What a waste of money.... I think you need to be on drugs or something to get this game.
It just made no since, it jumped all over the place and just was hard to follow.
Not good at all.

There is so much to say about Observer System redux, I honestly don’t know where to begin.

I’ll start with a simple statement: I love this game!

Observer System Redux is an immersive, atmospheric, story based, exploration based, puzzle based, crime scene investigation based walking simulator. There are many side quests to find, many areas to explore and collectibles to uncover. It took me around 8 hrs to finish the game my first time through.

This game is a trip. The immersion level is off the charts. It’s setting and ambiance are imaginative, unique and profound. The Cyberpunk setting is perfectly executed in terms of visual fidelity and artistic design. The presentation is simply wonderful. Yes it’s super dark but the colors ‘pop’ and overall is a visual feast to the eyes. Visually the artistic design is just so imaginative, it really blew my mind. Sure the game takes place in an apartment complex… doesn’t sound too imaginative, does it?… but the game goes everywhere. It takes the viewer on a wild, David Lynch inspired ride. You’ll find yourself in many David-Lynch-esque set pieces, constantly being surprised by what the game throws at you. It keeps you interested. In fact, I would go so far as to say that ‘Observer System Redux’ is one of the most interesting games I’ve ever played.

And now for the negative. Performance wise, the game can be a little choppy during its loading sequences. There are no loading screens but you can tell when the game is loading a new section by the way the game stutters for around a second. It happens quite often but but compared to what the game does right, it almost feels silly mentioning it. When the game is running, it runs buttery smooth.

If you like immersive, story based, moody, grim, cyberpunk experiences, you’ll love this!!

This game is a narrative driven experience with no real gameplay elements. Sort of a walking simulator where you delve into people's brains. You can scan things in the environment but it doesn't play much of a role beyond accessing people's minds. That being said, the narrative is gripping. If you can find it on sale, I would recommend it.

Highly recommended! It's so incredibly underrated, the game has an intuitive story line that would drive you to exploring. It's easy to get lost in this world. It can get pretty confusing, but keep an open mind for what might happen. Oh

The game basically consists of 2 parts: 1 being great 2 making me puke.
+ A overall lack of polish, weird game design

1: Interesting and atmospheric exploration of the complex in which you spend most of the game in, including cool side quests with decent enough puzzles/choices/scary sections.
2: Boring and overstimulating dream sequences, which are a very big part of the overcomplicated but simple and dumb main story.

A bit more in depth

I really enjoyed the first couple hours of the game which i spent exploring, finding side missions, meeting new characters. But the more I moved into the main story, the more headache-inducing and boring dream-sections I was forced to sit through, the more i lost interest in playing.
The game really doesn't seem polished: bugs/framedrops, weird and specific trigger points for sound-cues/items/light, clunky movement. It definitely didnt help either that the game design is so all over the place at times that I wasn't able to distinguish bugs/glitches from intented gameplay/story progression in certain sections.
And even though i liked the exploration, the game felt more like an atmospheric walking sim with light puzzle elements. The game lacks any exciting gameplay, the few "enemy" encounters are rare, bad and meaningless.

Observer won't be everyone's cup of tea. There's no combat and it's for the most part walking. That being said, the narrative does shine. It's an exploration of characters that exist within a Cyberpunk Dystopia, putting the tropes of the genre to use in a horror game and it naturally does it well. Sanity, reality and sense of self are normally themes in a Cyberpunk setting and they go along very well with the game's other genre, horror.

Rutger Hauer gives something of a cold, disconnected performance, but one that fits old Dan Lazarski. He sounds a little tired and beaten down. When a character has been through as much as Dan has, that's exactly what they are. Tired, old and beaten down. It's nice to hear Hauer in general if you're a fan of the genre. I could ask for no one else to be the protagonist in a game like this.

Overall, I recommend this game, but only if you can really get into a psychological horror with no combat.

SpookyOTU
SpookyOTU

Well it's that time of year again, isn't that right? The spookiest month of the year where at the end, we go to other peoples houses for candy, and a trip to the operating room because of razor blades. The month also gives me an excuse to marathon spooky games, or movies, a tradition of mine that I started last year. And, since I'm hot off of watching all of Cyberpunk Edgerunners, I thought why not start off my horror game marathon with a cyberpunk horror game? That's exactly what The Observer is.

So, is it good? Yes, I'd say so. Although like with every and any other game in existence, it's not perfect. I'll get my complaints out of the way first, and I'll start off with explaining my problems with the graphics options shmasm whatever you wanna call it. The graphics themselves are beautiful, no doubt, I played the game all the way through on ultra with ray-tracing and a solid 120 fps. Now, usually when I boot the game again, it's not capped to 120 fps, as my RivaTuner shows it running above that limit. While an fps above 120 sounds dandy, the reason I kept it at that limit is because I have a heavy workload gpu, and the unlimited fps that would go at least over 250 by the way, along with the ray-tracing and ultra settings at 1440p, not even 4K, would crank my gpu to 80 degrees. Thank god I had the RivaTuner monitoring. Also I had many, many stuttering issues across my 8 hours with the game. Luckily that's pretty much the only issues I've experienced, I didn't crash at all while playing, so that's good.

Now, what's The Observer anyways? What's the story? Well I mean, you could always look at the Steam page...But I'll tell you anyways. Well, sometime in the future a very nasty war between two different sides of the world left each other in shambles, so much so that a Polish corporation took the reigns. If it couldn't get any worse there's the nasty Nanophage plague. The year is now 2084. You, the player, take the role of The Observer himself, Daniel Lazarski, who by the way is voiced by none other than the legendary late Rutger Hauer. Dan travels to what I can describe as the crappiest apartment complex that acts as the games' main liminal space, as he looks for clues and answers to figure out the whereabouts of his son, while uncovering a killer that is loose in the building which is on lockdown.

Now what I can tell you is, that horror is subjective. This game may scare you, it may not. I'm not usually scared because I'm absolutely cold, and it takes the worst of the worst vile real world garbage to actually scare me. The events throughout the story itself, I wasn't able to clue it all together, but I think maybe its one of those things that is better just through pure speculation, an outside looking in thing if you will. I wouldn't say it's bad at all really. But, it's also not very engaging. While there are times when you have to avoid some kind of threat, these are very short lived and very few of em happen. Can't help but feel too that the acting seems just a bit off for some reason.

Gameplay itself is fine. It's like a walking simulator with a hint of detective work. Collectables in the form of mugshots(?). it is what it is, you'll have to try it yourself to see if you like it or not. I sure didn't mind it all that much. That's pretty much all I've to say about the game, pretty solid experience from my point of view. I'd highly recommend it.

This has nothing to do with my review, but I thought I'd make mention of it here. I can vaguely remember the day during the summer of 2019, I watched Blade Runner for the first time. The movie with it's visuals, themes, world, and the soundtrack, easily made it one of my top 5 movies of all time, and it was my introduction to the genre of cyberpunk. In a cruel ironic fate or twist, literally days after within the same week of watching the movie, it was announced that the actor in the film who plays Roy Batty, Rutger Hauer, who also voices Daniel in the Observer, had passed away at the age of 75. This man delivered one of the most memorable, chilling, and emotional monologues I've ever heard in any media. So, rest in peace Mr. Hauer, your memories and the impact you've made will not be lost in time like tears in rain.

A vision of a dark, technocratic hellscape.

Also feels like CP2077 copied a lot of the ideas from this game (Bloober Team and CDPR are both Polish studios), or at least borrowed from it. The braindances, the dark cyberpunk aesthetic, the violence aspects, even the textures and designs feel similar. Conspiracy??

I haven't enjoyed it. Story is OK. Graphic - it was too much for me. Hard to understand what the !@#$ is happening. I completed the game, but I still do not understand what I played. And I do not want to play it again anytime. And it is really not horror game - nothing scary about this. It looks like the creators were on drugs all the time they created story and gameplay. I bought it because of the good reviews, but I would rather not. If you like horror, then please go play horror game instead. No for this game from me.

Please describe what you liked or disliked about this product.

I liked it. A lot. The game is really entertaining from an "investigative" standpoint. It's a story based, single player game with psychological horror elements and I can't get enough. Really hope this company makes another one of these games. 10/10 will replay it.

I got very different emotions from this one, from admiration for the setting to sadness from the tag that technology raised more questions than it answered and allowed humanity to feel freedom. I am fascinated by the story and it really absorbed me, the curiosity inside me overcame the scary moments, it was a great time and I will definitely come back, I haven't opened it yet.

I liked Janus, but would have been so nice to have more characters besides him and people answering their doors.

The horror sequences were nauseating at times and not so enjoyable. However, all that said, the game redeems itself by the perfect visuals/atmosphere, captivating stories, and being so immersive, At times it felt like you are in one of the blade runner buildings, half expecting to run into John Isidore on his way to work, or when it gets really creepy, to be confronted by Roy Batty! This game needed some FPS parts for sure!

Also, very replay-able, as there are just so many floors/rooms to check out!

Now this is a what a cyberpunk game should be. Harsh and gritty with deep questions about the nature of conscious, and the ethics of augmentation. I really enjoyed that you play as a police investigator. The game starts off with you investigating a crime and interviewing the residents of an apartment building. Through this setting, the game introduces you to the plot piece by piece, as you get wrapped into a bizarre mystery. Highly recommended!

Best way I can describe this way is a "blue ball" experience.

By that, I mean to say, that it lacks real substance, in story and in gameplay. Atmosphere might be the leading attribute this game has, but that's about it.

Observer is a psycho crime cyberpunk experience blowing your mind.

Overall      ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10

Graphics   ★★★★★★★★☆☆ - 8/10
Gameplay ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10
Story         ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ - 7/10

Difficulty ★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (only few parts where you can die)

This game does take you on an awesome trip. I am not a cyberpunk style fan, but the crime topic and how the devs worked them out made me play the game. And I was well entertained. Though I do love the first part of the game more (more crime themend) the latter part changes more into a narrative mind twisting plot.

This game urgently cries out to go VR. The whole ride would be even more immerse. And most game mechanics and elements are already fitting perfectly for VR. Should be not too hard to implement. So if they bring out the VR version one day, I am up for another ride ;)

And, I absolutely loved the voice actor of Daniel. He was doing a fabulous job. Totally fitting in to the observer role.

Big Brother is watching you to make sure you play this game

If you are up for a dystopian cyberpunk adventure delving deep into the darkest corners of human psyche, Observer: System Redux is here to fulfill your dreams. Perfected with unbelievably artistic visuals and creative environmental details, this game will offer you an experience like no other. The characters’ life stories are engrossing, some of them containing extremely dark and disgusting topics that could as well be reality in the near future.

The gameplay is nice enough to keep you invested, varying from inspecting the gorgeous game world by using Daniel’s special abilities to interrogating tenants, finding collectibles and hacking into people’s minds. There are some stealth sections here and there involving a creepy enemy, but they’re no nightmare fuel. Still, I would say Observer: System Redux is the scariest Bloober Team title so far - the way it creates a constant sense of uneasiness is truly worth mentioning. The clunky controls irked me to some extent, because the protagonist’s slow reactions sometimes resulted in frustrating deaths, but they didn’t hurt the overall experience.

In a nutshell, Observer: System Redux is a great and entertaining horror game with some minor flaws in it. It’s that type of game where you must stop and marvel at the genius execution of the cyberpunk-themed work of art. The dream eater sequences might make you nauseous due to the overuse of flashing lights, but if you can stomach them, you are about to find yourself in one of the most memorable scifi-rides.

I had a great time with this game. I think I have finally built up a tolerance to Bloober Team's approach to horror to stay immersed the whole time, without getting so scared I had to take an earbud out and listen to something else while playing, and I am so glad that I did.

First, the presentation. The graphics, sound design, voice acting are very good, with the exception of some of the child voice actors. The art style is dark, dingy, and disgusting, just like a cyberpunk world aught to be, with crisp textures and beautiful high definition models throughout many different surreal settings. The sound design for activating items, using your inventory screen, and general environmental sounds all have a high, believable quality to them, as well as being well mixed with the rest of the game audio. The soundtrack is, for the most part, what I would call abstract music, but I think it fits the atmosphere the game is going for quite well.

Next, I want to talk about performance. I have fairly high end machine, and this game ran very well for most of the time. Jump scares, leaving the apartment building, and entering/exiting neural interrogations all caused my frames to drop around the 30 range, but that wasn't a very big deal. Overall, I would say Observer: System Redux preforms excellently for how it looks.

On to horror presentation and efficacy. Heavy spoilers in this paragraph, so skip ahead if you don't want some of the best (and worst) scares spoiled. For the most part, I really enjoy Bloober's style of horror: building an unsettling atmosphere with unreliable and impossible geometry, then paying it off with prolonged sequences of disturbing imagery. There are also jump scares, which really are hit and miss throughout this game. The absolute worst jump scare in the game is a bird. The player is simply walking through the halls of this dingy apartment building, when all of a sudden, a random pigeon just flies in your face with a really loud audio stinger. Nothing about that scare is difficult to pull off, it requires almost no craftsmanship. You just flashed something in my face really quickly while yelling. There is also a fantastic jump scare in the game [spoilers ahead]: I had a conversation with a religious tenant of the building, simply talking to him, then left after an abrupt end when he got uncomfortable talking to me. I went to a different part of the floor and started solving a puzzle when a deep growling sound started to emanate from somewhere in the building, and it set me on edge immediately. When I finished the puzzle, I started searching around for the source of the noise, and came to the door of the religious man I had just talked to. I tried to activate his "doorbell," but realized that the door was now unlocked. I reached for the handle, slowly pushed open the door, and a strange, inhuman face emerged from the darkness, growled, then slammed the door shut and locked it. It made me jump, and had been set up over the course of around seven minutes (at least in my case). I think the horror in this game is about 80% effective and well crafted, while the other 20% is either poorly crafted and effective, or poorly crafted and ineffective.

Gameplay is disappointing. Some might say it is unfair to compare this game to SOMA, but the mechanic of physically interacting with the items in the world is as old as the first Penumbra game. The items in the world can be picked up with one click, rotated with the mouse, and returned to the exact same location they were picked up from. It is an inspect tool, not an interact tool, which isn't strictly a bad thing, it is just strange that they would limit the player in this way. The doors and cabinets suffer from the same issue. The game doesn't move doors with the mouse, the mouse moving forward and back opens and closes doors, respectively (odd distinction, but you feel it once you play the game). There is an option to turn drawers and doors into a simple "click to activate," (which I didn't try out), but it would have helped tracking so much more if the system from Frictional's games had been implemented here. I found movement speed, both standing and crouched, to be perfectly fine, though there is a weird wiggle animation whenever rotating in place while crouched. The biggest issue the game has is when there is an enemy in the environment. This game has no idea how to handle a roaming enemy. The first time there is an enemy, as soon as you are tagged and die, when you reload, he has despawned for the rest of that area, not giving you another chance to try the challenge. This is abysmal. Make your players engage with your game mechanically, and again, if you want your players to be scared of dying but never die, make the enemy AI take precautions to lose the player if the player reacts fast and smart enough. While most of the gameplay in this game is walking, the few puzzles are typically pretty engaging, but pretty shallow. While I wouldn't call anything in this game mechanically complex, I will say that I loved the Flame and Sword: Spiders minigame. It was a treat of a brainteaser each time I got to a new terminal and was able to play the next level.

I found the writing of this game to be very compelling. It questions the value of human versus animal life, how corporations oppress the lower classes, and questioning what anyone can believe is real in a world that is so ingrained with digital falsehoods. The story is heavy with symbolism and intrigue, and manages to maintain relatively low stakes. There are a couple instances of plot armor, and the story can get very unclear with the heavy symbols that aren't elucidated until the end, but I found the writing of the main story and side investigations to be very compelling and thought-worthy.

The biggest gripe I have with this game is the heavy inspiration that it stylistically took from Blade Runner, without having any sort of acknowledgements or credit to this inspiration. This is in a very grey area between plagiarism and inspiration, and Bloober Team needs to start having an "inspired by" or something of the sort somewhere clearly presented to their players.

Overall, I had a good time with this game. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but to people who are a fan of Bloober Team's style of horror, or huge fans of the cyberpunk genre, this is absolutely a game I would recommend.

Also, play SOMA.

Cyberpunk-Horror given form. Observer: System Redux is the ultimate version of the already stellar Observer. A tribute to the genre, but also to Rutger Hauer(Roy Batty of Blade Runner).

+Absolutely beautiful graphical design, running flawless on the 6600xt with ray tracing.
+Sound design, from the soundtrack, ambience sounds, voice acting.
+Mini games were very enjoyable, helps keep the game grounded.
+Detective vision: 2 modes of scanning the environment and a night vision as well.
+Even though we're restricted to "The Stacks" for most of the game, i could only imagine what the whole city would be like!
+References to Blade Runner, P.T, Layers of Fear, and music inspired by Ghost in the Shell, Akira. To name a few!

-Scene transition stuttering could potentially result in either my game crashing( happened twice this playthrough.) Or getting stuck in the beginning of the checkpoint and having to re-load. Could be a DX12 issue not entirely sure.
-Some people may not enjoy the hide and seek dynamic, as it may interrupt the flow of gameplay for some.
-Some cheap jump scares here and there, Nothing too overwhelming though.

Overall beyond a few technical issues, Observer:System Redux is a Cyberpunk/ Horror masterpiece, incredible ambience, beautiful scenery, lighting and shadow effects, help set the tone for this dystopian part of the city. Rest in peace to Rutger Hauer, and thank you Bloober Team for making this incredible art.

Great game! You investigate a slum tenement building in the year 2084, full of crumbling cyber-infrastructure and strange characters who exist on the margins of society. Everything is "enhanced" with tech to the point of disorientation, and as a police "Observer" you have the ability to hack into peoples' minds, which results in surreal, nightmarish excursions deep into the psyche and subconscious. As you go door-to-door, exploring each floor of the building, solving puzzles and chasing mysteries, the game is like a sci-fi version of "Silent Hill" in many ways (minus the combat). The tech-nightmare world is also the best argument against transhumanism that I've ever seen.

Interesting premise and atmosphere, top notch environment design, but team Bloober as always falls short at the end. They really don't have anything interesting to say and mask their juvenile philosophies under a convoluted plot and feverish visuals layered over pretentious symbolism that is at times either obnoxiously vague or flatly on the nose. The last act was a drag and really exposed the game's core problem as a walking simulator through doors and corridors. Its only saving grace is that at least it wasn't pointlessly long and ended just as I got bored with it.

This game was a literal jaw-dropping experience. I loved my playthrough and I was absolutely lost in the world. My only complaint, which almost kept me from playing it several times was so many bugs that can stop you from progressing. Given the nature of this game you can't tell if it is the world being wacky or an actual glitch.

Someone told me this game was the underrated indie cyberpunk game of the year that got sidelined by, you guessed it, Cyberpunk 2077.

So I got into it, expecting a philosophical game about a cyberpunk dystopia, similar to Blade Runner. Instead I got a psychological thriller that takes place in a shitty neighborhood of the future.

Instead of a fun cyberpunk experience, this game gave me a headache, motion sickness, epilepsy, fear of the future, fear of tech, fear of cyberwerewolves and probably a reason to have nightmares today, all while staying true to the roots of the cyberpunk genre. In case you haven't noticed, yes, I'm talking about the good parts.

The art direction in this game is incredible and more creative than I could ever expect. It's definitely the best I've ever seen in a horror game, and might be one of the best in general.

You can experience the story of an Observer who winds up in a ghetto apartment complex where every single room is either filled with a different kind of psycho and try to solve a case of an inhumane serial killer.

It's the slowest game I have ever played, yet the lack of distinctive chapters, parts, objectives or any loading screens made it hard to quit the game at any point. Without realizing it, I spent 5 hours in the game in one sitting. Which is good, but then again, it also did give me a serious headache. Which brings us to the last point, that is something about this game that truly did not appeal to me.

While being the most creative dream sequences you can ever experience (they even include puzzles of different kinds when you least expect it) the excruciating nature, the sheer length, and the overall psychodelic effect of them makes it hard to get through on all points. I even thought of quitting the game entirely at 3 different points of those sequences. Considering I spent 5 hours of my night on this game while simultaneously thinking of ragequitting on several occasions, it feels like that's an amazing contrast.

Thankfully the building was filled with different type of mysteries that made me want to stay and explore them further until I got to the bottom of some stuff. Seriously, side quests were the saver of this game for me.

Bottom line: I know they provide lots of context for the story but I wish there was an option to shorten the Observing sequences that didn't include the puzzles or the dialogues. Other than that, it's an amazing game. Give it a try if you like cyberpunk dystopias and horror-mystery games. It's not everyday you see a game that's ballsy enough to explore all the horrors a cyber future can hold in small-scale environment.

I can see why this game would be appealing to some, and it's almost something I'd look forward to playing. Unfortunately, this game is extremely limited in ways that its fascinating story and creative aesthetic can't make up for. The more you play, the more "on rails" it feels. There are very few actual game "play" (or choice) moments to look forward to outside of picking up some meaningless clues and mini-games here and there.

It tries too hard to be deeply unsettling in a variety of ways, mostly missing the mark outside of the over-used glitchy, flashy, disorientating effect that they heavily rely on through-out. You will find yourself squinting, grimmacing, and wanting to look away as the migraine-inducing storm of shapes, sounds, and lights overwhelm your senses.

I don't know if the game ever opens up enough to be worth it for me, but the experience isn't good enough to waste any more of my time trying to find out. It seems to have a pretty good rating, so I guess people like it... if you're like them, I guess you'll like it too, but if you're like me and want a less constrained, investigative game with lots of options and actual puzzles, without being brought to the brink of a grand mal seizure, you should pass on this one.

I bought this game because I thought i was buying "The Witness". I was also less than sober. What it lacks in silly line puzzles, it more than makes up for with story telling, atmosphere, and suspense.

It will keep you busy for a few days and when you've cored out every secret you will put it away. Like most thrilling games, the magic is real only once.

A crappier SOMA.

There is a really good premise here; I LOVE the idea of being a detective who hardwires into victims and explore their mind either as they are awake or as they are dying. That sounds fantastic.

Unfortunately the way it's implemented is just not scary or immersive. You are essentially thrown into an on-the-rails modern abstract art gallery full of parlor tricks, and you are to derive meaning from things happening and figure out yourself what to make of what you see. Did you ever see The Cell? It's like that, but nearly zero disturbing elements and mostly just going down a linear path from A to B. Look at the trailer; there is a moment wherein a bunch of children with monitor-heads turn toward you. Does that scare you? OK, then buy the game. If it doesn't, then I would say pass-- at least if you are eyeing this game for horror. At no point was I ever scared, except for the WAY TOO MANY jump scares accompanied with ear-destroying mechanical stingers, they really just cheapened the experience.

Also what cheapens the experience is the half-assed models and assets. You interrogate people's apartments and see nothing but their eye(?) in the monitor on a loop... for some reason. There is one part of the game that would've been very powerful but is very much hamstrung by the fact you are talking to yet another monitor with a looped asset on it. There is no practical reason for that to be a thing in any world; why would you ever want to see a video of an eye in a peephole? It'd have been much better if they literally just had today's peephole experience; you just see a shadow block out the other side of the door.

Another thing that bothered me is just how bluntly this was inspired by Blade Runner down to the Vangelis-rip-off-music and the obvious choice of Rutger Hauer, who-- as much as I love the guy-- was very much phoning in his voicework. Compare this to his work done in the Alien Audiobook and he just sounds like he doesn't care.

tl;dr digital glitchy effects are not scary, and the story would've worked better had it done it in a more straightforward way and not just have nonstop abstracted environments.

I do not have a very good orientation sense. So obviously game which consists of endless wandering in a building where almost all locations look exactly the same was a pure hell. I spent 30 minutes with trying to find one stupid room in a basement without success, rage quit, deleted the game and never looked back.

Being an absolute must-play for every connoisseur of the cyberpunk genre, it's also one of the finest walking sims out there. Trippy, smart, sometimes funny and always dark. Includes a stellar performance from the legendary Rutger Hauer as the cherry on top.

Asher

i liked it. not an action game other than avoiding some creatures, but if you die you can continue playing.

futuristic, garbage, and old buildings abound, lots of corridors looking like a bomb hit recently. you work your way through discovering clues to the story. the ending was a surprise, but pretty good.

so i'd say it's not real hard, since i was able to finish it without assistance, and usually i need some help. but it wasn't simple either. overall, it was fun for me, and visually different and well done. controls were pretty easy. i found it entertaining at the least, with good graphics.

i'd give it 3 stars out of 5 and recommend it.

I enjoyed the game but It didnt really make any sense to me, i finished the game in confusion. I might have to play it a second time, or look up a goof synopsis. Maybe it was my audio settings but it was also hard to catch a lot of dialogue, some subtitles could be a good thing in the future.

Once again though the visuals in this game were wonderful, I really liked the puzzle/maze in the foggy forest too.

Getting Framedrops on my 3080 Ti when turning around with Raytracing on.. suddenly drops from 165 FPS to under 60 FPS with stuttering... DLSS didnt help...

There should be an additional Mouse Sens Slider for the Objects you can move with your mouse (would add some QoL), im playing with around 400 DPI and i have to pull the mouse over the whole mousepad 3 times... thats more a personal problem..

From the first minutes into it looks very great from the visuals, i like the setting... but from the mentioned points above and the reviews telling its more a walking sim, its not for me

Still recommending because i can't actually tell if its good or bad besides the in my opinion negative points above

THERE IS NO I IN COLLABORETON
THERE IS NO I …

Visuals and audio are absolutely stunning and presentation is mind blowing

Biggest negative for me is that most of the game plays like a dream instead of something grounded. Also, plenty of jumpscares

Beware that the game is mostly a walking simulator.

Experience is still great and will stay with you. Overall recommended

Astoundingly disturbing, extremely philosophical. A filthy look at the harshest of cyberpunk, told through the minds of residents in a run down C-Class tenement building. Very tense, very symbolic, well-told, with an amazing dream-eating bit that takes you into the minds of certain characters to experience their stories and emotions. Rest in Peace, Rutger Hauer. 5 out of 5.

Game was pretty interesting, and was a wild ride with tons of visuals that seemed warped, and crazy. Had some horror elements to it as well, and the story was very interesting, though sometimes hard to follow. My only negatives was that sometimes the gimmicks of being inside a mind lasted longer than i had liked, and the ending could of been better. But i liked it. 8/10.

What an amazing journey!

Observer has definitely left it's mark on my memory as one of the best games I have ever played.

The atmosphere and environment sucks you right into a dystopian cyberpunk world, where you are faced with intriguing and often horrifying encounters and choices to make. It would seem Sherlock Holmes was having an affair with Cyberpunk and Observer is that bastard child that flourished in life, becoming a hidden gem among the masses.

I can easily rate this game as a 10 and would definitely recommend this!

I guess this could have been a great game but at some point a white computer screen (in the game) prevented my to continue so I had to reload an older check point. Sadly this one was two days old. So, too buggy from my point of view. Stupid that the devs did not fix such a bug after more than one year.

Mariosition

For a game in which one of the main aspects is delving into the unconsciousness of people, that main aspect fell extremely flat. I went into the game expecting that there going to be memorable moments and puzzles to figure out by utilizing the detective brain of the MC. However, those stages ended up being nothing more than mindless meandering and walking without much interaction to them. I suppose it should've been obvious that's all there was to it since the title is called Observer, but these dream exploration moments turned out to be the most uninteresting and mundane parts of the game.

Drunken Sailor

The game is really good maybe the best cybertype game, well is it worth buying it? well yes especially if you like futuristic stuff an shit, now before i go to some requests if a sequel happens {pls devs} i want to mention to the people who read this PLAY THE SIDEQUESTS DO NOT SKIP THE SIDEQUEST. Ok now lets talk about some things a sequel to the game could improve. 1 make the sidequests a part of the story dont make em 'side' quest. 2 give the players the option to have an indicator or something like the bioshock infinite where you press a button and a arrow appears for some seconds. 3 maybe expand the lore of he game? i mean we saw how the people from the C class live, now maybe we can see how the people of the class B and A live like.

edit: add more minigames on the computer bruh .

tl;dr: It's a very pretty, ambitious and well-put together game that simply wasn't to my taste.

While the game is extremely pretty (even if everything is disgusting/ugly/dirty) and there is a really strong sense of art direction that is to be commended, I mostly found this game an exercise in frustration. Perhaps the biggest problem the game has is that it is distressingly common for prompts to continue gameplay to be hard to spot: a small white reticle that may only appear on an already viewed object AFTER an arbitrary point is reached, easily missed on another sweep or due to frequent (deliberate) glitches in the players POV/position. It doesn't help that the game also wants you to frequently be switching between vision modes (and doesn't tell you that you have night vision until 80% of the way through the game, unless I missed it earlier?) that can turn a lot of the high fidelity graphics into a murky red or green fog that also makes it harder to spot prompts.

Rutger Hauer (RIP) as the titular Observer, Lazarski, doesn't phone it in, but nor does he give a particularly fired up/notable performance. Voice acting wise, he sounds old and tired which works in character, but it means he lacks a certain urgency or emotional investment in a lot of what he says or how he reacts to events. The climax of the game really falls flat because of this, and in an odd way it is mirrored by how the character moves in game as well: at best you can move at a brisk walking pace and usually you're just kind of meandering your way about, which makes some of the larger levels a bit of a chore to navigate: an incredibly brief section of the game where suddenly somebody you are controlling can run just makes the slow pace stand out more. It is presumably deliberate, to allow you to really drink in the atmosphere or to build tension, but for me it just kind of got frustrating.

The game doesn't really explain much about the setting, which to be fair some players may find laudable/preferable to exposition dumps. You're just kind of dumped into the world, never really get more than brief glimpses of the wider society and even less of the history of how it came to be. The game is NOT uplifting, seemingly deliberately so based on a note from the developers at the end of the game, and that in turn added to my frustration as the "best" ending of the game is a real downer and kind of miserable. With a bunch of collectables thrown in for no real reason, a ton of interactivity in the environment that doesn't really seem to serve any purpose beyond the interaction itself, this very much feels like it probably should be or wanted to be a VR game but just wasn't.

It's very much a style over substance game, and the plot is kind of ridiculous, but there was still a lot of enjoyable moments in the game, mostly around Lazarski investigating cases unrelated to the main one. There was a ton of potential in this game, I personally don't think it was realised but that just may be my own personal taste, I'm sure there is plenty here that others might enjoy.

This game man, holy shit. I was first recommended it with the pitch that it was the closest thing to the vision of cyberpunk laid out in Blade Runner and while I don't think that's necessarily accurate I will say I think it adopts the aesthetic perfectly. The story constantly kept me guessing and I know I'm gonna need more playthroughs to fully grasp what happened. This has quickly become one of my favorite games and I look forward to whatever Bloober releases next and will have to check out some more of their games!

Adidas

If this as about a man and hotel, the matrix is about a man and a pill.

I'm in my 40's and I maintaining the 'walking simulator' group and I played dozens, if not hundreds of games in this genre.

This game exceeded all my expectations. So much so, it may have become my favorite game of all time alongside Detroit: Becoming Human.

Purely from a technical perspective, this is an absolute marvel. The videos do not do it justice as my RTX 2080 and i9900K were able to reproduce it in ultra at 70fps, and I must say this is likely the future of video game graphics - if not its leading edge.

The story is harsh, dystopian and in many occasion, extremely violent. This is NOT a game for children as it addresses themes that are extremely mature. The devs left a message at the end of the game specifying it was their intention to be 'brutal' - well mission accomplished. I never played something quite like that.

Another special mention goes to the sound. It's incredibly well designed. I played it over an Edifier set of speakers and was blown away by the immersion it added.

Then there's the attention to detail. This is a game where everything 'flows' logically, Every item behaves as you would expect. When something blows up, the lights reflact on the shattered, flying glass and the physics engine is by far the best I've ever had the chance to play - and I have been a steam member for over 15 years.

It's incredible, it's visually stunning, it's a marvel of storytelling and it's the most brutal game you'll ever play.

It's about a man and a hotel.

10/10 - a must buy for any gamer.

Terrifying. It is as much entertainment as it is a horrible glimpse into what technology can do, especially when abused. +Excellent story.
+ Chilling game play.
+ Voice acting was interesting and unique to each character.
+ The dark themes explored the human psyche in new ways: Orwell's 1984 of Big Brother (Chiron Corp), Medical Ethics and technology (i.e. human augmentation and experimentation), disease/pandemic (fear mongering and confusion), mental illness, drug abuse, etc.

Storyline: 10/10
Voice over: 9/10 (sometimes the lead character's pacing was too slow)
Scenery: 10/10
Replayability: Good
Sound/Music/FX: 10/10

I haven't decided yet whether this game is frightfully beautiful or beautifully frightening. But i am definitely sure that it's masterfully crafted story dragging you into future post war world where technologies allow plugging in other peoples minds to live they memories, to fell they fears till point when you can barely distinguish reality from inner worlds that you visited. Gloomy, harsh, mesmerizing, mind-boggling, trippy - the cyberpunk game at its best.

I played the original Observer when I was deep in alcohol abuse. The game was a huge part of my life during that time, even though I'm not proud of that time at all. The alcohol helped me get through the scares, but it also had my head all scrambled up about what was going on by the end of the game. (ironic, considering the whole story of the game is about your mind being f'd.)
I've come out of my alcohol abuse and have had Redux in my library for some time, but I didn't have the guts to get into the scares without my drunkeness to lean on. This week, I decided to test out Remote Play on my phone and I used Redux for this. I suddenly found myself engaged in the story again, wanting to explore the building that I felt like I knew so well and before I realised it, I was hooked again.

I just finished the game while writing this. It feels like achievement in itself to be able to get through this with a sober mind. I've always called Observer my favourite game and that has not changed. If anything, I love it even more now that I understand the story better.

All of this being said, I gotta be honest and say that I was a little disappointed with the new interrogation sequences. I had fun finding the love letters from the guy who loved the building, but his conclusion was such a let down. Although, I was really happy with "It runs in the Family". I remember crouching down and seeing the guy who'd hung himself behind the doors you couldn't get through in the first game. Finally being able to know what his story was, was really cool! Lastly, The sex bot story was cool too, but my jumpscare in the basement was ruined because I turned on my night vision when I entered the room. It might have been more effective to have had the bot turn around when I opened the door. The bot in the closet got me good though, f you for that!

I continue to reserve a special place in my heart for this game. It's my all times favourite game. The imagery in this game continues to leave me breathless and the stories of the characters takes me on a rollercoaster of emotions that I don't want to leave.

The game was far more thought-provoking than scary although I was fine with that. The plot was compelling, the story was interesting and deserved to be told and listened to. The game was more of an interactive novel of sorts than any sort of true open-world detective game.

The detective mechanics were very basic and each case was fairly easily solved. I found myself contemplating the ethics of cybernetic augmentation, AI, and virtual reality, as well as the possible inevitable drive of society in that direction, with the various implications such developments will have due to class stratification as it pertains to those who are already wealthy and are positioned to take advantage of the opportunities for early exploitation of augmentation. The game is entertaining but it is ultimately more of something that makes you think, raises questions, leaves some questions unanswered, and sends you away in a contemplative state of mind as you realize that the recent development and current direction of technological progress is likely trending in an authoritarian, autocratic, and frankly dystopian direction. I would recommend the game with the disclaimer that while it will make you think it won't really scare you unless you scare very easily. The game was enjoyable, thought-provoking, interesting, unique, but it was not scary and it was not particularly challenging.

Note that by profession I am a lawyer and I don't mind something that leaves many questions unanswered and sparks a variety of new questions on matters of ethics and other aspects of theoretical thought or questions about who we are, the nature of being, who we are becoming, and the differences between being and becoming.

Observer: System Redux is easily one of the finest games that I know.
An uncanny combination of societal decay, cramped ghettos, mega-corporations treating people like livestock, a dystopian level of wealth gap, and the age old question "what is reality?".

The game scratches open some uncomfortable questions, all while looking just incredible.
It's a horror game that is horrifying in what an alternate reality - or perhaps the future - might look like.
And it excels at that.

It's a journey through-out.

Really fucking amazing game, wow

it has some puzzle elements and some remembering, but the character repeats those so tose are too easy, the game ran at 120fps+ on my GTX1070 with a Ryzen 7 2700X and it looks fucking amazing (everything max, of corse) BUT in some parts in the distance sometimes you could see the world pop out and in, that's how they got this high fps

now for the story, it was really good, one thing i am weirded out by is the monster that killed everyone is you? and than when you wnt in to his head, who's head is that? idk so that dosen't really make sense for me, other than that i loved the story, the intro to the game is just you sitting in your car for 5 mins, other than that it's mostly gameplay story telling

it took 6.1 hours, bit short for an i think AA game (with these graphics it could be an AAA game), i didn't go 100% but i did do some side missionsk, and it's also short because it takes place just in one location, but super well executed

is it worth it? yes, loved it

A great gritty old cop game in a cyberpunk dystopian setting.
The 'walking simulator'-y part of the game is well balanced, so that it provides enough space to explore and take stuff in, without becoming boring. There is a lot of psychedelic imagery mixed into the cyberpunk foundation, and it works rather well.

A unique system of cycling through vision types (bit like Predator in the original AvP) in order to gather clues is fun to use, and satisfactory.

VA for all dialogues is a plus, and helps immersion.

Poland has been putting out seriously good games, and for me, this is one of them.

I like this game. The ambiance is amazing and everything looks great.

Thing about Bloober in my opinion is that they make awesome walking simulators. They do the environmental story telling, and the exploration, and the secret seeking, and the all that jazz really well.

That being said, so far all the "gameplay" sections they've implemented on their games feel forced, to me.
But still, looks like at least those sections are very bearable on this System Redux version.

I do hope that in the future they either rethink and improve said "gameplay" - or at least keep it optional like in Layers of Fear 2.

I will replay it and I give this game a 7.5/10.

I feel this game does a much better job of artistically capturing the Cyberpunk genre than some other well known titles. It's relatively slow paced, adventure and exploration, not faced paced first-person-shooter. Attention to detail by the player is rewarded and the atmosphere is great. The player should be prepared for a series of character interviews in the game, as they're in a role similar to a detective. There's a lot of walking to navigate the setting that the story takes place in, but you still never know what to expect around the next corner. There are also a series of small but challenging mini-games.

My only complaint 3 hours into the game is that the mini-game music isn't my favorite, and is on the "SFX" track, not the "MUSIC" track, so it's hard to turn down without losing other sounds.

Entertaining, a bit like movie: "walk and click game".
Atmospheric and stylish, but the puzzles and the conversations are a bit dum -
I mean, in a good detective game, your interrogation skills should matter.
I also found the 50's future apartment building with futuristic augments a bit disgusting, shouldn't it rather have a new integrated building design..

Conclusion:
If you want to be entertained without thinking too much: Play the game!
If you like to solve puzzles yourself, DON'T!
I barely found this game worthy of my time..

For me, I've only played "cyberpunk" games that take place in a futuristic world but the stories and the quests themselves are merely regular shoot-em-up action games with beeps and boops inserted here and there. But Observer immerses you in a dystopian future, every quest is eerie and electric, and I rarely found myself confused about what world Daniel is living in. The voice acting is sensational, the graphics are gorgeous, and the game itself is a masterpiece. Of course, that's just my opinion. But I can say for sure that this is one of the best gaming purchases I've made.

If you're looking for a causal, relaxed, compelling and story rich experience, don't sleep on this incredible game.

What a crazy experience about this kinda dark and dystopian Cyberpunk world! If you just look for an entertainment. This game is great for you. But if you're more than that. This one will bring a novel experience you'll never forget.

Give it a try.

I really enjoyed this game. It was so creatively different than most other games I have played, and had the sense of mystery, escape, just the right amount of terror, and a story line that kept me wanting to finish.

There were times in the game that I felt could have had less obvious clues to the next location, and other times where it felt like I didn't have a clue what to do next. It seemed a little off balance in this respect.

Otherwise, the atmosphere is a bit on the creepy side, (obviously by design) and overall it was quite an interesting and fun game experience.

This game is a hidden gem. There are occasional bugs and frame drops but the game play holds up that I'm willing to look past them. Graphics and soundtrack are incredible. Recommended!

Misleading tags, but enjoyable

Was looking for a good horror game, and purchased it when it was on sale. First of all this isn't really a horror game but a walking simulator with an interesting story. And that's the great part. The story is solid and has great turns and twists. The dialog is well written and the characters are mostly great. However game-play wise, the game falls a bit flat for me. There a several mechanics introduced, however they aren't implemented a lot. For example, I found myself scanning so much of the game, but there was mostly little to no places where you were supposed to scan. Also I think I only used night vision once for 2 seconds during my entire playtrough, not to mention the "hacking tool" which isn't really challenging and used maybe 3 times. The last part of the game is great, but it is over so quickly, leaving me personally unfulfilled craving more. And that is this game in a nutshell, very good but ultimately leaving you wanting more, which is usually a good thing, but not really in this case. There is a lot of good stuff here, but aside from the story, it doesn't find its potential. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I knew what I was getting into, the tags personally for me set my expectations to a completely different place.

TL;DR

This is a great walking simulator with a horror elements and a solid story that ultimately unfortunately leaves you feeling unfulfilled and wanting more. 6/10

Boredom simulator with a touch of cyberpunk.
I mean, if it was going for immersive, which I think is what they intended, for some reason it didn't get me.
Couldn't really pinpoint what I disliked about it, but can't really highlight any high points in particular either.
As a fan of cyberpunk, I was immediately sold on the game trailer.
First part of the game was awesome too. But halfway through it kinda lost me. It just got boring and repetitive and I was already dreading the 'connecting' to people bit, because the dream/fear exploration part, while trippy and cool, I felt it was insanely tedious. I soon got very, very bored with it.
Dunno, it may have been just me. I know a lot of people really enjoyed it.
But for some reason, even though I tried, I couldn't quite bring myself to like it.

The game itself is very interesting if you like playing a detective in a cyberpunk universe.

Sadly the game is pretty bad optimized for the PC. Pretty often the framerare drops very heavily which is really annoying. It happenns on Low and High settings.
The movement is very clunky. You will get stuck in doors or on other objects often.

If the develipers fix this problem I would give a recommendation to buy this game.

I simply never played a worse optimized game.

The game is pretty much a walking simulator. This can be a hit or a miss for me. Personally, it was a miss. There are moments where the game drags out, no real detective work involved, and overall just a disturbing dystopia that will grow dull after a few moments. I want to play it a bit more to see if maybe there's more to the game, but it failed to suck me in like it did for so many other players so I don't see myself replaying this game.

If you liked the other Bloober games (Layers of Fear, The Medium), then this game is right up your alley. It's primarily a walking simulator with a number of puzzles and horror elements set in a Cyberpunk universe. Lots of Blade Runner atmosphere in this one, so if that sounds appealing to you, then you will enjoy this game. I'd say the biggest drawback to this game is there's a couple of parts where I really struggled to make progress on my own (without looking up a guide online) and I felt it was unnecessarily obfuscasted/confusing to make progress. You also need a really good PC to run this at high settings, so the performance isn't great. The original (non Redux version) ran a fair bit better.

Occasional puzzles and 3 sequences (~30min of the 9h) are the only thing about this game that isn't a pure walking sim. BUT... The Story is amazing; The Music is glorious; The Voice acting is fantastic, and they perfectly hit the classic cyberpunk tone/mood and mixed it with horror in a way that is beyond beautiful. The writing in this game is so good that you will likely want to read every single one of the numerous Newspaper articles and e-mails you will find throughout this game.

One of my favourite games of all time, there is no question for me that this is worth the full price. Oh and multiple choices with different outcomes also add a lot to the re-playability.

Product received for free (if I remember correctly), because I had the non-remastered version... but that was 2 years ago so I don't quite remember

System Redux has been my first introduction to Observer, and it has been a largely positive one. The game looks and sounds quite good, and the story is interesting. There's even some decent twists and turns as the story progresses, leading to a couple of choices that don't have obvious consequences (the consequences are, perhaps, even subversive.

By far the weakest part of the game would be the stealth sections. I understand that these have been improved from the original version of the game, and there are relatively few of them, but if I had my way I would get rid of them completely. It is quite strange that this trippy noir game that is comprised primarily of detective work has a few discrete sections where stealth is required, and failure to do so results in game over screens. These are the only places in the game that I am aware of that have failure states, and I feel that the game would be stronger without fail states altogether. Playing an ageing detective while a murderer is on the loose in "the stacks" in 208x is enough of a thrill. I don't need forced fail states or stealth gameplay.

I've been on a bit of a cyberpunk binge lately, and this game was a nice way to continue to scratch that itch. I'm a big fan of how the game takes a more narrow slice of the cyberpunk aesthetic, and thoroughly explores it. There's something poetic about seeing towering neon skyscrapers in the sky, and knowing that you won't be able to reach them. Instead you'll continue to explore a decaying "class C" apartment complex haunted by neglect and the ravages of time. I do wish that some of the conversations with tenants were less shallow though: I would love to see a more Cloudpunk-inspired take on these conversations.

Overall, I think Observer is a great pick for someone looking for a 7-10 hour, story-focued game that is (relatively) streamlined and without combat. It's definitely different from most games that I've played lately, and that's a good thing.

It is a must to play it. Thanks for this incredible dystopian game Bloober team.

I gotta say, that the best part of the game, the one that I enjoyed the most, was the exploration of the appartment complex and the stories behind the tenants. LOVED IT!

Do not misunderstand me, the main story is also great.

The sounds were increible, btw.

Thanks again Bloober team for this incredible experience!

This game is an incredible case study on what makes someone human. Just starting off you meat Janus, whom is clouded of thoughts barely capable of making coherent sentences. The rebuilding of him after his injuries, has definitely taken a toll, and whats left is the half built husk and broken mind of what once was a man but now could be considered less than. (I love that roman god) It gives you an ultimatum and it took me a solid 2 minutes contemplating the gravity of the answer. It has the main story line and small little cases that you figure out by, you guessed it, investigating. I had one gameplay glitch, but I couldn't tell because of how the game is, so I was just slowly falling outside the boundaries. I have to urge everyone to at least watch the storyline on youtube, but even better, to play it for yourself.
