After a while the game gets repetitive and even going in different saves with different ships, it all boils down to- shoot thing get money.

All right, so this game won't even start a campaign on my PC, capable of Witcher 3 on Very High. It just says "Loading" for 15 minutes (maybe more, I'm just tired waiting), and nothing happens after that. I'm very displeased about buying such a product, which is not even playable, still selling on Steam.
100% of not recommending this to anyone.

I really enjoyed this game, The conbat is good and the trading system is grate. The game definitely has a lot of potential, all it needs are a few bug fixes and som more game mechanics.

TL;DR It's something between 'promising' and 'don't buy for the next year'.

The combat mechanics is WASD+space: sail in circles and hold-release space to shoot. There's also an option to set the enemy on fire - you shoot to a bit advance point. It's ok but fun wears off quickly.

Metagame is not offering much. You have a choice of only 6 building and progressing with them is strictly numerical. New ships don't offer much new enjoyment either, new abilities would help a lot. And you gain new levels by paying money. Missions are not particularly interesting as well: DHL, find something, kill someone.

If the version number 0.1.2 means it's at 12% of content then 100% may be quite enjoyable. But at this rate the game will be in Early Access for another year or two. In its current state I recommend this game if it's on sale and if you are really starved for games like Sid Meier's Pirates and Windward.

Very fun little game, i voted for this on greenlight and then realized yesterday that it was released. Played this for a few hours had a lot of fun. There are some small glitches but thats expected. Keep up the good work. Would recommend :)

It's............ ok. I've been playing for nearly 3 hours now and it's already starting to get really repetitive. Worth £10? Probably not but as Steam doesn't have a "maybe" category then it's getting a thumbs up because it is enjoyable.

Loving this game. I think it captures the good part of Sid Meier's Pirates! and throws away the rest. What it does capture is the awesome broadside battles of pirating .. with a generous dash of extras (Fire shot, City building, ninja sharks, and rolling waves).

For an early access game, it has quite a bit to offer so far. Looking forward to them adding wind and different sail levels ...

DUCK
DUCK

Some things it does decent.
Mixed review, creating it negative since most reviews are positive.
Also that, the later game it becomes dull.
"just to balance it out a bit for reviews"

Building and resources for me feels a bit, like it doesn't matter.
A few things about the building aspects are a bit fun, also feels a bit cheap.
As it would maybe need some more complexity or reason for you to expand or about doing what you do.
Like either you have too little resources or plenty of them.
You can build around your dock for where it got space, and capture small islands or city ones for resources.

Having only one map/level, makes it feel small or uninteresting after some time.
With some lack of variety.
The different sharks and ships can be fun to combat, but quickly becomes a bit tedious.
While the game has some sharm in it's visuals.

A simple but still a fun game. Not as deep as similar games like Sid Meier's Pirates and it gets quite repetetive after some hours. But for 4 dollars (at the Steam Summer Sale) I had great fun playing it for a couple of hours, well worth the money.

Able to down countless legendary pirates, easily killed by a small shark.

I know this game is in EA but it just isn't that much fun. Sharks kill me faster than boats and there are way more sharks than boats. Going pirate (which is a temporary thing) lets you quickly get renown up but has little other benefits. I was hoping for a pirate style Beyond Sol but this is nowhere near that. For me I just can't reccomend it.

This is a quite nice game but it took only 4 hours to figure out how the game is works and then you are looking for if there is more and sadly you get bored because you should do same things again and again.

Ahoy mates, this here prize be filled with riches. It be easy to the eye, it be excitin', and there be a kraken! Now many of the features be not workin', but as implied, it be early access. This don't mean it be no fun to play because it is ye lice infested sea dog!

A fun little game with maybe 5 hours gameplay (single player) if you are keen.

I liked the game, it was easy and enjoyable. Definitely worth $5.

The little sea battles were fairly straight forward but fun and the trading was good. This game is best suited to a younger audience as it's simple. Building your little town and needing certain resources to expand is a nice aspec and should be focussed on. Coming home and getting better ships is rewarding.

Things I didn't like: I want wind. I want to sail and tack and use the wind to fight, not drive around a boat like a car.
The map was small and exploration fairly pointless. Also needs a big boss to defeat rather than just renown points.

Here is a little history lesson for you: the developers also created a little game called Beyond Sol. I and many others loved it. They didn't always have the fastest progess, but it was an enjoyable game. I shared a lot of good times with friends over that game.

Unfortunately, our fun ended with about half the features we wanted and about 75% of the ones the devs wanted. No explanation was given for dropping it, well, no good one.

History repeats itself with this game. Only the backing by the fans isn't really there. So the progress isn't there either.

Buyer beware, they will probably drop this one as well.

If you thought Windward was a good/fun game...wait until you play this one. It is superb.
I had to edit this review, just now. Finished a 6+ hour multiplayer game vs 2 more humans & 1 AI. Pure fun, extremely stable...quite possibly the best 11 dollars I have ever spent.

Here's where we draw the distinction between games with points and game binging junkfood.

It's functional, it's playable, it's even somewhat enjoyable- but there's no point. You sail around buying and selling goods, attacking ships, and fighting sea beasts but there's nothing you're working towards except for better ships to do more of the same and in the same way I dislike MMO's as we simply grind for the sake of more grinding, the nautical theme can't salvage that for me.

I need a good story, a way to make my own story, or at least a world that reacts to me. Otherwise this is nothing more than a pretty world with some functional but uninspired mechanics, music, and gameplay.

This game. Has so much potientional, more then we realise nowadays, I recommend this game for all who had played sid meiers pirates and others who love pirate games. This game offers you to choose between "two sides" which you always can change through (pirates and "good guys?"). You start on a randon generated map which a decent medium sized island.
On the island you build your own harbour OR as I would like to call it if you're a villain, a big pirate cove. You build households, taverns and resource fields so you can upgrade your port to higher level to proceed further into the game, yet you also establish defences in case pirates raid you (good to start of doing early). There are no speicific missions or campaign for you to make this game senes for you to play if thats what you want, though there are quests that allows you to gain gold.
Enough with the base information, not only can you build your base, so can you with ships, there are 3 "classes" of ships with 5 different ship choices.
scouts
Warhips
Tradeships

They all possess 1 unique abillity that will favour you in battle.

If I should dislike anything about this game, is probably that it really feels like early access (limitations) but I really hope that the devs add more features to this game as I said in the beginning, the game has a lot of potientional.

Dorjef

Wait till it's out of Alpha to buy this unless u want to suport the dev team with this early access project. Because its a physics based game u will get very annoyed with all the shortcommings, like the escort's u hire keep getting in your way obstructing your ship from turning which is vital and a big problem in skirmishes!! Your secondary shots dont go where your aim is and, and a lot of other minor bugs, lag, Someof the menues like the Tavern menu lags to a halt during storms and rains, which happens often. Money imballance. You get way too much money quick and nothing to spend it on. And so on...

O Grindy
O Multiplayer doesn't invite players to interact with each other.
O Raiding is near impossible due to swarms of bounty hunters combined with respawns.
O Can not steer the steering wheel

- Complicated Multiplayer setup / No Master server. Requires Port-Forwarding which not everyone is able to do
- Limited Multiplayer Character creation (Can only replace one of the ai players. Can't change my or my ships name, the ai will already have spent all the starting ressources)
- Buggy:
- Textures of buildings just disappear after a while
- If you steer into a corner it's near impossible to steer out again
- Escorts getting stuck everywhere (when you have two escorts they'll literally keep on sailing away from you for hours because one wants to steer left, while the one to the left wants to steer to the right)
- Questionworthy game-balance
- AI players are very weak and slow (I used a difficulty which would translate to something like "difficult")
- The game either punishes you by random death or is no challenge at all
(- my 9-star escort dies to two bounty hunters while being stuck at a reef)
- Little content: Due to the grindy nature of the game you might extend a match to a couple of hours, after which you'll already have seen everything

Admittedly, if the devs had fixed the bugs (to which I found entries dating back a year) and given more care into the ai I would have recommended this game.

A gem need polishing. You compete with other players on gaining fame and wealth over the seas. You need to be good at sea combat but stratergies and business talents are more important. You can choose from various playstyles such as colony, merchandising, beast hunting, bounty hunter, and of cource piracy. Multiplayer game would be fun and challenging although in current version you can only play with your friends.

Played a few rounds with AIs and felt the game still need some balance tweaks. Below are a few balance suggestions for Devs:
1. Charactor balance, Scarlett with 20% speed is definitely the best starting character in the game. Loot and damage boost with certain condition are just not so worthy (except damage on pirate). Pls buff others and add more diversites such as firepower/cooldown/cargo space/trading price/manuever/skill dmg etc.
2. Balance between pirate/normal mode. Being a pirate should be risky, but its just too costly in current version. Here are some easy tweaks. 1) Dock protection, the worst thing during the pirate life in this game is a dock ambush, which is stupid and frustrating, especially when you get flamed the moment you fixed your ship. Please let AI ignore docked players. 2) Ruby price should stay around 200, as a pirate you get a lot of rubies, the only luxury good in the game, which should have higher trading value than other goods. Higher price volatility is acceptable but in my case my island buys ruby only for 50 and the pirate port buys for 100, which really screwed things up cause as a pirate you cannot trade in other ports, and there is not enough storage space for hoarding in early game.

This game is simplistically fun with great a piratical atmosphere. It is an incredibly cheeky game, so it’s worth reading the quest descriptions. Although It’s currently quite a small game, it has a few actual challenges and just enough content to warrant a re-play as another character. The game has great potential to be a stand out, ‘must play’ quality pirate game.

10/10 In memory of the pirate ship, The Bootychaser.

Great game for the price, passes the time quickly. As of now this game is listed as release on steam, however I don't believe that this version was ready for release. There are still obvious balance issues, problems with the building, defensive towers don't work (on your own island), sharks are too fast and built like ironman.

The Good

    • Great pixel art
    • Good game pace
    • Music
    • Building system is easy to understand
    • Makes time fly by

The Bad

    • Obvious bugs that hurt gameplay
    • Buildings don't play a bigger role in the game
    • Some creatures are impossible to beat with certain ship loadouts
    • Trading system feels underwhelming

In saying all that, pretty good for a low price game. I hope the developer continues adding to the game in the future.

Caliber

Played it a bit and its alright. the ship AI needs work with not bumping into allied ships and preventing you to turn. in VERY EASY mode the sharks are stupidly OP, you run into one of those at full speed and you're dead. attacking sharks is pretty damn hard even when you've completely very easy mode with the best ships. there is some graphical bugs when you're docked and your screen is slightly away from the island it makes the icons on land spaz out. there's also a huge problem with clipping buildings inside each other. was able to fit multiple 2x2 houses clipping inside each other in a tight area to maximize the amount of workers i can get. allied ships need work in general, if i have a 8 starred ship, I expect that thing to be a beast and not get destroyed by plowing into bad AI and instantly destroying itself. for a game that recently came out, i dont think its worth the 8$. might be a little too expensive for a really small game that you can grind through and complete within a few hours. updates that will help would incude AI changes (allied ships keeps a distance away so you dont run into them and prevents you from turning and keeping at the same pace), hitbox changes (i get caught on alot of the ships and is unable to attack or get away), sharks to be slightly nerfed so they arent completely invincible, clipping of structures and icon spazzing, eventually after awhile of playing when you enter a tavern the game lags HEAVILY until you close it, be more flexible with upgrades.. would kind of like a ship that i can fully upgrade to whatever stats instead of a set price.

Overall needs work. Playable but there is game cheating bugs that can give you good perks. Not sure what's causing the heavy lag issues with the tavern after you complete single player mode but that needs fixed.

[Recon]The Famous Zombie Hunter
[Recon]The Fam…

Overall, I'd definitely recommend Pirates of the Polygon Sea, although it has a couple points that definitely need improvement.

- First and foremost, FIX THE HIRED SHIP AI!! Hiring Escort/Companion ships is damn-near-suicide, as every time I hire them, they ram their ship in to mine and then seem to knowingly and intentionally sail against me in such a way that I can't turn any direction; I slow down, they slow down. I full-speed ahead, they full-speed ahead. I lost what should have been a won battle to a Leviathan because a f***ing ally ship rammed me in to it as I was desperately attempting to evade.

- Some more ship customization would be nice; Being limited to your number of cannons and one special ability you have no say over beyond what ship you choose is rather annoying. With all the sharks being otherwise unhittable unless you let them eat your ship to their hearts content, it'd be nice to be able to outfit a combat ship with the merchant vessels rear-barrel-drop ability.

- Oh yea, as stated above; Sharks. Even with the fastest ship, fighting sharks is a f***ing chore, as NO ship turns fast enough to be able to actually fire on them without simply slowing down, letting them deal their max-damage to your ship, and then turning to fire on them as they do a circle away before coming back to repeat the process. The ONLY exception to this is if you have escort ships (Who will probably just push you in to the damn things, to be quite frank), or if you are using a merchant vessel that can drop explosive barrels behind you, in which case you're probably slow enough they'll catch you anyways.

- You need to be able to get your gold back from pirate raids on your town if you manage to kill all of the vessels. The only apparent way to prevent losing gold is if you teleport back and immediately destroy the pirate ships, both of which are impossible. Unless you're literally docked in your town as they attack, it is quite literally impossible to destroy them in time to prevent losing gold. It's just a rubbish game mechanic.

Other than that, great game. The economy fluctuates unpredictably, ship-to-ship combat is trivial but enjoyable, the game has multiple levels of difficulty, the higher levels of which definitely present a challenge even to skilled players, the graphics are simplistic yet smooth and pleasant, quite a variety of enemies given the game type, and quite a few different things to do for ultimately being a match-based game (Rather than an extended strategy game like Port Royale).

7/10, would recommend. DEFINITELY needs some polish though. If the above issues were addressed, I'd whole-heartedly give it a 10/10.

Conczin
Conczin

Simple, calm and funny game. The graphics are neat, gameplay feels smooth. Worth the money, however the amount of content is rather small. Ships feel all the same, since they do not gain different weapons on upgade. There are only a few events and therefore there is not really much to explore while traveling around. You can hire a fleet, howeer the AI is terrible, always ramming you and getting destroyed in the first battle, because they attack everything they see and wont flee if low on health.

I'm looking forwards on updates, I like the game concept a lot.

Lacks any sort of uniqueness or depth to be enjoyable. There is only few building options for your colony, no leveling of character, no upgrades for your ship other than buying higher tier ship or ship of different class (3 ship classes, 5 ships each, none really unique), combat is simple as you only have one cannon ball type to shoot with in addition to 1 special weapon for each ship class.

Only 1 winning condition (get enough prestige and money to buy max title for yourself) and, as far as I can tell, you can't destroy your enemies completely (each of my opponents had buildings I could not shoot. I reduced each to like 1 building and they were able to rebuild).

There are also multiple annoying bugs like being able to place buildings on top of each other; after playing awhile opening tavern menu causes FPS to drop to 1 rendering the menu useless until you exit and restart the game and after you destroy AI fort they build it deeper and deeper inland. Also as far as I could tell, the cannon towers never shot at anyone so what's their point? I sat next to them multiple times shooting at them without being shot back and my own never defended my colony from pirates no matter how many I build.

Considering many better pirate themed sailing and sea trading games out there, I don't see any reason to pick this one over them.

It had potential but the scammer devs abandoned it, and only 2 hours into the game you realize you cannot buy better ships - so you are stuck with level 1 ships for the remainder of the game just because the devs have not added the new ship content.

Please be careful before you buy.
The scammer devs have time since 2 years to put this game on sale and rip people off, but they have no time to continue developing it.

Have reported on Steam, and will follow up with more reprecussions - scammer devs will not be tolerated any longer.

Nice if you've never played a pirate game before. I have though. I prefer the generic ones on mobile stores because I can control the ship with the gyroscope.

Pirates of the Polygon Sea is a bog standard seafaring game, abeit with a lovely bit of personality and style. I love the look, the bouncy characters that I only really see in the menu, and the world, but everything else has been done better elsewhere. I mean, I bet there's a reason the tutorial is mostly non-existent. They know you've played this game before.

I'm still recommending this game because even though there are a ton of pirate games out there, at least this one is a little bit different in the style of presentation. If you've never played a game like this, this one is a fine choice. If you have, don't bother unless you're just collecting for the sake of collecting.

It's hard to not recommend this because it's close to being fun, but it sadly isn't there even for the discounted price. I was super hopeful having loved Sid Meier's Pirates and thought this would be a great knockoff of it. Instead of being a competitor it's the discount bargain bin brand that says it's got the same stuff but it seriously lacks any of the depth. You can literally see the entire game in the screenshots and trailer. All of it. There are no surprises waiting for you or deeper things to explore it's just a sim to sail around and waste a couple of hours on. Even being able to cheese the old Pirates game is more entertaining than this.
