Very chill game, but the puzzles aren't by any means simple. Difficulty curve is definitely fine, with some gimmies included to be tutorials on newly-introduced mechanics.

Admittedly fairly short - I got 100% in about 3-ish hours while streaming, but the content itself is strong.

This review is specially made for those who like to get all the achievements and have this game in their backlog (minor spoilers ahead).

Description:
Sinkr is a puzzle game where you control hooks that are used to move square and circular shapes to their respective goal. The game gets increasingly complex as you progress the levels and add new mechanics like “push points” and teleports.

The clean, blueprint-like visuals are a good choice for the kind of game and won’t distract you from the main game elements.

The gameplay and puzzles are simple and the levels are easier than the ones in Sinkr 2 (that I’ve also reviewed). It took me just a fraction of the time (2,8 hours instead of 7) and I also didn’t need to reset or repeat levels as much as I did on the second game of the series.

Achievements:
How many: 10 Achievements.
How much time: Around 2,8 hours.
Game difficulty: Easy. The puzzles are easy and only had to repeat a few levels and most took just a few minutes.
Achievements’ Difficulty: Easy. You only need to finish the main levels to get almost all the achievements. The last one is called “Ping Pong” and that name alone is enough to figure out what you have to do, and you’ll probably get it while playing the game.

Overall opinion:
Sinkr is an interesting puzzle game that looks good but is far shorter and easier than Sinkr 2 and not much of a challenge. Still, I think even casual players can enjoy it.

Pretty simple puzzle game with over 60 different levels.

Can recommend especially on sale when it is under 1€

You can sink hours into this game. The puzzles are easy to understand but hard to master.

SiNKR is a decent little puzzle game.

60 different levels build upon each other to introduce and make use of new elements to solve a puzzle. The player is being familiarized with these new elements in short tutorialesque introductory levels. There is no help to the game per se, instead it focuses on trial and error to get the player to come up with ideas, which for its size works well.

Unfortunately, even though 60 levels may sound like a lot, you can expect an average play time between one and two hours. Levels do scale in difficulty, but personally the longest I had to spend on a single puzzle was around ten minutes. Furthermore, SiNKR doesn't offer much replayability, as there is no incentive to play the same levels again.

Overall, for 0.99 EUR SiNKR is a decent way to spend an hour or two exercising your brain. It might be improved with expansions such as Steam workshop integration, although for its size the usefulness of this idea remains debatable.

A nice minimalistic puzzle game with a relaxing music.
There are 60 levels in total, their difficulty increase smoothly with progress. Every few levels a new mechanics is introduced. The game is not very hard though.

I had a good time with this little game.

I bought SiNKR because I loved Hook and was looking for more of the same. While SiNKR does superficially resemble Hook in the screenshots, the actual gameplay is quite different, and very much its own thing. I enjoyed playing SiNKR, and I completed the game plus all achievements in about two hours. I feel it is worth the small asking price, and I am looking forward to the sequel.

One more thing: I have seen some reviews complaining about the PC controls, but I played SiNKR on a Windows 7 PC and I had no problem with the controls, so I am not sure what those negative reviews are talking about.

This game is a pleasant and relaxing diversion. I experienced little to no frustration while playing. The controls are very intuitive on my touch-screen computer covered in greasy kids' fingerprints. I look forward to the sequel!

    Morlan's shorts:

An innovative puzzle with various degrees of difficulty. Music is relaxing (I just leave it on late hours, hence the count), pleasant to the eye, fairly simple but effective and well made graphics and I didn't encounter any bugs. My only two gripes are that there are some very simple levels (tutorial-like, in fact most are for tutorial reasons but some others that are also quite simple and not of the tutorial) and it's fairly short. There were a few extra (free) levels added at some point which is nice. I think I'll be looking around for the second installment..

Don't waste more time reading lengthy reviews.. time is of the essence!

A very unique puzzle game, it escalades in difficulty that pushes you think a bit harder. When a new mechanic is thrown in, the first few levels with let you test it out and then throw you back into complex puzzle. The graphics are simple and nice. The sound is simplistic and lets you think clearly. A very good puzzle game for a quick play session.

Very short, but excellent puzzle game. Very chill style and atmosphere with easy to understand mechanics that are textlessly taught well through gameplay. Despite its super minimalistic icons for different objects and such, it's actually pretty easy to keep track of all the different mechanics going on, even in the later levels (which can get fairly complicated) which stops it from getting overwhelming.

I do feel like there's a crap-ton more room for more puzzles and mechanics, and while it uses what it has well, the ideas could still be pushed further. If you really want content-for-dollar value, wait until a decent sale or something, but when that time comes around this game is highly recommended.

Pleasant and untaxing, though its literal one-note sound effects clash loudly with its Kevin MacLeod background music. (Please, please hire musicians/foley artists.) It plays just as well with the sound off, so don't let that stop you.

Impressively, SiNKR has in-game configuration options for everything from music and sfx volume, to turning off BG effects, to resolution and framerate. Not only this, but at least the keyboard and mouse/touchscreen control schemes can be switched on the fly, mid-puzzle. (I didn't test a controller.) And for the most part, value and shape are used to differentiate puzzle elements rather than color—I can't say for sure, but I suspect colorblind players won't have any trouble.

There is a commendable level of thoughtfulness with regards to accessibility and usability on display here, and I hope other puzzle game developers are taking notes.

This game is fun and relaxing.
The principle is very easy. You pull and flip hooks and other elements in order to move dots and squares in the right positions. I especially like the possibility to control the game both via mouse and keyboard.

It does not take much time to beat, but it is also rather inexpensive.

Interesting concept, another well made minimalistic puzzle game. The mechanics are well exploited, so if you like these kind of games, this one's worth checking out. It does get somewhat challenging though.

The difficulty curve is a bit messed up, the first 13 levels being at a "tutorial" difficulty, after which the game starts giving you actual puzzles, where the difficulty wobbles up and down between "a tad challenging, a tad too easy".
A little explanation if the circle vs square slots confuses you at first like it did for me: Circles can go in both slots, but Squares can only go in Square slots.

A short game, but several levels are definite brain teasers, especially a couple where you start off with fewer items then required. A well deserved recommendation

Moth Master
Moth Master

Bad news. It's 3:25 am on a Saturday, and your dad wakes you up to go fishing. Great. The worst news? Dear old dad arranged the tackle box in the middle of a bad acid trip and needs help extricating it.

The Good:

    • Excellent level design that provides a nice challenge.
    • Not a lot of hand-holding, especially when it comes to the rules.
    • Worth the base price ($3).
    • Relaxing.

The Neutral:

    • The soundtrack is fine, but there isn't a lot of variety to it.
    • It would be nice if the game had some level of customization for the background.

The Bad:

    • The game is somewhat short (around 2 hours if you take your time).
    • Not much in terms of presentation.

Pro Tips:

    • Sometimes you have to experiment a bit to figure out the rules before you can truly solve a puzzle.
    • Sometimes there are multiple solutions.

SiNKR is a unique puzzle game with a simple concept (drag shapes into holes with hooks) that throws new gimmicks at you as you progress. While the game doesn't really throw any curveballs, it gave me enough to keep the game fresh for the short amount of time that it lasts.

Good game really!
I enjoyed the idea and concepts, and I felt it utilized all of them pretty well. Felt good that I didn't need a guide too
(Really struggled with the portal when I had to multiply things)
It doesn't even feel short because every mechanic is really well introduced then exploited.
Also every movement in the game does a note of piano, so it does a little music while you're solving it, but there's little variation in the notes so at first it's cool but after it gets repetitive.

A nice little puzzle game. I bought it on sale for just over £1 and it kept me busy for ~1.5h. The art style is minimalist and clean, and there are no grinding/frustrating achievements, e.g. solve a puzzle in the fewest clicks.

Good innovation and reasonable difficulty balance(from easy to not so hard). If u are a challenger, pass this one and try Sinkr2 directly. And last, I should say the price is higher than similar games so waiting for discount is better.

It's what you think it is: minimalistic puzzle game. Not particularly hard, but makes you figure things out.

Well done in all aspects:
• clean UI (menu, options, level select) with pleasant aesthetics
• non-distracting ambient music playing in background, piano sound effects for your actions
• touch support, 21:9 support, cloud saves, achievements (if you need any of those)

On the bad side: undo mechanics isn't intuitive, you can only undo last move and not always.

In the vein of hook / klocki.

Thumbs up and thanks for native Linux version.

A simple yet enjoyable little puzzle, one of the many... I wouldn't call them hidden gems but still a enjoyable and easy to understand puzzle game, about making portals and pulling shapes into holes.. Um. I really don't have all that much to say about this game I guess. Its fun and I like it?

fun hook puzzle game

agriba
agriba

Sinkr starts off simple with moving hooks to pull squares and circles to their matches spots and layers in all sorts of mechanics and complexities.

The puzzles designs are interesting mechancially but generally quite easy with literally the last two puzzles the only ones to give me a challenge. Despite this, it was still very enjoyable.

It's about 90 minutes of unique puzzle gamevplay that's relaxing with nice visuals and sound design. The $4 price seems a little high for 90 minutes with no real replay, but it's not excessive.

A pleasant little game that takes about 1-3 hours to beat. I was very satisfied with my experience. My only complaint is that I'm not fond of the portal levels because they give me a headache as I try to predict what would happen spatially.

If you want a minimalist, relaxed, casual puzzle game this get this one! Some of the most enjoyable gaming sessions I has this year happened while playing this game. The premise may seem simple, but it increases in difficulty and introduces clever new mechanics along the way. I cannot wait to play the sequel and I will keep my eye on anything Robert Wahler makes from this point on!

Move round and square blobs into the right holes using hooks, directional launchers and teleporters.

There's a few different mechanics and the game slowly introduces each of them. It's quite relaxing and most levels aren't overly complicated.

Wish there were a bit more levels, but all in all good as it is especially considering its price.

As inexpensive & short puzzle games on Steam go, SiNKR is a winner. It took me about 2 hours to complete all levels. vibratoryblurriness
vibratoryblurriness

Weak recommend, I guess? It's a different kind of puzzle from what I usually see and I appreciate that, and once you get like 20 puzzles in it starts doing stuff that's a little more interesting. I just personally don't find it as satisfying as some of the other minimalist puzzle games I've played on here, and it's kind of annoying when I misclick and have to reset the entire puzzle and do everything all over again because there's only a single undo.

mondsemmel
mondsemmel

This is a genuine puzzle game (in contrast to much of the "casual puzzle" genre on Steam), and a decent one at that. I liked the use portals to duplicate symbols, for instance.

One source of frustration was the atrocious undo functionality. You only get to undo your last action once. Which would be bad enough, except even that doesn't work consistently (presumably you can undo only very specific actions). And any time a symbol moves out of bounds, this triggers an instant level restart which can't be prevented by the undo...

As a result of all that, I had to restart levels far more often than I otherwise would've.

Other than that, a few puzzles have very slight timing elements (e.g. level 53), but fortunately these aren't particularly strict, so I didn't mind.

Overall, I kind of liked SiNKR. For a casual puzzle game, it was definitely decent.

Honestly, I found this puzzle game easy, but that may be my bias. I found it enjoyable to find the correct solution, as most puzzle games offer. I would recommend this game to anyone that wants to ease into the puzzle world, but I would recommend against it for the puzzle masters out there.

To sum up, great game, but I beat it too fast.

I had fun. There were plenty of moments by the end where I was wondering how it could even be possible to reach the end goal, which is the mark of a well designed puzzle if you ask me. Sinkr is the type of puzzle game that runs you through a set of levels, introduces something new and game changing, and then incorporates the new quality into the next set of puzzles. I can definitely recommend this because they keep difficulty at a set pace, keep the game interesting, and offer up insightful conclusions to the many very creative puzzles you will find playing this game.

Trails into the void

PROS: This is a simple puzzle game aiming to challenge while being 'minimalist.' Thankfully, it does succeed. The challenge slowly ramps up as the stages progress, complete with a few simple stages in each chapter to lean one into the new mechanics. It has that simple charm to it, not needing to do much of anything with visuals. There are no big gimmicks, no pulls, the game just lets the player know at the start what to expect.

CONS: Sadly, this carries the problem with so many other puzzle games. It has that feeling that it was once a phone game. Once completed, there is little reason to go back to it. Likewise, the music is soft and comforting, but gets a tad annoying when it's the only thing looping. Still, these are the tried and true, and the usual difficulties of puzzle games, so take this with a grain of salt.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Completing almost all the puzzles will net you the list. The last chapter was added later, and isn't necessary. So long as you look at every puzzle carefully, this will eventually come to you.

FINAL: There are very few faults that can be attributed to SiNKR. What it lacks are the usual missing forte that most puzzle games fail to grasp. What it succeeds in is a charming little title that will keep most busy for a few hours. Worth a look, though if cautious, wait for a price drop.

This is just a simple minimalist puzzler that doesn't require too much of you and is a decent experience overall. It's so basic and very ambient to the point of complete disassociation; it's the video game equivalent of a sensory deprivation tank. I had fun, but it was fun I presume I had because this game transported me to an internal liminal space for an hour. I'm making it out to be a transcendent experience, but the game is really nothing to write home about.

Get this if you receive a discount code from trading cards (like I did) or you like playing puzzle games on par with those achievement farm games disguised as minimalist puzzlers.

NakeySnakey
NakeySnakey

A very creative yet straightforward puzzle game that I personally really enjoyed more than I expected. Especially considering that it has been in my "yet-to-play" list for nearly a year and I only now got to playing it.

There are some challenging puzzles in this game, that when I solved them, it was that proper euphoric eureka moment that I sometimes feel can be so difficult to achieve in some other puzzle games, because you're too tired to celebrate due to you recovering from smashing you're own head against the wall for a solid hour to solve the problem. It feels well deserved

On top of just the fun of the puzzles, there were a lot of different mechanics that worked well in tandem without it being a mystery on what you are capable of doing and what is out of reach. So I personally went through the game without much hassle. Before I became tired of the gimmicks, the credits started to roll.

The game is well worth the price tag. It feels like a complete steal to get this game on sale. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a quick and casual game.

I initially was not sure about this game from the look of it, but once I got in to it I really enjoyed the style and game play of it. The game is short, but in such a way that it feels right. I honestly do feel that a longer game would have felt like it dragged on a bit much. All in all worth the time, and cost, for an enjoyable puzzle experience.
