Liking it so far, it is funny seeing some of the reviews though, complaining of the idle nature of an idle game, like what did you expect? I like managing it, and leaving idle games on in the background or on a second screen when I'm working or watching something. I also really like the art style of this and idle heroes odyssey, and the long term progression. Prefer paying for a game like this than a f2p idle game with microtransactions.

Be cautious if purchasing this game in 2023 or later. I have spent a couple of hours or so, trying to stop the game from crashing, with no luck.
The game keeps crashing after some 60 seconds. Doesn't matter if you're looking around in settings or whatever, it crashes regardless.
I've tried what it says in the description of the game, compatibility mode, admin rights and some other stuff, and nothing. The game simply do not care, and won't stop crashing.

The last update as of writing this review, is 2 and a half years ago, so apparently, the dev. as well, don't care.

I cannot recommend a game that no longer functions.
Purchase at your own risk.

For the 6 minutes I have tried to play it, it has crashed 6 times. I seems it has some issue with crashing on high end pc/Windows according to some other users. Steam will not refund me either as I bought the game but had it in my steam library for over 14 days before I played it, so even though I only had 6 minutes gametime or less they would not refund it even though the game does not work... If you have a half-decent pc, do not buy this. It may work, but it may also not.

This team auto battler is pleasant. Runs okay on current MacOS (I had one unexpected crash at the end of a boss battle, but game preserved the win. Developers instructions regarding crash reporting seem to be either mis-translated or written by an AI.) Worth the purchase price, but good to get on sale.

Game can be really fun once you get into it and understand all its systems, try and turn on all the 'auto' functions the moment you can to make your life easier

A lot of the hours shown here are from near the tail end where it gets ridiculous to upgrade further to handle the final challenges the game has, so at the least the first 40 hours or so were fun i recommend this (But not the sequel Odyssey!)

Bosses are insanely overpowered. After three full days of leaving this game running in the background I STILL can't defeat the blue dragon. And it's not even close. Party wipe before half his hit points are gone. Do game designers put any real thought into their products anymore? Skip this one unless you enjoy being frustrated.

Keep in mind, hours are not indicative of actual play time, because the game has to run at all times. I probably actually played about 3-4 hours.

To be honest I'm a little disappointed.

Really shallow gameplay. I was a huge fan of Dragon Cliff and the RPG Management genre. However No-brainer Heroes offers little in terms of gameplay depth.

Any of the decent builds revolve around skill rate and ult rate. Even then, only a handful of characters are even decent to build around.

Limited number of available characters and many of them are very similar.

The english is very rough, it is hard to understand some of the terms especially if you are not familiar with this type of game.

e.g: ExtraRate actually means Ultimate Skill Rate

The event system is very lackluster, often leading to you having to manually play a level. This takes the game from a sim to a JRPG turn based battle.

There is no information on mobs, or their abilities or the stats of said mobs, making it basically impossible to adjust or optimize for a given level.

The dragons in endless mode are essentially huge time-checks, meaning ahve you been grinding and leveled your characters enough or done enough "break-through"s? If not, no way you are clearing this content.

The content is not gated behind skillfully making a good team build, it is gated behind time grinded.

On that note, the game only progresses while you have it on, so you have to run it all the time.

TLDR; Low build diversity, poor translation, lack of item depth, no sense of community in game (no npcs, no passive character development), nothing to do while your team is adventuring, nothing distinguishes one level from the other

A game that can work in the background and somehow touchites it.

The character icon of the equipment screen is small, it is not possible to distinguish the character,
Because the equipment editing became a hassle, I am glad that there is an improvement.
Also, because it is difficult to know who is the team, which team belongs to with the icon,
I felt that there was an improvement that could be shown.

It's fun to see the characters growing up frequently, and it's getting stronger.
If you have a reinforcement number (+X) in the blacksmith, and you lock the item,
I can't see the strengthening figures. I think it's better to change the location of the lock icon or make it smaller.

I don't get the bad reviews. This is a very decent timer-waster like Dragon Cliff and I actually even like No-brainer Heroes better (simply because it is more pleasing to the eye already). The english translation is as bad as expected but it's still good enough to understand everything. There are some chinese (?) signs left over in some of the menus though.

The game keeps you occupied for the most part: disenchant stuff, enchant stuff, check the shop, set your hero skills, use items, send your groups to different areas, deal with events, open chests, and so on. But there are also times when you can pretty much just wait until your heros are done with something because there isn't much to improve anymore. This is especially true in the later stages of endless mode.

The story only unlocks only after your first victory over the blue dragon for some reason (usually endless mode comes after the story here it's the other way round). I haven't looked into it yet but it looks pretty cool from the main menu. You have a certain amount of points to spend which you can use to select heroes, items and effects that you have unlocked in endless mode (so it's actually worth it to grind for those rare heroes or artifacts - and it really motivated me to do so). Story mode appears to feature a world map too. Endless mode slows down considerably in act 2. It becomes a lot more difficult and grindy at first (easier again later but the grindy part stays). In the later stages of endless mode you will not interact with the game much anymore. The biggest showstoppers are the green, golden and black dragons which force you to adapt to their difficulty. At that point you need to grind for several hours until you have collected enough resources to move your heroes to the next tier (weapon, armour, trinkets, level up cap). Of course you still need to develop a proper strategy. Fortunately you can run the game in the background, also while playing another game (even on my crappy laptop this worked out just fine). As a rough estimate I would say you need around 200 hours to kill the black dragon in endless mode when starting out as a new player.

------------------------------------------

And now for some hints on what to do and what to avoid:

- don't get practice (skill), 50 % more exp sounds nice but your heros can't use skills anymore
=> no skills = no progress and also a quick way to die after the initial areas
=> only give this to a single hero if he lags behind too much (better feed him xp books)

- there are two skills your hero can actvate: skill and ultimate skill
if you want to use one of these (and you do) then you should also get the passive skills:
skill rate and/or ultimate skill rate
these determine how often your heroes will use the skills in auto-combat
it may be nice to have a maxed out skill but if they never use it you won't have much out of it
=> get the passives!

- There are hero quality levels
Try not to hire blue heroes in the beginning.
They are crap for the most part but they also come with a passive xp buff.
So hire them later just for that. You will probably never use them.
Definitely get Jennifer and give her the early artifact staff. Very useful for the whole game.

- There is also an active combat mode where the player controls the heroes.
For example when you have to fight the big bad dragons.
In this mode you NEED to reconsider your hero skills (unless your heroes are overpowered).
This is especially true for the first dragon fight because of the sudden spike in difficulty.
Get rid of the auto passives and slot other skills.
Reseting hero skills can be a bit expensive in the beginning though.

- There are also certain artifacts that you can upgrade to your hearts content.
Unlock these and do just that.
If you use "refine" on these items you get the best bonuses out of the item in the beginning.
Later it is better to enhance first (the bonus improves a whole lot).
But if you want to use it in later stages you will have to "break the item limit" multiple times.
Otherwise the item becomes too weak. If you do that however, all the refinements are gone.
Plus you also need to *fully* upgrade the item to first to be able to "break it". Quite costly.
Therefore focus on your two favorite items from each category.
There is also an option to enchant the item. The bonus is weak but stays after breaking.
Since enchanting cost also increases each level it is best to get a good enchantment early.
Something like +5 skill rate or +5 % SP / +5 % attack.

- Upgrading the tavern unlocks new heroes (until level 15).
But unless you have advanced sufficiently you can't really hire them.
You can also hire employees for all your shops here (varying quality levels).

- Get either the whitehaired archer or the fat spear guy for the "avoid boss" skill at first.
Makes autogrind a lot less of a hassle (but you won't be able to grind for trinkets).
Later they don't really matter anymore. Although "boss hunter" becomes a nice addition then.

- Save up your skill books for heroes you want to use them on (i.e. not Walter, rather Kaira).
At some point in stage 2 these books don't really matter anymore.
So you can just dump them on anyone then.

- Generally every hero is unique but there are certain types of heroes.
Some have skills with high single target damage. These are good for bosses.
Others have good aoe, tanking, healing, buff or support abilites (some are mixed).
Each hero can be replaced by another one of the same type.
No hero is absolutely necessary even though it may at first seem like it.
To clear levels quickly you want to invest into fast acting and reliable aoe dmg heroes.
Equip these accordingly and level up their gear.
To see all the possible heroes take a look at the pretty artbook! (Elf comes last T_T)

- The merchant sells you chests which can contain artifacts (depending on the shop level).
Some are really worth getting (like the heart gem accessory).
More artifacts can be bought from the dragon crystal store (mostly cave grind minigame).
The rest comes either from picking the right choices during events (grind every area!).
Or from the achievement points shop (very slow progress here, you will rarely use this).

- There are fruit that permanently increase one of your character's stats (one for all stats).
Use strength fruits even on mages because it raises their defense (similar with the int fruit).
Don't get these from the exchange shop. The merchant sells these normally well enough.

------------------------------------------

The rest is easy enough to figure out by yourself. Enjoy!

The game is fucking dog shit. Tons of really simple typos, it's a gigantic grindfest - like, a mobile game, but one I paid money for. And have to play at home. It's absolute garbage, don't buy.

Not the best Adventurer Managment game i have ever played, a lot of downtime. It behaves in someways like an Idle game, where you simply have to wait a day or two for clearing a stage, but here is the kicker, need to stay on :P

so ehh... 6 of 10 points, not the best game out there not by a long shot, but some fun aspect, if you just want something to mess aroun with while reading or doing laundry then eh you can do worse.

RECOMMENDED Ratings : 7/10
I normally played RPGs with good stories, but this game is from a totally different genre. This game is actually a "incremental idle" game with almost no stories. It's a game where you need to pass time for the game to progress to the next milestone.

This game is actually very addictive. For the early game, the progress is fast, and I just simply love to watch the game as it progresses. It's almost like "watching the kettle" boil. However, in mid game, it become obvious that I am just wasting my time watching the progress which is really slow. It's fun, it's addictive BUT I must find something else to do to pass time quickly. So, I would just play 2 games at the same time. I played a second game to pass time, while keeping this game running in the background.

However towards the end game, I found that I am really losing my concentration on my second game, as I keep thinking of the progress of "no-brainer heroes". Ultimately, I found a solution. I spend a week watching drama mini-series on a second computer, while keeping this game running on my first computer. Whenever there is a advertisement break, I would go back to intervention of this game.

"No brainer heroes" is really a fun and addictive game, especially towards the end. However, it is an especially hard game for people who are obsessive compulsive and who are trying to get ALL achievements. So, it you are in that category (like me), then you would either have great fun, or tear your hair out waiting :) :) Still, I love it and recommend it.

If you enjoyed Dragon Cliff, this one is for you.
You can manage several parties and customize your chars a bit more. Overall a nice timewaster on the side.

Update after around 200 hours of gameplay:
After the progress got to a halt around hour 90, i was grinding around 110 hours just to beat the next Dragon (says level 157 - my party is lvl 160 at this point) and still not being able to beat that, i have to say - the endgame content is not balanced.

Left the PC on for several days to overlevel my chars and the thing just heals itself for more than i can damage it with the entire overleveled party... there is no way this got playtested.
Leaving the game running for a day just to "click once" to level up after getting up is not exactly "gameplay" at that point.

Translation issues aren´t really that annoying to me, but others may not like it.
The skills/stats are barely described/translated, so you pretty much end up experimenting blindly.

I´d still reccomend this, but well - there are flaws^^ Anyway for the few bucks you get some decent entertainment out of this.

The only reason I uninstalled this game was because It's an idle game - and it was getting close to accruing more hours than my favorite titles.
The translations are horrendous – but it’s a fun enough game to have run in the background.
It’s very RAM intensive, but so long as you don’t run it under other games, you should be fine letting your team explore and grow while you’re away.

5.5/10
Competent enough of a game.
Worth checking out if you’re cruising for a good idle game.

[In]Nox
[In]Nox

5/10, which is fine for the price.

Lots of things to click around on and keep you entertained if you're easily amused like myself, but the game probably only really needs your full attention for 5-10 minutes every couple hours once you have your teams configured and know what you're focusing on.

It's a bit stagnant in what you can develop for teams. The limited amount of AP(mana) most characters seem to have mandate you focus resources in to damage instead of making balanced teams for boss fights. For farming, AoE is king and there's no reason to explore anything else.

There are talents but they are not balanced. You want Speed or First Speed, ATK or Spell Damage, and high skill/ult rate. Just about every character seems to gravitate towards those unless you want the auto-guard at the start of each fight for your tanks.

Some minor bugs:
Team placement counting pets towards your total unit count unless they're the last unit placed
The game will crash sometimes, but it seems to save so frequently I've never lost progress (could be luck)
damage numbers stop appearing after a while

Atlun
Atlun

It's far less fun than Dragon Cliff and some design choices make certain classes feel very weak.
And mechanics aren't really explained.

Like what Resistance does or whatever.
Is it status resistance, general dmg reduction or critical dmg resistance.

Concept's nice, but execution's weak.

The gameplay so far is on par with what you would expect to get for free. However, its an absolute mess in terms of poor translation efforts and organization.

But in the end, I actually enjoy it and dont really want to read any of the quest text anyway...

Something you should get on sale if you like idlers that dont focus on cash shops or clicking.

ZarethKnyght

I want to know how much people were paid to post good reviews about this game. Especially ones that claim this is better than Dragon Cliff.

Here are some things of note:
The endless mode has more story to it than the story mode. Oh...story mode is locked away and needs you to beat a dragon in endless mode to be unlocked.

Tediusly horrible AI. Also no control over the AI at all. This is a huge detriment as the AI rarely uses the skills you give your heroes. I guess it kind of fits the title since the AI has no brains. Worse part is that there are some battles where you HAVE to do it manually. No choice is given on doing things manually or using the no brainer AI.

Slow and clunky. Many of the functions that can easily be put into the game (such as hotkeys for certain functions) doesn't exist. So you have to click pretty much everything. This would be okay if the progression of the game was good. Sadly that's not the case. When you first start out, you can easily beat enemies slightly higher in level than you. Go a few tiles ahead and you'll start having trouble fighting against enemies that are at a low level than you. Again, wouldn't be a big issue if it was only slightly lower but when your level 40+ party has trouble beating up level 30ish enemies while having the highest tier equipment available...something is lacking.

Going to keep trying this longer to see if things improve but as of the time of writing this, I've spent about 23 hours in it and have not found it all worth paying full price. Maybe $5 or less.

Update: I still think that this game is best to snag (if at all) when there's a sale on it as there are still quite a few bugs and the developers are slow to fix or update from what I've noticed. Very little support or info available too. It gets slightly less tedious after getting that one or two OP characters but the other bugs still remain. It's a good time waster to have running when you're doing something else but there are other options as well to try first before getting this one.

Recommanded : Not just wallet robery

Why ?

You can't farm item/loot on different stages. When your average level from your team is higher than stage level, you'll get highly reduced grind loot and after 0 loots.

SAVE YOUR MONEY don't waste your time to buy this game.

The same company created same game but idle version where you can farm item/loot on diffrent stage.
You understand that ? Don't pay twice same game it's stupid and just robery.

Look at this similar game from same company first :

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1335240/Idle_HeroesOdyssey/

And definitively avoid this No Brainer Heroes. Only players who don't know truth will be lead to this trap. But you are lucky to read my review here to stay aware.

Unfortunatly was too late for me to ask refund to Steam. I won't buy Idle game because i consider paying twice for same game.

It wasn't what I was expecting.

Super addictive, HOWEVER, GPU usage gets insanely high. Suspiciously high.

Almost tempted to demand a cut of the bitcoin I am mining for Communist China in this scenario.

Given I am running a GTX 2060 Super, with a 9th gen core i7, and 16GB of Corsair vengeance RAM - a pixelart idle game should really not be making any impact at all on my system resources, but hey, never question China. NEVER (lol)

The engine is decent, but the game feels very unfinished. Even setting aside the places where they copy/pasted text incorrectly (achievement bosses, anyone?) and the many translation issues, there are tons of unexplained mechanics, a punishingly grindy difficulty curve, and serious balance issues.

It could be fun if they finished it, but right now it's not ready to be played by the masses.

Was hoping for a Dragon Cliff replacement, but this ain't it chief. The only positive is that this is a buy-it-once game instead of a F2P cash shop model, but everything else is more frustrating than it's worth.
