause she's not well written anymore until Tales). Even LeChuck's got some nuance, which is saying something.

The puzzle design is just insane. The second act is incredibly ambitious and i'd say it does hit the nail on the head. Also, the final puzzle is very clever (although a bit annoying to play). I think the puzzles are fair, and i don't like walkthroughs, but i'd still say don't be ashamed to use one from time to time if you need it, cause this game is HARD. I'd recommend www.uhs-hints.com, which is a system where you can look up progressive hints without completely spoiling the puzzles.

The ending's perfect. Those [SPOILRES] thinking they're [SPOILERS] and then when [SPOILERS] [SPOILERS] all over [SPOILERS] while they [SPOILERS] and they're all "[SPOILERS]" is just... *chef's kiss*

It's not as good as Monkey 1, but it's just as entertaining and bizarre. On the other hand, this remaster is slightly better. You can also play the original game with the voices. This seems to mess up sound effects, though. Why don't I have sound effects??

You also lose out on the iMuse system that was present in the original game. I wish they would have had a better "original mode" which retained that, and had sound effects with the music.

The remastered art is better this time than in Monkey 1 special, which was kind of bad. But the original art is so great, why would you want new art?

The puzzles don't seem to make as much sense this time, and there is an insane amount of island hopping. It's not too bad, though. I would say it remains fairly solid, and it sure is fun and creative, but around part 4, it kind of falls apart. Many games do that, though.

This was one of my favorites as a kid, and at that time, I regarded it as superior to Monkey 1. I despaired, thinking Monkey 3 would never happen. I didn't like Curse or Escape much. And now the real Monkey 3 has arrived! My childhood self would have thought it was bonkers that the sequel would take this long.

Great adventure and convenient gameplay, that only really requires mouse control. The hint system is very helpful: some puzzles are a bit unintuitive to solve. I really appreciated the classic/modern switch, it allows for a nice throwback, Entertaining story and characters as always!

Played this back to back with Secret of Monkey island and both were perfect!

This one had a few more puzzles that were incredibly impossible to intuit through so I did have to call in a few hints, but overall, fun and good pacing! I was a little sad not to actually return to Monkey Island (I kinda thought the twist would be that "Dinky Island" was coming from misspelled or faded text that would be Monkey Island lol but overall it was super fun.

I will say that the UI for this one versus the Special Edition of the first game actually got worse. I really liked SMI's UI where you could hit V to bring up all your possible verbs, and I liked that it would suggest a few default interactions for things. This one is more streamlined-looking but slower to actually use.

Spent two hours bumbling though part one then got stuck and consulted a guide the rest of the way through (some of the puzzles are seriously impossible) - however, was still a lot of fun

One of the best ever. So funny, so much character, so alive. The Special Edition has so much value: two styles to play in, commentary, and you get more of the Monkey Island shenanigans. This will shape your children too.

The followup to Monkey Island seems to be an almost direct improvement over the previous. The visuals are more diverse and a lot more pleasant, sound design is bumped up by quite a few notches, the game is a lot bigger with 3 main islands to explore instead of just one, the humour is a lot better, there's even more characters who are even more memorable, etc etc. Special Edition adds a remastered soundtrack and new, more modern visuals, using prerendered 3D for models and artwork for the backgrounds, just like the first game's special edition. I prefer the older graphics because of how nice it looked for the time and how great the pixel art is, much like the first game.

As good as the game is, I can't forgive it for having such downgraded puzzle design compared to the first, with there being a lot more illogical puzzles and there being a lot more items in your inventory. The game is a lot bigger than its predecessor, which sounds good on paper, but in practice makes a lot of the puzzles a complete ball-ache to figure out and requires you to backtrack around the 3 islands a lot to see if there's any item you've missed. For instance, you have to go to the library on Phatt island several times to get books to complete puzzles, like getting one to find treasure from a shipwreck. There are SO many books there and in a LOT of different categories, and you have to find one specific book, and unless you somehow get lucky and guess the category's first letter correctly, you're gonna be there looking at book names for an unjustifiably long time. And considering that this is where the information on the shipwreck MIGHT be, you don't know for sure that it's there, but it just MIGHT be there, it makes for an incredibly frustrating and time-consuming puzzle if you don't use hints. In the first game, if you don't use the hints system, you could be on there for a while, but the puzzles are well-designed and logical enough, and there's only so many places you can go to, that it makes for a really short, but sweet experience, but this game is the exact opposite. You will spend countless amounts of hours on the many stupid, long-winded puzzles this game has, looking for just one specific thing to do, and it sucks so much. Unless you're willing for this game to drag on for weeks and weeks, if not months, USE HINTS. It felt like the first game was leaps and bounds over other point-and-clicks of its time with its far less frustrating gameplay, like its lack of deaths for example bar one, but this one seemed to take many steps backwards in that regard. The game is otherwise brilliant, though.

Pick this up when you can, but like I said, a liberal use of hints is highly recommended.

Amazing sequel to an amazing game with extra bonus!

This Special Edition is much better than the first game's. You can still play with the original classic graphics but this time have the dialog voiced! You also get some nice extra content such as developer commentaries and some artwork gallery.

The game itself is much bigger and more complicate than the first one. Its puzzles and potential combination of items will make you scratch your head most of the time. In the end, it's an amazing game with a fun and entertaining story. Some people say it's one of the hardest LucasArts game and I would agree.

Speaking about the story, it has its up and down but it's a great chapter in the whole Monkey Island series. I would advise to play the first game in order to understand some background info about some characters though. Those are all great again in this game and the lines they deliver or Guybrush says are just pure gold as always. It has that zany & wacky feeling that makes it so great and funny even if some people might say that this game is a bit darker than the rest of the Monkey Island games.

Graphics are much better (in both the classic and special edition) than the first game and I think it aged better. The animations are well done and the pixel look makes it more nostalgic than obsolete. All the background graphics are superb and you can see that there was a huge leap in graphic technology in just one year which separated both first game.

Music is always good and being able to play with voice over is also a nice touch, even while using the old classic version.

This game comes in a very nice package and recommend it absolutely if you liked the first game. Being able to play it with Ron/Dave/Tim talking about it is also a nice touch!

Max Vultur

One of the best, if not the best, games in its genre.
This Special Edition is well made enough, some questionable artistic choices (like sometimes it portraits items differently from how they are in your inventory when used... or the "moonset" in Scabb's beach) but overall well done, certainly much better than last SE's. The voices are top notch though, all your classic voice actors from the other games are here and they do a great job. And if the new art style isn't your cup of tea, you can change to the classic version... dubbed! The voices are in english only, but it's a good way to see how faithful your localization was. All topped with some nice new renditions of the old music. The only unforgivable thing is how the SE version misses the great original intro.

All in all, worth buying it. Might be the second best special edition I've ever played!
