As of now the game is unplayable, it really needs optimization. Running at 25 fps on low settings with a 1060 / i7 8700K.

This review is for current state of game, if developers start to make some fixes and updates my recommendation can change.
Game was developed for years then abandoned, now after years emerges with new name and new developer. As old game was stuck and unplayable this one is not to far from it. It is slightly more playable but after some amount of turns you get black screen and you need to force close game. I get this game because I purchased old abandoned game race to mars (something like this), but I wold not recommend this game until you hear that game breaking bugs are fixed. Also I don't understand why this game framerate is so bad even on very good computer. It needs optimization.
Game has potential, rest is on developers shoulders

Too many bugs, and to risky for me to stay at this game, after reading the community entrys,
saying this is the same game as a dumped predecessor.
But i must give the developer credits for gifting the owners of the predecessor this new game.

e.g. the investor screen turns one day to just showing "investor 1, investor 2, investor 3" some days later the next day won't ever come. Its blacked out.

I will give it a go if it lefts the early access, and the reviews are not totaly bad as now.

But, it has potential. Don't waste it, make something out of it. And we will see again.

Regarding the bad fps a lot of people mention, i did not have any of them. It worked smooth.

Best Regards,
Jason

No animations for any rockets, no seeing space or where the stuff you're shooting into the sky is going. This is a glorified tech demo comparable to maybe 1/5th of a full game. Can't recommend.

if the devs correct the bugs it will become a very nice game

Game is running quite well for EA. Now in game there are a lot of mechanics and informations which are overwhelming, but on the weekend i will come back to game, because it looks very promising.

Update after 1 year later:

Seems like my fears were justified, the developers produced another unplayable/empty game that's not been updated for months. History repeats itself.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

--- (Original review posted 23/10/19 below)

Buyer beware, before spending your money on this game, make sure to check the forums and the history of their previous game: Race to Mars.

I do not wish for people to spend their money on empty promises, like I did many years ago.

After having Race To Mars and that whole debacle I will say that SCS is already a ton of fun with its fair share of bugs. The developers have been very active and open to receiving bug reports and ideas. The developers have also been watchign my stream while I was playing and showing their support. I would recommend this game to anyone who is familiar with Early Alpha titles and is comfortable with sending in their bug reports, ideas, suggestions, and save files. This game has tons of potential and I cannot wait to see it be fulfilled. For those with lower end systems you will struggle at the main screen with FPS but I have already talked to a couple of the devs and they are already working on a fix.
Good luck have fun!

Edit: Do not buy, this is another Race to Mars. Four months with no updates or announcements, or even trying to use what has been going on this year to excuse themselves. It is following exactly how the developers treated the only other game, which was also not finished, and is pretty much the same as this. A lot of flashy updates for a short time, and then slowly coming to a standstill.

I re installed with every "update" and it seemed like nothing was really changing, so I would uninstall it, and hope that the next update actually was enjoyable. No updates since June of this year, so I am no longer going to be watching this, and write it off as a loss.

Such a shame that they are giving other developers trying early access a bad name.

Before just seeing this as not recommend, please read full text.

This is probably the first review I have written, at least as far as I can remember.

I was one of the people who had purchased the original game, Race to Mars, and as such am going in quite skeptical and with a biased opinion, so keep that in mind reading this.

So far I have only put in about two hours of play time, and will edit as I get more time in.

Being an early access, I do know that some, if not a lot of things, still need to be worked on.

First thing, the main UI for some reason is very bad in the FPS department, I think it was capping around 15-20. I do not have the best computer, but should be able to handle something like that with my setup

AMD fx-6100
EVGA Nvidia GTX-750 Ti
16 GB ram
Windows 7

The graphics look reasonably well.

In the time I was playing, I didn't experience a full black screen like some other reviews stated, but did have a couple times where the screen stayed longer than I would have expected.

I did not experience any game breaking bugs, so that is a plus.

A lot of the things other reviews have stated as being a negative, like no animations for rockets or seeing destinations, and not being fully optimized, is not that big of a negative yet. Regardless of promises made, it is being released as an early access game.

Personally, I am on the fence on whether to recommend or not, but due to the experience of RtM, will be leaning more towards not recommending, at least until it is shown that good progress is being made towards finishing the product. This could easily change to recommending.

Edit 1: forgot to mention, but I did stream the time I was playing at https://mixer.com/noxadari and will be uploading it to https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG5g2PFreWcVcTKXS1Qzosg

Edit 2: looking in the discussions, there was a performance thread posted by the developers. It did fix most of the fps issues in the main screen, but there is still a little bit of jumping.

Edit 3: After the last couple patches, I have noticed an improvement in the fps drops that I had been getting after changing a few settings. There still isn't too much to do for my tastes, but progress is still being made. The devs are also very active in their discord server, though I have gone into lurk mode.

Although I've been struggling at the begining, after a while everything clicked. Sure, there is a room for some improvements in user experience but in general it just works.

The feeling of sending your first rocket to the moon is amazing! You can literally feel like Elon :D

Rodriguez_PL

Start is a bit hard because of amount of information you get from the tutorial but after you get the basics it seems quite interesting.

There is a lot of possible upgrades and game seems to have many micro-management mechanics, I am really looking forward to finding all of them.

There are some techincal issues and minor bugs, but nothing game breaking for now.

Rocket Launch sequence is one of the coolest parts, I hope that there is more control over it in later parts of the game.

Senpirates
Senpirates

I think this game has potential, it was slightly confusing at the start because a lot of information is thrown at the player, but with some time I started to understand how each system worked. I definitely think that the tutorial sections could use a bit of work to make the player experience a bit more straight forward.

If you like simulation games and the idea of managing a space company definitely keep your eyes on this game!

As a buyer of their first game five years ago, I was hoping this game would be like a vast improvement on their attempts so many years ago. You would have thought that given it's now five years later, they would have learned a lot about game development. Ya know, stuff like UI design, gameplay flow, balance, optimization, marketing, community management, etc. Nope! Not these people! It's like they literally just copy and pasted their old code and swapped out their old 3D models for new ones and called it a new game lol. I guess they focused all their attention on how to be a better scammer instead of actually learning how to make a good game. Fuck you guys. You all better start a new company and change your damn names if you really wanna scam people again.

This game shows some potential, but at this stage is a bit buggy. Don't know what it is that keeps me playing but I keep going back even after the dreaded black screen bug. If you enjoy helping to develop games and don't mind the limited graphics, try it, but if you like your games more developed wait for a few updates.

Updated -- New patch fixed the black screen for me. This works quite better.
Really interesting and relaxing game. Quite deep also and nice use of contracts as tutorial. Anyway, the game crashes constantly. Please fix it! It shows great potential and when it works it is nice and interesting, but right now it is unplayable. Wait for patches.

Just looked up their first attempt Race to Mars. Went early access in 2014 and its still in early access. I wish I knew that before purchasing, things don't look good. Still haven't been able to play more than 3 turns before I get stuck in a black screen. At this point in time would not recommend this game.

Simmi
Simmi

Has potential to be great. It however has two bugs that for me have made it unplayable.
1) It crashes on the loading screen at 25% and a save has corrupted and crashes there each time I try to load it.
2) The game crashes to a black screen at any random moment, and you need to reload the game... Where it crashes at 25% loaded.

I would say give this game a couple of months and take another look at it. I do like the gameplay and would love if the launches had a little more life to them, maybe some ground control chatter so that you really feel there.

BlueridgeDoom
BlueridgeDoom

Early access, game concept potential is amazing. Dev team fixed black screen error, game is very addictive. Have to give a modest review since game is still pre-release. Looking forward to seeing how this game turns out. Very fun to play, design rockets, and launch people into space.

Captain Covfefe

Wanted to give this a chance since the game appeared to have several of the gamebreaking bugs patched late October.

As it is from my perspective the game is still not really playable, no new contracts spawned for me and numerous bugs were evident throughout (eg employee salaries will sometimes set to $0 and the employee will quit in disgust, unable to test or repair any components to assemble a rocket, not that it matters because without any contracts you can't actually seem to launch any, of the 6 or so contracts I did have 2 were to send rockets up, one cancelled mysteriously and the other set a date in October 2000 that came and went without any rocket being launched). There doesn't appear to be any way to earn money in the game besides completing contracts and a small amount that can be made if you unlock the ability to sell components and without contracts you slowly go bankrupt.

I did so want this to be a good game and I hope it is one day but as it stands this game is a bad example of what Early Access should be about in my view; that is to say a playable core game that people will pay for to accept a few 'rough around the edges' elements, not a game that is half finished and with major bugs as well as multiple absent core elements. Asking gamers to pay 15 pounds to act as unpaid alpha testers for a game that is not fun to play is just a bit much I'm afraid.

spotastic99
spotastic99

As with all games in early access, the game has a lot of bugs to work out. However, it had a rather complex mechanics system and there is a lot of thought put into the way managing a space company should work. It has a lot of potential, and the devs pay attention to the feedback of players and work quickly to get game-breaking bugs dealt with.

Atkinson_in_Bean
Atkinson_in_Bean

This game has a LONG way to go before its playable. Hardly any of the core game play is there, launching rockets is practically impossible. The only reason I have this game is because of it's predecessor "Race to Mars" which also never left early access. I am going to give the developers a bit more time prior to playing it again.

Spano [TFS]
Spano [TFS]

Unplayable with the bugs. Tried two different playthroughs and got stuck with a bug that makes the "next turn" button impossible to click. I'll wait a while before playing this one again.

Update - 12/20/19 - Three full updates since my first review, and the game is still unplayable and broken. Can't build rockets because all parts are "incompatible" no matter what rocket you're designing. No satellites to be found in order to fulfill contract, no ability to launch anything once you do figure out how to build it. Buttons that do nothing, missing text, and every once in a while something will show up in Aramaic or some old-ass creepy language. And no useful tutorial to explain the nine million different game mechanics. I'm marking this one down as a loss and I'm deleting it. I'm done trying.

pros
a game i long ago got and thought was abandoned got bought and redid/kinda fixed

cons
they did a very poor job on their coding. a good example is on launch day there was a bug that would cause game to black screen all time. instead of promptly fixing it they waited a week..... a week after launch. this means near everyone who bought it refundied in inthat first week as game unplayable then.
while they do do regular updates those updates are very lack luster. a few fixes and unlock something that was already there but they blocked it or coded it wrong so didnt work .

Obadiah
Obadiah

The game was released about 50% done. The updates or patches are minuscule really doing nothing.
There's no game plan except of more patches coming sometime.
They have a very good and complex outline of a game, But they seem incapable of finishing it.
I would follow it for a while but don't BUY it !

Its now Mar 21 2020 and nothing been seriously done to improve this game.
Its now Aug 14 2020 and the game is still broken.
Its now Nov 08 and an update came out and made it worse

Don't waste your money.

Corner Store
Corner Store

Leroy Outlaw

Good lord this is boring and poorly put together. Can't schedule a launch? Can't get contracts to complete? The contracts pay less than the component construction costs. This game just plods along and you bleed money so badly. After a couple hours I wanted to throw my computer out the window after constructing a launch vehicle I couldn't plan to launch it.
Worse still, the interface needs serious help. Mousing over buildings doesn't actually work and there's a serious offset that means the mouse is not directly over the building which you may want to select.

I'm now finding bugs with the finance - at a certain point the game just glitches the income and says I'm going bankrupt the next turn. The Finance screen shows a balance near $700 mil, with a positive income. Yet the game shows I'm going bankrupt in the next turn.

There's no way to turn off the annoying flag pop-up notices. Although they could be useful - they're mostly annoying.

still has a lot of bugs, but they are working on it.

*EDIT FEB 2020*

They are working on it, but it doesn't seem to be improving.

What annoys me is they bring out these occasional updates and put the game on sale to make it look like they are working on it and get more people in. But the updates don't actually make the minimum requirement make it playable.

They even have the nerve to ask people to update their review of the game. So I am.

This is supposed to be a rocket management sim. The reality is you still can not launch rockets. At the moment all you can do is make more money than you know what to do with off interest from the money in your bank account (I guess in that way its not a bad Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos simulator). You can use this money pass time and move along the research tree but that is all pointless if your company is not able to launch a rocket into space!.

Do not buy until you have seen an updated video in the latest release showing someone building the components, testing them, assembling them and launching the rocket. Do not be fooled by the first mission to launch someone else's rocket. That really isn't a worthwhile game.

I will be more than happy to retract this and change my review again if the devs (or anyone else) can satisfactorily explain how to build and launch a rocket in game.

FishTank
FishTank

To many bugs to be enjoyable. Random black screen occasionally when ending turn. All you can do is close the game. Building rockets, sometimes the boxes are hidden behind other screens and impossible to actually finish the build because you can't drag the part to those boxes. EVERY rocket I was able to build, after waiting the turns it requires to build, was missing parts after it was finished and unusable. Problem is, it takes about 2 hours to get to that point and figure it all out. If you know how refunds work, you'll understand.

BigMonkeyMeat
BigMonkeyMeat

Played for 3 hours. Tested components once, wouldn't let me do it again. The blueprint button wouldn't work on my saved rockets. When I saved rockets all the components would be reset...so why should I save it? Had a contract I couldn't complete because I don't have access to large satelites. Need an option to mark all as read in the messages as reading/deleting is taking for ever!
Just reloaded my game this morning, really looking forward to play. Lost ALL my employees, couldn't even go to the recruitment page. Tried to quit the game and it froze. Re loaded again, had the ability to go to recruitment, but had lost all my employees from last night still. Played a few turns and I got the black screen which stayed for a good 5 mins before I crashed out of the game.

I know its early access but its been out 3 months or more...think a lot of this should have been fixed or made better by now which is why I didn't buy the game sooner after reading reviews.

I will be getting a refund :(

I am not going to come out and say its amazing , this game used to be Race to Mars, but I got to give credit. they really are working on it and if progress continues it will certainly be worth a play for those with a niche space interest.

Its a little clanky at current but the content is appearing. its going to be something to invest in at some point.

For those who are nervous stay away for now but keep it on your wishlist and see what happens. for those who want to try and make something of this game, jump on in!

Yup Yup I should have listened but I really wanted this game to be everything that it says it can be. I hope that they do continue work on it and get it working but it should NOT be in early access right now. It is really not very playable and based off of the youtube video's i've seen that discuss the multitude of bugs which I got it, its early access but it doesnt appear that they are being fixed. Again I hope they continue working on it but right now dont waste your money!

This game is definitely still in early stages of development but with that said. This game has so much potential i cant wait for them to finish the game and get all the bugs out. i can get to where im almost able to do manned missions with the research. About 4-6 away and the game starts glitching and i cant see my employees and i keep getting contracts theres no possible way for me to do way before i have the research. This game already has the content of about 5 games in 1 and its still just in ALPHA! If you look at it from the research tree alone, getting to manned missions is only about a quarter of the way through and thats 6 to 8 hours in just to unlock it. If your checking this game out and wondering whether or not its worth it. Even as it is right now in early alpha, YES buy it! Its worth every penny and then some!

I just cant seem to get it up....

But sadly in this situation I don't think a little blue pill will help, I've given it a good go and want to like it i really do. But certain things stop me... Like not being able to just fire rockets into space when I want to, you have to wait for contracts for you to launch your rockets.

There also seems to the inability once you get to medium rockets to be able to add engines or struts because the socket for them appears of screen.

Hopefully in the long run they'll sort these issues out but only time will tell.

In its current state i don't recommend it, but the principle behind it is amazing and it has a strong chance of becoming something good.

Its EA so it has a lot of improvement needed. But it is off to a good start. Not a lot of instructions yet so you have to fumble your way through some parts. Rockets can only be launched by taking a contract, hope that changes. I like the game play and concept and if it continues to get updates this will be a good game.

Ignore all the bad comments. Its EA so lets watch it grow into a full grown game.

Too buggy and unfinished to even warrant Early Access. It was much later that I was browsing older games in my library when I realised this is just a re-badged Race To Mars. Which was also Early Access, before being abandoned.

Instead of continuing work on Race To Mars, it seems they have just re-released the same code with some cosmetic changes so they can collect more money without delivering

Essentially unplayable. The build interface is completely non-intuitive and buggy, the financial interface is nonsensical. Most of the game is just spent clicking on the next box and hitting "Next Turn" a few times until it's time to click another box.

Too bad.. it's such a neat concept, just horribly executed. Go for "Surviving Mars" instead.

Oolong

I gave it a try, just to see if the game is in a better state than from November last year. The deciding point for me whether to keep this game or refund was the launch sequence... You won't imagine what i saw. Hard-coded sequence that has no information about the vehicle. I thought i will get an ultimate pc experience of those lucky guys from mission control, i thought i will hear "Launch director, vehicle go for launch"... How hard can it be?! I think that the management system is nice (from a short glance) and the graphics are okay, but if you (developer) want to sell such a game, here are some tips:
- Make launch exciting...
- Make it full of technical data
- Make sounds of the launch director (you have this go/no go sequence, USE IT!!!)

Such a potential, but made by people not excited by the space programs and not excited by the SpaceX launches (don't even think they watch it with sound).

Please fix these easy design mistakes! This game could be named Some Company Simulator, as it lacks the excitement of rocket launches.

Maybe I am wrong, but i bet i am not. And the reason why is that there is no YouTube videos, reviews since November 2019...

I work in the Aerospace industry so I was enjoying the game until I ran into a major bug....the game hangs when I try to save. I have tried over and over again to save and I get the "Saving..." screen and it just sits there. I have to use task manager to get out of the game. Played for over an hour. This sucks. Without the ability to save, this game is unplayable. I hope that this gets fixed. For now it will sit unplayed. Once they fix this I will recommend.

Update - I decided to try again. Saves seem stable this time, not sure what happened. This game just does not make sense at all. I get a contract to "perform a test on a engine supplied by ..." and I never receive the engine to test! Huh? I build one myself and test it. Nothing.
Contract lost. I unlock "the boat" engine through technology (and the technology after it) but it never shows up in the depot to construct....another contract lost. Wow. I get a contract to send a human into orbit and I have yet to build my first unmanned rocket! I have 52 turns to complete. Another contract lost. Ugh

Game has a bunch of issues still. Money overflows and bankrupts you even if you have a positive cashflow. No real direction as to what to do.

Hiring process is a mess, doesn't tell you want division a person should work in and you end up hiring a bunch and swapping them in and out to figure out.

Hope it improves, Looks like it would be a good alternate to kerbal space program.

Game was last updated 4 months ago and the update introduced a game breaking bug that can be reproduced 100% of the time. You can "play" but will have mysterious income from nowhere that continues to add up until you hit $2bil and then your game ends in bankruptcy.

Developer does not communicate and does not appear to be actively developing the game. The only official updates just continue to say "update coming soon"

This game looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a try. I started a game and everything was working fine until the last week of March 2000. After hitting next turn the screen went black. Shut it down, rebooted and tried again. Upon reaching the last week of March, I thought I'd save it. The "Saving....." notice came up... and stayed up. Game locked again. Getting a game past 12 turns should be pretty basic stuff, even for a game in early access. Not too happy and rest assured I will not be buying any more programs from this company.

11/15/2020: After further play testing, it appears that the above mentioned problems occur only after I restore the game from a save game file. I started a game and didn't save until I was in the "Second Quarter" of 2000. At the end of July I hit next turn and the screen went black. So there must be a problem with the game restoring from a save file.

I tried to like it. I wanted something to be the next step after Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager and not as difficult as Kerbal Space. The game plays something line Buzz, more depth and diversity, but far fewer goals, and nothing is explained very well so its hard to get the flow, not to mention there are still a lot of bugs. Things like moral, research, assembly and production are disjointed and hard to complete. I'm not sure I like the espionage part of the game either, but company security is a must, but i don't see the need or profit in sabotage. I paid $14 and I've spent more for less so I hope it finds a bug free path as I want it to work, but I just can't recommend it. right now.

I decided to give it a try after the "big update" and since it was 30% off, why not. Oh boy bad reviews were right, bugs are everywhere even my very first launch mission bugged out and I had to restart the game. After that it was a mission finished notification that I found no way to close, it kept bugging me for no reason. Everything seems unbalanced, price/time/effort/reward so it feels weird to play.

You are warned that this is not a mature game.. actually.. it is not even ready to be called early access, it is like a weekend project someone put together.

This game is bad and dead. No progress at all from time of release. Very buggy glitchy and not user friendly. Also the devs have 0 understanding of how rockets work in general. Stay away!

This game has many bugs, but still a good game.

The game would be great, but full of bugs. Assembly items are disappearing, so you cannot complete a rocket as parts cannot be purchased or manufactured, even if you had them before. When you accept a contract, it is not clear what needs to be built, so the game is saying very often that you do not have a rocket which fulfills the contract. Eg. put an specific satellite on orbit. You build the rocket with that satellite, but you cannot send it to space at all.

Some graphics are still buggy too. But those are not that much bothering.

I hope there will be improvements, patches coming out soon as in current stage players can feel a bit of waste of time to play the game. Unless they like to struggle more than required by the gameplay.

SHOCK, HORROR, GUESS WHAT:

IT'S ABANDONED

Even after the 'update?', play is still poor. At this rate of development i wonder how long before it gets abandoned and everyone AGAIN gets a 'free copy' of the new replacement game that we promise:
Will release as a full game on time, guaranteed not as a EA.... hmmm sounds familiar.

My advice is do not buy at this time, updates are infrequent and add little to the gameplay. This was supposed to release as a full game on time. What we actually got was a number of delays till release and then a feature lacking EA. Then a promise it was just while some features were to be integrated correctly and EA would just be for a year.
RELEASE DATE: 24 Oct, 2019
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We plan to stay in Early Access for 10-12 months
Here we are much later than a year after, still in EA with little improvement on gameplay.

I have had this on my wish list for a long time, and came back just to check out the progress last week. The reviews made me wary of buying it because they all said there were lack of updates. But there were a few updates within the last few months, which gave me hope. I went ahead and took the plunge and purchased it. Yes, there are bugs, but they are actively working on the game still, it seems. I have had fun so far playing it, but haven't gotten too deep. I think the research tree and building rockets could use improvements. I'll save that for a community post, but overall I like the game and hope it continues to improve!

I really hate to put a negative review on this game. But there has not been an update to the game since January 2021. Not even any hotfixes. Even when we ask on discord we get no answer to anything we ask. I would have to say it has potential but I really would not recommend this game. I basically got this game for free due to having a game called Mission to Mars that was shut down and remade into this game.

The game has very little instructions which makes it basically impossible to actually launch your own rockets.

Do not buy. This is a scam, the game is nowhere half finished and it's been abandoned by his developer for almost a year now. It's unplayable. This type of developer should be banned from Steam.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME!

Look for Race to Mars and read all about what happened to that effort because the exact same situation has occurred here and the end result is that buyers of the game got another dud.

Sure the game is a little further along than RTM but the fate is exactly the same, the lights are still on but nobody is home, save your money and go find a Space game that is complete.

This game is broken as hell. Notifications won't go away after viewing, blocking your view of buildings, mission control is broken, showing only a map and no way to launch your own ship. After building all the complexes, still no way to launch your own rockets. Contracts are broken, you go from sell us components once to manned flights with nothing in between. It claims to offer contract by stage, not one satellite launch mission. Wasn't a bad game when it first came out, but is suck now.

Horrible, Intermarum have continued their Race to Mars antics.
