Game is fun, but recently the multiplayer completely broke and there's no plans to ever fix it.
If the multiplayer is ever fixed, I'll update this review to a positive one.

Game is good. Better with Multiplayer. No one plays it.

The Complex

Very buggy game. Many buttons have issues being clicked and interacted with. The next turn button consistently says I need to select a card if I select a card and then click it without waiting for the full animation to complete. The audio controls are unresponsive. I had hoped that after I first played the game they would get around to patching and fixing this game, but years later and it is still having issues.

Would not recommend, even on sale. There are better games in this genre out there that has better deck mechanics and are better programmed.

Had some great fun with this game, way more than I expected. In essence its a neat little cooperative deckbuilding game. The objective is clear and games last for about the right ammount of time. I imagine that replayability might suffer over time, you'll definately recognize every card after a couple of play throughs. In comparison to the other roles, the scientist seems too heavily focused on support rather than directly impacting progress towards the win condition. Overall, I think the game is a gem. If you're feeling brave the higher difficultly settings will definately pose a challenge.

Extreme dependence of RNG, but otherwise a nice game.

I feel that the charecters should always be able to to their main job, but at twice the cost of having the proper card, and that other characters could to all other jobs at triple cost. As it is, you are losing the game becuase the engineer has misplaced his tools, all the time.

Not sure if I would reccomend it. The more I play it, the less I like it. This is in opposition to Faster Than Light, which I have played for many hours. That game is much more flexible, and less dependent on RNG. In that game you can often plan ahead, and prepare for the challenges. Here, you sail blind into the abyss, and often must chose between two bad options. That makes for an overall dissatisfying experience.

I will vote "No", although I would have voted "Meh" if that option was available.

Gilgoroth

I found this game was far too heavily dependent on luck to be fun, between depending the cards you drew, the events you had. Not much strategy to it. Also had far too much down time between players, so have something to do while you're waiting for your turn. And in the end a very repetitive game. I would not advise playing it.

Fun game to play for a few hours if you grab it on sale. It doesn't take long to have seen what the game mechanics have to offer and then it's mastering them. Like most deck builders it really needs a card expansion.

The RNG can be managed but will at points will just mean time to start again.

A cooperative multiplayer online deckbuilding game? If nothing else, that alone warrants a purchase based upon cleaver creativity!

I've yet to play this in actual multiplayer (for the obvious reasont that this is a niche game I don't have interested friends for), but from what I can tell the devs have put sufficient thought into it, by allowing both your usual online play, alongside asynchronous (aka, save file is sent to the next player after each turn, allowing people in any time zone to play over the course of multiple days if necessary, and allowing you to play multiple matches in parallel).

For Singleplayer, this game was a blast. I like deckbuilding games and this is one with a very interesting thematic twist. And, of course, if you play alone you don't manage one, but all four decks and have to set-up combos etcetc.
Note however, that the game is HARD.
You will see reviews whining about it being too RNG, but it's far from that. Drawing 5 cards from a deck of 20 cards with a lot of action cards to draw more or pick up from discard piles is mild RNG combined with a lot of planning. 'Random' events that can all be countered, avoided, or dealt with are, again, manageable RNG. But figuring out all the different events, the combo's of the various decks to minimize RNG, and the most card-efficient strategys WILL take you several runs.

One issue the game will likely run into, for me, is the shallow content. There's a few dozen cards and planets and events, but I feel like I've already seen all of them. And once the higher difficulties are beaten, that's about it.

That said, the game is priced 10 bucks, so it's definitely worth it's amount of joy, puzzling and content you can expect from it.

Grab it if you like complex, dynamic puzzles, deckbuilding, or want to have fun with 3 friends and watch your truck be blown to pieces every other turn!

I'm an avid card/board-game player and while the concept is interesting, this game easily bored me out after just two games.
Beside that, it's incredibly luck-based with little to no ability to develop effective strategies (I spent most of my time trying to move around to defuse events).
So yeah, it may appeal some players but this definitely isn't for me.
Note: I didn't try the online coop mode so that may be more fun. When my pals are online, I prefer to just Dota myself out or if I really need a card game, I meet them IRL as that's always more fun.

A great game but even after months and months It still has drop out glitch issues and you cant rejoin sessions that are in progress. Therefore the game ultimately still remains a pain in the ass and not worth the time it takes to constantly remake and reload.

This game would be fun, but it's less random than it likes to pretend. Only on my first game did I lose because of something that was my fault, every other time it was because the game actively and repeatedly screwed me over: either locking a door I just opened and needed to get through or discarding the cards I absolutly needed to do something. I even had a game where I had the repair cards I needed to fix the ship 3 times in a row. It is not fun to get 20-30 rounds into a game, just so it can decide to kill you for laughs and then actively prevent you from surviving. Not to mention that if you don't get lucky with cards that let you burn other cards in your first few stops you might as well restart because the number of cards in your decks are quickly going to grow out of control and it's almost impossible to recover.

Space Food Truck is a very good deck building game that requires both luck and skill to succeed.

The deck building actually requires a lot more thought and finesse than most deck builders. It's definitely not just a matter of buying the most expensive card available every turn or using a simple big money strategy. Each member of your party has a unique role to play, and you have to choose cards for their deck accordingly. In addition, the cards you buy will inevitably clog your deck and choke out the person's unique "job" cards, so you have to be very judicious about destroying cards in your deck.

The game itself is kind of similar to FTL. You are in a randoly generated galaxy and there's a lot of luck involved in whether the places you need to visit are close together or inconveniently located, and whether you find the ingredients you need right away or need to meticulously search the whole galaxy for them. Nevertheless, there's no time limit on the game other than your own deck building skill, so you can win even a long, tedious game.

I'm not sure how much replayability this game has because it's really only the locations and random events that change each time, so you can use similar strategies every time you play. We shall see. Nevertheless, I think the game's low price means that it is a buy even if you only place through it two or three times.

I enjoyed this game. It's a deckbuilder, so you need to manage what goes into your deck, what you destroy, etc. It's also a coop survival game, ala Forbidden Island, Pandemic, Flashpoint, etc, though you can play all 4 characters yourself in local play (and this works quite well).

My main complaint is its randomness, and this complaint applies to basically all coop board games (not just their video game equivalents). If you've ever played Forbidden Island etc, you know the pressures can get intense, and a bit of bad luck can take the game from manageable to doomsday pretty easily. Sometimes you lose despite a perfect strategy, because the RNG hates you. I first played on Normal difficulty and got my rear handed to me; Easy was maybe overly easy (and I knew what I was doing by then), and I could probably handle Normal now. I don't know how people beat the hardest difficulties, other than patiently retrying. And probably save scumming (you can, in fact, quit and retry the turn from the start after discovering that a star system is infested with pirates, for example). Though I didn't use save scumming, I wouldn't blame anyone for it in those higher difficulties.

You start to catch on to some good strategies as you play, and despite the randomness, good strategy dominates your playthrough. For example:
* Don't buy all the cards you can afford... being greedy dooms your teammates to buying Leftovers on their turns.
* Sometimes buy a crappy card with the engineer/captain/scientist so the cook can directly buy the food you need.
* Consider traveling before using other cards in your hand, in case you need their power to handle emergencies.
* Always travel to replenish the shop. If you're not traveling when you could, make sure you have a good reason for it.
* Treat the cook as a support character and buy helper cards with him.
* Keep the engineer's hand supplied with repair cards or we're all dead.
* Keep the captain's hand supplies with travel cards or we're all dead.
* Diplomabots are gods living among us.
* Worship the shields and always keep them full, amen.

I also want to point out the humor of the game is charming. Bizarre, endearing art style, fun writing, overall good visuals and sound.

I haven't played multiplayer yet, but I'll see if I can get a group together.

IMO this is a fantastic game for anyone who likes deckbuilding games and/or survival games. The two are combined really well here, and if you have a decent tolerance for some randomness, it's a great way to spend a couple hours.

First and foremost I would not recommend this. I got the game on sale for 2.50 and even then I am unsure if it was worth the price. Allow me to explain

Many a long day ago I wished to play games with my friends. Let me just say.... this is not that game. As for the most understandable issues I had with the game there are several glitches. Cards covering the end turn button preventing you from clicking it to button prompts disappearing altogether. And that's just the short of it. The long of it is I can't picture playing this with my friends. If you want hear the nitty gritty just one last bit to read.

So the game bills itself as a co-operative deck builder for 1-4 players. Sadly there is one character who is op and can clean the trash cards out of their own deck and generally one other players. For the other players the game is much different. Every turn adding a card increases the deck bloat and so sometimes you add bad cards cause nothing better is available. As the game goes on and characters have 30 card decks the plays slow down immensely. A lot of purchased cards have nifty effects but the only way to do character specific actions is with the few character cards you got in the starting 10. By the end game many turns boil down to "I end my turn." and that is even without any bad events spoiling potential plays, I really don't see how I am supposed to convince my friends to play when some of us will get the role of "guy that hits end turn button".

It's frustrating to write a negative review for a game that I had genuinely enjoyed. Unfortunately I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone. I have picked the game up several times since it was released, up until the date of publishing this review. It is still a buggy glitch infested mess. Both in online and local game modes does the game crashes, options when selecting card abilities disappear forcing you to restart, and finally receiving damage for crisis that you DO have the energy to dodge but the broken User Interface does not allow you to do so. It is one thing to lose to RNG which is an acceptable element in a deck builder. It is another to keep losing to game breaking bugs. The most insulting issue for the consumer is that these problems have been present since day one of launch and after years they haven't bothered to fix them. These issues have been reported many times as you can see in the review history, yet no effort has been made to fix an otherwise legitimately good game. Stay away from wasting you're money on this broken game like I did, not even on sale would I recommend this game as is. Beware this publisher in any future titles, not worth putting faith in such an irresponsible company.

There are a lot of things, that I like about the game, like the goofy premise, the art style, the humour... But sadly I don't think it's a good game. There are several problems that make the game more frustrating than enjoyable for me. I never felt like I could build an interesting deck for a character and that's what I want the most out of a deck building game. For a survival game, there is very little strategizing in how to deal with problems.

Had a real fun time in this game. You need to slim your decks, and make sure your crewmembers can use their abilities (general rule is to never move the character out of their room unless you can get them back in there before end of turn).
Some of the crewmembers have a more important role than others wich can make it abit borring in multiplayer games. Would recommend to play 2-3 person COOP, and take control of 1-2 character each. And of course the game is more fun with a friend or two.

------------------------------------------------------------------
There are some bugs. The one I experienced was direct connnected to the slow intreface. Accidently pressing a button to quick, would softlock the game. It's very stupid, and very annoying.
Another thing is that ingredients can stop popping up. I don't know if it's a bug, oversight or "working as intended". We went through every node on the map and still couldn't find the last item.

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
It's very random and unforgiving. It can take some tries to get a game going. With some bad luck you will get all the unfortunate encounters at start and there are very little you can do to get through them.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Easy to learn. It's very basic cardbuilding and it works just like a good cardbuilder should. The mechanic of the game is almost flawless.

On sale, I would fully recommend this title!

- Look at the amount of hours people have played this game before reviewing. That's about "how much" you can get out of the game. I do recommend waiting for a steam sale.
- This game has RNG which is not very friendly towards the player, BUT the game has no turn timer meaning that planning ahead is heavily encouraged.
- There is a standard meta to follow every run (prioritize items for engineer > chef > scientist > pilot) with possible deviations based on specific circumstances. As the difficulty increases the creative freedom decreases.
- There is online multiplayer, apparently. I cannot say much more about it.
- I enjoy playing this the same way I enjoy FTL, although the gameplay is quite different (FTL is combat-focused whereas Space Food Truck is solely about gathering ingredients)
- The game does suffer from a lack of replayability, for that reason the RNG will mess you up very often, prolonging the playtime in an unpleasant way.

I really wish the game had side-quests and varying story-driven sequences to improve replayability, that's my biggest gripe with an otherwise solid game.

Brilliant little 1-4 coop game which makes you think as a team. While it can be fun solo too, i think it's best played among friends to at least have a good laugh since RNG is real and can just kill you outright even if EVERYTHING was going perfectly.

This game is like boring fireworks. It's beautiful but even on easy, it's repetitive and difficult to win.

The amount of time you put into it just to have so many negative events to happen at once, you know there is no way to survive, it's worse than the luck of dice. And that was on easy lol.

I bought four copies, but we've decided our time is best enjoyed elsewhere.

This is a fun card deck building game with a nice setting in space.
Collect the right resources while hopping from planet to planet and encounter hazards and crises.

I enjoyed playing the game and beat it on normal difficulty. It was a joyful ride, constantly under stress because of broken doors and pests.

Minor downsides are the speed of the animations and a not-so-fluid interface.

Overall it is a good game and has it's hilarious moments.

This can be a really fun party game but be warned because it might not gonna be fair to you most of the time (sometimes you will feel as if the game is cheating at you and just throw a barrage of awful crisis one after the other).

This was as surprisingly well spent $3. (I bought a copy for myself and a friend). It's a very weird game -- in a good way. Fly around getting ingredients and trying not to die. Actions and items are controlled by cards you draw, and each of the four characters (Captain, Scientist, Cook, Engineer) has a different draw deck and different 'job cards' for abilities.

Don't know how much this is full-price, but on sale it's a bargain.

FierySnow
FierySnow

This game is far too RNG-heavy.

Random event at the start of each turn? RNG check.
Random cards from docking your ship? RNG check.
Random event from passing by a new planet? RNG check.
And of course, random cards drawn each turn - RNG check.

There's even RNG in your RNG, when a door breaks it could be any of the 4 doors - woe betide you if it's the room you need to rush to!

As another user commented, the difficulties are far from balanced. Playing once each on Easy and Normal, I honestly didn't see much difference in the 2 difficulties. It is far too easy for a chain of even 2 bad-RNG events to topple your entire run, which is especially tilting when you are on your final dish.

If this game ever gets updated again, I would recommend the 'Leftovers' item being more forgiving on easier levels - e.g. on Easy it might give 2power or 1power/$1 per card, to make the stage ACTUALLY easier.

Well... after finally winning the game on the third go around its pretty easy to see why this game has mixed reviews. So lets talk about the good and the bad here.

On the good side, if you like co-op board games like Shadows over Camelot or Aeon's End, this game definitely will definitely strike some positive chords for you. However, where the there is a failing (as other reviews point out) is that while in most co-op games all players can do everything but one person just does it better, in this game most key functions are limited to a specific player. And while there is some thematic logic to the idea that the chef can't repair the ship or the pilot can't perform research, you can also end up in situations where if, say, the ship breaks immediately after the mechanics turn, there isn't anything that can be done about it for three rounds until his turn comes back around again. The other difficult with board game comparison is that Food Truck requires you to add a card to your hand every round, something which I've not need in a board game. While this is actually an interesting difficulty twist to the game, it does make the chefs role critical as he is the only player who can trash until some other, better cards are bought from the market. Ultimately, success in the game requires a dose of micromangement in order to be played effectively. Every player needs at least one high cash card so they can buy good cards and one high energy card so they can both do their job and also deal with certain hazards. So the right players have to buy the right cards and the chef has to know who can trash and who can't so he can help the right player. Given all that needs to be kept track of, I have hard time seeing this played effectively as a co-op.

And then, there is the RNG. Now, there is a review here were somebody defends the RNG saying that the problem is not with the game but with players not thinning their decks. But lets talk about some things that can happen. In one game, I had to move my chef to the bridge to avert a crisis and then the door to the bridge broke, trapping him in there. He can't do his normal job without getting back the kitchen. The mechanic didn't have his wrench, so thats one turn lost. Next time through, the mechanic fixes the door, but then the random event between turns immediately breaks it again. Next turn, no wrench again. So that’s three turns where my chef can't work because he's trapped in the wrong room, not because of poor deck management, but because of RNG. I had another situation where the ship needed repair but the mechanics two wrenches were already in discard and couldn't be drawn. After the shuffle I had other players give their card draw to the mechanic, so he is holding 8 of his 15 cards with enough power to fix the ship, but no wrench. Next turn, when he does draw his wrench, he has no power because we just discarded all of it. This is not bad deck building, this is RNG. Finally, the chef can only cook ingredients that are in his hand or discard pile, but never the draw pile. This means that in order to cook, the ingredient has to appear above one of the two "prepare" card in his deck. For one particular recipe, I went through the deck three times, each time with the ingredient on the bottom of the deck. This is not just bad RNG, but frankly, its bad game design. In some ways, Food Truck reminds of the RNG problems with Slay the Spire. However, the key difference here is that Slay the Spire is fun to play and satisfying when you win, whereas Food Truck feels laborious to play and rather ho-hum when you do win. I can certainly see where if you really enjoy the theme and feel like digging into the strategies needed to win that there is a game here that will appeal to a certain set of players. But personally, the theme alone is not enough to sell me nor do I see much potential for strategic variety here.

Other cons are that the map is needlessly complicated. Paths will criss cross and without arrows or color coding it isn't always clear how to path yourself across the map in the most efficent way. I get that this is trying to emulate a 3D map, but sometimes you have to put readability over realism. The map mouseovers also sometimes take two or three tries to work properly. I have also run into quite a few bugs where cards selected at the wrong time can freeze the game. Fortunately the game autosaves every turn, so restarting isn’t a huge loss, but considering how easy it is to break a 3 year old game, I would have expected a bug fix by now.

For the amount of time spent, I suppose I got my $1.50 out the game (on sale), but I don’t think I would have been happy with my purchase had I paid full price. I’m not sure how likely I am to revisit this again following my first win.

This game is a lot of fun. Got it for a few bucks on sale.

It looks simple, but it is not. It took me 6 games to finally beat it on mild and 3 games to beat it on medium. Now going on for hard and then dragon sweat.

Learn your cards, do a turn over if you did not get everything out of it by quiting the game before going to the next character.

If you like board games, deck building and really using your brains: try this game out!

fun good to play with friends. all 4 classes have something to do and all of them are important (but some later in the game than others). has some bugs that require people to reconnect (easy to do: only takes 5 seconds). worth the $1.50 i paid.

don't bother with the highest difficulty: luck plays a much larger role and winning is almost impossible.

Mainly writing this because I disagree with what the majority of the negative reviews are saying, as someone who cranked out 40 hours of gameplay (split quite evenly between online and offline play) and who completed games on the hardest difficulty level. While I have ideas on what should contribute to a negative review, which will come later in the review, but let's start by tackling the points I disagree with in the negative reviews.

Too much RNG

I believe RNG gets the majority of the blame because a random event occurs at the beginning of every turn, and at every new planet, so it's pretty much in your face all the time.

    • Can certain RNG combos hurt you? Yes, especially early on.
    • Should you expect to win every game? Hell no.
    • Can you do anything to neutralize or mitigate the impact of bad RNG? Absolutely, and in a myriad of ways.

Every decision you make has risk and reward. Building your deck to mitigate the risks for both the short and long terms is the key to survival. If you could nearly guarantee a win just by following a simple formula, that would make for a really boring game. Fortunately, each game is only supposed to last up to two hours, and after 40 hours of playing mostly on Normal and Hard difficulty, I've only really felt like RNGesus hates me once. If you're having trouble dealing with the negative events on a regular basis outside of the expert difficulty, you need to either have a better strategy or choose a lower difficulty level.

Game-breaking bugs

I've seen some reports of the game doing stuff like consuming cards without any effect, but I've never seen those bugs myself. In the event that something like this does happen to you, there is a very simple workaround: reload the save file. The game auto-saves at the beginning of every turn, and an average turn takes well under half a minute to complete if you deduct the time used to make decisions. There shouldn't be any bugs that you can't recover from, so this alone should not be grounds for a negative review.

Very little strategy

Those who say this likely don't know how to play the game. I'm often debating strategy with a friend who has played many of this type of game, and often identifying unnecessary risks and sub-optimal turns when I play with others.

Repetitive

While sometimes you have literally nothing to do on a turn (especially if you don't maintain your decks well) and the number of abilities that you can use on a single turn are limited, each decision you make can have a strong butterfly effect, and some of them definitely will by the end of the game. This game is about having both short- and long-term strategies.

----------

So what did I personally enjoy about the game?

+ Nice asymmetric roles
+ Rewards good coordination between characters
+ Games are easy to finish in one sitting (only important for live online play)
+ Random events keep you on your toes
+ Seeing your long-term plan deliver the goods (both figuratively and literally) is satisfying
+ Good balance of difficulty levels that have some variety (not just scaling one or two numbers)
+ Nice design and artwork for its budget
+ An option for "asynchronous" multiplayer so that you can play with others even when your schedules don't match (I don't intend to use this, but I haven't seen this in other games, so it seems like a nifty feature)

Things I would actually consider negative:

− UI bugs, especially online. There are a lot of race conditions and edge cases that the developers didn't account for, forcing you to reload the save file. Occasionally, the online lobby can fail if you've already played another game in the same instance, forcing you to restart the application.
− Planetary navigation is flawed for two main reasons: the labels often cover the map, and the generation is flawed in that you often come across two planets that appear to be connected but actually are not.
− Somewhat limited number of items. I just feel like there was a missed opportunity to create more dynamics between the items, as the only one that directly synergizes with other items is the Echonium.

Other remarks:
• In live multiplayer, you may have to spend a lot of time waiting for your teammate(s) to complete their turns. This can be a good thing if you have other things to do at the same time, or a bad thing if you don't.
• I got this for $1.50, and I feel like its rating should be in the 80s.

Great game with a friend or two, but the negative event RNG is so ridiculous it's not worth playing at higher difficulties.

Shallow RNG machine.

There is so much RNG and so little actually choice, it is one of those games where you don't so much as play the game as the game plays you.

They also forgot to add a fun factor, I did not experience any joy playing this.

pretty fun little game. winning on hardest difficulty is pretty decent challenge with a distinct learning curve. had lots of fun trying to beat it. "solving" this deckbuilding puzzle takes a few attempts and careful planning of many plays/hands/moves. after watching some letsplay, the normal difficulty was not hard to beat, but stillwas fun for playing the first time. thers also easy mode, for people who never played deckbuilding games before. its single player, unless you have one or more friends to play with (local or online). the async multiplayer is rather dead. the style my look cartoonish, but its really a decent, strategic card game.

The game itself is fun. Unfortunately, it appears to be buggy as fuck; playing it online with friends it kept desynchronising until finally it stopped allowing any of us to rejoin.

So on average. I don't feel I can recommend it unfortunately.

The art is cute, the humor is family friendly, the co-op is innovative, and the mechanics are easy to learn while still allowing for a surprising amount of depth in strategy. I really wanted to like this game. Unfortunately, there's just too much RNG for it to be fun for me. It's very possible to be hit by a devastating combo of random events in the first few turns before there's any possibility that you could have built up the required resources to counteract them. I'm not at all opposed to difficulty that forces me to come up with new strategies, but I don't find truly unwinnable scenarios to be an entertaining form of difficulty, especially when they typically appear in the form of forcing you to start a new game 3-4 turns in.

One of the properly done tabletop mechanics on digital. Space Food Truck is a deck building game where you start out with a simple deck and work your way up to a powerful build. The twist though is random challenges are thrown as you travel the galaxy that keep your deck building turns interesting every time, from trying to coordinate team members to just outright blasting your way through. There's an automatic glut build up though that if you don't build around it such as culling cards or focusing on really powerful cards, you'll soon find a deck filled with bad timings and bad options. But if you do find that balance, you'll find a funny and enjoyable story at such a wonderful and sweet sweet price. A must for any tabletop gamer looking for a digital fix.

Cutscenes are extremely repetitive and a waste of time after the first couple watches. In-game effects and sounds are also repetitive. Why do we need to listen to ships shooting a planet 5 minutes. The design of the game is thoughtful, but the execution is lacking. Also, in online play, there are bugs that can only be fixed by leaving and rejoining the game.

Helpful critique: Let players go in any order, be able to mute certain in-game sounds, and skip scenes that say you've returned to a planet (especially after getting wormholed across the entire galaxy), more cards that optimize decks.

This game is a lot of fun epecially when you play on the harder difficulties, if you want to play through all in one session it might take a while so set some time aside if you want to do that. overall good game difficult challenge really fun.

DragonElderX9

A space-themed deck-building roguelike. It's a fairly simple concept that has some intermediate strategy to it. You have a crew of four, each with a deck, and the decks get bigger over time which forces you to not lollygag. You fly through space trying to collect ingredients and cook food for different star systems. I've played co-op with friends and there are a few crashes but it's easy enough to reload an autosave. It's a good challenge as we haven't even beat it on normal difficulty yet!

Game is very hard. To use a cliche; 5 minutes to learn and a lifetime to master. The replayability is very high also with random recipes, locations and maps being generated every time.

I predict I will be playing this game for years.

To many bugs to recommend. Suddenly I can't choose cards, I can't look at someones hand to see what they have without the game breaking. I select something and I can't cancel it but I also can't look at what can be done with it. Lots of quality of life stuff to make the game better that aren't in there. At one point my crew and I were playing two separate instances of the game. One where a recipe was complete and one where it wasn't. How the hell does that happen? Entertaining but I cannot forgive the bug issues.

Expected a fun mix of Dominon and FTL with some CO-OP like Pandemic. Instead, got an exercise in frustration. Plays like Pandemic in that basically everyone knows what everyone else has, but even on the 2nd easiest difficulty, it becomes an exercise in RNG and random damage mitigation. The 'forced buy' mechanic seems like a good idea, but ends up diluting the crap out of your deck. Gameplay loop just feels unsatisfying. There's a good game buried underneath here somewhere, but the basic gameplay loop is unfun.

I regret buying this, but hey at least it was on sale.

Really have to think about this one. Been playing for 5 hours and I still have not won one game. Come close though. It is one of those games that makes you keep coming back for one more try. Can get a bit frustrating as you try to thin down the decks to get the optimum cards. However, that is part of the strategy. If you have the patience and like deck builders, then this one is for you.

This was a great little deckbuilding style board game. I played it 2 player local coop with each controlling 2 characters. And I think that is probably the best way to play actually. If you did 4 player, it might be a little boring when you have nothing to do but give a card to another player on your turn. I don't feel like there is a ton of replayability here. we beat it on normal on the 3rd attempt and probably saw most of the encounters, though I'm sure we missed some too.

I would recommend not reading any sort of strategy related posts before going into it. Even some of the other reviews tread a little close to spoiling the fun. I will say, a lot of the negative reviewers simply don't seem to get the game. If you made the changes they propose, like eliminating being forced to add a card each turn, there would be no game here. I wish there was more to it, but what it is is a really nicely put together package and I hope the creator has more stuff to come.

Fun local and online digital boardgame with hot seat, multiple players can play with the same machine.
Other than remote play missing, it does not seem to be updated very often, which is a shame.

I wanted to like this game, but the multiplayer freezes and lack of play-testing of the card game mechanic means that now that my friends and I have won once on easy, we'll probably never play again. It was worth $1.50 during the Steam sale, but its lack of polish is a shame.

Pros: Great artwork, theme, and humour throughout

Cons: Every 20 minutes on average, the multiplayer seemed to freeze for someone, meaning we all had to exit the game and reload the autosave. The card game mechanic has very little bad luck mitigation (especially before endgame), meaning a couple bad hands can ruin a few hours of game play. These issues would be so easy to solve (such as with an option to carry over un-played cards from hand to hand, or the ability to discard 3 cards to draw from the discard, for example) that they highlight a lack of play testing or lack of awareness of common card game flaws and work arounds.

If the developers ever come back and fix these issues, this could be a real gem.

Legendary! This had been on my wishlist for a year or two - awaiting the free time to "clean out" the deck-builder genre on steam.
The recent "Human Malware" issue meant that I had plenty of spare time to finally buy them all. This game is up there with my top-favourite deck-builder games. The great price just makes it even better.

If you are new to the genre, watch a youtube video or 2 first... but being turn-based means that there is no pressure while playing anyways... truly a relaxing game with just enough action to keep you thinking.

Easy mode is easy.
Medium took me 2x 6-hour runs before I could complete it...
It only gets harder from there

Online is still strong, too.

Great Value for money!

SFT suffers when a classic blunder in game design: Making survival based entirely around RNG. Almost every single event card either damages a system or directly forces you to discard most of your hand or take damage. It feels like Talisman or Dreadfleet where the event deck is the final boss of the game. I played this game when it came out and was kind of frustrated, then I came back to it and it was almost unplayable in medium difficulty because of how frequently we were drawing bad events.

If you only drawed one event per round like typical games, this would be no big issue. but you have the chance of drawing a new card that deals ongoing damage every single players turn. Drawing cards is random, the items you are offered is mostly random, and the prices of cards are so borked that you can't really win this game unless you play it a few times. Contrast this to what the game is trying to be: Sentinels of the Multiverse. The game can rapidly beat you up, and you won't always win, but you can actually beat the game without playing a "tryhard" combination of heroes. In this game, you have to intricatly understand how deck building games work just to survive. It's simply not what people are looking for in a party game.

Multiplayer appears to be broken. Game desyncs almost immediately so that cards shown aren't what you or your team mates actually have and they are not shown in the proper locations. Quitting and rejoining the game doesn't seem to help, if you even manage to rejoin the match, which you usually are not able to.

Remote play might solve a few of these issues but the game does not support it. There isn't any controller support for the game either so couch co-op is out too.

All in all this is a multiplayer team card game that completely and utterly fails in the multiplayer department.

Do not buy this unless you are happy to play by yourself, in which case I think the game would be fine.

Space Food Truck is a cooperative deck-builder featuring a motley crew exploring the cosmos in search of alien ingredients to cook and deliver to distant planets. Can you serve your intergalactic delicacies before asteroids, rips in space-time, and other sci-fi hazards tear your ship apart? There's the kernel of a good game here but uneven gameplay robs SFT of its full potential.

PROS:

* Mechanics - Many of the core mechanics are strong: each player has unique and differentiated abilities that are essential for success. Cards can be used for multiple purposes (for their abilities, to purchase better cards, or to power other cards), creating interesting strategic choices.

* Humor - Planet, item, and ingredient descriptions are clever and filled with cheeky sci-fi references. The cartoonish art design reinforces the light-hearted theme.

CONS:

* Pacing - One experience that makes a great game so satisfying is the sense that you become more powerful over time and are able to persevere through bigger and bigger challenges. In Space Food Truck the challenges stay more or less the same. Instead the difficulty increases because your most powerful cards (job cards) become diluted by other cards that are added to your deck after each turn. This creates a disappointing tendency for the mid to late game to drag as you are able to do less and less with each turn. The endgame, rather than feeling a sense of growing intensity and accomplishment, feels like a stale exercise in waiting through a series of empty turns for the right cards to be drawn.

* Asynchron-ish multiplayer - The "asynchronous" multiplayer feels like an afterthought. All players must begin a new game at the same time - an annoyance if you're trying to connect with friends in other time zones. If at any point you log off and return the game later there is no way to view what happened on the turns you missed which can lead to some head-scratching ("How did we lose all our shields in three turns?" or "What happened that we are now on the other side of the galaxy?"). And if the game is won while you're offline, you'll receive no victory message or other acknowledgement.

* Bugs - There were several times when the game froze up and needed to be restarted. Fortunately the game saves after each turn so there was no progress lost, it was just a nuisance.

Bad Doggie

The gameplay is often leaves you helpless with draws of all actions cards in your hand with no resource cards to play for the actions, and follows up with all-of-your-resources-you-don't-have-anyway-because-of-draws-or-die events, so building up decks doesn't help you much - you either find out how to game the game into giving you easier events or pray to RNG gods.
Initially brought this to play with a friend, but we are both annoyed with the mechanics and don't want to play it anymore.

Really not worth it.
The idea of coop deck building card game in a funny environement was kinda interesting though but as soon as you understand the few tricks of the game it becomes very quickly repetitive and boring.
It's well done though, so it's a shame for all the efforts made.
Also there is not so much interaction between players.
One example was the scientist that researchs stuff and once he's done... well, the game's interest falls.

Pros
- Nice
- 4 very different characters to play (card deck different and interactions)
- System of card deck interesting
- Free navigation in the galaxy

Cons
- Can be long to finish for no good reason
- Difficult at first then suddenly too easy and boring
- intercations between players somehow limited

THIS GAME IS SH*T

So the game has a decent concept. Make food, rogue like r&g. Handle it and get your job done.

HOWEVER the execution of this is GARBAGE!

First of all every turn there is only 1 possible positive event. EVERYTHING ELSE IS NEGATIVE. From reducing your draw pile, to closing pathways, to taking damage. Sometimes r&g just gives you 5 turns in a row of bad events and there was pretty much nothing you could do about it.

Next up, the pathing for where you need to go is wonky. I had TWO games in a row decide to put the 1st delivery spot on it's own solo path. This would be fine if there was not a WORMHOLE before the goal randomly launching me into a separate part of the map. Generally on the other side. Game is pretty much done at this point. I have never found a way to get back before I die.

Have I mentioned THIS GAME IS SH!T yet? Next up, the card draw system which takes the cards you have and assigns a cash amount to it. If you don't have the cash to get a card, you have to take leftovers which is the second worst card in the game. There is no skipping this. Another dumb design idea meant only to punish you.

Eventually even if you play the game right, you will most likely be unable to keep up with all the damage.

Might as well go play Dark Souls because you can at least learn that game eventually.

I really enjoy playing this game by myself and with my buddies. It is quick and always fresh and hard. I have only one real complaint -- It seems to be buggie when it comes to people playing together over the internet. To much resetting and going back into the game. I've looked into it and I hope I find the problem. I still love it

I absolutely love this quirky, humorous and incredibly unforgiving game! Not because I'm a glutton for pun-ishment, but because the atmosphere is really breathtaking. All right, enough with the bad puns, let's get serious here. The *feel* of the game really comes through: the music, the graphics, the characters, the story, everything feels really cohesive and applies a kind of lighthearted, amusing touch to the perilous journey you're about to take. It ain't easy being a newcomer in the intergalactic culinary industry, and you'll have worse things chasing you across the galaxy than an angry executive chef! This is one of those rare games where I'll actually have a good time playing despite struggling against the unfair RNG, and coming from me, that's really saying something.

Still waiting to beat the game on Dragon Sweat difficulty in multiplayer.

10/10 would die a happy Chef again :)

I really liked this game. I thought it was punishing, but in a good way. However, for the past few weeks this game has been absolutely unplayable. Online play keeps getting out of sync and players have to relog in. Sometimes, we don't even see the same cards in our hands! It doesn't get any better with only two players either. If this ever gets fixed, I'll be overjoyed to get murdered by asteroids again - all for the sake of yummy galactic food :)

It does not matter how good you think you are at the game, the random events will eventually topple you over. Half the games I played I went from full health to 0 before I had time to do anything and was stun locked into survival until I was overwhelmed with negative events one right after the other. You need an insane amount of luck to win and not much else.
