"Are you serious?" -Steerly Samuel

Multiplayer doesn't work. We were forced to use cheats to finish the game in most levels. Performed very poorly with even 4 players.

Have played and beaten on console, and can reassure you that this expansion is basically "what if Serious Sam 4 was more tightly-crafted and focused: the game". So yeah, cannot recommend enough. Clears Serious Sam 2, felt I'd throw that out there. Not because Serious Sam 2 is good, just because I wanted to ^^

Standalone expansion from SS4, same engine, same issues, different environment

+Positives+

+The most positive side of this game is skyboxes like any other SS games. They are drawing magic to the sky
+Environment is very nice, passing around Russia, cold climates mostly and thankfully they didnt use Talos Principle assets this time like in SS4
+New weapons and they are amazing
+Gadgets oyyy weyyy. You can use them against hordes. So much fun but they are kinda rare, moslty given to player by secrets
+Secrets like always
+This time, maps are not complicated that much compared to SS4
+Fight zones are mostly wide and open
+I like SS graphics on every game, this one also holds that
+Enemy variants and quantity
+Very cool achievements, no need for second player to get them all. Amazing
+Survival levels are good for extra

-Negatives-

-Garbage prequel story, i dont know how many times more they will do that again and again
-It's short, SS game should be longer even if it's an expansion like
-Areas are mostly wide but in typical SS game it should has some indoor action too, in this game there isn't any narrow area or maybe 1 or 2
-Texture rendering delay. It's bringing textures with huge delay, whenever you look somewhere else and look back to first place its rendering all over again and there is a significiant amount of delay. This is so bad because even on cutscenes you see ultra low resolution textures first, after 2 seconds or so its becoming your preset. I tried everyting like changing api to Vulkan, customizing (maximizing) performance options, using default options, everything. But the results were same. This is a huge problem for everyone
-Tree shadow rendering distance is also crap, it was same on SS4, still same in here
-Like any other SS games it is arcadey (there is no problem here) but ammunation, equipment rate is too much, makes game so easy and boring.. If it forces you to use low-end weapons it would have more enjoyful

Croteam has lost its coders, technical engineers. SS3 was the last great SS title because Croteam had had all of their staff in the team. Now they are trying to do some work but unfortunately it is not like (g)old times

I think my gaming rig is too underpowered for this game. Or there is a bug? I get bad slow down in big lift ride when large enemies join in. I have 16GB ram, Ryzen 5 3600, Radeon RX 580. I have heard of gamers whose rigs can't even play it. That's sad - because this game is SUPER fun!! This game is possibly better than Serious Sam 4. I would like bootable anthrax infested mad cow heads and taliban rocket launcher ala Postal 2. That would be too much fun. No free-roaming in the countryside like Serious Sam 4. Here, they put either impenetrable weeds or minefields to say "Don't waste your time going in this direction. The game is linear in that we haven't populated anything of interest in this direction." I am thankful for that because I did once venture for an hour or so in a useless trek on SS4. Wish I hadn't. Nothing of interest!

Seriously, the BEST SS game since the original. The reason the original is better is that it
was such a novel game, it kicked butt!
Thanks for 9 hours of pure fun!
Going to play again on harder level and see if I can survive!

A better version of serious sam 4, tbh. The battles are massive and fun, the characters are entertaining and the final boss fight was excellent. If you like serious sam, or just retro shooters; you are going to love this. Recommend it greatly.

It's hard to believe that this game is in fact made by modders, cause this game is a fully formed FPS with a badass campaign. Though I never touched Serious Sam 4 due to the complaints of the many that have. I'm glad that, due to the behest of many FPS youtubers, I went ahead and bought/ played through this one.

The tagline for this game should definitely be: "Not your mommy and daddy's FPS," because this game is ridiculous. With a countless array of insanely cool weapons to the dozens of alien models in the game, you will very quickly find yourself overwhelmed by the hordes of hundreds of creatures that will fall at the hands of your Minigun, Laser Rifle, and Cannonball Gun.

On Hard/Serious difficulty the game can get absurd with the amount of things thrown at you. Can't really complain though, because that is what Serious Sam is all about but I would say at certain points it can feel a bit unbearable.

The story itself takes a backseat to the gameplay feeling little more than run of the mill, but that isn't always a bad thing. I love the Soviet/ Metal soundtrack quite a bit as it adds so much to the constant firefights and mood of the Siberian/ Russian setting. Performance can get a bit choppy but when you think about how many things can be on the screen at once, you kind of shut the hell up and just give in to the fun.

Overall a genuinely great time with few things to complain about.

Croteam managed to redeem themselves. At least a little bit. Siberian Mayhem is definitely better than SS4 and in a way resembles the old titles. There are still some mistakes and weird decisions (e.g. where's the classic laser gun). Luckily the story and writing got much better. I still believe there shouldn't be any skill tree or gadgets since it ruins the gameplay. The point of SS always was to learn the rhythm of the fight, enemy patterns and fight hordes of enemies with guns. Where's the fun with using black hole or mini nuke? Some arenas are bit unbalanced and boring. The worst thing for me is the urban environment and setting in Russia. It feels boring, bland and uninspired. Especially in comparison to the amazingly unique and absolutely epic locations SS: FE and SS: SE. I can imagine SS5 - no bullshit skills or gadgets. Every other game have something like that these days. Only focus to classics and fine tune it to perfection - shooting, epic fights and great locations (China, India, Japan can offer many interesting ideas). We could even visit some mystical lands like Shangri La. That could be really fun.

This just had that charm that Serious Sam 4 seemed to lack, i enjoyed SS4 but i enjoyed this a lot more, it felt a lot more like a Serious Sam to me and the side missions and various hidden things were so much fun to find. If SS4 was a bit more like this it would have been a lot better. This just had everything that makes a Serious Sam game great and the final boss was just so cool.

A standalone DLC for Serious Sam 4 made by a team of Russian Serious Sam fans and honestly - it's not that good. Most of the positives about this game are just carried over from Serious Sam 4, and the people who say that the level design is "better than Croteam in SS4" are on crazy juice or just are biased because of all the Russia in the game.
For almost as much as the original game costs you get 5 levels, which are longer than SS4, but kind of feel too long - because you only get like 4 environments with it (an oil plant, a forest, a village, and a city) and trying to make 5 levels feeling like an entire SS game means that like 40% of the game is just "opening segment" with very limited weapons and enemy variety. And anyone criticizing SS4 for some big, but empty levels should be trash-talking this one because they got a lot of that.
You get 2 "new" weapons - the crossbow is just the sniper rifle and the new laser is kind of fun, but it's just a less powerful version of the original laser's alt fire - which is stupidly OP in tight spaces. You also don't get the Devastator and the Auto Shotgun at all.
"New enemies" are a scam. You get fanatics that are even more invinsible from the front and very idiotic stationary towers that kill the pacing. There are also a couple of minor new enemies like octavian grenadiers, the laser pyros, and the hopping frog-dog things that don't introduce anything new, gameplay-wise they're the same as existing enemies. There are also "boss enemies" that are just upgraded versions of regular enemies, which is the least creative design ever. The final boss is kind of cool, but it's like a character action boss in an FPS which means just circle-strafing him and throwing your inventory at him.
The encounter design kind of sucks. A lot of the game is almost DOOM with smaller encounters in tight spaces and two straight-up DOOM arenas with jump-pads and such. That doesn't work in a Sam game. And not counting the overlong sections in OP vehicles (there are two) there are very few massive encounters with huge and interesting hordes. Most of it is corridors which are easily solved by the new laser's OP characteristics. Also, the cluttered design of the arenas constantly gets in the way, ever seen a cannonball bounce off a tree so small it's basically transparent?
The story is summarized as "Russian fanboys write a Serious Sam filler fanfic", full of "boy, Russia sure is stereotypically Russia, but in a cool way", some Russian inside jokes, and a "definitely not a self-insert character".
Overall, it's not horrible, just below average, and not worth its current price. But at least you get some unintentional comedy out of it because all those "Russia stronk memes" aged amazingly.

This game is a lot of fun. I don't understand the opposing opinion from the SS "purists" but the launch was not without technical performance issues. These issues have all be resolved by the developers. If you've enjoyed either the old school SS or SS4, chances are that you'll enjoy this too.

I've been a SSAM junkie for years. Somehow I had missed this release until recently and snapped it right up. I'm actually glad I had missed it for a few months after release. That way I was able to start off playing with the latest patches before even starting so I didn't have to suffer thru early issues. It performed well enough at Medium settings on my 3080 at 1440p. The game was shorter than I had hoped but I enjoyed every moment of the 7 hours it took me to play through.

Yeah, this stand-alone expansion is pretty cool.

Timelock took most of the flaws of the SS4 & addressed them here in this game.
The level design is better by a long shot, the new weapons kick ass, the atmosphere is there & many more improvements are present.
The secrets are also more creative & feel Serious Sam-ish.
It also contains one of the best final bosses I've ever fought in any video game. Finally, a boss that doesn't lazily spam minions, which is rare in Sam games.

It's not perfect, though.
It runs on SS4 engine, which means it carries over the issues, like poor peformance & small hitboxes.
Balancing issues with some fights but nothing too major. They are doable at best.

Recommended but if you disliked SS4, then either get it at a discount or skip it.

Real fun sort of expansion for Serious Sam 4 made by fans of the series, down to a lot of unexpected call backs, elaborate secrets, and a slightly a bit more cruel surprises that would be at home with the older games. The new weapons all rule and allow for a lot more crazy ambushes (especially the burner), and Croteam's contributions in the form of voice actors, cutscenes, and writing make it a really satisfying addition to Serious Sam 4's story. It feels both authentic, and wholly unique due to the extremely talented and ambitious dev team who put this together.

There wasn't a single "in Russia, [X] [Y]s you!" joke though so that's some points off.

No bugs, just, finally, boring. Been a Serious Sam fan since the beginning. I suspect the boredom leading to my "No" vote comes from what was one of the strength's of the series - everything was pretty much the same, you could jump in at any point and never have to worry about catching up. On the other hand, nothing particularly new could be added to the game, though I credit the CroTeam with trying to some small changes that do add a little more entertainment, such as improved characters and throwing in some vehicles. But basically this is the same game as the first one with the same limited types of enemies. For some, and I thought I was one still, this is enough, once more running with Sam. But, no. Ymmv. Otoh, I have not tried this in co-op and I can see where having some friends involved without having to do much thinking could be fun.

Once again, very good gameplay, however the game looks extremely ugly and the cinematics are awful. The voice acting in some places is extremely good and other times you just cringe.

Serious Summary:
This is the best Serious Sam game yet, and a very competent modern shooter to rival the likes of the new Doom and Wolfenstien Games. It maintains Serious Sam's identity while taking lessons from other shooters on the market. Absolutely worth the asking price. I've heard this game has performance issues but it runs very well on my mediocre AMD machine. Easy recommend to fans of classic Serious Sam games and Shooter gamers.

Serious Slaughter:
The moment to moment combat is the best yet in the franchise. It took me a while to warm up to Serious Sprinting but it serves the absolutely huge combat arenas and because of the way Sams enemies work unlike most games it provides a tactical choice as I can choose to do the classic Serious S+M1 or I can sprint if I really need to get out at the cost of not being able to shoot. There is a huge enemy bestiary all of which are easily identifiable and fun to fight with one exception. The Kleer Skeleton makes a return and its in its its identical to it's previous versions though the changes to Sam's arsenal it is much less of a headache. Some weird inclusions are a pseudo glory kill system that doesn't work particularly well and feels out of place with the way the combat encounters are structures. Not enough reward to do a glory kill, they are are difficult to execute without taking damage. The one use powerups are powerful and fun to use exept the one that's just a portable health pack. I like the new artillery strike over the serious bomb.

Serious Shooting:
New to the arsenal is the Grenade Launcher attachment, AK-47, Crossbow, and Ray Gun.
The grenade Launcher is much like the Doom 2016 grenade launcher. It is useful in the early game and can one shot Kleer Skeletons.

The AK-47 is a pleasant surprise and favorite 'Assault Rifle' of any modern shooter. I don't approve of reloading but I can tolerate it for this high powered death machine at least it's the only weapon that reloads. It shoots fast, feels powerful and has a really meaty sound effect. It is useful for killing areal enemies and otherwise is a great all rounder. It also has ADS when not dual wielded. Shows a good sound effect can make me overlook everything I hate about modern shooters.

The Crossbow is absurdly good. can oneshot most enemies with a headshot. Unlike the second encounter sniper, it does the same damage scoped as unscoped.

The Raygun is just awesome. Its like the quake Lightning gun but much more powerful and requires a second to charge before firing. Makes enemies explode on death.

Sam can duel wield now like the new Wolfenstien games. This changes everything. The Super Shotgun benefits tremendously as it can now do high burst damage from firing both at the same gun or alternating fire to increase fire rate vs the Kleer skeletons it one shots. It may be a bit too powerful when combined with the crossbow as anything can be quickly deleted by a few shots to the head.

Serious Scenery:
This game is gorgeous. You're not in Egypt anymore. Its a wonderful change of pace for the franchise and is technically impressive. The visual effects in general are the best yet in the franchise and while a bit behind the curve and janky, I really can't complain. There are a few very welcome chill vehicle sections where you just drive though the countryside and throughout the game the scenery changes from snowy to green.

Serious Sound:
The weapon sounds are nice and punchy. The music is very good as well, and fits the action sequences and the exploration scenes. There is a sequence where you are piloting a mech while a rendition of Rasputin plays. Feels like a typical shooter soundtrack but with a bit of Russian influence. The writing is all over the place. Sam is Sam and plays the part.

Serious Struggle:
The difficulty is well balanced and I have no complaints. Serious difficulty is hard but not completely frustrating like in the classic games. It is equivalent to the doom eternal Nightmare difficulty. One major issue is if you die more than a few times on one checkpoint the game prompts you to turn down the difficulty. It's very annoying to have to click though especially if you are struggling. Its a hard game by design, I know that by choosing Serious difficulty. There has to be a less obtrusive method of reminding the player they can change the difficulty.

If not the best, easily one the best serious sam games that's out there. All the combat is pretty challenging, I found myself stuck for like 20 mins on certain fights but it makes it so much fun. As you progress the game you become stronger, you could carry 2 weapons at the same time or have some crazy tools or power ups that you could use during tough battles. The game itself is lots of fun and if I would easily recommend this game even on full price.

If you enjoyed Serious Sam 4 you should enjoy this. The positive aspects are here. The negative aspects are here.

Pretty level design. Good weapon feedback. Enemies are fun to shoot. The combat is fast paced.
I still think the skill tree is pointless and that all those abilities should just be available to the player.

Again there are alot of secondary characters that are not necessary since they dont add much to the game.

But i enjoyed it.

A return to old school FPS', Serious Sam never disappoints if you're the type with an itchy trigger finger. A nice departure from modern arcade shooters in the sense that health doesn't heal over time, and you have to loot health packs.

Tons of fun, give me more!

While shorter, this game is so much better than 3 and 4. It's not even a competition. The engine is more stable, the performance is better, the bugs are less, the pacing is better, the levels are longer (way longer- 5 levels is enough) and the game is way more replayable. This small team of Russian fans completely blew Croteam out of the water. It plays like a ridiculous fanfic, and it literally is one. But oh my god, you have to play this game. I'd almost recommend skipping 4 altogether. Croteam even backported the fixes this team made to the engine to 4. They should just have these guys make all the games from now on.

Well-made multiplayer cooperative game, that is, designed for family or friends with different skill levels. Why? Because the server allows:
A) Players spring back into action very quickly when they die.
B) The leader can invite newbies and direct them, as the game does not lock the multiplayer campaign behind an hour-long single-player introductory campaign, like FarCry 6.

P.S.: The requirement to complete the single-player campaign should be an option for the party leader, who can decide if they are ready to lead the party from beginner level.

The game has all the problems of Serious Sam 4, from performance to the absurd amount of overpowered things that make any balance impossible. Five levels isn't enough either, but now with survival missions and access to the workshop, lack of content should no longer be a problem.

The level design, especially of the first two levels, has a quality level above Serious Sam 4. The first two levels are very interesting, they have varied situations and battles that remind you of the classic Serious Sam in the way they flow.

The third level is more about exploration, as if it were a small "open world". I'm not a fan of this approach but it works well.

The fourth and fifth levels are the more modern style where you use your overpowered tools to hold line against a bunch of enemies. In my opinion, this is the worst type of level Serious Sam has to offer and unfortunately it's the theme of the last two levels. Still, they aren't bad, they're just more on the braindead side of the action, but they're still fun with good moments.

For fans of Serious Sam, it's another one of these imperfect games that has its charm and moments, so it's recommended. Also, I think it's more recommendable than SS4 for those who aren't a fan of the series and are just looking for an older style FPS.

Ahhh, this is more like it. I think TL Studios fared much better this time around and addressed SS4's weakpoints. For the most part. Here's my impression:

- level design has been improved. Save for one, the issue of being too enormous has been addressed and it makes progression feel right, enemy placements makes more sense.
- heyyy the cutscenes are actually kind of fun now... the animations are still wonky but the dialogue's a step-up. But I think the main highlight is the performance of one Gianni Matragrano, way to nail it, man.
- the battles! SS4's fights were decent overall but this one remembers how it was in the old days. Expect some Serious™ ballbusting!
- the secrets/side quests. definitely way better. you still got your parkour ones but I guess that'll remain as a Sam staple, not a huge deal.
- an actually good final boss??? yeah, it's good! I felt really dumb for dying so many times because I was more focused on aimless circle strafing than reading *patterns*. Let that be your friendly hint!

Y'know, yeah! This one gets a 8.5/10 from me. Timelock Studios really pulled through for Croteam on this one. It tells me that the Sam franchise still has some untapped potential to go along with its simple yet tense formula of cutting down hordes of Mental's army. If you're a Sam fan, I think you'd really appreciate this one and see it as a decided improvement upon the main game before it. Definitely have this in your library.

Great game. It is not too long, as I suspected, but what's there is awesome. Make sure you shoot enough bullets and stuff. Don't die. There were some hitches now and then, mostly while a new part of the map was loading and it only happened a few times in my entire playthrough during combat. Fortunately, the entire game seems to stop when it happens, so I never died because of it or anything. It took me 6.6 hours to complete the game and watch the credits on normal difficulty. Definitely the funnest I've ever had with this franchise, having only played some of the og games in VR some time ago. Highly recommended if you like fast, frenetic shooters with massive hordes of baddies.

SS4 as intended.

Pros:
+ Game kicks off way quicker and never really stops picking up the pace
+ The new AK replacement for the regular AR in base 4 is much appreciated (as even if it functions the same, it has good feedback and ammo is pretty plentiful for it now)
+ Gadgets feel more fun to screw around with now.
+ Most of the levels just have much better flow and pacing to them now.
+ Third level in particular is fucking fantastic and achieves having a big area to explore with optional content that the player can just go past if they want with the land vehicles (something base 4 struggled with multiple times)
+ Overall, the secrets and easter eggs are plentiful and fun for either callbacks (giant Kamikaze) or new stuff
+ Survival mode is appreciated for replayability.
+ Is visually a step up from 4. Eastern European setting works well and the lighting with certain skyboxes are top notch.
+ Majority of the game is Sam alone and quipping to himself. Very much preferred style of humor
+ Music is a bop
+ Chainsaw mech

Cons:
- Last level sort of drags with the enemy encounters
- Could have some performance improvements

Really hope Timelock Studio stays for future SS projects with Croteam. They did a bang up job here.

Rating: 4/10

Although sold as a separate game/standalone this could simply have been a DLC. SS:SM is very short, in fact most of my playtime is just replaying the game to get achievements.
One very welcome change from SS4 is the improved performance. Although my average performance is lower, the game runs much smoother and less stuttery.
Still the game is not even close to utilizing all available hardware. Usually, my GPU and CPU usage is around 30-50% and 40-60% respectively, with dips as low as 10-20 fps (see specs below).

Some of the bugs from SS4 are still present, like stuck enemies, backtracking to find and kill one earlier enemy to progress mission etc.
The good thing is there seems to be less bugs in general compared to SS4. The only new bug I noticed was problems unlocking achievements.
The music is decent, maybe a small step down from SS4, but it fits the setting very well.

Positives:

    • Music is decent
    • Graphics on environment and monsters
    • Gameplay is full of action and fun
    • Enemies are varied and cool

Negatives:

    • Very short
    • Buggy achievements

The game is pretty much the same, just a little more polished and some additional toys, but much shorter than the already short game SS4.
17 Eur/Usd for a "DLC" is a little much for a few hours of fun compared to other full games available (I guess about 60-70% of my playtime is just grinding achievements).

The serious SAM game we didnt expect but we needed,

Another great installment based on Serious Sam 4 , is more like a DLC rather than a stand-alone game as it has only few changes and additional maps.

Pros
-New maps
-New enemies (4 new types if not mistaken)
-Few new weapons
-Classic Sam humor and one liners
-Low price

Cons
-Kind short as game as it took me 6 hours to complete running through and exploring the areas.

I would totaly recomend you to buy it!

Pros
- New weapons. Most of the arsenal in this game is the same as that of Serious Sam 4, but there’s 3 exceptions. The AK and Laser Crossbow, reskins of the M29 AR and Sniper Rifle that work functionally the same, which are a nice visual change, and the Raygun, which replaces the Laser Rifle but works differently to it. The Raygun shoots out a beam that will quickly gib anything it touches, and especially when dual wielded it’s amazing, one of my favourite FPS game weapons.
- Even bigger scale. Many of the battle sequences in the game make those in Serious Sam 4 look like a joke, with impressive numbers of hordes that are great fun to destroy with all the tools of the trade, weapons and gadgets alike.
- Vehicle segments. There are 2 great vehicle segments in the game, one in a tank and one in a chainsaw mech, both are incredibly fun, its great to let off some steam and catch a break from being a vulnerable footsoldier by climbing into vehicles equipped with powerful weaponry and laying waste to the horde.

Cons
- Some poor quality encounters. There are a few sections in the game that put the player in tight corridors without much room for manoeuvrability and then dole out the enemy spam the series is known for, on Serious difficulty these sections can be very tedious and borderline unbeatable without the use of gadgets, Serious Sam games are always at their best when they offer up huge environments and the sections that deviate from doing so really don’t work well.
- Technical problems. I had one area of a level that crashed whenever I died or loaded a save in it, forcing me to complete it in one sitting and delete in saves from it and restart from previous ones, not fun. Performance in some areas was also worse than SS4, with lag spikes when many enemies were on screen, something that was much rarer in 4.
- Wonky pacing. Where Serious Sam 4 had 15 levels which varied in length, this game has only 5 levels that each last around an hour or so, while its great to see huge maps and combat encounters that take the game engine to its limits the levels can feel dragged out when there are no shorter stop gap levels between them to break up the pacing.
- Not all weapons got reworks. Minor thing, but I love that the AR, Sniper and Laser Gun got visual or mechanical changes for this game, and I wish the other weapons had the same treatment rather than being weapons from stock SS4, even if it was only visual reskins. Naybe the Deagle could become a Makarov or Tokarev, the Shotgun a Saiga, etc etc.

Siberian Mayhem feels more like a glorified DLC for Serious Sam 4 than a game in its own right, as a big fan of SS4, someone who saw it as the best game in the series even, that’s just fine, but if you’re looking for a game that iterates more on the Sam formula, you will likely be left wanting. Imagine Serious Sam 4 with some bells and whistles on top, taking a few steps forward and a few steps back, that’s this game.

If you liked Sam 4 or really any of the Serious Sam games this is for you, if you don’t, it’s not. If you never played a Serious Sam game before, start with 4 and then if you like it give this a shot. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t have to, it has to be fun, and it is.

Gotta love a bit of Serious Sam, you haven't lived if you haven't played at least one of the games! This was short but sweet and was stretched out by big open areas holding plenty of secrets and side-missions to do. Loved the weapons as always, some interesting new enemies and a few new gadgets that all together just made for a super crazy fun time honestly!

Switch off and go mental!

The Shool
The Shool

Unpolished, plenty of bugs. This game should cost no more than $10. Unfortunately I paid way too much for a game that keeps crashing and feels very unfinished. It feels like the developers did not care for this one and hope people buy the game only because of the franchise success. I don't get why people would rate such a game positively. I think people are too easily satisfied or blind today. This generation is a shame. This game is trash.

This is the best Serious Sam game since the Second Encounter. It lacks the issues of 2, 3, and patches up issues with 4 while still being Serious Sam 4 DLC. There are 5 missions and each of them take at least 30-40 minutes if you're not exploring, which I highly recommend exploring by the way. I played this in co-op (My friend is new to Serious Sam) and we had a blast exploring every level, laughing the entire time. We played Serious Sam 3 right before this game and my friend instantly said "this is a far better game" and I agree. Serious Sam 3 is decent but gets boring. This game does not.

Siberian Mayhem's level design and encounters are top notch, especially for a newer SS game. The levels are HUGE and exploring around is both fun and rewarding. Side quests are abundant but many secrets and powerful items await in areas off the beaten path, especially in the...third level I think? We spent almost 2 hours snowmobiling around looking for stuff, and stumbling upon TONS of enemies and secrets that many players will never encounter. Like the level design, enemy encounters are well thought out and well paced. They don't feel unfair nor do they feel easy. Now of course this game will feel easy if you've played a lot of First Encounter, Second Encounter, 2 and 3. Those games are MUCH harder, because they trick or trap you. This game rarely traps you. The only time I felt like the game was old Serious Sam hard was during one of the easter eggs at the end of the third level. All I'll say is Dark Souls ;) ;) one of the greatest (and hardest) easter eggs I've seen. Now, a game being easier than its predecessors isn't a bad thing. The encounters are still a blast to play through, but people who come from the older games expecting the same difficulty will be somewhat disappointed.

How's the performance? Other reviews say it's ass and are they right? Yes and no. Performance for me (Ryzen 5 5600G, GTX 1660 Super, 16GB Ram) was great except for certain areas. The first bad performance area was the worst; an abandoned village area where you fight alongside NPCs. My friend's fps dropped as well so I know it's not just me (and he has a better PC), and not just a few random reviewers. Other areas did have frame drops but A) only a few others and B) the first was the worst. I have a decent PC and other than a few areas the game ran beautifully on these game settings: Ultra CPU and both GPU settings on Medium.

Another reviewer said the game is buggy. What bugs? There's something called being unlucky and that's what you are. Your experience turned out buggy, ours never did, apart from Steam disconnections here and there, which are STEAM, NOT THE GAME.

On some other notes, the music is good. That is all on the music. It does its job. The graphics are incredible, especially for a smaller game like this. The environmental variety is a little low. It's all snow, ice, and then dirt/grass for some parts of the game, which are still pretty to be fair, but you aren't getting Super Mario Galaxy levels of environmental variety. As for the guns, they are from Serious Sam 4 but with some new additions. I haven't played much of 4 but I think the grenade launcher attachment for the single shotgun is new in this? Might be wrong. Anyway, the guns are great. Dual wielding is amazing, especially once you unlock heavy weapon dual wielding. It can get a little overpowered but in a game like this, who cares about balance? It's all about fun.

Vehicles make a return in this game and they are...good for the most part. The tank is AMAZING OH MY GOD. THEY NEED TO MAKE A GAME WITH JUST TANKS AND ARMORED VEHICLES. Other vehicles like the atv and snowmobile are a little slippery to where you might flip over, and there is a tractor so 10/10. Additionally, there's an incredible mech suit that you only get to use once. WHYYYYYYY?! You can only use the tank once too outside of survival maps but still, the tank section has you using it longer and in a more open area. The mech is super cool but is a quick section, and there isn't a survival map with the mech in it, unlike the tank.

Review ended on a negative note, but don't let that distract you from the positive. I do believe at the current price the game is worth it. Yes, there are only 5 levels, but each level offers a lot of action and exploration that made my friend say "we gotta replay this one" and I concur. And if you want to spice it up some more, press ` and type cht_bEnableCheats=3 to activate developer cheats, and have a blast trying to crash the game. My friend and I have forced this game to its knees and it would still keep chugging. It took A LOT of spawning and explosions to crash the game, which in my opinion makes the game even better. 100% recommended, especially over other Serious Sam games.

No doubt you've read the exaggerated claims about how much better Siberian Mayhem is to SS4. They are in fact very similar games.

What's ACTUALLY better about Siberian Mayhem:
- Bosses. SS4 relies way too much on big health pool bosses. The SS4 end game boss should have been cool but doesn't work that well.
- Fewer companions. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in the companion hater crowd. But at the end of the day, they are walking turrets in SS4, and don't meaningfully spice up the game.

The Siberian Mayhem maps are fairly good and probably better than the worst SS4 maps, but SS4 also has some great maps, so it would be unfair to call that strictly better in Siberian Mayhem.

This review is written by someone who has enjoyed the Serious Sam experience since The First Encounter released in 2001. I love a good run through the HD remakes when I get the chance and several of my friends will play through the game in co-op when we all have the urge. But I just don't think this particular installment is ready for primetime.

This entry in the Serious Sam catalog is a mere 5 levels and they are really more of a side quest for the events in Serious Sam 4. This would probably have been a better product if it were a $5 to $10 DLC instead. It feels similar in content and style to Jewel of the Nile for Serious Sam 3: BFE. As such, this follow the same newer art style as 3 and 4 as opposed to TFE and TSE. (Let's just continue to pretend that Serious Sam 2 never happened, shall we?) All of this adds up to a game that I feel was a little bit overpriced, though you get a discount if you own Serious Sam 4, as long as that deal doesn't expire. But that's not necessarily enough to warrant a "Not Recommended" review from me.

The performance in the latter half of the game was unacceptable for me. As mentioned, there are 5 levels in this game. The first three played as you would expect, but the performance was horrible for the fourth and fifth levels. The game was constantly stuttering. Some modern games are plagued by micro-stutters due to the modern paradigm of "load in only what you need and only when you need it" causing constant loads to happen in the background. I can accept that to a point, but as an experiment, after multiple battles, I just sat idle. To test. The game wouldn't play for more than ten seconds or so before a "freeze" of up to an entire second. Sounds would continue to play in these periods if I were shooting or if enemies were attacking, but no movement, animations, or music would be playing at all. The computer I play on isn't terrible (AMD 8-core 3.9GHz, 32GB RAM, RTX2070 Super, game installed on a SSD separate from the OS SSD) and I don't have any problems with other games, which is why I'm so critical of the performance here. The experience went from a "Recommended with caveats" to an incredibly unenjoyable experience that I can't recommend in the game's current state.

I'm always a fan of Serious Sam games. They're hectic and irreverent with enough action to keep those of us who grew up with fast-paced shooters like Ultimate Doom happy. But at the current time (Patch 1.03c), I recommend sitting this particular one out. I'd be happy to try again if there are any patches that mention fixing issues that sound like these, but for now, I'll head back to TFE and TSE.

Good 'ol Serious Sam first person shooter action. This new version sticks pretty close to the original, as far as player mechanics goes. I can tell it is not just another map on the same engine, but it it manages to stay true the same classic feel. I believe anyone that enjoyed the original game will enjoy this one.

I finished the game and it shorter than i expected but it still good and it bring some "old memory". I see that the developer has improved the character's animation and movement, it's look smoother the SS4 not great as other games but still acceptable. About the combat: This is what impressed me the most. it gives me a satisfying feeling with the big combat battle.
The only thing that makes me uncomfortable is that the default "speed" of the character is still too fast, making me dizzy when playing.

Because the story is quite short RECOMMEND get this game during the sale. My final rate 7/10

This was better than Serious Sam 3 and 4 combined. Enjoyed it throughly, including the silly secrets and what not!

Only complaint for this game I would have are the performance and optimization problems but in the heat of the game I was too busy to pay any big attention to them.

Considering this started out as a mod, Siberian Mayhem is fantastic. The gameplay is just more Serious Sam in the new engine and with various new weapons as well. The appearance of new vehicles was very much appreciated as well. If you've played Serious Sam, you know what you're getting yourself into. If you haven't and like killing stupid things in large numbers, check this out. It's a different spin on FPS that doesn't take itself too seriously and simultaneously delivers a solid action experience.

Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem is a single player First Person Shooter, and follows on from the events of Serious Sam 4.

Gameplay

• Combat is fast paced and each encounter features a ridiculous number of enemies on screen, which is exactly what you’d expect from a Serious Sam game.

• Huge variety of different enemies with unique attack patterns. Colourful visual design of enemies helps to identify them within the chaos of battle.

• Lots of different weapons and gadgets, almost all of which feel fun to use, including shotgun, assault rifle, minigun, rocket launcher, crossbow, laser rifle, cannonball launcher, time warp, rage serum, hoverboard and more.

• Only took me 8 hours to finish on hard difficulty, which feels short, but at least the game is priced appropriately.

• First two levels are quite tough, mainly because the level design contains lots of small areas where you can get trapped in a dead end. Later the difficulty feels more balanced because the maps have more wide open space so you can actually move around and avoid enemies.

• There’s also a survival mode where you try to stay alive for as long as possible on six maps of endless waves of enemies. Not as fun as it sounds because the maps are too small for the amount of enemies thrown at you.

Story

• Serious Sam games have never been focused on telling a good story, but even by those standards this was poor.

Technical

• I had a strange bug where the game won’t launch through the Steam client. When I click the green play button, nothing happens. I don’t even get an error message. Eventually I was able to get the game working by going to the install folder in file explorer and using the exe file.

• You’re going to need a powerful PC to get good performance. Mine is comfortably above the recommended spec shown on the store page (RTX 3080, i7 12700, 32GB RAM), and while most of the game was fine, I did have some framerate issues on the last level (playing in 1440p).

• Controls are fully rebindable and work well with mouse and keyboard.

Recommendation

If you’re a fan of the Serious Sam games, or single player FPSes in general, you should enjoy Siberian Mayhem.

It's Serious Sam allright. One of the best old school no-nonsense shooters you can get.

Compared to Serious Sam 3 I think this one is better, I haven't played 4 yet so I cannot compare that game.

A fair warning for users with older computers, this game seems to use alot of resources(I have no idea why, because the graphics are not that special). I have tested it on a pretty decent setup and I found the game to be kind of heavy, judging by CPU/GPU usage (it also takes relatively long to load on an SSD.). So take that into consideration.

Other then that, this will be a big recommended.

It's more Serious Sam 4, which is a good thing.

Siberian Mayhem is somewhat of an expansion to SS4, in the sense that it isn't a DLC, but it's a short campaign that follows directly after the events of the previous game and plays mostly the same way, but with some new things.

There are a few new enemies, weapons, gadgets and even some new vehicles, all of which are welcome additions as they're all fun and I hope that these carry over to future Serious Sam games. Sadly, there are no new skills to be unlocked, which leaves the skill tree to still feel bare, like it also did in the previous game.

In an overall sense, Siberian Mayhem is mostly more of the same (in a good way) with a few new additions and bringing somewhat of a conclusion to the story from SS4, while still leaving more story for future games in the franchise.

Easy recommendation for anyone who enjoyed SS4 or just anyone who enjoys oldschool FPS games (but I'd suggest playing SS4 first).

I enjoyed Serious Sam Siberian Mayhem. It looks to use the same engine as Serious Sam 4, so it has some of the same issues with texture popping, but it was somewhat less noticeable in this game than SS4 for some reason. It's a little shorter than SS4 overall, it still feels like a good length game though. The arsenal of weapons is handed out pretty quickly and you get to mow down loads of enemies throughout the whole game. Highly recommended to Serious Sam fans.

I'm a big fan of the First and Second Encounters, so I've to say that this game brought me the same or even more vivid emotions that the mentioned iconic installments of this series.

👉 The gunplay is awesome, I could feel the impact and "the character" of every gun. Also, there are two episodes where you should grab a nice transport and also there's a bonus transport that you may use or may not, up to you.

👉 Each level is different, some of them even have side quests and a bit of puzzles. The amount of secrets is just incredible, I should replay this game once or twice more to find them all, I guess 😃

👉I'm a person born in Eastern Europe so I can appreciate fully what amazing job the devs and artists did with those landscapes, orthodox churches, millions of details, and... cultural references!
👉👉 Egor Ledov, really? 🤣
👉👉 A hut on chicken legs
👉👉 Dialogues about "every Russian knows Serious Sam", lol.
👉👉 A village with country houses ("dacha") that you run through and bring mayhem to.
👉👉 Typical scary-ish living areas ("sleeping manors") somewhere on the outskirts of a small slavic town and many, many other things that are very familiar to me.

👉Last but not least. This is one of these SUPER rare games where you NPC comrades really kick asses and they do it super efficient and merciless 🔥

Conclusion:
🌟 Awesome gameplay
🌟 Great level design
🌟 The perfect overall duration
🌟 Nice balance
🌟 Dozens of cultural references

Summary :
Great Game worth playing and having fun ! In my opinion better then SS4 !

Main Story

Story :
Doesnt really matter, There are literal missions where the objective to head to the south for example. The 4 russian teammates at the end are fun xD Guitar :D

Mechanics :
The shooting feels great. One side note, there is a skill tree which enables more mechanics to use. Dual wield is for example one of them which makes it serious fun having 2 rocket launcher at the same time. New stuff like the hoverboard is great as well.

Level Design/Maps:
Better then SS4 but still a serious same level design. The maps are finally changing, we literally have winter, russia and new enemys which are depend on the map.

Secrets & Easter Eggs
The best that have ever been since the originals. Not easy to find and very rewarding ! Take your time with all secrets & certain 'old school' areas :) Have fun

Phenomenal game, if your into Serious Sam then you'll love it. I will say if you decide to play it on your Steam Deck then you'll need to select options on the title screen and change engine Direct3D 11 for Vulkan. I will suggest you try different settings to see which works best for you. Overall the graphics and gameplay are spot on. The only part I'm not crazy about is driving vehicles, you can opt for walking, I did notice enemies take longer to notice you while driving a vehicle.

As much as I like the game I cannot recommend it due to it's incredibly bad optimisation. At times I've been getting as low as 20fps despite using quite a powerful computer. Although if you can overlook that then I guess the game is good.
