The best way to put Pako 2 is if you took Hotline Miami but heavily mixed it with Drive. Because you know...you drive.
You essentially take the role as a getaway driver and are basically going on a spree to see how many time you help people getaway from the cops before ultimately trying to make the getaway yourself.
There's a wide range of cars, weapons, and powers you can unlock but knowing how to perfectly use them to your advantage is the hard part.
It has a decent amount of maps to unlock and each one has it's own unique atmosphere and style to it and each have a few twists and turns to throw at you.
Optimizing routes, power-ups, perks, weapon usage, boost as well as memorizing the maps will be the only way you make it out in one piece. I say that because this game will not go easy on you, the cops are ruthless and you should be doing everything in your power to make sure they don't win.
The music by DKSTR is phenominal, giving you bumping retrowave tracks that set the tone and immersing you in the kind of 80's action film feel the game goes for.
If it sounds like the kinda thing you'd be into, I implore you to check Pako 2 out as I doubt you'll regret it.

There is so much wrong with this car chase game going from bugs to broken controls in menus to just the basic gameplay choices that it all comes together to make one of the most frustrating and awful games I've played in a long time

There are numerous bugs in this game. The forums still have people pointing out several and I myself have, several times, had the game totally frozen upon "escaping" a level forcing me to alt-tab out of the game and close the game from desktop.

The gameplay consists of driving round the map, picking up people from A and delivering them to B whilst the stupidest police AI ever attempts to stop you by throwing hundreds of police at you in a straight line. The cops AI is so bad that it removes most of the fun out of the car chases because you know that the game will spawn a dozen more cops in whatever direction you go and almost literally throw them straight at you. I've even had it where I could see them continually spawn out of the destination I was supposed to be going to.

The game expects you to be able to watch where you are driving, watch out for the oncoming cop cars (which is extra difficult because several spawn in thin air in front of you) and all the while be shooting at cops following you. All this is to be done with incredibly awkward controls, making driving in a straight line hard to accomplish as the car drunkenly zig-zags over the screen. The shooting isn't much better as because you are focused on not crashing into the slightest obstacle which will cause your car to stop (which equals almost instant death) you barely have any time to accurately shoot at the cops chasing you. So I tend to just point the gun behind me and blindly shoot, only occasionally getting the chance to actually aim at anyone chasing me.

Add to that that your car is knocked about so easily and it's almost impossible to tell after which direction you are facing. Am I facing back the way I came? Am I slowly driving into a wrecked car? Am I stuck against the wall? Am I pointing straight up at the sky? If any of those have happened you are probably dead as the incredibly inept AI is going to keep spawning out of thin air and ram you to death.

The opening map is a confusing mess and has so many little obstacles and walls, that you can't see coming with the games awful camera, and if you hit them you loose so much momentum which in this game means a very quick death is full of instant death pits and narrow bridges across said instant death pits which with the games terrible controls are actually a struggle to get over even before any police chase has begun. This is the map they have decided to lead with, to showcase their game to people who are playing it and it's so bad. Someone has told me that the second map is much better but you have to grind away at this first map to actually unlock it .

The game seems to actively hate the idea of you using a controller. It doesn't seem to know the difference between buttons when using a controller in the menu. Several times I have pressed the button to go back and it just seems to think I pressed the "OK" button. This leads to you getting stuck in menu loops and annoyingly caused me to waste all my money buying a car I didn't want because the game doesn't even know which button is which. I would try using a mouse and keyboard but for some reason the game doesn't want you to reassign some keys to the Ctrl or Shift button. Why would they do this? It's either to be a pain or incompetence and with the rest of the games design choices I honestly have no idea which.

The games graphical style is at least nice to look at, though it quickly grows boring. It also has a lot of horrifically ugly post processing FX which they at least allow you to turn off. Considering the rest of the games design choices it's a miracle they let us do that.

The soundtrack is bland but not offensively so, though why they would ever offer it as a soundtrack is beyond me

The core gameplay loop is awful, the driving is awful, the action is awful, the chases with brain dead AI is awful. Game breaking bugs add on top of all this making PAKO 2 one of the most infuriating, unsatisfying and, well, awful car games I've ever played.

I honestly bought it along with PAKO because I played them on phone and liked them.
THey're far better on PC, even if I'd say the police is far too agressive. I've been dog-piled so many times after the 5th robbery with how fast and numerous the police cars are.

It's a nice game to play if you don't feel like doing anything. I'd say its well priced too. 5$ isn't the worst ever

Brilliant arcade top-down car chase game. I love the way the game plays, I love everything about the aesthetic, and if you want to try it before you buy, it's available on iOS with some features removed (I'e played the phone version for years).

sometimes i dont understand why i spun out. sometimes i dont understand what sort of invisible geometry i got stuck in. where is my cursor in the chaos on screen. why my turbo decided to betray me.
but between the excellent music, the great style, that random perk that comes in clutch and that golden run where everything goes perfect... maybe its all worth it, you know?

a beautifully retro-designed indie game that puts you in the seat of a getaway driver. drive in, get out, get paid, no questions asked. in the midst of you trying to maneuver your way in between alleyways and jumping gaps, you will have an arsenal of weapons at your disposal to kill cops that are hot on your tail. despite its simple-looking graphics, the game excellently nails its atmosphere alongside its adrenaline-filled soundtrack.

you could easily pour several hours in this game, or simply play whenever you're feeling bored. all of this for only $6. i would highly recommend.

EbaT MoN Xyi
EbaT MoN Xyi

This game is entirely different but also is a direct upgrade to the 1st PAKO:
aesthetically pleasing retro graphics, the maps are just something, devs absolutely nailed retro look for each and every one of them
...paired with good ol' low-poly models style, now with a bit of pixel textures
and just absolute banger of a soundtrack that matches the cop chase theme even more somehow, really gets me pumping
,oh and also guns! power-ups! perks! cash and progression!
This game really gives me retro heist vibes.

Some minor problems with the game such as particles obscuring the view, controls being unresponsive at times and cars doing 180 turns after hitting a rock, the progression is also too easy and actually completing the maps doesn't feel rewarding enough(outside of the +20% Escape Bonus perk maybe).

I think it would be cool if somebody made a fan animation

Bubblegum Witch
Bubblegum Witch

I think Pako 2 ends up being the worst game in the series, despite - or perhaps because - it's the most ambitious. The game is essentially Crazy Taxi with guns, and some cute references make it obvious the similarity isn't lost on the developers. However, I think this clutters the core gameplay loop. Endlessly running away from cops is more fun that being asked to memorize entire map layouts because the guidance system is pants. Conceptually it's sound, and I can't say I don't enjoy playing it, but it's too reliant on knowing the landmarks of visually indistinct maps. For a couple of bucks this a decent time waster, just not as polished as its predecessor.

Quick! Get this effin game or we are all dead!

Jokes aside, this game is fantastic. Like, really, REALLY fantastic. If you want a top-down racing game, like Super Woden GP and match it with a twin-stick shooter, this is a title worthy of your time and money, guaranteed! First of all, driving the cars feel natural. Instead of feeling like you are driving a greased pickle on ice or a heavyweight 18-wheeler in a swamp, it feels fast, but also weighty. The cars slip around, but not too much to make it near impossible to control it and the speed of the game is just right, allowing you to react to certain obstacles like buildings, rivers, canyons, roadblocks and incoming police cars within a forgiving time. That being said, the game can be pretty tough at times. The heat increases quickly and so does the challenge. Upgrading your ride, getting bigger guns and learning the map are essential to get good in this game. Good thing this game isn't grindy. A new car could be bought within a reasonable time, but yet again, you need to get good in order to get bigger cash. In my opinion, a great thing. The graphics look aesthetically pleasing and the soundtrack fits very well. Top it off with a bucketload of atmosphere and we have a great piece of software in our hands.

My final verdict: may look rough on the outside, but it's surprisingly fun and an overall awesome experience. It's worth every cent.

Pako 2 is a fun game in short bursts. It plays like a mix of Crazy Taxi and Hotline Miami. There are plenty of options for tweaking the graphics coupled with a killer pause function that allows you to take some pretty brilliant screenshots. The level designs are top-notch, and many of them seem reminiscent of Coen Brothers films like Fargo and No Country for Old Men. Nothing beats driving up to the edge of a cliff, hitting the brakes, and seeing all the cars chasing you fly off the edge.

Strategy 2/10
old arcade game feel 9/10
Music 10/10
Default graphics settings 0/10 , seriously most of the krap is not even needed and boggs down your system.

Great little game for the price, but it is very simple.

The AI basically knows your location at all times, and spawns the police on a timer if there are not enough cops on the screen.

This basically makes stealth, and path choosing worthless. The cops will magically come out of warp-space and appear even on top of cliffs and buildings.

Hope the developers put more time into this title or make a completely new one with better AI, so we can use stealth tactics, and "backroads" to avoid detection for short ammounts of time.

Looking forward to playing this with my brother, it definately is challengeing enough for 2 players.

Highly HIGHLY recommended! Just such a fun game. Its just one of those hidden gems that catches you by surprise and before you know it youve sunk countless hours into it. I like to put on some driving music turn it up loud and just zone out. Games great, seriously a lot of fun and its great for relaxation, but also those wow moments when crazy things happen in the chases.

It does have some bugs and its not perfect but i definitely think they got a lot of things right with this. Its definitely worth getting.

Awesome arcade game. This game would have been right at home at the arcade back in the 80's or 90's. Add in some progression on PC and it's a game I can play for 3 or 30 minutes. Super fun game. Don't have to wait for a sale on this one but if there is you have no excuse.

Little Known Fact: Hotline Miami 2 was originally going to have driving sequences. They were eventually cut from the game and ended up here.

Easily one of the best car chase games I've played in my entire life. I love this game and I cannot praise it enough. Buy this, you idiot.

BlinkyourDead
BlinkyourDead

I recommend this game, but with the caveat that you get it on sale. While this game's basic mechanics are fairly fun, you can see all it has to offer within one to two hours. Repeating the basic premise of going from point A to point B while being chased is all there is gameplay wise. The progression system is primarily built around the different cars, but the cars primary differences are having more health or being faster. The actual functionality of all the cars feels roughly the same. The only things that change the gameplay, the perks, can all be earned fairly quickly. If you enjoy the driving mechanics (which feel wonky at times, especially with ledges), and don't mind repetitive gameplay, this can be a fun little game.

Generic and repetitive game. None of the camera modes is good enough. When using the chase camera, the arrow (that points to the objective) doesn't point to the right direction.

thepowerlies
thepowerlies

The game may sound simple, but it's all the extra trappings that push this one well ahead of it's competition. lots of cars to buy with in game cash, tons of weapons to purchase that adds a lot to the fun, mods that can be installed, a perk system that can be customized and earned through each successful drop-off, stat boosting for each vehicle, multiple levels! graphic setting is also here which is something i rarely see in small games.

BrainZapBaby
BrainZapBaby

Positives
-Beautiful art style with vibrant colors
-Balanced levels of post-processing effects that won't leave you with a headache after playing
-Exciting and addictive gameplay that you can easily pick up and play for a quick run or a longer game session
-Tight controls

Cons
-Extremely grindy with expensive unlocks
-Camera controls feel a little sloppy at times

Verdict
I wholeheartedly recommend this game at the full price to anyone who doesn't mind grinding a lot between upgrades. While this progression system can be quite frustrating at times, the actual gameplay remains engaging after many runs with the same car on the same map. 7.5/10

Bazzjay
Bazzjay

Awesome game and highly recommend buying it. Fun and erratic gameplay but also hell to start off. With it being very repetitive.

MAJOR BUGS
I earned around 20-30k for my run, which didn't get put on the leaderboard because after escaping, my car kept driving in the background while in the menu and crashed, causing the game to just watch my car and losing my score without being able to go back to the menu.

Going anywhere near a canyon and easily being able to save yourself kills you instantly, yet at times I've even been able to drive in the canyon which shouldn't be possible!

But what can I say, its PAKO. I still highly recommend this game, with its extreme action, well done 80s/90s graphics that aren't badly done or stereotypical like in other games, it has its own style which I've always loved and i'm sure you will too.

Incredibly fun and addictive. An entertaining pleasurable grind of cash and XP to buy and upgrade cars and guns whilst unlocking perks that stack during each run. The gameplay harks back to the original GTA games but stripped down to nonstop car chase, picking up robbers and dropping them off as increasing amount of police cars, vans and helicopters come after you. The levels are all nicely designed and each map feels really big but easy to get to know after you've had "one more go" on it for the millionth time.
If I was to be critical, it did feel a bit too grindy to begin with, but once I started unlocking things (and discovered the car shop later than I probably should have) it always felt like I was being regularly rewarded.
I'd love to see some DLC for this in the form of some some of street racer game or some kind of story mode plotting a narrative through the different landscapes and different vehicles. But this is merely me craving more! Fantastic game!!!

An old visual style car running with a unique camera view. It's simple with few stages but there are too many possibilities during the chase and run. I feel like I can do this all day, it deserves after all.

Really cool game, feels like old-school GTA games,

Just Drive, and shoot. NO QUESTIONS

I like the style they chose, but sometimes its a bit too much, therefore i like that in the settings it can be toned down.

Cars feel light, how ever this is a preference thing. I dont mind them now, but it would be nice if it felt like they had more weight

First impressions didn’t go so well, first time I started the game the tutorial didn’t work. luckily the developer had posted a solution in a forum

It's like GTA3 with just the cop chasing and unique locations. Very nice for $1.50 (on sale). You should absolutely play the game with chase cam on though, made the game way easier for me. It's up to you though I guess.

Swank

This is a remarkable game in so many ways. It's a very simple concept that is very well executed. The controls take some getting used to, I still struggle with steering and aiming to shoot at the same time but that's part of the charm. You WILL run into the one tiny tree in the middle of a big open space repeatedly! I love the 80's VHS feel of the menus, it's incredible. Instructions would be nice, the tutorial doesn't explain much at all, but you'll fumble through the rest eventually. Great casual game or you can make hours go away too before you know it. Got it on sale for less than $2 CAD. Get it, try it, and worst case refund it but worst case would be rare IMO.

its pretty much crazy taxi with guns and a surprising amount of stuff to unlock. Great for short play sessions

To put it shortly, a fun take on shooting coppers, robbing random places n picking up your crew, an overall decent game to pass time with.

Best 5€ spent. Very addicting risk vs. reward gameplay. Lots of cars and loadouts to master. At its best, you feel like a getaway driver, outsmarting your pursuers with skillful driving, or perfectly placed shots and traps.

The unlock progression is pretty slow, especially starting out where you'll die before reaching a respectable money multiplier. But you aren't hitting retry thinking about earning more money.

A shame we probably won't see a PAKO 3.

i came here after playing the mobile game and practically 'beating' everything, all the levels, the roadking, etc. And this was even epicer!!! I love buying stuff in games, and so this was good. I think you should price the cars differently though, as a lot are basically the same price. The gameplay does get a bit repetitive, so maybe add new gamemodes or something like that, e.g. mayhem: just explode as many cars and destroy stuff for money. Or maybe add a tank... And the music is absolute fire! If you read these, tell DKSTR i said hi!

CheekyChan

So where to start with this one. PAKO 2 is a lot of fun, it's hectic as all hell when you've got a few minutes into a map and messing with the cops is a lot of fun. Top down is fun but chase cam is GREAT. I feel like chase cam is how this game was designed to be played.

There are a few things that annoy me though, chase mode doesn't feel fleshed out, you can change the zoom of the camera via the pause menu which is nice but because it uses the right stick to shoot there's no way to just turn the camera so you're stuck not knowing what's on either side of you and you can't see very far behind you which leads to a lot of unfair shooter cop deaths as they fire at you off screen.

I would have loved a rear view mirror and maybe using the shoulder buttons to look left and right if need be and I would have absolutely adored a two player mode where one person can shoot and the other can drive kind of like the Starsky and Hutch game on PS2.

The good?

Gameplay is fun, it's simple to learn and the basic customization is nice, the driving physics are solid and it's great in short bursts.

The bad?

This game has bugs, many times now whether in chase or top down mode I've had cops spawn literally right on my car and blow me up or stop me in place so that I get railed from behind by the 8 or so cops that were chasing me and get blown up.

Turbo is inconsistent at times, barely speeds me up and other times it launches me off a cliff to my death and the aiming of the passenger seems off at times as well, he'll fire right over cops quite a lot. As mentioned, the camera bugs out and doesn't show the shooting cops off screen in chase mode mainly which leads to cheap hits on my HP. Cop spawns are also pretty broken in general.

A co-op mode via two players in one car and maybe two cars on the map would be fun, a way to make chase mode more polished would be nice too, maybe show arrows that point at, grow and shrink as cops move in closer to you from behind and again a rear view mirror would be nice.

Overall I really enjoy the game, it reminds me of the original Driver games and that's a good thing. We've never quite had another one since D2.

But yeah, maybe some more polish in an update or for the next game.

More a "Crazy Taxi" vibe than that of any of the GTA games, in my opinion. Definitely helps me scratch that itch when I want to experience frantic arcade-style driving action while surrounded with explosions.

Lots of attention was paid to the completely-configurable visual effects. The inclusion of the "chase camera" was a welcome addition for someone like me who doesn't do well with top-down driving games. Beyond the gameplay, there's a layer of retro-styled, synthwave VHS charm that lends an attractive visual style and aesthetic to the moments between runs.

After the initial familiarity sets in and you are accustomed to the general flow of the game, being able to arrange the bonuses and perks in the order you want opens up the game to deeper strategic plotting. Each level starts of with a prowling, "stakeout" phase dripping with tension, where you stroll round the environment and learn the layout. Once you pick up your first perps though, the sirens begin to wail and you don't stop until you're busted or you escape.

Oh, and there are more than two dozen vehicles to purchase, learn to drive, and tweak, along with a host of weapons and secondary weapons to accent your personal play style. I personally go with tanky trucks and big hunks of metal rollin' through like a juggernaut. But if you like it fast and loose in the tail, you'll find vehicles that match your style as well.

Overall, this is an admirable arcade-style driver action game. In the short time I've been able to play PAKO 2, it's been a blast.

A fun GTA style romp with old-school graphics and hectic gameplay. I can't really find anything bad to say about this game other than that there appears to be no option to quit the game from any of the menus, forcing the player to press Alt+F4 any time you want to quit. Otherwise this is a gem that I haven't seen mentioned in any publications or gaming forums. If you like action driving games this is definitely worth the price.

Come for the action, stay for the music—and the action.

I am really sad that I never played much of this whilst it was new. I wasn't too fond of how different it was from it's predecessor. Well, here I am loving every bit of this game. The music, art and design, and the gameplay work so beautifully together.

Just what I needed to pass the time when snowbound. Tight, focused gameplay and lots of little upgrades to tweak. One thing I wish they had was more distinct differences in the available chassis, but the system in place is good enough. And less than ten bucks!

This game is so fucking good. Dear god I love it. Play well and it feels amazing. Play badly and you are still rewarded with cash money, so no play feels like a waste. PRO BUY!

Fun overall, the core idea is good and I enjoyed the driving and shooting. Needs more variety in the environments and events, gets a bit samey after a few hours.

The game is good but i bought it mostly because pako 1 got me through sitting in the lobby of MANY piano lessons i was dragged along to. Thanks guys, you saved me from sleeping on really bad carpet or touching things i really should not have.

Really fun game! Well worth getting. Plays much more naturally on controller than on a keyboard in my opinion. Shooting with the stick on controller takes a couple runs to get used to, but I've ended up liking it better than the mouse. Still good either way. A bit grind-heavy at the beginning, but once you get into it and start making deeper runs with higher multipliers it doesn't seem as grindy. Very fun game to just pick up and play, would highly reccommend, very fleshed-out game for the price!

This game needs to be updated.
I can't play the game on my Mac anymore because the OS it runs on no longer supports 32-bit games like this one. Games have to be 64-bits in order to be accessible now. Can you please update Pako 2 Tree Man Games?

Fun game, could easily see myself sinking a lot of hours into it mastering each level. Especially worth it if you see it on sale.

Transformed the mobile game into almost an entirely new game with greater depth. Really sweet what they pulled off here, and probably the best mobile game port I know of.
