This game is a really good sandbox game. While the graphics are simple, everything else is not. Things that can happen are survive harsh winters, deal with insectoids burrowing into your base, start a cult, have a meteor fall on your people getting married, harvest dogs for meat. There's so much that can happen out on the rim.
Ridiculously addictive if you're into simulation type games. There's enough customization to keep yourself challenged. Has anyone survived a year of the "Naked Brutality" scenario in the tundra on "Losing is Fun" mode?
Been playing the game since beta .6 its a great game. I still go back to the game even after having over 2000 hours played
This game is amazing! And hard, don't worry losing
I'm only 71 hours in and can i say WHAT A GAME. This is the best fun i have had in a long time i was going to wait for the one day it went on sale but a friend of mine convinced me that there is no use waiting and just to get it. I have sent him a thank you msg to him every day this week.
I will say this though the game is better with a few QOL mods that help with interfaces, it is daunting to get into but once you get a feel for it it is just amazing.
this game is too fucking addicting help
i have 69 human leather in my same stockpile as the dead bodies and the nutrient paste
This game creates numerous wild stories and experiences with each colony you create, with different biomes and factions creating new interesting challenges for each playthrough. Uniquely generated colonists (and their religions if you have the DLC) make each colonist you get really feel like their own person, and adds that extra bit of weight to their relationships, injuries, and possibly even death. It's a relatively easy game to play, but it feels like theres still always new experiences and challenges that keep me engaged regardless.
Theres also so much modding potential that can really tune the game to your liking and flesh out the more bland aspects of it, with a foundation thats quite easy to understand for those interested in creating their own mods. Feels like Skyrim in the sense that the base game is solid, but mods really bring it to its full potential.
All that said, the game does have some issues with colonist's priorities and managing larger colonies can sometimes be a bit of a hastle. Plus the rather slow combat system makes close-quarters fights rather frustrating at times. Aside from that though I dont have any major complaints, and the existing ones just bother the perfectionist in me. Still a great game regardless
i get control over total idiots 10/10
A mad bunny murdered my colonist
I now have a phobia of rabbits
good game. addicting
mods are good
This game is good, just, as a baseline. It's an interesting game as is, and each of the dlcs is like an old school expansion: packed with new stuff. If you could only get this game at it's regular full price, I wouldn't feel cheated (but it does go on sale with some regularity, so that's another point in it's favor). Now, what happens you take a game that's pretty solid on it's own and add a rabid modding community? That's when you get a real gem of a game, and this game takes to modding quite well (as compared to some other games that I've got similar or more hours in that really, really don't take to modding very well).
I'm sure the other reviews give a better idea of the content of the game, of what playing the game is like, and so on. So I'll leave it to them to give you a clear understanding of what you're getting into with this game, and if that fails, there's plenty of videos on Youtube about the game these days.
“What must it be, then, to bear the manifold tortures of hell forever? Forever! For all eternity! Not for a year or an age but forever. Try to imagine the awful meaning of this. You have often seen the sand on the seashore. How fine are its tiny grains! And how many of those tiny grains go to make up the small handful which a child grasps in its play. Now imagine a mountain of that sand, a million miles high, reaching from the earth to the farthest heavens, and a million miles broad, extending to remotest space, and a million miles in thickness, and imagine such an enormous mass of countless particles of sand multiplied as often as there are leaves in the forest, drops of water in the mighty ocean, feathers on birds, scales on fish, hairs on animals, atoms in the vast expanse of air. And imagine that at the end of every million years a little bird came to that mountain and carried away in its beak a tiny grain of that sand. How many millions upon millions of centuries would pass before that bird had carried away even a square foot of that mountain, how many eons upon eons of ages before it had carried away all. Yet at the end of that immense stretch time not even one instant of eternity could be said to have ended. At the end of all those billions and trillions of years eternity would have scarcely begun. And if that mountain rose again after it had been carried all away again grain by grain, and if it so rose and sank as many times as there are stars in the sky, atoms in the air, drops of water in the sea, leaves on the trees, feathers upon birds, scales upon fish, hairs upon animals — at the end of all those innumerable risings and sinkings of that immeasurably vast mountain not even one single instant of eternity could be said to have ended; even then, at the end of such a period, after that eon of time, the mere thought of which makes our very brain reel dizzily, eternity would have scarcely begun.”
Amazing game. A good mix of resource manage meant and base building/colony sim.
No matter how many times you play it your bound to have a fun time
good game love the idea and hard easy to replay
It's very fun. Once you get bored of the base game, you can mod it for crazy combos.
We wanted to have peace with the mountain insects. Divided by the Great Wall Cainbo, I thought we had achieved true harmony and established our territories. We were so wrong. My wife, my friends and even the prisoners... Why didn't we deal with the insects when they first appeared? Why did we think we could have peace??
... No. We thought we were too weak. I thought we were too weak. Now I, and my dead friends pet Muffalo "Bill", will die in this freezer with the grinding sounds of the insect horde grow more loudly around the walls... As the horde scratches and gnaws their way into my and Bill's final resting place... I am filled with regret. Do not make my mistake fellow survivors.
Game is okay. I've almost beaten it once.
How to make a game infinitely replayable without bloating it with meaningless content.
just found out i have been playing for over 32 hours that sums it up lol
Rimworld - Probably one of the best games i've played so far. It is quite literally everything you want it to be. It's a stroke of genius, and the mods.. oh my god, they are just making you more addicted to this already beautiful and well made game. I can absolutely recommend Rimworld to anyone that loves this type of Genre, and even if you don't, you should still try it. I. Love. it.
There are only few things to dislike about this game
* serious sleep deprivation :-)
* thin line between the game being easy or incredibly difficult (part of learning curve is knowing what to expect which differs between storytellers, difficulty settings and climate)
* a bit boring midgame (after surviving two winters)
Otherwise it's excellent for people who like to spend 30 hours just to get familiar with complex game mechanics and to challenge themselves. Sometimes everything feels fine, then your best colonist is shot into head by accident and stays immobile on hospital bed ... then heater next to his bed explodes and he dies in flames, while you are trying to realize how to get mechanoid serum which is super rare, cause alternative way is euthanasia.
I lost my progress to a pawn that was 15 years old and all this mf had was a revolver
No, I do not recommend it... if you want to have a life, otherwise YEAH ITS GREAT!
I tried it a a few years ago, put 20 hours into it and ended up setting it down because I was confused. However, I had some free time recently and ended up putting about 60 hours into it in the last three weeks. Take it slow in the beginning and give yourself some time to figure out the mechanics. The game is incredible.
Yeah it's an alright game I suppose.
When someone randomly kills your dog, so you start a Kidney harvesting career and for ever imprison them to farm kidneys for killing your dog.... This game is full of nothing but enjoyment.
Best gaem ever.
Mods are life, mods are death, mods are everything.
10/10 Will mod the shit out of this gaem again.
I just like it a lot iv'e played over 120 hours
This game is the most addicting game i have ever played. I have played this game for 15 hours straight best game ever :)
Very fun single player game! Love the randomness and the chaos in it, and the ability to customize the game to your mood (i.e. peaceful colony builder vs violent raiding village). Plus the music is relaxing (:
Until Dwarf Fortress comes out, this is probably the best, most user-friendly, colony SIM out there.
I made one of my colonist beat the living crap out of a trader that was fighting one of my other colonist.
That trader died.
After finding why his mood was terrible, I realized that I made that colonist kill his own brother.
He was never the same again.
He later tried to hit on a hot chick colonist and got rebuffed 3 times.
Whole colony is on blink of death moments later [rat self-tamed]
This game is very good, but I cannot say it is for everyone. This is a game for people who thought a full game of civ 5 didn't take up enough of their time. This is a game for people who played kenshi and thought "Hmm, I really like this but I'm upset I can't sell the organs of the people i knock out.". And with mods, this turns into an even bigger time sink. Mech suits, booba, small cat people who do your work for you, more bugs, genetic abominations to god you can make and command, new guns, new species of sentient life, even stronger robots, more story tellers, and a stupid amount more. The DLCs are over priced, but still fun, and some mods need them to function. Over all? Very good game, watch someone play it, like the grim kleeper, before you buy.
Hours upon hours of replay-ability and with huge selection of mods even more
very good and cool. use mods if you don't hate yourself.
If you like a challenging community builder with guts, this is the game for you :)
WHY ARE YOU EVEN STARVEING
*turns on buther humanlike
THERE YOU FUCKING GO THATS WHAT YOU GET FOR COMPLAINING
The first time I played Rimworld, I stayed up playing for an entire weekend, completely hooked. The little details really make this something special. It takes a bit of trial and error to figure out the mechanics initially, but you'll be rewarded with an experience that's unique to you. It's crazy how attached you can get to your colonists if you invest in reading about their quirks and crafting your own story. There will be moments of joy and heartbreak, and they belong to you.
Addicting and excellent, however they really need a true coop mode - the game would be perfect for the wife and I. *yes, I know about the multiplayer mod, not the same thing as having separate squads and banks*
48 hours on this game in 2 weeks !. This game is good.
An often relaxing game, it is very easy to let the time pass in Rimworld. That said, the challenges randomly interspersed into the game can also cause huge amounts of stress, which is fun its own right. I have spent many nights getting lost in the time spent on increasing different factors of my colony. I have several files as well, and each of them have played out vastly different to the others. Replay value is great, game is super immersive. Definitely recommend.
I have never got to the endgame, I cant give an opinion
One of the best games ever. Infinite replay value, huge modding community... just look up some letsplays. Worth twice what I've paid for it.
The colonists are the life blood of the game. The character's and their accomplishments and failures will make this game a winner for you. It is a story game disguised as a colony builder.
Mod the hell out of it to keep it interesting.
i started seeing problems the same way i look at rimworld:
with stats. and a LOT of mods.
11/10 one of the best games ever made.
i hate it, dont play it.
you think you figured it out. You haven't. You'll die, and now you've learned something new and it's time to start again and prevent the thing that ended your colony.
You think you figured it out, but you haven't
This is a pure experience of suffering/joy/agony/bliss/rage/calm/profanity/divinity: 10/10.
This game is pretty good at generating stories.
Endless adventure, challenge and drama. Highly recommend.
There should be govorment mandated time cap for this game.
During a boring weekend I decided to launch it again. Played it for two whole days, after it was over I had trouble remembering what I was doing in life before that.
Also war crimes are incentivized by developers. 10/10 one of the best games ever.
Probably my favourite game of all time. Can't recommend it more.
My only complaint with this game is the horrible performance you get later in the game. Dev reallllly needs to make this game multithreaded and potentially optimize pathfinding for pawns a bit. I have a fairly beefy rig and once my colony has 40+ people fps does down to 15-25ish, sometimes less
Everything about this game besides that is absolutely phenomenal. There is so many good mods available that if you can imagine what you would like, you can probably find a mod for it. Im playing with a Rimworld of Magic to add magic and might classes to pawns, combined with the Forgotten Realms races mod I essentially turned my rimworld game into Spelljammer, and I love it
It's rimworld... what else you need to know.
i tried to like it... i want to like it... but the combat consists of watching your colonist miss 50 shots from their high powered machine gun, while standing 2 feet from their target. If defending my base consists of just rolling dice then its pointless to spend time building that base
One of the greatest sandbox storyteller games of all time - You can more than get your money worth with the base game and then add infinite repeatability with mods.
big gun go pew pew no big gun = dead
yea its cool man i like this one yeah you did a good job
You work a 9 to 5; I manage an organ harvesting gulag colony on Rimworld. We are not the same.
Fun by its self. Mods make it better.
For weirdos who like watch their best laid plans crash and burn.
Explosions, war crimes, xcom soldier level incompetence, and bs luck. Everything you could possibly want. Also a ton of mods to increase said war crimes.
only buy if you plan on not doing anything else for the next 7-10 business days.
Absolute must-have game. I can't imagine this not making into anyone's top ten list.
Endless fun, you'll never get mad nor will you ever want to delete the game, you perhaps might even never get bored since it is so fun. But really, who would ever get mad at this super easy and entirely skill and NOT luck based experience with super easy to pick totally premade characters!
awsome game best ive played in while
You can play mad doc mcorgan harvester
this game is scarily addicting, i had to stop playing for months because it was eating so much of my time
buy it
Thought i was doing pretty good until I was hit with Malaria, toxic fallout, crashed physic drone ship, and a pack of man-hunting coyotes all in 2 days
I've been playing this game for a long time. The best part about it is the replayability, second best part is the cruelty potential (war crimes).
This is my single desert island game - if for some reason I could only have one game for the rest of my life, Rimworld would be it. There's just so much here, and the true beauty of it is that you can play it however you want. Everything from a laid back city builder with little/no combat to a super hardcore survival game in a hostile environment, and everything in between. I've run colonies of imperial warlords, high-tech traders, farmers, tribal nomads, Medieval raiders, and even did a full restaurant/hotel with the help of a few mods. It's about as limitless as it gets, and even after a couple hundred hours I feel like I'm just scratching the surface - each playthrough I'm still finding something completely new and different to do.
Rimworld is an awesome and classic colony sim! LOVE IT!
You can murder people, harvest organs and do drugs, what's not to like ?
