Please please please optimize this for the deck and PC. I loved this game growing up and it introduced me into darker gaming where you could complete it multiple ways. I would love to share this with my kids.

Cool Visuals, Story and Gameplay mechanics but terrible execution. The level layouts just suck and the half-baked stealth system just does not work most of the time, and while the aiming system is cool when it comes to slow gameplay, it all falls apart when you're forced into combat most of the time.

Just finished the game. This really reminds me of Perfect Dark so I really do recommend it if you are into the older types of action games. I want to say it's a stealth game but the way the camera works and the way the gameplay is, you don't really get much guidance on how to progress. So you have to search a guide online, and the difficulty is pretty difficult for being on the normal mode.

Like most free radical games released at the time, I love this game to death, played the hell out of it on Playstation 2 back in the day. Do not take this review as a thumbs down for the game itself.

However, this PC port is just unplayable, which is a shame because I'd like this game to be better preserved and was happy when it came back to steam. No out of the box support for widescreen resolutions (I hear the GOG version fixes this, but I can't confirm it myself and I'm not going to buy it a second time on PC just to check) and has a bug that desyncs audio and framerate which runs everything in slow motion, and reportedly has visual issues running above 1080p.

I've scoured the internet for fixes, none are a one size fits all kind of solution. Hell, I even went REALLY beyond the weeds looking for fixes beyond even running the game on my windows partition and tried to see if Gamescope on Linux solved the issue since there are times running a game in WINE/Proton through gamescope will fix bad PC port problems especially with older games. Nope. No dice. Just play this game through other methods than the native PC port if you wanna revisit this on PC, you will have a better experience.

I have over 30 years of gaming experience, I played hundreds of games and I can confidently say that Second Sight stands tall among the pantheon of the best video games I've ever seen.

Let me break down the reasons why this game shines even after 20 years since it's release:

- The story grabs your attention immediately, from the first second: you wake up with amnesia, captured, beaten bloody, and with telekinetic powers. But you're not a superhero, you are a person. You are hurt, you are scared, there's a good amount of immersion. The story grabs your attention and holds it through the whole game, delivering one of the best plot twists I've seen. What makes it amazing is that the plot twist makes perfect sense, yet it's completely unexpected.

- The gameplay is very enjoyable - there's plenty of different guns and powers that can give enough variety to your play style. Both stealth and action approaches are possible, all powers have their use, they all look great, and you don't feel like an unstoppable juggernaut.

- The amount of details that work towards immersion are tremendous: music adds a layer of atmosphere that draws you deeper into the experience. It creates a dark and captivating ambiance, perfectly complementing the gameplay, characters walk slowly and trip when they are hurt, voice actors are doing stellar work.. The insane asylum level sends shivers down my spine, just by listening to all the lunatics, they sound so natural!

- Even 20 years after release, the game looks good. Yes, textures are blury and there aren't a lot of polygons, but the visual style still looks good, and there's enough attention to details that keep you immersed

- The menu alone is a masterpiece! One of the most atmospheric menus ever.

If you enjoy 3-rd person action and engaging plots - buy this game, do not have any doubts. This is a hidden gem that you will can be very lucky to experience.

Bought on PS2 when I was 9, can't believe i'm playing it again on a PC, This game was what ignited my love of the psychic world, this game was and still is my all time favourite game ever. With all that being said I truly feel that more thought should have gone in to converting the controls to PC, as certain tasks are more difficult to do than others. This game may have some issues but i'm just happy I get to experience this game again after 20+ years.

I'm not nostalgic about this game at all and so playing it for the first time. This might affect my review.

Controller support doesnt work so that was one difficulty in this game. I tried playing this for an hour using keyboard and mouse and found the gameplay and tutorial and everything about it to simply be too archaic to enjoy. The story is OK but the character models just look very dated.

I can appreciate many old games but this one is hard to recommend.

This review is for the ps2 version: Boring gameplay. Bad story. I quit about halfway through. Just not interesting at all.

This review is for the pc version: Unplayable. The controls fight you. The camera fights you. It's super buggy. Don't even attempt to play this version. Get a ps2 copy.

12 FPS.
I do have an olde rig but in CP2k77 I can get >= 50 FPS @ slightly reduced settings.
On a bizarre side note, you can't get into the options menu while playing. Makes setting mouse speed a real PITA.
I don't feel like wasting any of my remaining lifespan trying to fix it.
But, luck to anyone else who buys it.

This is one of my favorite games. The Game was made by the same group that made Timesplitters and Goldeneye 64 and has the same feel. It's a very enjoyable singleplayer game. The game, however lacks the multiplayer features that make Timesplitters and Goldeneye so enjoyable.

Great story, Amazing Cutscenes, Also alot better to play on the PC with the wide control variety and the higher frame-rates.

An awesome game with three concurrent timelines that you play through. Each one is your life at a different point in time.

You have very powerful psi-abilities you can use to turn the tide of combat, in conjunction with guns and other weapons.

An awesome story, I loved playing this game.

Came across this game by chance, which is rare for me, since I only choose games that get well advertised, are by well known publisher or developer and are sequels to already know franchises, but this game, thanks to its engaging storym made me stick to it and play all the way through.

The somewhat cartoonish appearance of the characters and the environment allow some cutbacks on the graphical side that probably helped the game to run smoothly on PS2.

The controls also suffer somewhat from the fact that the game was first released on a console. Some combinations of buttons that were required to be pressed in order to do some activity could have been easily assigned to a single button on the keyboard.

The graphics in this game are looking pretty dated, but the psychic abilities at your disposal accompanied by a pretty compelling storyline which keeps you guessing more than make up for it, and help Second Sight to stand out amongst other first person shooters. Powerful psychics, guns, the NSA (even though they call it something else), and secret Russian research facilities make for a very entertaining game.

The combination of a well-crafted story, clever puzzles, combat (similar to Psi-Ops) with psychic powers outweighs deficient AI and dated graphics. Back on Steam after 10 years! A must-have.

I know the game was re-released without modifications, but THQ specified "Stay tuned" so I hope at some point the game will be improved by fixes for modern operating systems, all the Steam features like cloud saves, achievements and so on.

Maybe we will also get Juiced 2 and Time Splitters? Let's hope so.

Lazy cash grab of a port. This is literally a straight port, meaning THQ Nordic haven't updated a single thing.

The game runs at sub 30 fps, and the only way to get widescreen is to edit a config file.

I also could not for the life of me get my controller to work, so I have to assume there is no controller support.

This was a great game back in the day, with a great story and game play despite some clunky controls.

But time has not been kind to this game.

In short do not buy in its currents state, if there an official or unofficial fix at some point then maybe but right now its a sloppy port that's barely playable.

Common issues include
-issues with frame rate people are commonly getting 5 fps
-resolution has to be modified through a config file in the install folder
-No native wide screen
-crashes and other issue
-no controller support
Yes its an old game but if a game wants today's money it should attempt to fit today's quality standards.

Unacceptable to sell a 16-year-old game for €9,99. Especially in such an outdated state. It's just the original version without any fixes or updates. Higher resolutions (which aren't even really high) just make my screen go black. Widescreen fix caused visual issues. Controls are outdated. Some people can't even play at all due to crashes and whatnot.

Fix these issues, maybe add some achievements, possibly even unlocked frame rates, then I'll buy it again. Refunded for now.

Somebody really needs to make this playable. At the moment it definitely doesn't feel like it.
I might hook up my ps2 and play it on my old ass tv just for the REAL nostalgia feel.

We need 1080p minimum with 144hz or else what's the point of having it in your steam library??

Super buggy.

Amazing game though.

Of course I recommend this game.
Yes it has mechanical issues, like the camera getting stuck between your character and the wall, yes aiming powers and weapons can be a bit of a nightmare, yes it's dated like a relic from Jurassic Park but you're not the that loves the game lime I did and still do. And I do...
At the time of writing this I have already sunk 9 hrs in the game (including pause time whilst running errands) but that does not compare to the hideous amount of my life that I wasted on it back when I succumbed to the devious joys on XBOX. Imagine the animation of Timesplitters 2 mixed with the psychic power variety of Psychonauts, a physics mechanic that would be later found in games like Star Wars Unleashed and flavoured with a rich a story, memorable characters, succinct dialogue, a variety of weapons and a PLOT!

Yes, I'm taking a mild jaunt down Memory Lane for a higher price than I was expecting, but for the joy and nostalgia is worth it for me.

I like the aesthetic, it reminds me of Timesplitters, and Hitman: Blood Money strangely enough.

The rest of the game though?

Horrible... It is a horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE game...

The game starts off with an unskipabble cutscene as two guards are escorting you into an isolation room inside of what appears to be a secret governmental laboratory, then you get up and start using your physic abilities to open the door of your room, the game explains some of this by displaying control tool tips on the Hud.

Afterwards the problems start, you end up running into the guards, and the animations, a.i. and attack systems feel "wonky" to put it lightly, the guards take only a couple of hits to go down on the default "normal" difficulty, and then you get to interact with a computer using your keyboard in order to find the keycode to an elevator that gets you out of the facility, here you get another unskipabble cutscene which serves as an introductory sequence to a retrospect where you play through a severely guided, and restrictive tutorial.

This is accompanied by mediocre voice acting, and terrible pacing, the controls to use cover, as well as to aim are extremely stiff, almost requiring the player to wait for the game to perform your desired action.

Afterwards you get yet another unskipabble cutscene that showcases a terribly, jarring, storyline in which you listen to a debriefing of an old psychologist part of the axis during World War 2 that somehow managed to invent psychic abilities...

The game is filled with cliches, pretentious writing, boring characters, and an extremely restrictive gameplay, the only reason as to why I think people may still remember this game is probably because it hasn't been available for some time, I wanted to try it since it seemed like an interesting game to me.

Now that I've had, I can tell you there was nothing "salvable" out of my experience, because while aesthetic was great, this type of aesthetic can be found in other games, that also use it a lot better, Timesplitters alone makes use of it in a lot more of a creative, and splendorous way.

Plus, that's an actual enjoyable, fun, and entertaining game to play...

I asked for a refund after 35 minutes of torture from this crap.

**LINUX REVIEW**
Will launch with Proton but window mode is unattainable, and i've heard its nearly impossible on windows so, not surprised. Framerate is low, but also not surprised since its not fully supported by steam play. Perhaps with a future version of Proton we will get a fix. As for the resolution, the game was invented at the time of CRT and 4:3 early LCD technology. To get it to work on HD 16:9 you will have to play around with the config file. Overall at the time this was a good game and I hope I can play it again soon in the future.

I loved this game when I had it in Playstation.
I bought it so I could give it a review and to encourage to make the second one ( hopefully, someday )

At the time this game was amazing, great story, gameplay, cool steath mechanic, you could make people fear you and etc.
I bought it so I could have it in case of nostalgia attack and because I was sad when this game was taken out of Steam. Always regretted not buying it at the time.

But sadly is has not aged well :( . The resolution has not improved and the game makes windows bug like crazy.

Loved this game. It's Dated as fuck, but definitely enjoyable if you know what to expect when playing wonky-ass early to mid 2000's console shooters. If you're not familiar with this game though, you probably won't enjoy it. The port is just really fucking bad. The auto aim is awful and makes the game border on being unplayable. Camera is absolute dogshit as well. They basically ripped the ps2/gamecube version onto steam. Don't buy this version of the game if you've never played it before. You'll probably hate it.

This is a solid game that is worth playing through. It is important to note that this game is created by the same people that made Time Splitters- it is somewhat obvious from the character models. The story is interesting with a lot of layers to it; the characters are enjoyable; and the game mechanics are fitting for the overall atmosphere of the game. The game feels somewhat aged, but still has a unique charm to it.

The story is wild, as it is intended to be a mind fuck. It flows very well from scene to scene while raising more questions than answers. Every time you start to understand what's going on, you realize it's not actually what's going on. The game starts you off in a medical facility as John Vattic. He has no memory of anything, except that he has psychic powers. You get dragged back and forth between past and present, trying to understand why you are there. Things will be confusing, but that's only because the story doesn't always hand hold you through every detail.

The characters are interesting: some come off as generic soldiers + single personality trait, while the main characters you follow are more like people. Vattic has a lot of problems going on in his life, and he openly expresses that to the player. There are emotions here and there- and for a parapsychologist behind a desk, he endured a lot of combat. People die, or do they die? You wouldn't want a situation where people die. The cover of the game is accurate to the character.

The game play is from a third person perspective. You climb around, sneak, run from place to place, and do cool things with psychic powers. You can go invisible, throw balls of energy, heal, and astral project. You can toss people around like rag dolls and do all sorts of overpowered things. Though, you are often outnumbered, so even with those powers you will find yourself overwhelmed if you are not careful. The weapon mechanics is a little different; you lock onto targets, and move your cursor around in that space to either go for the center mass or aim for the head. The game is restrictive in the sense that you cannot just completely run around rampaging effortlessly, but it allows you to strategically engage in situations and feel good about the success of them.

If you want a game that has a mind fuck story involving paranormal psychic powers, then you need to play this game. Do not spoil anything for yourself; go in with an open mind and pay attention to the story. If you skip cut scenes and are impatient, the game won't do much to satisfy you.

I sadly cannot give a positive review for this game. I have been asking for this game to come to Steam so that I could enjoy it once again, but it ran so badly that I had to ask for a refund. The screen stuttered and made it almost impossible to play.

I can deal with the limited choice of screen resolution, the dated graphics, and the lack of controller support, but I can't play a game that just flashes all the time on the screen. And I can play just about anything on my computer, so there's no excuses as to why this one failed so much.

I do want this game, but not in this condition.

Ok, so it was not childhood nostalgia this game really is fun to play, well thought out psykic abilities that allow you to progress through the game, incredible textures and models for a game for 2004, great soundtrack and level design, cutscene animations are lively and fluid, shooting and lock on kinda janky but that can be over looked easily. Overall great blast from the past and hidden gem from codemasters. Highly recommended 9 out of 10

ASIF_117

A classic game and a game from my childhood. Fondly remember it and I still think it's worth playing now. The story will literally give you a mindf**k.

That being said this is an old game. And it's a console port no less. Some things I found acceptable as a kid are no longer valid today. Such as the odd aiming system and the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Unfortunately the aiming system is a gameplay feature rooted from the console version of the game, as such it doesn't have any real fix and you just have to get used to it. When you unlock weapons you're forced to lock-on to enemies and THEN you can shoot their bodies. It's a weird system hard to describe until you've already played it.

What I can tell you to fix however is the resolution. https://thirteenag.github.io/wfp#secondsight Download this patch and follow the instructions. You'll get widescreen. I suggest using 1280x720 or 1600x900 as 1920x1080 can make the text look smaller. (don't tinker with in-game settings or you might have to restart the game)

If your game gets stuck in a weird framerate (mine was stuck in 36FPS) then restart your PC to get locked 60FPS. It worked for me.

For more issues refer to PCGamingWiki as always: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Second_Sight

One weird issue that I can't seem to get my head around is that when I launched the game on my Windows 10 PC and I use Dark mode, my desktop would switch to Light mode after closing the game. It's a bit annoying to revert to darkness from Personalize every time I play this game. If anyone knows what causes this or know how to fix this then please lmk.

The game has unskippable cutscenes which you can't pause. Unfortunately there are a few of these minor issues that may hinder your enjoyment. You just gotta deal with it. If you can handle the mid-2000's jank and gimmicks then a wonderful experience awaits.

It's a shame that the game is basically in the same state it was in when it was removed. But I am glad that it's back now and you have a legal method of supporting it.
I hope more old games like this will be brought back to Steam.

Second Sight may have been decent back in 2005, but as a port of a 15-year-old game it's pretty bad.

The graphics, screen resolution, and game-play have not been optimized for modern machines.

★★★☆☆ Good!

Action

Second Sight is the great of the two largely thanks to the quality of its storytelling. I deducted one point for outdated graphics. The player takes on the role of John Vattic who awakes from a coma to find himself trapped inside a government facility with no memory of who he is or how he got there.

As the game progresses he gradually discovers that he has a number of psychic abilities and these of course play a huge part in the gameplay whether it be in solving puzzles or defeating enemies. The fact that these powers can be used pretty much as often as you like does arguably make the game a little easy, but since it is such fun to test out each new power it doesn't really matter. Aside from the odd difficulty in highlighting the correct target when using your abilities the controls are also well implemented and after a bit of practice become quite intuitive. Just for your information: "aiming" is a little "consolish", but still playable in many cases.

Alongside the psychic abilities the game also features a selection of high powered weaponry such as shotguns and machine guns. These are a little too easy to come by at times and the game can often be played as a straight first person shooter, but that would really defeat the purpose.

In the end while Second Sight may have the odd flaw the interesting story and excellent implementation of the psychic powers makes it a game that is certainly worth playing.

P.S. TimeSplitters for PC would be realy fantastic option dear developments ;-)

First played this game on the PS2 when it was first released and although the graphics look dated compared today’s games, this is still a fantastic game and a hidden gem. Combining guns with psychic powers, it allows the player to either play stealthily or guns blazing. While the story may be a bit confusing, it does make sense once the game is finished.

I have very fond memories of playing this game on the Xbox back when it first came out. I ended up finding the original disc among some other classics the other day and was surprised when I tried throwing it into my old 360 and the game wouldn't start because it wasn't supported! I couldn't stop thinking about playing the game once more and was extremely pleased to see it was actually supported on Steam! (I remember checking a few years ago & it was nowhere to be found.) I've played through the Intro, tutorial and a portion of the first level & I am already amazed at how much content I either missed or simply don't remember from my first play through! I've only just started but I'm loving this game all over again. For what it's worth, I would strongly recommend Second Sight whether it's your first time or you're replaying it like I am. A true classic.

Is it the original game on the original hardware? No. Nothing like this is ever going to be. But it's still Second Sight, and I'm never going to tell someone not to play Second Sight.

The only issues I ran into were some audio/visual desynch during a couple of cutscenes, which could be fixed by resetting the game, and the mouse/keyboard controls, which took all of 10 minutes to rectify with a controller config (steam://controllerconfig/11550/2664052980).

It's an amazing game with an amazing story and plenty of special powers to help you on your way through the levels. What more could you want? It's only $9.99 so what do you have to really lose?

The Mid 00’s definitely had it’s phases, and one of them being the criminally underrated and significantly underutilized “Psychic Power’s” Action game of the likes of Geist, Psi-Op’s and of course Second Sight!

Unfortunately for 13 year old me who picked up this game 16 years prior, it was a stealth-action game, something I absolutely sucked at!

Suffice to say, I never finished it, so considering Second Sight got a surprise re-release on Steam in early April this year I took it upon myself to finally getting around to finishing it! And you know what? Psi-Op’s was a better action game and probably the better choice for an impatient teenager like myself! But Second Sight is still a hell of a time now that I have actual patience!

Second Sight begins with our bald main lead John Vattic waking up with the Thriller Starter pack, amnesia and confined to a hospital bed! Just as soon as he regains consciousness Mr. Clean begins demonstrating Psychic Abilities such as Self-Healing, Telekinesis and patient scrubs full of military-grade hardware while battling both Government Goons and Violent Vietnam Flashbacks that seem to be changing the present day!

Story wise, it’s pretty corny but I can’t deny it throws a hell of a lot of loops for the player to wrap their mind around. Coupled with an enthralling atmosphere and some seriously foreboding tunes, Second Sight definitely demonstrates one hell of a Thriller Presentation despite it’s dated nature!

Art Design wise, it aged gracefully! Instead of going for a more realistic approach to it’s graphics, Codemasters decided to use their own art aesthetic present in their Timesplitter’s trilogy with highly expressive facial expressions in the cutscenes and very engrossing level design and details. Considering this was their only PC Release, it’s both endearing to see Second Sight get a second chance while simultaneously depressing knowing their equally enthralling TimeSplitter’s series remained locked to Old-Gen Consoles for all eternity D:

But let’s get down to basics. Second Sight is a Stealth Action game, how does it play? Surprisingly well! The player can swap between a fixed camera, a third person and even a first person perspective and each one has their pro’s and cons. Third-Person is pretty much the main method of combat while Fixed Camera can help the player navigate larger set-pieces and highlight enemy locations while FPS sadly locks you in place but is fantastic for shooting goons behind some good cover.

Stealth itself is also astonishingly forgiving, allowing the player to try and evade Mook’s once you are spotted instead of going to an instant game over (Which was the style at the time!) so using your power’s to appropriately slip past the fuzz is very invigorating instead of frustrating!

Sadly, Second Sight is… Oh let’s face it, not only is it a bit dated, it’s just not a great port.

While I’m happy to see Second Sight relaunch, it’s pretty bare-bones and requires a bit of third-party bug-fixes and tinkering to get the proper playing experience. Even with that done, the main game has a bevy of problems.

Controls on the fly are incredibly clunky in a jam and while selecting weapons and powers pauses the game it is quite a momentum breaker. This also brings in a notable jarring problem on Normal Difficulty, John is an outright Bullet Sponge against opponents armed with a firearm but is an bonafide glass canon when facing anyone else, this coupled with either brain-dead AI that wouldn’t notice you breakdancing down the hall to being pinpoint assassins who invite Agent 47 over for Poker every Friday at the drop of a hat once a gun is introduced makes the overall difficulty very uneven. Enemy numbers are also just silly, with a near endless wave of armed guards scrambling out of bathrooms and broom closets once you are spotted makings picking off goons a moot point if all your work can be undone once a camera catches a glimpse of your gnarly bum peaking around a corner.

Level design is also pretty funky in places, with some fun and lively animated weapons limited to a single level in some instances while most of them tend to force the player down a single path with only one way of proceeding outside of a few that introduce vents to crawl past obstacles. Not to mention a SERIOUSLY under-utilized Squad Mechanic that coupled with the possessor ability could make for a game of it’s own! A squad-based psychic-action game would be AMAZING.

And yet here I am, recommending this despite all it’s crappy problems.

It’s not just the nostalgia talking, Second Sight has some serious design-chops and a near-timeless art style and a foreboding Main Theme that has stuck with me all these years later. It’s got some problems but all our favorites from the past do.

Either play it raw with low resolution or find yourself a fix. I played with 1600x1200 resolution and had a hell of a time giving Second Sight a Second Chance! ;)

Second Sight is a good game. It's got some age-related jank, most of which fortunately was stuff I could either fix or just acclimate to.

Since it's an older PC title, that inevitably means there's going to be some tech issues, though thankfully some smart folk have made patches to improve or fix various things. I settled for simply applying ThirteenAG's widescreen fix, it leaves the HUD elements pretty small, but they were legible enough that I didn't mind. As for bugs, there were a few but I don't know which were from the patch and which are from the game and/or its age. As always, I'd recommend checking PCGW for potential tweaks and options.

Bugs I had:

    • Frame rate randomly starts tanking until you reboot your PC
    • Bullet decals and footprints were sliding across the walls and floor when moving the camera
    • Cutscenes later into the game had severe audio desync
In Confrontation, the elevators become unusable if you interact with them before getting the key from one of the guards

Now, for the game itself. The story is neat, actually thought it was really cool when I first played through the game.

The game looks decent, and the cutscenes have some nice animation, though it took a short while to get used to the overly cartoony motions of the characters.

Great soundtrack, decent-to-amusing voice acting and some volume balancing issues on the sound side of things.

As for the gameplay, it's good, if a bit easy on Normal difficulty. It's part stealth, part shoot, with controls that were very clearly designed with a controller in mind. It's playable on keyboard and mouse (it's how I played), but you'll be fighting with the camera and aiming a lot.

With a little patching and tweaking, this is still an enjoyable game. I'm glad that they brought this game back on Steam, though I would love to see them actually bring some sort of official patch to make it more readily playable for new owners.

The escort missions can go suck a moldy taint. For real.

this game deserves its a franchise

second sight has some features that no other game has until now,
It has elements that make modern games look bad and still does today in 2022,
it was fun as hell throwing the guards around whit telekinese it was hilarious :D
back in the daysI still wonder why there was never a part two I want this game to get a sequel
it's a shame that nowadays everything only refers to ingame purchases and life service
it's all about multiplayer battle royale just perfect for lifestyle gamers because of the hype

I recommend the game but not the steam version.!
the camera shakes.! something is wrong it feels so shaky and the resolution only goes up to 1280x1024 and if you select that , it will reset to the second highest 1024x768.I tried the gog version and it doesn't have these problems the camera doesn't shake and full hd is working.! straight out of the box with no problems
Second sight on gog

right in the first level when you stand at the glass wall want in the direction of the exit at the edge in the first room where you can move, you immediately notice the bug.. here you can see https://imgur.com/a/WbqqN6P

This is an absolute golden title. I would pay loads for a remastered edition. That being said, even now in 2022, the story and visuals certainly stand up to time. 11/10

Played years ago on gamecube and still amazed how good this game is. Great gameplay from 2005 with a nice story. Second Sight should get his own remake.

No controller support which make the game on keyboard & mouse kind of wack.

Near twenty years old this game... and dose it show? Really? I mean, maybe just a little- but I loved this game as a kid. Maybe even more now. It was the golden age of gaming back then. Graphics maybe rough by today's standards- but just look at what they accomplished! With what they had back then!
What passion and heart when into this game. Such charter and depth to its environments. And the cartoon-y character models aged like a fine wine too. :')
Pure quality over quantity.
10/10.
It has both

Good stealth-lite action game from timesplitters devs, just an untouched bare bones 2005 pc port dumped onto steam

Refused to boot until manually setting res/refresh rate in the config file but it was fine after that, using 3rd party widescreen patch on windows 10 and didn't notice any other major issues.
Wouldn't save my key bindings but its simple enough to use defaults

Stuff like the lock on targeting system, the way the camera always wants to return to center, or controlling the telekinesis using the mouse etc makes this game feel a little dated and awkward using a mouse and keyboard

Everything about second sight feels fully designed for controllers and consoles of that era
You might be better off with dolphin for this one unless you really wanna play with m&kb in widescreen

Buy it and play it on a Playstation 2 if you want it to work correctly. The game really is excellent but has some issues on PC.

If you have a computer from 2006 lying around, it'll probably work awesome on that.

Oh I remember this game! It was one of the three psychic games I had on PS2! The other ones were Psychonauts and Psi-Ops.
Anyhow, this one was great but not particularly good. You played as the typical amnesia guy who spends the game looking for his memories while unlocking psychic powers. You also have a gun so it’s a lot like Psi-Ops without any of the government conspiracy stuff.
Nope, instead, it’s something different you will have to play the game or watch YouTube videos for. No spoilers in Steam reviews.
It’s not Psi-Ops the Mindgate Conspiracy but it’s a decent substitute.

Underrated and forgotten gem this is such a fun game to talk about its always such a positive conversation with a hint of melancholy because of how much it has been forgotten about this is a very solid shooter and a very good port I did have some issues with a lower frame rate than expected but after a chapter or 2 it was solid after that My only real criticism outside of that would be the horrible shooting controls it feels like GTA SA but way worse since its such a smaller game and far more set in enclosed areas but the story and psi abilities were so interesting I couldn't help but finish a playthrough, in conclusion, this is a really good title for sure worth a buy
8/10

Note: I have seen this game get pulled and put back on the steam store page twice now if you are interested I suggest not waiting too long

Certainly lives up to the reputation. Haven't had this much fun in a long time. I did get stuck here and there, so had to refer to guides.. Overall - a really well thought story and game.

Simon & Motherfunkel
Simon & Mo…

It's no competition for Thief or Splinter Cell, but it's certainly much more entertaining than you'd think.

John Vattic wakes up strapped to a bed in some kind of high security medical research facility. He suffers from severe amnesia, doesn't know who he is or how he got there and can't remember anything that has happened during the past six months. As he tries to escape, he discovers that he has gained some sort of psychic powers like telekinesis, healing his body and turning himself invisible. After some time his memory slowly starts to come back and it becomes evident that his current situation is somehow connected to his engagement during a military special ops mission in Siberia half a year ago, that he was part of as a special advisor.
The story of Second Sight starts off rather unimpressive, but over time, i really wanted to know how Vattic ended up in that situation and who or what was behind all of it. The decent narrative definitely surprised me. Unfortunately, the writing and voice-acting is not quite on par with the story the whole time. It is a bit hit-or-miss and constantly changes between cheesy cringe and actually well-written and decently delivered dialogue. Furthermore, the ending seemed a bit rushed and not all plot elements were resolved properly.

The technical apects of this game aren't positively surprising either. It has some quite detailed character models with pretty impressive facial animations for 2005 console standards, but on the other hand very blocky architecture and mushy level textures. Overall the game looks fitting for its time and the visuals match the setting, I guess, even though the whole art-style seems a bit cartoonish, goofy and console-y.
The controls are decent, except for the aiming, which is a very weird mix of manual and auto-aim. You'll get used to it eventually, but for the most part it just doesn't work the way you would want it to.
On a positive note it should be mentioned that the game runs flawlessly (at least on my system), without any necessary steps apart from just installing it. If you don't need modern resolutions, that is. But Second Sight is from 2005 and it will look outdated anyways even in 4K, so why not just play it in 1024x768 and avoid the hassle?

Gameplaywise, Second SIght is a mix between 50% stealth and 50% third-person-shooter. It has two difficulty modes, normal and hard. I haven't tried the latter yet, but on normal difficulty it's piss-easy despite its at times quirky controls and camera. One of the main reasons for this is your overpowered tranquilizer gun, which is more effective than your biggest assault rifle: It has infinite ammo, is extremely accurate and it's "Night Night Time" after one headshot or two bodyshots. During the game you'll get your hands on pistols, SMGs, shotguns, assault- and sniper rifles, all of which are decently powerful, but for the biggest chunk of the game the tranquilizer gun will most likely be your preferred weapon. That thing can even destroy surveillance cameras (O_o), so why bother using loud guns with limited ammo, that most likely will just set off the alarm? Not that the rest of the weapons would be completely usesless. Firefights were more frequent during the second half of the game and especially the sniper rifle comes in handy when you have to get rid of enemy snipers or foes that are too far away for a safe shot with the tranquilizer gun.
In addition, you have the ability to heal yourself at any given time or turn invisible among other things. With those abilities and your efficient weapon arsenal you can wipe out or sneak past whole squads of guards armed to the teeth without any noteworthy problems. Your character can take quite a beating before going down and your Psi-powers fully recharge within seconds. On top, the AI is as stupid as it can get: They don't see anything that's further than 5 metres away from them and when you actually do catch their attention, it's really easy to hide again. Once you did, they give up search within seconds.
Only in the last third I found the game to be mildly challenging, since it clunkily forces you to stay stealthy, given that you don't want to deal with dozens of endlessly respawning enemies rushing you.

When it comes to the various Psi-powers, most of them are not completely useless, but rather unecessary, apart from a few parts where the leveldesign basically dictates you to use them. The exception was the ability to heal yourself, which you'll probably use very frequently. Overall, the most effective and comfortable playstyle for me was to just avoid any attention as far as possible and just knock out everybody with my Super Tranquilizer.

Speaking of leveldesign, it is extremely linear, but still manages to be a bit confusing and inconsistent at times. Some ledges look like you can shimmy along them but you can't and vice versa, some buttons and switches are easy to miss, stuff like that. But in the end, Second Sight gives not much reason for critique. You can't interact with most stuff when you are crouched, which is especially annoying when you want to knock out enemies from behind. And when you are pressed against a wall you can't see sh*t except your character starring back at you, since the camera angle gets extremely close-up. But apart from that and the animation looking really funny when walking down stairs, I don't see any serious points to complain about.

With around 10 hours the game has a quite perfect length. It is not too short, but also not so long that it outstays it's welcome. On the other hand, as a pure singleplayer game, the replay value is rather minimal. You can try the hard mode on a second playthrough but that's basically it. Since the levels and story are so linear, your experience won't differ much from the first time.

Overall, Second Sight is obviously an old game with many flaws, that was definitely made with the control scheme and technical limitations of the respective console generation in mind, which makes it a bit archaic, casual and piss-easy for pc-veterans, especially fans of stealth games like Thief. Nevertheless, I found it to be surprisingly fun and it is a pretty good choice if you need a quick third-person-shooter/stealth fix inbetween.

Interesting and different game and the powers are a joy to use.
Final result, very good, no doubt about it.

But a few caveats:
Control of the camera with K&M is somewhat difficult as the game tries to autotarget, sometimes undecided between 2 foes.
So it will fight you a little when you want to look in another direction or change a target, and you have to try many times, rather unacceptable specially when you are in the very usual combat situations.

Some mediocre voice acting, and some "do this exactly as expected" or you must retry (infinite respawn of foes in alarm situations).

Only finished it because I gave myself infinite health -and sometimes to companions-, psi power, and ammo with cheat engine, but with that personal choice, *very* glad to have played it.

I love this game, it is from my childhood of when I had a PS2, the movement of the mouse is very sensitive so use cautiously within movement however if you had this game when it first came out you would be like me and remove the worst parts of it as coming with a game from that time of age. If you get far in one section of story be careful it does start you to the beginning of the mission and you have to start all over again. There are no glitches in this game and some do have those glitches now so I would give this a 10/10 by my view as a PS2 gamer but now with the video games of today I would give it a 9.1/10.

This game is an absolute masterpiece. It made my childhood great and now, after more than 10 years, I finished it again. Everything about this game is just wonderful, the story is the most unique story you'll ever play. Can't describe this game with words. Play it and you'll see how great this game is.
