Stacklands is a village builder where you stack cards to collect food, build structures, and fight creatures. 🃏 For example, dragging a Villager card on top of a Berry Bush card will spawn Berry cards which the villagers can eat to survive. 🃏 Play your cards right and expand your village!

Intuitive design, you can pick it up and play without the need for tutorials. At the same time can be very deep and complex.

Brilliant management game.

I was totally engaged the entire time and managed to 100% it in under four hours. The time flew by in one sitting.

Wonderful quick indie game to try and play around with. It's a resource management game with decent pacing. The replayability is also quite nice as long as you don't do recipes from memory after wiping your save.

Very interesting and fun to pick up. I'm generally a fan of this developer at this point and I appreciate that the games are really reasonably sized. It's nice to be able to pick up a game, enjoy it for a few days, and know I played it to it's fullest. Thanks for making fun games!

DISCLAIMER: I played exclusively on steamdeck.

Stacklands is an interesting concept, the early game was very engaging. Puzzle-like; trying to survive. I really enjoyed the "cardpacks" and figuring out the main resource loops. Once you have figured out the basics of the main loop, the midgame can drag on a bit. The "endgame" is a decently satisfying payoff to doing well in the midgame.

The touch screen didn't work well on the steamdeck to move cards around, the basic controller scheme was fine, although felt like it was slower then what I imagine a mouse and keyboard could do.

Overall 8/10.

Honestly one of the best games I've played this year. Well balanced and polished, clever and charming - completely up my alley. Had me hooked for 14 hours straight!

Dr. Peter Venkman

While the idea is cool, the implementation is incredibly obnoxious, with cards just being pushed around with wonky physics. I understand it is to give a sense of urgency and stress of managing a settlement, but from a gameplay perspective, it is incredibly obnoxious and 1 hour in I honestly have no pull to keep playing.

BLUF: I picked Stacklands up on sale and got my money's worth out of it. It isn't a very complex game; however, it is satisfying.
This game held up its side of the bargain. I paid some money and I was entertained for the day. It won't be a game that will stay forever in my playlist, but it does scratch that itch when I want to turn-off my brain and just enjoy. The music wasn't annoying. The graphics are clear and easy to understand. The ability to set it up for challenges or just for existing lets me decide how much energy I wanted to invest. Do I really feel like fighting Slimes, Goblins, or Demons or do I just want to see what all I can build and create with the card combinations?
Minor quibble: Like many games, once you figure out how to get things successfully running it can become dull.

sidphium

I was worried this game was gonna be a super quick playthrough and not be worth the money, but it's actually the opposite! The achievements are super easy but take at least a few hours of playing and trial and error to finish, and the game has plenty more content to discover long after you've 100% it - super worth it

Jadinder

It is a fun resource management game that makes plenty of satisfying popping with its production. The combat is limited, but still an essential part of the game making a good balance of military and economy essential. Overall this game is very enjoyable to someone wanting to organize a good production line of resources while also managing storage capacity of a colony. I would recommend this game to players wanting to play civilization building games.

I'm not going to state all the gameplay mechanics so if you don't know them look at the first trailer that shows up on the Store Page.

The game has a great art style with it going for a hand drawn esc. look that looks like a kid made there own card game from scratch. The game is kind of simple with your people doing simple tasks like picking berries or mining rocks (I guess that's simple that in the way that I'm at the start of the game still). You simply just have to place a card onto another and it does its thing.

Another good feature is the implementation of Steam Trading cards. Say one of your people die. Here you go! A trading card of a Corpse! Okay yeah, it may be weird to look in your Steam inventory and just see corpses lying around or to be opening a booster pack to try and get a corpse so you can craft a badge of the Devil but I like it that way.

Awful tutorial/rng system.
How do you grow a berry bush?
Well you need an rng item from the first pack that you can buy.
The game doesn't tell you that, neither what items the first pack can actually have.
After pulling the same items 5 times of said pack I just assumed these are all the things that pack includes.
That left me fiddling with the few items that I did have and every possible combination of stacking them together

I did look it up before writing this review but that was a horrible first impression.
Its not fun to figure stuff out if the game doesn't give you the tools to do so nor the impression that there is something you missed in the first place

Stacklands is a random card survival strategy game. I say random because you are given a pack of cards to start and the option to buy other packs each of which contain a random set of cards that are within a field. Unfortunately that means that sometimes it will take several packs to obtain the card you need to progress the game. Different card combinations can be used to create different effects. For example a parrot card which carries a description makes pirates happy can be given to a pirate to befriend them. Your villagers amount to any card on your team side. However the game ends if your adult villagers perish. That means that if you have a dog in your village, said dog can work in the lumbercamp to produce wood. This is particularly advantageous since dogs can breed to produce offspring ready to work as opposed to human villagers that require growing up. ideas or recipes can be gained at higher level packs which can reduce some of the guess work but trying to obtain the last undiscovered card can prove irritating. As with any survival game food and health are important considerations. Some food goods such as potatoes do not carry a nutrition value as such some products are more useful than others. Automated food production is possible but can be somewhat tricky as your population expands. Its a simple yet well thought out game. Once you've unlocked the ideas they are available for future play which can speed things up a bit. Currently working on card completion and although the ingame text makes me thing I've defeated the final boss, the achievement hasn't been earned as such there could be an additional ending once I've unlocked the undiscovered cards. Otherwise the game lasted for about 20 hours.

SasugaJ

The gameplay is pretty leisurely, but challenging at the same time. The card system is pretty simple and straightforward. The harder part is figuring out recipes for things in the beginning you don't have the 'idea' cards for yet, but that can be easily remedied on the game wiki.

Overall, pretty creative and fun. I hope they continue to build out this game with new areas, bosses, and features and add some quality of life improvements.

The only downside for me is the lack of replayability. I played through once and failed learning the system. Played through a second time and aced it all the way until the end. After that, there's not much to do.

This game is a short but very enjoyable blend between something that resembles solitaire and a crafting & resource gathering survival game (i.e. Minecraft). Very short, very fun. Village management sim with a very sleek and well done card based look. You'll have to stack, as implied with the name, cards together to make stuff happen. The fun lies in learning how all of the different items interact with each other. While i hope they add stuff to this game, (Which as of writing this review i learned of the island update) to keep it fresh and giving the player more to do.

Yes, with caveats. The price ($6 at the moment) is right. Set your expectations low. There are better games under $10, and there are worse games over $20.

Somewhat concerning is that the game performs EXTREMELY poorly on my 2015 era MacBook Pro (2.2Ghz, 16G ram, Intel graphics). This game doesn't do anything that couldn't be done in a web browser with just HTML5 and JavaScript, and I'm not talking about Canvas extensions. It shouldn't need ay fancy accelerated graphics. I know it's hard to support any software on both Windows and OS X, much less a game, but this feels like a huge oversight considering how many other games run fine on both (Slay the Spire and Into the Breech come to mind).

That said, my thanks go out to the developer for supporting OS X at all.

RiskOfAdventure

A very nice and simple game. Tons of fun, but my only qualm is that it would be nice if it was more of a roguelike, with certain rarer cards and systems that allow/force you to change your strategy in between runs, as at the moment every time you play the game you pretty much do the exact same thing in the exact same order other than the way you source your food, which can be pretty much anything as long as you keep an eye on your food production, even the first way you ever get food in the game, so there's no real reason to try out other food methods.

Do you have 4 or so hours to spare and want to get unexpectedly sucked into an addicting survival game with cards? This game is for you. You use card packs and coins to get items for you people to survive. You can combine the cards to make other tools and useful objects. You survive day after day while feeding your humans. If you can't fulfill the hunger for a human card, they die, even if you were 1 hunger point away. If all of your humans die, its game over. It sounds hard but trust me, its not. I beat the survival mode and got all of the achievements in 4 hours. Its a very short game but in those short hours, you are totally enraptured.

You have been warned: Do not buy this if you have any sort of obligations to accomplish such as papers, homework, etc anytime soon after purchase. You will intensely poopsock for a few hours and not focus on anything else.

I am not a huge fan of card games (except solitare), nor do I like strategy game. BUT THIS GAME. THIS GAME IS AWESOME! It's very chill, kinda cozy (very cozy on peaceful mode, kinda on normal), and the graphics is just so cool! And cute! It has some issues- like the card stacks can become kinda glitchy, or sometimes I had to restart the game cause I couldn't seperate the stacks (the most iritating bug I've encountered... And it's still playable!). Worth the money!

This game is a good example of how a simple idea can be expanded into a good game with a good amount of depth. It took me about 22 hours to 100% everything from blind (including all quests and cards unlocked), which involved several runs where hard lessons were learned and I had to do things differently. Once you get to the the conclusion of the story, the game opens up again into a sort of roguelite within a roguelite via a secondary map with it's own resources and challenges.

If the art doesn't put you off (I personally like it but it is very simple), this is well-worth the 5$ it cost for the amount of game there is, especially if you like resource management and/or survival games.

Definitely a bang for the buck for your not-so-ordinary card-building game. Taking an idle aspect from clickers, adventure environment from RPGs, and the deck experience itself, you’ll be able to grind hours of fun. Though that’s not to say that there isn’t a level of challenge, because trust me, if you’re not stacking up on those nutrition cards, then you can say bye-bye to those babies you spent precious time rearing up in the house (slightly dark but remember they’re only cards….or are they?). Not to forget, maybe it’s a personal bias, but I personally love the satisfying minimalistic graphics and UI that are reminiscent of the Flash-era (Sokpop’s art style for most of its games). In all seriousness, the only things I can say I dislike are the fact that the game departs too early and partly that once you’ve done quite a bit of starting grind, the later progressions become relatively easier to carry out (though glad the card limit balances this out to an extent).

Fun little experience, the amount of content you get for the price point is about as expected, don't expect some grand strategy game with replay value and randomness that will keep you coming back, rather expect 1-2 playthroughs to discover the things that are yet unknown to you and you will likely feel satisfied.

Very fun, yet a little difficult, at least on the first few nights when ur getting everything set up. I changed the moons to long durration (making it easier) and that's when i could get my food up and ready before my people starve, but the first thing to worry about that i would tell any beginner is to GET UR FOOD EARLY, u wanna make sure u buy as many packs giving u a lot of berry bushes so u can get food, and when u get soil, PLANT THE BERRIES, it makes it so much easir cus then you'll have an infinite amount of berry bushes and ur people dont die on the first few days. but overall if i were to rate this game i'd give it a 4.5/5 stars

Fun little "I've got twenty minutes before everyone is ready to go" game. Casual, relaxing, but still at times tense and nerve-wracking. The mechanics are great, the graphics are purposefully primitive and the game play is excellent, Really good game on all fronts. The Island expansion turned a B game to an A. Even though I completed it, I will let it lie fallow for a few weeks, and I feel I will be back for another go.

Certainly an 8/10 solely based on the cohesiveness between the theme and game-play. Short, mechanically simple, Card Drafting, puzzle game. It loses some points mostly due to some controls that are not mentioned, and not re-mappable which can cause some confusion if you press those keys on accident. Stacklands also, unfortunately, has some minor cheesy bugs that will probably be patched out but slightly detracts from the puzzle solving. Either way, the game is worth full price and can be 100%'d in an evening. (edited)

It's a fun game with cute graphics. I like settlement building games or anything where you start from scratch and manage cities or group of people and this also hits the spot. It's just $5 and for that I had good 9 hours of fun, worth it.

I did have two suggestions I wanted to make:

1. Once you have the system up and running for surplus of food supplies, the game suddenly has very little challenge. I unlocked the island and sailed there, but at that point I could not see a point in continuing the game there, because I already had system set up where I had abundance of food and money (this was not easy mode). Maybe an age feature on villager would force players to constantly make new ones.

2. A desire or need feature on the villager (not instantly, but as the days go by) also would be nice! Since everybody is happy as long as they're fed, there's no good reason for me to build anything else. If the villagers craved fish or crabs and not providing them with it reduced their lifespan or productivity, I would have no choice but to go to the island.

I know this game is supposed to be short and sweet and it wouldn't be $5 if the game was any more complicated but it'd be great to see this game take off into a more complex system. But loved it, great job.

I didn't like it, but to be fair that was my own d@%n fault. The part I hate most about colony building games is slowly waiting for bars to fill up, so I bought a colony building game that stripped away everything but watching bars fill up. It's honest in it's advertisement, so If you like what you see on the store page you'll probably like what you get. I really don't know why I was expecting anything else.

Yip, what a cool little game!! Focus all your attention on food to start with, balance villagers numbers and then work out all the required recipes.....then build and explore.

Stacklands is what I like to think of as a good "in-between" game. It has a relaxing, familiar, and easy-to-learn system that you can jump into quickly when you don't feel like starting the next 100+ hour RPG. I very much enjoyed my time with it, and it's a game I will most likely go back to many times.

Premise: It's solitaire, but also with some roguelike, crafting, and light RTS elements.
Pros: Art style, quick to jump into, good loop with the roguelike elements.
Cons: Music is so minimal it's barely there, game starts to feel a bit unfair towards the later moons.

A clean, relaxing game that really scratches the automation / engine-building itch. Unlike Factorio, you'll lose a couple days to it instead of several months.

i love that all the achievement's symbols are sockies.

the game is great, though! i intend to play it again, for sure. it took me a solid minute to figure out that i had to literally combine two sticks and one iron bar to make a sword. i thought because the flint had a number next to it with the number two, that is how much was in that stack. nope, lol.

So much fun! I fully completed all quests and achievements in 30 hours, and fully enjoyed every bit of it. The price point is a steal, and the village building was a ton of fun. A few suggestions would be to increase the card mat size, and make the ending "feel" more like an achievement, but it's all in all a wholesome game. I would love to see more content, or more games like this, it was great. A roguelike village deck building game, filled with monsters, treasure, and resource management.

I love this game!

I did encounter an awful bug, which deleted the wrong save and made me unable to have more than 1 save. I'll send it to the support team.

If you play this game, don't save something to save 1 and 3, before saving to save 2. It will make the 3rd save unplayable and the 2nd save (with "3" before it) not deletable.

Crazy value for the price! I still haven't fully "beaten" it but am loving the gameplay. I primarily play on the steam link iPad app (using "direct cursor" mode and an apple pencil) and it works very well. Great chill game that has a lot of personality for being card based!

For the price this game is a great amount of fun.

Just as you're starting to get a bit bored because there's not much else to do you find out there's a LOT more to do and it gives you something new. At some point it does become a bit too much to manage all the cards and I have to spend more time paused to not get overwhelming by the tons of cards popping everywhere, so it'd be nice if there were a better way to automate some tasks, but it's not THAT necessary.

Overall really nice and couldn't recommend it more

Like pocket god but with cards. combine the cards to create other items. play area gets too full after awhile and when mobs spawn messes up your setup of automation by knocking your cards all over which is kinda a pain. however, currently there are two different locations so once the first is full go fill up the second and maybe they will release a third by the time the second becomes too annoying from spawns pushing around everything lol

Really clever and unique game mechanics, and cute artstyle. 100% after 7 hours, but I actually enjoyed that it was a shorter game.

Absolutely charming 6 hours. Zero replayability, but worth it. It's like Cultist Simulator but not gross and horrible.
