As a early access game
i can say that the game idea is good
i like the 3D model and the city
however, what i care the most is combat

i think the Combat takes too long
(just walk from the city and get battle with 6 orcs)
melee always get miss on orc
magic always Fizzle
char move not smooth seems lag..
hope GM will slove the problem assp

waiting the group create system pop soon
i want to set up my own team to start my journey

Star Trail is the followup to Blade of Destiny and even though it is early access you can see the improvent to the UI.

You get a glimpe that combat will improve allthough this will be later into the EA. Fighting agains normal sized humanoids works fine, oversized opponents now occupy more than one combat field and get stuck and you need to use the unlock button a lot.

The atmosphere we know from the original made the way into the remake.
With a community tool you can transfer you heros from Blade of Destiny or use the default group.

Great fun so far.

Just a quick check: game freezes when looking at the settings with integrated card (intel hd 4600), game crashes when loading save game with integrated card.

With dedicated graphic card (nvidia 740m) it works.

Enjoying the concept of the game, and the play so far. I didn't play these original games but have enjoyed Drakensang and some of the other more recent Dark Eye universe releases.

I am enjoying some of the more 'simulation' aspects of the role play experience, and am keen to get further into the game to see how these expand.

The game needs a lot of polishing for something 'out' of early access. I understand there are some translation issues, but there are a lot of grating spelling mistakes that should not have made it past the most cursory of proof reads.
Some of these translation issues make it into the tutorials for the occasional confusing moment.

Impossible to play. Whenever a new game is loaded, it immediately crashes to desktop. Multiple people have had this issue, and most of us are not running on potatoes. I can run the latest games at medium settings, and this is an indie game with meh graphics.

Through process of elimination, I have discovered that messing with the graphics settings does nothing to solve this issue.

How did this game make it out of early access when so many people can't even play?

I will wait one week. If the devs fix this issue, I will change my review. If not, I will refund the game. I suggest you hold off on buying until the game is actually playable.

-edit-

1.01 has come out. My computer has more than the minimum specs to run this game, but it continues to crash. The developer has chosen to jump in and misgiangose my problem without really knowing anything about my computer's specs while behaving condescendingly.

I believe that the claim that this game isn't a buggy mess is false. I would call what I have purchased a mess and what I have run into a bug. If the developer would like me to "revise" my review a third time (as I'm sure he will), he can, first, be polite, and second, address the issues with his game instead of assuming the problem couldn't possibly be his fault.

Avoid this game and this developer. There are other classic RPG titles that have come out recently that are worth a buy.

I bought this game due to nostalia and am really glad it was remade. However I would caution have issues launching said game beyond character creation.

I recently built a new gaming computer which is able to run other high resolution games using an AMD Radeon R9 200 series graphics card and utilzing Windows 10, however I can not run this game and the forums are not very helpful in providing guidance to troubleshoot.

I would wait until some official patches and updates stablize the game.

As of May 5, 2020. I should update this review since it was made back when i first obtained the game in August of 2017 and could not get beyond character creation. I will have to jump back in and do a refresh in the meantime.

This game needs A LOT more polish before it can be considered done (or worth a buy).

- Spelling errors abound
- Grammatical errors as well
- Clunky UI system (spells are chosen from a drop down menu, then you get an error stating the range requirement etc, when they should just be greyed out to begin with if unusable on an enemy target)
- Poor voice acting (but this could be overlooked)
- Sub par animations/character models (again, could be overlooked if not for the general clunkiness and unpolished feel)

Give this one a pass until it gets patched more and receives the polish it so desperately needs. Kudos to the devs for releasing this one in a much better state compared to the previous game, but in all honesty, that's an incredibly low bar...

I bought this out of pure nostalgia. I don't even play on PC anymore, but this was one of my most favourite games when I was still young. One of the best things on original Star Trail was music and its even better on remaster. Its still the same tunes, but remastered and polished. I consider this a good purchase even if I never play the game and just have the soundtrack. :) You can switch between original and remastered music. Game itself however could still use some polishing. It is really clunky and does not run well on i7 with SLI GTX580. I would expect game with such outdated graphics to run fine on such a system. Also the english is not best, sometimes it is even hard to understand what authors wanted to say.

Very good remaster of the 1994 classic game. For fans of the Dark Eye RPG-System or friends of complex RPG-Mechanism.
A very good character editor. Graphics are quite good, but do not expect AAA-quality. A great improvement over Blade of Destiny. So far a very enjoyable game. No bugs encounterd. Release version is very stable.

The game is fantastic for nostalgics, I have been a long player of DSA since 1994, so I am a bit biased. For those who liked the stories back then it is just great to be able to play it again. Graphics can still be improved, but is not why you play the game. I hope that bit by bit this becomes a platform for more areas and adventures of DSA to be added.

I really like the old Realms of Arkania Triology and i really hard tried to like this game but it is just not happening. I am very sad how the Developers butchered this game. It is flat from the start on. The Map is totally dead and it just seems to be endless travel which gets old pretty quick. Which would be aceptable if the destinations would be worthwhile. But they are not. The towns are totally dull and boring even though there are many people running around nobody seems to have to say anything of interest and they are just endless copies of each other. For the quests you have to talk to hundrets of people hoping to talk to the right one. The game is buggy in some points but they not seem to be gamebreaking and did not affect my game too much up to now. Additionally the german voice acting is outright crappy. If your voice acting is crappy like that please dont use it this often. I always die a little if I have to cast a spell. It is a fan project and a 10 € game at most.

PS:
Please don't do what you did here to Shadows over Riva because it is one of my all time favourite games and it does not deserve to be threated like this.

YES! This is GOTY 2017, folks!
Feeling down and nothing can cheer you up?
Play this, you'll be laughing tears in no time!
The character models look like clay-mation cave-men with super-janky animations that puts PSX games to shame!
The English translation seems like a blunt-force word-for-word translation from German or Australian or whatever, with some words and phrases left untranslated altogether, and the rest just doesn't make any sense unless you're familiar with some heavily dialected backwater mountain-speak.
It doesn't (seem to) crash nearly as much as its predecessor but has some other really colorful bugs that will leave you breathless from laughter.
The main attraction is definitely the voice-acting. Make a party of all spellcasters and use as many spells as you can. Those spoken formulas are hilarious! Anything else is just delivered dead-pan with a thick accent (such as the killing blow "Ha ha ha").
I've played "RoA - Blade of Destiny" remake before and thought I knew what I was going to be in for, but this has way exceeded my expectations!
Keep up the amazing work!

TLDR: The game is a remake of a iconic, classic RPG.
It's a remake. Not a new game with new mechanics around the same story.
You'll like it if you like complex, classic RPGs with a bit of a learning curve.

A lot of people seem to be upset with the mechanics and the setup of the game.
The game is hard because it's supposed to be.
You don't hack and slay your way through hordes of enemies.
You have balanced, "realistic", tactical fights, where you manage your resources, get injured and potentially die.
Your people fall unconcious in battles or get hungry and get illnesses when they're travelling.
Your gear needs maintenance and not every single NPC is only there to give you quests or to lead you into certain directions.
And your heroes have to recover when they get ill or get beaten up by a patrol of orc veteran warriors... duh!

The modernised graphics and some grains of modern UI elements make an old gem playable again without grid paper and lots of imagination. But not all UI elements are modernised. Some are the same as 20 years ago, but it's a remake after all.

It has a few rough edges apart from the old mechanics, but the actual bugs and flaws are nothing that I haven't experienced in big AAA games as well.

You just can't please the modernist crowd and the fans equally I guess.

I played both of the ROA remakes and enjoyed them. I had started gaming about the time the original ROA3 came out and played it to completion, but never did go back and play the first 2. With the remakes I finally had a chance. Hope the do the third one soon.

I tried to like the game, but so much of the game experience just feels cumbersome. Even things that are quite obviously annoying are left in, like the extremely slow walking zombies that bog up each fight in the swamps. If you try to circumvent this by setting fight speed to 4x sometimes the camera glitches out and every now and then, Most of the localtions are dull and repetitive. Its easy to create useless characters that can't compete with the enemys.

I think you have to have loved the old games to enjoy the remakes. =/

Good god this game is bad. I'm not sure who it's for, either. Surely fans of the original might just replay the original version, and it sure doesn't do new players any favors.

Pros

- Lots of character creation options

- Uh... I honestly can't think of anything else.

Cons

- Almost nothing is explained properly. Many things have blatantly inaccurate or misleading descriptions. You don't even get to see what spells/skills a character gets before you create them.

- Combat is bad. It's slow, even for being turn-based, and the line-of-sight issue is extremely annoying.

- Magic is horrible. It looks terrible, generally costs way too much, your astral energy regenerates so slowly it may as well not regenerate at all, and is a bit overwhelming because you're looking at all the spells in the game (I think) from the very start.

- Townsfolk look ridiculous. Their arms always jut out at an odd angle, making them look like zombies.

No Patent For You
No Patent For You

Game breaking bugs. Literally unbeatable. Crashes consistently when you bring Agdan from the swamp back to Lowangen, and Salamander stone isn't in the Blood Peaks after the mages take it from you. No need to waste your time. Game is pointless.

Wow! what a great remastering of an absolutely timeless work of art. I remember playing this back in the mid 90's when it was released. The original soundtrack was always one of my favorites to this day and the remastered soundtrack version is great too. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication and taking the time to recreate this title. Also a thank you to the developers for allowing it. It makes me feel like I did over 20 years ago when I first entered the world of Aventuria. Will definitely purchase Shadows Over Riva if that ever comes to fruition.

horrible graphics for the alloted specs!

Fist off, i want to say, I LOVED the first ROK:BOD remake. I know it caught a lot of flak, but it was an aquired taste that I enjoyed. This game is still unplayable, and ive owned it for 6 months. You need a super gaming rig to play. ITs deadly slow on my aging gaming rig, and choppy framerate on a releativly new gaming laptop. Both of these machines could play skyrim and a host of other games seemlessly. Consider DRakensang/1/2 they were released 10 years ago and had better graphics, with crazy low specs, 6g hdd, and 2g ram, with a lower end card.

So, I read the reviews on the internet warning everyone the game was bugged like a BC3000AD. Someone even took the time to write a follow-up review after a year or so to evaluate whether it runs after some patching. It didn't. And it still doesn't. That is, on my computer it doesn't run. At all. I do get it to load the startscreen and I can tweak the settings, but nothing changes - there's just no way to get the world to load. It may be a problem of a combination of a thousand small things but the problem stands - years after release, the game that is being sold for money doesn't run on some up-to-date systems. So, do I recommend this game? A whole-hearted No.

I haven't played the original games back in the day, so when a remaster came out, I decided to give it a shot and see if the game aged well. The answer seems to be "no". The tabletop RPG it's based on, Das Schwarze Auge, is a clunkier, more boring cousin of D&D that gives you tons of options for character customization, then throws these characters into a long dull snoozefest of a combat. Miss. Miss. Spell failed. Miss.
But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I just scratched the surface, and the game has great gameplay once you get to know it. Maybe the worldbuilding is fantastic and the story is breathtaking. In this case, skip the remaster and go to the original version.
The remaser has hideous graphics — sure, they are 3d, but look way uglier than the original's pixel art. The translation is broken: voiceover doesn't match the subtitles, and some lines are just missing. And it keeps throwing loading screens at you, sometimes three times during a single event.
I might go back to Realms of Arkania one day and see if it's as good as people said it was back in the day. But if I do, it's going to be MS-DOS version.

carewolf

Looks and performs worse than a 20 year old game (the original looked better than this!), and the UI is god-awful. Combat is slow and clunky. Input doesn't work in Linux in fullscreen due to using an old buggy version of Unity and not updating it for two years.

As a previous game BoD, this game is far not for everyone. This game become much user friendly then BoD. Now you can choose "Simplified" option for levelling. Food, water, illnesses, and being encumbered are still your "friends", but inventory become at twice wider. No more rare random encounters during world traveling. Much of them become static and bound to place. Dungeons become more puzzle-difficult. And there are some places where you can loose almost all gear. Sad side - this game have many bugs, nothing that can't be avoided by save-load but some of them like stairs stuck is very frustrating. Few achievements are broken

Very fun. Has the odd graphical issue and crashed a few times in Lowagen on me, but overall it is very well done and I am enjoying it. I hope they remake the third so I can keep the team going!

Sorry the game is too hard again...part one was harder, but this was too hard. I play on easy mode to actually be able to finish a game. 6 undead dwarves and a zombie against 6 duds who only raised 1 time in the game is not fair. They miss about 70% of the time. Spells don't work. Game is too hard. Was a fun game but no fun when it gets impossible. So sad about this because it is the type of game that is very fun.

This game seems like it would be good and it quite possibly is.
The problem is that most of the mechanics are "hidden" from the player.
I played this for 5 hours and even after searching the internet for answers I'm still not sure how to heal or regain manna.
At the very least this game should have come with a comprehensive manual.
As it is now you just have to read the in game tips (often between the lines) and hope you stumble upon the right way to do things. The tips might tell you that it is advisable to do such and such, when it really should have told you "to heal, you need to do this". Also; I read it should be possible to get in game help, but nowhere in this game does it say how you can do this. For f***s sake at the very least they could have thought us the controls ...

As I said this game might be a good game, but after 5 hours just stumbling around and getting beaten at least twice in every combat I gave up on the last one where a band of 10 orcs descended upon my clueless bunch of nitwits and after the 4th failed attempt at casting a spell the game told me had a 98% chance had drained all my manna, I quit.
I did not rage quit, I just lost all hope.

Edit: At least I got 5 achievements. I'm gonna use those to buy myself something nice ...

I didn't play old game but this game has some charm to enjoy
it also has a character editor and a story encounter editor so you can make mission

PROS:
Old music rework for better sounding

CONS:
-Looks worse than the original from 1994
-The game looks raw, as if it was made just recently
-There are some bugs with dissapearing character portraits
-The fucking right-clicking for menu annoys like hell
-The game mechanics on camping a very easy one but annoying to use could be implemented very ease, and still you must click all your gathering and hunting actions
-Standing near doors sometime 1 in 10 cases does not trigger entering the building
-Large tooltips (for mage staffs, crystal, maybe more...) are unscollable, a lot of information is not very user-friendly to read.

Overall, it is a great idea to give good old game new life, but please put some more effort into it, the minor bugs and play mechanics makes this game tiring. I think on current stage the game has a hight price,
