The premise of the game looks great, but the gameplay fails on its face.
1)The pace is insane. You can only do 2 things per day, and the story rushes you like crazy. You have to train techniques, meditate, read books, level up stats and 4 arts and rest of course, while you're constantly interrupted by your team members or plot.
Need to get stronger for an upcoming exam? You need to spend 4 actions on techniques, 4 on rest, 1-2 to get money for medicine and 5-6 for training 4 arts\leveling up friendships. That's 17-20 actions. Did i mention the game only gives you ~13? 3-4 of these are taken away by your companions forcefully taking you on some useless stuff. What? You want to train with more than 1 weapon? Good luck with that, as you will need additional 15 turns for that!
2)Combat is a damn slog. The animations are slow, the ui cut ins ("Your turn!" "Enemy turn!") take forever. The damage you (and your enemies) deal is miniscule. Your enemy has 1k hp, while you deal 50-70 damage per hit, and they keep healing for 80 each turn. Granted, you heal too, so this turns into a super slow meat grinder where you spend 20 minutes clicking and watching the same animations, while you slowly chip away your enemy's health 5% at a time.
3)The game supposedly has a choice mechanic, which doesn't really affect anything. At the very beginning you're presented with a choice, whether you want to be a righteous hero, or ruthless vigilante. No matter what you choose you're still stuck with the first route. At least for the first half.
This game should be fan for people who enjoy min-maxing their gameplay experience, as it has huge potential for that, due to many hidden items and events, so if you're a veteran who knows the game inside-out, you can pretty much plan your whole routine to achieve maximum efficiency. Sadly i like to explore all the game mechanics. The game forces you to either forego anything but one thing (i.e go full martial and skip all friendships/four arts) or spread thin and end up with crappy mediocre build that doesn't damage anything. In this situation i'd rather not choose at all.
The amount of story content in the game pales in comparison to tales of wuxia (TOW), their previous game. It is surprising this came out of EA considering this game is still missing around 40% worth of story because it ended so openly. No plot points where actually addressed, the three routes the game tries to give doesn't even change that much in the story. There is also a lack of maps you can explore compared to TOW. The combat was improved though compared to TOW but it does not satisfy cutting off 40% of story content especially because the replay factor is also worse considering there isn't much difference on the three routes you can play.
Compare this to TOW, an old game that basically has 3 school years (which is basically just this game) AND a 2nd half where you basically graduate and roam the world. Not to mention that game has 3 full cities, each with their own little quests that you can do and you can return to the cities on the free roam part. There are also a lot of different sects, sect competitions, etc. Best part of all is that it has actually DISTINCT endings so you don't feel like you are just repeating the whole game again with a few new cutscenes in the end. The 2nd half of the game is a huge chunk of the gameplay and is unique on all endings. I would just recommend that game instead if its latest update didn't ruin it because of the trash censorship. If you can play past that then just buy that game instead. Extremely disappointing considering they already made such a good game.
This will receive a negative review until they actually wrap up even just a single important plot point with the free dlc they promised. Even then I am against gutting content just to finish it through paid dlcs as that is always bad practice but will let it slide because I can count on 1 hand actually good wuxia themed games that are in english or has an english patch. That is if they can actually finish this unfinished game through dlcs.
So basically if you played TOW, better combat and worse everything else. Story is unfinished, lack of exploration, and lack of actual routes that matter. If you don't care for censorship just play TOW instead and wait to see if this game can actually be finished (through dlcs mind you).
Thanks to the efforts of the translation mod team, I was able to enjoy this game so much that it's now one of my all time favorite games.
It has a great OST, easily digestible story with plenty of epic moments, secrets to uncover that expand the world, plenty of replayability because your choices matter, and is full of interesting and likable characters.
I highly recommend this game 10/10.
Yet another good game developed by Heluo Studio. There is no official English translation, but a fan translation for the full game is ongoing.
Good turn-based combat, decent visuals, but with a slighlty less interesting story. The games goes back to the more simulationist aspect of Tale of Wuxia, which could be off putting for some, but a lot of fun to me.
In short, if you are a fan of the studios' previous work, I think that you will enjoy this game, too.
One of the best Chinese Martial Arts games out there, Path of Wuxia is an RPG with a lot of difficult choices, unpredictable plot twists and colorful cast of characters. As well as one of the best if not the best martial school simulators on PC overall (I still think Persona 5 and Fire Emblem 3 Houses are slightly better, but they are not available on PC).
Path of Wuxia combines stat management with tactical turn-based battles, as well with many dialogues that are mostly not linear and affect the outcome based on youe choice. The progression may appear linear to those unfamiliar with similar games - but in fact it is not. Developing relations with certain characters, doing specific missions as well as some choices in these missions affect the events of the game and the game world drastically. It is not so evident in years 1 and 2 but is very evident in Year 3.
The English language officially is not supported, but there is a fan patch, so far year 1 and 2 almost fully translated, year 3 in progress (but still has machine translation so if you're ok with that you can play Y3 as well). Download and install it here: https://discord.gg/ztQ4APdNwB
Overall: 10/10 Definitely a must buy for any RPG fan who enjoys choice & consequence games as well as turn-based tactics and character management.
Path of Wuxia is an entertaining wuxia cultivating game that trips a bit at the end but otherwise offers players a rich and engrossing experience. The amount of content in the game beggars belief as you'll want to replay the game endlessly to complete all the side-stories paths.
This game buckles down on the sim-training aspect of Tales of Wuxia (the developer's previous outing) as opposed to the generic JRPG format of the pre-sequel. Train your character and watch as he/she and your NPC friends grow over a 3 year time-span with multiple plotpoints and perhaps a few too many characters.
The combat is simple to grasp, but with tons of different martial art styles to choose from there's always a new strategy to try out. I do suggest starting with Hell difficulty because I still found the game easy-ish on a first go at this level.
There are many side-quests that you can pick up on which enrich the theme of the game (destroy evil or give evil a chance at repentance) and just adds more flesh to the many characters. From fun dumpling festivals to facing the consequences of letting a bandit live, there's a lot of thought-provoking subplots to chew on in this game. They do repeat form time to time but hey at least its good.
A downside that I may point out is that the game's potential choices don't make too much of a difference in the endgame. Don't get me wrong, there is a difference (unlike Tell-Tale games), its just not as much as it could've been. And perhaps there were too many plotpoints to close that the ending isn't as fulfilling it could've been. But its still decent enough with good emotional payoffs. I would only ask the studio to make more endings like Tales of Wuxia! At the moment, there are alot of secret endings for when you fail. Have secret endings for completing secret questlines!
Although not quite as good as Tales of Wuxia, its still a solid 8.5/10 for me. Do give the game a buy if you liked the company's previous outing. Don't mind the surge of negative reviews, you'll notice they're mostly from the Chinese fanbase and was done out of anger when the final third of the game was released earlier this year with bugs.
To Heluo Studio, thank you for making an amazing game and please keep making more while polishing Path of Wuxia.
You've probably seen everyone's comments as you want...
In fact...I intend to wait 2 years before commenting.
(Probably developed around 2 years as expected...)
The story is very meticulous. wide view... There's still a lot of space left for imagination.
(Good for the brain) that lead to something more profound...
No wonder why... Many players react to your game. which are both understood and not understood Maybe because the space in the plot was too wide that many players couldn't fill it up. But that's the direction you go and there's still plenty of room to improve the plot even further...
As for the OST, this is a very good exotic for foreigners.
BUGs and minor problems in that game. Think of them as obstacles for you to overcome.
I was very impressed the first time I saw Ling Wujie...
standing in the middle of the courtyard…
Excuse me... we've known each other since the previous universe(?)
...still waiting for me?!? And the rest of the people(?) are all here... LOL so clever...
(it's so hilarious I can't stop laughing In fact, I'm very happy.)
This first 3 years? Looks like it's just the beginning, right? Knowing that you can still write more stories...
Although I still have almost half of the achievements left to find while waiting for the full release. But hopefully the Devs team will add more DLC in the future. My money is ready to fly to you... LOL
Anyway, Why can't I find that Route(?) yet...? I'm curious.
It sounds strange to be a comment from a player who doesn't understand Chinese very well and is still learning English...
...need support? You got it! Cheer!
I really like this game. As many have said this is similar to the persona series in regards to improving stats, relationships, and skills. It also has the wildcard aspect of the protagonist. The game does not currently support English unfortunately, but there is an English mod available thanks to the hard work of some fans. Now I the translation isn't perfect, so please don't be disappointed at some oddities when translating. However, it is still fairly comprehensible.
Can't imagine how the game would look like if it gets the same amount of investment like other 3A games. Great foundation and core there, just hope it could have more expansion.
Two years already, but the game is still in early access lol. The game is really good, but updates are slow and small. I recommend to buy this game, but does not recommend to play it now. I recommend wait for another 1-3 years until the game is fully finished before playing
The game continues to update. I really appreciate that.
relatively bug free and plot can be touching in certain moments.
It's an overall great game with a lot of innovation in Wuxia world. It's being heavily criticized by it's pilot development in the 3rd year, which is in fact a little bit sloppy when comparing to the first two years but nevertheless still a great year overall. Hope the game continues with more DLCs and keep expanding the Wuxia universe in the future.
Thought it was really boring wish i could refund it.
It is my first HeLuo (developer) game and it leaves me strong impression. The game is simulation and tactical RPG. For the one like Fire Emblem, he would like this game too.
In my opinion, the story discusses the difinition of justice in an ancient (or semi-virtual) time where law is incomplete. The player makes several moral decisions on whether helping the people who are aggressively and sometimes violently against the authority.
There also imperfection of the game especially near the end the game where pace is slightly fast. However, it won't hurt itself as a wonderful game.
If the game currently only have 1st and 2nd year then it's a good EA with potential. However we got the 3rd year and the whole plot / story went eight directions in a bad way. It seemed like the writer or writers didn't have time to flesh out character motivations / story developments for one reason or another.
The gameplay part of the game is serviceable, except the 3rd year part. Again, it's somehow rushed despite the lack of a deadline.
Will come back to this review in month's time. Fingers crossed.
This maybe a personal thing but this game is really really good, its story its quests its character choices, if youre willing to deal with an ongoing fan translation effort and some minor bugs this game is great.
PS: i recommend you download a trainer for this game ONLY to freeze the time and give your self some extra days to see more of the game in one playthrough.
Excellent game as usual by Heluo Studio. For fans of the Wuxia genre, this is a must-buy game!
Loving everything about the game. Really looking forward to the full release and an actual English version (even though the English mod for it is very good). I'm a huge fan of RPGs and Martial arts so this hits home with me. The customization is on a greater level than many other games and the choices you make are meaningful. Many AAA games could learn a thing or two from Path of Wuxia. If you are looking for an engaging RPG and don't mind playing early access games this is a great buy.
This game is pretty great. If you're english speaker there is a mod for it. This is the most fun I've had in a while with a cultivation fantasy. Can't wait to see more.
Game is all right, but a bit out of date in story. The system is referring the Persona 4/5, unfortunately the controlling is too old either. Perhaps it's just because I am getting old, but I'd really not prefer to spend time on it.
Although currently not a complete game, still strongly recommend due to high flexible choice on wuxia path from the begin.
I am a fan of their first game Engaging story about morality with good character development . I have enjoyed it so far. I think it is much better than their 2 previous games. Compared to 侠客风云传, still some way to go but you wont be disappointed. And the music i think is pretty good. Atleast for the first year.. the second year is not too shabby but can feel the change in music direction.
My main gripe is the need to develop your main character's 性格. Feel that it is redundant and i think complicates the game while without adding any value. Also, so far in my first play through the development of 琴棋书画 seem pretty useless other than to develop your 性格 to unlock your companion storylines and missions. Lastly I have mixed feelings about the combat / basic stats system. I feel it makes learning of new combat skills less important since your damage output is determined largely by your stats.
Also it is in Early Access for over a year now.
But yeah i will recommend it because i feel that the storyline is engaging. Not sure whether they will release the game in English or other languages though.
good. one of the nicer chinese games that is released in the recent years
Kinda like Persona but in the Wuxia theme. Pretty decent game.
In short, this game encompasses the true depth of wuxia martial arts and spirit and is a great improvement to the basis and systems established in Tale of Wuxia. Takes a certain level of experience and knowledge in wuxia and martial arts to appreciate this. Every single playthrough puts you on a completely different path and completely different martial arts exposure, its so refreshing! Even a different combination of teammates on the same mission can unlock different scenarios and rewards!! This game removes all the unnecessary time wasting "features" of other games like its previous Tales of Wuxia and fate seeker by removing exploration, walking around etc and focus deeply on a time period by time period character building without having to waste unnecessary time to grind for XP or what nots.
UPDATE AFTER 40 HOURS!!
Ok, this game is much much deeper than it looks. This is NOT a casual playthrough game just for its story. If you do that, its just a short 20 hours game so far. What this REALLY IS , is a min max character building game where given a very restrictive time line and limited resources, you have to build the best wuxia character that you can. There are so many tricks and nooks that you need to follow a play guide to get all the secrets and unlocks in order to build the best character possible! This brings me back to the old gaming times where strategy guides were essential! So far, I spent over 40 hours just playing and replaying just year 1 of the game and just restarting when I feel I am not getting the build that I want after the critical 1 year in game time. Yes, this is what this game is really about, not a linear playthrough game for the story but a min max character building game for geeks hahahaa
AFTER 50 HOURS!
OK, this is a stats game 100% hahaha and a very fun one. Once you get fully into the stats optimization, you begin to look past the lack of graphics, customization, free roaming gameplay etc. In fact, the game provides you only just enough context to play with the results of your customization without anything extra... extras like, free roaming etc etc. Just build your stats over the time constrain and then bam, a scenario to play with your new capabilities and then a period to build your stats again and then another scenario to play with yoru new capabilities. This is in essence the real gameplay of this game and its FUN.
AFTER 60 HOURS!!
After 60 hours, I still have not have a single playthrough which I am completely happy with the build nor have I created a build I feel is fully optimized! I cannot count how many times I have restarted! LOL! By this time, I care nothing of the story line anymore, the game becomes completely just a stat based character building game with a very very very tricky and strict character building system with extremely limited resources to play around with. If you are looking for a good wuxia based character building game with deep focus in the character building itself and not so much the story nor graphics (story is amazing but after 26 playthroughs...er... hahahha).
AFTER 70 HOURS...
I still wanna restart the game and build another character... this is going to be my best character ever!!! (Also, remember to pump your teammates... if they keep dying, you not gonna unlock the best rewards either...) Also, this is when I learned more about the developer and what that legendary man has been through over the past few years, made I want to buy a second copy of this game just to support this guy... (bought the OST DLC just to support the game development)
AFTER ALMOST 80 HOURS....
Completed the game (year 2) with a character I can be proud of at last and experienced the most heart tearing, tear jerking but beautiful epic ending ever... cant remember when the last time I cried to a video game... this is one such moment.
(time to restart with a new character... I still think I can build one much much better character hahaha)
AFTER ALMOST 100 HOURS...
I have yet to build a 100% satisfied character.... sigh... time to restart again with a new idea...
Very good game! Kinda similar to Fire Emblem Three House but it has its own Wuxia culture and background, which makes it very special. Good story lines and character developments. Since it's still in EA stage, there are still a few flaws. For example, it crashed some times during my 27 hrs of play time. And I really hope they can solve the fixed camera issue. It's kinda annoying especially in battles. Overall I think this game is great, and very likely to become a 9/10 game after it's done.
Love it. Have a great journey of Wuxia!
If you are a fan of wuxia type of story, high chance you will enjoy the story.
The 3rd year is very disappointing and feels rushed harder than cyberpunk 2077 on the release day. The endings and choices has been hyped during development during 3rd year feel like they did nothing, whole ending is a mess. And person responsible for writing characters during the accursed 3rd year failed to show depth of Characters.
I recommend the first 2 years of game but just go ahead and either skip the entire 3rd year or don't play at all as it just feel insulting to the playerbase
Recommend with anyone. English patch is pretty good
Despite the small size of maps, this game still offers a lot of content in its EA stage. The game has two types of gameplay, management and combat. You will decide how you want to spend your time in the academy, and your efforts will be reflected in the combat. You will see how your character grow stronger and stronger, from a nobody to a hero/heroine.
Really good story line and different SRPG style.
The best game RPJ turn base I've ever played
A great Persona-fix and one of my favorite games.
This game is so awesome I cry at certain scenes. So much replayability as well
This is a great game for turn-based RPG enthusiasts like me. It's story rich, has good values, and you learn a lot about Chinese culture. Fans of the infinity engine games and early Fallout should give this a try. There's a mod that can be easily installed to play in English. Don't miss out on this gem!
Plot: 10/10
The story is light at the beginning. The atmosphere is like combining classic chinese wuxia and harry potter's hogwarts. The first year is mainly about setting the stage of a wuxia school. You can feel the characters' interaction and growth. The later half of the first year and the second year are when you really see the conflicts between different values held by different parties. The story is not rushed. Everything unfolds gradually and naturally. The twist is great. The arguments by different parties are solid. The characters are not like some (many) of the JRPG characters saying cringy and cliche stuff. Their beliefs are well justified by their past experience. When you are asked to make a choice on who to support, you may struggle a bit.
The choice made by the player affects future events and options (i.e. if you choose not to save someone, he/she will die and no more quests/rewards from him/her).
You can choose who to make friends with. The plot will also become slightly different. And some lines by other NPCs will also make much more sense (or at least you know the hidden meaning) if you become more friendly with someone.
But since it's an EA version, it's not sure how much impact it (Decision made by the player) will have on the ending.
Game play 9/10:
The key play is to schedule your day (Basic training, learning martial arts, learning medicine, learning cultural stuff, make friends, doing sidequests). Every activity is useful, depending how you play. If you get closer to a classmate, he/she will become stronger. If you focus on basic training and learning martial arts, you become a one-man band and almost need to clear the enemy alone, since your classmates are pretty weak. There are up to 8 different classmates. You can form different teams. And you can learn different martial arts. Even if you learn cultural stuff, you can still get some good martial arts from it. So there is a rich variety of styles. The combination is sufficient for you to try several rounds without getting bored.
Combat 9/10:
The combat system is a turn-based chess game. There is an element system. So you need to choose the right character to fight the right enemy. Every fight is strategic and variable. It does require the player to think about who to kill first and where to move. Most fights have a target mission and some have extra missions. If you can finish the extra missions, you can have extra rewards. Most of the fights are not long. The pace is good. Difficulty is just right for me. Some boss fights and side quests with good rewards are challenging but not impossible. (You can choose the difficulty.) Overall, the combat system is sound and logical.
Most of the buffs and debuffs seem to be a bit weak. It does not feel like it makes a difference on the fight. I think it is a waste because they have designed a bunch of buffs&debuffs, linking different martial arts. (i.e. spell A can cause debuff X, and spell B can cause extra damage/debuff Y if the enemy has debuff X). My experience is that damage is the most important factor. So I choose the martial arts based on the damage rather than the combination. (Some combinations very fun though.)
Game design 10/10:
There are different aspects you need to cater for, not just martial arts. There are classmate, culture (painting, chess etc.), stats, character (bravery, patience etc.), side-quests, equipment and titles. The developers have done a great job in integrating all these systems together. For example, doing a side-quest can help you get closer to a classmate, raising your stats and character, getting a better equipment. This gives a very enjoyable playing experience. And the game is replayable.
----------------------
The functions of some features are still not known (e.g. getting closer to the teachers).
But overall the game is amazing. You will be absorbed into the wuxia world. Story is great. You can feel the tension. Character development is natural. Combat system is solid. Strongly recommend to anyone interested in wuxia world.
----------------------
The game is supposed to be replayed several times. Unlocking steam achievement will allow you to start stronger (higher stats and more titles). I would suggest new players use an excel to record how they play (timeline, activities, rewards of side quests etc.) . It makes the planning much easier and so that you don't have to save-load multiple times after the first round to get what you want.
support heluo, the best wuxia game studio ever!

So I have to be a man to love a woman? Thanks, no. The game is amazing in some ways, but not this way.

Eh, will not recommend until they finish polish the end game. Went from decent EA to unfinishable mess with 3rd year content mostly untested before release. EA wise, 1st and 2nd year did the trick. Game wise, 3rd year put it in a worse, unfinished state despite it being the supposed conclusion. Give it until the end of year to review/recommend again.
Really like the idea that the righteousness is not simply defined by 'right' or 'wrong', but a combination of making your own choices, sharing the recognitions with others and following the good heart you trust the most. We learn the path of 'Xia' and explore the path of "xia'.
Wonderful journey, wonderful game
Each month section [ first, upper, medium, lower and end cycle per month with total 10 turns included day and night ]
- Side quest mission, personal training, music and art development etc
- Relationship building also to unlock the individual companion story and DPS skill move
- Main story plot in Mar, Jun, Sep/Oct and Dec
The timeline management of this game
-Not enough time to accomplish all the relationship building for each and every companions and their story plot.
-During walk-through game play, your decision-making will sacrifice/skip some of the tasks in order to accomplished another.
-3rd Yr final battle, you will realize all your companion will get KO easily due to low-level in relationship building for lack of unlock their full potential DPS skill move.
Both main and companion story plots are emotional and touching. Unfortunately, the timeline mechanic had ruined our fun to enjoy the endgame product.
Well, It's still EA. I won't recommend due to unpolished mechanic and bugs. I truly hoped the developers will do something to improvise the timeline mechanic and the balancing of the game.
I love games on Chinese martial art. The RPG story is legit and touching, as Heluo always achieved before. Especially I am probably too old to play any action games, this kind of chese-type game fits me.
support taiwan game from malaysia
Gameplay for the first 2 years was good. But the 3rd year was horrible. I stopped playing halfway.
A much worse version of "Tale of Wuxia" without the opportunity to roam freely on a map. It has a friendship system like Persona 4, but most characters feel more like colleagues than tight-knit families. The whole story, or the so-called path of Xia, revolves around the debate on whether you should kill the villains. The problem, however, is that players are often forced to choose between two extreme options that don't make sense at all.
Ideological polarization in this game is worse than that in the American society.
After almost 700 hours of play, I've finally completed all 99 achievements, no cheat codes used, plenty of S/Ls. I played in Chinese so I don't know the names and terms used in the English version so I'll make them up as I go.
The key to this game is good time management and planning ahead. If its your first round, just jump in and have fun. It's fine to miss stuff when you're new to the game. Just enjoy trying out various skills and get yourself familiar with the plot. I certainly won't recommend looking at walkthroughs or even cheat codes - they will spoil your gaming experience. Detailed walkthroughs are work of seasoned players who have tried various strategies. They're more useful for players looking to refine their gameplay.
I like this game a lot, else I won't be able to sustain the numerous rounds required to attain all the achievements without using cheat codes. The turn-based combat kind of reminds me of Civ which I used to play long ago. If you like the style of this game, check out the other games by the same team. I'm also a fan of the Sword and Fairy series but at most I've played them 3-4 rounds so to have more than 10 rounds at this game speaks volumes about its appeal, at least to me.
Basically there are 3 years and each month is divided into 5 parts, day and night which makes it 10 turns per month. Some tasks are mandatory while most of the time you have a choice on what you want to do with your time (run a mission, train, practice, relax etc). To fufill the pre-requisites of some missions, you need to watch your development carefully. There are also random events that can pop up when you do an activity to give you some extra boost. In the first 2 years and the first half of year 3, time is very tight. Its quite a challenge to maximise the tasks you can do. And with each round I find better ways to strategize.
Friends wise, its pretty impossible to have all 9 of them at L7 by the end of the game. I've managed 6 at L7 (Shi Kun, Cheng Yong, Nan Fei Huang, Duan Hong Er, Jing, Xiao Qian Ling) and the rest I chose to forgo - Zhong Ruo Xin L3, Shangguan Xu L2, Wu Zhe L1. Mainly because I didn't fancy their storylines. So, 6 friends at L7 is managable, with an overall stats of 2300, each character traits between 650 and 790. 2 artistic skills at high level (zither 600+ and paint 1000). This was achieved without the beginning bookworm trait but with the ironman trait - quick note that the penalty for the artistic skills is quite severe. Without it I usually can level up 2 artistic skills to high by Nov year 2 but with it I only managed one and have to leave the other till May year 3. If you're willing to settle for lower stats (below 2k), I'd say bookworm is a better choice. It's also possible to do nothing much but train and get your stats to 4k so you finish the enemies off in one strike but what's the fun in that?
Skills wise I really like the long range darts. I would recommend to start with Za Yi and switch to darts mid term. Early rounds I used to like Pole (for Lao Jiang's freeze) but after trying out darts I never looked back. The paint skill with the pole is good too, long range and immobilises the enemy. I much prefer the zither/paint combo to the chess/calligraphy one. Better AOE in my opinion. Of course the Mo Ran Gong is very popular but I prefer the Xiao Yao Jing which allows you to strike twice. The way to go is to learn a variety of skills and switch weapons during combat. I usually go with Sword (Yu Yun), Knife (Jing Yue), Pole (Dan Qing, Jiang Shang, Jue Ni, Feng Ye) and most of the darts. Medic is unnecessary because enemy isn't really that strong and anyway you have friends that can do the healing.
Plot wise it ok. Obviously its not perfect. Some friends missions are somewhat under developed, I'm not too fond of the 3rd year's october battle between Duan and Chu although I didn't find it difficult to win Duan's side. That could do a rework. Mu's battle was good though, especially if you can get Jing, Hong Er and Cheng Yong to L7 but the choice somewhat makes the storyline incomplete as you get told in the background what happened in the other battles without actually fighting them. A little disappointing too that the main lead's origin and connection with Ling was left unexplained. And it's getting old to have everything linked to Sheng Tang again. Friends wise I like the development of my favourite character Cheng Yong. Obviously he's the one the developers paid most attention to. Shi Kun is also not bad but valentine's day was terrible. I'd wish they did more with the couple relationships too - like add on some lines with different couple combinations. Even a friend at L7 could have some battle lines. The final battle too, can be more challenging. Even at the highest difficulty level its possible to get through with stats of about 1600 only. Well obviously you can do it all alone and not bother with any friends but what's the fun in that? Which is also why I never use cheat codes. They just kill the fun. Admittedly it can be tiring to reload for the teacher to appear for the artistic skills (mid level is worst) but I still get a sense of satisfaction when they pop up. Some achievements that are attainable mid game, you can roll back the clock once you're done (like Dao Heng's) so planning is key.
I also enjoy playing more as the female character. There's some additional options and Cheng Yong's L6 and 7 really caters largely for the gal. Jing's L7 though, is more natural if you played as the guy, with the gal its rather wierd so I do hope the developers come up with separate tasks depending on gal/guy.
I also think that some missions can be changed to taking up no time at all, instead of half a day. Like the teachers admiration missions, the final skill lesson, the dumpling festival missions, missions to level up training to the next level etc.
Definitely lots of improvements can be made. Nevertheless I still had many hours of fun with this game and probably many more to come.
Excellent game. If your English Only the translation patch located in the first/top steam review makes the game fully playable from start to finish.
