Dont like the fact a creature can kill you through a solid metal wall and closed door, that is game breaking and immersion breaking instantly. BAD game mechanic. Fix this and maybe ill play again... until then its garbage in my list!

A light sandbox, not to complicated, good for just chilling and casual gameplay.
Progress is slightly stale after a while with
survive
unlock
gather
build up
gather enough power to generators to power up the sun
explore the planet
end game

But i still recommend it to anyone who want to just enjoy the play without having the need to max out over the head

This is one of my favourite exploration games!
This could be a best seller, better than Rusk or Ark, but seems the developing company need new leadership...

PROS
-Amazing graphics
-Mysterious story...
-Physics and buildings
-Biomes

CONS
-Game needs updates from developers
-Craneballs needs to interact with the community
-Craneballs need to hire a marketer to make this game popular

If you already created an amazing game, it's so s-tu pid to abandon it.

I do really enjoy this game however, I wish that it had more features for construction such as furniture for bases. It would give bases more enjoyable. I do realize that the main goal is exploration and I do enjoy the game but it would give the game a more realism effect.

This game crashes every 10 min to 30, 60 min. I try files vertifaction, restart PC, Update graphics RX 480 drivers to "optional". Nothing help. Always crashing time to time.

I rewrite rewiew to now recoomend. I hope this FIX will help for maybe someone else. GAME DON'T CRASH ANY MORE! Maybe i find fix try:
-reset BIOS SETTING'S to default,
-Use program Advanced System Repair Pro but is NOT FREE. BUT MAYBE CAN FIX GAME. You need to buy this program legal or illegal download fo free. Your choise which road you try. I be silent about recommend which road to chose.
-Reset OS SETTING'S in Windows 10. To do this you must go to
1.click windows settings
2. click update and security
3. click recovery and click ON advanced startup. Computer will reboot and than display "blue window" with setting's.
4. Than clicking around to find reset windows and than click KEEP PERSONAL FILES!
5. wait Procces is complete.
6. Than you must go to system disk with OS and windows.old there you can COPPY APP DATA TO RESTORE SAVE GAMES, CHACHE'S... THIS STEP IS OPTIONAL! I recoomend this step to prevent LOSE ANY PERSONAL DATA but is NOT REQUIRED.

It's a decent game. If you've played Subnautica, expect something similar. There is a kind of overarching storyline, there is good reason to build multiple bases as well as mobile units, and there's good reason to do lots of exploring. That said, I feel like the game could have been more optimized. Where Subnautica has more pseudo hard limits on how fast you can go (and therefore allow the system to populate landscaping in the distance), the steam template flying units are... faster than the game is prepared to load, at least at any sort of decent resolution. So you can outpace the loading of landscapes with a decent unit. But the fabrication system works decently. The building mechanism works and can be a bit clunky, but isn't excessively cumbersome, given the large diversity it gives you.
Separate note: I think something like this in VR could work well, but only up to a certain point.

They need a kinda recommended option, because I can only kinda say this is worth your time. If you can get it at a discount it's worth it. The game feels EA even if it's polished. The game crashes often for me but your mileage may vary. No mods, but that may be a good thing as you don't have to wait for mods to reload after every crash... Which will happen, at least to me, every freaking hour.

What it does have are all the basics for resource gathering, base building, factory design, and exploration. It does most things very simply compared to games like Space Engineers or Empyrion. This can be good and bad. For instance a good thing being harvesting resources with the multi-tool and building from the same tool, there is a separate scanner, mover, and pulse rifle. Compare that to Something like Space Engineers that has separate grinder and welder, which given your opinion may be more immersive or tedious. A bad system example is the inventory. No sorting, organization filters, and very little automation. It's seems like it's setup for major factory production as once you get standalone miners you can get thousands of ore in a small frame of time, but no real way to organize things.

Building and resource gathering is fast enough. Machines that craft and refine cannot be sped up or augmented in anyway so you just need more of them to make more things. Vehicles seem wonky but that's every game I've ever played that didn't put emphasis on accurate simulations, say like in racing games or realistic flight sim games. Vehicles are unforgiving when flipped. Flying vehicles seem to kinda auto correct.

There are no real spaceships. There isn't a way to go into space. The thrusters on the first ship wreck are fake. As far as I can tell and have read, the infrastructure for all that is in but doesn't exist in a playable way. If you had even one solar system with the promise of interstellar travel, but also enough variance and dynamics in the planets and the space mechanics, it would be worth the full price.

I probably shouldn't think of the limitations as compared to other games, but It feels like a mix of half-ass Empyrion and half-ass No Man's Sky but without the vast galaxy for you to explore, which for a space game is a bit of a, "why you do this and name your game Planet NOMADS?!" kinda thing, but whatever. I'm close to 50 hours and still interested so it has to be recommended, but with a strict attention to it feeling like a graphically polished Early Access but no longer having that label. Seems like updates are happening but not with the things I addressed, however new things are being added. They just added a teleporter recently but I have yet to unlock that. So now I'm going to go run around for things to scan and discover... so there is fun to be had though it's a bit shallow.

Addendum:
This review by Liam Dawe would probably be how I feel if I had been part of this before 2020: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/planet-nomads-has-left-early-acc…. I never was part of the kickstarter and got into the game in 2020, which is maybe a bit late to jump in. It remains to be seen if they give this the support and updates it needs, it may turn out ok. Great sandbox/exploring game for Linux!

As you can see by my play time, I've really enjoyed this game. Jump to the bottom for reasons not to buy it (what it isn't).

Short version, this is a:

    • Great sandbox game for building buildings.
    • Great sandbox game for building vehicles.
    • Great sandbox for exploring an algorithmically generated planet.

Long version:

I love the way you can build any structure or vehicle you can imagine with the components provided in this game. Just browse through the community blueprints for some examples. A youtuber ("BCP Labs", no affiliation) made a bunch of cool videos some time back showing how versatile the mechanics in the game can be (and how flaky, at times).
I finished the game a year ago, but have been wanting to go back to some of my named saves to experiment with the ending, as it appears there may be multiple different endings to the story (if you want to complete the game, rather than enjoying the open sandbox).

This brings up another thing... I hate cut-scenes. I want to play a game, not watch a movie. This game has very few cut-scenes, but instead builds the story through logs and notes you find and (eventually) audible feedback from... (*not going to spoil it*).
This is also one of the things I enjoyed about the Portal series - you're *in* the story rather than the story being in your face. Granted, the story is not nearly as developed as Portal 2, but probably comparable to the original Portal.

While I was originally playing this (I bought it fairly early on, but I wasn't a kickstarter), the authors released some interesting updates. "Air blades" gave you the ability to create aircraft. "Hoverpads" allowed you to make some really wild hovercraft (and things that can crawl the ocean floor and up mountains better than wheels). These improved the game quite a bit, although I admit I had a huge amount of fun circumnavigating the planet in a hot-rod I built (search youtube for "Planet Nomads fast & versatile mobile base") before you could fly in the game. In that manner, flying almost is a detriment to the game, as a huge amount of fun is designing a vehicle that can handle any terrain. They also released more powerplants, like the deuterium generator and the ability to recharge batteries (previously you had to reconstruct them). These were also transformative as it allowed for much lighter vehicles (my older hot-rod, mentioned above, has a uranium generator, which is much heavier and larger).

A few days ago the authors released a new addition to the game, which has the ability to transform it yet again.
I thought the game was no longer being developed, but it looks like they're still at it.

Also, early on I reported some bugs and the authors were amazingly friendly and helpful, usually whipping out a fix in a matter of days or even hours. Other game devs could learn a lot from these guys.
Keep in mind that I only run Linux, and these guys treated me like I was one of the window-using masses, so this really is a big deal.

For reasons NOT to buy this game. Don't buy this game if:

    • You want a first-person shooter. This game has only a single weapon, but it's weak, and you have to build it. The animals don't hunt you (they only defend their territory) so they're usually easy to avoid (though they may be guarding something you want/need). This is not a great FPS game, as it's not meant to be. You can use the animals as food if you want, but don't expect anything more.
    • You want multiplayer. This is a solo/single-player game. This will not change as it's enormous work to rework a game for multiplayer, and re-balancing a game for both single and multiplayer is impossible (see ARK for a perfect example of how horribly wrong this can go, and I love that game!).
    • You don't like building/exploring/sandbox games. This *is* a building/exploring/sandbox game.
    • You want to go into space and go from planet to planet. You can adjust several aspects of the procedurally generated planet (which has a seed, so can be reproduced), but you cannot travel from one planet to the other. You can get off the planet, but that's exploiting a quirk in the game-engine. Don't expect to find anything out there.
    • You want a perfectly bug-free AAA game. This game has a few quirks (some are actually fun to design for), but they're not bad enough to take away from gameplay. It's not AAA, but it also is a tiny fraction of the cost of one.

Ok. I was really hoping for something like Emperion. I love that game, but this.... the premise is there, but the interface is clunky. It crashes. It's hard to build which shouldn't be since it's a main feature in this game. Just not impressed. I knew the reviews were mixed when I got it so I took a gamble. Don't waste your money.

Dont Buy.
this depends on your playstyle but if you are like most people, dont buy it.

to start off: game looks very cool on store page and you might think this is really the game for you. sadly i cant refund but ive tried to give this game a second chance a lot of times but it never really gets me. you could say this game is like No Mans Sky at launch bc this game really has the potential but it never quite gives the experience you would expect from it.
second of all: graphics have changed since launch but they have only gotten worse (not much tho).
if you can get this for 5 bucks on sale then it might be worth it. but for the price of 19 bucks the developers are basically stealing from you.

Bought it a couple of days ago because of the "Official Release" Update.

You know, i played them (mostly) all, that Space/Survival/Free Exploration Games like No Man's Sky, Osiris New Dawn, Astroneer, Empyrion and so on and i have to say i basically had fun with Planet Nomads. The Story is very light, but in most of these games this isn't so important at all. It has some nice mechanics, for example i like the way they implemented their "Conveyor-System".

The thing is, i think Craneballs had not enough experience too make the dream come true they had, you see that very often in the game, it feels very "basic" and "early" with not so much depth to it (in comparison to the other mentioned games). You see that "We wanted to and tried, but we couldn't" very often. for example at some point they wanted to add other planets you can travel to - you cannot. Then you'll find several structures in the game, which didn't make it to the final game (engine limitation, not enough time/experience, ...) for example Thrusters and Fuel Tanks. Another example is the Radar, it wasn't usable for a long time i read somewhere, but you could find it ingame and now they made it "usable" but this is the most useless Radar i have every seen - it only shows a topographical image on the map, no pointers/markers and only a range of 2km (the planet you play on has 24km from north to west), this also feels like "People complained it's not in the game yet, so let's implement it in the most easy and basic way)... The Game overall feels "rushed", everything is there, but only the minimum so you wont complain about it, for example (Caution for Spoilers):

- Only 6 Enemies, only one Weapon (beside the Multi-Tool)
- 3 different Wheels (but only two of them behave differently)
- Base (/Armor) Blocks are very limited in comparison to Empyrion (Slopes, Angles, ...)
- Just a Basic Color Palette to color blocks and you only can color the whole block, not individual sides - also no decals, text or other possibilities
- Hunger/Thirst is there, but VERY easy to handle since it drops really slow and you can regenerate it by sleeping (who thought of that?!)
- 3 different Generators which are also really easy to maintain (the fuel is easy to come by and runs a very long time, for example my final flying base had a Deuterium Generator with fuel that would have run around 500 realtime hours even while flying and everything "on"
- All blocks have HP but nothing can damage it (enemies, driving into something, falling down, ...), only the player can be hurt - this completely takes away the fear of dying to something, or the need to build defensive structures for your base or creations (not that they where any...), you simply drive over every enemy in the game, even the most basic/simple/small buggy can kill the most powerful creatures on the planet by simply driving into it...
- Automation is there, but also very basic, for example there isn't a "produce infinity" button, you have to enter 999999 into the queue line...

In my recorded 46h of gameplay i did exactly one playthrough of a survival game with all missions done and at a moderate play speed. I built one base, 2 wheeled Vehicles (Buggy + Mobile Base), 3 Flyers (Scout, Miner, Flyer Base) and with the Flyer Base i basically did the final part of the storyline (till i built the flyer base i was already 50% through the story quests), so you can take that as a refference for your playthrough.

A couple of hours in total felt a bit stretched and empty, so i would say i had around 40 hours of "real" fun, so for me 19€ is an ok price for it because my calculation always is: 1€/h fun without seeing anything double (so multiplayer games or games with high replayability and so on dont count) is ok, so for this game i would have paid 40€ at max - or 30€ because of it's current "basic" state.

Also, what has to be mentioned is, the game has some kind of a memory leak... the longer i play and the further i travel it gets more laggy... saving, closing the game, loading it up again fixes this. For a "official 1.0 release" this isn't acceptable, but i could live with it.

Planet Nomads is a charming game to look at. That's about it.

Those looking for an immersive, cohesive experience full of mystery and intrigue, this is far from it. If you can get past the sluggish movement, the user interface problems (eg. the inventory screen forgets container order no matter how many times you set it), the onslaught of on-screen exposition, and the game regularly ignoring your sound settings, what you find will make sure you stay on the outside looking in.

With so much written lore popping up all the time, you'll either starve to death trying to read all of it, or you'll live not having the slightest clue what storyline the devs want you to know. Playing on Survival mode, I was the latter and couldn't give even a hint of what's going on. Not that it seems to matter as the only thing the story is for in Survival mode is to lock machinery essential for your survival, so I hope you like railroads. Quest or die.

In an effort to get deeper into the game than I did several versions ago, I disabled aggressive plants and animals. While the plants are subdued, the animals seem to take offense to any man-made structure (made by the player or pre-fabricated wreckage) and will attack you unprovoked. I assume this is something to do with the animals clipping into the block and taking damage from the borking physics.

In any other game, getting attacked by random creatures is part of the fun, but in Planet Nomads it's all punishment. The game starts you off with a simple laser cutter/welder, and no gun. So when you're attacked by a rampaging animal that thinks your new rover is the ugliest thing it's ever seen, your only choice is to use your cigarette lighter. It takes a very long time to kill even one of them. Pray you didn't park near a nest. In this entire game, there is ONE gun and you won't unlock it for a very long time into the playthrough.

This is not the game you want if you're looking for a space survival experience. This is just tedium.

If you're looking for a creative environment to build various kinds of vehicles and automated bases, what's here is a schizophrenic physics engine with poorly explained design choices. When designing your vehicle, you can only pick two of these three: Cheap, Fast, Productive.

Your starting vehicle will be some form of land rover. If you try to make a moving base right away, you'll get a truck that can't climb a bunny hill. You can either invest in expensive technology upgrades to make it move easier, or you can gut all the heavy stuff from it, leaving you with a twig on wheels. Neither feels satisfying.

If like me you're the sort to set up a base and use aerial vehicles for retrieving things from nearby, you'll come up against two constant problems: 1. It doesn't matter how careful you are about weight distribution, your aerial vehicle will handle like a shopping trolley with all bad wheels. 2. Conveyor systems are broken, horrible things that require a lot of pain to get working on any mid to large scale designs. The game nearly crashes every time you change connections on even a small conveyor system, and no matter how carefully you adhere to the grid system, the game can decide that your conveyor pipeline simply doesn't work. It won't tell you where or why, and the only possible solution is locked behind a super-late game resource requirement, so that's helpful. *sarcasm*

I've been patient with Planet Nomads, I've given it several big versions worth of time to sort out it's bugbears and I come away, not only disappointed, but annoyed that the developers seem to have doubled down on irritating design choices and almost ignored their problems.

Horrible Optimization

Planet Nomads looks great according to the Screen Shots and Videos but in practice, it leaves a lot to be desired.

0) Optimization = I don't play on a potato, so on High graphics the game does not max any settings. On low graphics, it barely registered, but it still suffered rubber banding, lag, frame drop offs and crashed constantly. Wait until you see what the tires do when the collision engine is stressed. The poor optimizations is not in the graphics, but in the physics calculations / coding.

1) Minimal control over Grid Snaps = Building a mobile structure you start with a deck, then add walls and finally a ceiling. The catch is, by the time you reach the other wall the ceiling is not connecting to it! There is a small gap that doesn't register as a clean snap. That is unless you want to fill all the void between the floors and the ceiling only to hollow it all back out when you are finished with the structure. Blocks only snap if the next part to the surface you are attaching to is within a few snaps of that surface. Thus if you make a big circle it is impossible to connect to the starting block. This can create additional collisions inside you structures especially when parts of your structure are connected to hinges or rotors.

Example: Base wheels do nothing when they don't touch the ground and mobile bases are often wide. To get good traction you need as much spring articulation as possible. On a base this may not always be enough. Creating a forward axle can allow the steering wheels to articulate. This is functional, however, one hinge can glitch out and separate from the frame. Using two vertical rotors can resolve this because one acts as a checks and balance for the first. The catch is, nothing on the other side of the second rotor will snap to the original frame.

2) No effective way to transport small vehicles. If you do make a mobile base your bikes and small rovers cannot be secured for transport. I tried making retractable clamps that locked down on the tires and frame, but the smaller vehicle rattles free or the hing gives out from the bouncing of the rover, and the wenches do not have a hold feature to dangle your rover at a predetermined height. The cable has two settings (On or Off) and when retracting it tugs on the cable violently. Your only options is to create a BP of your rover and destroy it every time you are done.

3) Weights are all wrong = A nicely modeled 4x8 prefab wall section weighs substantially more than common blocks filling the same space. This means more collisions and rendering surfaces which places far more strain on the physic engine. Optimization: Big parts means fewer parts (in total) that your Physic Engine has to track. Planet Nomads when in the opposite direction. To make things light for climbing or flying, you have to use a lot of tiny blocks that look like a toddlers attempt at legos.

4) Poor selection of shapes = The basic blocks are limited to less than most games that offer this style of player sandboxing. This limits the shape and detail of potential designs while increases the collision and calculations.

5) Parts that you can salvage but can not make? = Tankers, Thrusters, Wings... All scrap metal from the grinder. They are already modeled but we don't get access to build them?

6) Story light = Aside from the PDAs there really is not much to do. Avoid hostile Flora and Fauna, upgrade your gear, search for designs you don't come pre-equipped with, and scavenge / mine minerals. After scanning the Alien artifacts your only option is to mill around doing what you started out doing all by your lonesome.

7) Single player = The best part of games like this is sharing it with friends. Working as a team to accomplish the goals. Nope, you play with your self and there is nothing to do but make bigger things that will likely crash the game.

Overall I cannot recommend this game. It is circular, uneventful, strictly solo, and full of bugs. Empyrion is 100x better with the same basic concepts. Planet Nomads feels like a complete waste of money and time.

Short Summery:
Still feels like it should be early access to me. But they are still updating it witch is nice I've seen a bunch of these kinda of games get "released" without any meanful update. It plays kind of like a hybrid of Subnatica and Emperion. If you like those kind of games you will probably like this as well. My biggest complaints are little things like the AI voice sounds like a text to speech program and wanting some more detail with the in game scanning journal (subnatica really spoiled me for asthetics like that :P) But you can build with a lot more freedom and from what I can tell it seems like the whole planet is explorable.

Nubby Ninja

So after playing Valheim I come back to this because I remember the terrain manipulation being one of the founding enjoyable features. Cutting a tunnel through (or mostly) a mountain was very fun. There was a LOT of time spent (obviously) on vehicle mechanics and very little spent on wildlife as far as I can tell.

That being said the game features a vast procedural world. An entire planet you can traverse and explore. Build massive vehicles, circum-navigate the world, and create wild imaginative vehicles.

Weapons seem limited. You really only have 1, and upgrade it as you go.... wildlife diversity is also limited. Don't expect an immersive experience. The majority of the fun is crafting vehicles.

Is the game bad? No. As far as I'm concerned it's quintessential to own this if you enjoy procedural/voxel terrain exploration sims.

Just because of people leave reviews without even glancing at the discussion section.
- the game is still worked on and updated
- they ran out of funds, but are still working on it, hence why development slowed down
- the game was taken out of early access, because of visibility problems in steam store searches
- there are still bugs ingame, lots of them have workarounds and they get fixed slowly

Summary:
Read up on the discussions, maybe watch a gameplay video. Vehicle physics and building is quite good. Wildlife is a bit lacking.
Buy the game, if you like the current state or see its potential and are willing to take a gamble, if it will get fully used in the future.
Otherwise put it on your list of "games to check in a year or so".

Planet Nomads is the type of game that subnautica players, who want to actually create their own vehicle from their imagination, would love. This game obviously focuses on the vehicle mechanics and not much on everything else. The graphics of Planet Nomads is passable, not really much to write home about. The average play through of the game is quiet linear, but the unlocking new system to get new parts/base structures is weird and may cause frustration in some players. My general take on Planet Nomads is that it feels like an early access game that has not been significantly updated in a while (in is in fact not in early access… awkward). From a value perspective, I would only buy this game on sale.

Pros:

    • Excellent vehicle construction and customization
    • Decent Terrian/world to explore (not really anything too special)

Cons:

    • The tutorial does not teach you everything you need to start out
    • Th UI looks well.. kind of bad
    • Limited number of weapons/food/ and items in general
    • Very short game in general… took me about 3 hours to basically be done with what I wanted to do…

What the game needs:

    • A better tutorial
    • Multiplayer
    • More items

It took me a little time to learn the game mechanics/controls etc but once I got to grips with this I enjoyed the game and played it through to the end.

The game was mostly stable; I had a strange experience with the audio on one occasion. The game never crashed on me but it has a funny bug... once you start using transporters then, when you restart the game your character re-spawns at the last transporter you used. This scan be inconvenient if you actually left the game with your character & vehicle(s) a long way a way from this point as you then have to walk half way around the planet to get back to them.

The game is similar to Sub-nautica in that there is an early, mid and end game; once you escape the planet then you have effectively finished (although the game does return you to the planet and you can carry on 'open world' style if you want).

Wish you could co op with a buddy but otherwise I had a good time playing this game. Fun figuring out how to make a FAST hover with enough carry capacity to be useful. Fune building terrain vehicles and wheeling the terrain. Fun digging my own underground areas and building bases above, below and off the ground! Mining made easy with autominer machinery and collections.

Survimad
Survimad

Not a bad little game. Nice story that leads to an end. Some minor annoyances but overall it does what it says it will do - open world / survival / crafting / vehicles and base building. The environment and creatures can be a challenge, but there are few deaths, just watch where you stand when using a winch! Vehicles also provide some interesting challenges, but flying is the only way! :-D

MettaurEX
MettaurEX

A great sci-fi open-world-survival-crafting game where the focus is on building, engineering and exploring rather than fighting and levelling. A big feature is the ability to construct freeform bases and air/land/sea vehicles from all kinds of blocks; you can even build your base into a vehicle like a helicarrier or massive barge (see the workshop for examples). If you like the idea of mining for resources, converting them into parts, and designing and building a quadcopter motorbike out of those parts and then flying around an alien world you will like this game.

Positives:
- Can build all kinds of vehicles, land, sea, air and hybrids from freeform blocks
- Base building is quite flexible as well, and you can build massive mobile bases
- Save designs as "blueprints", upload them to Steam workshop, subscribe to others' designs
- Blocks have a lot of setup flexibility (e.g. suspension can be adjusted, wheels or rotor blades can be set to swivel in different ways for steering)
- Blocks can be dismantled for their component parts, so you can rearrange your bases and vehicles and experiment with different designs (and salvage wrecks you come across)
- As well as a tech tree progression, you can learn how to build new stuff by scanning wrecks that contain tech you haven't learned yet, which makes early game exploration feel especially fun and meaningful
- Uncovering the half-buried stuff in wrecks is fun too
- Blocks can be placed in a freeform way and also snap together well
- Automate production with conveyor belts between different buildings
- Flexible switching system to manage power distribution networks
- Good balance of slow-renewable (plants, animal nests) and quick-non-renewable (mining rocks/crystals) sources of resources
- Managing hunger, thirst, fatigue and temperature are key to survival
- Dealing with hazards like poison attacks, toxic alien food and radiation are also required
- Lots of wrecks, monuments and other POIs to explore
- Discover backstory through character logs, System Shock style
- Tutorial integrated well into the game's intro
- Multiple Endings

Negatives:
- Performance isn't great (not terrible, but still quite low framerates even on minimal settings).
- In particular, vehicles can go faster than my system can load segments of land and if I got too fast I can drive off the edge of the world into the abyss
- Some of the writing in the character logs is oddly repetitive
- Combat is a bit lacklustre
- Some of the suit upgrade effects and environment effects aren't that clear/obvious in the UI
- No XP-based progression, only item and block based
- Personal equipment batteries are used like "ammo" in a rather jarring way, given the use of rechargable vehicle batteries. Ammo is amazingly low capacity and expensive to make for such a high tech background too.
- Little variety in some areas (e.g. only a few foodstuffs and drinks)

I did enjoy the game. After all, 100 hours is not nothing. The main complaint that prompted me not to recommend it is that it was buggy yet no appearance of support for fixing the bugs. I was unable to move past a section in the game (near the end) so I feel that I've wasted my time. If I knew it would not be completeable I wouldn't have purchased it and spent all the time on it.

Crazy Minh

A long time ago, I was eager to buy this game. I was new to Steam, and I saw a game that offered terrain deformation, vehicle building, base building, the whole shebang. That game was Planet Nomads, and it's sad that this game is the way it is.

The most depressing thing about Planet Nomads is that it has all the inklings of a good game. It has a decent art style, that- while generic and mostly bland- helps sell it's world to a passable degree. The music is peaceful and relaxing, and fits the game's calm demeanour rather well. The gameplay is functional, and vehicle building has surprising depth and interactivity. The proceedural map generation, while not the best ever, is functional, and can create some memorable environments.

But this game is one of many that has been callously abandoned and orphaned by it's developers. It seems that the devs just gave up and released V1.0 without ever:

- Fixing the attrocious performance (even way past reccomended specs, this game runs like garbage. Hell, I've seen games that are far more demanding graphically and in terms of memory run better)
- Finishing implementation of the alien structures and story elements (As of current year, the alien structures, crashed ships, and other landmarks are nothing but set dressing).
- Made all of the blocks and equipment avaliable to the player (you can find crashed shuttles in the environment that feature parts that are not avaliable to the player, such as thrusters, specific structural parts, and other cool things).
- Give gameplay any sort of direction or purpose other than 'build ridiculous vehicles and drive around a empty landscape'.

As someone who payed money for this, it feels like the devs took my money and ran away with it. The game is blatantly unfinished, and all of the recent "updates" have been bug fixes and minor balancing tweaks. There's no new content, no fixes to the performance, and even the bug fixes trickle out at a glacial pace. There is so much potential here, and so little care given by the people responsible for making it.

I bought this game because it promised something I wanted. I did not buy it so that the devs could spend their time twiddling their thumbs and not actually making their game functional. 4/10, do not buy.

This game is all about discovery and exploration on the planet you're stranded on, build better vehicles so you can explore further and try not to succumb to that feeling of loneliness and boredom that easily sinks in after a few hours.

The crafting and exploration part is excellent, if a little "default", however. You scan certain blocks to find out how to make them yourself and you can build some pretty awesome bases and vehicles, even a flying, moving base if you wish.

That loneliness and boredom however is because the world is very repetitive and empty, there are very few creatures to encounter and the only interaction with them is to scan them once and kill them for food.
NPCs also seem to be something this game lacks, but maybe that's for the better seeing as you ARE stranded on an unknown planet.
In my opinion the best way to improve this aspect would be to either have a few reasons to domesticate animals for their resources or simply implement a co-op mode to have someone to distract from the repetitiveness and constant grind.

TLDR; not recommended. There are better survival crafting games out there, with more story and less lonesome grinds.

I like this game a lot. I enjoy the value of creativity with the unique building blocks available.
I really wish that there could be a couple things to implement such as more unique building blocks and a "Flip" option to flip a vehicle over (both land and flying vehicles) without having to completely disassemble it and re-assemble it back together, or an option to vertically re-stabilize a flying vehicle back to being upright if it accidentally flips over.
Aside from those 2 considerations, I am genuinely enjoying this game for what it offers so far!

This game is just lacking in anything other then a hot mess and feels like it was built by a kid that was bored one day and just felt like throwing a few hours of game programming into a quick no frills game. it does work kinda but very lack luster performance and it feels like a 2d side scroller gone wrong. no solid game play and it was such a let down. save your bucks and grab anything else.

This game has the potential to be immensely fun. Unfortunately, the construction system is flawed to the point where conveyors — a major part of the game — are so broken that it makes the game painful to play. It's been like that for years, according to other users' comments. I will consider updating my review to a positive one if this problem is fixed but until then, I recommend staying away.

Ironsulfide

I'm not done playing this game because there's so much more to do. Current play time is 58 hours in Survival mode.

I've built a large base and have three vehicles so far. One fast land rover buggy built for speed, one land rover buggy with attached Thermoregulator for going into extra cold and hot biomes, and one flying machine for far off recon and material gathering which also has a Thermoregulator.

The planet has numerous POIs (points of interest) where you can unlock additional craft-able machines and story elements. Reaching these are my main goal now so I can try to unlock the drill bit and automate my ore gathering.

As for automation... this game has some very useful ways to configure your base to make things much easier than manually doing everything as in the beginning of the game. Using the Conveyor transport pipes, I can now manufacture anything at my crafting tables without having to put the necessary ores into each table, they draw instantly from storage when needed. Also, using the wireless Item Dispenser allows me to build anywhere on my base without needing any materials in my personal inventory. And lastly, if you dig deep enough, you will always reach the furthest point down which is the water table, not bedrock. This allowed me to gather water right next to my base with a super deep hole using a water extractor and tall conveyor pipes leading straight up to the surface.

I love this game, but you should check out forums, and youtube to get an idea of what you're getting into.
There are bugs. Some are, but not limited to, the use of different powered blocks on the same vehicle. I just learned that if you use two hover jacks, it propels the vehicle into space. Once there, do not try to retrieve it. The wreckage goes nuts, and moves around. If you build a flyer to go up, it will get snagged into the wreckage and glitch out as well.
Do not use a rotating joint, along with a pivot joint. The two together glitch into veritable insanity. They will go into space, and if you get too close, the flyer you're on will also glitch and become part of the wreckage.
Do not use small and large air blades on the same vehicle, and I assume that also works for small and large suspension systems. The calculations make everything go nuts.
And if you're on a save that you enjoy, create a backup in the save menu. Every day that you decide to close the game, save first to the backup, then to the primary. If you should log back in the next day, and do something that will cause a loss of a vehicle, your backup will be ready to save you. I just loaded mine, three days out of date. So upset.

After all those glitches, you might wonder why I enjoy this game. It's simple. Lots of building possibilities. Fast flyers, slow floating bases, quick buggies, and something I want to work on. A train. You can take the quick way out and use creative, or use blueprints, but I'm enjoying all the possibilities, and seeing what happens. Making mistakes leads to a better vehicle. Don't be afraid to try, design, and try again. Every block can be broken down for its base components, and rebuilt.

There is a story you find in the background, but so far, I'm not concerned about it.
Special note. An easy way to get killed is to to use the hoverjacks on vehicles, but then turn them off while under the vehicle. I've done it five times already and somehow, I'm surprised each time.

The game is fun. I love it, and won't get bored anytime soon.

The game is quite good at entertaining for a few hours, but the moment you have seen everything (e.g. obtained the last blueprint) it rapidly loose any reason to play. Completing the story is just meh.

In my personal rating the game is above similar games in genre like Space Engineers, Empyrion: Galactic Survival and GRAV. It feels same unfinished (hastily released), but it's much more polished and bug-free than either. Though it can offer much less features and activities to keep you in a sandbox for long enough.

+ Good survival: hunger, thirst, health and temperature to handle.
+ Good sandbox: gathering resources and building new things feels great.
+ Exploring is fun.

- Generic storyline.
- Feels too easy.
- Combat is meh: just 1 weapon and it require much progress to unlock.
- Map is too big and vehicles are too slow, quick travel is very limited.
- Physics is limited: vehicles don't crash or take damage, buildings don't collapse, no explosions.
- Very limited set of buildings blocks.
- Just 6 enemies in the game, 6 more were planned ( https://planetnomads.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Animals ) but didn't make it into the game and the development seems to be ceased.

Overall I could not recommend this game, despite being polished it lacks variety and can only be played for a short time. I will forget this equally priced game quicker than Empyrion: Galactic Survival, which is still developed further.

Buy this game only if you are building a "sandbox games player" portfolio among your friends or to spend a weekends playing new game which you quickly forget.

So, its been awhile since I played this game. I was not impressed with the last few updates since I preferred the old "system" and the way it played. Appealing to the crybabies always ends up rendering decent games to the trash bin.
If you get the game at a fair price there is a lot of fun to be had if you like to build and construct. I've not played this game as long as some others but it is a shame to see it go away and so many negative comments. There was huge potential here but with fools trash mouthing the game and such I am not surprised the creator gave up.

They provided some updates to give a clean ending and I can appreciate that. I hope there is an updated version of this in the future.

I've got almost 60 hours in this game, over 2000 hours in Space Engineers and a couple of hundred in Empyrion and I enjoy all of them. I love builder/explorer games and I have no complaint about this one apart from you needing to build radar units before your world map fills in and you can't build one until you find one to scan at a man made wreck site.

I read complaints about not being able to build weapons until later in the game, that is true. If you want to play an FPS game from the outset this is not for you.

But, you don't need either the radar unit or the gun to play the game for hours.

My advice:
- Get to the closest man made wreck site and scan the buggy so you can build it. Walking around is slow, the buggy is great and you can attach storage units to the sides so you can carry more. The buggy can get stuck on rock outcrops, the left mouse button on your first tool excavates terrain. Remove the obstacle and drive on.
- I don't like the autosave, on my PC it makes the game stutter, if your PC doesn't have the problem you can leave it on. I turn it off as the stutter ruins the immersion in the game, you just need to remember to save regularly.
- You can die in the game even on the easiest settings, you can run out of food and water. Get killed by creature attack. Cutting down a tree for biomass you can die if the tree falls on you. If you drive the buggy underwater for too long you can run out of oxygen. You will lose everything when you die, but it is stored for you in a storage container at the location of your death. You just need to be able to get back there, and it's a slow walk.
- Make your first base BIG, there is a lot to build, a lot to store and the vehicles you build are only limited by your imagination.
- Read the guides they help a lot

I think it's a great game for builder/explorer players, lots to do, lots to figure out. I don't doubt the bug comments when you build certain items, make a note of them for your reference. I've played an enjoyable 50+ hours without hitting any bugs.

Damn shame about this game. Came back to check on it and yup its dead jim, last update feb. 1 2021. I mean like maybe they will come back too it but thats what a year or more? Was very cool as well. Had a lot of interesting and fun mechanics when you got into it. I dont think the devs ever reall had any idea of where it should go. They just added stuff iirc. Mulitplayer would have been nice too but isnt the biggest deal. A lot of potential wasted here, but id say try it at least the two or so hours steam will let you before you can refund then you can decide to keep it or not. I wish there was a mixed review option sooo I guess ill leave it negative since I wouldnt come back to it personally and the devs seem to abandon it.

I bought this game roughly when it came out. Had really high hopes for this game. In a lot of ways it was much better than the competition. It had the polish & ease to play of subnautica and the freeworld building of empyrion. The only problem was that it was a little short of content. After about 70 hours of quality gameplay, I tuned out hoping that the devs would add more to the game.

Fast forward two years later. I booted up the game in anticipation for some new additions and to my surprise, nothing changed about the game. I doubt the devs will ever end up adding anything else to this game. As it stands, the existing content doesn't offer enough to justify its price. You're better off with empyrion or avorion, or maybe space engineers (i never liked that one though)

This is a game for people who want a sandbox, solitary, fuck around and build shit kind of game without making things overwhelmingly complicated. Its simple, it fits together nicely and if your a creative SiFi person who wants to spend some alone time on a planet this game is perfect. The mechanics are fairly straight forward, I personally haven't had any issues with bugs or game play frustrations. This is one of those games that I could probably play all day.

Rathael

It appears to finally have accepted its death after a trickle of inadequate fixes and additions. It had some neat ideas, implementations, and a good aesthetic to it, but actually playing the game was an exercise in learning to combat or avoid the unfinished, unstable parts of the game. A big part of Planet Nomads was building and using vehicles, either as personal transport or mobile bases. Being able to place your bases' power supply and crafting machines on a moving vehicle was great, but definitely lessened by how slippery and prone to violent bounces or spins the vehicles were.

Perhaps I just built every single vehicle "wrong." Even looking past a core feature being arcane at best and broken at worst, there wasn't anything to strive towards beyond building some pretty or something to joyride in. I recall large alien monuments of a sort scattered here and there, each one giving you the barest hint of a story when you interacted with it... and that's it. No threats to build against, no puzzles to solve, not enough environmental story to be worth digging into, no objective aside from a clunky sandbox.

Another game I wanted to like but had to force myself to play to get further down the build tree... only to be disappointed when I got there.

OK after 1 year playing this game....this is my honest experience and suggestion.

The game really amusing and thrilling. u can build whatever kind of transportation modules u want follows your immagination.
what i do noticed, is the game still have lots of bugs while using our own made vehicles. sometimes spawing inside the statis chamber of the vehicle is impposible.
Second, the map sometimes glitchy and always rotatiing on its own.

Thats all for the worse in the game.

This is my honest suggestion then,

first, it would be nice if the control panel or the driving mechanisms included the Auto Drive system. it would be fascinating to see the Planet through the window while the homemade air ship soaring through the planet airspace.

Second, I would love to see A NEW KIND of hostiles in the games. like Hostiles Aliens with technology and various tech to attack us.

Third, please add some variety to the weapons and not limited to Pulse Defence Weapon only. please add something like Pulse Sniper rifle etc. and one more thing, i would love if planet nomads dev add some block like Ship missile system or Ship laser defense system for ship crafting, these would thrill the game more.

fourth, if can add some AI Robots ( bot) that can be crafted with new production block like Robotic Foundry ( just name randomly) to the game. we will require some resources to produce robot from the Robotic Foundry. These robots can be configured by pressing button C, and there a lot like assigning some task for the robot like controling the ship cockpit to drive to the P.O.I, or assigning them to collect items from production block, or even assigning them to mining and even serve as security patrol to protect us from hostiles.

Thats is my expectation for Planet Nomads in the future, i hope the Dev would consider my suggestion here. yup Planet Nomads is still in Beta and constant developments, i look forward for the latest updates from planet nomads....

I had this game since early access and it was a good game till the final release.
It is fun to build moving bases and mine for resources, I like the conveyor system and that you can build really big bases with almost unlimited of resources. The graphics are an OK level, nothing extraordinary, the sound design is poor, especially the combat sound. The animations are on a basic level on the creatures.
But You are forced to discover the new and useful parts. The first 5-8 hours are nothing but boring grinding and running up-and-down for new part receipts. It makes harder the agro animals that will attack you on spot and you have to laser them for 10-20 minutes avoiding the ridiculously high amount of damage or just run away from a good resource spot.

That is why I don’t recommend this game: It takes at least 20 hours of torture before you reach the part where it becomes fun, but then you will get performance issues as well on a mid-range PC.
When this game was in Early Access was more enjoyable than this final release. (You could unlock almost everything within 5-10 hours and just build and travel for resources to build more) Now I don’t even know anything about the story I lost the thread between infinite grinding phases. Story is just tablets you can read anyway, and sometimes a Text to Speech engine says a few sentences then you get a new “quest” to keep grinding and finding more tablets.

The good:
Procedural generated planets
Able to dig underground and build a base
Able to build floating air base
A single story mission (giving an initial purpose to the sandbox)
The bad:
I just feels like it needed a little more polish to be really fun
Some of the mechanics took a little getting used to (thanks steam discussion boards!)

Overall a fun game. Sure there are other builder/survival/base games out there that give more bang for the buck but this one isn't bad. The value is even better when on sale!

Love the game but sadly the stuttering and lag with larger ships/vehicles really ruins it. I used to play it on my old PC which was quite a good machine, so was really interested to see how it would work on my new rig (which is a monster)

Sadly, exactly the same.

The physics are glitchy and vehicles and structures can catapult into the air when dismantling or fall through the floor and vanish into the earth, the winch, which is a really needed tool as vehicles flip over easily also glitches out and rarely works properly. The random spawning of wrecks and other builds can also be a pain, items spawn below ground or spread across terrain/hills.

It's great until you start getting somewhere, then it just becomes buggy and laggy.

So, much that I want too, i can't recommend this game :(

If the devs ever fix this, i will happily change this review, but it looks like that's never going to happen.

This could possibly be the worst survival building game on steam. Almost nothing works correctly or as expected. Drive your buggy only to roll or get stuck in/on/between something because physics seem to be a secondary concern, while on your wild goose chase for titanium so you can build ANYTHING worth while. 71 hours, entirely wasted trying to learn how this shitty game works, digging my various vehicles in and out of holes and finding more bugs than a roach motel. TLDR: Stay away from this one, in a word its BAD.

It's ok. Translations and text to speech aren't great. Storyline is kinda interesting but fairly meh. Little bit of crafting, but you don't have to do much to finish the story / game. And the production item names imply there are large versions... but there aren't. I spent half my play time just wanting it to be over, complete.
There are bugs / poor design throughout. I was able to perform a task before the objective asked me to, so apparently it didn't count. Monument teleporters just ate my items and never allowed teleport.
I finished it on normal difficulty, first (and likely only) playthrough. No real challenge. food and water were never an issue. wildlife injured me slightly, but no real threat. Pretty weak balance.

Play a different survival crafting game. you'll enjoy it more

When I played and completed this game back in 2019, I loved it. Replaying it now is nice, but issues I noticed back then are now glaring and in my face now. It looks like the game is now abandoned by Craneballs, only releasing the occasional bug fix.

First of all, music. Love it. Fantastic. No complaints.

Graphics. For the love of god, how I wish it looked like the original release trailer. This game would be perfect for an "Expectations vs. Reality" meme video. The graphics are ok, but a real step down from the original release trailer. And can we please have a little more uniqueness with the animals in this game, and not just the same animals re-textured per biome? There's also only like 3-4 textures for trees.

Story. I don't know about everyone else, but I actually think that the story is pretty ok. Now, it isn't perfect, mind you. But there is a good idea behind it. It would be fun to see it a better implemented form.

Gameplay. This is where the game gets boring. As much as I love the idea of trekking a procedurally generated world and exploring its many nooks and crannies initially, it gets very boring very quickly as you go back and forth looking for minerals here and there, and sometimes getting your vehicle stuck upside down and loading a save you made ten or so minutes ago, resetting part of your progress. I really feel that there would be a better way to execute the environment and gameplay of Planet Nomads than it is done currently. Also, the game is buggy. Sometimes, things kinda just phase through the ground, never to be seen again.

Narration. It took me a little while to realise this, but your Suit voice is just one of those text-to-speech voices you could google in five seconds. I feel like the devs just fed a computer some words, hit Speak, and bad-a-bing-bad-a-boom, they have their low effort Suit Voice narrator. I did kinda like the sentient nano-virus voice, the deep robotic sounding voice that the devs did make the effort to record definitely suits it. But that makes me wonder why they didn't make the effort to record other voices, and possibly maybe narrate the different Survivor datapads you can find. That would actually made the game a little more interesting.

Overall, Planet Nomads is a game that really needs a major overhaul. I think Craneballs might have abandoned the game almost entirely a few years back, which is a shame because I would have enjoyed a game that looked like the release trailer. The game, I feel, has (or had) a lot of potential, but the devs ended up making what looks like a half-finished product. I hope that maybe one day it will be able to reach that full potential, because I would love to see it.

I still like it though, so I give it a good review point.
