Paper Dolls 3, when? We still need to find Molly! I really love this game series a lot, I enjoyed playing it and often even got frustrated at Boss fights because they are not easy, I always played on Hard Mode too. I got really involved in the story, and the graphics are absolutely beautiful and realistic. I loved just exploring the abandoned house and watching all the details, and learning about Chinese culture while solving all the riddles. It is both fun and scary at the same time and definitely a challenge.
This became one of my favorite Horror Games Series and I hope we can have the continuation of the story :)
Thank you for the hard work!

I can almost recommend this game, liked it but still disappointed.
I really wish it had more polish

Pros:
-looks fantastic
-great atmosphere
-decent story
-rather creative and not particularly difficult puzzles
-good level design

Cons:
-clunky animations, movement and combat
-the autosave system (at least it exists I guess)
-some bugs
-mechanics and what you're supposed to be doing are often very vague
-English translation is generally fine except missing key elements needed for completing certain puzzles
-little replayability value

Honestly I felt pretty bored most of the time, the game wasn't scary at all.
Pretty much all scares are obviously telegraphed.
Bad autosave spots or none at all before many scuffed sequences I kept dying to (even on easy), forced me to constantly repeat the same jumpscares, the same qte's and actions over and over (fortunately cutscenes are skippable). Completely ruins the flow and raises frustration.
Hiding in wardrobes is barely useful and a waste of time compared to other methods, except at one point in the entire game it's necessary.

Plus I don't know about others but downloading the game through Steam counted as play time for me, so I couldn't refund the game if I wanted to, never happened to me with any other game.

"Paper Dolls2" continues the"Paper Dolls1 ”generation of the survival of the horror adventure puzzle game style, game content has also made a lot of expansion, the atmosphere, the story, the gameplay, the sound effects, and so on are all improved. They're all highly enjoyable and enjoyable, but when you're playing alone for the first time, it's depressing, fear follows, and every now and then you look back to see if a ghost is following you in the spooky aisles, full of Chinese horror, the Spooky Beijing opera singing, creating an atmosphere of horror that belongs only to China.

Continuing the classic atmosphere of the previous work, the entire story is enriched. Although slightly inferior to the previous work overall, it is also a rare masterpiece, and the entire story is heartbreaking.

A great follow up to Paper Dolls I, this continues the story with even better graphics and puzzles. If you get stuck, consult a walk through since it is not always obvious what to do next. The only thing I found frustrating was the combat. I don't mind quick-time, but blocking attacks with a knife-like device always required perfect timing, and it was hard to judge when exactly they were going to attack. The only time that worked for me was when the game purposely slowed down to give you a better chance. Still, an excellent horror/puzzle game.

In this riveting tale...You play a guy who has the land speed of a limbless sloth. You go through this not so fast epic adventure where you do not always register hits on the bosses but by golly they can hit you through pillars and you have a hit box that of a semi. After going through all the phases the thing that I was must excited about, was uninstalling this game. So do yourself a favor after beating the first game pretend you got your daughter back, and just do not even bother with this second game. This was not a game for scares...I guess the only thing this game has going for it was the music and graphics.

I think I'll recommend this game because there are a lot of things I like about it. There are however some HUGE flaws with it at the moment. But let's start out with the good.

The map is about twice as big as in the first game, which also leads to the game being about twice as long. This can of course be seen as both a good and bad thing, but for the most part I think it works out well.
Unlike the first game, this game has some combat mechanics that aren't quick-time events.
The wandering spirits now all behave quite different from each other.
You can now peek out when hiding so you'll easier know when the coast is clear.
You can't turn off your flashlight which is just as well since enemies didn't seem to care whether it was on or not in the first game.
You now can take a hit without dying, just one, but that's enough to let you risk a dash around an enemy that's got you cornered.

On the bad side of things however.
Due to the map being so much bigger it means that if you are at a loss as to what you should do you must look around for much longer to see if you missed something.
There's some boss battles, and due to you dying from only two hits you have very little opportunity to learn how the boss works, so get ready to play them quite a few times.
And the absolute biggest flaw, and if I didn't like the rest of the game as much as I do I'd say this is an unforgivable flaw: There are untranslated text that's needed to complete several puzzles. Now all the text in the game is translated and quite well, except when it is part of a picture/texture. A few of the earlier puzzles could be quite easily brute-forced, but later on there's some with a ton of possible combinations that you simply have to look up on youtube. I really hope the developers patch this because it's a flaw that will put off a lot of people.

I hope to see more games from these guys, and I hope they stick with the historical motif in their games, they pulled it off really well.

Lack of translation of the compass is troublesome, really needs translated. Time frame of blocking enemy attacks is to small making fights troublesome.

This game is not for everybody. Avoid if you're not a fan of puzzles, because there are a ton. Some of which are exceptionally esoteric and obscure. You may end up having to work your noodle a bit harder than normal(giggity) or consulting a walkthrough/video.

There were so many things about this game that tugged at my heartstrings for so many reasons. The biggest one being that it gave me serious Silent Hill vibes.

What?!?

Yes, darling. This game took me waaaaay back, swept the cobwebs from my eyes, and whispered sweet horrible nothings to me in a way I have not experienced in a long time.

Now, if you're looking for something that is a carbon copy of Silent Hill, this will not be it. Why did I say what I did, then? Because the story is about a father searching for his daughter in a mysterious place that is trapped in time. The atmosphere was eerie, but very subtle unless you're in the thick of it. And the music. Something about the music brought me back. Especially the end credits. I won't lie, I wept a little.

My weary spirit ran the gamut of emotions while playing this. I was skeptical at first, but the deeper I fell down the rabbit hole, the more I was pulled in to the story of the family who once presided over this great house. I laughed, I cried, I grumbled, and gnashed my teeth in frustration.

The puzzles ranged from 'Captain Obvious' to 'Dr. Strangelove' as far as difficulty. I don't speak very much Chinese, and this meant many of the puzzles were pretty challenging as a result. I learned a little which was kinda cool because I'm one of those weirdos who likes to learn haha.

The game didn't feel very scary at first. For the first 30 minutes, all I was feeling was my dust allergy reacting to the sight of all the dirty objects in the house. Thank goodness it was only a game because I would have needed an inhaler to get through that house in person.

After those 30 minutes, things started to get tense. I kept finding pieces of the story all around the manor and they came in the form of paper scraps or actual audio that you overhear as long as you're careful enough not to interrupt the spirits--spooks who are easily spooked. :P

There are chase sequences with a lot of trial and error so be prepared to reload a lot until you figure out the correct path. Once you get through them you feel like a golden champion. It's pretty amazing.

And now, I am hungry for Paper Dolls III. Ravenous.

I was going to put this into my 'Spoopy' folder for games. But I liked this title so much, that I'm going to put it right next to Ethan Carter and Dead Space in my 'Masterpiece' folder. This game lit up every single light in my brain as far as a survival horror experience goes.

I was running for my life, scared, never sure if turning the next corner would mean my doom. I don't just want Paper Dolls III, I need it. I have to have it. This series is in my blood now and if I don't get to have more, I'm not sure what I'll do. Sulk probably. XD

This game is most definitely worth the price for me. If you're not a fan of puzzles in other languages or constantly running for your life, you may want to grab it on sale.

Replay value is decent as there are achievements and unlockable character skins that let you play as different people. Though the difficultly curve jumps pretty sharply. I will probably only be able to complete this on the easiest difficultly like the first game. I'm no spring chicken anymore, so I appreciate the easy settings on games since I am slower in my 30's than I was as a teenager.

Two thumbs up! Way up! To the Moon, Alice!!

I Am The Scout Here
I Am The Scout Here

It is a great game, the atmosphere is amazing for a horror game and the graphics are nice. I would recommend playing the first game before this one for a better understand of the deep and interesting story. But if you just want to play without much of a care for story, just look up a Youtube video on the story for game 1 and play this one. This game is for any skill level gamer, you could be a casual gamer like me and enjoy it or you could be elite gamer and still enjoy it on a higher difficulty. I'm kinda dragging on but I genuinely love this game and I feel it should be shared with others. So if you play it alone or with some buds, you'll have a good time, quite a few scares and moments where you go "how tf did I miss that!" Btw this is a puzzle game with a nice combat system. So when you finish reading the review I hope I convinced you to get it. I rate it 20/10.

Don't you love it when your main character seems to have arthritis and walks slower than your 90 year old neighbour? It's even better when you combine arthritis movement with a walking sim and slow motion chases.

The Chinese aesthetics and visuals are the only redeeming qualities, otherwise it's just another copy & paste Amnesia hide & seek clone.
Bring back horror games with weapons & actual gameplay. It can't be that Silent Hill is still the best in the genre.

This game is beautiful in its scenery, story, collectibles, and concept. However, it has two enormous flaws. The first are that you move at the pace of a snail. You can run for about two seconds, if that, and it takes forever to regain your stamina. I say "run" what I mean is, you can move slightly faster. Horrible, horrible mechanic which ruins the immersion. Secondly, enemies are unbelievably powerful. One hit and you're done. So essentially you end up playing a game where you want to explore more and learn more, but you can't because you're stuck dying all the time because you can't get away. Horribly dissapointing. Could have been so much more...

PINK SKYLINE
PINK SKYLINE

The main character has arthritis and moves at a speed of a snail in slow motion.
Enemies are OP, checkpoints are extremely scarce and do not let you save before stupid chase sequences.
You die all the time and the game is extremely boring.

I like how they mention that this game takes 10 hrs to beat. Of f***ing course it takes 10 hrs to beat if you walk at a speed of a paralysed snail. Make the character at least sprint at a normal walking pace and the game will become 5 hrs long. Remove the stupid slow motion chases and you're down to 2 hrs tops.

When you get the sawed-off you think okay finally I have some firepower. Well, no you don't. It shoots air, literally. Air. The enemies tilt backwards 3 cm when you shoot them and keep going (by going I mean sliding across floor with no animation, very buggy). Shooting them is like spitting in their faces, they tilt a bit for half a second, like sneezing, then keep going.

I tried my best to progress but I'm tired of redoing same sequence of slow motion snail walking simulator 99 times over and over. 90% of the game is redoing same sequence over and over after you die. It's like the main gameplay portion of the game - redoing same puzzle untill you just go to steam help and refund this scam.

DAN-di-WARhol

I played for an hour, checked it had saved. Quit. Started the game up, and found that it had overwritten my save with a new game.

Save bugs are the worst kind of bugs. Avoid.

My Second Hobby
My Second Hobby

Quite possibly the WORST game I have ever played.

Played this on Hard Mode

This game has one word that completely describes how it is -> TEDIOUS

Main gameplay:

- Consists of walking empty halls that are not scary, looking for clues hidden in odd and uninspired locations.
- The hiding mechanic is a pure gimmick and the puzzles are just very boring.
- Character you play as moves SLOWER then a drunk snail, can barely run (running is what we would consider walking.) and really is a nobody you don't care about.

Glaring issues

- Slow, Slow, SLOW! Everything is slow, from animations and story to movement.
- Enemies are invunerable when mid animation and do not take damage.
- Enemies kill you in one shot and through walls or objects.
- Quick-time events everywhere. Now these are not ordinary quick-time events, these are forcing you to hold some of the buttons and then toggle over, which is VERY hard to do.
- When reloading a gun, you move slower and can't pick up items like health/ammo.
- When stamina runs out, you're alot slower then usual. Leaving you open for attack.
- No dodge/roll or evade is present in the game. Meaning you have to move like a CRAB if you want to win a boss battle.

Story

- Honestly don't remember anything, it's uninspired, dull and NOT scary.

I have tried to request a steam refund but will most likely not get one,
as I tried to complete the game to best of my abilities, but can't due to the games uneaven, unbalanced and tacky gameplay.

STAY CLEAR!

The atmosphere and some jumpscare are pretty okay but the level design/combat design are pretty uninspired.
Even if you are a fan of horror games, only recommended if you know how to read Chinese since some puzzles are not fully localized and need to read walkthrough and guide which take away the fun factor of horror/puzzle games.

Paper Dolls 2 is a sequel to Paper Dolls: Original. It is a horror game from a Chinese studio named Litchi Game. Paper Dolls 2 is very similar to Paper Dolls: Original and I would suggest to play that game before playing this one.

The game starts where the first game ended, on a second floor of an old abandoned Yin mansion. Yang Mingyuan mysteriously appeared in the mansion after a car crash where he tried to find his daughter and his search continues in this game too.

You will explore the mansion at crawling speed while collecting clues, journal entries, and dialogues from the past. You will also need to solve puzzles to advance, unlock locked or sealed door and interact with spirits.

The game introduced combat system. At the beginning you will have to hide or run away from the spirits but when you acquire weapons you will be able to defend and attack. Each spirit has several lives and thus needs to be shoot several times. The spirits have weak points when they attack, so if you shoot them at that time you will just need to shoot them twice. Otherwise you'll need to shoot 4 times. There are jars of wine scattered around which you can use to your advantage as they will explode and take down a spirit/paper doll nearby. There are boss battles in which you will have to take down one spirit several times before you will be able to seal it away. These can become frustrating depending on your skill at defending or attacking at a precise moment. The good thing is that you now have one additional life, so you can take one hit. There is a way to cure yourself, which may be needed during boss battles.

The game also has autosave feature but it's not that great. It will autosave before a major event but only once during the playthrough. The game won't save after that event so if you die right afterwards you have to start all over again.

The puzzles were a disappointment for me in this game. It may be because I got used to the style from the previous game and did not find most of the puzzles intriguing or fun. There was just one puzzle that I enjoyed (mirror room one). I solved half of the puzzles by trial and error and half by just following instructions. Most of the puzzle clues seemed irrelevant to me (if the talisman is confusing to you, all you need to do is set it to characters that are written on the seal).

The game is longer because the play area is larger (two floors). I was afraid it would have negative impact on the game but I found it well balanced. You won't need to be running around like crazy searching for something since what you need is most of the time close to the location where you need it. Later on, it won't be that way, but you will also know where to go with the item you received. It won't take you that long to reach the place. I'd still recommend saving the game close to the location you are going to visit next and memorizing the plan of the floors.

As for graphics and sound. I found both good. They are better than in the Paper Dolls: Original. The environments are more detailed and even more atmospheric. The sound is better, primarily due to the fact that you won't be going through door that often and because the voice acting is done in Chinese. I wouldn't say it's great but it keeps you immersed in the game. Music is great once again.

Verdict:
The game has nice feel, graphics and sound. I'd enjoy just walking around the mansion in VR. The larger map may be upside or a downside, but I found it well done. Combat is something that frustrated me through majority of the game. I spent 3 hours running around the mansion and 9 hours in combat. Spirits have different behaviors but once you get them you shouldn't have much problems with them. The puzzles were disappointment as I did not need to use my brain (mostly used it for fights in which I terrible died because I'm incapable of controlling the protagonist). I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone, but if you enjoyed the first game you will most probably enjoy this one too (I didn't but still finished it for the story - the Yin family story concludes in Paper Dolls 2).

Note: There are cutscenes in the game and they can be skipped by pressing Escape and E.

The story can be quite confusing and a bit chaotic. In my final video for this game I explained the story if you

I really enjoyed this game a lot. I do find the first game much better than this one. The fear factor in this game is not as strong as the first one. This game is about 4-5 hours long to beat. It was nice to finally figure out what happened in the story of both games. The puzzles were much easier to beat than the first one however, there are some parts to the game that didn't get translated to English making some puzzles trial and error. (For example, the compass is still in Mandarin which makes it hard to use.) Overall, I say it a great game to play if you are curious about the story and love to solve puzzles.

Classic Chinese horror game. Good for culture broadcasting

Folklore Guy
Folklore Guy

A tense, beautifully atmospheric horror set within an ancient Chinese manor house, Paper Dolls 2 places us in our protagonist's unenviable shoes as he wakes up, magical dagger in hand, alone and lost, trying to find a way out and make sense of his terrifying predicament.

Right off the bat you'll start having to figure out out puzzles and manage resources, while navigating the dark and foreboding halls of this ominous but still beautiful manor. You'll discover journals, ancient ritual texts and overhear distant memories of previous occupants, all the while trying to avoid the frightening denizens, once residents, who met various disturbing ends and now haunt the house.

The atmosphere is easily the best thing about Paper Dolls 2. The dimly-lit corridors, eerie rooms of the previous owners, creaking wooden floors and the absence of clearly indicated objectives reinforce the tension masterfully. You'll be creeping around corners, and hastily skimming documents for clues, when the sound of footsteps out in the hallway will send you to the nearest closet more often than you'd like.

And speaking of clues, the absence of proper translation here and there, while definitely giving the game a unique feeling, will also cause some serious frustration when attempting certain puzzles. Deciphering Chinese characters in mouldy pages while trying to connect their relevance to a puzzle will either be an exciting challenge or a recipe for a headache, depending on how you like puzzles. I enjoyed the difficulty for the most part, and it definitely added to the tension, although I had to look up the translation for the compass tool, since it plays such a big part in the gameplay.

The gameplay, or what essentially amounts to avoiding ghosts, with occasional conflict and the odd chase scene, is not anything special. It feels a bit clunky and can be annoying, especially with how easy you die. But since the game isn't that long, it's an acceptable trade-off, since combat is not encouraged. And when you get to shoot that ancient Chinese blunderbuss after a successful counter, it's a blast!

The story is quite dense, but by paying attention to dialogue and finding journals or clues, it fills in an interesting and tragic tale that fits the creepy setting. By leaving the dialogue in Chinese, coupled with the authentic feeling of the manor and all the notes and items you'll encounter, Paper Dolls 2 has a real, genuine sense of its identity: scary, absorbing and over too soon!
