Got very near the end but was unable to catch 6 objects thrown at me even using there "easy" variation for a cost of 10 points. This is not a puzzle but a test of reflexes and definitely aimed at gamers. Ultimately I was unable to progress so i had to simply give up. Very disappointing.

This is a direct sequel to "Return to Mysterious Island" Since first was an adventure game with a set ending, this game picks up where you left , gives a short summary about first game then lets you find your way in the island again.

Technical issues from the first game are gone but still , its stuck to 1024*768 so playing windowed is logical choice. No crash or speed up issues like the first one.

++Gameplay : Collect items, combine them to solve puzzles. There are multiple options and more than one way to achieve same stuff. This time however there are small games. Most of them repeatable so you can always find food etc. Some of them can be annoying till you get the hang of it, fishing for me for example, however there is an easy mode for them if you like. System is good overall, however there were times I wasn't able to see some of the things i had to click on screen.

+Story/setting: Second game pushed a little further on the islands story and it lost some of its "mystery". Still quite original though. Hand drawn comic like panels are nice but few.

+/-Sound/music/Graphics: They are ok for an old game but nothing brilliant.

If you managed to played the first or want a nice small game to pass time by, its good.

I don't use this word very often but I feel it is accurate to describe this game: dogshit. It's especially worse if you've played the first game as it tries to "solve" some of the more elusory details about Mysterious Island 1. Which collects into a compilation of poorly thought out, goofy crap such as a cult of monkeys determining what happens on the island, a secret underground alien facility, some dues ex machina evil gas. And remember those mysterious spires in the first game out on the water? Yeah, apparently that's also some kind of Morrowind-esc ghostgate deal which prevents you from leaving the island because the gas will spread and kill everything. So instead you have to become the next Captain Nemo and stay on the island to safe guard it or leave and watch Jep and everything else on the island die through cowardly inaction. And would you believe this all begins because of some cliche helicopter crash after a magical volcano fireball grounds it?

It's not all bad, though. Still, that almost makes it worse. There's a fun new mini game where you can get Jep to befriend other monkeys on the island by playing music for them, giving them gifts or grooming them. But this is the monkey-cult part of the game. Then you can explore the eastern side of the island. At first, this is a really fun part of the game where you see a whole new region and discover further details about the survivors who landed on Lincoln Island before you. But then you reach a beach which has a whole bunch of weird crap like magical Aztech tablets, instantly growing plants, magic paint and a stone face built into the side of the mountain that pukes out the gas. What I'm getting at is, the game leads you by the lip then punishes you with bullcrap in the last leg of the game. If it was just garbage through and through you could shut the game off fifteen minutes in and not waste your time.

It completely undermines the story and world the first game made by forcibly injecting magic voodoo alien shit into it. And who can forget Mina, right? The lovable, sweet, attractive, fit, resourceful curious navigator girl who got stuck in this whole mess? Well, she seems needlessly helpless in this game. I really can't describe it in full detail but I just feel like her character has been nearly assassinated here. Not to mention she's annoying. I don't know if they got her a new voice actress or something but she just feels whiny and condescending a lot of the time. I loved Mina in the first one but here she's just... eh.

I know the first game is supposed to be based of a Jules Vern novel of the same name and I wonder if this is a Game of Thrones type thing where they didn't have any more source material to work with and were creatively bankrupt individuals themselves so they genuinely tried to make something interesting but then ended up painting it all brown.

Anyways, don't play this game. It really isn't worth it especially if you're a fan of the first one, like me.

it is both charming and beautiful. the characters are likeable, and almost every obstacle has many ways that the player can overcome or bypass them. there is a lot of variety in them, leaving it infinitely replayable as you try alternative paths. Make a salald or burn the weed for soda? bribe the monkeys, or scare them away? there are so many choices.

Help!! in this game Michael Jackson and his pet monkey have run out of Diprivan and Benzodiazopines and need your help getting more (ala "Breaking Bad") or play the other side and help the State of Connecticut add Diprivan to its list of controlled substances and keep MJ from OD'ing. Either way save Never Never land in this mad cap adventure that pits you against substance abuse, animal rights issues, the DEA and law suits.

This game aswell as Return to Mysterious Island 1 is a point and click game, i first played no.1 however only lasted about half a minute before it crashes on me everytime, therefore can not write a review on this game, i bought both games in the bundle pack so thought id give this a try and so far, it has not crashed at all, i wouldnt recommend getting the bundle pack or no.1 on its own however no.2 is a good puzzle game that makes you think. I probly wont be playing this much however purely for the fact i dont like point and click games.

This game is kinda hard, actually. I didn't expect it to be that a challange.
But in the end it pretty much good. Though it would be best if you
bought "Return to Mysterious Island" before you bought "Return to Mysterious Island 2".
But in the end you deside. I Would definitely rate this game.

7-10.
Because i had some.. Some trouble understanding what i was going to do. xD

WARNING: This is not a game where you walk around an island and find things. This is a point and click. Graphics are ok, but when Mina talks, she just moves hermouth at IMPOSSIBLE speeds. So animatons SUCK. You also can't go freely, you must stay on a linear path. 1/10 for ok graphics.

Finished! I really liked the first game in the series, but this one is much more difficult and closer to a MYST-type game. Too many obscure clues/puzzles and too many situations where you have no idea what to do next ^^; I took a break about 3/4 through, though the story picks up a little later. There are two endings...make sure to see both!

Make third one dam'it!! The music, the breath taking vievs and sightseing, the ambiance, the frustration over puzzles and the punch of the game with all the emotional feelings and spot on vioce cast... ther is more to say but il end it with: Higly suggested for people who wants a fun calm time!

It's a return to the same island as the first game, with updated graphics. There is continuity involved between both the story and the objects from the first game. The second game's storyline does take a turn for the weird, but it was still fun. At first, it feels like you are stuck in the same small area of exploration on the island that was available in game 1, but it opens up as the story progresses. A few of the puzzles will feel familiar from game one, others are trial and error and few more require some thought. At the end, you are given a choice. You can play through both options if you want.

Excellent Game! 9.5/10

Picks up right where the first game leaves off. If you haven't played it, you have to - this 2 game set is an amazing experience. The puzzles range from easy to very difficult. This game adds a few new mechanics to the series. I won't spoil them for you, but know that if you played the first game (and even some of the other games in this company's library, like Journey to the Moon) Then you'll enjoy the ending parts of this one.

One small issue I've noticed that some people experience is the game launches with a BLACK SCREEN. The easy fix for this is to set your monitor's resolution to 1024x768 as that is the game's native resolution. This game, unlike Part 1 will actually launch from Steam's Library.

All in all - I HIGHLY recommend playing both of these titles. If you want to play the whole series - Play Journey to the Moon, Return to Mysterious Island 1 and then 2.

Enjoy!

Second part of Return to Mystery Island
When finally rescue arrives, your luck turns again, and you end up again on the Island.
This time you need to find a way to stop the total destruction of the Island, with the help of Jep (your Monkey). In this part you can switch from Minna and Jep depending on the task at hand.
Again, like the first part I had to use a walkthrough more then once to find out what to do next, or to find items needed to progress.
I love puzzle games, but this survival game is hard to complete, and not intuitive at all. Plus some puzzle are nearly impossible to complete and some are just a game of chance.
Despite all this, I still recommend it, if you want to rack your brains and are not scared of using walkthroughs and if it is on rebate.

A satisfying finish. Yes, this is a sequel and you really need to start with the first one, as this continues where it left off. It is also a bit harder than the first one, and you may need to resort to a guide occasionally. The story is good, better than the first one, and it is longer as well. Overall, the two games create one satisfying point and click experience that is well worth your time.

This was probably one of the best adventure games I've ever played. I loved the story and the majority of things about that game. I would totally recommend it for sensitive people who love exploring, puzzles and the wild. The only thing that seemed quite unrealistic was the modern technologies appearance from 1860, but that's debatable and it doesn't take a great part in the game. I would rate it 9/10.

If you like the first one, you'll probably love this one.
The puzzles are rather open ended, there is an interesting story, and the atmosphere is splendid.
In my opinion the difficulty of the puzzles is perfect. Challenging, but not impossible. And you'll come up with some pretty creative solutions when you play.
Compared to the first game, this one seems much bigger. I would say 2-3 times as big. It took me 10 hours to complete, and I was neither fast nor slow I think. There are many new mechanics, so it is definitely not just the first game all over. It continues where the first game left and adds a bunch of new stuff that make a lot of sense.
Definitely recommend to any fan of this genre.

The first game is WONDERFUL. Refreshing, great puzzles (although you might need a walkthrough for all the combinations), great cutscenes and graphics and a great ending, maybe a fitting ending to the game and not to leave room for a sequel.
The second one, this one, is like the first - except someone decided to take the first and sh** all over it. First of all, the voice acting. This woman is ideal as Kate Walker from the Syberia series, but in this one, it's like a hotline for doctors; "now I need my bandage" she says, in an all seductive voice. There is also the WORST kind of puzzle: eating. As a castaway, you CANNOT be expecting a full course. So, when you offer the characters a raw egg TWICE, they will say "No, not this, I need something else for a change." You ARE ON A F****** ISLAND, YOU STUPID B****. Let me send a buffet, hold on. And those "energy bars". Fill them up, but don't give them TWO raw eggs no no no...
Also, I wish there was an option where you WOULD NOT have to see the characters blink and watch you move, eat, talk to your cellphone and other activities... Creepy.
Furthermore, the ending SUCKS. There are two ways to end the game and the one sucks so much I'm not even going to write it.
On the positive side, there are many new locations and a lot to explore.
So, if you are looking for a game to smash your nerves to pieces and make you hate adventure gaming, it's here.
Thank you Microids. You officialy SUCK.

The second game of this (this one) is fantastic and the story that fallows it is riviting and enjoyable. It fallows the point and click adventure play style, and the puzzles are more difficult then the last game. I highly recomend this game to evrey one!

This game had such great potential. Many of the puzzles at the beginning of the game were quite good. I also personally liked how you switch between Mina and Jep. The story started out interesting enough, but then flatlined at the end. I recommend this game overall out of love of the series. Not as good as the first game, but it is worth a try.

This is a very engaging puzzle game in a cool setting--and there's some room to play around in the environment without always following the plotline.

Saethum

The first game was nice, but this one left me somewhat disappointed. There were some nice puzzles, but a large portion of the game was doing the same thing over and over or trying to figure out where some random stuff happened, so that you can advance, which was very annoying.

In my opinion the addition of minigames is super lame and I feel the only reason those were added is so that they could be played on the iPhone...

In general this is a mediocre game and you won't miss much if you don't play it.

I am a fan of the first Return to Mysterious Island and was hoping for another great classic adventure game. Unfortunately, despite some good moments, the sequel is a disappointment for me. It still looks good and plays in the same way, but the puzzles are often annoying, and playing as Jep, the little monkey, while cute and novel at first, quickly becomes tiresome. There are some good adventure moments in there, but they are obscured with too many frustrating and illogical puzzles to truly recommend.

Hyperion: Titan of Light

GREAT game, so much fun, challenging, lots of different ways to play/ get through etc. And the first game is great too. Since this game is a continuation of the first game, buy the bundle of the 2 games and play the first one.... first. :)

One of our old-school classic puzzle and adventure games. Very well done for the era. You should play the first game in the series first, though this will stand on it's own. Based on Jules Verne, "The Mysterious Island" this game has great imagination and should be fun for any casual adventurer. No super-math puzzles!

What can I say, I don't like it. It far from the normal HO game. I had more fun uninstalling then I had playing. The up side, at least it worked, the first MI never got past the Microids screen before it crashed. Real bummer of a game.

TLDR: Disorienting and boring game about being lost on an island. Uses myst-like navigation through stillshots. Unpleasant and dated.

Loved the game. Playtime wayyyyyyyy over what I actually played (benefits of turning monitor off, not the computer) but played to full completion. An excellent puzzle game with very similar vibes to myst, definitely recommend checking out the first game though. Some puzzles can prove a little challenging, but the overall inventory crafting system and puzzles in general are super satisfying to figure out. The story of the game is definitely a highlight.

The game runs at 4-8 FPS on Windows 10, with seemingly no fix anywhere. The original Return to Mysterious Island runs smoothly after a few tweaks, RtMI2 unfortunately appears to be doomed.

oh my dear childhood was shaped by return to the mysterious island and journey to the moon. these two products showed me who i may want to be. i wrote down their languages and codes and memorized it. cause me, a sweet summer child, believed one day i may need to use them in order to communicate with aliens.
i never used alien signs or got lost in an island but jeez i learned Chinese, Japanese, English and Arabic.
it was because the tools that were used in these products. Michell ardan was my life for a while before i get interested into girls and romance. but when i look at it, my love for M ardan remains.

A good sequel to the original, but a bit more difficult in its puzzle solving. If you don't actually know the science and chemistry, you probably won't be able to finish the game. I had to look up a guide when I got stuck, so it isn't quite as solvable as the first one, but the story is worth playing. I like the addition of playing as Jep to solve some puzzles, it was a fun dynamic. All in all, I still recommend it even though it is more difficult. Makes me wish there was more!

I really need to get my girl Mina off this island, shes been through so much. All I keep thinking about is that phone call from her mom and sister from the first game. This is one of the first adventure games I ever played with my mom and It is truly amazing. The puzzles are just complicated enough where you actually have to think through them, but not so much that they are impossible. Absolutely genius twist on the Nautilus from the Jules Verne novels

I enjoyed the first game of this series, but this one is just a bit too unforgiving.

So many chemical cocktails you MUST get just right.
So many slight movements (like the swamp) that you have to get JUST right. Oy!

I really like many of the puzzles, but the intensity is just too much to have fun.

And even when falling back on MULTIPLE walkthroughs, videos, hints, I found that you can find yourself in an impossible situation, where you have used the 2 and only 2 objects to get you past a foe, and so you are stuck forever.

Adventure games should not have that kind of dead end...especially not giving the player any clue that they will NEVER progress further, unless they go WAY back and try again.

I spent an entire day trying to get past the Monkeys, only to discover, I would NEVER have the materials to do so. EVER. They had been used up earlier in the game.

I paid a dollar for this game so I don't feel robbed. This game, while compared to Myst, is no Myst. The graphics lack the immersive experience of Myst and are cartoony. Not a problem if the game story was engaging, but it's really not. Maybe better for young kids and might even assist in reading practice. I like usually Desponia and Myst style games. Mostly because they are clever or funny. I played it long enough that I did not feel this game was either of those things. If you like point and click puzzles, I recommend Desponia or Edna and Harvey.

I highly recommend the first game as the story line will make more sense but they do have a recap. From what I've played of this i love it, maybe even more than the first one, it has mini games unlike the first one and you get to play as Minas side companion Jep making it, in my opinion, far more enjoyable and exciting to play. Would recommend for people who love adventure and puzzle games or anyone who just wants to play something fun :D

Pros: You get to play as the monkey, which adds a few more interesting puzzles

Cons: The story is less compelling and the puzzles are even more obtuse than the first game. Also, it's possible to still make several hours of progress AFTER unknowingly putting the game in an unwinnable state. It's actually pretty easy to softlock - I found quite a few people complaining about it when I went looking for solutions.

UPDATE: I hex-edited my save so that I could get past the softlock. The endings weren't worth it.

You can easily get soft-locked in this game, so make regular saves and in multiple files.
Other than that, it is a nice follow up to the first game.

The first game is fun but this is a truly awful experience.

The first big problem is that there are huge frame rate issues; the game is ancient and my card isn't, but I'm lucky to get 10fps in RtMI2.

The second big problem is the gameplay itself. Some of it is fine, much of it is terrible. This is labeled as a puzzle game, but most of the gameplay is in fact not puzzle-based, its mostly tedious minigames which more often than not require split second reaction clicking. The developers seem to have been obsessed with shoving as many truly awful minigames as they could into this thing.

Example 1: Whereas in the first game you can make a whole collection of pottery with a few clicks, and use the whole collection as a single inventory item to collect things which require containers, this game makes you play a minigame just to craft each individual clay container; and then it makes you micromanage those individual containers in your inventory.

Example 2: Despite being full of terrible minigames, this is still the type of game where every item in your inventory could be vital to advancing to the next stage of the game, and yet there are a couple of instances where you get surprised by a monkey stealing items from your inventory, and have to play a minigame (requiring split second reaction clicking, of course) to keep those items it's trying to steal; the items it tries to steal are random, so you could potentially lose items that would brick your playthrough if you don't have them.

jumping_jabberwocks
jumping_jabberwocks

The game is as good as the first, with some cool new features, such as playing as the monkey, new recipes, new tools and activities.
My only real quibble is that nobody involved in making the game seems to know that bread dough, cake batter, and pie crust are separate substances. Peculiar. Anyway, it's a good game. I have recently learned that the term for castaway stories as a genre is "robinsonade," after Robinson Crusoe, who in turn was based on Alexander Selkirk, a real person. Might even find my way to reading the Jules Verne book these games are based on.

memi
memi

Lovely point&click adventure game with a good story line, beautiful artwork and good voice acting. Quest/puzzles are mostly relying on your common sense and observation skills so they're no problem. I really enjoyed the RtMI duology.
