An early gaming influenced run 'n' gun game with a great style and some pretty good level designs, but unfortunately it's marred by the boring gameplay and same exact goal in every stage: grab the four quarters of a stone key to open the gate at the end of the level. It's unfortunate that the landmark of Duke Nukem, Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison, and Lo Wang all being in one game together (and playable no less!) is in such a disappointing, unappealing, extremely niche game.

Awesome old school 90th platformer-shooter by 3D realms and Interceptor... with a catch. Basically is a new Duke Nukem reboot under disguise, just cartoonish and childish, but you can smell Duke a mile away. Gameplay reminds Duke 1-2 and Manhatan Project, adult sense of humor with urge to kick some♥♥♥♥♥is present as well (but there is a kid mode that turns all of that off and makes game child friendly), even Rad Rodgers look like Duke when he was kid - blond hairs, red t-shirt, blue jeans.
3DR lost their rights for duke and has no dev team anymore, but that does not stop them from making more Duke Nukems, and this attempt is pretty good.
So, what you waiting for, Christmass? Go get some!

P.S. - i want sequel and i want Rad Rodgers 3D as FPS\TPS with maze levels, cartoonish strippers that will shake it for me, and mother♥♥♥♥ing key cards... and lets hope they would not forget some pig looking L.A. law enforcers , but cartoonish XD I can even see how they can make a pure parody of Duke 3D by making a story that this time around Rad Rogers got sucked into Duke 3D kind of game and became its character.

It's another one of those "remember the 90's" games, it's kind of a day late to that party but thankfully it's not a dollar short. Striped of the nostalgia, it stands on it's own as great side scrolling jump-n-shoot.

Great game! Not for kids :P Plays like Commander Keen meets Konkers Bad Furday!!!! My only beef is that THQ Nordic took out all evidence of intercepters word with the exception of the end credits.

Visuals are flat, gameplay is flat, stage design is flat, music is flat, lines are flat. Thoroughly decisive 5/10. If I can't get a refund for buying this at full price, I'm going to 100% it to punish myself.

Comes with Rad Rodgers: World One which is, from what I can gather, an earlier version of the game that they kept around because the upgraded version ended up having improved visuals (though still flat) which boosted the system requirements, and they didn't want people who were able to run World One to suddenly be unable to run the improved version. So don't bother with World One unless your system can't handle the one simply titled "Rad Rodgers", since World One is the lesser version.

STORY: 8/10

Rad Rodgers is at heart an early 90's platformer made with today's technology, taking influence from a slew of games, including Apogee classics such as Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure and Commander Keen, and the Amiga classic Ruff'n'Tumble. It centers around the titular character, a young boy named Rad Rodgers (voiced by Hunter Pratt) who one evening after a lengthy session is sent to bed by his mother and immideately afterwards is sucked into his TV and finds not only is his game console Dusty (voiced by Jon St. Jon) alive, but he also has a pretty dirty sense of humor. The game quickly establishes its somewhat adult tone, similar to Conker's Bad Fur Day. And it makes it obvious that this game isn't marketed so much to kids as it's marketed to the people who grew up with these kinds of platformers and are more than old enough to handle foul language. The game does ship with a censor option though to bleep out the dirty words in case you want to spare your kids the worst of it.

GAMEPLAY: 9/10

The game is probably one of the best platformers I've played in recent memory. Controls are incredibly tight (just how I like it...?) and the difficulty curve in the levels is just right with early levels being fairly easy and the last couple of levels being true challenges. In addition to your standard gun you also have powerups that give your gun special ammunition, including rapid fire, shooting phoenix-shaped fire blasts, lobbing grenades and firing a solid beam of death (can you say kamehameha?). The game also has three difficulty modes, with easy giving you endless lives and 4 hearts, with each heart pickup giving you 2 hearts, medium giving you 3 hearts (with heart pickups giving you 1 heart) and limited lives, and finally hard restricting you to 2 hearts (with heart pickups giving half a heart) and limited lives (which is the difficulty I used for this playthrough since I wanted a real challenge). It has to be said that the hard difficulty is probably what you should go with if you want an actual challenge as the game IS fairly easy all things considered (with the exception of the the last few levels which proved quite challenging).
Slipgate has a bit of a track record for releasing buggy games but it's with a relief I can say that Rad Rodgers is probably the smoothest and most bug-free experience I've ever had from them. I didn't run into any serious glitches or bugs at all during my playthrough and overall had a really good time with the game.

GRAPHICS: 9/10

Graphically the game looks stunning. It has a very cartoony art style with a ton of colours and really good lighting effects (as to be expected from an UE4 game). At times the game does tend to look a little busy and it can make the levels a bit confusing at first but once you get into it, it becomes almost second nature to try and spot secrets in the levels which are fairly often very well clues. There's also a ton of little details and easter eggs in the level designs and since the cutscenes are rendered in real time, little details like the hat you're wearing will show up in them. I was able to run the game maxed out on my Phenom II 3.2 GHz PC with a 3GB R9 280X graphics card and getting a pretty decent framerate across the board (which speaks tons about how much the game has been optimized compared to the earlier "World One" version). You could definitely easily get a stable 60 FPS on a modern PC with this game even on maxed out settings.

SOUND: 9/10

First off I really wanna compliment the soundtrack. Andrew Hulshult has gone for more of a synthwave soundtrack with this game (reminiscent of games like Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon) mixed with his signature guitar solos and it really is a combination that works brilliantly and makes me wish he'd make more in this style. As opposed to his earlier outings with Bombshell the music in this game pops with really awesome melodies and riffs, heavy synthy basslines rumble in the background while his badass guitar solos are sprinkled on top. Definitely makes me want to listen to the soundtrack on its own. It's not as memorable as Giana Sisters, but it's definitely extremely pleasant to listen to and fits the game's whole retro vibe perfectly. The voice acting is also pretty great. Hunter Pratt voices Rad and using a real child actor as opposed to something like a female voice actor helps give Rad a very authentic sounding voice. He's of course not exactly a great actor and at times can sound a bit underwhelming but it can be forgiven given he's a child actor. Jon St Jon is also a ton of fun as Dusty and doing other minor voices in the game.
The sound design in general is pretty solid with the gun sounds and explosions being fairly satisfying. I do sort of miss more environmental sounds but what sounds are there do help keep you tuned in to what you need to pay attention to so too much noise might have worked against the sound's function.
I did run into some glitches with the sound though. Whenever I lowered the game's master volume, certain sounds would still play at full volume, more specifically the loading screen sound and the death sound of the larger enemies. Nothing too serious, but worth mentioning.

TOTAL SCORE: 9/10

All in all, Rad Rodgers is a beautiful love letter to the early 90's and at the same time feels fresh and has its own unique sense of humor that will definitely appeal to adults. If you grew up with PC platformers like Jazz Jackrabbit and Commander Keen, I highly recommend giving Rad Rodgers a try! My only real complaint so far is that the game is really short since only World One has been completed, but given they are working on the game I hope for World Two and Three soon enough! This is by far Slipgate Studios' best game so far and barring a few minor bugs the game is a thoroughly enjoyable experience in my opinion.

I like this game and wish to see more additions to the Rad Rodger series (World 2, World 3, and so on…). It is a huge upgrade to the 1990’s Commander Keen type of game. There are also elements of the classic Duke Nukem game infused into Rad Rodgers. 4K graphics support (perfect for a powerful 4K gaming laptop).

I wish to see use of the pogo stick anytime in any level as any wishes to use it.

I am really torn by this game. First off if you loved ruff n tumble on the Amiga then this is a no brainer. I've really enjoyed the game it's just a shame that it's quite buggy. I've completed the game but in trying to get all the achievements I've faced a few issues. The Devs at one point we're really good at responding but like alot of things it seems to have fallen away. There is a pogo level that still crashes when you reach the top so I can't get that achievement. Also there is one level where I've been literally everywhere and still can't find all the crystals and therefore 100% the level. I would still recommend the game because not everyone is going to be playing for achievements and stuff. If your looking for an old school retro platformer then ones of this quality shouldn't be missed.

Colorful & Fun

It's a simple game with an amazing 90s style concept, rude and funny humor accompanied by colorful scenery.
You can't ask more from an old school platform game style.
10/10 try it and you are gonna have some fun with good vibe.

the only "negative" thing is that the game is a lil bit short, when you end it you want more BUT maybe it could become repetitive if it continued much longer at least is a good compromise i think.. so it just about point of views on this aspect.
Dont look at my gameplay hours, i don't know why it's wrong! at least i got 3 hrs on this game, and it doesn't have a huge replayability but i already restart it again so i think if you are gonna like the game you can have 6 hrs of fun for 6 bucks maybe more cause the game has been recenlty updated and they add more things to do

Absolute garbage platformer. You use the same gun entire game with 3 powerup weapons. You might the same enemies each level and all levels look the same. Theres no story, and theres stupids minigames added for no reason. Then the game adds stupid 1 hit kill turrets which negate the idea of the health bar and u need to beat 20 in a row. Even worse are the bugs. 2 times on the last level i got stuck in the ground after jumping, and since for no reason there isnt a checkpoint restart u can only restart level. I didnt wanna redo the 20 min level for the 4th time just because they couldnt fix basic things like not getting stuck in the FKING ground throughout the level. 3/10.

☼ DriftedPlanet ☼
☼ DriftedPlanet ☼

I appreciate the concept of an old-school 2D Shooter-Platformer. But boy does it sour fast when the collisions and animations bug out, the game likes to teleport you into spikes while returning you from a minigame so you can't even move yet, and decides instant death lasers are fun for timing with platforming when you have limited lives (before having to redo the level and recollect everything).
I had been going for gems & secrets as I explored the levels early on but decided to ignore everything out of the way maybe halfway through the 10 levels. I wish the game were more polished but, as is, the experience just becomes annoying.

The minigame stages were between each level. All that is required to move on from a minigame stage is to attempt it. The minigame stages were fine and they mostly worked as intended.

Short but solid bit of nostalgic tomfoolery that, unfortunately, will take your CPU for quite the ride if youre not careful. Lotsa weird jokes involving pederasty and child trafficking, good once for a shock laff - but these villagers seem pretty hahah KEEN on the whole schtick.

Note: cheevos broken; last update from dev seems to have been from early 2019.

M.K

Very good game.
Nice graphs, good pace, lot of secrets, bonus and achievements.
Purely platform where every level is separated by one bonus level of another type. These intermediary levels are shorts and you can skip them if not interested.
You have lives and checkpoints to finish a map. If you lose all in a map, then you can start it again at the same point than the first time.
Many complain that the game is too short. This is an achievements game. Today, more than 60% of the achievements are under 3%. So yes, perhaps, by rushing the game on easy mode it is short... But with a descent level of difficulty and the will to take the side challenges, then it is apparently quite longer than I thought following the lecture of some comments.
And it is fun. Some secrets are hard to find. Some secret places hides inside another secret place. Some hat are difficult to find because they are hidden by the very rich background and lights.
Some unlocked characters are more powerful than others. The lady is having grenades where other have close combat tricks.
One dislike is sometimes the visibility. Like in the pogo jump maps. There are some first plan shadows masking the platform to jump on. Nothing impossible except it will probably make you lose on first try and restart. Also, since it is an achievement game, why having the default choice on continue to go to the next level instead of retry? It force to move left twice every times you want to retry a challenge instead of frenetically click on the button of your pad or destroying your space bar.
I got it on a very fair sale (70% around), I do not regret anything. Oh, and the last time Duke Nukem was amusing me was long ago... so thanks to this game. It is time to kick asses and... that's it, it is just time to kick asses...

I actually really like this game. The graphics are nice. The gameplay handles well (for the most part). And the music reminds me of Escape from New York. But there are too many glitches to recommend. Most of the mini-games feel terrible to control and there are levels with glitched collectibles. When one of the main focuses of your game is collectibles you need to make sure to nail that. Nothing is more frustrating than being told to collect items that don't actually work.

Rad Rodgers feels like it's in early access. With a little more polish it could be a great game. I'd love to see a sequel with some of the mechanics ironed out. I'd also like to see an increase in difficulty. For a game that's supposed to be inspired by the 90's it's WAY too easy.

So i finally decided to buy Rad Rogers during a price reduction. I knew it wasn't going to be a life changer but man...this is one extremely average game! Refunded after 15 mins as it already started boring me after 3 levels. It just feels thrown together with little thought put into making it fun to play or interesting in any way!

You move, you shoot and you jump. You collect things too. The action is simple and easy. The platforming is simple and easy. There is variety in gameplay via mini games but they just feel thrown together and lack substance. Everything just feels...cr@p!!

Recommended for kids (i'm 39 so I feel this is just too simple for a seasoned gamer.) The presentation is bland, the "story" is forgettable, the voiceover's are not funny....

I got it thinking it might present a decent challenge...and it's nowhere to be seen. A straight forward, simple platforming game that will only be enjoyed by those who are NEW to gaming.

Played Ruff'n'Tumble on the Amiga in my teens. Loved it! In fact it was one of my top fave games on the Amiga (along with Zeewolf, Laser Squad and Stunt Car Racer).

Rad Rodgers is not Ruff'n'Tumble.
It is a gorgeous looking platformer that is heavily based on Ruff'n'Tumble but it is not a remake. The original was a joy to play, this one is frustrating. The controls are weird, the character is barely controllable, I felt being on a constant fight to keep the little bastard on a platform and not let him slip and fall to oblivion. I have played this with a gamepad as opposed to the joystick I had on the Amiga and it felt weird, way too much above my challenge zone. I am sure you kids will feel at home though.

I was really looking forward to get this, it does look gorgeous and has some new ideas thrown in but it does not have the smoothness of the old game, but i was left dissapointed mostly. Might be the fact that I'm getting old for this kind of games, it frustrated the hell out of me, but I will definitely give it a go later on again and might re-edit my review. For now I just gonna make a nice cup of coffee and step aside to watch you kids having a go at it.

I'm very glad I bought it on a ridiculous sale price

Rad Rodgers - Radical Edition, or just simply Rad Rogers (as titled in your Steam library) is the "remastered" version of World One.

Apparently abandoned and still has a ton a bugs. Also not able to be 100% completed if achievements are your goal.
The only neat thing is the extra playable characters you can unlock in-game, as well as carrying your World One game over.

Definitely not worth the price, buy the original game if it's on sale.
