I really enjoyed this game, it keeps you going and when you are really into it you end up sitting at the edge of your seat trying to dodge but attack but run away. It keeps you going that's for sure, it's different. I would suggest reading the how to so you can get the "what is what" on the screen. I also like the puzzle aspect of it, not going to spoil it for you guys but yeah I like that. I would recommend this game for sure :):)

FUN AF! Haven't got so much fun playing roguelike shooter since 20MTD.

** What i love:
1. Proper artistic direction, love when developers follows through everything when doing pixel art or something minimalistic.
2. THE VOICE.
3. Music and sounds, that actually have impact.
4. Really fun and engaging gameplay loop.
5. The humour.

** What needs more work:
1. Perks.
a) Downsides for some are too much of compromise to even consider choosing.
b) Things like 5% reduced cooldown needs too much line-up rolls, to actually have some kind of positive outcome in core gameplay.
c) Not much of variety, not feeling like actually making some kind of build with perks, just waiting to get to the same meta, eventually.
2. Weapons.
a) Laser gun feels underpowered even with all the useful perks.
b) Sniper might need a bit more of a damage; it's really cool when there's only few enemies but it's severly underperforms later because of the fire/reload rate.
3. I think that autoshoot character should have some kind of downside, or buff manually shooting characters. If there's no difference in power then why should i bother with normal character?

** Also few things to consider in matter of QOL changes:
1. Maybe add some kind of tooltips to gameplay modes.
2. Respec for evolutions?
3. Add small number in evolution square with cost, so i'm not forced to check every single upgrade cost with mouse hovering after getting one more evolution.

When I first looked at this game I expected your regular "vs-clone", which for me isn't a bad thing since I love this sub-genre, but instead what I found was a game with deeply different mechanics, which is very refreshing.

Game is already fun and challenging, it looks good, controller support is well done, and I am looking forward to more contents being added.

Really fun. There's something here for everyone

Do you like the recent trend of top-down autobattler games like Vampire Survivors? There's a character for that.
Do you prefer traditional twin-stick shooters where you decide where and when you shoot? There's a character for that.
Do you want to try something a little different, with a character that only moves when he dashes? You guessed it, there's that, too.

Do you like to spend points you accumulate in a run on metaupgrades that persist between runs? You got it.
Do you prefer games where you have the same stats going into every run so you know if you're actually improving skill, not just stats? You get that, too.

Daily runs? Yep.
Weekly runs? Yep.

Starting loadouts? Yep. Pick your character (of those mentioned above), Weapon, weapon mod, cooldown ability, ability mod. Loads of variation.

But is it actually fun? Yes. I think so, anyway. 9 out of 10 dentists agree.

Fun game with a decently involved gameplay loop. You shoot enemies with a weapon of your choice, mine crystals for more XP and absolve various small challenges until the boss arrives and you can move on to the next stage.

The timed escalation feels a lot like in Risk of Rain, making you consider whether it's worth to do another challenge on the current stage or continuing onwards.

Weapon balance feels a bit off currently but that could be resolved.

I'm excited to see the 3 remaining new characters and other additional choices and variance during the course of early access.

a nice blend of roguelite features in a bullet heaven game style. A quirky art style and item/ability set is quite charming. Work your way around a map, mining your way to events and crystals, defend miners, shatter obelisks, defeat bosses, and combine melee and a nice variety of ranged weapons to find your own style.
Yes its hard, its very hard, the difficulty ramps up incredibly quickly, but it never feels unfun or unrewarding to play.

There are some issues on readability, its very hectic on screen and its sometimes hard to see exactly where damage is coming from, but its early days and in development and the dev seems pretty responsive and open to listening to player feedback, which is always what you want in a game.
This game is fun now and looks like its got great potential.

Most fun game in it's genre! At least for me.
It doesn't have that much content for now but there is a steady stream coming in currently, and the dev is back at it after some time off due to personal life matters.

If you like the "bullet heaven", "survivor-like", "reversed bullet hell" or what you might want to call this genre of games, AND digging your own path trough terrain in the style of Dungeon Keeper or voxel based games than this game is the right match for you!

Lovely art-style, nice scaling difficulty and build variety makes this game surely worth more than just the asking price of 4€!

JohnnyMangoes

Fun. Dunno why more people don't own this

Edit: saw other comments about lack of content, I can see maybe how it would ironically be a bit repetitive but hopefully the dev can add more content. The fundamentals of this game are fantastic, art, style, music, voiceover, flare, etc., just needs more content and variety.

As a solo dev I know how hard it is making stuff, and the guy clearly has passion for this game, just hope he can be financially rewarded in adding stuff as well.

Double Edit: Dev just added new content a day after this review. It's awesome. He obviously has poured a lot of love into this game.

This game is better than most in the genre in terms of gameplay. Its pretty fun but it has no reason to keep playing. it needs some progression, stat power up. the crystal you gather are all but useless expect for the rare chance you find a shop on the one of the levels.

Repentendium is an awesome game that will keep you hooked from start to finish. The graphics are simple yet cute and the gameplay is challenging yet fun. The game has rogue-like elements and random drops which makes it even more exciting. You’ll feel the threat of an unseen evil stalking you at every turn which adds a layer of suspense to the game. I also love the chicken character in the game! I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves a good adventure game with a twist.

This is an absolute corker. Takes elements of nuclear throne and vampire survivors and blends them beautifully. Visually it's a treat, with gorgeous pixel art and fluid animations. Sound design is on point, and the announcer voice-overs are brilliant.

It's in EA but I've got thousands of hours in roguelites of all different genres/styles, and this is absolutely worth the asking price already.

11/10.

So, here's the thing with this game.

It is incredibly well thought out with simple but aesthetically awesome graphics and crazy synergy potential. It's also super cheap and has a lot of different starting options to add some versatility. I've spent most of my time with one character and one gun, and I can see the huge amounts of stuff to do with other characters, mods, guns, and specials.

However, there are a few caveats. Firstly, the player's choices for characters and whatnot are important for their playstyle for the first 10-15 minutes of the game, because it'll determine how you can take out bosses, and use your skills to your advantage. However, beyond that, there really is no difference between your runs. It's the same upgrades upgrading the same stats and sure some upgrades are better or worse depending on your character but it's never really enough to add a layer of strategy. As I said, for the first 10-15 minutes, your upgrade choices are important, the way you use your character is important, and it's super fun, but after that it starts to feel a bit same-y.

But that's not to say that same-y is necessarily a bad thing, the bullet heaven genre is typically great at creating satisfaction when you can decimate every enemy on your screen with a single click, but I've found most of my runs end that way - I don't think the balance is quite right yet. For example, I absolutely obliterate most bosses and enemies, and pretty much the only way to die is to not see an enemy's projectile in the slew of your own bullets and particles.

I'm by no means running an ultra PC, but the game does become laggy very fast compared to other games like Vampire Survivors or Brotato with similar amounts of projectiles. I presume the lighting is very expensive, but even then it's madness how fast this drops from 60fps to 12. I've ended up having to play this on my Steam Deck but even then it loses performance after a little while too.

Ultimately, this is a super cool game with ultra satisfying game play. It manages to stand out in the blur of bullet heaven games and I think with balancing changes and potentially some more biome/enemy diversity in later stages it could become a staple of this emerging genre! Despite its flaws, I would certainly recommend checking it out!

Nop, and here's why.

The game starts awesome, the pixel art is great, the music, the humor, the gameplay loop, but...

There's nothing more to it than what you have at the beginning; it is literally the same waves of enemies, the same upgrades, the same weapons, the same enviroments -heck-, after a couple of rounds, you'll even be fighting the same bosses.

The game is lacking two of the biggest things in rogue likes, or games in general: an ending, an actual way of finishing it, and variety.

Until it gets more variety or an ending, it'll just be a good game with some scoring systems scattered around here and there. Now, if you'll looking for that, you'll be pleased with this game, but I personally need more.

It's just, it is a game with a lot of untapped potential, because the vision of the developer seems to be mainly built around the idea of getting scores and upgrades, to get even higher scores, I need a finale; it's one of the reasons as to why I really like "The Binding of Isaac" you can replay that game as many times for the gameplay, but you'll always know it'll finish eventually.

Jackryl Ebonclaw
Jackryl Ebonclaw

You can play as a disturbingly calm-looking chicken with a sledgehammer and a Gatling gun and demolition-dash through walls into caverns full of monsters before mag-dumping into them with a side of drunk rockets and missed shots bouncing off cave walls to hit enemies in the arse. And you get to help a Doggo feed his family. If all that doesn't sell it to you, you have no soul.

Seriously though, this is a very nice twin-stick shooter. It has a good amount of features without being overloaded, so everything feels meaningful. Buffs are short-lived but powerful, upgrades are immediately noticeable; none of that 1% or 2% increase here, you get a 20% boost to fire-rate and you feel it. Level modifiers and random optional challenges keep things interesting without being frustrating. There are 'only' six weapons, but each has three 'modded' forms on top of the vanilla, making 24 distinct ways to dole out damage. Same for special abilities. I really like this approach as opposed to having a few dozen nominally different weapons that only have minor functional differences, just for the sake of big numbers in the game blurb.

I like meta-progression, and this game has it. However, I find myself playing the original high-score-chaser mode more, which pleasantly surprised me. Maybe because it also includes meta-progression in the purest form in gaming; you. You'll learn enemy attack patterns, what risks you can get away with, what synergies work, and you'll get further. It's a good feeling, more noticeable than in other games I've played over the past couple of years (Bullet Heavens generally, which I should stress this game isn't), because I'm not unlocking stuff that makes me more badass; I'm becoming more of a badass in myself. Relatively speaking, at least.

There are a few elements of the game that aren't explicitly stated that are important to survival and progression, but figuring them out is satisfying so I won't spoil them. Suffice to say I haven't found anything that's ultimately unfair so far, just part of a learning curve.

The dev is also active on the forums and open to chat about the game's features, which is another big reason I'm leaving a good review; lots of devs talk about getting player feedback, Bearlex actually does. But at the same time he has a vision for how the game should be, and won't just add or change something if he's not comfortable with it. I respect that a lot, and it's likely why the game is as solid and coherent as it is; it's not been compromised by trying to keep everyone happy.

Overall, two opposable feathers way up.

I was looking for a game that´s similar to "enter the gungeon". finally found it. you´re a chicken with a minigun, shooting countless enemys while listening to hardrock/metal. do you need anything else?

Very enjoyable.

Extremely good replay-ability, even though its early access, the game is very fluid, choices matter, but there is very little pigeon-holing like other action rogue-likes.
Many games have a hard time with incorporating double edged upgrades. I think Repetendium does a good job of this, for example, I could keep boosting firerate, but Mr. Chicken dumps the mag so fast there is little ammo for sustained fire, it encourages you to choose various upgrades, and there are a lot to choose from.

P.S. - The dev's choice of a fireaxe wielding chicken shows you they have a sense of humor XD. Great game man, hope you keep developing it!

What the dog doin
What the dog doin

what the chicken doin wit dat fire axe and double barrel.

hope the dev considers making giga knockback and corpse damage from melee like in nuclear throne, it was one of my favourite things about that game and nobody has really done it again.

solid foundation, just needs a little more content (which it's getting at a good pace) and it should be an astrobanger

Ajurdenofilios

Good game, of the horde survivor genre that brings new elements. For such an early version I haven't found hardly any bugs.

Perhaps it lacks to polish the balance in some cards, as for example the one that gives a 10% chance of multiplying the amount of crystals per node is essential that it comes out very early in the game if you want to advance.

Another shortcoming is the game's update rate. Being a small indie game, it doesn't help that half a year has passed between one update and the next. In this respect the developer should take note of games like Boneraiser Minions, whose developer included small weekly updates in the game that kept the game always fresh and with new challenges.

Updated as of 8 April.

Happily the regular updates seem to have arrived. Thank you developer for offering us constant small improvements. These small constant updates are to be welcomed rather than big updates every so often, as I said in an indie game the small but regular updates keep the interest of those of us who own the game, and for potential buyers it gives them a sense of security in the project encouraging them to buy a game that stays active.

All the updates so far in my opinion have improved the gameplay, making the game even better. Perhaps I would add an auto-save option if you exit the game, as the games can be long, and in order not to lose progress sometimes it is a bit forced to continue the current run.

Highly recommended if you want a simple but addictive game.

This game is a lot of fun and very interesting. Im actually quite sad its not receiving more attention. The only issue i have is it doesnt have a lot of variety yet. I love the characters and the different builds and play styles, everything can feel both broken and super underpowered at the same time. Its a very odd feeling.

Repetendium is action packed fun with deep customisation, I love it!
Early access, but this game feels fully complete, I highly recommend it.

I don't like the 5 minute timer forcing me to change levels is my only criticism. Great game but I hope this one aspect is changed. Should make time-is-up boss killable, or else make it move slower, or else remove timer.

Would also love to see multiplayer in this game or a sequel.

Epic find, so so good. this game has an awesome sound track, a multitude of weapon and character combinations (of which there will be more in the future), weapons are satisfying to use, the large enemy reminiscent of the reaper in spelunky is great as it creates a sense of urgency and makes the game fast paced, I did find myself using different items for different play-throughs. the way the game works is you spawn in and mine your way through dirt, gems and enemies ;) to different events that spawn in (such as defend a drill, shop or destroy a obelisk that spawns ghost enemies) then when time comes run to an exit and go to the next level (each level having a quirk i.e. meteors, re-spawning walls/dirt etc..). my only gripe is that there could be more enemy variation and more event variation (but the game is still very fun and worth the £3). the devs did a great job :)

mrkleckner
mrkleckner

Game really doesn't have much going for it. Weapons are underpowered and fairly run of the mill, I do like how you can mod them...but most of the mods are just as underwhelming as the guns. Upgrades are the same. You have standard pierce, bounce, and so on. Only unique thing about the game is the digging, which I just find annoying. Also huge enemy power spike after the 1st level. Just get mobbed by a bunch of elite style monsters who's abilities are better than yours and are bullet sponges. Whole game just needs a massive retune. Only really great thing is that it was only $4, so not much wasted. Major pass.

ik what it says, currently played for 8 hours, but every hour is a good dose of fun destruction and chaos! not to mention that game is going to grow and grow looking at the things planned, and one of the nicest developers i have met so far, enjoyed every second of this game so far and i doubt that'l ever change, i do recommend this game, whether your're trying out new things, or looking to dig yourself deeper into this genre, looking forward to many more hours of fun and joy

its worth it!

Arubis

Recommending as its got a great sound track and nice Nuclear Throne vibe and the potential is there.

Currently it feels like they have made the difficulty ramp too fast to artificially cover the lack of content. An example is that in chests, you ll come across the same 5 drops and so once you get the one you need, keys become pointless.

A lot of potential if the devs commit to it

Edit: Correcting my comment around the lack of a range upgrade as projectile speed perk boost range. Great to see a responsive dev. Makes me recommend it all the more

I watched Ultra C play this and decided to buy it on a whim, this in fact was a good idea. I enjoy how while the upgrades are luck based, there is the only limit on rerolls being how much you are willing to spend on crystals, and how the deciding factor so far for me has been skill not random BS "HA you died to level gate" non-sense. Also I enjoy very much that this game works perfectly with Proton so I can play it on a Linux Mint OS

So i wanted to wait until i have 20 hours in game to get a generic ideea about the game and leave a potent review.I broke top record a couple times and i was in top for a long time so i know how to rate certain perks and mechanics with decent accuracy.

This is my honest feedback:

PROS:
-Game is great, feels very nice and plays very smooth. Also not very easy so there is a good level of replayability
-I enjoy the mining system and i like that you have generated maps
-love the uniqueness of the characters, guns, abilities and the costumizability you can add
-I love how fast and dedicated the dev team is
Cons:
-Playing melee doesn't feel great and you dont really have enough support through perks (or im trash lol)
-Worms are really strong (they turn too fast, have lots of hp and deal too much dmg compared to other enemies) having all these factors in mind they can end your run too fast if you dont get great perks early on (personaly i would nerf their turn speed a bit).

For a roguelike/roguelite (whatever you want to name it) this is a 9.5/10

Great time killer and it gets very catchy. Also fighting for the leaderboard is super fun

it has a lot going for it! i’ve enjoyed it thus far and often i want to come back and play it. however, every time i do, i just end up feeling like the game’s scaling is out of wack.

pros:
- fun art style
- good perks and upgrades
- good weapon customization to make the runs a little different each time
- cool objectives
- performs great on the steam deck

cons:
- maybe i didn’t read the tutorial page as much as i thought i did. but i seriously don’t understand my objective, and there is an invisible time limit on the level. could be more clear.
- i find that as soon as i’m fighting the boss on just the first level, i die. it does an absurd amount of damage. (hence the scaling i mentioned prior)
- i kind of wish there was more enemy variety. as in, once i’m at depth 2 it looks identical to depth 1 and i think it would benefit from at the very least a different color palette on each stage, but definitely would be even better with new enemies.
- maybe more variety of randomized events?
- i feel like the enemy auto targeting isn’t very consistent, especially on the enemies that float through walls and i found my character would often just embrace getting shot at. this is a problem since i can’t shoot manually and override the auto shoot.

overall i really love the potential of this game and i will be looking forward to future updates.

Just started playing, but wanted to help a bit the visibility of the game :) Mix Nuclear Throne with Vampire Survivors, sprinkle some (light) mining/digging mechanic, and you've got Repetendium (some enemies also remind me a bit of RoR). It's a little rough around the edges (needed to tweak the resolution scaling) but super promising if you like the games I mentioned above! Good luck to the devs with early access!

Really fun game. The shooting and mining bring a different spin on the current bullet hell type games that are popular now. I had about 10 hours in the demo and there is a lot more to do in the full version, so getting really good value for my money!

There are different characters with different mechanics and the different guns and abilities all have options to select when choosing them giving them a bit more of a custom feel and allows you to find a playstyle you like. Can't be bothered to aim? Choose the soldier, who will do the aiming shooting for you leaving you to concentrate on melee and mining. Fancy yourself a bit of a sniper or just really like chickens wielding sledgehammers? Get some Pollo action on.

Classic mode has a good amount of replayability with daily/weekly/global leaderboards you can aim for a good score on, or go for the evolution mode, which has roguelike elements and a currency you can collect to buy upgrades (and it's own set of daily/weekly/etc leaderboards).

Just buy it, you won't be disappointed. Costs less than you'd spend stuffing a small amount of junk food in your face, and will bring a lot more enjoyment for far longer.

Super fun for an early release game! I love the art style and combat system, extremely satisfying when it speeds up. Though I must say it doesn't seem like the game is scaled well. One boss is significantly more difficult than the other, but doesn't yield better reward on defeat. And despite all the upgrades, your damage and abilities will never match the scaling of the enemies, so second level is almost impossible to complete. I also can't figure out what the progression is in this game, repeatedly dying at the same stage with nothing to show.

The following issue was fixed.
"While the game might have full controller support, it does not have full mouse and keyboard support. There is no option to disable the controller and so the game refuses to recognise my mouse movement. As a result I can't aim at all."

I'm changing this review to a recommend with one very large caveat, this game is HARD.
I am way too much of a casual player to get my fill, this might change if I manage to figure the game out, but right now it seems a bit to punishing for my tastes.

Having said that, the mechanics of it are great and as such it's a game I want to like, the structure of a timed dungeon that needs escaping stacked against the xp grind of crystal mining is an interesting puzzle and makes combat a bit more interesting since racing to find more crystals and racing to find the exit are both important and deciding wether to keep fighting or running is a bigger choice in this game than other similar ones i've played.
The character and weapon choices are interesting as they do change how you play the game, however the level upgrades are mostly basic stat upgrades from what i've seen so far with a few exceptions but nothing to marvel at.

edit: i want to edit my review to include some feedback. obviously developer plans to add more content.

-one thing i think it needs is a mini map showing powerups and stairs down.

-another thing i would like to see is that if you complete a perk 5/5 you get some kind of unique bonus. an example would be the ammo regen on kill perk. if you get 5/5 maybe it automatically starts reloading and can cancel reloading to fire. or something really powerful like this.

-abilities need to be reworked there is no reason to pick anything other than turrets and brap.

-i can't imagine a run without expert miner and dashfull, maybe that means they are too strong or you should have some version of them automatically. just a thought.

it's a real cool game.

Ever wondered what happened to the chicken in the old 'Why did the chicken cross the road?' Ask Pollo, Pollo is armed with some powerful weapons, great abilities, ohhhh and Pollo is good at mining too. Pollo is a chicken BTW. I kid you not, I can almost hear an aggravated gravel voiced announcer 'Ask Pollo why he crossed the road one more damn time.' followed quickly by 'CHOOSE YOUR WEAPON'

Nah..... I am just kidding. Pollo and the gravel sounding aggravated voice ain't got no time for chicken jokes. But, the rest of the story is true.

The game you needed, but, didn't know it. Is here. (Gravel voiced Announcer) BUY THIS GAME!

So, so good. Nuclear throne style gameplay with mining and fully destructable terrain, risk of rain style difficulty escalation, and a killer presentation. I can't wait to see what else is in store.

As it is right now, I'd recommend this. The game is very promising and the dev appears to be putting in a lot of work to further improve it, but it's perfectly playable now. Though it is a bit challenging.
