This is one great product for playing movies. Intuitive controls, 180, 360 3D videos supported. I am very happy with this player.

Player is not bad, but unfortunately I cannot recommend it because it has its flaws/things that need fixing (which is normal), but developers have abandoned it, they do not provide support on forums, and not releasing any updates/fixes since september of 2016 (more than a year now). The software without developer support is dead software.

Should be free with all the extra work and downloads requiered just to play videos. Many free alternatives that are just as good.

The interface is pretty straightforward and the various files I tried worked fine.

HOWEVER, there currently is not an option to choose subtitles, or to choose which audio stream to use. This can make the program rather useless for foreign movies/shows.

Didn't play badoinkvr videos. Perhaps with Windows 10 it could handle it. Whirligig should be your video player of choice if you're running Win 7.

The best vr video player out there. It has many perspective settings to accomodate different video sources and perspectives.

Works very well for 180/360 videos. And the controls are perfect for one Vive controller. You can play, pause, skip forward/back with one click.

Playback is mostly smooth when I'm not running anything else on my PC but h265 videos are too choppy to watch.

Only problem I found is that sorting files by date doesn't work. It always shows in alphabetical order. And I wish there were buttons to manually rotate view for those 360 videos that have stuff directly behind.

Awesome. Simple to use. Touch works. Can scale video. Move menus out of the way. Plays everything perfectly. Better than whirligig.

Its an excellent all around video player.Had to laugh looking at the comments one guy said it wouldnt play BadoinkVR videos with win10.I have most of their videos and win10 and this player has zero issue running them.

This program does exactly what it should do with no complication, embellishment or glitches. FAR better than Whirlygig or Virtual Desktop for watching videos or even viewing images. Clear options, decent file selection process. Overall a really great and useful program. This is THE one to get!

Haven't been updated for long time- dev team should continue to add more codecs etc. to ensure the player is capable of playing many formats as possible and hopefully add more features...

Hands down, this is the best VR video player you can get right now. Why? Because it's simple, clean and very easy to use with your Vive controllers. I also own Virtual Desktop and I tested Whirligig, but both have pretty annoying interfaces. Simple VR Video Player offers you a pretty intuitive and super clean UI with fully working motion controls, which is an absolute game-changer in comparison to Virtual Desktop. Browsing through your data is so much better here! You also have a bunch of additional options to improve the video quality or re-adjust some settings for 3D movies - everything relevant is implemented.

So, if you are looking for a super clean and simple VR video player with all relevant settings, then this one here is your way to go. Don't waste your money on Virtual Desktop until they fix the UI flaws and offer more options. If you really need that "desktop feature", then you should try BigScreen (free right now).

It doesnt get any better than this.

Works great much better than any other media player I have tried so far... (I started playing with VR when the DK2 was 1st released).
Play's 30GB Full SBS *.mkv files just fine no glitching on i7 4790K, GTX970, 32GB DDR3

I like it very easy to use interface, lots of options.

I would like to see subtitles and multi audio streams supported aswell (I dont use these features but I am sure there are some that would want these).

So I bought this to watch my 3D Blurays on my Vive headset.

It was looking like a no go, but managed to understand it more as I progressed. In order for my h265 files to play, there is an added option in advanced to change the default library used for the codec. Switched to Directshow and voila!

The user interface is really awesome. Switching the output to 3d (180 or 360 degrees i think?) and then scrolling through your directories is quite intense. Like looking down 20 stories from the top of a building intense. You can hide the controller by the grip, and it fully integrates touch. Played around with the eye offset to make it pop more, but tend to wonder, am i gonna go cross eyed!

The experience was really great once I understood how to switch libraries. Watched "Man of Steel" on what was equivalent to a 30 ft screen and about 15 ft away. My own personbal Imax. I like how you can rotate the screen too so you can really relax and still see the full screen.

The super sampling and Anti alaising really diminish the granular look you get from the headset too. Im running a 6850k with a 1080 and 64 gigs of ram. I had zero issues with any frame drops.

I havnt tried desktop viewer, so I have no comparison to give. Other players on the store for VR are pretty frustrating. Why even make a Windows media player equvalent in a 3d environment that can only display 2d, and with horrible and convuluted menus and controls!

Highly recommend this product if you want to watch 3d Blurays! Seems like they are making consistent and valuable updates for this too.

I could not recommend this software anymore as the developer has abandoned it, meaning no guarantee that it'll work for long. It's currently broken for me and gives me about 0.02 frames per second which is not very comfortable in VR

I think I paid $9.99 for this, long ago. I needed it real bad, ya heard, and the free/old whirligig was, like.... whuuut? It still holds up as a easy to use, but also capable VR video player. I'm not an expert, and 360 video is kinda lame anyways, so I don't know much about the alternatives. There's a chance you might still want this. The Vive player didn't have as many options as this (although I did not test 360 there), and Simple Video Player also allows you to change the media framework. It would probably rule the roost, if it were made free, but I'm not an aficionado. Você é dez anos mayumi não clique.

As bad as whirligig. Couldnt get it to work at all. Couldnt change directories. Waste of money. Neveer used it. Tried to get it to work for 15 mintues and still couldnt figure out the controllers. Is it the trigger, is it the touch pad. None of them do anything. I will ask for my money back. Whoever wrote this needs a new job.

Out of the VR players I've tried this player is the best. Glad I put the money down for it. For 180 and 360 videos being able to adjust tilt, distance, and height is essential. I don't know of other players that do this. Selecting between output methods 2d, 3d, 180, 360 and fisheye is not automatic but is a snap and being it is so easy I prefer it over the other apps I've tried. It just works and works well. Darn good job.

Con: No subtitle support

Note: This doesn't support desktop viewing or online content. Local files only.

It's simple and it works but nowadays there are various free software available both on and outside Steam (e.g. Vive Video) that does the exact same thing and so there's no reason to buy it anymore. I'm still gonna leave a positive review because it did what it claimed to do on the tin during the early days of VR when there was a massive lack of similar apps. Kudos to the devs for filling the gap, and shame on HTC/Valve for not including a video viewer with a device that cost me £769 (that was the price of the vive when I bought it. The price has now been reduced to $500/£500).

It works, but wished I could have had a free trial to test things out before making the purchase. It says that it supports mouse and keyboard. This is true somewhat, but for those like me who only use a headset....... moving the cursor is difficult. It's weird. You have to move your head to the spot along with the mouse then click. Moving the settings window around while adjusting the settings (color, brightness, etc) is slow. It's not for me. Other than that....if plays movies. Yep.

Great video play for 180 and 360 vids with 3D support. Lower CPU usage than others and able to play 4K videos on a Samsung HMD. Should be listed as compatible with Windows Mixed Reality headsets because it is.

The best video player for 180 and 360! Also great for just watching regular 2D movies. I've tried all the others, but found them all frustrating compared to Simple VR. Meh, it was OK until I tried playing 4k vids at which point it either didn't play the video at all or lagged to the point where it was unwatchable. Which is a shame because it does have a good UI.

I wouldn't recommend this product. Mermaid VR is free and plays 4k seemlessly.

I tried all available VR players, but SimpleVR ist just the best for me,
I was a little bit afraid because there were no recent updates,
but there is no need, SimpleVR is just perfect, all even rare options are available.
I never had a crash, even extremely large or newest H.265 videos play fine,
click the arrow below options and select DirectShow in Super Advanced Settings,
but this has to be done in other players too.

The menus are real 3D-stereo and do not interfere with VR-videos,
I mean in other players there are mono-menus which hurts my eyes with stereo-video in background.
SimpleVR-interface-menus can be placed more away or nearer, very useful, I have a small menu open in the corner all the time.

Another thing, I like more color in videos, In SimpleVR you can save video settings (including saturation),
from now on this settings are active by default, no more need to always change settings for new videos.

And there is this unique feature: "Super Enhanced" Mode For Sharper Image Fidelity,
no other player has it, but I can't live without "Super Enhanced", videos look so much better.

SimpleVR-documentation says interface is keyboard and mouse free so you can be completely immersed in VR,
Thank goodness this is not true, there is mouse-support and keyboard-support,
for instance you can use mouse-wheel in file-manager, great, and middle mosue-button recenters video.
Most other players have no mouse or keyboard-support, but I prefer mouse/keyboard, because it is faster and more accurate for me.
After starting SimpleVR, click in SimpleVR-window and mouse/keyboard-input is locked to SimpleVR-window, to release press Escape.
This locking prevents SimpleVR-window from loosing focus (an inactive window would get no more keyboard-input).
keyboard-left/keyboard-right skips forwards/backwards, space pauses/plays.
forwards/backwards/pause is not available on mouse, but I used my mouse-software to define a profile for SimpleVR
in which I redefined scrollwheel-left/scrollwheel-left with keyboard-left/right, and also a special-mouse-button with space for pause.
Now I can view videos only with mouse or keyboard or controller.

I think SimpleVR is totally underestimated or overlooked by people,
give this unique player a chance

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO…

Works fine but no motion stabalization tracks for raw VR180 videos. This is usually taken from the VR180 cameras. For example the Oculus gallery app on the Go runs the VR180 videos very smoothly because it looks at this track. Other than the the app works fine but the scroll menu makes me feel nauseas because it creates a sensation of movement when you have a long list.

There is a red dot that sometimes won't go away (the selection dot) and it shows up even when in the videos. Also sometimes when you right click to pull up new videos it brings on the settings menu over the other menus (some sort of bug)

Also the app doesn't seem to get updated very often. Will update my review if this ever gets added or changed.

I bought this player to play the 5.7k 360 videos recorded on my new Insta360 One X camera. It seems that this application cannot handle anything with that high a resolution. It is able to play other 360 videos downloaded to my hard drive from YouTube, but not if they are 5k. It would have been nice if this application had at least produced an error message saying the resolution of the file was too high or something. But instead, all I got was a blank playback window. I tried video after video with the same result, and so I almost gave up and assumed the player couldn't play anything.

I'm always looking for new VR viewers, for one simple reason. Because none of them seem to have all the features necessary for long term usability. When I saw the reasonable price of Simple VR, I bought it almost immediately. Quickly, it became one of my preferred VR video viewers. Today, I often still find uses for it. The one thing that was missing from the picture was for me to write a review. After having used Simple VR Video Player for quite some time, I have enough info to discuss some of the pros and cons of this little known micro VR utility.

First of all, it's important to mention that Simple VR was released by a very independent developer who seemingly has little or no support structure. That is why anyone who purchases it would be justified to expect very little from their purchase. Compared to Cmoar and Cineveo, Simple VR seems like a skeleton. Both Cmoar and Cineveo, are built with a fair amount of glitz. Both are very robust releases, however not without their share of flaws.

Cineveo, although beautiful to experience and watch movies on, it's cumbersome, and mouse control is thrown in as an afterthought. Cmoar, suffers from some of the same problems to an even greater degree. It has non-existent mouse support, and the click lock support has piss poor compatibility even with Steam VR, much less some of the 3rd party hardware, like Pimax 4k. Cmoar also suffers from an awkward bloom effect that makes videos look more blurry than they should ever be.

Simple VR, although lacking in atmospherics, does an absolutely beautiful job at displaying your videos. It has very easy placement adjustments, aided by outstanding mouse controls. It has extremely accessible sizing controls and even a readily available curved screen effect. The onscreen placement of the 2D, 180 degree, HSBS, and HOU buttons make setting your format an absolute breeze. It also has super simple file navigation that puts Cineveo's frustrating playlist feature to shame.

Now that I've highlighted all the positives, now for the negatives, because despite my glowing endorsement, there are a some things that need improvement. First is the poor selection of custom environments. I would really like to see a lot more. I would also absolutely love to see a feature where we can load our own environments.

Second, the lack of MKV support is ridiculous. Come on, Man! It's 2019! Get it in there!

Third, the complete absence of developer support. It's almost like this is abandonware. I don't know for sure, but the developer just doesn't seem to be doing anything with this. With that said, the biggest shame about this is that we might never see a new version.

Why is that important? Because Simple VR is so damn good! Despite the lack of polish, this is, hands down, the best VR video viewer to date, by a longshot even. I keep trying to load up the competition thinking i might want something flashier. Every time, I go right back to Simple VR, because of the amazing functionality. Please, can we see a new version of this? I would certainly even throw a few more bucks at this if the improvements were released in a DLC. I would rate this at 8/10.

Warhero
Warhero

Theres allot of things that need improvements but this is the best video player if you are trying to watch a 3D movie.

I thought Whirligig had a edge on this with a number of things the 3d environments feel so much better for watching movies and the screen is much more customizable so you can get the perfect viewing experience the problem with whirligig is it has super sampling but it's not as high quality it comes close but simple VR beats it because you can have super sampling at 200% resolution and msaa 8x and image enhancement setting on all of that together needs a beefy PC to run I have a Ryzen 3700x and a rtx 2080 it barely gets over 60 FPS which is fine for movies didnt make me sick at all but with all these settings ticked the 3D has depth and it pops like it does in the cinema and is clear enough to the point where I consider it a good alternative to a 3D TV.

If the dev's make the screen more customizable and add better environments this really would be a perfect app.

Lacks support and works inconsistently. The exe. worked wonderfully for me in the past (after I changed the video player settings) but now, after having to reinstall it, it can’t open half of the videos it used to be able to open, and I haven’t been able to fix it since.

If you’re looking for VR pr0n, just use the video player built into Virtual Desktop, it’ll save you the white hair,

This was one of the best VR Video players......WAS.

Since April 2020, it no longer functions. It seems an update to SteamVR by Steam broke Simple VR Video Player. The app has no support whatsoever, it appears to be ABANDONED BY THE DEVELOPER AND IS NON-FUNCTIONAL. I will update this review when/if the developer fixes the issues.

Note: you can get basic usage back (except for the high quality "enhanced" option in settings - which was the best way to use the app) by going to the games directory and deleting the config.ini file.

Games directory= C:\Users\\AppData\LocalLow\SimpleVR\Simple VR Video Player

This was a very good video player but it's been abandoned by the devs and no longer supports Super enhanced playback mode. Basically if you had the feature enabled, you now have a black screen when loading the application. you need to go in and delete the Config file for this app and then launch it again. If you enable Super Enhanced mode again, your screen will return black and you will need to repeat the step.

I will keep using it because I paid for it but there are some equally good apps on Steam that are FREE so don't bother paying for this one.

An update many months ago broke this app. This was raised in the discussions, and one of the developers initially asked for more info, then stopped responding. Emails to their support team also go unanswered. This broken app needs to be removed from steam. Used to be the best VR player. Now it's the worst. Reason, the developers abandoned it. It is too outdated and even stopped working. Steam should remove any software in where the developer is inactive for say a year and app no longer works.
