Kinda like "Amnesia a machine for pigs" an awful sequel to an aspiring horror franchise

This game is so scary, intense and disgusting that I uninstalled it as soon as I finished.

I strongly recommend it! I don't remember the last time I was so scared in a video game to make a single step forward.

So far Outlast 2 is a good sequel to the first game in the Outlast-franchise. It remains to be seen if the game is as scary as its predecessor.

People tend to be mixed on this game, and admittedly I think Outlast 2 is not as good as the first one, with some caveats. The overall production quality, lighting, and quality of life improvements exceed the original; that said, a lot of the story seems a bit all over the place, there's some pacing issues, and some of the level design is a bit restrictive given that the setting should allow for a lot more movement.

I think Outlast 2 has even more linear set-pieces than its predecessor, and often times it feels a bit arbitrary when you trip a certain trigger going down some path, causing enemies to agro or know your exact location immediately. I know the original game also worked like this, but it seems a bit more noticeable in Outlast 2. I also feel like many of the sections were way more trial-and-error than the first, but that can also just be me.

That said, I still had a lot of fun playing it, and some of the highs were higher than Outlast 1. One part, in the early game, where you had to sneak through a village, with pretty much every building having interiors and hiding spots, was definitely one of the highlights. Or, making the decision to jump off a staircase to make a quick escape, and having to use a health-item to heal in the process.

Personally, I recommend to play Outlast 1 and its DLC first, before making the decision to try Outlast 2. If I were to rank the games, it'd be as follows:

Whistleblower > Outlast 1 > Outlast 2

Though, it's a bit meaningless since Whistleblower is a direct continuation of 1. I think the only issue Outlast 1 has is the pacing and repetition in the last third of the game, whereas I think Whistleblower is pretty close to perfect, though a shorter experience (from my memory since I last played, anyway.)

Coming from someone who has played through many games I consider to be extremely frightening (Slender: The Arrival, Joy of Creation: Story Mode, >60 hours in Phasmophobia, and many indie horror games), this game was genuinely too sus for me. As you can deduce, I made it about 20 minutes into the game before I uninstalled and never touched it again. It was already nailing the panicky atmosphere, which was giving me that adrenaline rush. However, once the story progressed to the pit full of infant corpses with the upside down cross via moonlight, I was done.

It's not a bad game. I wish I could leave a neutral review as I don't strongly hate or love it. I love the first game and DLC but playing the second game just wasn't fun for me like I was hoping it would be. I didn't enjoy the mechanics (I do understand why they introduced them though, don't get me wrong, such as in the first game you can literally just hold sprint and outrun everything) and the fact that half the time I had no idea where to go so died really often. I'm not against a learning curb but I am against having literally no sense of direction by no fault of my own and dying because previous said mechanics (like the slide) don't work making me think I am going the wrong way - when really I wasn't it just didn't let me under the gap for whatever reason etc.
Maybe the more I get familiar with it, I'll be able to enjoy it more but I just don't feel like games should be like that, I don't want to have to practice it to enjoy it I just want to enjoy it and then replay BECAUSE I enjoyed it.

Another great Outlast. I have to say that I liked part 1 of the story better. I think I just like this ''crazy mental asylum with crazy lunatics''. But Part 2 also deserves a lot of attention.

So I have conflicted views with this game. Overall this game is good. Its pretty cheap and on sale you can get it for a few euros. It's a moderatly creepy game. I'd say the first edition is creepier as it focuses more on the panic scares/chases that makes Outlast such a great horror game.

Overall the gameplay/mechanics have obviously improved greatly. The camera is done better imo, the map is desgined better (Yet doesn't feel like Outlast imo).
The chase scenes are ofc still there, they are better designed with interesting paths and crawling etc. Yet it lacks something that makes it seem like the original game. Maybe i'm just missing Chris Walker who knows.
The games atmopshere doesnt feel like outlast. Imo it felt more like the latest Resident Evil games mixed with some other elements. The world is too fantasy (Ik the story and Ik thats its not entirely real). The reason why Outlast was so good was because of how Gritty and realistic it was in a way. The same can't really be applied to To Outlast 2. It's way too unrealistic (Yes ik the story)

For the dream/flashback sequences. I think they are good yet can be a little annoying to the gameplay. They obviously add that Depth to Blake that was kinda lacking in Miles (Imo Miles was enough for a main character, not as nuanced as Blake however) I love how Blake's psyche constantly gets worse. The dreams even mix with "Reality". This game is obviously not a fantasy game. The character is under special circumstances. A lot of things doesnt make sense in this game. I have my own theories however.

To the story then. This game is obviously in the same universe. SPOILERS!!!!! its a continuation of the expirements in the Murkoff Facility. They have set up mind control radio towers that emmits frequences. Thats why they get stronger and stronger over time. The baby isnt real. In Outlast 1 its mentioned that some effect of the Morphogenic Engine are phantom pregnancies. The story is very hidden. Not like the original Outlast. Which I both dislike and Like. I dislike it because you don't get that progressive understanding of what's really going on like in Outlast 1. You sit there at the end totally confused what really happened. Yet it was fun piecing it all together oncee you find the right documents you can get minor clues. Like the mentions of Professor Jenny in outlast 1. This proves the same people worked on both sites.

Either way Im sorry this Review turned out to a comparison between Outlast and Outlast 2 rather than a honest review of the game. This is more of a rant/rambling than a review in reality. Hope you enjoyed it however

The game is OK I guess, but nowhere near as good as Outlast 1. The most interesting segments were for sure school hallucinations.

Wherefore gird up the loins of you that would listen, ready your mind, be open and sober in patience for revelation, obedient as children to parents, as parents to the Prophets, as the Prophets to God and His angels. Val betrayed Temple Gate, and God, and even Sullivan Knoth who had loved true and would guide the chosen to salvation. Thus, on your journey repeat these words, "God give me voice, God guide my hand."

SCREAM

I haven't seen this much wicked originality in a horror game in a long time. It's significantly more open than the original, which heightens the sense of dread. With several labyrinthine constructions and natural cover like long grass and rivers, it is simpler to just escape from enemies, but it is also more difficult to anticipate their approach. While this could appear to be poor game design on paper, it works well in practice when the intention is to create a sense of desperation.
