Fairly simplistic game. Not really meant to be taken seriously (obviously).

Every mechanic in the game is pretty easy, aside from poisoning food. By far the most annoying of the mechanics as it can be reset on you for almost any reason. For that reason I suggest knocking out that mechanic last in every house. Trust me. You'll thank me later.

Game steadily feeds you new mechanics as you go from house to house keeping things interesting, but eventually it stops, and the final 4-5 houses are very repetitive w the exact same goals. Nothing new.

Final boss is a cheating rage-inducing piece of shit. Had to cheese (pun not intended) the hell out the fight just to win.

Overall... meh. Not terrible. Not great. Amusing for a bit.

Rather short and kinda basic game but felt it was alright. Was kinda hoping a new area to infect once you beat the current area but regardless feel its alright. Played it on hard when I started felt it was rough at times but again was hard difficulty. Even asks if you want to drop it down after a few deaths. But once you learn the house its not to bad. I did not expect a great deal from this game but dose have some alright game play and some funny stuff the humans say...can get a bit overused but again the game is kinda short so would not be to bad. The boss fights do break up the stealth aspect of the game but feel it dose add more to the game then just doing the same thing to each house over and over
If I was to recommend this game would say to do normal difficulty...and maybe to wait for a sale. That is if you enjoy short stealth like games

A great game where you play as a Rat with the goal of infecting the entire neighbourhood!

It takes about 2 hours to complete, is very repetitive most of the time doing the same objective for each house but still alot of fun due to house layouts being simple, small and easy to navigate. Gameplay feels pretty unique aswell compared to the other simulator type games.

If you're looking for a goofy and silly game then this one is worth it.

Absolutely life changing.

I would have never guessed, just how simple the human mind is compared to rats.
We do not possess the ability to even grasp upon what it truly means to be a rat.
I always adored and liked rats, but this out of this world experience nothing but deepened my wish to become a rat.
Ill do everything my human limitations allow to get as close as possible, to being a rat.

Thank you, rat.

I would recommend this, but you NEED to go in with the right expectations. If you think you’re getting Half Life 3 with a rat, you WILL be disappointed. It’s a short, simple game with simple graphics, not really a storyline, but it’s fun. You work your way through a neighbourhood systematically infecting all the houses with specific objectives all the way, and that's it. The inhabiting humans are complete morons, and listening to their stupid ongiong comments really made me laugh and enjoy fucking up their houses.

My issue with the game lies with the controls, which is a bitch to handle. Although you use the mouse to look around, you can’t assign any of the mouse buttons to actions, so everything has to be done on the keyboard.Personally I suck at that, so my constant fingerfumbling probably doubled the time needed to complete the game. I recommend using steam settings to configure a gamepad to the keys. That made gameplay a lot easier. Too bad my smart ass came up with THAT idea after game completion.

In summation, it's a cute, funny game, and a must-play for ratlovers.

I would love to see a sequel, with more time and money invested in developing a full story with multiple missions and fully functioning controls.

In no universe is this game worth $8 USD. Garbage.

I could make this in Unity in about 3 minutes and it would still look better than whatever this is.

Janky controls, unrealistic detection (humans see you SO FAST even if you're hidden!) and hard to read.

Do not touch this garbage if you value your time.

All in all I had plenty of fun with this game! You do have to take a little away for graphics but there is a lot of gameplay to be done here and the objectives kept me looking forward and trying to progress in my life as a rat. I think if you know what you're getting here there is plenty of room to have some fun with this game!

I think for a very simple game it's a bunch of fun, The only thing i can criticize with this game is the movement speed it's a tad bit sensitive. But other than that it's fun and i will be playing it whenever i have some time to kill.

Sometimes I want to punch these people as a rat since they are so damn annoying and won't stop hiring security, agents, french policemen that are suppose to be pestman or I dunno anymore lol.

Unlike some, I'm not expecting this game to be "realistic," (In most cases "unrealistic" is a stupid complaint. I play quirky little games to escape reality.) but I do understand why someone would feel that way in this case.

Humans can spot you instantly, with eyes seemingly in the back of their head. It's nearly impossible to prevent being spotted, since you can't really keep your camera on them while making your way to an objective.

It's streaming bait. It's goofy enough to make a 15 minute youtube video where you make silly noises and get yourself into all sorts of conundrums.

I love rats. And silly games. If the camera/controls in this game were actually somewhat functional, I would recommend it despite all its other flaws. (Personally, I think the fact that you can shoot poision at humans and the Pestman has a flamethrower is pretty funny).

No option to invert the mouse axes, and I can't tell the difference between the "old" and "new" camera. They're both terrible. I spent most of the time accidentally looking at my own rattie butthole because the camera would flip down there seemingly of its own accord.

Also, despite the fact that I had all the music/sound effects turned way down in the Options, the Pestman's flamethrower noise was DEAFENING.

I REALLY wanted this game to be playable (I did not expect it to be good), but it's not.

the game is good but the controls wont work that good and when i get to the first boss and die a few times on him he stopped showing up.

I liked it, but that's pretty much because I am a lover of dirty, little rodents. It is not really the best made game in the universe. At least they tried! There's something to be said for being a rat and spreading the plague throughout a little community. Also these people deserve it. You will agree when you hear some of the horrible lines they say. "I need to eat my medicine."

This might be the most perfect game ever made and sold to us waiting little boys and girls here on steam. Rat Simulator takes everything people love about video games and combines it with everything people want to be, a rat. For such a low price any person can live the life of a rat, most peoples' dreams. The graphics are perfectly akin to the way a rat sees the world and the controls are great. You move quickly and concisely around the open world infecting everything you can see. On top of all the incredible rat mechanics there is also the matter of the humans. Some of the funniest voice lines I've heard in a long time are used by the full sized humans in this game. I wholeheartedly endorse this game and think everybody should HAVE to buy it.

Never before while playing any game have I had my breath taken away. Until I played Rat Simulator. I can, with the utmost confidence, say that this game is and nothing but a masterpiece. Every mechanic in this game is fine tuned to the players benefit and the world is expertly crafted to add atmosphere in ways you would never expect. The voice acting feels natural and the missions feel tense. I couldn't possibly recommend this game more.

I have played hundreds of games in my life but not one game has brought me such pure enjoyment as Rat Simulator. When I first opened this game up I expected a terrible game that would be a waste of money and figured I was an idiot for purchasing this game, however this was not the case. Being able to fulfill my dream of being a large rodent who carries diseases, eats all the food in the household and kills everyone via infection was a dream I never thought would come true. I was very pleased that there was a map in the game and boss fights which are far more challenging than any of the dark souls games (except for dark souls two scholar of the first sin edition because fuck that game). The incredible music that amplifies the heated battle between man and rodent is amazing and made me FEEL like a rat. The voice lines within the games are incredible and perfect executed. Every voice actor sounds like they put true passion into each voice line as if they really were there talking about sega and solid snake. The incredible AI makes my small frail rat body to shake in fear it is so overly realistic. There were times when playing this game I forgot I wasn't a totally badass rat taking over the neighborhood. Every part of this beautiful map is masterfully crafted in every single area looks absolutely stunning. There is no game quite like this amazing masterpiece of a game. If you like rats this game is DEFINITELY worth it :) (the game is worth it on sale but full price is a bit much) Edit: have nominated this fantastic visually stunning game for the steam awards :)

If you like Goat Simulator or maybe even that weird Burger King game, Sneak King, you'll probably enjoy this short little game.

The game is a bit of a janky mess, but in one of those good ways. There are some ridiculous ideas in here (both the giving the rat a ranged attack and the very concept behind the game's recurring boss comes to mind), and I bet that the creator had a lot of fun making this game. The NPCs also make a quite a lot of pop culture references as idle chatter when walking around, including a few I didn't expect to hear (I won't give any of them away so you can enjoy them as well.)

I did have a little frustration in my play through: Citizens will sometimes corner you in a room or area and won't move on for upwards of a minute, just staring at the wall while you're stuck there with no egress; you'll just have to wait them out. You can poison them to knock them out so you can escape, but if you've been hiding poisoned food under the bed, they appear to notice it upon waking up and nab it, meaning you'll have to poison another one to replace it. You can also sometimes get hung up when trying to jump to areas when trying to grab food or objects to smash, which can be obnoxious but is also something that adds to the charm, so I won't officially count that against it. The button for your ranged attack is set to 1, which feels a bit out of the way for me, but when I tried rebinding the keys I noticed I couldn't bind it to either a mouse click or left ctrl, which I personally would have found easier keys to use for it. I had a bit of an issue getting the final boss to take damage my first couple times trying to fight him, which might also just be on me; they tell there's a new way to hurt him, but not really that it's now apparently the ONLY way to hurt him.

None of these issues should hopefully keep you from really enjoying this short experience, however.

Look, I really just think this games sucks. It's SO monotonously repetitive and tedious, as every house has more or less the same goals, not being helped by the stealth system---if you can even call that. Sure, there are a few tricks to help you, like throwing objects to distract the humans for half a second; but on the whole what you do is simply run behind an object, and then wait for like 30 seconds until they walk away. That's it. This might have been alright if it was a small part of the game, but it isn't, so if the core stealth aspect of you stealth game is just sitting still until the enemy walks away, the game probably isn't good. Don't get me wrong, I did have SOME fun, but not that much. There are 2 bosses in the game (which are technically just the same boss that you fight twice), which are much better compared to the rest of the game, but still not that good. While the game was SO BAD, I figured that since it was short, I should at least finish it before writing this review (not that it was AT ALL worth it). And I would understand if this was just a joke game for a few laughs, but if that where the case then it should have been free or only a few bucks, not $7.99! It's pretty fun at first, but as soon as you realize that probably won't see anything new after the first 30 minutes, it gets incredibly old very quickly. I also noticed that (according to steam achievements), less than 10% of players have beaten the game. Only 30.3% even bothered finishing the first mission. And honestly, I don't blame them.

And so, I feel that definitively, Rat Simulator is not worth either your time nor your money.

It may be a bit late, but I still think this should be nominated for game of the year 2021. It may not be the most forgiving game, and its saving system definitely leaves a lot to be desired. However, the dialogue is hilarious enough to make up for it. Sometimes it's clearly intentional, other times it isn't. I've heard weird philosophical statements, spongebob references, a guy claiming he's wario, and tons of boomer jokes. All with the most ridiculous voice acting I've ever heard. I paid under $3 for this game and it was money well spent.

The game is fun but a little repetitive and short. I'd only get it on sale even then it's a little overpriced.
The game's stealth could be better but you can tell it's low budget and I still got fun out of it. Gamepad isn't supported but it is easy to hook up xpadder or joy to key as controls are very basic. The game can be a little tough at times I found the boss's very hard. Voice acting is really bad but in an oddly good way; it's very funny Things npcs say "I got complimented on my driving today I got a note on my car that said "parking fine"" "People say I am odd but I have the heart of a small boy , it's sitting on my desk" "Have aliens from outer space brainwashed me?" "Are there ghosts in my house?" The pest control are three dudes with flame throwers if they can't find the rat they often comment on how they plan to go get ice cream.

So a silly fun game with a lot of flaws , could be better (The concept is super cool) feels outdated but still has charm. 6.5/10 would get on sale

This game is quite an experience...

I was going in, expecting a meme game. What I wasn't expecting was to enjoy it enough to actually finish it. For the first two hours of the game, I was having genuine fun! I really thought I was gonna love this cute, little game, but then it starts to get repetitive and all the little bugs started to annoy me. I'll make some elaborations in my list the pros and cons.

PROS:
-Game is decent fun for the first two hours
(Just the novelty of being rat scurrying about had me sold, but the whole package was holding my attention for a decent while. I didn't mind the repetition of it all. Its when the houses started getting weirdly hard when the whole game was losing its charm.)
-Most of the mechanics are interesting and fun to play with
(Shooting poison, spreading the plague, and saving other little rats was a little more in-depth than I expected. Nothing amazing, and all the missions get reused through the entire game, but being stealthy around a house and knowing when to run or attack was fun.)
-Upgrading abilities makes game more interesting
-funny rat hehe
-Taking over the neighborhood is a decent premise
-Dialogue is SUPER FUNNY never got old
(Oh my, the voice acting makes this game a thousand times more enjoyable! There seems to be a lot of dialogue set to each human, with even some stupid little gamer quotes that are rare to hear. Hiding around and listening to people trying to find that darn rat was the most memorable part of the whole experience.)

CONS:
-Game gets repetitive after a while
(The home layouts get reused, missions don't get much variety, and getting chased around starts to make the game feel like chore, which was too bad.)
-The people are annoying...
(Obviously, you need to get punished when you get caught snooping around, there is a percentage in the corner of the screen, the longer people see you, the higher it gets until pest control is sent after you. This is fine, but sometimes there are too many people in one room to deal with and getting caught is just inevitable. BUT OMG...80% of the time, this is the situation I was in. I think some easier ways to distract people like decoys or something would've made it less frustrating.)
-The pest people are ANNOYING
(The pest control WILL spawn in the houses and there will about 3-5 chasing you down most of the time. They are REALLY buggy and annoying to get off your back. You can't run out of the house or your missions will reset, you can't really run because they catch up with easily and their fire spray will hit not matter what. You can only hide under CERTAIN tables. 90% of the time, hiding under a bed will be your best bet. Even then, you have to wait a good minute for the percentage to start going down and then another 30 seconds for the pest guys to despawn. Having this happen very often made my enjoyment decline very quickly.)
-The final boss stinks!
(You can't hit the boss with poison or by throwing stuff. You have to get an explosive to blow up to do damage and WOW the radius is small af. He literally has to be standing next to the thing and he is always chasing you and his attacks will kill you in 1-2 hits. Admittedly, his animations are really funny and over the top, especially the spin move, but it doesn't redeem how awful the explosion hit boxes were. Horrible difficulty spike. You don't even get anything for beating for beating him. No cutscene, no credits, no special item or model swap...nothing. Just finish the last house, then turn the game off.)

I love a lot of the ideas and the execution of them, but with some annoying ai, bugs, and repetition, it just sours the game. Even with all the major problems, I would still recommend this game if you can get it on sale. Its a decent little time killer that got some laughs out of me and even enjoyable gameplay for half of its runtime. This is a solid blueprint for a game and I would LOVE a sequel or even an update fixing these issues, but I don't see that happening anytime soon, which is too bad. WE NEED MORE RAT GAMES!!!! PLEASE MAKE MORE FUNNY RAT GAMES!!!

this game is amazing. the graphics are stunning, the voice acting is extremely well done, the controls were well planned and very smooth, and the characters were so real. i often felt like i was the rat in the game, wrecking havoc and killing humans, saving rats in their times of trouble, EATING CHEESE! this has got to be the best game i have ever played in my life. rat/10 would absolutely recommend definitely worth the purchase.
