I cannot recommend this game. I have tried for months to get through it, but there is so much holding this game back from being a truly great JRPG...

Let's start with the movement, I had to install a run speed mod, it is that slow. The camera is so bad that I was getting motion sickness everytime I used Luffy's grapple. Then there is the combat, it is a cool design, but it falls short of easy enemies and using one move over others because it does the same thing but with more damage. It gets so repetitive and so boring.. I am 3 acts in and don't have any outfits unlocked, crafting is slow, side quests are almost all fetch quests and you spend so long in Alabasta just to return to the real world to do generic sand temple with mirror puzzles. There is no Oda level creativity found in this game, it is predictable and so slow I am uninstalling and can't encourage myself to play anymore.

Tricky recommendation. I think if you are a big One Piece fan and you like turn based JRPGs (like the Persona games) this game can be enjoyed. That being said, I hoped this game had some of the charm of the previous open-world adventure, like Unlimited Adventure, and that spark just isn't there. There are plenty of small things that make this game feel like a drag, like the pacing and unnecessary running around, but I would still recommend it if you can get it on sale and want to have some fun with the cast of One Piece.

Another fantastic One Piece game. However, unlike other One Piece games, this game presently has the lowest discount and does not have the Sun God Nika, as opposed to Pirate Warriors 4. Nonetheless, I still highly recommend this game because you can explore the vast map of Alabasta, Water 7, and Dressrosa.

The game also features excellent character details and graphics, you will be able to check out Going Merry within the game, and special skills are fun to watch. The game also employs rock-paper-scissors gameplay, with Attack Types such as Power defeating Speed, Speed defeating Technique, and Technique defeating Power.

This is my first steam review but I felt like I had to say something...
Don't buy this game. I'm a huge fan of RPG's and I fancy myself a achievement hunter/trophy hunter.
I thought I would get into the One Piece craze by starting this game and also starting the anime.
First of all, lets start with the pros.

Pros: Graphics, Music and some of the humor and writing.

Cons: Linear as the straightest line ever drawn. The game holds your hand horribly. Once, I saw a treasure within my grasp and tried to get it, only to be turned around by my party and told to keep moving forward.
It also has a stupidly hard jump in difficulty in the endgame. I was sometimes 30+ levels above where I should be with the best accessories equipped and I was doing scratch damage to the bosses while they were taking off chunks of 66% health per swipe.
Sorry, I may be old school but when you are over leveled with the best gear, you should be gum-guming people to the moon.
This game almost made me at one point think about never playing RPG's again. That's how fatiguing it was.
Check my play time. I did 100% of the game. It took me about a month to get through.

TLDR; Nice graphics good music but the game gets so boring and hard that you want to stop gaming.

Nero

Pretty boring. The only redeeming features of this game are the combat and the reimagining of main events, such as the Alabasta arc. Beyond that, there are no significant interactions within the group, a poor storyline, annoying music, and tedious exploration gameplay.

Overall very positive experience.
You navigate through open areas and find items, food, and cubes to begin crafting, cooking and increasing the strengths of each of the Straw Hats. There is a level of fun to this because you can make them powerful enough to wipe enemies at a whim. There are a lot of puzzles you must solve to get through locations if you're good with those.
If you're a fan of the series, don't expect a 1-for-1 match to the manga and anime, it takes you to very familiar places and experiences from the series but utilizes them for a different reason(s). It is nice to revisit old stories and meet with familiar faces once again.
If you're unfamiliar or not heavily invested in the original manga and anime and just want to see what's up, this is a great start to get you to invest your time into the series.
Character movement speed feels a little slow and some camera angle issues when navigating through small entrances as Chopper do happen, but it doesn't take away from the overall experience too much.

FINALLY got to the point of the game where i feel like i can review this better.

so the real game doesn't start till you enter the first memory world. i was running around waford (the hub island) killing things to try and break the game and be over leveled as shit but it turns out that the game can do whatever it wants levels mean nothing but number go up once you enter the memory worlds the enemies seem to level with you so i dont think ill be one shotting Crocodile.

this game is a massive double edged sword, on one hand it feels like a one piece movie but playable, on the other hand......everyone will not.... SHUT UP! i get there are story points that i love because it's totally like a movie but then they talk while im walking they talk while im fighting they talk talk talk and i cant open the menu to heal or level up because they are TALKING and it's not even anything important they just talk to talk and banter and it wouldn't be so bad if they let me interrupt it but they lock the menus while they talk till they are done, same with after you win a fight or just enter a fight talk talk talk.

also i have no idea what keeps healing me and giving me full TP (the mana of the game to use special powers) but i have been grinding levels to keep testing if i can break the game and be so OP that nothing can touch me and i never need to heal like ever.

This game gets a bit more hate than i feel deserved. Yes there are some things that aren't perfect about this game, i can agree with other people that it is a pretty linear game. For the most part though, if you are a true One Piece fan, i think you will really enjoy the game.

Gokami

I may change my mind heres hoping it gets better. So far this game gets worse the longer i play it. The visuals are astonishing but that's all it has going for it so far the story isn't engaging enough to make up for the lack luster game design.

Hello I love this game but please tell me how I could beat the Sandora Dragon I have tried more than 8 times and used all of my health supplies but please tell me How I could beat the Sandora Dragon whenever I hit it with an attack it only attacks 1 health from them and then it gives them 26 more health please help.

You play as Luffy, a rubber man with the ability to bounce and rocket through the sky so obviously you must slowly walk across giant maps between boring fights and be thwarted by your greatest nemesis - waist high fences. Combat is boring and easy even among turn based game and traversal will make you want to pull out your hair. Does not capture the feeling of being the titular characters inside of combat or travelling the world.

Its a very great game. the story so far is well thought out and feels like your playing through a one piece movie, the game looks great, runs great..i havent had any issues. i liked this game so much i tried a repack and then bougght the game not long after. if you have ever played a one piece game before...this one blows them out of the water.

reliving the different arcs but playing out a little different is pretty neat.

If I could, I would have given this game somewhere between a yes and a no on the recommendation. While I'm not going to completely condemn the game, there is a lot left to be desired.

PROS:
- The story is actually kind of fun. You get to go through some of the Straw Hats greatest adventures by reliving them as a memory. It's a way of going through past stories and not needing the stories to perfectly match the ones from the Manga/Anime.
- Interaction between the crew and with old allies is enjoyable as always.

CONS:
- Traveling around the world isn't too bad the first time, but after that it gets soooooooooooo boring. And you constantly have to travel back and forth because every quest seems to want you to go to the farthest place possible to pick something up and return it.
- Continuing the con about traveling is Fast Travel. It there but it is very limited on where you can fast travel too and each time you travel you have to sit there for 10 seconds as a yellow monkey waves at you before you can start moving.
- Combat is another issue. It was fun to watch the skill animations the first time around, but soon it felt like the animations were all too long and it just made combat drag on and on. Even with the fast forward option for combat, it takes forever to finish a move.
- Skills themselves. A few of the characters have quick a few skills for them to use, but honestly there's no reason to use 90% of them. Rarely do the different skills for a character have anything unique about them aside from the animation. Like two of Zoro's skills, they only hit 1 target, they do basically the same amount of damage, they don't add any additional status effects, the only different is the TP cost.

If you're a fan of the show, you'll probably enjoy the story and the character interactions. However, if you're looking for a great game, then this isn't for you.

i love one piece, but this game is boring af, the story is just revisiting old arc, not original at all, im a fan of turn base game like persona, shin megami tensei, old scholl final fantasy etc, but this game, even the turn base combat is just booring af, just buy this game when it's on sale, its not worth full price, or just play pirate warrior, now that one is a masterpiece

It's a fun game. It made me want to catch up on One Piece so I don't get spoiled.

The combat is alright even if it is a tad too easy, I didn't get much into the story because I didn't want to get spoiled. I wish the Demo was also available on PC.

Having watched the series granted I've only just hit the 2 year skip in the show
Currently watching 540 something episode

Honestly this game brings back so many memories of the show when trying to get the strawhats power level back through the cubes

You love the manga or anime by shonen then you'll love to play this game as it takes place after the 2 year skip (between episodes 516 and 517 of the anime) get to see alot of fan favourite characters through the memories or outside of the memories.

I'm quiet mixed when it comes to this game, but willing to lean more in the positive direction. It's a nice breathe of fresh air to have turn based combat in a game again, and with the the One Piece franchise.

The story is okay and whilst the combat is initially extremely fun and very diverse in the character's movesets, i felt that the game is too easy. I was able to kill most bosses in two turns and one shot every normal enemy. This caused severe burnout by the end of the game since combat itself wasn't engaging.

It also suffers from really boring side quests (Collect X amount of items from around town, talk to X person in a different area) Nothing fun, engaging or felt like a side story. It had 0 impact or benefit to being implemented, you get little experience from them and no unique items.

There was a lot of love put into this game and I overall had a positive experience.

Havixx The First
Havixx The First

Main game is interesting, DLC a bit less so, but if you want 100% achies you need to buy and play the DLC (Not end of the world)

There are also some really weird grammatical errors, at least in the DLC. I don't remember these being in the main game when first I played it. Whether this is some lazy work, done by AI, or some woke bullshit, I don't know. Basically everyone is just "They" for example, really makes no sense.

The game itself is relatively easy, even as a player hoping for more 3d-action-rpg games, like World Seeker but maybe a bit better, that is more my type of game. I am a big noob on these kinds of turn based things but I could mostly stomp every fight until the later game, it felt like I was playing on easy mode and wished I had a way to turn it past normal and up to hard, but no such setting existed.

So play it for the story and not for the challenge, and if you do not care for achievements maybe just ignore DLC.

This game is an amazing choice if your a fan of one piece and turn based fighting styles
i personally think this game should win steam awards for its amazing open world game play and story

In short: Nice graphics, nice dub, terrible pacing.

I love One Piece, I've been consuming One Piece media for decades and decided to buy this game even though its expensive.
The graphics are amazing and the dub is really good, the gameplay is cool and they inovate as much as they can since its hard to make turn-based jrpgs unique. However, this game has a massive flaw a HUGE disappointment that cant be ignored: terrible pacing.

As soon as you finish the first stage that feels like a tutorial, you will be surprised by how big the map is, however, due to pacing you have little to no freedom in exploring anything. There are SO MUCH cutscenes that even novel-like games has more gameplay time than this game.

It works like this: walk to a point - cutscene - defeat the enemy - cutscene - walk foward for 15 seconds - cutscene - enter a new room - loading time - cutscene - walk foward a little bit - cutscene

The game is always stopping, it cuts your adrenaline, it really ruins your experience, there is no way to avoid it, you have almost no freedom when it comes to cutscenes ruining your experience, somtimes you want to walk all to the right to open a chest that you found but the area that triggers the cutscenes are so big that you most likely will not be able to, you will have to watch the cutscene.

There are some little flaws that even though arent a big deal by itself, they still annoy you a little, for example, Luffy is not able to walk on small walls or jump from a sidewalk that is slighty above from the street. Even though the map gives you a "open map rpg" feeling, the invisible walls are everywhere, its so weird to see Luffy ignoring a 3 meter ladder by jumping to the top directly and then being stuck by a invisible wall when you try to jump fences; if you're on the sidewalk and want to go back to the street, you cant jump fences you have to walk back from where you came, its really weird.

I dont recommend this game due to its price.

Even though this game was on development for 5 years (before Jimbei joined the crew officially). Having Jimbei be popped up as part of the crew in the next game will be stale already when its taken serious to the source material, if Oda ever decides to continue what Odyssey does with the direction of story, concept, and etc. I would have let it go with this one if it had unique clothing and more unique story (I was told the story gets better, but think about the hours that need to be sank in in order to get to that). It kills me so hard that I have to further wait x amount of years more just to have my waifu Yamato to be in the next game, but at NON-DLC! Pirate warriors 4 don't count. And yes I am aware that Oda was the one that planned and partake in this.

This game is just a rinse and repeat on going back and forth to areas. Which became way too tedious, even for a dedicated One Piece fan myself. Who had watched Film Red 20 times at theaters and contributed around 200 tickets to the box office. (I'm for real). So let this sink in..... in order to get the next high quality One Piece game, while it clearly needs one badly already. But it's not like how One Piece unlimited Adventure, and One Piece unlimited cruise had. It felt like this game was released 10 years ago. The fishman island outfits for whatever reason Bandai decided it... which part of it ruins the experience, they should've made an unlockable for Yamatos clothing for each crew to be honest.

I already finished the Alabasta arc (apparently the worst arc so far according to people), and the rewards I get after it were just abilities/moves I recovered with new basic animation attacks. Truly unsatisfying. The grind is not worth it, because if you had already watched/read the anime/manga, theres no need to, its just filler while butchering it. Should've compensated me with Nami or Robin fanservices. Better yet, a secret unlock of Yamato's fanservice.

Just please bring Yamato to the next OP game.... even if it has to be a unique story... Just somehow force her in it please.
WHERES THE ARMPIT GODDESS?!?!

In short, it's a high budget game, with very poor story, and the gameplay is rather mediocre or worse to me (I haven't played enough JRPG's).

from what i've played so far halfway through alabasta
a lot of this game relies on you having watched a good portion of one piece to understand the deep dark bits and other references (and I mean after the timeskip). if you are a die-hard fan, you'll most likely love it, but if you just started watching the show and you are living your best life with the East Blue arc, would not recommend playing if you dont want spoilers

open world
this game doesn't really feel open-world (in my opinion). I get that many people see it as 'oh you have to travel long distances and pick up randomly scattered items so it's open world', but I disagree. theres not enough to do if it is considered open world. think (and i know this is painful, but stay with me) genshin. anything you can see, you can interact with/touch. with opo, there is an extremely specific path you have to stay on, and don't get to do much else. personally, I don't like this half open-world-but-also-not type of style, but it's one piece so yk i have to get play it.
If you do not like having to travel manually, with little to no fast travel points, this might not be your favorite. this reminds me a lot of the naruto u.n. storm games (w/ a differnt battle system). (i'm not elaborating on that point, just wanted to put it out there.)

turn-based battle system
very simple. also can get tedious. if you get too powerful in the beginning, you'll one-shot everything for at least an hour. everything has an animation. i like the strawhat crews stuff, guess why, but some of the basic enimies' attack animations can get so annoying after the 4th or 5th time.

overall
it's a very story-orientated game. has nice character designs and a cool concept. would not recommend buying any dlc until you fully understand the mechanics and/or item system. I think if you really like one piece you should try playing it a bit, but before you buy it watch a playthrough. oh also btw theres a few puzzles forgot to mention it

you dont wanna read allat?
in summary:
u like one piece? you like game probably
u no like long travel? you no like game probably
u like turn based attack system? you like game probably

the one piece is real

It is as advertised, a One Piece RPG with all the normal RPG things. That being said there is nothing amazing about it either. I'm not sorry I bought it and It honestly doesn't suck. It's just not amazing. you know

kraftiusdinner
kraftiusdinner

It was fun, only problem imo is that there is a lack of replayability. Aside from that, smooth ride, lots of great character moments. I recommend picking it up whenever it goes on sale, and the deluxe edition IS worth the cheaper access to the DLC whenever its on sale too

Rexus
Rexus

this game is not for me

for reference, I did watch the beginning part of the anime (recognized 5 characters of the cast), thought it was ok, but not a huge fan, and the start of the game failed to hold my interests. Lack of English dub especially did not do it any favors.
The combat is very simple, both mechanically and difficulty-wise, which again did not attract my interests.
Without story and combat, the pleasant art style and music are not enough to save the game.
