Collect body parts, manage resources and release your re-constituted minions upon a great big open space. A neat approach to real-time strategy requiring offensive and defensive play, though unit "types" are more often just better units. Not very long but does offer challenge and some re-playability.

I found joy in putting together random body parts to see how they work. There are some hidden recipes, hopefully the developers will add even more.
Overall the game is easy, addictive and repetitive. I finished the game 100% after about 15 hours so it's not a long game, but I had a lot of fun with it nonetheless.
There are rare items scattered around the world that facilitate further efforts.
I really hope the game will be developed further as it has great potential.

just done the game, this is a good game for killing time, and not really that hard to achieve 100% of all the available achievement

It is insanely fun to put things together limb by limb so you can tear other things apart..... limb by limb. A lot of limbs... a lot of fun.... everything about this game is perfect.

Took me almost 25 hours to 100% complete, might be a little slow compared to others who optimise. This is a great value-for-money game, I can't recommend it more if you're into roguelite tower defence sort of games for the price it is. The art style is very cute, there's a lot of creature parts to unlock and it's a pleasure to find the strategy that works best for you rather than a cut-and-paste method from guides.

There might be a few things the devs could look at adding/changing- such as creature targeting and commands- at present they are quite rudimentary, but controlling one little guy is enough to be able to win the game given a bit of luck and forethought. Updates seem to be fairly consistent so it will be interesting to see what they add in the future.

A simple soothing game, until the last couple hours, then it gets tough. It's relaxing, caz. I forgot about "stand still" until that last part XD. I enjoyed the mix and match. I wish the game was longer, had other goals, had a few more chapters, and had more VARIED leg parts XD. Good job though, fun little game.

What a fun little game.

Let me explain,

It gots a lot of replayability as a towerr defense, but the fact that you can control your unit, it makes everything really enjoyable.

At first, you only have these skeletons to protect yourself, so i tried many time to survive with the stupidly low amount of DPS.

But by exploring further and further, you find some really neat parts that help you to one-man-army all.
There is some balance of exploration and defense to keep in mind, so always have 1-2 units to help you out around the map.

Can't wait to 100% it. I had fun for the little amount of money they asked for the game.
Another game to add to my list as ''fun'' and ''worth'' it.

P.S. Patrol option pleaaaaase.

It's pretty neat but it gets old fast. I wish the units were smarter and there was any more depth to the crafting than summing the stats of all the different parts.

It's going to be hard to find a better value for your buck. Everyone is right in that this game really needs a Guard mode or Patrol mode instead of just Stand Still. would be cool to be able to select multiple units at once as well and command them to a point or to be able to group undead into teams that will travel together. I'd also like the unit cap raised. You will get many hours of enjoyment for a couple bucks, you can't beat it.

ArKaiN
ArKaiN

It's good. The concept is good, the art is good, but.
One, there needs to be a way to set patrols or something. A lot of times you look one screen away from your base for a second and come back to it being completely gangbanged by monsters and any undead you make get insta mobbed and killed.

Two, the upgrade system is way too mobile game-y. There's like three levels of each thing and done. I really wish there were more substantial upgrades that actually changed the game instead of giving me a flat cooldown buff or something.

Opossum Boy
Opossum Boy

Character controls are hilariously bad. Until you get into the late game, most of the undead are painfully slow and you essentially have to control them manually to progress because the AI is not intelligent enough to seek out important items.

See it is a nice little game and its dirty cheap already.
In my book the Dev`s deserve the little they ask for.

Its fun and i had a great time with it so far, I have more than 2000 games at my disposal, and still found it worth while to spend some time with Necrosmith and so can you.

The game is nice and good times.

You get alot for the 2-3 bucks, I'd say at least 10 hours for playthrough, most probably a bit less.
I also believe the game is finished, so do not necessarily expect giant leaps in content coming up. But I would highly like some more of course.

Thumbs up, go get it.

Eldoran

Clunky, but quite enjoyable. There's a lot that could be improved, but right now it's an opportunity to experience something fairly unique. It would be nice to see someone polish up the concept and build it further. Has a bit of the old school Majesty vibe.

jasta85

Fun little game, it revolves mostly about gathering and combining different body parts into various minions. There are quite a lot of body parts although the stronger ones are collected as you get further into the game, and you can make some pretty rediculous combinations. There are also "set bonuses" for combining certain body parts together. There are some other features such as research, relics you can discover and spells, but it mostly comes down to assembling minions and using them to defend against waves of enemies. Good fun, especially for the low price.

SoS.Matthias12a
SoS.Matthias12a

Good game, the concept itself was a real cool combination of Vampire Slayer + Tower Defense. I really wish they had done more to develop the concept as it is very unique with quite a bit more obvious depth.

I'd be first in line for a DLC, just do more of what you already did. Some curveballs would be nice but overall, more enemies and more pewpew.

SUGGESTIONS
- Spread stats more evenly throughout the body parts, the body itself often feels like an afterthought until lategame.

- Display optimal range, having minions kite is great but a weak bodypart ruining a build with high engagement range feels like being cheated. I was afraid to experiment with rare body parts when I would first find them because it was a super cool event and I didn't want to bomb it by using a bad combo due to not knowing what the weapon would do exactly.

- Provide a way to easily verify from the 6-slot body screen whether a combination has been attempted before. One of the joys of the game is finding the different combinations but they are very obscure in some cases and expecting a player to remember everything they have chucked together is wild. Even following a detailed list of the combinations from the guide section it was still tricky to get them at any decent pace until the run I won where I basically had all the time in the world. Not knowing what was already attempted was a detraction from what is otherwise one of the best parts of the game.

- Scale the Body Manufacturing upgrade more. Going from Skeleton to Zombie was dope, going to Lizard was just too big of a jump and from Lizard to Golem was wild. Would be fun to have more gradual upgrades and build through more of the early trees like Orc for instance. Would also be nice to not lose access to the early bodyparts like Zombie and Skeleton, I understand they are resources but they are worth hardly anything and burning Golem or Lizard parts when you have them feels like a mana-pay day anyways. I want to experiment more with those combinations but there are never enough parts when it matters, only late game when they are just memes.

It's fun. A little rough around some edges but it's cheap, and designed by a small team, and the core gameplay loop is entertaining. I've paid a lot more for a lot less fun. Developer's been good about maintaining the game and patching things, too, and good on them.

Bee

Very fun, cheap little semi- tower defense game. In which you defend a tower. Not with other towers, but various wacky undead.

Pretty addictive, and runs are short, so it would be great to play for a lunch break I imagine.

lost_arts
lost_arts

It's a great little game, however it needs balancing. After you upgrade your spells the chances of getting rushed and having your tower destroyed early significantly increases.

There's still a lot of fun in creating random monstrosities and letting them run amok. There's a good amount of variety in the monster parts provided as well. From skeletons to zombies, elementals, golems, and much more. I won't spoil it for you, since getting rare parts and seeing their powers is most of the fun.

For the price, definitely recommend. I hope the team updates this and make it more enjoyable (difficulty modes would go along way for us casual necrosmiths!)

They've created something really cool, hope they can give it some legs.

The fact that video games designed with so-called "rogue-like" mechanics allows for a gameplay-to-development time ratio much higher than standard games might be why indie developers are applying this formula to damn near everything. Players go into these games knowing they will literally be running the same content multiple times, but with different symbols and values. On the other hand, the developer only has to create said content once.

(omg, I just did the dreaded "said [x]" cliche that reviewers who suck at English love to do.)

I don't know how many times I went into Necrosmith's play mode, but I played until I died, took my persistent currency (in this case, gold) to purchase permanent improvements (in this case, abilities and capabilities) that allowed me to live longer and progress further. I did this repeatedly until I completed the scenario. I played a few extra hours beyond that to collect all of the achievements.

Early on, I had to accept that this game was not a real-time strategy game and it was impossible to have all my units acting optimally. You will have to accept this too. Though the game does allow direct control of units, you are actually directly controlling them with WASD and have to personally make all moves - no click to move like Command and Conquer or StarCraft. Only one unit can be controlled at a time - no group selection like Age of Empires or Supreme Commander.

This very limited control of units makes Necrosmith mostly play out like a auto-battler game. The zombies, orcs, skeletons, orc skeletons and other more exotic creatures I flesh-crafted did their own thing. I also did my own thing and listened to many podcasts over those 15 hours.

Fun game that's probably worth more than the just $2.50 I paid for it, but not a gaming experience that's going to be inducted into the roguelikelikelikes Hall of Fame.

Nice spin of of vampire survivors!

It could get more ideas from Majesty game to control units, like setting flags.

Also I dont like that at some point, the progression is too fast, and all interesting body parts are just burned for mana.

Overall, great dopamine rush for a low price!

Over 10 hours of gameplay for a couple of quid. Can't go wrong with that! My only negative comment would be it's hard to feel in control and like you can do much other than circle & defend your tower when controlling a unit (because they always run off and leave it undefended). It'd be awesome if you could unlock defense/patrol abilities so that you're free to explore the map.

Lovely little game, it's as simple as it gets, but it builds complexity using it's simple systems. Very fun, quite hard, it forces you to replay alot to advance, so its basically impossible to "win" in your first run, but if you can do it, hell yeah that's awesome!

Hey everyone!

Here is my review of this product:

NOTE: Everything that is included in this post is my subjective opinion. This does not in any way mean that you may not like the game or that you should not play it, it's all up to you. My aim is only to bring you the most objective opinion of this product on my part.

Description:

Hey everyone! We got a new game in 'Vampire Survivors' topic and type. In this game we have to build our minions army to escape from the world where our hero is stuck. You will discover new lands around your castle. Search for new benefits and new 'parts' of your minions. After every lose you'll have opportunity to upgrade your castle to have better new game start and to be closer to your final destination. There's not much to talk about this game but I think you should try it for that low price and really original idea.

Advantages:

+ Price.
+ Price to content ratio.
+ Length.
+ Graphic fits great to the game topic.
+ The developer's attitude to the development of the project.
+ Original idea. (Yes it is a bit like 'Vampire Survivors', but a bit).

Disadvantages:

- Late game content.
- Fatigue with a longer session.
- Some mechanics make the fun difficult.

Happy smithing and discovering!

Overall rating: 7/10.

Wait...WHAT?
Wait...WHAT?

Necrosmith feels like the winner of a week-long hackathon. The main idea and setting are cool but is held back by the okayish execution. It doesn't really have a lot to offer and the main gameplay loop becomes stale very quickly.

As most other reviewers state, this could be a really great game with a few rather simple QOL features: the AI is extremely dumb - which is even stated in the game description as if that is a feature - but it leads to the need of constant micromanagement. There really, really, really needs to be a "defend" command to make this enjoyable.

The free time gained by not forcing the player to constantly micro-manage or pause the game, could be used to emphasize the spell casting aspect more or even introduce some sort of base building element. Maybe like towers or buildings that increase the number of daily body parts etc. Ressource collection is already implemented, so this would feel like a good next step.

The rogue lite aspect of it is quite enjoyable to me and works well.

For the price tag, this cute little game is great value for sure. However, ultimately, this is more like a demo or a portfolio project for a dev trying to get into the industry.

At the start the game might be a tad difficult and sometimes frustrating but as you progress and get better parts for your undead this game will become more enjoyable.
It would be great if the game got more content in the future as I love the idea of this game but it has no replay value.

Omnibro

You are the Ultra Dr Frankenstein creating your monsters with random body parts found outside your lair. The game is good, it could be great. The generation of the beasts are what make the game relentlessly fun and rewarding.

The visuals of the trailer depict epic combat of huge beasts slinging fire and trees, unfortunately you may need to pump at least 10 hours into it in order to gain the benefits of the creature variety. I'm six hours in and this game is just producing bare minimum giant skeletons and zombies for me; I fear it will be another six hours until I'm able to upgrade my lair to generate the tree swinging and fire breathing beasties that look so great in the trailer.

It's extremely affordable and very fun, I would hope that the developers take feedback and implement better defensive commands or highlighting multiple allies to control as it can be a little tedious to control single units at a time.

What a Steal!

For this price, whoever you are and whatever you like, just go ahead and buy this. It's just not possible to regret it. I'd be happy with it even if I had paid 3 or 4 times more.

Necrosmith in a nutshell:
You have a Tower that stands in the center of the map. From it, or any portal you have found, you will spawn undead and monstrous creatures who will automatically seek out the nearest resources, enemies, mines, etc.

The coolest thing about the game is that you get to manually craft each of your summoned creatures, combining any 2 legs, 2 arms, torso and head you want. You can create something like a robot with wings who spits fire and slashes enemies with his feet-claws. Or a cyclope that casts spells, runs on mantis' legs and has a gigantic skeletal torso. Or anything else you may fancy.

Each body part has its own attributes and most also some attack.

When you create certain specific combinations of parts, you'll reveal a "Secret Recipe," and that creature (including future ones you create using that recipe) will gain bonuses to attack, speed, health, regen and/or attack-cooldown reduction.

As your minions move farther from your Tower, they'll find new parts. You also get random ones as a new day starts, some capturable structures increase the amount of parts you get every day, some Tower upgrades give you +X parts of a certain type, and there's also a structure you can upgrade in between runs that gives you more parts.

Destroying enemy spawn-points rewards you with a Tower blueprint, which you can use to upgrade your creatures, repair the Tower or generate more monster parts.

After being defeated, you'll return to the Necromancer's quarters and be able to unlock/upgrade new spells and a few more things. You can also find some items that give you permanent bonuses while playing.

Finally, your ultimate goal is to survive long enough to find Golden Blueprints and build a structure that, when complete and secured, will win you the game.

That's it -- it's a fairly simple and small game, but it's really fun. A great idea, well executed.

Oh, BTW, looking at the screenshots I assumed the game took place in different, round planets or something of the sort. That's not the case. That round "viewport" is just a design choice -- it's just how you see the map. You just move it around over a large map, as usual.

To Address some General Complaints:
Defending your base can be a hassle, indeed, as many other reviewers have stated.

Since your creatures wander around automatically, they will immediately start moving away from your Tower, which is then left undefended as it keeps being attacked from all sides, constantly.

BUT you can manually control one creature at a time, and also order any number of them to Stand Still wherever you want.

So, it is possible to leave a few creatures standing by your tower, defending it. The problem is that, when they do not move, they don't step away from enemies, get hit and tend to die very quickly.

You can design creatures in a way that will make them good "standing turrets," though. They will stay alive and keep enemies from destroying your Tower. It is perfectly doable.

Though a Patrol or Defend command might have been nice, they are not necessary. And, after a certain point, any creature you release from your Tower will stick close to it anyway, because monsters simply won't stop coming. So, that kind of ends up being the same as Patrolling or Defending -- and it's not as efficient as Standing Still.

One Complaint of My Own:
Once your minions start roaming far enough from your Tower, you'll start getting parts of new creatures very fast. You have skeletons, zombies, maybe harpies and vampires and then, within some 10 minutes, you'll start having parts from some 10 new creatures available.

That makes the game burn faster than it should. You just skip over many parts, going straight from very weak to very strong ones, never using the stuff in between.

That's wasted potential, due to unbalancing. If you had reason/need to use most of the creature parts you find, you'd have to be more creative, the game would be harder and last considerably longer.

It's not a big deal but, again: with some balancing, and without adding any more content, the game could be made to last 50-100% longer. And, since it's a good one, you don't want it to end sooner than it could.

Anything to extend play-time or encourage replayability would be great here, since the game's core mechanics are really cool.

Oh, some of the "in between run" upgrades are also extremely strong, and that makes future runs, after a number of defeats, way too easy.

TL;DR:
Although short (it will take you 10 hours or so to beat it), Necrosmith is a brilliant game, being given away practically for free.

Designing your creatures is really cool, and there's quite a lot of different parts to choose from. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying playing around with this mechanic. I loved it.

For, I assume, US$3, this is a no-brainer. I'd be OK if I had paid $10 for this game, but I do appreciate that the developers weren't greedy like many others out there (Japanese ones, in particular, come to mind).

Just buy this thing. It costs like 10% of a movie ticket and will keep you well entertained for 5-10 times as long.

A great start, but drops the ball in so many areas of balance it turns from a great hook into a slog of a grind by end-game.
Initially, everything feels fairly balanced - send out droves of half-baked skeletons and chuckle to yourself as they throw themselves into the fray pushing through enemy bases and giving you juicy unlocks to make your upcoming zombies even stronger.

Wash, rinse, repeat as you push up in quality of parts until the enemy eventually overwhelms you. Slap together an upgrade or two and fire it up again. Progress comes quickly at first, but when the upgrades between matches push into the 4 and 5 digit gold amounts, that dopamine drip of growth outright crashes.

The problem I have with the game is the end-game experience. Those earlier skeletons you gleefully send to their demise? It fits. It feels right. However, when you're making end-game units that do massive ranged DPS that "fight" by sprinting back and forth over other enemies only to burn a hole in your mana and parts reserves, it's frustrating. If there were a way to control more than a single unit at a time, this might be avoidable with an 'RTS-Lite' experience, but that's not the case here (yet).

Lastly, and I don't know if this is an issue with tweaking code or the RNG was tested to be this bad, but I can't beat the game. The core theme is to rebuild your device for 'the return' - but if I play "normally" I don't push out far enough into the world to *maybe* get another part for it.

I'm at the point now, where if I want to make any kind of progress, I have to use an auto-clicker to summon the cat when it's off cool-down and abuse the fact that enemies don't spawn until my units get close to their bases - stockpiling generated parts from my upgrades and randomly acquired crypts from the cat. Then, after hitting some soft 'critical-mass' I spawn the max number of end-game units I can and pray that RNG drops me another piece of 'The Return' that I can make more story progress.

I can't tell if this game was supposed to be an active game or an idle game, but fails to do either well in any capacity. What was an alluring change of pace compared to a lot of things out there has quickly turned into a chore that I almost regret getting myself sucked into.

I don't know what else I can do to 'beat' the game, when it's completion literally relies on RNG and cheese just to gain an inch of progress.

Also, flat upgrades suck. So much for the "improved blueprints" upgrade when I'm still getting +1 armor and +2 speed. For a game like this, all the upgrades really should be percentages, so even the 'bad' ones are still useful for late-game and late-game units. It's frustrating to dump some 15k gold into getting better blueprints only to unlock a whole lot of useless ones, even when I have all the base upgrades completed.

With a massive balance pass on most every single blueprint drop, adjustments so 'ranged only' critters stop killing themselves, better direct control, and a way to automatically burn parts of lower-tiers, less RNG and more clarity on how to continue the story, this game could really be something magical.

As it stands the game falls off into a weird and boring idle-game territory where I'm pretty sure I'm gonna blow out my mouse with how many hundreds of parts I melt down just to stay mana-flush for creations that matter with an ending that feels out of reach.

Quite fun game for what it is. As others have pointed out, the AI issue is pretty apparent, but can be worked around as a player, by only spawning one creature and playing as that if you want to explore more of the game.
So far i'm looking forward to what will be coming next in the game, and what creatures they plan on adding.
I'd love to see a different planet or something like that, future on. The creator/developer also seem active, and are actively pursuing how to fix the AI issue.

Well worth the asking price this game is fun with a reasonable learning curve. While there are a few issues here and there the dev team is highly active in supporting the game based on community feedback and I wouldn't expect any balance or QoL issues to persist in the future.

It's like an unholy combination of Impossible Creatures and Vampire Survivor.

You will be frustrated if you try to play it like a regular RTS, but once you get used to the mostly automatic combat it's pretty good. You are a necromancer / mad scientist, not a general, so it's better to focus on creating more units, matching parts for better combos, upgrading your base, occasionally sending your cat our for stuff, and only sometimes worrying about the hordes of angry creatures trying to destroy your base.

Metal bars and temporary upgrades (think weapons and item in VS) are reset each run, but you have infinite lives and keep whatever gold you don't spend on permanent upgrades, so you don't need to worry about "defeat". Each "loss" is also progress.

It's a good game for round or two every now and then. The devs are actively working on it, and for its pricetag, it's a lot of fun. If you are into watching your undead run around and try to make you rich or find pieces for the "main story thingie".

In a way, this game makes you feel like an executive in any of the large companies. You takes pieces of beloved characters, haplessly stick them together, and hope they work. And if you fail, you get to try again.

Demonocolips

as with most people i do enjoy the game however with the current ai that the player creations have it just isnt fun. you have basically no control over the group as a whole and in order to play for extended periods of time whenever you build a good ranged creation you take control of it and park it right on top of your castle. then wait.
you wait for the next day to create a horde of monsters see them run at the enemy and then evaporate because the enemy have more health and do more damage than your creations do. there is also a hard limit on how many creations you have of 15. you might face hundreds of enemies depending on how many enemy strongholds your creations have exposed on the map and your controlled creation might be able to deal with them or not.
right now AI needs to be looked at. ranged units have to understand they should not try to touch the enemy. even melee units do need to touch the enemy as most have an extended weapon arc outside of their hitbox. the enemy only do damage on touch which would probably need to be fixed as ranged units and melee units not needing to touch in order to kill them would be unbalanced.
being able to place rally or attack points that creations would swarm too would be an easy enough fix as them concentrating on a single stronghold would be preferable to them worming their way behind enemy lines then activating many layers of strongholds which would overwhelm any ability to defend your tower.
it is an interesting take on the idea but needs to be developed a bit more.
