This just isn't a fun game.

Yes, it's a mobile port, and if you want to use that as an excuse to forgive its shortcomings, then good on you! But I am judging it based on how fun it is to play.... and it isn't.

The controls aren't nearly as precise as any of the mainline Resident Evil entries, including even RE4, released years earlier.

The graphics are "enhanced" from the 3DS version, but are still wildly subpar. (Take a look out any window and notice a gigantic vertical seam in the basic skybox, because it's actually a *box*.)

The classic RE navigation is mostly intact, but feels streamlined and linear, cut up into bite-sized mobile chunks that ruin exploration and any sense of real place. So you pass locked doors, but you won't access them until a later chapter forces you in a streamlined fashion to go back, so there's no requirement to learn your environment. Which is a good thing, because the map is utterly, completely, shamefully uninformative.

Combat is fine.... just fine. But it's also inconsistent and lacks that visceral feedback of the mainline series. You don't get those satisfying headshots and stuns and crunchy, squishy sounds. It feels basic and janky.

There's a scanning mechanic, which is cool, but it's also how you find items, which means breaking immersion and taking your scanner out every 20 feet of movement to see what's hidden around you. This hurts the game's pace and atmosphere.

The game's writing, from cutscene dialogue to item descriptions, was clearly not handled by a native English speaker, or an intelligent person for that matter. Hey writers - a manifest isn't a flight plan. It's a list of passengers, and you can't navigate with it. Or how about this item description:

"The bright green herb not only heals fatigue, but it also helps to strengthen the natural healing process so that wounds heal faster."

If that sentence doesn't trigger you, maybe you'll raise an eyebrow when your female companion shouts, "Me and my sweet ass are on the way!"

Unless you're a diehard Resident Evil completionist, this is an easy game to skip. Watch a story summary if you want to know its implications to the silly-as-bananas Resident Evil lore, but otherwise you can find much, much better survival horror shooters to play out there.

This was my first ever resident evil game, at the age of 13 I first played it myself on the Playstation 3 and got to see what it was like. I picked it up again in 2017 on the PS4. It's only recently that I got a proper gaming PC, in 2020 when I started playing again.

Everything looks crisp and clear no matter what settings you put on it and it runs on even older hardware perfectly fine. (Given that you put it at around 720p, it's quite rare for it to run smoothly at 1080p on older hardware of course.)

Story had a couple holes but they aren't worth mentioning, and the fact that this has just become canon to the series is a joy.
For those who are looking for a short (approx. 6-8 hours) but sweet spookfest, I really recommend it. It's done in episodes so that the player can have a short session before returning to it, doesn't make for the greatest binging because you'll have the constant 'previously, on resident evil revelations' cutscenes but other than that it's a great game.

And for those who are wanting to get into resident evil, this is a good game to start with, even for those who are uncomfortable with horror. It sets you down slowly rather than throwing you right in the deep end when it comes to horror tropes, of course there's gore but that's expected with almost every horror game.
Either way, I absolutely love this game and will recommend it to those who are both hardcore resident evil fans, and those who are just starting out in the Resident Evil Series.

I originally purchased this back in 2012 for my 3DS, this game was enjoyable then and is still enjoyable now. in all its episodic style glory, RE:R packs a punch mixed with the perfect balance of horror and action, and decent combat, but doesn't overwhelm you with too much at once. The episodic direction Capcom went for was a little confusing at first but playing it now, years later, makes much more sense, and I actually enjoyed it. The movement is a little jank, and the dodging system works half of the time, but these aren't deal breakers in the slightest. If this game is on sale, I highly recommend it if you want a game that isn't super hard but still engaging. Raid mode is sadly long past its expiration date but can still be played solo which is still pretty fun.

Had fun playing this game but had a few issue.

Game had some really cheap death moments. I died a few times because my character bugged out and got stun locked by laser in a swimming section which knocked me right back into the laser repeatedly killing me. I also got randomly one shoted because as it turns out if two hunters do their strong attack at the same time you'll take both hit at the same time dying instantly. This isnt scripted or intended and this just happens randomly so during one point. This happened immediately after I got into the elevator and the door open with 3 of them doing their lunge attack as soon as the door open and I died instantly.

Some segments especially with the Quint and Keith are literally 3 minute sections where they walk around with no combat at all. Why did you make me go through an entire cutscene, preview and score board for 3 minutes of walking? This is especially insulting after I remember that this game was originally sold in separate episode so some of these episode are literally 6 minutes long in total in two segment when you take control of the two.

Edit: I'm taking my upvote back. After playing Inferno difficulty this game pisses me off. Instead of harder in terms of a greater challenge it uses a lot of cheap enemy placement doing cheap shots by the game. Mobs spawning immediately behind you or you walk right into a room where the enemy mob already wind up their attacking making them basically unavoidable damage. This difficulty isnt hard after one death because almost all the times I got hit in this difficulty was because they were unexpected cheap shots. It turned this feeling of survival horror where I take caution step by step to essentially a series of trial and error then reset.

One that especially pissed me off the most was during the no-weapon section where in inferno mode one of the late game elite shield units spawn in a tight corridor. What I think it wants me to do is to dodge it and run to the door but the fucking thing was stuck on one of the drawer and when I do a dodge it still blocks the door and it turned to me repeatedly dodging this mob that basically can one shot me over and over until I manage to push to mob enough after 10+ perfect dodge and touched the door and immediately got one shoted by the mob in the next room before I could even respond. Fuck you capcom for this kind of b.s design.

This is especially annoying because on inferno enemy have significantly higher health, do more damage and move faster. Jill can compensate this through using better weapon modification but the problem is all these shitty side story characters can't use modification so you have more enemy less ammo and do even less damage to them. Mind you by the last stooge mission Jill weapons can be modified to shoot up to 300% more damage (Damage increase, crit, close damage, etc) and even then a normal mob is starting to take a decent clip to kill even if you aim for the weak spots. These side character also dont have pouch upgrades so you're carrying enough ammo to kill 4 to 5 enemy but they throw 10+ against you at once.

I got a even bigger middle finger after realizing if you do not pick up the ammos around the map at a certain episode some will disappear. In the OG resident evil if you have max inventory and you dont need to pick up the extra ammo laying around you could always wait and come back later when you need it. At one point I was capped on ammo. I was relying on killing multiple enemy with 1 charged rifle round to get by because I know the more later on ammos on this difficulty will have less ammo. So I didn't grab a decent amount of ammos and later on after several boss fight I was starting to run low only to find that the ammos that were suppose to be there no longer exist. I lost a decent amount of ammo because and all the while they kept throwing more ammo pouch as some kind of sick joke. This also happened to healing items. If you picked up any healing items from the 1st episode you lose them by the second. This is especially a fuck you moment because if you don't pick them up the first time around you would be able to find them again when you revisit the area in a later episode so you have scenario you have section that punish you for grabbing items and losing them and not grabing items and they disappear and I'm convinced this wasnt an intentional decision because this seems to come and go on a episode to episode basis which most likely means they just didnt give too much thought when they made one episode and forget about it later. This strongly contradict resident evil's back tracking nature because you are punishing player in one episode for not exploring and grabbing everything and punish people for doing the opposite in the next.

I guess in 2022 this game is eclipsed by the excellent RE2 remake, but REREV was for the time a good compromise between RE5 and the old ones. It's still quite fun to play. Lots to unlock.

This game would be much better if they'd cut these filler flashbacks when you have to kill just one hundred of *enemy_name* on each level by Chris, Parker and these two clown guys from FBC. Anyway, the main part of this game is still really good.

One of my most favorite Resident Evil games. I like how you not going to a crazy amount of places and just sticks to a couple of places and the fighting in this game is actually quite easy and a lot of fun. I have played this about 4-5 times. I even had to buy this on multiple consoles because its such a great game.

This is one of my favorite RE games with a complex story and nice game play. The story takes place between the events of RE 4 and RE 5. I really liked the Raid Mode as well. I highly recommend this game.

Rivent
Rivent

Underrated entry. RE5 combat with slower pacing for tension. Some clunkiness being a 3DS port but graphic are bumped up to an Xbox 360 standard. Cruise ship setting really suits the series with its tight fitting corridors and new slimy creatures. Over the top plot full of cheesy one liners. Campaign is single player but there is an unlockable co-op raid mode.

Sailor Chris has changed my life. It was love at first sight, truly. Sailor Chris is a beautiful man who deserves more recognition. The way his uniform shines the light of god into my eyes randomly is just so lovable. He's simply the best character and I have a romantic interest in STRICTLY his Sailor uniform. I don't know where I would be today without sailor Chris in my life. He's simply just gorgeous and I become erect whenever I see him. A few years ago, when I was in a dark place, A super, INCREDIBLY ultra dark place, all it took was one look at that gorgeous man in his beautiful (and well-fitting) sailor uniform, to cure my depression in an instant. I am so happy and so lucky to have met this beautiful, godly man. It's as if he was carved from stone and sent down from the heavens. This is why he gives me a boner. It's as if Jesus himself sent Sailor Chris down to me. I may see JUST his back 98% of the time but he is still the most gorgeous man I'll ever meet. His existence proves that there is a God. It was the man himself, sailor Chris, the man who ascended from heaven itself. Sailor Chris is love, Sailor Chris is life. Get a little Sailor Chris in YOUR life today.

One of the better out of this era of Resident Evil

Don't get me wrong it's nowhere NEAR RE7, RE8 or even the remakes but it aimed to bring a little more horror back into the franchise.

Was it successful? Somewhat, it's a fun game to play and runs really good (it was a 3DS game first and it's graphics do show at points) not great but fun

Feast for the Damned
Feast for the Damned

Boring, stupid, and generally nonsensical

As someone who doesn't like almost any of the mainline Resident Evil games, I still fondly remember playing RE Revelations 2's first episode with my cousin in co-op when it came out. This is the main reason I even gave the first game of the spin-off series even a try and I must admit, even if I had some fun with it, Revelations is an incredibly dull and predictable game.

Me having fun with the game can largely be attributed to wanting to play something that doesn't require me to use my brain after having played loads of rather immersive and long games. If it wasn't for that, I would have probably quit halfway through because there really isn't anything unique or well-done about it. The story is insanely cheesy in all the wrong ways, all the twists are either stupidly predictable or they don't even make any sense, and the voice acting and the dialogue is painfully bad, but combined with the typical japenese body language animations, it feels like a damn fever dream.

Of course, that's just the story mode of the game (which is arguably the main selling point of RE games), but considering the gameplay aspect is rather mediocre, I can't really find a reason for me to bother playing the Raid Mode and fight off waves of monsters and such. It's a step up from Resident Evil 4 sure, but it's nowhere near the level of Dead Space which came out 4 years earlier (!!!). And while we are at Dead Space, that game isn't perfect either, but is pretty weird how that game happens to outclass Revelations graphically as well, although, originally being a 3DS game, I'm willing to let that slide.

To conclude this review, I would not recommend anyone buying this game for the full price, but if you happen to be the biggest RE5 fan to ever live, I guess it's worth to grab during a sale.

This game is what Resident Evil 6 should have been. Combat and gunplay is decent, the atmosphere is more horror-oriented and gloomy, and the story is on a global scale but focuses on a small group of characters as they uncover the mystery behind a derelict cruise ship.

This isn't a very memorable game, but it is a nice light refresher into the franchise and does not take long to complete. Although it should be mentioned that the map and AI partners are not very helpful.

RevolverRex
RevolverRex

This game has some of the weird design visually but, overall it is a good game and the first half of the game has a very RE1 feel which is nice. The episodic/ mystery element to the game is cool and makes for a different and interesting story. The gameplay is solid but no RE4 or 5 but on of the best parts of this game is the Raid Mode which allows for hours of replay value with different missions, characters and weapons to unlock and level up as well as online play

This is one of the best Resident Evil games ever, and probably the best I've played so far. Movement is fluid, controls are solid, the pace is great. Overall very nice mechanics, story, graphics, music, everything... I just love it.

RSRonin
RSRonin

Definitely worth a play through if you're an RE fan.

Decent blend of action and horror with more classic elements mixed in alongside collectables/secrets.

Only real downsides are the episodic nature of the game kind of spoils the pace of the game while you're playing it and while the port isn't terrible it's not great either, mostly because of the controls.

the game starts very good in a dark side of a big ship a lot is happening you know some cinematics and gameplay but after just 1 hour the game completly changes to a very generic boring action game without mechanics at all just shooting 4 or 5 shoots and the enemies die, 0 difficulty not like other resident evil games, if it wasnt for the story... very average videogame, bland game
anyways i was playing this game just for the cronologically order of the events for the next resident evil but the game sucks,
just watch a video if you like the lore and the story matters to you and go to resident evil 5

I heard people say this was the last scary RE game for a while, and yeah it sure as hell was scary, it's a shame the next RE game was 6 and didn't receive good feedback (I haven't played it yet so I won't judge it). This game felt like it was the beginning for modern 3rd-Person RE games. It had the horror, and it had the action with the right amount of ammo to kill literally everything -minus the perfect run and don't gun sequences just gtfo-

Casey
Casey

Not the best, but not the worst either. I do believe when people say this game is better that RE6 and that it might've saved RE as a whole, however, this game still suffers from same issues RE4 suffered, weird aim, spongey enemies and spazing, few bugged camera moments etc. Aiming still felt same as it did in RE4 and that game came out in like 2004.

It's still a good game, but I don't think the game is worth it's full price, get it on sale.

DarkShadow
DarkShadow

Good game, you get to play as Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine again before the events of Resident Evil 5 so what more could you want.

sovietreunion
sovietreunion

Pretty solid 3DS port. FOV is horrible but there is a mod to fix it quite easily. This is not an old school RE game by any means and more of a third person action shooter with some horror elements here and there. The game has very broken pacing which flips between a decent ship section and a bunch of flashbacks, action set pieces of other characters. The story is serviceable to keep you going and not quite as ridiculous as the village for example.

+Fun game play with decent bosses and very light exploration
+good music
+usually on a decent sale if not free with other games
+not as bad as RE6, mechanics here make sense
+Characters are solid IMO, you got some Conan O'Brien looking dude, a comedic duo who cant keep track of a screwdriver for some reason, Jill and Chris, and also some dude with a Euro accent who looks like he was a general contractor for years prior to joining BSAA
+This game will run on a toaster I presume

-graphics are ehh.... handheld
-pacing is poor, too many breaks from the actual game I wanna play (Jill exploring the ship)
-no puzzles and very limited exploration
-"Previously on Resid..." this is not a goddamn TV show WTF.

Its usually cheap, try it out!

Story is good, gameplay is pretty fun, not too easy and not too complicated. A good episodic entry in a ship setting which I like. The real meat on the bones is the Raid mode...was not expecting to dump hours into that but it is addicting. The levels are pretty short (majority of them) but you can find new weapons, buy them, upgrade and level up your character to get S rank and the trinity bonuses too.

PCYnoob
PCYnoob

Probably the only resident evil game that I didn't recommended to others. It seems this game has some problem with aiming mechanisms. When I aim at the monster, it feels like the cursor is looked onto the monster. It is hard to move the cursor and aim for the head. I didn't turn on the aim assist.

And the other problem is the game is just like a maze. You need to memorize the path. Because if you want to collect all item, you need to go back to old area. If you forget the path, you will get lost easily and wonder around the same place for some time.

played 7 chapters so far.... i'll list the part that is cringe to me...

1) chris : oh no, i fall down and hurt my leg-! i can't get up unless someone pick me up, boohoo
2) Jill : omg, they took my weapons! my arms and legs are too frail for the fight!
3) Existence of Jessica
4) Quint, you look like nappa from Dragon ball especially with that scouter on your eye
5) Jackass duo gameplay basically unnecessary
6) overall character design (other than Jill and Chris) are hideous as f----

can't wait to finish this game. only buying it for the sake of the story. will uninstall later and moving on

I am a 52 year old father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my son, who is now 18. My son recently downloaded Resident Evil Revelations and in less than a week, he had already played for over 20 hours. This was terrible for me, as it was already hard enough for me to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching videos on Tiktok. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, did the tutorial but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought my son and I closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

Coming off playing RE6, this game is far better then said game. However, I find that they reuse the same enemies all the time. Even when they introduce a new enemy it's because going to be in the game from that point on. It has a better horror atmosphere but still isn't very scary. I like the ship setting as it makes me think of RE2.

A good game, not as amazing as resident evil 4 but just a good game. Here the story is different and not bad and you follow the continuation of the story of chris redfield and jill valentine from the first resident evil game. The camera and gameplay is pretty good that I had a good amount of fun playing through the game. But I would just play for the first time only. Overall, not much to say here other then that it is a good game for its time that I enjoyed the story of.

The funny thing is that at first I didn't like the game. But I decided to give her a second chance and now I'm absolutely delighted. Passed once and immediately at a high level of difficulty.

The first half of the game is a real Survival. It was difficult, constant problems with cartridges and first aid kits. Sometimes I just had to run dodging various creatures.
The second half of the game, I had already collected a large number of weapons and improvements to it, but it didn't get any more boring.

Each chapter of the plot looked like a TV series, with a backstory. The plot is not bad.

The Resident Evil that started it all... (for me anyway) Back when the 3DS was the thing to have I remember browsing the eshop for free games and found a demo RE: Revelations. Soon after I went to GameStop and got my first M rated game for the 3DS. When I first fought ______, she scared me so badly I went upstairs, turned the light on and waited for the sun to come up. Now I see this game as well as it's sequel as exceptional games that I would recommend to anyone looking for a good shooter/zombie game. The campaign has a good story and Raid mode is great, even if it's slightly dead. Still, team up with a friend and show them what for! Welcome to the world of Resident Evil!

As others have stated, this is a very underrated entry in the RE franchise.
Story is for events in between RE 4 and 5 although it doesn't have much to so with either, you are explained the founding of the BSAA, and some other key events that mildly explain stuff from RE 5.
I played this after playing through RE7 and 8 as the BSAA has a role there.

Gameplay is somewhere in between RE5 and 6. It has the clunkiness of 5, but you are able to move while ADSing, inventory management is non present, but the weapon upgrading system is probably one of my favorite in the series. You have to find two types of kits, regular upgrade kits and "illegal" upgrade kits. These are kits you can apply to your weapons at weapon storage boxes where you choose your loadout once you begin getting different weapons through searching or being rewarded by the game.

If I were to rate it on it's own merits it would be about a 7/10. But considering that it was a game originally on the 3DS that was later ported to console, I can't help but be impressed by how much game you got for a 3ds RE title. Overall, a solid 8/10 experience.

Pontos positivos:
* O jogo aposta no survival horror e isso funciona bem aqui devido a escolha de "cenário" ´principal para a campanha.
* Por incrível que pareça, a historia do jogo é bem interessante e conseguiu me segurar ate o final do jogo.
* Tem personagens interessantes aqui.
* O Arsenal do jogo é bem grande, muita variedade de armas e de customização para as mesmas.
* Não achei a experiência cansativa.

Pontos Negativos:

resident evil revelations was released right after RE6 and the game tries to revive the scary atmosphere of this series, it can be said that it is Capcom's first attempt to reduce the action flavor of the game... The story of RErev is a story unrelated to the original versions. which is a copy of the Cold Fear story made by Ubisoft's Toronto studio, but the biggest positive point is that Capcom was able to find the original path of fear again with this game. If you are a mystery lover, the story may seem ridiculous, but if you are looking for a horror and survival game, this is a great game to start with.
