Wonderful little adventure!
Brilliant voice-acting, lovely characters, and all the puns we've come to love and expect of our
most beloved ... girl pirate ? Pirate woman? Piratess? Nevermind.
Charmful, quirky, and filled to the brim with pop-culture-references - Nelly Cootalot 2 gets a clear AARRRRRHHHH out of ten.

Puns ahoy, a shanty or two, and some developer commentary to round it all out. A lovely indie pirate point-and-click with excellent voice acting. Stop monkeying around and play The Fowl Fleet.

6 hour play time with some glances at a walk through that happened to be laying open on the table next to me as a complete coincidence.

Nice little puzzler with a lot of humor, well drawn graphics and, of course, puns. Just how I like them. The game is completely synchronised. It took me about 6 hours to complete the game. And I'd say it was definitely worth it!

It's a very nice little game that probably most point-and-click adventure game lovers will enjoy to some extent unless they actually expect a Monkey Island-like experience (I did at first).

Nelly's adventure is like Guybrush's but lacking any design depth: the puzzles are extremely easy, the dialogues are cute, but never really laugh-out-loud funny and the plot is not captivating at all. The second time I launched the game (the next day after the first time), I actually forgot, what the hell is happening and how the adventure started. Needless to say, there is no curious-what-happens-next-story-wise factor which all Monkey Island games had (yes, even the fourth one). End the ending is simply ridiculous. Also, the Monkey Island games were so greatly designed - they allowed you to do a lot of things in almost any order. Nelly Cootalot has some of that but in a very simplified form. Oh, and the mini-games... Monkey Island had its Insult Sword Fighting - I still consider that one of the best mini-games ever - Nelly has the Great Game of the Sea - it's so bad and boring, the game would have been actually better without it. But seriously, I am writing this comparison only to make it clear - except for the overall theme (pirates), the games are pretty much nothing alike.

Overall, I would have enjoyed the game much more, if it wasn't for one fact (and no, it's not the fact that I expected this to be more like a Monkey Island treatment and it wasn't). The game has a broken interface. Basically, after the end of any action (dialogue, entering a location), the overlay doesn't work for a second or two - meaning, you can't see item names when hovering the mouse cursor over them. I do still consider this to be a bug - it can't be a design choice. I like hovering my mouse around to search for objects to examine and in this game, I had to stop and wait after each action to do that. I recently re-played the superb Day of the Tentacle for the 100th time. There you can see items labels even during the monologue (when examing the world) and you get the overlay working immediately after each and any dialogue... I would definitely give The Fowl Fleet a positive rating if this interface issue was fixed.

Oh, and the price. The game is extremely short (don't judge it by my time played - I tend to leave my games running when I step away from my PC), so it's way too expensive - 19.99 EUR as of June 1, 2018 (the game was released on
March 22, 2016, so it's anything but new at this point). You can get Red Comrades Save the Galaxy: Reloaded which is a way better (in every respect) and lengthier point-and-click adventure which now costs 3.99 EUR (and it's not a sale price either). You can actually buy the whole Red Comrades Trilogy for 11.17 EUR. But only the first game in the trilogy shines (at least for me). Oh, and if you crave for a brand new game in the genre, there is a freshly released Detective Galo point-and-click adventure. Not only it's cheaper (12,74 EUR is an introductory price, 14,99 EUR full price), it's also much funnier and has better music, better voice-overs, more objects to interact with and is extremely funny and fun all around.

A light and comical adventure. I had a great time with this one. I haven't played the first one in the series, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of this one. Top notch voice acting. As well, sometimes the humour can feel a little bit over-the-top in these games, but I didn't feel that here at all. Fairly decent and logical use of inventory, and it was great storytelling.

What a pun-filled high seas romp. Ok, it took place mostly on land, but it was still a fun little pirate adventure. Plenty of humor, but not forced like say, The Monkey Island games, although Nelly Cootalot does have some similarities. This was just a fun little game with lots of entertainment value. Love the story and characters, the puzzles were done just right, and I chuckled too many times to count. And it's got TOM–freakin'–BAKER in it... what more do you need, really?! Woohoo, and yaaaarrrrr!!

This is a short, relatively easy, delightfully charming point-and-click adventure. Join Guybrush Threepwood...er...Girlbrush Cootalot as she assembles a crew then lies, puns, tricks people into giving up their prized posessions, and does all the other piratey things one expects of a pirate, without ever having to shove a pulley into a rubber chicken. I thoroughly enjoyed this game, and recommend it to fans of fun point-and-clicks, and anybody who gets the pully-in-the-chicken reference.

I loved this game.

Fantastic voice acting, genuinely very funny, and entertaining.

The length of the game is also good (I think I left the game open for up to an hour, though). It doesn't feel too short, which is fab for a game like this - a few seem to stop just as they're getting started these days.

The humour and at times the social message (don't be mean to birds!) really kept me playing.

It wasn't especially hard (I didn't need a walkthough), but the puzzles and story kept me entertained regardless. There are a couple of little mini-games which work well without being excessive.

I missed the Kickstarter for this, but I'd definitely back a sequel.

Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet is a point-and-click adventure game with a plot and feel similar to The Secret of Monkey Island. Nelly is on a quest to stop Captain Widebeard from stealing birds and using them to aid him in his quest for the Treasure of the Seventh Sea.

This is a game the whole family can enjoy. Everything about it is light-hearted, with lots of British humour infused into the dialogue. Usually point-and-click adventures have a dark element somewhere, somehow ending up with at least one section taking place in a crypt or catacombs no matter what the plot implies. Even 15 Days had a section taking place in a catacombs! Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet isn't like this, though. For me this was a refreshing change because like anyone would, I do get fed up of the same cliches in adventure games. The other thing about this game is that the puzzles are not too ridiculous. This is one of the few point-and-click adventure games I've completed without ever once resorting to a walkthrough.

Gameplay is simple and you can reveal all the "hotspots" in a given area if you wish, which saves from all that horrible pixel-hunting many games in the genre have.

Some of the characters are very stereotypical but it all adds to the charm. And there are lots of interesting characters to be found here. I made a comparison earlier with The Secret of Monkey Island, I want to make a point about the difference between Nelly and Guybrush. Unlike Guybrush in the Monkey Island game, Nelly is 100 per cent sure of what she wants to do and why. She's nowhere near as naive.

The story pans out in an interesting way and you're never really sure what situation the game is going to present you with next.

The acting is great, with Tom Baker a very welcome inclusion in the voice cast list. And generally the game doesn't take itself too seriously. There is a slight Monty Python vibe about it and it even references Monty Python and the Holy Grail at one moment.

Making a game that is essentially a comedy for the whole family was never going to be easy. But the makers of this game have done a good job. If a sequel to this game comes out then I'm very likely to play it.

Great little game: won't take you a very long time to complete, but the visual style and the comedy were both very agreeable and the puzzles won't have you screaming in frustration. Perhaps a little pricey for what you get, so wait unti it's on a 50% sale.

Classic.
Great art, good humour, impeccable voicing, ye good old interface... and quality puzzles with no random trials, no absurd combinations.
The trailer is great, which is a rarity, and the game is on par.

It had its moments, but for the most part it felt like a lot of been-there-done-that. Unengaging story (despite having pleasantly goofy moments), uninspired characters and voice acting (with a few exceptions), dull locales. Utterly lacking in any real sense of tension, instead feeling like a meandering-about with occasionally delivering things to people.

And before the game was done, I wanted it to be over. When a game is giving me a sense of, "Do I have to keep trudging through this," that's rarely a good sign. (I had a strong sense of that feeling when I saw that there was yet another little town to deal with, fairly close to the end. Really, though, the problem there was that I had no sense of how or why it was letting me close in on the real ending. It felt like a tacked-on locale to stretch out the play time a bit. Frankly, all of the final cluster of locales gave me that feeling.)

Before all that 'ending stuff,' the progression through the quests had been a strong point of this game; it was tidy, with a nice amount of non-linearity, and a few quest resolutions felt pretty clever. (For example, I really enjoy it when I have items in my inventory were I have a strong sense of the sort of thing that I'm going to want to use them for....and then, in my exploration, I'm on the lookout for a chance to do so. The seashells were like that.)

There's apparently at least one other game from this franchise, which I hadn't played....and I don't expect I'll be playing any new Nelly Cootalot games either. Worth playing? Your call.

I can recommend this game. It's funny and has very good puzzles. A true classic point and click adventure.

It also has an excellent working Linux version. Nothing to complain about in this regard.

I had to quit playing after the transphobic joke about cross dressing. Some of the jokes and puzzles are just painfully perpetuating stereotypes. Considering I bought the game for the humor, it's disappointing.

For new comer's it is a pretty good one. But for those that have already completed many point & click genre would not recommend.
It is a well rounded game without a flaw, but at the same time, a very unexceptional one.

Most low budget point and click games have so much flaws that leave its players frustrated, but provides its moments whether it be interesting design, beautiful environment or tension in the story acted out by the VA/ or animation.
This game does not.
While charming, designs are very minimal, with no moments that surprises you,
The puzzles can be a little too easy that it rarely gives you a feeling of satisfaction. (Felt like getting a participation reward)

Again good quality, but it's price seems a bit high compare to the experience it provides.
If you have ever had the feeling "been there, done that." This is not the game for you.

Hilarious, Laugh out Loud Adventure. I found the puzzles & games just right. The dialogue was perfect. Excellent point & Click Worth the money. Cant Wait for the sequel! Loved the end credit song! It was so so funny! Any Monkey Island & Point & Click fan would love it!

Nice point-and-click adventure game! Yes, playtime was short (~7 hs) but nevertheless a pleasant one. What I enjoyed most was the voice acting, it really helps setting the atmosphere. Some funny lines even reminded me of Monkey Island. Graphical art is also great, proving adventure games do not need to fall back on pixelated graphics every time. Puzzles were easy to medium difficulty. Storyline was shallow, specially on the second half.

Very cute game with great characters, story, and aesthetics.

Puzzles were too easy to be much of a challenge, but YMMV. Great for kids. Serious Monkey Island vibes. All around a pleasure, and missing some of the more annoying elements you find in similar games (endless walking, long and unskippable dialog, etc).

This game's dialogue made me gigglesnort several times. The puzzles are fun and challenging without being frustrating, the characters are delightful, and the sheer silliness of it all puts even the King's Quest games to shame. Brava, Nelly!

Great game. The puzzling is okay, with nothing being too hard or taxing, but the main draw of this game is the humour, which is is always nice and never mean-spirited, and Nelly herself. The script and the delivery are perfect.

Well.... it's a little bit too hilarious for my taste, but overall still recommended lol

The story is a bit weird, but still well written. I also kind of like the art style and some of the funny puzzles. The flow and the QoL are quite nice, and the voice acting is also good. It's a little bit expensive though.

This game is a delightful sequel to the delightful original (which you should also buy and play first).

The humour is on-point and whilst it is suitable for all ages, it also cleverly includes jokes that only grown-ups will pick-up-on and chortle over.

Point-and-click puzzle games are inherently an alternating sequence of frustration and reward, and the humour is perfectly balanced to make the overall experience very enjoyable.

(I laughed far too hard at the Commodore 64 reference.)

The puzzles are logical, and there's none of that hunting about the screen for single-pixel objects, so they have learned to avoid the problems present in early point-and-click puzzle games.

There's also some lovely voice acting from national treasure Tom Baker, which was a very special treat that got me right in the feels.

This is an entirely glorious game. As someone who started playing KQ6 and MonkeyIsland1 more than 20 yrs ago... I love these sorts of games. NC:TFF is absurdly glorious. I'm not sure what the *best* part is, but I know that I enjoyed the open-ended-ness of some of the puzzles. I also enjoyed the "oh, duuuhhhh" moments. So - yeah - rock on, peeps.

ElusiveOne
ElusiveOne

The Fowl Fleet successfully captures the essence of good point-and-click adventuring with its great characters, humour, locations and puzzles.

This game clearly demonstrates improved excellence over its nonetheless cute predecessor. Uncommon and imperturbable avian fascination lends a unique tone to this pirate-themed adventure that needs not be compared with that other well-known pirate-themed insular simian series.

Generally well conceived and enjoyable puzzles with logical lead-ins and solutions despite the comical absurdity of many situations. I found the game's flow simply perfect, with several non-linear objectives to accomplish simultaneously, no dead ends and a constant sense of comical discovery.

There is not much music in-game. What's there is nice enough but often goes unnoticed, except the hilarious end credits song that acts both as a walkthrough and parody of the game. The voice overs however are outstanding; every performance is spot on.

Positive

    • Looks good, plays great, feels just like the good old adventuring days with few or none of the drawbacks
    • Immediately likable characters and personification
    • Excellent writing and witty dialogue
    • Humour, puns and a love of language
    • Fun to see returning characters from Spoonbeaks Ahoy!
    • Pretty though mostly static backgrounds
    • Lighthearted and not particularly challenging as a whole

Negative

    • Nothing much to dislike if you like the genre
    • Does not break new grounds either
    • Main story arch is a bit lacking

The game has all the handy features of modern adventure gaming, including space bar to reveals hot spots, double-click to fast travel, very accessible UI, a talking bird companion that doubles as a task list reminder, a built-in help system, and more.

Be sure to get the Nelly Cootalot Deluxe Bundle to play both games!

It's Point&Click time-travelling-time.
Those who are into old school adventure games, that haven't played this wonderful marble of the genre yet, have missed a treasure.
I promise, this doesn't get old. The dialogues are fun, the humor is British and the puzzles are fair.
Even for an old Point&Click veteran, for whom there seemingly cannot be any new puzzles anymore and therefore the game-play might have a tendency of easy walking through.. the game is still a lot of fun to play because of the charismatic atmosphere and a little sense of nostalgia.
The puzzles are fun!
Don't forget to combo-right-left click! Always right click first or you will miss out on a lot of elaborate fun and humor.
You also might want to play the game with activated developer comments. You can choose when to listen to them during the game and they bring an extra level of fun to the game.

Dear Developers! Thank you for saving this genre's life and restoring my faith into a world where there is such a thing as making up a story-based game, just because you love it.

This was a charming game, I loved the puns and and Nelly's attitude not so sweet as to be annoying, but not too dark and gloomy either. Solid point and click entry, with the expected tropes, and the puzzles were logical and easy to work out. If their is ever another game from this developer I would definitely back it on kickstarter! The voice acting is solid and the art style is visually pleasing. Great Game, I would love for more and longer. Only sad that it was over.

Entertaining with several references to other things and lots of witty puns. Featuring racing nobles, warring birds, a zombie shaman monkey, pirates, ships, airships and privateers who are just pirates with a bit of paper to say they are not really pirates...honest (With fingers crossed behind their back)

A damned fine puzzley game with a cast of characters from the previous game making a re-appearance and all voice acted including Tom Baker (One of the best if not the best Dr Who ever)

Hope there is a sequel.

Happy, friendly, and lively -- Nelly Cootalot and The Fowl Fleet is an excellent introduction to point-and-click adventures. Sebastian, her sidekick, is there with hints any time you need him. Bright colours, pleasant music, and more cute waterfowl than you could ever want to shake a stick at -- not that you would ever want to shake a stick at cute waterfowl, of course.

I think some of it is a bit hard but otherwise this game is funny, exiting, a bit scary and very interesting. I am only 10 but I did it all on my own. I think you should make more. I like how Nelly is a girl pirate not a boy like most pirates are. I am a bit like Nelly adventurous, funny and well awesome. I think you should try and do Nelly it doesn't matter how old you are.

Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet is an excellent adventure game. It does the pacing just right - you never feel like you are stuck. The puzzles are perhaps a little too easy, which in a game with lesser dialog would feel like busywork, but in this game it's just an opportunity to wander around and have some more cheerful interactions. The characters are all charming and our protagonist brings out the best in them. I love that almost every conversation you can just start with "Hello." It's such a wholesome, happy game.

The Fowl Fleet doesn't tackle any big problems of the world, or overly tax your little grey cells, but it's doesn't pretend to. It is genuinely refreshing to play an adventure which doesn't have any murders or detectives or ghosts in it. Well, i lie, this game does have a ghost. But he's a friendly ghost. Great fun.

Got this as part of a bundle.

It's all right. The puzzles and story were pretty simple and non-serious. Great voice acting, characters had diverse personalities. Some writing was funny which made me crack a smile here and there. I'm not from the UK, if that matters at all.

I think this is more akin to those old point and click games geared towards kids like Pajama Sam and Putt-Putt. So if you like those, this has as a similar feel, but for older kids. It's not quite for little kids, in my opinion.

A very good Point 'N Click game. I found it amusing and enjoyable until the very end, though it did leave me wanting more when it ended. What I liked most about it was the humour, rather British and includes a few hidden adult jokes. The protagonist Nelly is funny and charismatic. The art style is pretty unique and charming. Story is decent, as are the puzzles.

This is definitely the best game I've played in a long time. I loved the story, the acting and the puzzles. I also loved that they kept the text to the necessary minimum. Based on the artwork and style, I originally thought this game was made for kids. I got it because it features Tom Baker and I'm a huge Doctor Who fan. This is a SUPER easy point and click, but it's still fun and has an engaging story. The graphic style took me some time to get used to, but after a while I began to appreciate it. The characters are genuinely quirky and fun and it's the kind of game you could easily play with youngish kids.

If you like this sort of game t's ok, but pretty short gameplay if you're buying full price. I wish there was a recommended option for "so-so, play it if you're out of other games" button. I bought it for $10 and it seemed slightly overpriced at that price.

I don't care for games that force you to watch long cutscenes like this one. If I want to watch something I have tv.

In any given scene there are a several hot spots that do nothing, but not nearly enough to make it seem more challenging.

Waiting for the endless commentary from Nelly gets old, especially with the low variety and the need to revisit some scenes multiple times. It took me 4.5 hours to finish this, and I think half of that or more was just watching stuff and waiting for her to stop talking. Response time for actions and loading new areas is oddly slow for a game like this, adding to the wait factor.

Wombat

I played this with my eight year old daughter and we had a hoot!

For me it reminded me of a misspent youth playing the Monkey Island series of games. It is a shorter game than those, a bit less complicated and with fewer places where you can get truly stuck. However, the visuals, the dialogue and the comedy is even better. I had to explain a few of the jokes to my daughter, but she solved several of the puzzles before I could. Great fun to play together.

Meowish

A fun and lovely adventure game that takes you on a journey as a pirate(?), being a sequel to the other Nelly game showing more of what happened later in the story.

The puzzles in this sequel are carefully planned out compared to the first series which are rather scattered about... making a lot of them... predictable, almost deja-vu-like... If you played a lot of adventure games, you've probably solved them once or twice before... So, this makes it a lot easier than the 1st in compare, but in a good way. The plan layout actually makes this more game like, especially fun for those new to adventure games. But for those who did a lot of these genre, well, the dialog and ideas are funny so the story is still pretty enjoyable in its silly little way (Kinda like Monkey Island). The puzzles in the later part of the game might crack a brain juice or two but still pretty easy for a veteran puzzle solver. So just sit back and enjoy the story itself, both the story and the story telling is fun in this game and it's even worth the time to do silly stuffs like trying every options available in choices just to enjoy it more. It's definitely worth the time trying out ALL the candles on How Fat and check on his reactions.

I have actually bought this game twice now. Once on Steam (played it, loved it) and once on my phone a few years later. Still loved it very much. On the phone I think there was a bug at the end that made things a bit difficult for me, but I managed to get past it eventually. I can't remember if I had the same problem on Steam though. The creator said he wasn't aware of any such problems. Perhaps I was just being daft? It happens.

Anyway, I have recommended this orally to several people already. The comedy in this game is fantastic! I was having so much fun. Ah, yes. Great.

I absolutely loved this game until..... well terrible design about 2 hours in. Seriously folks, are you going to build in an Operation board game without really QA testing it?
I love the humor, voice acting, and I think most of the puzzles make sense but holy cow folks don't make mini-games if you can't execute.
I'm hoping the developer can see this and provide a better tutorial / show the hot spots for the mini-game.

Absolutely charming from start to finish.

I remembered playing - and loving! - the original game "Spoonbeaks Ahoy!" back when it was released as freeware on the AGS forums. The ending hinted at a sequel and at a much wider story, but so many indie projects promise big but never deliver, so imagine my surprise and delight when I discovered that "The Fowl Fleet" had actually been made and released!

This game is clearly a love letter to old-school Lucasarts adventure games. It has a charmingly goofy sense of humour (Nelly is a hoot to spend time with and there are plenty of puns to go around) and the graphics are bright and engaging. Whilst obviously inspired by the Monkey Island games, it finds its own spin on the cartoon pirate adventure and all thoughts of comparison soon went out of my head.

Most importantly, the game goes out of its way to try and improve upon the core game mechanics of the old-style adventure games. It includes features to help you find hot-spots; there's an in-built hint system by way of Nelly's sidekick Sebastian; the puzzles are varied in type and I never found myself getting too stuck.

My only slight quibble might be that the game devs scored BIG by securing the one and only Tom Baker to voice a character, but that he's kind of wasted on the character of Sebastian. Since Sebastian's biggest function in the game is for you to talk to whenever you need a hint, I mostly avoided talking to him because I wanted to work things out for myself - and that meant I rarely got to hear Tom's contribution to the game.

But overall I heartily recommend the game. It's also perfectly suitable for all ages and might be fun as a family playthrough!

As I have been following the game's author's main work for a while, (which I would highly recommend to most people on the planet) I finally brought myself to buying the game during a sale. The drawing style is simple, but atmospheric, the voice-acting is mostly superb and the few birds one gets to see up close are truly adorable. The highlight of the game definitely are the song-bits, which are completely insane and oddly catchy. Bought it during a sale and thought it was quite sweet. Especially for a game both written and animated by someone who, as far as I understand, only dabbles in game-development.

But eventually it is only against the background of personal dedication going into it that I can give the game a thumbs-up altogether. To me, the central problem of 'Nelly Cootalot' is its inconsequence regarding its target audience.

For adults, the pace and 'childish sassy tone' of the protagonist at times strike me as almost unbearable.
This is not so much about the walking animations and general navigation, as it is about the narration being extremely linear. You see a room and its items, think 'Ah, I see where this is going...!' but then realise that Nelly does not. Not yet, anyway. You have to trigger the 'official awareness-points' to have her catch up with your own thinking, which is not entirely unlikely to trigger an adult's sense of achievement-unrelated 'Time Wasting'.
As a pure children's game, there probably would not be much to complain about, if anything at all. Execept maybe that the themes of the game's jokes then should have been even better adjusted to such an audience.

For example, not just the picture of a 'monkey and an organ grinder' showing that El Mono is currently being in an exploiting working environment under Widebeard might be to much of a stretch for children; things like Sebastian describing the kind, bird-loving genius inventor as a 'mixture between St. Francis of Assisi and Leonardo da Vinci' is most likely to raise more questions with children than it answeres, very much like a figure's characterisation as 'Christopher Lee's less lovable brother' The fire-and-brimstone(-and-yet-extremely-dimwitted) missonary figure in front of the viking village I personally consider completly unsuitable for a children's game. Or any fun game, when I think about it. Also, no child currently the right age for the general tone of this game knows the great Tom Baker for who he is or was. Of course, objectively good voice-acting is always a plus, but the truly special factor simply cannot be appreciated by them. The list goes on.

Altogether, the atmospheres of 'fun little pirate adventure' and 'a festival for nerds' just alternate too often for my taste to create good immersion. But, as a lot of adults still seem to enjoy it, I might simply be the wrong kind of nerd for this game. Anyway, if bought for a joint parent-and-child gaming experience, I would still recommend buying the game during a sale.

6/10, might send a confused airship-captain to Milton Keynes again

This is one of the most amazing adventure games I've ever played and I've played a ton! It's a true labor of love. There are many interesting characters each with their own personalities, lots of great locations and the puzzles are very cleverly integrated within the game. While the game definitely reminds us of monkey island and that's a good thing, it's also got a uniqueness of its own. There are thousands of lines of dialog but it never drags on or gets tedious or boring. It's always short and usually humourous. While the game never takes itself too seriously, and the graphics are kind of simple, there is definitely a big meaty adventure game and story in there. Trust me just buy it and you'll fall in love with it and all the fun whacky characters! Hoping there's another one soon!

Good for kids, no, GREAT for kids. Wouldn't recommend for an adult, as we can finish it rather quickly.

I'd say there are 5 areas? And I really was hoping for more.

I enjoyed the whole game! I really enjoyed just trying to find things to analyze and/or act on.

I especially enjoyed listening to these commentaries that came along while I played the game. Though I listened to most of them after sometime it was made available to listen to in the game. I, as a hearing impaired person, really appreciated that this was like listening to a podcast with subtitles. The conversation made me appreciate the game and the people behind the production much much much more!

I look forward to what games you could produce in the future. :)

This is a very fun point and click adventure game of a young lass trying to prove her seaworthyness amoungst pirate kind! I really enjoy that there is a tool that'll show you what elements can be interacted with to save you from blindly clicking on every object on the screen in hopes of something happening. I also like that parts of story unfold as you solve each riddle to help you with the next one. Very fun and clever.

Fun puzzles that are nostalgic to the game type and humorous. Plus cute birds and pirate. What more could you ask for?

Nelly Cootalot is a class act (the game and the character). Innocent but non-stupid fun is such a rare commodity, but Nelly pulls it off. Nelly's world is a sort of bonkers Cornwall of the South Seas but it's basically internally consistent and you can't ask for more than that of bonkers South Sea Cornwall. The puzzles are creative, fair, and not so challenging, but as they are a seamless part of the narrative, again, can't complain. The voice acting, especially for Nelly herself, is beautifully unforced, as if the voice actor were Nelly in real life, which I sincerely hope is the case. (Tom Baker also graces a talking coot with far more dignity than a coot should have.) The only cavil I can present is that the dimensions of the Baroness's butt seem to have been reduced along the X, Y and Z axes since Spoonbeaks Ahoy!, which is at least two axes too many and shows unexpected timidity of the part of the art director.

I'm an ABK fan after finding him on Reddit during the first quarantine. Match this with a quirky point-and-click adventure and I'm sold!

Great game and songs, I found it quite funny, and the puzzles are pleasant and sometimes new. No spoilers but some of them for sure I have never seen before. Overall a game I had a lot of fun playing.

This game was a lot of fun, got a little frustrated at the beginning dealing with a tiny bug, but after that, it was smooth sailing, fun puzzles, great gameplay, full of witty puns and jokes.

I disliked and disdained the game when i first tried it, several years ago. I found it silly, childish, and too easy.

Some months ago i decided to give it another shot. Although i still think it's not exactly for everyone, it does have quality and can give you a few hours of simple, casual, lighthearted fun.

The interface works well enough - and even surprisingly well with a gamepad. The plot is funny and reasonably logical. The graphics are pleasant, and the music isn't bad. The voice casting is actually pretty good.

I do recommend this game, but do be sure to give the trailers a good look - it may a bit too childish and simple for most players out there.

Six hours of mildly adult humor and plenty of silly puzzles to solve. Very enjoyable. And it worked great in Ubuntu 21.10 on a 5950X/GT1030 in 4K! Their director's commentary already acknowledges the puzzles that weren't perfect. It'd be great if they made another game in the series like this! (Don't bother with the Spoonbeaks Ahoy! though...)

This game is SO MUCH FUN! :)
Very engaging and playable, a decent length, story isn't bad and a good level of puzzle difficulty (seemed to get progressively harder). But above all - got to shout out the great humour which is very feelgood, and the incredibly charming characters and animation. Loved it!

Overall = 6/10

A sweet and charming pirate themed adventure with some British wit and humour. It looks good with colourful cartoon animation and sounds good with strong voice acting and catchy musical pieces, but the puzzles are easy and there’s a bit too much back and forth in solving them. The plot didn’t really gel with me and ended limply, the characters are a bit too stereotypical and it felt a bit slow / stiff to play, but it’s still an enjoyably fun and funny adventure game.

A cozy, feel-good adventure clearly inspired by classics like Monkey Island (the devs are even implying that in the game itself). Nice art style, cool puzzles (0 instances of moon logic) and a plethora of funny puns, references, and British humor. All in all, you'll be having a fun time with the charming Nelly and eventually wish it lasted longer!

I was not too sure about this game as I thought it would be a juvenile point and click. I was so wrong. The game is imaginative and cheeky. The puzzles, while inventory-based for the most part, require you to think about what item you need and possibly how to manipulate it to further the action. I found myself stuck a few times. What's good is that if you are stuck, your inventory is fairly limited and your choose of locations is not massive so you can sort out the solution without a lot of trial and error or backtracking. Talk to everyone as they drop hints.

I normally do not listen to commentary but I did this time and it was funny and informative. Really good game that just requires your imagination and a bit of thinking. Worth buying.

The script still managed to amuse and delight me even though I'm not 9, 19 or 90. Whimsical, piratey point-and-click fun. 6/10

A charming little game. Nelly Cootalot is an adorable heroine.
The puzzles are well-designed and don't spend too much time
forcing you to trek halfway across the map and back again
to solve each step. Not too many red herrings, but a couple.

And a pleasing UI feature - you can press the space bar to see
what things on the screen are actually clickable, rather than
having to go pixel-hunting. I especially appreciate that because
pixel-hunting is boring and tedious and has no place in any
entertaining game. Glad to see it eliminated here.

I played through in a few hours over several sessions and I wasn't
hurrying. Even then, exploring reasonably thoroughly I reckon
I still missed about 1/3 of the hidden extras. The game rewards
exploration with some funny and entertaining side comments and
descriptions. While you can steam through most of the game without
bothering with them, I think you'd be missing a lot of the game's
charm if you did.

A really sweet and funny point and click adventure game.

Overall, worth replaying, but not worth replaying over and over.
Pretty sure I'll give it another run-through once I've started to forget
the puzzles again. And I will be giving it a run-through with the
developers' commentary turned on, so I think those add a good
dose of extra value. I've only heard the first episode so far because
I stopped before the spoilers.

A game I look forward to revisiting.

This game is a delight!

It's truly funny throughout, with clever puzzles, great voice acting, beautifully drawn locations, good UI, and a love for birds. It's clearly been designed by someone who not only loves the old classic adventure games, but also understands what makes them work - everything flows as it should, the protagonist's feedback on the player's actions is clear, and everything has that perfect twisted logic of a classic point & click, plus the cheeky meta awareness to make fun of it all. Apparently I've only played 5 hours, but it felt like a lot more (in a good way!); maybe because I never found myself aimlessly wandering around unsure of what to do next, there was always something happening and moving forward.

One very cool feature that I haven't seen in other games is the creator commentary track that you can play after certain scenes - what a great idea! It gives insight into the game in the same brand of witty humour as the game itself (unsurprisingly, as it is the creators commentarying), and it's so much more engaging to hear these anecdotes right after I've played the scene rather than all together in a long audio track or video after I've finished the game and forgotten most of it. A wonderful bonus to a super fun game.
