Note - i will be editing this review once i complete all content, as of right now i still have area 7 to complete on hard mode to unlock the EX mission chains.

Id say this is a competent co-op game with a decent amount of gundam lore thrown in. SO LONG AS YOU USE A CONTROLER. the mouse and keyboard controls suck so treat it as a souls game and use a controller. it sucks and it needs to be fixed but the game is still a very enjoyable mindless co-op game. Note i said co-op game, as a single player game this thing is meh at best, it only really shines when you have freinds along for the ride. the dificulty spikes up a bit, the AI's get a bit more competant, and its a hell of alot of fun.

Story - nonsense to get you from one area to the next. its there, and its not horrible per say, but ive seen better. for the most part i ignored it till around chapter 7 when some things got slightly intresting. Chapter 8 is the best part of the game, but i cant really say why without spoiling things and its like the only part i truly dont want to spoil. just trust in that the payoff for that chapter is great, so long as you put in the time to find it later.

normal mode of the game is not where the game shines, its a long tutorial preparing you for hard mode and 'post game' chaos missions. these things are where the difficulty really spikes up and they throw things that truly test ya. if you havent gotten good at either dodging or evading or reversals yet, now is the time to do so, or these missions can be hell.

as for my rating? IF you have 1-2 freinds to play this with, and enjoy beat-em-ups get it, its worth the price. if your a solo player through and through, wait for a sale. I think all these mixed review status is from people playing the game without freinds. its a co-op game, litterally all the marketing showed you playing with friends, thats what they focused on and they did a heck of a good time at it, WHY would you think its solo experince would be anywhere near as good as the co-op experience?

The game is fun, except for the fact that companion AI are literally useless once you get to chapter 3 or later.

If you have friends willing to buy the game? absolutely worth it (on sale)

But if it's not on sale, or you have noone to play with, I would not recommend.

I've had to drop this game 3 times in the two months it's been out because of how frustrating it is to get a boss within one fifth of it's HP, only to absolutely lose because YOU do all the damage, and the Companion AI do so little damage, except when they use their specials.

Story is fun and it's a good game that knows the franchise. Characters aren't bad either.

Other reviews probably have more info than me, but I'm just mad that I have had to do the same mission 6 times over because I'm the only one the Boss will focus. Even over leveled on missions it's frustrating.

And it's for this reason I'm not recommending it (for 60USD)

While I love the shit out of this game I also really have the same gripes most of the other people have as well

Mobile Armor's are absolute BULL and need to take hits somewhere because I fought through farming Directory 4 angrily then basically just blitzed 5/6

The AI companions never feel right because I'll be trying to do a big combo and they just get aggressive and interrupt but if I'm being smashed by anything where there is NO OTHER ENEMIES they just sit there and watch with some popcorn

If those two things were changed I could maybe recommend it but like Dragonball Xenoverse this game requires 2 friends with the computer and time to play the game to be 100% fun because otherwise it's a grind I do not recommend at all

Small but Deadly!
This game starts out like most multiverse crossup. you get pulled into a gundam universe and time has been distorted. its common but works for making a game like this. The game has great combat. you got light attacks, specials air combos and more. To unlock more mobile suits you gotta grind the stages and get blueprints, once collected you get the mobile suit to play. There is plenty of suits to play and all unique. you level up the suits with capital. Capital is the currency to lvl up suits and it shows. getting capital is the meat of this game. grind level for capital and get blueprints along the way. It cost millions to fully lvl up 1 mobile suit, thats alot!!!
Overall id recommend to ppl that like grindy gameplay. its really fun combat makes sinking the hours to grind much better.

Steam asked me to revise this review so here comes:

It feels fun at first, then it gets an endless grind doing the same missions over and over again to get those upgrades to beat the next nigh-invulnerable boss.

Forget this game if you have a day job, or any other life for that matter.

This is the Gundam equivalent of doing an eight ball of coke for about twenty hours straight. Just use cheat engine and max out your credits and you'll be golden

TLDR: good but flawed grindy game wait for sale.
Long story: i enjoy it. its like dragon ball xenoverse but for gundam. it's not a flawless game but for gundam fans its worth it, would wait for a sale though. its super grindy for blueprints to unlock suits and the money to level up suits. i haven't played much into the multiplayer side of things but it feels like it would be better with friends,

Best Gundam game currently available on Steam IMO. Little bit repetitive and grindy at times, but the combat carries the game and is a ton of fun.

Lot's of mobile suits to pick from and most are viable when fully leveled. Game definitely shines brightest in co-op.

(Also works great on Steam Deck!)

I hate this game, but it is redeemable with too many small fixes I'll try to list at the end. The gameplay is fun, stat difference is noticeable, and MOST importantly class systems are done away with unlike GBO2 (Gundam Battle Op).

Gameplay wise it feels good to move around it feels fluid, doesn't look awkward for the Mobile Suits (MS) but more importantly everything isn't floaty (or the same) like G Gen Crossrays great job Bandai plus 1 point. Movement and animation wise just look it up, if there are issues they're hard for a average Normal to notice but otherwise it's there and doesn't look like Battlefield 2042 Beta.

Fighting wise FA Gundam [TB] will always feel faster than Phoenix but likewise has a noticeable damage difference in melee when compared to Exia R2, and a GM will (lore accurately) always end up paling in comparison with FA[TB] at range and Exia R2 in melee but if specialised with certain parts can still keep up and do Gundam level damage Mass Production (MP) models relevant. That's the issue though PARTS. After you beat the game the only thing to do is obtain all playable MS and grind for parts no Rouge-like mode like Vermintide or any other game just Grind for Grind no real reason to return.

More importantly combat works as so; everyone has a minimum of 1 ranged weapon, 2 melee swings (which uses your boost gauge) paired with a upper cut for air combos, lung attack that does a lotta damage has a trade off of 1 swing, AOE swing, 2 sub weapons that range from ranged attacks to grabbing melees and a Ult. And that's it you can chain this stuff and make your own combos to do a lotta damage but to top this off you have something called a chain breaker which ALSO resets your boost gauge and when used can extend your combos or keep an enemy Ace in their broken state much longer.

Melee is also a very big component of the game though I'll admit it's the way I played and guess what? You can DS parry the disgusting gank bosses and minions which ALSO resets your boost gauge and puts bosses into a Break stance good side note for melee connoisseurs. Final note you do in fact do extra damage from rear attacks.

Speaking of MP units this game DOES have them BUT you can't select ALL them as AI partners nor can you obtain them DESPITE seeing a Leo armed with a machine gun and sword suddenly pull out a Dober gun and blow you away as hard as Kaiba. This issue is only relevant if you love the GMs and Zaku lines but goddam just make them a skin or shadow fighter for a existing unit like Nintendo did for Smash.

That's another thing Bandai missed out on they coded in Bernie Wiseman who uses a unplayable Zaku II but you cannot obtain it nor can you use him as a partner DESPITE him being a central character to his series and when I say central he is a PROTAGONIST DUDE WTF! Good bye War in the Pocket you never mattered I guess. This issue is acceptable when it's someone like Sanders from 08th MS because they never really got much development but just cutting out whole units is simply (I wanna say UNAcceptable) RETARTed. You did it for GBO2! I can play Striker Custom, GM Ground and Ground Combat type and even freaking Delta Gundam who never got a Anime cameo. Hell they even have Impulse Gundam, ReZel, Graze (Iok) but guess what you can't play them, they don't matter I guess.

To wrap it up, feels like Bandai was Prototyping what would work for gameplay and WHO would sell which is why there isn't a Gacha like GBO2.

Stat wise, it's as easy as Destiny's level system just make the number go higher and you do more damage when you shoot or cut someone or you could try to be a balanced individual who has a lot of health. Now the limitations on stat changing parts is limited by level tier kinda like how Monster Hunter World's upgrade and gem system works except here level 1-15 is tier 1, tier 2 15-30 etc. Point is tier 1 units can only equip 1 part to increase 1 stat and tier 2 units 2 parts.

Also parts they are randomly generated and have side effects that can range from being negative to positive. This means I can make the GM Sniper II a viable Melee unit despite him having only ranged weapons as his sub/skill weapons which I will admit is funny to see but in practice is pretty bad to use since he only has 2 melee swings, Wing Zero does fit this role better though which is just a testament to the power difference between a 'common' unit and Gundam unit.

Class Systems are too common in Japanese games and the fact they didn't put in a damage bonus system for this is surprising, it exist merely to classify that this unit is good at shooting and you SHOULD make his gun stat higher but I won't. Why? Because F you. Instead of bonus damage you have stagger resistance, most Sharpshooters will always need at least 2 swings to stun a grunt unit while a Infighter and All-round needs just one and that's it, that is the class system. Plus 1 Bandai

Issues:
- Money, you don't get enough BUT get F91 or Trans Am user as a partner and spam special and go to town
- Money is used to upgrade units but that's its only use
- Hard mode unlocks after you beat the campaign
- The remaining 38 or so units are also locked behind Hard mode in the extra 'Chaos' Missions which a have another boss who drops character parts
- Units are unlocked near the endgame, recommend getting a cheat engine just for cash or (drop rates)
- Small selection of MS

That's all I can think of look around for more issues. But Story.

It's not interesting, the best comparison is Dragonball Xenoverse but bad. Whereas Xenoverse leaned into you being a extradimensional corrections officer who had interactions with the world, in this game you are a PNG who spouts out 1 of 3 responses which don't matter. It'd honestly be better if you were just a soldier/anti-virus program and not a warrant officer from the UC timeline whose purpose is just to take orders and fight because Juno says so.

Yeah feels like this game was a Prototype to see if the West would be willing to buy a Gundam game as seen somewhere above or below.

Great game with a good story and does a really great job incorporating all of the different Gundam series. Definitely make sure you play with a controller as mouse targeting is wonky. I had over 70 hours in and had only finished the main story. The DLC is great too. Don't sleep on this if you're a Gundam fan. Only game I've completely beaten in ages.

If you love G-Universe this is the game to play all the greatest Gundams. Select from 3 class types Infighter, Sharpshooter, and All-Arounder then go at it solo or with up to three in your party. We quite enjoyed it.

thousandblacksuns

Its overall a decent game with decent combat mechanics. Co-op is fun and seems to be easy enough to find rooms, at least in my region.

One of the main issues, as mentioned by many others, is the MA combat: In particular, the jump attacks of MA's have wonky hitbox that can mess up lock on if you are in close range. Some MA's also like to spam the jump attack, which in my opinion, should not be an attack but a movement option only. Can be partially solved by using sharpshooters but takes away the fun if you like playing infighters.

Another issue is the price. I recommend to wait for sale if you are on the fence for this game.

Game is designed to be played multiplayer, but in doing so lose much of the story line. Game is grindy which is mitigated somewhat by multiplayer. However, Multiplayer has several key issues:

1. No chat Box. You can say predetermined phrases but it makes communication next to impossible.
2. No Joining in progress. Missions started with 2/3 players will remain 2/3 players as no one can join the mission once started.
3. Finding a group. If you have friends that are actively playing with you, awesome! If not, 90% of lobbies you join will kick you based on your level rather than help you level.

Singleplayer:

1. no exiting cutscenes and story lines or going back in case you miss clicked, only skipping forward,
2. A lot of plot talk during combat that you will completely miss due to combat.
3. Pace of difficulty will very quickly exceed your ability to level up your mobile suits.

General Gameplay:
1. lacks any in mission buffs. Boxes only drop parts, money, and maybe health, but nothing to boost a specific skill, or stat temporarily.
2. Unless you know what you are facing on each mission your gundam may become next to useless.
3. Lock-on... Lock-on.... Lock-on.... THE SAME GODDAMN DUMBASS SYSTEM USED ACROSS GUNDAM GAMES WHERE THE LOCK-ON DOES NOT ACTUALLY LOCK ON TO TARGET AND WILL SWITCH ACCORDING TO ATTACK OR DISTANCE. THIS MAKES IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FOCUS ON A TARGET AS IT WILL SWITCH RAPIDLY AND COMPLETELY IGNORES WHAT THE TERM LOCK-ON ACTUALLY MEANS.
4. Customization is meh. You get parts based on class of the gundam, these have random stats. Stats on the gundam can be maxed out based on money. There is no changing of color schemes or switching of abilities to make the gundam playstyle more towards what you like.

ChronoStrafe
ChronoStrafe

A decent game, held back by odd decisions.

The story mode is decent, and serve the premise of the gameplay pretty well. The switch from regular Gundam models to the SD one is honestly top notch. The music choice and the series included are also great. They don't overly focus on a singular timeline, which is something I was worried about, as many Gundam games seem hell bent on focusing on the SEED/Unicorn Timelines. The choice of units that are actually in here, is also really nice, some good suits that I genuinely didn't expect to see as an inclusion (such as the GM Sniper II, The Reginlaze Julietta, etc). However, the game also falters pretty badly in these same areas.

While the gameplay is fun, it's grindy at times. And playing as a ranged unit is just hellish at times. Your AI companions are mostly worthless unless you get their friendship to max rating, at which point they become somewhat useful. Mobile Armor bosses are by and far the worst part of the game, fighting the Psycho Gundam, any of the Garbage Space MAs, and even Devil Gundam and the first fight with the Zeong are just ridiculously unfair. You're expected to hit them in their weak points for increased damage, which is almost exclusively their heads. However, that requires flying, which consumes boost and reduces your ability to fight for extended periods without using chain bursts. Flying also reduces your ability to avoid incoming attacks if you're fighting, because again, boost is required.

The choice of suits, while I do praise them for including some lesser seen mobile suits, is also baffling. They omitted basically anything from Wing aside from Wing Zero and Epyon. This wouldn't be a huge concern, but you fight Leos, Taurus and Virgos, and you interact with Wings timeline 4 times. Meaning each time you go there, the boss will be one of those two gundams. If they'd added say, Tallgeese or the Mercurius and Vayate, it'd be less repetitive to fight in this time line. Wing isn't the only timeline to suffer from this, as G Fighter also suffers from the same issue, as does CCA.

Progressing isn't nearly as difficult as some people make it sound, just play the game on Easy mode, get to mission 7-2b and grind it out once or twice with Alex Gundam, God/Master Gundam, any of the 00 Gundams, or the Lupus Rex, and you'll have more than enough to get a mobile suit up to level 50 (the cap before beating the game), that said, early game it IS a struggle if you want to play a specific suit and don't have it unlocked yet, and since most of the suits are unlocked through either playing a mission or clearing a chaos mission (an additional break in during a mission you've already completed), it makes getting a suit you want, and also leveling it up before the end game tedious at times.

Overall, with how much I've complained here, you might be wondering why I still recommended this game. Frankly, it IS a fun game, especially with friends. The core game play loop is fun and the moments they chose from Gundams 40+ years history really do feel great to play through... when they don't involve Mobile Armors. So yeah, I'd say get the game, preferably on sale, as 60 USD is a bit much for the content we're offered here. If the game DOES eventually get the support that Xenoverse 2 gets, I'd recommend it even more.

Despite the game had some issues on launch, the developers are fixing them one by one delicately based on the feedback players have been providing. Something I cared about most has already been added like 4K support for example. Honestly, this is pretty rare nowadays, I have seen enough arrogant devs who do nothing after the game’s release, leaving so many bugs and issues behind, pretending to be blind and deaf to users’ desperate requests. Recent’s LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Sega is a prime bad example for this. Though I didn’t leave a negative review for it, I swear never buy another LEGO game from TT ever, since they treated PC gamers like none-existence. Back to this game, the developers are doing hot fix for the game means they care about both their game and customers, showing respect to the community and love for their own creation.

Now, about the game itself.

If you’ve watched any anime of gundam, you will enjoy Battle Alliance I assure you. This game is a celebration show of Gundams. Devs put almost all most recognized Gundams from all Gundam anime in the history into the game, with the campaigns telling you how they’ve appeared. The selection is across all Gundam universe. The story of the game is a twist of all these important events with its own original ideas.
If you’re not familiar with the Gundam universe, don’t worry. Each mission also has a separate session with VNs to tell you the background story of each campaign you are in and what are you suppose to do. Everything in such detail, I can’t help to see lots of love and passion from the team of the maker whom delicate their lives to the game. I honestly think they need my support, not the blame for some small flaws which will be fixed anyways.

The game’s follows some mechanics that a mobile game usually do which means it is also good for players who is always on the move. The reason I said so because, apart from the story, it basically is a ‘Gundamon’ without hateful Gotta cha system which you frequently see in a mobile game. By completing levels, the enemy Mobile Suits(MS) you’ve defeated will drop some pieces of blueprint of plural of gundams(currently level specific, not random, don’t worry). Once you collected all blueprint of a gundam, you can develop it and add to your base. Then rise it up and go for a fight. There are so many Gundams in the game waiting for you to develop. Each one will need quite some funds to grow while you fighting campaigns to earn. Each level takes from 5-15 minutes to finish. So even if you are out, with a steam deck or switch, you can play a round or two when you have even a little time. Or enjoying it with a 4K screen at home, of course. The game’s more fun with up to 2 friends to play together on CO-OP mode, which I had lots of fun with my friend.

The replay value is also high, after beating the whole story once, the game unlocks Hard Mode which is basically a post game that new levels can be earned, new Gundams can be collected, new challenge levels with powerful foes. I’d say the price is worth because developers really want you to stay and spend lots of time on this game if you’re interested in doing so. And they’re making new DLCs on extras for extremely delicate players who have beaten everything and don’t know what else to do.
If you like anime, interesting in Gundam, like hack& slash games, this is a good entry for you to Gundam’s universe.

9/10 A must play for Gundam!

P.S Hello is the best Gundamon

One biggest thing why i didn't recommend this game. The camera control. Especially if you use mouse and keyboard.
You will flick 180 or more very often because the camera doesn't automatically follow your gundam movement toward the targets. You need to manually search the target position then move the camera to them.
Why there is no auto follow or auto lock camera toward target like Dynasty Warrior ? That feature was a blessing.

Then there was the grinding. You met a Gundam you want 10 times, guess what ? You only get 3 parts but to build it you need 4 parts so what do you have to do ? You got it, grind that mission again.

Honestly i played this game with trainer 100% drop rate so i can focus on the story without the need to grind the same mission again and again.

TLDR : Bad because camera stupid movement and stupid grind.

If you love SD Gundam as a whole, then playing this game is worth your while since it consists the core game play of RPG based action and the idea of collecting all Gundams that are yet to be unlocked. The thrill of the game is that it challanges the player to grind and basically develop skills, items, stats, and equipment that may vary on its effect or rarity. As a casual player/gamer this game will not disappoint, yet if you seek the competitive side of things, the game wont cover much on its multiplayer lore.

The story and content was well done yet if you are leaning towards the long span of the game, I'm afraid you'd wish there's more added story lines within the SD Gundam franchise. Furthermore on those whom loved watching various gundam anime series, the game is very straight forward in showing the sense of nostalgia along with its music themes that straight came from known series such as the cosmic era of seed, 00 series, UC, etc. It is indeed notable that the developers did their homework in having each series to coexist all in one, while reminiscing familiar classic Gundam franchises together at a deformed chibi sized gundam that most gunpla collectors or fans alike love and enjoy aesthetically.

The only disappointing part about the game is that It has lackluster features on multiplayer and missing things you may find known to specific gundam units that lack abilities seen on anime or other similar games you've played in the past. However, the presentation on the graphics design and combat mechanics are superb or should I dare to say very satisfying enough to cover a bit of its flaws.

Overall its a solid game that resembles past classic and modern Gundam series with a heartfelt care in developing the game and how it shows passion to show attention to details. Somehow at the end of playing SD battle Alliance, players would probably tend to question additional contents and additional features that may somewhat be seen in the future.

Fun little game, yes, you have to grind to make your mobile suit better and get good equipment for it, but this gives you a reason to try more of them- Quite a fun game to spend time on, plus it works flawlessly on the Steam Deck.

Spent quite a few hours on this game and hopefully the devs add more missions/suits, they've already confirmed 3 dlcs so far and the first one was quite fun.

The only negative aspect of this is the price, I would get it on sale if I were you.

Prince Vegeta

Super sweet beat 'em up! I love having more Gundam content available on Steam and I hope they continue!

It has a campaign mode with difficulties up to extreme starting with small simple stages getting larger as you go. There is multiplayer but not a lot of public games going so probably best to find a battle buddy to group with if co-op is your interest.

There's a whole lot of suits to collect and upgrade though you might find the game to be a bit of a struggle with some of the basic suits. The grind is a bit slow before reaching end-game content so you might want to stick to a suit or two until you unlock the stages that pay better.

Combat is simple but fun and the graphics are very nice. I'm having a good bit of fun with this one, and if you enjoy beat 'em up style games you might enjoy this too!

Facts
Facts

A very tricky thing to review. First the good stuff then the bad stuff.

Story:
As far as I can see the main story line explaining it's ties to each generation or each timeline of gundam is pretty detailed in the beginning. In typical gundam series fashion you spend about 15-20 minutes learning how you're a gundam time pilot and with some obscure english you learn how things function and how you get into each timeline and treat each encounter. From the start you do face off against familiar and more recent faces but nothing that you can't discern from what is called the "G" group which is your group that handles these "breaks" in time. I definitely like the gundam series but these storylines are all over the place. And I don't know if it has to do with the transition to english but even in fights the characters you interact with are constantly talking in the background and if you're not an native japanese speaker you just won't hear them as you fight. And its not like every now and then. There's so much dialogue that it cuts off if you start a fight sequence or move into a cutscene. So there's so much that you can't enjoy it, if you're into it. But it's all in japanese, so you miss it.

Mechanics:
Every gundam you get is fun to enjoy. Each has specific moves besides ranged and melee attacks but it's got a lot of lights, explosions and cinematics every time you use them. The You have to treat it like a grind fest. Like an absolute grind fest of many grind fests. Every mission is replayable for this reason as you need to finish each mission with the specific gundam and level it up individually. This works well to replay the game more and enjoy what you got but here's the thing. Got a new favorite gundam? Well you're gonna have to grind the previous missions to make it viable to fight in your current mission. It is fun that you get to see your new gundam do cool new moves but every single one? There's hundreds of filler non gundams as well. Most of the time you hand em off to AI partners but they don't rank them as far as I can see so it's just collecting virtual dust.

Controls:
The controls are simple. Light attack, heavy attack, ranged, special 1-3, guard and ultimate. All gundams and suits have different effects and colors so you're never gonna be handling the same weapons or the same skills unless it's something like the same enemy class they used as filler for gundam episodes. The biggest issue is that keyboard and mouse are just not enjoyable. A slight move from your mouse while locked onto an enemy just forces you to lock onto another enemy. The issue I had is sometimes it would lock on and sometimes it wouldn't. I would be facing an enemy and accidently move my mouse and suddenly my character turned 180 to lock onto an enemy 4 times farther than the first enemy. Or you would be fighting and the game thinks you wanna stop locking off and it just breaks the lock midfight so you stand there swinging or shooting at air. CONTROLLER IS REQUIRED. Just don't use keyboard and mouse with this game.

Missions: Finally when things are all set up and you get to move into the mission. The characters will remind you of the area you are in. You want to enjoy it because they set you in the scene and it does look and feel like the original series. You would think they would put more effort in the mission length and enjoyment but because the controls are limited and the characters are chibi, so is the environment. Every mission has few buildings and a few landmarks with the same design in the wilds. A few trees and some curves for hills. They might toss in a few rocks or some lighting but this is extremely low quality. So much so that my 6500XT is running this at 60 fps 1440p max settings. So the missions are short to around 5 minutes of missions each and just don't go farther than kill a few minions then kill the mission boss.

Conclusion:
If you enjoy the gundam series and just being nostalgic with the original japanese cast then go for it. But do not expect it to be anything more than that. The game is not for PC, it's for console. And I would say nintendo switch than like xbox or playstation because the environment is not up to par of what people should expect. It is extremely simple to the point where I would expect it to be for android or iphone. It feels like the dev just wanted to focus on the characters rather than the gameplay and unfortunately that is where many would cut this off from their game libraries.

Great intro to ppl who doesn't know gundam as much
Three types of play style - fighter, all rounder, range\
great fun if you have frds to play with
No Gundam vs Gundam sorta hatred - the compeition is there when its VS

Cons
Grindy - leveling, finding blueprints for units
Some units don't earn as much
The lock on system is crap when it comes to switching after defeating a unit
a bit steep... but most games are in terms of price

The game should have had some PvP option because when you have everything and are pretty much done with the game, there is nothing more to do than to wait for the next DLC to drop, complete all the difficulties on that said DLC, then rinse and repeat. Have no clue why they would not add a PvP mode to a Gundam game where it plays like SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online with a jank camera and lock-on system.

Is the $60 price tag justified? Not really, feels like it should have been a $29.99/39.99 game tops.

With that said, it's a fun little game, especially co-op with friends.

Be prepared for a grind, and M+KB is not recommended. Worth the time if you're a gundam fan and don't mind the cost.

Bring back Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 for Steam at this point
Wait for it to go on sale. Game is pretty alright with the variety of Mobile Suits, combat and abilities are easy to understand but not worth at a full $60.

TLDR: Fun game, many gundam, needs balancing, wait for sale.

When the game first released, I noticed that most of the bad reviews were from people who just kind of wanted a different game. So I ignored them and chose to give it a go and I had fun. It's a pretty decent hack n slash type game with a lot of gundams to collect. I'd say it's pretty good, the combat flows nicely although it's very repetitive. All the gundams work pretty much the same though so there isn't much variety when it comes to melee, I found that a lot of the little tricks I found to extend my combos turned out to be pretty universal. Not to say they're all exactly the same, some have attacks that are much harder to connect without really being any better. It's especially true when it comes to specials, all the melee ones are pretty worthless when it comes to bosses that don't freeze in place and let them hit you.

It's pretty obvious that this was going to be a grindy damage sponge type of game so I wouldn't really complain about that but I have a few gripes. There are massive difficulty spikes at various points in the game. Like unreasonable ones. Mobile Armor in particular is pretty horrible at the point where you reach it. All the missions surrounding it are pretty easy so it's really out-of-place.

And for a game that's entirely centered around the idea of collecting gundams, the developers seriously don't want you to actually use any of them. The upgrade system is centered around money and you just don't make enough to level any more than one or (maybe) two gundams throughout the whole story while keeping up with the recommended levels for missions. You really don't start making any notable amount of dosh until post-game when it's basically pointless because there really isn't much more to the game anyway. The devs clearly understand this is a problem since they keep awarding us with extra money with updates so I hope they have something in the works.

I don't know anyone else who was interested in the game so I had to try and join randoms to participate in the online mode but the only rooms I found were from people at max level already. So I never actually got to try it out.

All in all I do recommend this game despite its faults. I played the entire thing solo but I bet it's better with friends. I don't think it's worth the current price though. So maybe wait a while for them to work out the kinks and for it to go on sale.

I was meme'd into purchasing this game by a group of people who recommended it if you were getting into Gundam and enjoyed japanese style action RPGs.

However, this seems like a failed mobile game with playstation 2 graphics that had its assets turned into a PC title and the gacha system swapped for a resource progression system. I am almost certain this is the case, considering the extremely poor and simple graphics, and right side of screen layout of abilities that seems suited for tapping with a thumb.

This is not worth $60. This is some sort of gundam fan abuse cashgrab, and I fell for it like a moron.

Feels pretty bad coming from Gundam Evolution which is also a gundam fan abuse cashgrab, but at least in that game I didn't need to pay for anything to play most of it.

Hack and slash at his finest, many different u units with different abilities, control allows infinity combo variations , easy to use instinctively, the anime side is awesome all the action and the artworks are great , the graphic engine works just fine on every PC looking beautiful.

If you are a gundam fan you should consider get it but only on sale.

Game play can get frustrated with enemy always disruption you in your combo especially with Boss battle.

Inventory management should have auto selling since you get more and more item but have limited slot(1000) and to have to scroll through all of them to pick which one to sell is just take more time than mission time.

As a fan of gundam series I want to collect all of the model in the game and be able to play with it which currently you can't do that but I hope it will change in the future with the following DLC (Paid/Free...I wish it will be free :)).

Mcgillis Fareed
Mcgillis Fareed

the games fun but a little clunky. The way the main protaganist is played, which is basically you, is really boring. It was more fun in the G Generation games where you picked a few starting characters and suits and played through it that way. This game tries not to be linear by adding spins but everything else is alwasy the same. 0 customization made it boring

Domesticon

Like a 6/10.

It was fun, but frustrating as someone with little experience with Gundam. I would see suits I liked such as the Leos and Grazes, or neat Zeon suits and just be told I can't play as them because they aren't "mainline" like the fifty near identical "proper" Gundams. Combat is alright, nothing incredibly deep but enjoyable.

I'd wait for a sale to buy it. Feels like a reasonable $40 game.

Was expecting a bit more customization to the Gundams but that wasn't the case. It is scummy from BANDAI to come out with a "DLC" 1 week after the game came out, makes me feel like I paid $60 for an unfinished game and am now supposed to add $20 to get the whole game. If the DLC had come out maybe 3 months later with more content than what it has then maybe it'd be worth it. BUY THE GAME WHEN IT''S ON SALE is my opinion

VannyVanilla
VannyVanilla

I really, really, really love this game. It's great for a beat em up. It's not Dynasty Warriors Gundam but it's a good close second. (HINT HINT. RELEASE DYNASTY WARRIORS GUNDAM: REBORN ON STEAM, BANDAI). Great music, and if you ever get sick of it you can put your own music in there, decent collection of mobile suits, and a fun storyline full of easter eggs.

My gripes would be the lack of customization for your character. It's just a faceless male who just has the same grunts and voice lines during combat. Would be nice to use different voices and character portraits for your character, but I get it. It's a good cost cutting technique. Also, outside of the Zaku and the GM there are NO Grunt suits available to play, despite a plethora of Grunt suits you're able to bash around in the game.

If you're struggling vs Mobile Armors just grind, level up, and experiment with different skill sets. Dont think of it as "I'm going to go full in on this boss". Take it more like a Dark Souls boss. Learn the patterns and you'll be fine. If you're struggling with the aiming system, use a controller.

Finally, my only other issue would be the online is practically dead. If you're lucky to find rooms, they're usually in private. Maybe crossplay would fix the issue so we can play with out console comrades?

If you're a fan of Gundam and you want fun SDGO style action, go for this gem! I'm begging you, Bandai. Please give me a Gyan :[

TLDR: Game is casual fun for people to grab a buddy or two and play through major battles in the Gundam franchise. Many spoilers for Gundam shows galore.

This game is really fun. It's a near impossible entry for non-Gundam fans who haven't seen a majority of the Gundam shows(mainly those of the Universal Century Timeline, as well as Iron-Blooded Orphans), but for the people who've seen their fair share of Gundam, this game is great! The writing is charming and actually got me to laugh a couple times, the characters are great, and the story is actually not half-bad for an SD game. The main theme behind Juno's character arc is very interesting and I could relate to it quite a lot as someone who enjoys learning about history and war.

People who complain about lack of content have not beaten the game, or they have mountains of time on their hands. The main campaign is about 30-35 hours long, and I've only maxed out 2 Gundams, as well as developed less than 20 units in that time. Then there's chaos missions, and the DLC that I still haven't played yet.

The combat is simple, but it does enough to give you the illusion that you have every weapon a Gundam would be equipped with. You can hack and slash, then you can also pull out cannons and guns at a range. Many levels towards the end got very difficult for me, so expect a little bit of a challenge. The tutorials will help you. Trust me.

My main criticisms of this game stem from the dialogue placement. This game *really* should've been dubbed. The combat is high-speed and fast reaction times are your biggest hope for survival. So having to read subtitles while fighting bosses is not ideal. Neither is reading one spot of dialogue before it abruptly switches to the next conversation after walking a miniscule distance. Not to mention the 30 minute timer for each level that disincentivizes sticking around and listening. The missions lose a lot of character interactions because of this.

Overall, I love this game. I feel my money was well spent, and I'm definitely going to achievement hunt this game, since its achievements aren't all that hard. The ending theme is amazing, and was well worth the rage-inducing struggle the final boss gave me. I've listened to the song many times already. Honestly, I don't think this game deserves the hate that it got.

MonkeyOfWAR
MonkeyOfWAR

The lock system is so flimsy in the tutorial. There're literally 2 enemies and it kept spazzing out locking from 1 zaku to another. It's a shame since gundam dynasty 3 was my favorite game as a kid.

Snickerbockers
Snickerbockers

gameplay is boring and repetitive. combat is nothing but button mashing. You never face more than a few enemies at a time. you can't move freely about the battlefield. this is not a musou regardless of how it may look.

it was cool seeing dozens and dozens of different mobile suits from every gundam series, but they all play exactly the same, just with different stats. same complaint about missions, all you do is clear out all the enemies in an area, move to a different area, etc until you get to the boss fight.

speaking of boss fights, several of them are way too difficult and it feels like you're forced to either grind excessively or pick a sharpshooter and fight extremely conservatively with ranged attacks.

DarkZero
DarkZero

Only recommending it for gundam fans. Main thing about this game is grind to collect gundams. I am disappointed that i cannot use the gundams in their transformation (eg. wing gundam zero, Z gundam etc) i don't know if its just me or other players, since i am having diffculty to play with other people as no one is online

Nateku

Love that if your favorite Gundam is here, you will have to earn it, and the combat is simple but fun. Wish there were more Gundams out, but maybe this is a step forward to doing more gundam games. Bring us more, either in SD or Normal sized. As long as they have a good story to it, i'm game.

I don't normally make reviews but, this game's an exception. It has its flaws, most Mobile Armor fights being a pretty big example, but, it's incredibly fun, and if you're a gundam fan, you're going to find a ton to enjoy. The combat is fast paced and hectic, the sheer amount of nostalgia is spectacular, and while some notably... major mobile suits somehow didn't make it into the game's roster, what is there is done amazing amounts of justice. Is the game perfect? Nope. Is it still pretty good? Definitely.

Dracula's Butler
Dracula's Butler

It's been 30 years and I still can't make a GUNDAM fly freely in a game (Cross Rays excluded).

Cool downs really suck and while I understand the attempt to achieve some difficulty balance, the restraint on attacking and boosting goes too far and makes the game boring. It's a Gundam, not a pile of scrap parts that you need to patch up. It's supposed to slice through grunt suits like butter and be a "one-man-army," that is the point.

Having to wait for all your moves to cool down while dodging around on the battle field is not fun, and makes grinding annoying (boss fights are worse).

My advice, wait for a sale / when all the DLC is included.

HAZESHIFT

Freakedoutduck

An alright beat em up, with plenty of mobile suits to unlock. Has a silly and rather meh story to give a reason to mash a bunch of different Gundam timelines and series together. Maybe not for everyone but Its Gundam and that is something that is seriously in short supply on PC/Steam.

Navue

Look, we NEED more Gundam games in the west. I am a colossal Gundam fan and admit that I'll play whatever trash they drop here, but this just doesn't have the longevity you want. It's an arcade hack and slash with RPG mechanics, with spongy bosses that make it feel like all of your progress means nothing.

Combat is enjoyable for the most part, but some bosses are infuriating, with little or no openings for the player to safely attack and little means to counter them- unless you have consistent superhuman reaction times, you are going to have a bad time with Mobile Armors and some specific MS boss fights.

Unfortunately, players often hit road blocks in the form of the uncapping system. Mobile suits have a level cap that can be pushed up by use of uncapping parts on them. However, in the late game, getting the uncap parts to proceed past suit level 80 requires the player to complete content at levels higher than 80, including insane multi-Mobile Armor fights on hard mode, while piloting a criminally underpowered suit for the task. This isn't an endgame, this is masochism, and not the good kind.

I love Gundam, but this is not the game the franchise needed.

Wubabo

As a previous gamer of SDGO, I was really looking forward to this game. It hits the mark in nearly every way except... IT DOESNT HAVE PVP! The only other issue I have is that they are missing some fan favorite suits, but I'm sure they will release them eventually. Other that that, actually pretty challenging game and its been a lot of fun.

MSG to Devs. If you want this game to flourish you NEED to add PVP! I'm afraid it will die out if you don't address this in the near future. You have a wealth of former SDGO players ready to back this game 100% if it just had PVP!

Narita Mediciana
Narita Mediciana

You really need some improvements for this game, but i still give this game a 'Good' review.

Need Improvement/Adds:
- Add more Units/MS, add more Warships (can playable in the future), and add some Giant Units (such as Big Zam, Rafflessia, Psycho Gundam, etc that can playable in special mode/raid).
- You need to expand Team limit from 3 to at least 5 to 10 players inside.
- Need PvP mode with at aleast 10 players inside (including Ally and Enemy units).
- Add 'Choose Your Pilot' feature.
- Add Mission/Quests feature.

Overall 8/10
Gameplay 10/10

Community 6/10

If you are seeing this comment: DO NOT GO OFF THE OLD REVIEWS. They are accurate to the state of the game before patch 1.30, however this patch releases today and fixes many of the issues plaguing the game, and I would highly recommend you wait for an updated review or video coverage regarding the game before deciding whether to purchase it.

I myself have been able to enjoy this game even before the patch, and while this is written before I have gotten to play on this patch, having read the full patch notes, I cannot stress enough the phenomenal work the devs are putting in. They were quick and decisive on responding to feedback, clearly understand the playerbase and have abundantly shown that they are committed to ensuring the game is as enjoyable as possible, rather than turning it into another cashgrab. Their dedication alone is worth supporting this game for, in my genuine and humble opinion.

great mix of extreme vs and dynasty warriors gameplay, on top of a fun story that's packed with gundam fanservice

the interactions between pilots from different gundam works are really nice to see, and the whole crossover concept initially sold me on the game (haven't had much in the way of a proper crossover game since SD Gundam G Generation Overworld or Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3, where it was part of their story)

overall, definitely worth getting if you're a big gundam fan

ULTRANX

The game is amazing, I love the way the combat works and how its one of the few new action rpg co-op games.
Plus its Gundam. I love it, and the story is amazing.
To all those hating on the story, this isn't like other games where they pack long cutscenes in the story padding the game inbetween fights.
In this game they made the library section of your menu.
Under Cutscene Replays under Briefings, they have all the loredumps for each anime and even loredumps for hidden G-Universe plot stuff, all exclusive to the library for you to watch whenever you want at your leisure, the library is clutch in this game.
You can even try out the different dialogue choices.
So no, this game's plot isn't lacking at all, in fact its a love letter to Gundam fans, especially Universal Century fans and G Gundam fans. Also the final boss fight is so satisfying.
If you can look past it being SD I guarantee you all will enjoy it, I honestly think the G-Universe itself is whats SD and not the world outside of G-Universe. So if you think SD takes away the immersion think of it that way, you are in a virtual simulation world after all, plus SD is probably easier to animate.

This game is a Bad Monster Hunter game with Gundams' skins.

1. Bosses' attacks have no cool down, and able to spam the same move over and over until you die. Eventhough there are (perfect)blocking/(perfect)sidestep to reduce the damage . The Bosses can still spam the graping/throw move on you which you need to use energy to break out of the hold. You need to attack to gain energy and it will not regen over time. Even with a full bar of energy you only able to break out of the throw 2-3 times and the Bosses can still grape and throw you to death since they don't have cool down on skills.

2. MA (Moble Armor) can spam dashing with high speed and force you to block, and they can move way faster then MS. The MAs are Funnels themselves. And for real WTF with the Psyco Gundam doing the wrestling moves.

3. Some units which are shapshooter with funnels, and yet there are few funnel attacks only shoot at a set distance infront of you, not on the target you've locked on. Like WTF forcing a shooting units into melee fight with way less health than infighter units. beside whats with the long CD with the range attacks for shapshooter untis.

4. Infighters' range attacks power are too low, also lack of range attacks + low ammo, it will take you a long time to kill a target which on a high ground or ships in the air

5. Partner Units A.I. are Du mb Fu ck. The partner which has the Boss's aggro will can to rez you when you are down not the one with out aggro, which leads to it tries to rez you then keep knock away by the boss until it gets kill also. (OK, the partner's A.I. is fixed after the patch)

6. The Units moves/skills/attacks are different when they are the Bosses and after you get them.

7. Way too much special effects, you can see sh it with all those beam and explosions = you can't see the bosses's attack = can't block

Thats all for now, will add more when it comes to mind.

Most people who dislike this product aren't familiar with Japanese game formats. This is pretty much similar to G Generation but you can use your MS in action combat. Story is meh but it is nice to revisit precious gundam memories, graphics are good, gameplay is a decent initial challenge (if you put all our level up points into one MS, you're gonna make it overpowered and lose the challenge, spread the love, enjoy various MS). It's a game that let's you spend time in the gundam universe, so if you aren't a gundam fan or a fan of japanese culture, this game is not for you. If you enjoy gundam and japanese culture, you'll at the very least understand why it's enjoyable.

Highly recommend this on a sale. If it's full price, only if you have the money to spare. It's a wind down, relaxing game to play. It isn't meant to be a "i'm going to main this game for a while" that is totally not it's purpose. It can be a game you can play every now and then and look forward to each play session.

Pros:
-Combat is enjoyable
-Designs look pretty nice especially with all that added texture
-Boss Fights are challenging
-UI Is pretty straight forward
-Game is simple and straight forward

Cons:
-Not really worth the $60 price tag
-A few bugs
-CAN get repetitive
-Not enough suits
-Not enough missions
-Boss fights while challenging can also be a bitch and a half to fight
-Really bad camera control but can be rectified with switching off Auto Locking and using Soft Locking
-The amount of diversity when it comes to combat in this game
-Movement FEELS slow but it is not too slow
-Capped at 60FPS

Overall Summary:
Objectively, this game is pretty mid and not really worth its price tag. It's a hack and slash Gundam game. It can get repetitive but it's not to the point where you're having to run missions any more than 5 times. The bugs when this game came out were pretty bad as some of them were game breaking mainly the UE-4 Fatal Error but after the first update, I haven't experienced it since then. You can't go over 60 FPS which is a letdown as I feel there are those who have some nutty computers out there and they can easily play with over that. The combat can get repetitive but this is a game where you can basically turn your brain off and just have fun whacking grunt suits. I honestly wish there were more units to pilot - mainly grunt suits and some other iconic suits in the franchise. The roster feels small for how BIG the Gundam Universe is which is a real shame.

Subjectively, I personally enjoy the game. I would honestly recommend it to anyone who enjoys hack and slash games. I like how a lot of the suits operate and how combat is. The boss fights are actually challenging and some more than others to an infuriating degree but I managed to get through them. They're not impossible to beat. This game allows you to turn your brain off and just have fun. The combat is actually pretty nice and in a way, I can see some aspects of SDGO in here which hits the nostalgia bone in the right places. The graphics are nice and the suits are nice to look at.

Really nice game to play with 2 other friends, hours of fun unlocking your favourite mobile suits and leveling them up
2 things this game needs fixed though
1. The auto aim in this game is rather wonky, and tends to fire at something else even though you think you are looking at your target.
2. The brightness of some maps are just... so bad. Night maps are only visible if you max out the brightness, and some desert maps are so bright you need to minimize the brightness.
I hope they fix these 2 issues

I'm loving this game a lot so far. It's a great hack/slash type of game, and I would even compare it to dark souls with how some of the game play goes, notably the timed block and counter mechanics.

As several other reviews noted TURN OFF AUTO LOCK ON, also change lockon priority to center, it helps alot.

All the units that I have played feel exactly like I hoped they would feel when playing them. If you love Freedom, you're gonna love it in this game, it feels AMAZING.

The story is actually pretty decent. It's a fix the timeline type of plot line(you learn that in the first few minutes, not really a spoiler). You get to play first hand in so many amazing moments from the Gundam multiverse.

One con that I will agree with the other reviews on, it's a tad unfortunate that the voice acting is exclusively in Japanese, as in the heat of a mission, you may forget to read what your cast of characters are saying. It's not that bad for me though, as I actually enjoy redoing the missions.

I would suggest you look past the mixed reviews of the game, and give it a try if you're a fan of Gundam, and have halfway decent reflexes(you'll need them).

[Intro]

This game is a must have if you are a Gundam fan, or even a mecha fan. This game is action packed and will most likely have your favourite MS in it. Yes, this game can be a grind, but it is not that bad and I quite enjoy every moment of it. Personally, this game reminds me of the good old days playing online Co-op on the PS3 with Gundam Senki 0081.

[Pros]

- Great graphics for Gundam standard

- Beautifully replicated stages of each respective Gundam timeline

- True co-op focused game

- Combos and controls are quite fluid and not overly complicated

- Every MS feels different and has great animation

- Enough MS to choose from all different series (at least the popular/main ones)

[Cons]

- Dialogues can be quite lengthy if you are not into these type of things

- Could have been better if including 4-6p co-op for certain maps/stages

- Can be a grind if you are a perfectionist (you probably don't mind if you are one)

- Camera lock-on/reset can be annoying sometimes

[Final Notes]

This game doesn't have PvP, though I didn't listed as a con because personally I find PvP might start to introduce Pay-2-Win elements into the game. Then it will be no different to any other cash-grab PvP titles. I'm happy the focus is Co-op and SP with a not-to-bad storyline (though I skip them all lol). I do hope they release more DLC packs and new mission packs in the future to continue to support the game (rather than a version 2). Also, please increase the number of players both SP and Co-op, happy even if its map-dependent, would've loved to rollout the full 00 team.

To buy or not to buy,

If you are a Gundam fan and can afford it -> Buy it now.

If you are a fan of co-op and likes Mecha -> Buy it now.

Any other reasons, just wait for price drop or avoid.

the original character for this game , all 3 of them is very annoying and there is virtually no plot , i don t know why they waste money on their VA at all. by annoying , i mean whenever the gundam series character say something those 3 will just keep talking and spoling everything which is very annoying for those who already watch those series as it s disrupt the flow of the character conversation and SUPER SPOILING EVERYTHING for those who didn t watch those series. there is no upside here.

gameplay is just like gundam age cosmic from PSP , a game from 10 years ago. just with better graphic. if they have go the SDGO gameplay route instead , this would have been game of the year for me.

ALSO ,FIX THE LOCK ON ISSUE ALREADY !!! apprently it s only on mouse/keyboard that have this issue and not the controller.

If you like Gundam, and you're not looking for something crazy fast-paced, this is a good ARPG to grab a few buddies and play through. The story is interesting even if it's presented in a lackluster format. The skill ceiling is actually pretty high as different units have different cancel routes through attacks that can turn a clunky suit into a great one, but it's totally on you to learn them, the game doesn't really lay that out for you. More customization and control over parts like rerolling would be great, but at current you have to grind pretty hard for specific stats on parts.

Overall, a little expensive for what's offered, but the upcoming updates with free content should help with that.

As the other comments stated, game is extremely grindy.

There are only 4 things you can change in the game, (1)your gundam, (2)runes that give the unit extra stats, (3)pilot skills, (4)AI teammates' gundams.

(1)Each unit has only 4 stats which u can upgrade, some are practically useless to some unit (melee for range focused unit, vice versa). At the current point of my game 1 mission yields about 2000 to 3000g, while upgrading a single point of stat (like +10 melee, not even a level) after 1st limit break cost 2000g+.

The grind part makes it so you will have to replay missions, Missions plays out the same every time, same spawn, same enemies, same map. If upgrade isn't this costly I might have the tiny bits of fun replaying using different upgraded units but nope.

It is hilarious to see so many reviews saying that you just have to pick a favourite unit then only upgrades and plays it. What's the point of having so many units if you can only play one.

(2)The runes gives like +stats and some effects, for example +70hp and dash cost 2% less boost meter.

(3)Pilot skills are passives that gives u minimum effects that are unnoticeable and I do not feel it has impacted my game at the slightest (Combo time increase, dash cost less). Also, 15 pilot levels lets u equip 1, max 3.

(4)If you play with friends (which you should), you do not get to have AI Teammates. If you play alone, AI teammates are pacifist. They don't seem to do much except for trying their best to revive you when u are down, even when there are enemies that are knocking them down and disrupting the process constantly.

The game was designed to make you have to replay it but also made it extremely unfun to do so.

Super Deformed Gundam

This is pleasure surprised from Bandai. As SD Gundam series (not to be confused with SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online: SDGO which was Gacha South Korean game) has never been more than casual grindy turn based game with much for eye candy fan service until now. SD Gundam Battle Alliance is an action RPG game that focuses on reaction, with most interactive gameplay involving choosing good approaching to deal as much damage as possible, while avoid an attack from enemy. The game is allowed coop in familiar fashion to online game where up to 3 players can join in a mission and tackle the odds together.

It's also a first time that they expand a story behind the simulator of G universe in full lore and fully voice original casts that actually involved in the coming plot, something that rarely happen in G Generation counterpart.

Story

For SD Gundam fan, you maybe are familiar with the purpose of the G universe simulator. Story itself narration is a welcome one as it has never been once before that the story of the Universe is cooperated with original series and is explained in this scale. Though in this review I will not point out to that but instead there's one feature I need to explain about how they narrate/carry out a story and lore in this game. Every time they brief you something about an event or plotpoint, the respective topic will be added to the cutscene replay under the library option. Inside Briefing Scene will contains said briefing cutscene. As it turns out that everytime you reach a "lore" or "plotpoint" briefing including a briefing about story of respective gundam series will never be played in a main story cutscene but instead the popup show up and said the briefing scene is added to said library, maybe they do that in order to avoid turning cutscene into unnecessary too long one and break the gaming flow. However due to this feature some people find a first impression of story to become disconnected as they found out that the casts are unusual adapt to the situation too fast. First few optional briefing scenes are, to me is actually very important introduction to the beginning of the story, which explain the cause and reason why they're here for.

Gameplay

In this game, player gets to choose a suit which each of them has different moveset they wish to control and use then jump into mission. Mobile Suit can be tuned to increase level and performance with capital such as HP, boost, melee and ranged stat. Player can obtain more mobile suit throughout drop or reward from clearing battle and defeating boss enemy therefore it encores to play a stages few more times. Mobile Suit can be equipped with part that give additional stat and passive effect like more boost more attack dmg etc. When player clear a stage, they gain increased exp and level up which grant them a new pilot skill when it reaches certain level, which will give player an edge to compete against a new and stronger enemy in later state of the game.

In additional to player, two partners can be brought into battlefield for support. They give out passive friendship ability depending on role of the suit they're in. They also can revive player should they be shot down during combat and vice versa. Partners are unlocked throughout the same way player unlock MS, by unlocking the MS, respective and original pilot of that suit will also be unlocked. Partner is not allowed in coop session.

For the first time that the selling point is in gameplay mechanic. Unlike the simple standard turn based game where you can approach at each own pace in the counterpart titles. There's quite in-depth flow in how the game is played going on, and will have largely impacted an experience the player will be going to have throughout the entire length of game should player beware of it.

On very first mission, they introduce you to a game with hack/slash grunt enemy that's barely a threat to you in order to introduce a button string, hate line and basic movement, then soon after that they blow a player away with an actual boss fight right away, such as the important of keeping a boss in constant fighting to the balancer meter system that all bosses have possessed. This is core feature of the game, boss fight will be toughest thing the game will throw at player, and will be a constant pressure that challenge player skill throughout the game each with different approach and how player can deal with them.

For starter the tutorial will make sure you know there're three different type or role of suit in game. All Rounder, Infighter and Sharpshooter. Each will have near completely different mechanic and each perform depending on said roles.

Next, the game tutorial makes sure that a player will be aware of necessary basic combo string, bonus damage depending on action, and that creating an opening for massive damage is important, including avoid damage taken as much as possible with Perfect Sidestep, Perfect Guard and Counter. And tutorial lives to it value as every boss fight is punishing for misplay and extremely reward when perform correctly. Sometimes, a simple jump, hold guard then rapid descent can dodge quick range attack from boss altogether.

While an action seems sluggish and unresponsive, there're canceling mechanic and advance maneuver that increase overall performance, DPS and largely how smooth the flow of gameplay will have become. For example by closing in melee from the front, by input the cancel attack animation after first attack, and quickly jump then boost, the suit you control will immediately fly itself toward the back of the locked on enemy and from that point you can deal bonus damage and inflict greater stagger on enemy with following combo. The shooter can shorten their delay/ recoil after using the weapon by shooting a following up different range one, this deal greater DPS and can deplete balancer meter on boss much faster, by linking into range weapon with less recoil, it allows quick evasive maneuver after.

Visual and Sound

Those fanservices never really change. You can see your boi Zaku changing mag, does ironic move kick and some. Top it off with rearrange of all those ironic soundtrack, except now in action game. Ironic sound effect of white base, beam rifle and so on.

The battlefield design are quite good, there's elevate point in mountain, buildings in the city, a lot of turning and corner in space fortress etc, the design choice helps making map feel less repetitive. The downside is that there's no actual space battle, mostly when it's a space battle, you're fighting on space fortress or outskirt body of colony which played exactly like when playing on earth/gravitational environmental.

Personal Opinion

I'm very much enjoying this game flow. I have always dreamed about a good action gundam game and this is definitely one of them. Mainly because it highly emphasizes the pilot skill as it always has been in SD Gundam G Generation, except now player is a pilot themselves. Fully story narration with all of them have been voiced with ironic line from respective series. It's nothing like SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online, which was release by South Korean, gacha based, grindy and powercreep gaming experience player vs player environment which I dare say there're way more love being poured into this one than that gacha game. If you wish it to be that kind of game, this game will be near exact opposite of what you expect.

The downside is there's no real space battle and lack of a many ironic suits but if this is their goal with a game, I will welcome more sequel or DLC additional of more suit, more stages and so on.

First off, lemme say that this game is for Gundam enthusiasts. There's a lot of story driven content, both canon from the actual shows and new to the game itself. This is not like Gundam Breaker where you can customize your own Gundam. It is more like Dynasty Warrior Gundam, where you have access to Gundams from several different timelines. As you play you gain experience for yourself, allowing access to skills which can enhance or alter your playstyle. Blueprints have a chance of dropping throughout the missions, allowing you to unlock new mobile suits to use. You strengthen the mobile suits by spending capital on them to maximize their stats, and you also have a selection of parts to equip (to a max of 4) that can help you min/max the mobile suit. Both the single player and multiplayer play exactly the same, save the fact that as single player you can have up to 2 allies assist you.

Yes, there is a grind factor to it, but once you get rolling, it gets easier to obtain capital, blueprints, and parts. The only negative thing that I have experienced is the targeting system. First, let me say I use a gaming controller, and it is frustrating when trying to target something specific and having to use the same analog stick that controls camera viewing to toggle between targets. Once i get the target, i then have to re-center my camera view, which sometimes leads to me taking a hit that i could have dodged/blocked/countered.

I'm looking forward to the future DLC as I bought the Deluxe edition which came with the season pass. This game will be getting a lot of play hours out of me. So let me wrap this up so I can go play.

Wait till this game is $20 and buy it.

While this game has AWESOME ANIME ROBOTS FIGHTING in a sort of "Zoids: battle legends" kind of way, this game is SUPER F___ING EXPENSIVE for what it is. The steam refund window is super tiny, because opening scenes eat up that hour of "Free gameplay" while you figure out what exactly you got yourself into.

1. No English dubs. If you don't understand spoken Japanese, you're going to be getting hit with bullets while you read what people are saying to each other in the middle of the fight, screaming in high pitched anime voiced. you're going to miss out on key objective hints. and there is NO pause button.

2. I'm 11 hours in, and i've beaten the game. unlocked all the things and powered up all the suits. I realize I could drop an additional $40 for some DLC that adds a couple of missions and suits, but thats a steaming pile of p00. they're selling an incomplete game for way too much money, and charging even more for about 2 extra hours of game. Why am I going to pay $100 for a game? Guitar Hero lasted longer.

3. All replayability is exploited in the main story line. If you unlock all the gundams, you're going to play each level multiple times. If there was some kind of ranking system and gundam customization, the multiplayer might be good, but you can't switch out weapons and the multiplayer is something you'd play with a friend at home instead of online.

All that being said, this game is pretty cool. The awesome graphics, different fighting styles and unlockables ALMOST make me forget how offensively expensive this rip off was.

Got to say that when I first saw this and thought to myself "omg dynasty warrior like gundam game MUST BUY" in the end I did beat the game going through on hard mode now but I wish it did sway into the warrior like game style you versus nearly 100 enemies at a time. So far I've grown to really enjoy this game. There's a nice variety of mobile suits and gundams at your disposal and it's fun hack and slash fighting. It's already worlds better than new gundam breaker. No annoying objectives or timers to deal with. The only gripe I would have is that it's a bit annoying to grind the resources to upgrade other mobile suits if you want to experiment with them right away. Other than that, it's good fun. Definitely recommend it to gundam fans.

Unicorn furf
Unicorn furf

Battle Alliance is a game that is in conflict with itself and it is tough to recommend it if you aren't already a big Gundam fan, because that's the only likely reason I can find for overlooking its flaws.

As you play through the game, you are constantly unlocking new mobile suits, which is cool, but you are strongly discouraged from trying them out as you get them. In order to make progress, you need to spend funds to upgrade mobile suits to get them up to a decent level to take on increasingly harder missions, but you are given nowhere near enough money to keep more than one or two in a competitive state, so consequently, you are strongly encouraged to pick just one unit to upgrade as you play through the game. It doesn't feel good to see your rewards for progress go to waste since you need to stay economical.

It's especially disappointing, given how Artdink had the perfect unlock and customisation system in their earlier Gundam Battle games on the PSP. There, as you fought through the One Year War you'd start with a basic GM, then get a slightly better custom GM, Guncannon, Gundam, Full Armour Gundam, G-3 and so on. Each one would earn its own pool of custom points that could tune it up in many different ways, but it didn't boost them so much that it ever felt like starting over on a new mobile suit was a setback to recover from. It couldn't work exactly the same in Battle Alliance, since this game bounces you from one timeline to another erratically, but that's still no excuse for coming up with something worse than what they were doing fifteen years ago.

Missions aren't particularly exciting, slash your way through a bunch of mobile suits that are barely capable of fighting back in order to get to a boss that is either a mess or a pushover. If you're an appropriate level (Or less because you've been spending your money on multiple mobile suits), you get to experience the frustration of an enemy with no hitstun, that you can't easily read because there are four of you showering it in particle effects, and that will dash across the arena to slap you down twice as fast as you can move. Mobile armour battles get especially bad when one of your partners goes down, the other attempts to revive him, gets targeted by the boss and repeatedly knocked down by wide, sweeping attacks, and you are ultimately left alone to fight the thing, with no chance at all of getting even five seconds to help one of them back up on their feet because the enemy is utterly relentless.

If you are above the recommended level, however, you'll just melt the boss without a sweat because level scaling is really strong.

Half way through Battle Alliance you'll start unlocking Confused missions, which are just old stages with a new battle appearing inside. So you're fighting the same old level 5 enemies from the first time you completed it, but with the addition of a level 25 mobile suit fight. It's not meaningful content and the disparity in challenge within the stage just highlights what an awful idea the levelling mechanics are.

I haven't mentioned the story yet because there's very little to say. You play as some guy who gets brought to video game world with his operator for the sake of looking at a few random episodes of Gundam. That's about it. Combat is almost as shallow, it's just auto-lockon, pew pew, slash slash, repeat. You get a few moves like a launcher and a wide slash, but they aren't much more than a little mixup to keep yourself entertained against fodder and they aren't very practical against relentless bosses that take no hitstun.

Even with my criticism, I hope this game is enough of a success for Artdink to get another shot at this. They put in plenty of effort into making plenty of high quality Gundam assets and if they don't get put to use in another, better game, it'll be a real waste.

Solid hack-and-slash for fans of the series and newcomers alike.
The charming SD graphics and bright cast of familiar characters from all across the MSG franchise will pull you in, and the satisfying combo-based combat will keep you there for quite a while. Juggle opponents, utilize your universal parry for some clutch counterattacks, or expertly dodge attacks while keeping your offense going with your mobile suit of choice's abilities.
Unfortunately the game suffers from being quite frustrating - many attacks have very little wind-up and often require you to be on your toes to dodge them, and the visual noise of characters speaking, explosions coming from both sides, and little visual feedback can cause players to get disoriented and lost easily in the thick of it.
I still think this game is worth a try though, and while the price is a bit steep, I think it's reasonable to say you'll get your money's worth if you're interested in the game's combat.

Better than New Gundam Breaker in story but not in game content.

I will make it simple.
1. Good original story & recap story of some of the Gundam Series
2. Simple game-play not many combos, charge attack & special.
3. Upgrade system is simple easy to understand.
4. Online co-op is solid had no issues in latency & no disconnected games so far.
5. All single player content you unlock is available in online co-op.
6. Graphics is solid but its was made for the switch & ps4.
7. Performance is a bit poor on the highest setting but still playable depending on your setup the game almost looks the same medium & high.

The game does require alot of Grinding to unlock mobile suit blueprints & items for upgrades its a negative or positive depending on how you look at it. There is more i like to ad but who is actually going to read a review many people just look at scores.

As a Gundam fan i can honestly say it isn't the best co-op Gundam game that was released but it is one of the best that available on steam. (If you have a PS4/5 import Gundam Breaker 3 Break edition [English version] this is one of the best Co-op Gundam game you can play its "The monster hunter of Gundam/Gunpla" check some of the online reviews if your interested if your unable to get GB3 New Gundam Breaker is available on steam but it is a poor sequel missing many features that was in GB3 but if its on-sale and you like the price its still ok to give it a try)

In conclusion i did enjoy the game more gundam the better I hope that the upcoming dlc offers enough that i will come back and continue my grind.

This game made me depressed while I played it. It's not a fun game, as the stamina system forces you to stop and go repeatedly, especially against bosses. There are vital system that are poorly explained and have no hints in the loading screen. The levels are riddled with far more invisible walls than you'd expect from a AAA-priced game, and the customization and rpg elements are extremely shallow. The story doesn't matter even in its own world, as everything is a simulation/hallucination where the player's actions don't matter.

The whole game reeks of Bandai's disdain towards its fans.

The chibi-like design of the mobile suits had me skeptical at first, but i grew to accept it as the gameplay is pretty fun. I only ever watch UC, but there seems to be a decent amount of mobile suits for that timeline in game, and i have yet to unlock them all. The upgrade system is pretty grindy, but i suppose it could be worse. voice acting is great, plot is pretty complex but i admittedly haven't been paying much attention besides missions involving UC or AC characters. All that being said, i absolutely hate most of the bossfights, especially against large enemies; not ashamed to say i've just started using multiplayer to find a much higher level to do all my heavy lifting. If you're a fan of any of the Gundam series, the game is well worth your time, if nothing else than to see the different characters interact.

There are already tons of reviews regarding gameplay and I can't disagree with any of them really. But despite that, I don't mind. And as a longtime Gundam fan and someone who honestly will take just about any in the franchise that come to the west, I really wanted to love this game. It's not for everyone, but as someone who loves hack and slash games like dynasty warriors, I'm pretty easily pleased with games like this. Usually the selling point for me is the variety on playable character/suits. But this game just doesn't have that.

I know it wouldn't be as easy to add playable suits like in the regular SD Gundam series. But there are so many grunt suits that they show you in game that you can never unlock. Which as someone who loves Leo's I was hoping this would finally be the game I could play as one. It was a bit of a tease when i realised you can only fight them. And that is the case for several suits you see in the game.

TLDR: Gameplay is simple, but I actually kind of liked it. However as a massive Gundam fan there just isn't enough variety in suits to recommend this game. and you can only unlock/play as a handful of the suits you see in game.

Game is fun challenging at times 2 man the whole game with my good friend and we have lost and won screamed cried and enjoyed every second of grind. If you haven't played a hack and slash or Diablo or something that requires a grind to get stronger the whole point of Gundam to become stronger. The story is decent the voice acting is amazing it's easy to follow along I love all the anime refs littered through out. As of the Time im writing this, I just started Directory 7 of the game.
So far i really like the game.

This game is great for people who enjoy some casual grind. You run some missions and earn money to upgrade your mobile suits. Then you can use those upgrades to take on missions that are more challenging.
Once you get the hang of the controls the fights play really fluid. Dodge and perfect guard windows in the game are a bit to short for my taste.

I have seen many people give this game a negative review due to Mobile Armor bosses.
I'm not that great of a player and had to retry most of those bosses 1-3 Times. But i don't think they are as bad as described by other reviews. Take some time, get used to the enemy and use block and evade. Then those bosses will go down eventualy. Or maybe those people are playing with an underleveled gundam to face them. Lower level then the mission leads to increased damage taken and lower damage dealt.
And if it still does not work, you can play that mission with a friend or some random person in multiplayer. The Ai partners the player gets in singleplayer deal only a fraction of the damage a player does. Then does Bosses go down really fast and its praticly impossible to lose.

Dunno why nowdays when people face a challenge they seem to get frustrated when they can't clear it on first try.

Mouse and Keyboard mapping sucks, does not recognize mouse thumb buttons when attempting to remap. Terrible port. Wait until it leaves early access. Might get more content, then. Pick it up on a deep sale if you're thinking about trying it.

I've seen a lot of negative reviews on this game and most of the complaints were about the camera and locking system...

all i can say is...LEARN TO ADJUST/USE THE OPTION/SETTING TO ADJUST THE CONTROLS ACCORDING TO YOUR PLAYSTYLE.

i suggest that when you use RANGED unit, go for these setting: Lock on priority - prioritize CENTER, Auto lock - No, and Action Camera - None.

when using MELEE unit, go for these setting: Lock on priority - prioritize DISTANCE, Auto lock - No, and Action Camera - None.

on graphic setting, turn off bloom, lens flare, and motion blur.
